Well actually we are somewhere. We're continuing our stay right in Ottawa.
The leaf peeping is over.
Carla's lake is so cold that you nearly crack your teeth swimming in it.
But the people are warm and friendly and we've had a good stay here so far. So at risk of overstaying our welcome, we're running down to the store to pick up some long underwear, fleece shirts, warm socks and a bottle or two of the "sauce" to take the nip out of the air
Since there's no packing involved, no toting suitcases, no finding room at the inn - just kick your shoes off and relax. The hot cider is on it's way out... :coffee2: abc :cofdate:
11-01-2007, 08:11 PM
... back from the store. Great things await you chicks. :gift:
11-01-2007, 09:41 PM
:running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: :running: Still going. Thought I might have time to post today, but unless that happens this afternoon, then no way. Won't be posting over the weekend since DS1 and DS1'sPartner are here. Back Monday if not Friday arvo.
X-rated is x-rated. Tut tut Mel.
Madcat - not that you are reading this, but have a wonderful time.
11-01-2007, 10:42 PM
Fill my cup with hot apple cider please. My favorite drink this time of year.
11-01-2007, 10:57 PM
You want a cinnamon stick in that Ceejay? I've just been to Penzey's spices and I have some of the good stuff.
Have a good weekend Shad. Don't work too hard.
Madcat don't forget that you and Sis have to  at Mel over the bridge.
Rennie - glad you found us this time around.
Um if I could ask a favor of Ruth, Holly, Madcat and Carla - let's keep the snowflakes to just a flurry or two if you absolutely MUST show us some of the white stuff.
11-01-2007, 11:25 PM
Hey, Happy, we'll do our best to keep the snowflakes few and far between, but there's NO way we'll make it out of NOvember in Ottawa without getting walloped by the white stuff. :snow4: Global warming my a**... :brr:
You started the new thread just in time - I was going to suggest something along the lines of 'Naughty NOmads Going NOwhere in NOvember'.  Do you think that might have attracted a few new posters? :lol3:
11-02-2007, 12:54 AM
Carla - I love your suggestion but the last time (3 years ago) we started a new thread and didn't have something about Worldly Chicks in the title, we lost of few members. Had to strap the keg around the dogs and send out the St. Bernards. Even then we still wound up with a few drunken chicks and lost the dogs too
And wouldn't nomads going nowhere be an oxymoron? Keep thinking - I need the laughs. :D
11-02-2007, 01:19 AM
Since I'm having a little bout of insomnia here, I might as well entertain Happy whose light is still lit... It's already 1:45 here, I have to be up at 7, no sign of sleepiness on the horizon. Grrrr. :tantrum: Anyway, maybe another Carla-style option could have been 'Worldly Chicks, NOmads no More, going NOwhere New in NOvember'.
I must be tired - I thought that was funny until I wrote it down. :faint:
11-02-2007, 01:27 AM
By the way, Happy, just who do you think you are anyway, calling me a moron!!!??  Adding 'oxy' to the front of the word doesn't make it any less insulting you know.
And you might want to find those Saint Bernards - we'll need them once the blizzards start.
I know, I know. Go to bed, Carla. Stop annoying the nice people already. Sheesh! :dunno:
11-02-2007, 04:05 AM
Sheesh you lot :running: :running::running: :running::running: :running::running: :running::running: :running:
Not working this weekend. Son will be here at crack of dawn tomorrow.
11-02-2007, 09:30 AM
It's hard for me to fathom that as I get up to start my day, Shad has already torn through it and gotten more done than I did in a week. Of course, you were always more ambitious than me. ;)
Carla - :nono: You remind me of a slice of myself 10 years ago. Still up at 2 and crashing just before you have to get up again. Too little sleep, not good. But then again when you can't sleep, what can you do? We'll have to get the chicks to rock you to sleep and sing lullabys. - will probably wind up more like jumping on the bed, screaming and having a pillow fight - but we tried.
Your suggestions are interesting but I don't think I can change the thread title once I post it. Don't know why that is but I will keep it in mind for the next go round.
If we want to bring in more posters (more likely more lurkers) I think we should go with Painter's innocent but now classic line about Lesbian Friends Finding Success doing WW.
11-02-2007, 09:47 AM
Well, since one of your Worldly Chicks is a super-MOD, I could change the title if you like. Let me know.
This week has just flown by with stuff happening, both good and bad, but today is absolutely free except for cranking out the Church bulletin. I plan to tackle part of the sewingroom - the ironing and mending part - so I can quilt and maybe even work on that darned turquoise silk blouse I've been dabbling at for two years! The morning is clearing beautifully after a real pail of milk fog earlier so I may take a few swipes at garden clean-up.
Snow? Well, last year we had some briefly in October and only two minor flurries in November on the 19th and 30th so I am hoping for an "open winter" again.
Just remembered, I need to order more wood. If the Worldlies are in Ottawa, they just might make it to Delta for a visit and we need to be comfy.
Have a great TGIF.
11-02-2007, 10:36 AM
RUTH..YOU BETTER STOCK UP ON THE WINE, QUILTS AND WOOD CAUSE YOU KNOW WE'RE HEADED YOUR WAY!! AND BY THE LOOKS OF SHAD'S POSTS, SHE'S BRINGING THE TROOPS :running: :running: :running: :running:
ONE NAUGHTY NOMAD CHICK REPORTING IN FOR DUTY!!
I AM LAUGHING MY BUTT OFF OVER HERE. AND THE LESBIAN WW WOULD HAVE REALLY GOT US THE MOST HITS ON A THREAD IN NOVEMBER....MAYBE EVEN HAVE SET A RECORD ON 3FC :lol3: :lol3:
I'VE BEEN LAUGHING SO MUCH I FORGOT WHAT WAS SAID ON THE OLD THREAD AND THE 1ST PAGE HERE.
AT LEAST NOVEMBER IS STARTING OFF WITH BELLY LAUGHS! GOD KNOW MINE COULD USE SOME EXERCISE ANYWAY! IF WE LAUGH HARD ENOUGH MAYBE I CAN LOSE ANOTHER POUND
SITTING HERE TRYING MY BEST TO THINK AND IT'S JUST NOT HAPPENING TODAY. FEELING HAPPY BUT FOGGY. I'LL GET MORE PERSONAL TOMORROW  SORRY 'BOUT THAT!
HAPPY FRIDAY AND HOPE WE ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND. I DUTIFULLY WAVED IN THE DIRECTION OF NYC LAST NIGHT. HOPE MADCAT FELT THE VIBE
11-02-2007, 10:47 AM
Happy, I love the title we now have, just being silly with alternate versions. But if we get snowed in this month, maybe we could all jsut move down to Ruth's - 'Worldly Chicks Do Delta in December'. Or, for that matter, like the infamous Debbie of soft porn, we could always do Dallas...
(This is what sleep deprivation does to the mind. Not a pretty thing.)

I love both of them. Then again... there's always "The Worldly Chicks do Santa in December"
11-02-2007, 06:36 PM
I'll have to come back later to read the post. IE is n ot letting me open pages one and two.
Carla and Happy--If we go to dallas, I'll have my sister plan a barbecue.
Happy--did it frost at your house this morning. We had frost on the roof tops.
Still nothing is going on. Need to run some errands.
11-03-2007, 09:36 AM
RENNIE~ WHEN YOU ARE DONE YOU CAN COME HERE AND READY ME FOR FALL TOO  I NEED A NEIGHBOR!!!! :rollpin: I LOVE THAT SO MANY OF YOU HAVE YARDS, BUSHES, BULBS AND FLOWERS!!:encore:

HAPPY~ DOING SANTA ALMOST SOUNDS SACRELIGIOUS!!
BUT IT MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD AFTER DEBBIE DOING DALLAS THAT I COULDN'T SEE THE SCREEN!! NOTHING LIKE A GOOD EYE-WASH FIRST THING IN THE MORNING TO GET THE BLOOD PUMPING AND A SMILE ON THE FACE.
CEEJAY~ I COULD HAVE GIVEN YOU SOME ERRANDS ALSO!! LOL ARE YOU LIKING ALL THE NEW STUFF YOU BOUGHT RECENTLY? BET THE HOUSE IS SHAPING UP REALLY NICE. NEW TABLE, NEW BED...LA LA LA

I FORGOT TO PUT THE SIGNS UP!!! DAG NABBIT!! :tantrum: JUST AFTER 4...AND I MEAN LIKE 4:01....MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS STARTED. OF COURSE ALL THE BIGWIGS WERE GONE  THANK GOD JIMMY AND SAL WERE STILL HERE. THEN SILENCE REIGNED. JEN WENT SHOPPING FOR ME AND WE'RE ALL SET FOR THE WEEKEND. AFTER BEING WITH THE MIL FOR ALMOST A MONTH, BAD TOMS, THE SHOT...SHE LOOKS LIKE CHIT AND I TOLD HER SO. TIME TO PULL IN THE WELCOME MAT AND HAD A TALK WITH RICHIE TOO. I KNOW I SET A BAD EXAMPLE BUT I AM PHYSICALLY STRONGER THAN SHE IS...EMOTIONALLY TOO. I THINK SHE IS LISTENING. I KNOW HE IS NOW. SO MAYBE ALL THIS FOOKING FAMILY DRAMA IS AWAKENING THEM BOTH. THEY SEEM TO EXPECT THE WORST AND SEEM PREPARED AND TO THE POINT OF NOT CARING. LOOKS LIKE DAD IS SELLING OUT, TAKING MOM AND MOVING. I THINK IT'S A GREAT THING. ADIOS AND DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU IN THE AZZ ON THE WAY OUT. THE 3 OF US WILL BE JUST FINE :beach: :beach: :beach:
OFF TO GET THE MORNING GOING. MAYBE DO SOME COOKING. WAITING FOR RENNIE'S HOMEBAKED BREAD SLATHERED WITH FRESH BUTTER AND DROOLING OVER HERE AT THE THOUGHT OF THE SMELL!!!
HAPPY SATURDAY/SUNDAY AND WISHING YOU A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!

11-03-2007, 09:52 AM
I'm at work,yes on a saturday, but it's overtime.
I need to make a grocery list also.
like the new avatar
The phone has started to ring. Evidently there is a smoking transformer-probably a line has burned down, and it's cold. People are calling. However, it's not to bad. Yet.
11-03-2007, 09:55 AM
Hello. We must have been posting at the same time. ((hugs)) for all the drama you've had recently.
11-03-2007, 10:48 AM
Well, it is a difficult task to catch up with you all..... so I am going to report in on the happenings in the wilderness.
I have spent two weekends with my new guy in my life and it has been very interesting........ no one is perfect having lived as long as I have I understand this and the one habit this man deals with is chain smoking. This has been a deciding factor for me often times but.....this time he comes with so many fine, qualities and presence I have been able to totally over look that fact. So interesting the things that life puts in our path.
On a sad note, my friend and almost constant dog from the last year Darby. He was my BF dog that I watched and Darby and I had such a soul connection. When I went up to Mt two weekends ago Larry was home so I returned the dog for him to watch over the weekend. He went down to the river fishing and Darby fell in and it really set him back.
So I went over Monday morning and got him and brought him home. I spent the last evening and night with him and talking and petting and just being with him. Darby was very tired and hurting more than I think we knew. Larry had Darby put down the next day. My heart is sad just so glad I got to have him in my life....... it was such a bond of communication between us. He was over 14yrs old and a big white with brown spots German short hair....
Can't believe how fast the month has flown by and you gals are on a real roll here......LOL. So nice to have this place to come and share. I went and had my annual and I am down 22lbs. from my last years appointment....how about that?
Going to a 50th bday party tonight and having company come and stay so looking forward to the day. Hope everyone who is ill will gain strength for all who are facing struggles find guidance and peace...... Blessings to all,
11-03-2007, 01:07 PM
Sorry to hear about the pup Nae. It was good of you to make his last night a comfortable one. Congrats on being 22 pounds down from last year!
Mel - I'm glad you got a laugh or two today. What drama abounds at home. Hope now that they are gone you can all settle down and get some much needed peace and quiet. That is before you have to get all riled up for the holidays which are just around the corner. And Mel - we won't "do" Santa bad - he'll love every minute of it :hohoho:
Ceejay - we didn't have any frost yet. More in your area but it's coming close to here. Going to be really chilly come next Tuesday. I guess autumn is really here. Glad it's not cold AND damp and rainy. Hope you have a quiet day at work today.
Rennie - you have inspired me. I'm going to give the house a good cleaning today.
Oops - got to run. DH needs my help with something. Will catch up with the rest later. Enjoy your weekend.
11-04-2007, 09:03 AM
AWWW CEEJAY...THANKS FOR THE EXTRA HUGS. THEY MADE MY MORNING. HOPE THE PHONE DIDN'T GO TOO CRAZY! CONGRATS ON THE OVERTIME!!
HAPPY~ POOR OLD SANTA....JUST BE GENTLE AND PUT THAT PROMISED SMILE ON HIM! I AM SURE YOU LADIES WILL DO OUR SISTERHOOD PROUD :hohoho:AND JUST EXACTLY WHAT WAS IT THAT THE DH NEEDED? INQUIRING MINDS NEED TO KNOW!!
NAE~ I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT DARBY. I KNOW HOW MUCH THAT DOGGIE MEANT TO YOU. FOR YOU AND LARRY. EVERYTIME I TYPE THAT NAME I THINK OF MY EX! HOPE YOU AND THE NEW BF HAVE A HAPPY ENDING!
RENNIE~THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT I WOULDN'T BE SMELLING HOMEBAKED BREAD IN MY HOUSE WITH YOU AS A NEIGHBOR!
WHAT A NIGHT I HAD!!!! IT STARTED AROUND 5 AND LASTED TILL DANG NEAR 10!!!!!!!! A TOILET WAS ON PERPETUAL FLUSH AND THE WOMAN DIDN'T NOTICE IT....FOR HOURS! :yikes: :faint: SO SHE HAD A LAKE IN HER BATH AND BEDROOM. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE WATER HAD TO GO SOMEWHERE AND PROCEEDED TO GO TO THE 3RD FLOOR AND HIT EVERY FLOOR IN BETWEEN. POPCORN CIELING FALLING IN EVEYONE ELSE'S BATHROOM...WIT WATER GOING INTO BEDROOM CLOSETS! POOR JIMMY! BOTH BOSSES AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND TOO. NO ONE WANTING TO MAKE DECISIONS. WHY DO I EVEN CALL ANYONE? NEXT TIME I WILL JUST MAKE THEM MYSELF AND IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT THEY CAN FIRE ME. :belly: BUT THE SANTA ANA WINDS HAVE SUBSIDED AND THE SUN IS OUT SO BRIGHT AND SHINY :sunny: SO ALL IS WELL IN MY LITTLE CORNER OF THE WORLD! DID I SAY JEN IS DRIVING AGAIN. RELUCTANTLY BUT RICHIE IS PUSHING IT.....OF COURSE HE IS...HE'S A LAZY SOD!!!
HAPPY SUNDAY/MONDAY :moped:
11-04-2007, 10:45 AM
Sometimes we have to make judgement calls and you did the right thing. I had to make one yesterday myself. It will take the boss man 10 minutes to fix but he's told me to leave it alone. Glad Jen is driving again.
Things are pretty quiet right now and hope they stay that way.
I'm doing well with the 21 day challenge that I've started for myself. I'm not sure if I'll make the 172 for my Thanksgiving goal, but I'm still trying.
11-04-2007, 01:46 PM
Good morning ladies,
Mel - I can't believe that someone would not notice a lake of water in their apartment. Makes me very scared to become a senior. What a honking mess for so many places. I think you are an adult day care supervisor. I Rennie is making bread then I'll make you some nice soups to go along with it. DH says my soups are good but on the blander side (I guess because I don't put the WHOLE box of salt in them - ) so they should be peeper friendly to you.
Rennie has me in the mood for some bread so I'm going to pop a loaf in the breadmaker as soon as I'm done posting. *** Ummmmm :T is there any better smell? Well maybe the smell of freshly dried sheets brought in from outside.
Ceejay - I'm glad to hear that you are doing well on the 21 day challenge. Sometimes we need a daily reminder to stick to plan. I hope you meet your Thanksgiving goals.
Today is one of my most favorite days of the year. A 25 hour day. (Daylight Savings Time kicked in yesterday) Wheeeeee - so many possibilities with that extra hour. And it's easier to get up earlier too for the next few days until we adjust. Seeing as how it will get darker earlier now, I HAVE to switch my hours around at work and get up early so I don't have to stay at work until 6pm. I can do this...
JC Penney had a big sale yesterday. DH gave me some money - just because - love that man  and I bought a bunch of new sweaters. It always motivates me to feel that I'm looking halfway decent instead of putting 50 things on and discarding this and that. One of the sweater sets is a mint green and the other a redish purple - both of which are flattering to the new hair color. So I'm a happy girl today.
I hope you ladies are enjoying your weekend. Shad is busy with the DS2. Hope you're feeling better Holly. Maybe Nae is enjoying some time with the new BF. Hope Madcat is having fun with Sis in the Big Apple. Carla - have you caught up on your sleep? If you're going to be awake - we might have to ship Linus' Christopher over to you - sounds like he's up 23 hours a day. If you can't nap then Linus will
Where's Painter and Meadow? I know I'm forgetting someone - my apologies. Yesterday I washed my hands, walked out of the loo and forgot to turn the water off in the sink - maybe I'm closer to Mel's forgetful senior than I want to acknowledge. :yikes: The problem is that I get engrossed in the conversations in my head and I have a tendency to drift elsewhere :dizzy:
Meal planning, groceries, laundry and exercise await me so tah tah for now, have a good Sunday.
11-04-2007, 06:09 PM
Sheesh you lot talk a lot.
It's Monday. I'm back to 57 emails, no kudos, more problems and a happy headache!
DS1 and Partner are still sleeping it off up the road and I will meet them for lunch before they fly back to Adelaide to go back to work. They've had a good weekend. We went down to the pit lane to look at the planes and talk to the pilots on Saturday and then wandered downtown and had lunch and I drove them out to Fremantle in the afternoon to see the markets and walk the streets etc. We've walked for miles and miles. Then we drove up the coast a way and dipped our toes in the Indian Ocean - water was freezing, sand was hot. Later we went out to dinner at Wagamumas for a sort of Japanese meal. Collapsed into bed and got up to do similar all over again yesterday. A lady at work had invited us to her place to watch the races and we had a wonderful view over the river and course, so we ate up big on cheeses, smoked salmon, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts and capers. Real Antipasto stuff along with a very nice Pinot Gris from Bendigo. Yummy. But not diet friendly. Walked home took a nap and went down to the local Indian restaurant and had a yummy dinner as well. I couldn't finish mine.
Anyway I am back. And the last weeks problems don't seem to have gone away. More of the same no doubt today.
I love some of the suggestions for the thread name. Debbie does Delta in December??? Well it will get a giggle out of Ruth and the men should be running scared right about now if we all descend on them for the month. Things will be warming up in Delta, not cooling down.
Rennie all this housework makes me tired. I raced around my little house on Saturday morning and had it all looking nice. Needless to say it didn't stay that way long after the kids arrived. Dawn huh? Delta Dawn what's that flower you have on, could it be a faded rose from days gone by.............
Sorry, you probably get enough play on words with your name just like me.
And with that I'd better move on and get the day started. I'm trying to get the powers that be to move one of my courses from pre go live to post go live. I'd better go and batt the eyelashes or something, since logic is not doing the job. Then again a baseball bat might be somewhat useful.
11-04-2007, 07:06 PM
IF ALL GOES WELL AND THE BUS IS WORKING.... :scooter: ...THEN I AM GOING TO A NEARBY MALL. TRY TO STAY OUR OF TROUBLE TILL I GET BACK AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!
WELCOME HOME SHADDIE! THE WEEKEND SOUNDED WONDERFUL AND GLAD YOU GOT TO BE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS. ENJOY THE DAY!
11-04-2007, 07:30 PM
Hey chicklets! We're back from NYC in one peice. Unfortunately one of the souvenirs I brought back was a wicked chest cold. :stars: I have to go back to the couch now, but I'll be back when I feel better.
11-05-2007, 09:34 AM
Good morning ladies,
Happy Monday. :D
Sorry to hear you picked up a bug Madcat. If you are susceptible to those things, maybe start carrying a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your purse and start using it all the time. I find that as soon as I go out in mass public - like Christmas shopping where people are putting their germy mitts all over the place, all the germs attach themselves to me. Rest up - hope you feel better quickly!
Happy shopping Mel - get me something good  Or get US something good!
Banana ice cream Rennie? Reminds me of those chocolate covered frozen bananas on a stick. My dad loved to eat those. :T Breadmakers are the best, aren't they? Sure does better than the old days when getting the bread to rise was a crapshoot. I used to put the bread under the covers and crank up the heater on the waterbed. Then when I got into bed at night my covers smelled like warm bread!
Speaking of food - sounds like you had some good eats this weekend yourself Shad. But you also did lots of walking around so hopefully you traded out most of the calories. Isn't it fun to be back at work again ;)
Hope you have an on plan day Ceejay. I think the Jack Frost will be visiting us this week for sure
Love to the rest of the chicks...
11-05-2007, 04:46 PM
CEEJAY~ GOOD LUCK WITH THE CHALLENGE THIS WEEK TOO!! :cheer:
RENNIE~ WE WERE THINKING OF A BREAD MAKER TOO!
HAPPY~ ENJOY THE NEW SWEATERS!!! NEW STUFF ALWAYS MAKES ME FEEL SOOOO MUCH BETTER!!! I WILL WAIT FOR THE FAMOUS HAPPY SOUPS!!:beach:
SHAD~ SEE YOU WHEN YOU CAN GET YOUR HEAD ABOVE THE WEEKLY DELUGE!!
MADCAT~ SO SORRY YOU GOT SICK!! SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE AROUND ME HAS THAT DANG CHEST COLD!
I AM ON THE RUN. JUST GOT HOME A BIT AGO AND OF COURSE THERE ARE PROBLEMS. OTHER APARTMENTS IN THE NEXT LINE OVER HAVE WATER IN ALL THEIR CLOSETS. I KNEW IT HAD TO GO SOMEWHERE!!! IT HAD TO HAVE BEEN RUNNING FOR HOURS :faint: THE PHONE RANG THE WHOLE TIME I WAS OUT. PEOPLE AT ALL THE REGISTERS THOUGHT I WAS A VIP BARKING OUT ALL THESE ORDERS IN A WHISPERY VOICE. I AM LAUGHING NOW BUT IT WASN'T FUNNY THEN. MOLD IS GOING TO GROW ALL OVER THESE APARTMENTS...SIGH.
HAVE LOADS TO DO FOR THE ELECTION TOMORROW. OF COURSE PEOPLE ARE CALLING IN SICK LEFT AND RIGHT. WHY AM I ALWAYS THE ONLY ONE LEFT STANDING? OR SHOULD I SAY ROLLING :moped:
I DIDN'T GET ANYTHING FOR MYSELF. BUT I PICKED UP STUFF FOR MY NEIGHBORS.....I'M BECOMING A PERSONAL SHOPPER!! HAPPY, YOU ARE RIGHT...I AM NOT ONLY THE SUPERVISOR BUT THE ARTS & CRAFTS DIRECTOR, THE NURSE ON CALL, THE FOOKING DOORMAN, THE MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR, AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE..:lol3: :lol3: THE ELECTION BOARD EVEN CALLED WHILE I WAS OUT!! JUST TO MAKE SURE I AM AT THE READY!! LIKE I'M NEVER READY....OK I AM OFF TO SHOWER AND GET MY STUFF LAID OUT FOR THE MORNING. SEE YOU ALL ON WEDNESDAY!! HAVE A GREAT NIGHT AND A WONDERFUL DAY TOMORROW. :moped:
11-05-2007, 04:59 PM
Yikes, what a quiet gang today!
Mel, even young people screw up with running water sometimes, not just the old and senile. A couple of months ago some 30'ish idiot 5 floors above me decided to run a bath, then went off for a nice long phone chat... By the time the water was turned off, water was gushing down the hall, and I could hear it running down the inside of the walls. I strongly suspect there were mood-altering drugs of some kind involved... Our poor super spent much of the night cleaning up the common areas, and of course the owners of the two units under the idiots unit were away on holiday. But then our super is very well paid for his trouble... maybe you should move up here and take over his job?
Shy, did I detect another two pounds down on your ticker, or am I confusing your numbers with someone else's?
I've never even heard of banana ice cream, nor have I ever baked bread. Much too lazy...
Madcat, so sorry to hear you've caught a bug. Probably a germ warfare attack from our southern neighbours jealous of our mighty Canadian dollar. ;) Did you and sis buy lots of good stuff and eat yummy local specialties and visit terrific cultural monuments? Were the natives friendly? :D
Shad, it sounds like you had a full and fun (pun intended) weekend! If it was only one weekend of excess and :censored:, there shouldn't be any unhappy after effects. Just climb back on that wagon and savour the memories!
I have no idea what the work-related part of your post meant :dizzy:, but do hope you convince them to do what you want.
Holly, are you still sick? Poor baby! :grouphug: I think I'll go take some Vitamin C - these things seem to spread via the thread and I don't wanna be sick.
Ruth is keeping a low profile - no doubt trying to explain to Delta's town council about the projected December Debbie invasion... Or maybe she and Hershey are busy bonding with a new dog?
Happy, I'd be more worried about those conversations in my head than a potential flood...
Can I have some of Mel's soup? I'm happy to add my own salt. And maybe some of that home-baked bread too? Mmmmm.
I expect to be back on a proper sleep schedule by tomorrow, mainly because I have to be up at some ungodly hour to get to work.
Ceejay, how many days of the 21-day challenge have you gotten through so far? I used to post on that thread, but found that after a while I couldn't even make it through a week. That's when I landed over here with this lot... :yikes: Redballoon and I still email from time to time.
The last few weeks have been very excessive, and for some reason it has seemed impossible to get back on track. I'm up 6 or 7 pounds :o, and really have to get it all under control. So I'm trying again to get through two weeks of the old Fat Flush program, which usually works quite well. No more starches (bye-bye bread  ), no more wine ( ), no more assorted junk and sweets (  ). And maybe I can ramp up the spin classes a little, and it would be a good idea to get out the rebounder (and actually use it for a change). Why is it so darned hard sometimes? Today marks two months since I joined the gym for a two-month trial period - haven't made it there even once, so that was a total waste of money!
 to the absent Meadow, Painter, Linus, 1dayatatime and whoever else I've forgotten. :D
11-05-2007, 05:42 PM
Sorry I've not been in much. The time change and some other things have been keeping me a bit down. I did drag myself to painting class though this afternoon. No new dog as yet. I will wait until after my trip out west later this month. I also have more testing to do with her to see how she reacts with Hershey here in MY house.
Is it too early to go to bed?
11-05-2007, 07:27 PM
Had a win yesterday. Got the course I didn't want to do taken off the menu completely - better win than I could have anticipated. I was a happy camper I can tell you. Nothing like a rampaging Shad to nip the heels and round up the troops and put them in a corner from which they can not emerge until a decision has been made.
DS1 and Partner have now gone home. Got a text to say they are safely home and thanks for the weekend - also have an empty fridge!!! But that's life.
Ruth - It's time to go to bed when you have been up long enough not to wake up in the middle of the night and wonder why you can sleep no longer. It's good to see you in here. I was wondering whether I should ring you again.
Happy - save some soup for me. I'm with Carla at the moment and can't stop being excessive. I will have to stop it - immediately if not sooner.
Mel - you will have to stop yelling into the phone otherwise someone will get upset and report you to the RSPCP&L. Happens all the time.
Madcat - Hope you get better soon. Too many here getting sick.
Carla - how you coping? I'm not doing too well either but I can't get everything together at the moment. We have too much else to do and this place doesn't get any easier. I'm not making good food choices and I'm not getting the exercise in apart from walking up and down the hill. Not much else can be expected I guess.
Morning to everyone else. I gotta go and give the new trainer heaps. I'll be back.

My challenge started on the 3rd of this month. So far so good. 2.5 days. I've found out a few things about myself.
I feel for you girlfriend concerning all that water. We have fun when the power goes out at the plant especially while it's in operation. We have had approximately 3 feet of water downstairs in the pipe galley. What fun!
I am a scale hog. I weigh in every day. I used to do it in honor of the fluid pill.
It's lightening going to shut down the puter.

Take care Ceejay - nasty storms up your way. We are just catching the tail end of one of them. Probably not much if any rain, but a terrific light show in the sky.
Shad - I'm so happy for you that they took away the course from  Just makes you have happy feet  I'm surprised that you are having food issues right now - usually when spring comes we tend to get in more of a diet mode. Right now I'm battling the "it's getting cold, let's have comfort foods" syndrome. I've got a bit of roast beef leftover from tonight and a nice turkey breast that's cooling down. I'll bet I can use the breastbone and some residual meat for a nice soup.
I would love to FedEx some fresh bread and soup to you and Carla but the darn government has this thing about shipping foods to other countries :nono: Guess you'll just have to come down here. Shad - put on your warm coat - Carla - you can just pop on a summer blouse as I'm sure it's warmer here than up by you.
The reds are finally bursting out in the trees. We won't have as colorful an autumn as usual but the reds are gorgeous. My favorites are the peaches - the not quite yellow, not quite red.
As I'm typing this I take back my words. It's pouring like crazy outside. Guess the rain and storms will bring in the cold front. It was in the 70's today - an absolutely Brilliant day.
Ruth - you know dogs and I'm sure the right one for Hershey will come along in due time. It is kind of a downer time - not sure if you guys have Daylight savings time like we do but it is a bummer to have it get dark so early. Don't get too blue - we still love you :grouphug:
Carla - I totally hear you on the so hard to get the oomph together again. I am always looking at gadgets or books or ideas. The plain fact for me is that I need to cut out sugar. Period. And that's hard. I am trying to figure out a happy medium with something I can live with for the rest of time. I'm starting back by doing it a little at a time - make a better choice at this meal, walk a few extra steps, do some arm circles while I'm waiting for the microwave to finish cooking. C'mon and walk with me - tho I have a feeling I'll soon be panting behind you. But together we can start up that road again...
Mel - you just have to slow down woman. Since when and WHY did you become a person shopper? You have to stop taking care of the world woman. I'm going to snap a shot of you having a flare up and make a larger than life poster JUST to remind you to slow down. Don't make me come up there woman - I hear the weather is miserable up your way  Come over to my house and clean out my closets and cabinets, will you? We can make fancy hats out of all the stuff buried in the closets.
Rest up Madcat and Holly!
Hi Rennie
I'm posting now because this time of year I have to switch my hours around. I am so NOT an early morning person. So usually I go into work around 9ish and stay until after 6pm because those last 2 hours are blessedly quiet. But I have bad night driving vision and now that we've turned the clocks back it gets dark by 5:30. So I have to switch my hours and for the next few months become and early riser. Which also means an early to bed person. Like by 10:30 at the latest and maybe even earlier. Trouble is at 10pm my peepers are wide open and I get my second wind.
So I'm posting now so I can have the kitchen all cleaned up, everything done and in bed by 10:30. I'm excited about wearing one of my new snuggly warm sweaters tomorrow and I've got a very nice lunch from tonights leftovers - so thusfar we're on plan.
Have a good night ladies - I'll check back later tomorrow if not at lunch time.
11-06-2007, 08:17 AM
Quickie this morning after a good night's sleep. No grumpies today. Some mornings I feel like the big Monty Python foot is hanging over my head. It's hard to stay grumpy when my Hershey is so happy to see me. She is nearly ten but still jumps straight up in the air in greeting when I open the kitchen door.
Lots of "stuff" to clear off the Niggle List this week. This morning I WILL go to the gym and then to the funeral home to finalize arrangements for Harry. I also need to renew my car licence and have lost the forms somehow. Luckily all this stuff is just over in the next village so can be done in the morning.
The deer hunt has started around here and the lads are doing well. Friend Art and his pals are hoping NOT to get their limit quickly. Last year they were home in three days! It's a break for the guys AND for their wives! I'm sure Art will be at my door any day now with some venison steaks. His biotch of a wife won't let him even cook it in the house.
Gotta get cracking and get Tuesday underway. Have a lovely day.
11-06-2007, 09:00 AM
Some mornings I feel like the big Monty Python foot is hanging over my head.
Don't that say it all?
11-06-2007, 10:46 AM
Oh Ruth, I can already hear the theme music (what is that? The Liberty Bell march, I think). Good on ya, as someone here would say. What a great image that is!! And I really admire you getting things sorted while being able to realize that there still is joy out there – even if it is the love of a dog. You just have to make sure to look for it.
Speaking of good on ya, yeah for Shad dodging at least one training bullet. But you still sound as if you have the nose to the grindstone and the grindstone is winning. Don’t forget to take some time to breathe in the midst of the chaos. They have brought in a new training at the last hour? What are they thinking?
Happy, I feel your pain. I’m had to become a morning person against my will over the years. I’m still a tad slow before my first coffee, but at leas I can function as long as I don’t have to think much. But really, it’s probably better that you can drive home safely. You’ll adapt. And soup is comfort food and if you eat vegetable soup you also have the bonus of getting your veggies.
Shy~ Well at least you’ll be warm. What kinds of things do you bake? Do you have Christmas specialties?
Ceejay~ hope the worst of the storm is passed. Good luck on the challenge. Stick in there.
Carla~ Ah the joys of condo living. It sounds to me that maybe the gym isn’t the best place for you, if you are going to have problems getting there. Are rebounders any good? I’ve never used one. Where did you do the spinning classes, at some other location? Sometimes it just is harder than others. Don’t know why, but don’t throw in the towel yet, and let’s hear that fat flush! That is so evocative, isn’t it?
Mel~ My Dad would have referred to you as “Chief cook and bottle washer”. You do everything! Good luck with the election today. I hope all goes well.
Ok, I have to run off. Just a note about NYC: we had a great time. We gorged ourselves on art and culture and even got to see a play, the musical version of "Legally Blonde". It was a hoot! But, I swear, that is the last time I go travelling with someone who runs 20K for fun a couple of times a week. Sick or not, I could barely keep up, and I was glad to come home because, frankly, I was exhausted.
11-06-2007, 11:51 AM
Thankfully the storm didn't last long nor did to much damage. We had some horrific lightening and the worse part of it was there was no warning. I'd been watching the Jonesboro t.v. station. The last time Ilooked at the on line radar the storm was in Kentucky and part of Tn. It was traveling fast.
((hugs)) sympathy comes your way for Harry.
Madcat--glad you enjoyed your trip to NY. If you ran a 20k I'm impressed.
Don't overdo at the election's today. I'm going to have to keep myself posted. We ususally have early election here. I need to find out when this is.
Brrrr. The cold front dropped some cool air. I'm honesly wearing a coat this morning.
Every one have a great day.
11-06-2007, 06:08 PM
Buckeye balls - well that conjures up some interesting thoughts and holy smoke it is only 6.30am and I am reading about buckeye balls!
Not such a rush this morning thank goodness. I'm slowing down fast anyway - if that makes sense. We have almost broken the back of the Train the Trainer stuff and now only have to make the alterations to training material for the courses. What a team!!! It's very tiring though
Madcat - the new trainer was not new as such, just new to the subject and since it was one I wrote, it was important to me that he did it properly. Thankfully it went down well, even with the witches in the corner (every training class has one at least). So yeah for that. My team have been getting kudo's on the readiness of the data and the material so I am happy for them. Looks like they might make it after all. The grindstone might still be winning at this point however, it is due for a major overhaul next week and from then on we will be running downhill. I have just warned my mob that I have volunteered them to help out on other modules of the project where they are not doing as well as we are. What!!!! they say! Finance !!!! Yep well it exists and SCM + Finance will be good for you. Yes Mum!!!!
Ruth - really sorry to hear about Harry. No matter how prepared you are and the fact that he hasn't been well for some years, this always comes as a blow to a body. Well done for getting the arrangements in place. Is Hershey 10??? Crikey. I wouldn't have guessed that one. She is getting to be an old lady. Monty Pythons Foot - haven't thought about that in years - although I must admit I have been reading Michael Palins books recently and he often refers to the Monty Python years.
Venison steak. Haven't had it in years. Last one was farmed venison and it had no flavour whatsoever. I'd love to go back to the little roadhouse in the Kaimanawa Ranges where they had Venison sandwiches on the menu. Not your ordinary everyday sandwich - this was a 2 slices from a loaf of bread sliced along the length not width and filled with meat, braised onions and rich gravy. YummOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Glad to hear your lot are sticking to the limits and not going for overkill. Just don't let the American VP anywhere near a rifle again.
Happy - I'll gladly pop over for some soup and toast. Will be worth the wait and the refusal of airline grub. Sounds like you are all the busy little people over there, but then Thanksgiving comes up soon doesn't it? Nice of DH to give you the money to buy a sweater or two. Might hit him up for some for a shirt or two for me!
I'm still available for training and doco for your lot. Have a bunch of trainers all lined up behind me. Just say the word, start the project, we will be over to help out the box industry!!!
Speaking of travelling - I am probably going to go up to Japan sometime in February to help Chris pack up her stuff. Depends on what gives here and where the next job is coming from. She hasn't been well again and was fearing a flare up of the Churg-Strauss syndrome but it is not that - more of a breathing problem with the COPD or whatever it is that has become a side effect from the Churgs. Poor old thing!!!
Rennie - baking sounds nice. Hope you have fun. I used to love to bake when the kids were at home. They don't seem to care for much in the way of baking now that they are grown men. But I'll bet if the Grandma came back and made gingercrunch, they'd been in the tins in a flash!
Ceejay - hope the challenge is going well for you. That is a good thread there. It does keep you thinking about the things you do.
Hello to 'Nae, Holly, Meadow and Carla and Mel - has she exhausted herself shopping? - run out of time to spread any more gossip.
11-06-2007, 06:20 PM
 Waves wildly - Hi Shad - I see you little egg a glow...
11-06-2007, 11:11 PM
I wuz here and you wuz gone,
Then you wuz here and I wuz gone
Now I is back but you waz gone again.
11-06-2007, 11:28 PM
And now ya'z both gone, and so am I.
11-06-2007, 11:36 PM
no you aint, you egg light is on
11-07-2007, 12:31 AM
I'm here. Youse boat gone. Probably at the pub clinking a glass  and talking 'bout me.
Yes Madcat - it is John Phillip Souza's Liberty Bell March. One of my favorite treadmill songs. I try to high step it when that comes on. I was so intrigued by the song when I first heard it that I had to figure it out.
Ruth - hang in there
Shad - I have a few containers of soup put aside for you. Some veggie loaded minnestrone, some chicken noodle and some turkey vegetable. Because of you I have had the courage to try the Autumn Pumpkin soup in the cafeteria. Quite nice inded :T Thanks for raving about squash soup or whatever you called it :D So sorry to hear about Chris' troubles. Will she be retiring home then? Seems she's been in Japan for a long, long time. Bet that feels more like home.
I am trying very hard to ignore all the talk of food porn going on this page  I am trying very hard to be a good on plan, WW girl again.
Green Giant brand frozen foods came out with a new line of frozen vegetables with different names like immunity boost, vision something or other and geez one other thing I can't remember. They are mixed vegetables in a very light sauce - quite pretty in color. They are great for taking to work and popping in the microwave. I shared some today with a friend who showed up unexpectantly for lunch. Went well with the turkey breast I cooked up last night. I plan on having another variety with my roast beef tomorrow. Thank goodness I can eat reams of veggies for little to no points.
Almost time for bed. The alarm went off at 5 but I was just not ready to get up. Still made it to work earlier - will do better tomorrow.
Good night ladies...
11-07-2007, 01:48 AM
I hate computers. My printer quit accepting print jobs from my laptop, claiming there was no device... after reloading the drivers a second time, I realized that I can print as long as my firewall is turned off. Tried to unblock things, but it seems I need to know the right "path" to allow network access.
My question: is it smarter to just get a new printer and hope it gets along with my firewall, or just turn the d***ed firewall off??? (I know this isn't an IT help site, but since several of you work in the field, and I'm clueless...
I wuz here, now I'm gone agin. Off to tear my hair out. :tantrum:
11-07-2007, 02:08 AM
Usually there is a checkbox or something on the firewall where you can specify what you want to let in or through. I've never had a problem with printers or other peripherals. Often you can specify the sites that are 'user friendly' and also you can specify high medium or low. I tend not to use high as that turns things off when you sneeze!! Geez!!!! That could be part of the problem. What firewall are you using???
Don't tear the hair out. Not good for you
11-07-2007, 09:18 AM
Sorry for the IT-related rant. I find the whole computer world very frustrating. Shad, thanks for the help - I did try to let the printer in, but to do so have to enter its "path", whatever that is. At least I didn't go out and buy a new printer which would probably have been just as disconnected! Until I get around to calling the tech I'll just turn off the firewall when I want to print something.
I think your bad eating is probably stress and fatigue-related. It always seems easier - and comforting - to shovel in something quick and full of fat, salt, and starch. Let me know if you want to give my fat flush a try - not much variety, but fairly easy and quick short-term results. It seems to help your taste buds forget the bad stuff.
Happy, if you're really having trouble getting up early enough, you're welcome to borrow my two furballs. They do rather a lot of yowling and vocalizing and bed/Carla jumping very early in the morning. Once they're sure I'm not going to manage any more sleep, they retire for a well-earned nap, congratulating themselves on a job well done...
By the way, can I have some of that soup too? Yummm!
Madcat, did your sister run the marathon while in New York? I've heard it's one of the best. I take it the whole weekend was a bit of a marathon for you... Get well soon!
Shy, what the heck is in those food porn balls? Looks like they're dipped in chocolate, but what flavour and consistency are the balls themselves?
As for weigh-ins, I really need to weigh in every day. In fact "forgetting" to weigh myself every morning is a sure sign that I'm trying to pretend I'm not overindulging...
So far the old fat flush is doing its magic, two pounds down so far. Of course I do know they'll be right back with several of their friends if I'm not careful. But it's gratifying to get a quick result. I don't know why it's so hard to eat properly - it would be different if I hated veg or couldn't live without heavy sauces. But I actually prefer large piles of steamed veg with lemon juice, and plain grilled meats or fish.
With all this food talk, now I'm getting hungry - time for bath and brekkie, or maybe a nice morning nap... Zzzzzzzz ;)
11-07-2007, 09:34 AM

11-07-2007, 12:28 PM
Mel, for a quick fix try munching on a large bag of dried apricots. Certainly cleaned me out!!
Rennie, thanks for the recipe. I don't think I'll make them - I'd probably eat the whole batch at once :ink: and end up spending another night in the loo. Besides, while I do like PB, I'm not too sure it likes me.
As for the printer problem, for now I'll just disable the firewall to print, and I've sent an email to the anti-virus guys asking how to fix things. (Everything was fine until a recent automatic update from them... ) The printer manual is incomprehensible and totally not useful.
   to Holly, Ruth, Meadow, Painter, Rose, 1dayatatime, Shad, and Happy.
11-07-2007, 02:07 PM
You melt wax and chocolate together and then dip the peanut butter in them?
Gimme a Reese's Peanut butter cup (or 12) any old day :T
Mel - I think we should dress my cat up as a swashbuckler.
11-07-2007, 05:43 PM
Happy, I notice you didn't take me up on my extremely generous offer of a couple of feline alarm clocks... I'd even let you dress them up all you want. But you can't have my Reese's PB cups. No sirree!! ;)
Mel, if the dried apricots alone don't work, try adding a bag of Werther's Originals. It worked for me. :yikes: And hey, a tray of porn - erm, buckeye balls might make a nice dessert after everything else!
I got a quick reply from the anti-virus folk, telling me to do what I'd already tried to no avail. Now they want me to sent them a copy of the screen with the error message, of which there isn't one... I foresee a long and frustrating correspondance before this one is fixed... :kickcan:
Day three of the fat flush, and I stupidly agreed to meet a skinny friend for lunch at a Mexican place... where I had an overpriced dish of lettuce with a teensy bit of chicken and green peppers and my own dressing from home. It cost me $15 with tip (and they were great big Canadian $$!!) and an hour later I'm starved. Went to Costco, and ate one sample - a piece of sliced turkey. Yes!!! I did it! I behaved! :D :D :D And tomorrow morning the scales had better show it too.
Time to go seek sustenance, forage for food, dig for dinner... :hun: Maybe a nice hard-boiled aigg since it's too early for supper.
11-07-2007, 05:56 PM
I was going to ask about the parafin (sp) - does it make the treat move faster?? so to speak??? Thanks for the recipe, but I am not a PB fan either unless it is my mothers homemade stuff (and she is long gone) or in Satay sauce with chicken sticks.
Carla - certainly turning off the firewall is an option. But you should not have to do that. You are certainly not a dummy around computers so it is not for want of trying that you can't figure out the problem. The printer path is often available if you check out the printer settings in the Control Panel, however that is generally only useful for a network system. I'll give the fresh fruit and veges a couple of days to do their work and then maybe get onto your flat fush - um that didn't come out right, but you know what I mean.
Mel - take care that you don't overdo it. Time comes around when you will just fall into a slump and we know how bad that can be. Glad to here the right man got into the job. Rest up now you political animal you!!
Happy - those frozen veg sound good. We don't get Green Giant here, but no doubt there will be something similar. I might go for a look one day if I ever get out of here when the shops are open. Yep we have been doing a bit of food porn lately - but I'm having enough trouble doing a rant with the terrible twins here without having to look at you lot as well. Today I need to sooth a couple of bruised egos and wind them up at the same time to produce more than one thing a day. Good help is hard to find. They seem to think we are finished and ready - Bulldust is the answer to that one.
Running out of time again. So much to do, so little time. I need to do a rant at the Change Manager (who doesn't change by the way) because I have a bunch of would be trainers on my hands getting ready for mutiny because they have no idea where and when they are travelling to train. Can't say that I blame them unduly. Did I mention this project sucks??
11-07-2007, 06:53 PM
Shad, does the printer path go by any other name? Cuz there isn't anything called 'path' under printer settings. I do have a network (I think) - wireless printing from my laptop. Maybe I'll google 'printer path' to see if I can find a synonym... if I could find the path I could enter it manually under allowed thingies on the antivirus site. Thanks for the long-distance help!
Enjoy the rant(s), and good luck whipping everyone into shape. (No, not us, those roosters and the 'change' manager. Love the title!)
11-08-2007, 01:23 AM
I would not have thought that you had a printer path unless you have networked all your computers and are using one as the server. Then you would have a printer path (cos the printer would be set up at the server) something like WP-L04-02 on Perprn14. If you have simply put the printer onto the computer with a driver or it's plug and play, the name of the computer should be sufficient.
Anyway I should go do some work. I'll mull over the problem while I chew out some of the programmers
11-08-2007, 09:23 AM
Hello chicks, no time to post today. Just a quick
Sorry your project sucks the big one Shad. How much longer on this one? Of course it seems like a long time since "gee I can't WAIT to get into work".
Carla - thanks for the cat offer but I've got one of my own and 2 neighborhood cats we support too. :D
Can't help you on the printer stuff - that's why I have a husband and we each have our place
Gotta run. Catch up tonight...
11-08-2007, 05:35 PM
And a very early morning it is too. Aaahh well, I can go about my evil deeds without harrassment for the moment. Yesterday I finally managed to send the Fijian into panic mode. Then I told him that I was loaning him to finance next week to put data in for them since he was so good at mine. He's doing double time now I can tell you. My Malayasian chick wasn't so easy to whip and soothe. She is a details person and can't stand full stops or commas in the wrong place. I think we have come to a place where we will be able to co-operate. Then I had to gently let my business process person know that I won't tolerate her yelling at my troops. That should she have a problem, come to me and we will sort it together without the language. Shheeeezzzzz and my mother said I would never make a diplomat. I just wanted to knock their bloody heads together.
I've had a week of wins so far. I have forced a decision out of the business regarding the course that has been postponed (no.1 win that) and yesterday managed to get a draft schedule out of the people who are scheduling classes - yippee so now I can say the mutiny is all but over. It's been a stressful week but..... At least I can look back with a form of satisfaction and say that we have achieved something. And it is Friday.
Rennie - I've decided why the Buckeye food porn balls must be good for you. The chocolate disguises the peanut butter and the parrafin makes all things come to pass (so to speak). Maybe we better get off the subject of balls because it does peculiar things to MEL.
I had to laugh when you talked about using Jiff to make the balls because over here, Jiff is a bath cleaner. Comes in powder or liquid paste forms. Which would you use in your Buckeye???
Carla - hope you can get some decent info out of the tech department for your firewall/printer problem. I did ask a couple of IT people here and they looked at me with blank faces. Why am I not surprised - I used more than 2 syllables per word I guess. I'll try the home grown variety when I email him today.
Happy - Carla's cats are really, really good at the waking alarm bit. Really it should read waking in an alarmed state with those two. My bladder has yet to recover. Just joking Carla. But you gotta admit his aim is good. I'll send over Sunday too if required. She just paws at the face (claws out if you don't respond quickly) and ears to let you know that she requires something. She's also not averse to sitting on your head either.
Melly - my buddy, howse youse doin' as they say over here in the west. I knew the talk of balls would get you going. Love to Jen and Rich. Hope you are all getting better by the day.
Okay - with that it is almost time for breakfast and I can sit there and dream up some horrors for the troops while supping on coffee and orange juice and eating my hollandaise eggs - don't call them benedict over here. Back later.
11-08-2007, 05:59 PM
Yup, I suppose it's time to start thinking Christmas goodies. I make a Velveeta fudge, spiced mixed nuts and white chocolate cranberry crunch that seems to be a must for my friends. Some of them are hinting already when I mentioned going to the Bulk Barn.
Chickies, I'm really dragging my butt these days and am darn sure it's all the pain killers I've been doing. My poor liver probably is overworked. I may have to cut the acetaminophen and switch to Scotch. The morning trip to the gym is just not happening - not sure how to get my groove back.
There's been lots of SPAM and trolls online lately so I've been managing to keep busy. People have too much time on their hands, I'm afraid.
Send me some cats - my mouse traps are not being efficient these days and I hate dealing with the undead - especially in rodents!
Need to feed my darling Hershey, The Velcro Dog. I think she wants to be sure she has a warm place for the winter because she sure is sucky.

Ruth, you want cats??? Do I have a couple of cats for you... Besides their miracle alarm clock imitations, they have......
....very few redeeming qualities.   But Z would be company for Hershey, as he gets along fine with nice dogs.
As for your pain management, are you going to have your surgery up here in O. or somewhere else? It seems to me I read one of the hospitals was planning to implement a new program to zip thru the hip/knee waiting list. Might be worth checking into. (If I've misunderstood the problem, sorry - old age creeping up and all.)
What the heck is Velveeta fudge? Not an appetizing mental image...

Happy birthday to you :balloons:
Wish I had your programming abilities.
you'll be able to figure out the computer/printer problem.
I'm having pumpkin soup tonight as well. It smells good. Stick to the WW program. I like the fact that there are several veggies that are 0 points.
The work computer went to the computer doctor yesterday. Last night I was too tired to start up my computer.
Took a pause day today with the food but I did get up and exercise.
I've decided not to go to Paragould until Saturday. I need to work in the yard tomorrow afternoon.

Today has been enormously frustrating from the IT point of view... The friendly Panda antivirus help desk sent me an email with a lovely patch to fix my problem. I should have know better than to go ahead when I got a Windows warning not to use it, but... Anyway, their 'hot fix' disabled my wireless access, so I couldn't go on-line at all. :tantrum: It was a while before I remembered about system restore, which took me back in time to a happier place. Still printer problems, but at least I can get on-line again. I now have instructions to eliminate all trace of the software and re-install it. Since this is becoming a full-time job, I think they should start paying me a salary, which I would of course share with y'all for listening to me whinge and whine.:D :D
On the positive side, I went to a 90 minute spin class tonight. :ebike: They've installed little computers on the bikes that work with your heart rate monitor, and of course I love gadgets almost as much as chocolate... At one point I was getting really worried - it said I'd only been peddling for 39 minutes, and I was already pretty pooped. Then I realized it was set to kilometers and not time! :faint: At that point there was actually only about 15 minutes left, and I just blew through it as if I were fit. A total of 50 km pedaled, with a lot of it going up steep hills... and a lot more of it happily peddling with next to no resistance. ;)
Hasta manana, chiquititas!

Quick  and a belated Happy Birthday to Rennie. I hope you can keep the celebration going for the weekend.
My dinner party tonight has grown to nine which isn't a problem as I have tons of food. Most of it is ready to roll but I need to cobble together the appetizers at the last minute. Anybody want to volunteer to stuff cherry tomatoes for me. The female half of the Hyper Pypers will arrive at noon - Margo, her DD Elaine and my grand-dog Bailey. Bailey is Lucy's sister (same litter) and it will be strange to have her here as they are alike in many ways.
OMG - someone's at the door - at 6:52!!! ?????

HAPPY SATURDAY/SUNDAY AND HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!
11-10-2007, 07:29 PM
Sunny Sunday over here - supposed to get up to 32C but if it does I don't feel it. Yesterday was supposed to be 30C but unless you were in the sun, it wasn't very warm at all. Mind you I wasn't all that well yesterday. Went home from work on Friday feeling pretty yucky and had a rotten nights sleep and woke up with a runny nose and headache. Basically, yesterday I did NOTHING except read and a small amount of housework and a bit of shopping. I did manage to get my hair cut - :yikes: - and my wallet took a bit of a hammering from that. No wonder they reckon Perth is the dearest city for pensioners in Aust. I whinged at $40 for a basic shampoo, cut and dry over East but this cost me $65.00 :faint: The grocery shopping yesterday cost me less than that.
Think I might have to take up hairdressing - second thoughts no.... I have no talent in that direction at all.
Mel - those blokes that ride bikes in the winter are morons. No brain no pain I say. They zip through the traffic as if they were late for everything and roar around the freeways and back country roads as if they owned them. I saw one last weekend with just a cotton shirt, shorts, thongs and his helmet. Um thongs - flip flops? Jandals? Nevermind they aren't the wearing about the hips variety!!! They go on your feet. Just imagine the mess he would be in if he ever came off the bike. Sent you an invite via the e-mail. Think you will enjoy that one. They look like firemen to me.
Just had a message over the PA telling me that for the next 20 minutes I will not be able to get out of the basement car park. Shame - cause I am not in the basement car park.
Carla - Welcome to IT - it stands for Irritatingly Trivial. You will probably find, when the problem is solved that something exceedingly trivial was the cause. It's a learning experience IT. We have a similar thing here with the *HOT PATCHES*. Hot patch is the IT equivalent of a hot flush. Always something goes wrong during it. When the PS team (that's Project Systems - its another module in SAP) put in a Hot Patch, it nearly always interferes with the way the PM team are using their module. We get all sorts of stupidity happening because THE TWO TEAMS DON'T TALK TO EACH OTHER. Drives me crazy    I'm waiting for those men in white coats.
Holly - good to see you back even if not well. Get out of here and on with the list. It starts looking good when you start to cross out the jobs.
Patty - my month hasn't been the best. Too much stress and angst for that. However I have managed to stop the gaining and am holding steady. By the end of this week, my hours should almost be back to normal and I can start back at the exercise again. Hope the study goes well. When do you finish this course and what is it again?? I think you did tell me, but I am in holding pattern as far as the brain goes at the moment. All I can see in front of me is a huge list of things to do.
Ruth - don't keep us in suspense - who was at the door at 6.52am? What a cheek. Dinner sounds like fun. I can come over and stuff tomatoes. I'm good at it - well not stuffing tomatoes actually - but if you want a good stuff up, I'm just the person for it. Mel and I between us, can stuff anything up!
I think I had better go and do some work. I'm about 1/2 over my alloted time. I'll be back before I go home this afternoon.
11-10-2007, 09:05 PM
I have officially "seasonally" flipped my lid. I have jack o lanterns on the back porch and a Christmas tree in my living room. The tree is pretty. It is the $49.99 pre lit one from Walmart. It is more than "just good enough".
Next thing I will be breaking out my Elvis Christmas CD.
I am feeling mucho better!!
I have at least 1/2 of my list done.
Shad-I charge $17.00 for a shampoo cut and blowdry. Some higher end shops might charge $30.00. I am in shock. Hope you feel well soon.
Dinner at Ruth's will have progressed to after dinner drinks. Hey, I stuffed tomatoes when I was there!!!
Mel- we had a bit of snow the other day. Didn't stick tho.
HUGS to all!!!!!!!
11-10-2007, 09:06 PM
I am posting this for my Mom. Her one eye is pretty bad again so she needs to stay off the computer. She will be back in a few days. Maybe mid week.
11-10-2007, 09:45 PM
Poor Mel. Rest up old buddy and keep chugging the water and taking naps. I hope it sorts itself out soon.
11-11-2007, 08:15 AM
Poor Mel! I hope she's better soon.
My early morning visitor yesterday was friend Art who had some venison for me. Of course he came in for coffee and I ended up cooking him breakfast. I seldom have bacon but had bought some for my company so it all worked out. Lovely venison steak, Shad - I'll think of the lousy one you had in Merrickville when I cook it.
Dinner went well and a good time was had by all - even Elaine (13) who laughed and talked with the adults. She also had her very first glass of champagne - there may be a connection. :)
Everyone is still asleep except me and the Doggage. I'm going to get some breakfast and then get organized for Church. There's a Remembrance Day ceremony at 11 and I'm hoping to work in a Harry visit later. I'm not sure when they are leaving but am assuming mid afternoon. If they stay for dinner, there's lots of leftovers - no stuffed tomatoes though!
Have a sunny Sunday no matter the weather.
11-11-2007, 12:03 PM
Good morning chicks,
Mel - rest up and join us soon - we will miss you
Sounds like everyone is busy. Me too. Trying to hunker down and get some things done. As always about 100 times more things to do than time to do them in. Got to stay focused as I get more easily distracted the more I have to do ;)
Enjoy your Sunday ladies. I'll try and pop by tonight.
11-11-2007, 04:34 PM
Take care Mel!!
Ruth- wishing i was at your house..............
Our cenotaph service and church service were wonderful. My kids were well behaved and really listened. The kids sang too.
We have picked up groceries, put stuff away and then cleaned and deliver some Avon. I have 6 loads of laundry to do.
This week coming up is completely wackily FULL!!!! Hoping all goes as scheduled.
11-11-2007, 05:34 PM
Ruth - what a nice man to bring you something to do so early in the morning. Hope it is infinitely better than the forgettable Merrickville dinner - not the company but the main course itself. As I remember, the wine and conversation flowed very well and the rest of the meal was fine. We must try it again sometime.
Remembrance day came and went. I had every intention of going to the service at Kings Park however I really felt bad and I was at work and somehow things didn't happen. Must be a first. Normally I am the one handing out the rosemary sprigs. Same thing on Anzac Day. I must be sick.
I only came in this morning because I have one or two things to complete and to rouse up the hired help - I am determined that they should be finished and complete before the end of the week. We start all out training next week and I do not want to have stacks of rewrites left to do or documentation left undone. I am being sent to Karratha for 2 days next week and I also don't want them sitting around doing nothing for that time. I'll have to find something for them to do or loan them to another area. Decisions, decisions.
Holly - glad you are back on top of the dreaded lurgy, and busy again. Hope the wee girl gets over it soons
Happy, buzz away at those chores. At least it is different chores from work chores.
I'd better go and get on with it.
11-12-2007, 09:20 AM
Good morning ladies,
Shad - are you feeling a bit under the weather? Sounds like not only do you have your own work to do but are the defacto team lead/chick mover and shaker. Is this by choice or is it the old - from any group a leader will automatically emerge? I say you go and lend the chicks to other areas - this way they will be so happy to have you back again
Must be a foggy Monday morning. Not much to say. Lots to do though. We have another shot of nice weather again. Good for being outside and picking up all those darn leaves. The trees are finally turning here. We have some gorgeous reds and redish golds. The Bradford pear trees that line the main street here are red at the top, yellow in the middle and dark green down at the bottom. Just breathtaking. We don't have color all over due to the trees stressed over the drought but the ones that are in color are beautiful. You just have to stop and admire them as you come upon them.
Best get on with the day. Love to the chicks.
Special healing hug to Mel
11-12-2007, 10:42 AM
Happy Monday which may edge towards Moanday if Kevin doesn't show soon to work on my barn. :( He was to do it in August and all the barn junk (and junque) is on the car side of the building. It's getting close to time to stable my poor Focus for the night as i detest scraping frost and ice off the windshield. K. has to jack up the east side of the barn to replace the rotting sill and has been ignoring my reminder calls - he has call display. However, I got him last week by calling on the cell and he's supposed to be here today. Grrr!
My painting class is this afternoon. I'm going to give myself a break by working on a small painting. I do get tired of lugging a large easel and canvas down the steps to the Church Hall basement. I didn't get in to visit Harry yesterday afternoon as planned so will try to do that after class. I had a two hour nap yesterday after the Pypers left and sort of creamed the afternoon.
The darned ticker is wrong again this morning after a rather indulgent weekend. The food was good but there seems to be quite a collection of empty wine bottles on the back deck! I reviewed some old diaries this morning and realized I've been over 200 since about 1990! My setpoint is carved in granite, I guess. Eliminating the wine with dinner should help but it really has become a habit, I'm afraid. I'll work on it.
I'm going out to hack down some fake bamboo with my hatchet and pretend it's Kevin's :censored:.
11-12-2007, 04:14 PM
Crap! I canceled out on my painting class because the breeder was going to bring Serena for a little visit. She just called to say she is running late and has to get home to feed puppies so can't come. She'll be here Wednesday evening.
I wish people would show more respect for other people's time!
Kevin hasn't shown either. Maybe I'll just head for bed and start today over!
11-12-2007, 06:30 PM
Hi all. It was a busy weekend, with a little too much of the 'wrong' foods  no wine  and a 2.5 hour hike in the woods . Judging by the scales this morning, either a draw or a slight upward trend - there was a lot of :censored: at the dinner party, and all caution was thrown to the winds after the first bite of absolutely scrumptious bread. Today I finally decided to try the latest fix from Panda, and after two attempts to reload the software, lo and behold, so far I have printer access!!
Tonight is spin class again - I'm trying very hard to make it at least a twice a week habit. I've even found a spin studio in Toronto that accepts drop-ins, so I'll be able to get at least one spin a week while there. It'll be a busy trip - besides work, two probably rather Ruth-like (ie well-watered) dinners out, and, with luck, either drinks or dinner with Madcat. And, of course, the mega craft show and possibly another quiet birthday dinner with coleagues. Whew! For a low-energy person like me, that's quite a busy schedule, and I'm exhausted in anticipation... :faint: Too bad I can't just do the fun stuff and call in sick.
Mel, so sorry the danged eye is on the blink (pun intended) again. It just seems no sooner do you get one thing under control than something else goes haywire. Sure wish there was something concrete we could do to help! Feel the :grouphug: and the :goodvibes:
Shad, where is this place they're sending you, and are you sure the folks you've been cracking the whip at haven't arranged for it to be a one-way trip? We'll be awaiting your return with bated breath! Good luck with moving things closer to a merciful release.
I did send you a wave and a halloo while in the woods Sat - it wasn't the trail we did together, it was the one we'll do when you come back.
Happy, are you ajusting to the time change yet? If not, my offer of feline alarm clocks is still good. ;) (Actually, I'd be miserable with out them, but I still dream of life without furry responsibilities and no cat hair on my clothes and furniture and bed and floor and...)
Ruth, I firmly believe that calling a kid 'Kevin' dooms him to being both charming and a disappointment. This is not a scientific theory, just personal observation and the theory of a couple of elementary school teachers.
Do you take all your - er, glass recyclables back for the refund? Here in Ottawa enterprising street people cycle around to condos and apt buildings to dive for recyclables in the bins, and make a pretty good living at it. (But not at my building, at least not since one of them told our super's 13-year old daughter to f off. Now our bin's indoors...
Is Serena a puppy you're interviewing to come live with you and Hershey? Details, pleas!
Yikes, gotta go pee and head off to spin city. More later.
11-12-2007, 06:36 PM
Sounds like tradesmen the world over. Promise you the earth, and before you get it they take it away.
This State of Western Australia is called the wait-awhile state. Apparently that is what WA stands for. So I was not expecting to see anyone on time for that either, but to my surprise, the mobile went, the cabinet maker is at the front door, let me in. Then the Plumber and the Electrician turn up 10 minutes late. I was so surprised, I would have let anyone in that turned up that day. Pity the shopkeepers don't take a leaf out of their book, or the real estate people for that matter.
I do feel for you Ruth.
My cold continues and I didn't get home yesterday since one of the others called in sick and I couldn't leave everything to the Rooster. Yesterday I managed to turn him into a Fijian cyclone (hurricane). Full blown panic. Not an easy achievement since the Islanders are not known for being in a rush. And he wasn't feeling too good either - he'd played golf the day before and got a touch of the sun.
Happy - I am the training team lead for Plant Maintenance on this project which means I get my butt kicked and I get to kick their butts. They have given me a doosey lot - a laid back Fijian, a Malaysian that can't work without all the ducks being in a row, and a South African whose attention to detail means that she worries about EVERYTHING!!
Now I better go and worry about a few things. Seems that things are going wrong again around here.
11-12-2007, 06:39 PM
11-12-2007, 10:11 PM
((hugs)) Sounds like you need several.
The fall folliage is here also. It's pretty but not spectacular.
(((hugs))) hope you get better soon. We miss you. Don't over do.
wow an 2.5 mile walk in the woods. If it's not raining Thanksgiving day that is what I want to do. I wanted to this week end.
I know I have been a "dieter" from way back. I've lost the same 10 pounds more than I want to count. I could have already been at my goal weight.
How do you stay so positive about your challenges? I'm going to start my 21 days over once again.
More later. Still nothing new on my end. You could say I live to quite of a life.
11-13-2007, 05:16 AM
Hi Chicks ..... anyone remember me? ..... I have not been on 3FC for ages now and I see my friend Patty has moved in with Shad and her Mad House!
I am still trying to lose weight and hope to get rid of a few pounds before Christmas ;) ..... all those Christmas parties coming up don't help though.
I have another obstacle to overcome tomorrow though. I had been having breast pain for a few weeks and went to my doctor who found some lumps in my breast. Tomorrow I go to get it checked out so I am kinda scared. I had a routine mammogram about 1 year ago and it was OK so I am hoping for the same tomorrow. Any good thoughts or prayers would be gratefully received.
Have a good day all.
11-13-2007, 09:04 AM
Nice to hear from you. Just the other day I was watching a TV program which was set in Ireland and I thought about you and here you are now. Sorry to hear of the breast issues  and  prayers with you that all turns out well. Keep us posted!
Rennie - it's good that you recognize the inherited health problems and get a grip on them before they slap you up side the head. Keep up the good work!
Ceejay - I think the fact that we keep gaining and losing the same 10 pounds over and over is what makes the diet industry a multi billion dollar sure thing. Get out there and get that walk in while it's still nice today and tomorrow and before the rain hits again. :)
Shad, if I recall this is the second cold you've had in the last few months. WA must not be agreeing with you :( I hear you on the wait-again state. I think we are living in your "sister" city. Service is terrible here. Everyone agrees. Nothing changes. Sending you some healing vapors...
Carla - you made me laugh. I'm counting the days until I can "do all the fun stuff and make each day mine". You do sound like you're quite on the run there. Good for you for squeezing in a 2.5 mile hike! Thanks for the cat offer but we have one of our own, 2 cats that adopted us and a few neighborhood roamers. Our kitty must have seen Madcat's video of how to wake someone up because she's been slapping DH around when she wants to get up (sometimes at 4am) Better him than me  My house was actually cat hair free for about 3 years when we were between cats. It was .... nice. This cat has shorter hair and doesn't shed like her predecessor did. So you can keep your babies - you would miss them I'm sure even if you lent them out for a good week or two ;)
Ruth - Kevin called and said :yikes: :censored: Said you really know how to wield a :rollpin: and he will be there today.
Mel - healing vapors I sent to Shad are diverted the long way and are running past you. Hope they don't thin out too much by the time they get to Shad. Hope your peepers are feeling better. I am mentally connecting with you - feel the love?
 busy Holly
Speaking of busy, time for me to get on the run. Have a good one chicks...
11-13-2007, 09:29 AM
Mooz!!!!! Great to "see" you again. Best wishes and positive thoughts for the mammo stuff. I've had the same problems and all was well but know it's hard not to worry.
I've recovered from my "Moan"day and am not going to let other people crap up my Tuesday. The purolator dude is bringing my paper shredder today so I'll work out some frustrations on that!
Carla, bottle recycling? But of course! I took the weekend crop back yesterday and got back a toonie. Of course, I told them that I'd picked them up at the side of the road. My refund money goes right into the Food Bank donation can which assuages my guilt a bit.
No time for indies today but I hope dear MEL is on the mend. Shad, are you taking care of yourself? You sound run down.
Gotta dash and crank up my day.

Welcome back.Sorry to hear about the mammo stuff. Hope things work out for you. I thought my eyes were going wonky on me.
History of heart desease runs very strong in my family also. And just recently the doctor put me on bp meds. I know what I have to do but I don't have the will power to do it. Fomnowon I'll have to do as Mel's ticker says and "Just do it".Do I see another 2 pounds gone. That's great.
Cheer's (holds up glass) This will be a good day.
I walked aa little over 2 miles yesterday and most of it was at work. The security camera shines right on our work area.
Have a good day.

Mooz - what a lovely surprise to wake up to in the morning. Like the others I am sending kind thoughts your way and hope that all is okay. Keep us posted. How's that wonderful family of yours??
Yep, we hijacked Patty a month or so back and she pops in at weekends to let us know of her progress. She will be over the moon to hear you are back. By the way it is not my mad house. I'm here to keep the chaos under control   Just think of me as the policeman on point duty!
Thank you Happy - I am feeling better and I do think I am allergic to the Wait Awhile State. It's been a very stressful project for me. Considering I really didn't want to come here anyway, it's been relatively successful in terms of personal education and enlightenment and I guess I have learnt a few new things - my quasi diplomacy being one of them. How to shut your mouth, count to 10 and speak clearly and calmly is another. The conflict management course I took so long ago, clearly has something going for it!!!! Dealing with multiculturalism is my next one!!!!
It's not that the service is that bad here. Indeed the staff are swarming all over you the minute you enter a shop - and they are nice friendly people. It's the - we've always done it this way - we're different from back east - why should I have to work 6 days a week (from a news agent of all people) - attitude that gets me. I remember your DH saying of Chicago that you would expect the workers to finish one stretch of the road before they started on another - well here the commuters have been waiting 4 years for the railway service to begin on the southside. Granted there is an awful lot of infrastructure to go in, but in Wellington in NZ, they built a freeway to take traffic around the city and end at the airport. Wellington is hilly, fairly small, hard to fit things in and prone to earthquake. But they did it bit by bit, opening sections as they were finished and then moving on to the next bit and the next bit until it was finished. I thought that was fairly useful sort of thinking. This is bizarre. 150K of railway track complete with stations of which the technological factor will probably be out of date before they begin using it - now timed for around 23rd December to open. I ask you! Enough of the rant. I'm told that the only place I could work here is in Plant maintenance because anything else is just to airy fairy for me!!! Thats okay, Finance and HR fill me with horror - you are supposed to nice? Supply chain would be okay except that they have a habit of complicating simple things and PS would drive me nuts because I'd have to work with Engineers!!!!
I think I should stop ranting.
Ruth - pray tell - what is a toonie. I guess it is another Canadianism for some denomination of money. They have loonies up there for heavensake! Still it is probably no worse than a 2 bob bit!
Carla has me worried now. We have an election coming up and one of the candidates for PM is called Kevin! Could be interesting.
Oy Rennie - contagious!!! Me!!! As a group we are a collection of suave and sophisticated women  with a huge amount to offer this world - if the world would only listen. We have more than once solved the problems of the middle east (send a posse of menopausal women in to sort him out), given advice to Mr Bush, Mr Howard, Mr Blair (now Mr Brown) and Mr Harper (notice the profusion of names that start with B and H here) and the Queen about their family problems and the state of the nations.
Morning Ceejay, linus, Madcat, Carla, Meadow, Holly, Mel and others who are lurking and peeking.
Gotta go. Training calls

Message from Mel
GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE. A QUICK NOTE TO LET YOU KNOW I HAVEN'T DIED! LOL THE EYES ARE IMPROVING BUT EVER SO SLOWLY. IT WAS A LOT OF BAD FOOD AND DRINK CHOICES DURING THE ELECTION WEEK AND PERFUMES AND WEATHER ETC. THEY JUST AREN'T GOING TO PUT UP WITH MY CHEATING ANY MORE....BUT WITHOUT CAFFEINE I DON'T THINK I CAN WORK THOSE HOURS. I ALMOST FELL ASLEEP ON ELECTION DAY AND IT WASN'T EVEN 7AM!!! ROFLMAO
I AM NOT UP TO READING THE FORUM JUST YET CAUSE THE LIGHTED SCREEN IS TOO PAINFUL. IF YOU COULD SAY HELLO FOR ME OR POST THIS...WHICHEVER IS EASIER. SENDING LOVE AND HUGS ALL AROUND. JEN SAYS HI TOO. LOVE, PORANGI
11-14-2007, 01:35 AM
Shad, when the dollar coin came out, it was dubbed a loonie because the tails side was of a loon floating on a lake. So when the $2 coin came out, it became the toonie. Every so often there's talk of a $5 coin, but then what would we call it??? (By the way, both coins are the same size, despite the pics below.)
11-14-2007, 08:54 AM
And the silly government wanted us to call them the one dollar and two dollar coin! Duh!
This was supposed to be a really busy day with a quilting class, pet therapy, a flu shot, a meeting re Country Christmas and a visit from the breeder with my new dog. For some reason, I've lucked out and only the last is going to happen. I plan the quick trip to town that didn't happen yesterday and will do some sewing. My favourite kind of day - especially since Donna comes to clean! The breeder and Serena will be here around six (I hope!) and we'll see how tiny Serena manages Hershey, the house and the deck steps to the yard. She's awfully little (6 pounds) and may need a ramp for the steps.
May your hump day be just a gentle slope.
11-14-2007, 09:11 AM
What about calling it a foofie? F - as in fiver? Ok, I just like the sound of the word.
Shad - thanks for passing along the message from Mel. Sounds like she needs to give up working the elections - too many things in the air that will bother her. Not sure what I can recommend as a substitute for caffeine to stay away. Maybe a good pinch in the arm every 10 minutes :yikes: Just kidding tho it seems that and spices really get to her. It's hard having to adjust down. We anxiously await her return...
Rennie - there's other things you can do besides walking videos. Besides they say you have to mix it up once in a while as your body gets used to doing the same things over and over. There's always boxing with your kids  or just chasing them around the room yelling at them :rollpin:
Shad - as for service here - the nicest people in the world are the wait staff who are here at the restaurants. They are so warm and friendly. The problems we have with service are those people who come to repair or do something at the house. When we were doing bids for landscaping we made appointments for estimates and some people just never kept the appointments. When my washing machine had problems the first 3 repair guys they sent had no idea how to work on the type of machine that I had even tho I was very specific on the telephone what model I had. Everyone complains about the service down here. As for road construction in Chicago the joke is that there are 2 seasons up there - winter and road construction. ALWAYS something being torn up that way and you know spring is coming when you see the robins return as well as the orange and white saw horses blocking off your precious traffic lanes.
Good going Ceejay on the 2 miles yesterday. It's good to have a job that gets you up and moving. I know what you mean about knowing what to do but not wanting to do it. It's the eternal question
Saw your light on Ruth as I was trolling through - I expect you'll be checking in soon.
Feeling a bit sniffly myself this morning. Not sure if it's the air or if a cold is coming down. Yesterday it seems I spent all night in the kitchen - cooked up a pot of beef vegetable soup, popped some baked chicken into the oven and made my once a year indulgence of beef stroganoff :T DH detests the smell of cooked mushrooms so I had to chase him out of the house while I was cooking it and then light up some aromatic oils to kill the smell but it was so good. Then I cleaned up the kitchen as well as the inside of the refrigerator. I didn't get to bed until well after midnight and I am very sleepy right now. Every morning I wake up tired and I tell myself TONIGHT I'm going to bed early and it never seems to happen. Maybe I need to have mom come over for a visit so she can holler at me
Off to work now. Have a good day all...
11-14-2007, 11:24 AM
Yup! The five dollar coin shall be called a Foufie and will smell! Too frassing funny! I'll pass the idea on to the Prime Minister next time I see him.
I'm outta here - the quilt shop calls.
Here's a pic of the current project - a wall hanging for my DD which is nearly done - except for batting, backing, quilting and binding! She'd damned well better appreciate it.
11-14-2007, 06:01 PM
Another day in Paradise - or should that be parasites! Ouch. Some folk around here are really starting to p*ss me off I can tell you. Questions, damn questions, more questions and this on stuff that they should already know. My email box is showing signs of overload. Enough of a rant.
Went out to dinner last night. Took the team for a meal. It was very pleasant to have a night off and have a couple of beers and a light meal. Now I have to push them for another two days to get things finished. After that we are more or less finished apart from the actual training. Not much writing stuff to do.
Carla - thanks for the explanation of the coins. I could have waited until I got home to see if I had any loonies and toonies (looney tunes???) but it is nice to know. There's talk here of a $5 coin but the old ladies are complaining about the weight in their handbags! The pollies will duck for cover on that one until after the election.
Ruth - love the quilting. Santa has very skinny legs. Is there a touch of Scotland here? Foufie? why not!!
Happy - no, you are not allowed to have a cold. Nobody is allowed what I had, it's horrid. Soup sounds nice. Love Stroganoff. I'm coming over for dinner.
Rennie - sorry to hear about the knee. Better that you try upper body stuff for a week or so, just to give it some recovery time. Otherwise you'll end up like Ruth and on the list for knee surgery.
Okay - time to move along and answer some more of these damned questions. Had a phone call from one of the Townsville Roosters this morning. Nice to be thought of once in a while.
11-14-2007, 06:18 PM
Hi chickies just dropped in to say that I had a mammogram and then ultrasound and thankfully is was only fatty nodules. I am so relieved …. I am still on a high….. :dizzy: .....the world is a beautiful place right now …. :carrot:
Hope you are all having a good day ......
11-14-2007, 07:25 PM
That's great news. I'd be doing a happy dance.
11-14-2007, 08:04 PM
Yippee! Glad I checked in to get the Mooz Nooz!
I'm waiting for the breeder and Serena - she's "running a bit late" again but IS on her way. Wanna bet she gets lost on some of the back roads?
11-14-2007, 11:38 PM
Sorry I have been lurking, ladies, but it has been one of THOSE weeks. I’ve been assigned to a new project at the same time that a bunch of backburner stuff suddenly boiled over. I’ve already but in something close to 25 hours this week – and Monday was a day off. Enough whining… on we go.
I always thought the Toonie (or is it twoonie?) should have been called the dubloonie (double-loonie, get it? Get it? ) or the Polar (because of the bear). But does anyone listen to me?? I remember the fervor when they brought the coins out – but now we don’t think twice about them.
Oh Mooz, so nice to see you and what great news on the boob-squish. Yes, the world is a beautiful place.
Ruthie~ Is the new doggie coming today? The quilt is lovely. Careful in those quilt shops! There is something about all those beautiful colours and textures that is so alluring.
Shy~ Sorry about your knee problems. Take it easy and let yourself heal.
Shad~ shovel those emails to one side and take a nice deep breath. Dinner out seems like a good idea. First the carrot and then get the big stick out. You may have to beat them all over the finish line. But there will be a finish line.
Happy~ Your Dh doesn’t like the smell of cooking mushrooms? I have never heard that one before. I feel the same way about liver and beets. Maybe you could just call your Mom and she’d yell at you over the phone?? You should take it easy and get over your sniffles.
Shad~ Thanks for posting Mel’s message. I hope she is on the mend. We miss her when she has to go awol.
Ok, I have to go. I sent work home to do but I’m just not up to it. I have to take the car in for its checkup tomorrow so at least I will have to leave work at a reasonable hour tomorrow to pick it up again. Like The Terminator, I’ll be back.:p
11-15-2007, 05:11 AM
Wonderful, wonderful Mooz Nooz (love it - they are a poetic lot here)
So happy for you Mooz. :flow1:  :flow1::dance:  :flow1:  :flow1::dance:  :flow1:  :flow1::dance:  :flow1:  :flow1::dance:  :flow1:  :flow1::dance:
Dancing among the flowers over here.
Time to go home and smell some flowers. Night all
11-15-2007, 09:58 AM
A very good morning to you chicks,
Great news Mooz - so happy that things are well for you. Now go and enjoy life!
Loved the quilt Ruth - skinny legs and all
Welcome back Madcat. I love your avatar. What a pretty kitty! Don't stress out on the work front - all you'll get for it is a cold and a weakended immune system  I'll write to the Canadian government and suggest they let you name the money because you have such catchy titles
Shad - you are very artistic with the smilies. I notice the more stressed I feel the more I throw myself into artsy, crafty things - methinks you need some R&R. Tell them you need a few days off next week to celebrate the American Thanksgiving (as in giving thanks we have a 4 day weekend  ) I have saved you a plate of stroganoff. I have to make a list of things you like so I can make them when you come and visit...
Rennie - good going on giving the knees a bit of a gentle rest. You can stomp around later on. Sometimes you have to get to a point where you realize that if you don't ease up for a few days, you will take yourself out of the game for 2 weeks with a flare up. I'm sure you have plenty of ways to move.
Ceejay - did you get the dreadful storms yesterday? I was at work in the middle of the building and missed most of them but it was dark as night just before I left to go home and windy as all get go. Was gorgeously warm yesterday and brrrrrrrr very cold this morning.
Time for this chick to fly out the door.  to the rest of the clan
11-15-2007, 02:41 PM
Sometimes I think God puts obstacles in our way to make us slow down.
Take care of your knee.
The biggest storm came on Tuesday. I'd had to run the plant for thrity minutes at a time that day before I had to completely shut it down due to the extreme lightning. It got dark here also. Yesterday wasn't quite as bad. But it was still enough to upset my nerves.
Madcat and Shad
Don't let work get you down.
To the rest
I started to go to the distrtict meeting today but just didn't want to drive to Jonesboro, AR. Even got up and got dressed then to the gas station to fill up the car and half way to the interstate then decided I didn't want to go. I really need to be cleaning the house this week end as I'm planning on having my sister from Missouri for a couple of days the first of the week. I'm getting excited. I'm claustraphobic in crowds.
Have a good day.
11-15-2007, 03:12 PM
Well, the dog visit happened but I have decided Serena (a Brussels Griffon) is not for me. Hersh was OK with her but the damned thing sheds on you when you cuddle her and I also seem to be allergic to her. First hint was an itchy neck and running eyes, followed shortly by a sneezing attack that bordered on asthma. I've not told the breeder yet but must do that before I go West. I was not completely in love with this critter anyhow - "She's so ugly she's cute" doesn't work for me! So Hersh and I will be a two-some for a while until the right dog comes along.
The morning (and part of the afternoon) is down the tube with a flu shot this morning, breakfast at Bob's Diner, coffee with two different groups there and then Terry on my doorstep when I got home. I offered her a tea and she accepted! Once again I'm not going to get to town to shop. Think of the $$$ I'm saving.
Hersh and I are going to put on a CD or two and sew for a while. Donna canceled out on cleaning this afternoon. She'll be here tomorrow, I hope, and I'll take off to town then.
See y'all later.
11-15-2007, 06:54 PM
Believe me I know how hard it is to find the right dog, Rennie. They need to worm their way into my heart as Hershey and Lucy did - and Libby the abandoned hound and Sandbag the rejected Cocker before that.
Another breeder friend is starting into Tsvetnaya Bolonkas. They are small and look like messy coated Portuguese Water Dogs. One of her females was just bred so should have pups mid-January. That might work out for an April (8 week) puppy for me. If I can manage to get my damned knee operation in January.....
Hersh and I had a lovely relaxing afternoon of quilting and now are going to share supper - chicken and green beans.
11-15-2007, 09:46 PM
I'm about to watch Grey's but just got an email from Shad. You've all been made pornographic again and I can not get into the site. So forgive my absence, I'll be back as soon as you are presentable!!!
I am removing my pasties and g-string and donning a flannel granny gown. Maybe that will help.
11-16-2007, 12:25 AM
Hey, I am having matching red plaid flannel nighties made for me and DD for Christmas and matching red flannel sleep pants for the boys.I am going shopping next week for the fabric after i feed hubby's family dinner on Sunday.
11-16-2007, 01:25 AM
ok, ok. I'll go hitch up the "girls" again and put my bra back on. I honestly didn't think the security people could see them through the computer monitor Shad.
The things I do for my friends at 3FC  ;) ...
BTW Ruth. I'm a cat person but that puppy is just ADORABLE!!!!!!
11-16-2007, 09:33 AM
Ok, I put a robe on. Let Shad back in people ! Nice gown Ruth :D I thought those shorts were cute too Rennie  I'm sure once Holly gets her new jammies they will pass muster.
Friday at last :yay: Short week next week too. I can't BELIEVE it's Thanksgiving already. 2 blinks of an eye and Christmas will be here. This year has really, really flown by. Everyone says that. Maybe it's an "un-leap" year and they removed a few days on us :dunno:
Holly - why are you doing Christmas so early? Does it come earlier in Canada like your Thanksgiving?
Not much to say. It's cold again. Frost on the ground this morning. A chill in the house until the furnace gets cranking. Once again we are reminded that we need to replace the antique front door that is warped enough to let in a bit of a draft. Problem is that the door places are only open 9 to 5 and sometimes not even that. Businesses really don't accomodate the working person down here.
Anyway, I need to get cranking here. Happy Friday chicks. Be good or at least stir up enough trouble to have fun  ;)
11-16-2007, 11:44 AM
I'm glad I'm on my home computer today. The secruity camera at work may get an eye full this morning.
I'm excited. If nothing happens my sister and bil from Missouri will be here Monday and stay with me till Thursday. They will get up early Thursday and drive to his mom's in Searcy to spend Thanksgiving day with her. I only work Sunday and Monday and I'm off the rest of the week.
It's a little nippy here this morning. I wasn't up early enough to see the frost. Did you have to mention Christmas? I think I'm getting to be an old Scrouge. Not sure if that's the correct spelling.
Your puppy looks like the dog that mom had. She's adorable.
It wasn't mandatory that I go to this meeting but it was a way to earn credit hours towards my water license renewal. I'm checking at a university to see if they have any internet classes that I can take for credit. I need 24 hours every 2 years to renew my license. I'm debating on whether to get a enviromental degree. It wouldn't help my status at work, but would look good on a resume.
To the rest  Have a good day. Stay on plan.
11-16-2007, 03:01 PM
Shy, I'm pretty sure Red would give you special dispensation to take a couple of days off without losing your 21-day challenge. But if you insist on continuing, don't forget to ice it regularly. (In fact the whole RICE formula would help: rest, ice, compression, elevation.) A good massage therapist could also do wonders to speed the healing process, and some people swear by arnica salve rubbed into the sore area.
I'm not sure how it happened, but I seem to have given myself special dispensation to eat and drink everything in sight. :( :o Oh well. At least I'm continuing with the spinning. In fact I'm sitting in a spare boardroom at a very hoity-toity client's offices, knowing I have my very unflattering sports bra on under the pretty blouse so I won't waste time racing off to class later on. Soon I'll put on the cycling shorts under my slacks. Maybe it's the shapeless uni-boob and the strange leg and butt lumps I'll create that will keep us on Shad's porn list?
Oops, gotta go. Time to get back in the box...
11-16-2007, 09:50 PM
I feel well today!! What a terrible run. I had that double ear and sinus infection for 2 weeks,I was well for 10 days, and then viral pneumonia for 4 weeks. Enough of that nonsense!!
Just listening to my Boney M Christmas cd while making fudge. I have an 18lb turkey in the fridge....weeeeeeeeee!!! Hubby's family are coming for Christmas this Sunday. The in laws leave for Arizona for 5 months nest Wed.
11-17-2007, 10:40 AM
Crossing my fingers that I won't get sick before I leave on Wednesday but also taking Vit. C and Echinacea.
As they say in Delta, I may be a bit "seldom" around here for the next little while as I am going out West to see my dd for a week. I may still be online to do MOD and South Beach stuff but time will be limited. You can always snoop in the South Beach Chat if you're worried that I've croaked.
Between then and now, I have a huge list of things to do including persuading the Country Christmas Committee that it will still happen on the 24th although I won't be here. It's not like it's never been done before - it's been happening since 1996! Claire is coming over tomorrow morning to get the list of costumes and props from me plus the list of who wears what and when. Doug who is King Herod still has his beard although Claire detests it. I bet it'll be off by 9 PM Saturday!
Two of the "lads" are coming to work outside for me this morning if it's not "too cold" for their wussy little butts. What ever happened to real men? My goal for the weekend is to get the barn in order so the car can go in there at night. Kevin has been fired as my contractor - I'll get a real contractor in the spring as soon as the frost is out of the ground. My friend Marlaine is a grave digger (really!) and will let me know when that happens. All four sills are rotted out so it'll be a really big job and $$$ but that's then and this is now.
Gotta dash and be dressed in case these guys show at ten. I won't put on coffee and thaw muffins until they actually make it.
11-17-2007, 12:37 PM
I am bound and determined to get this house cleaned this weekend top to bottom.
Have a safe trip Ruth.
Go for the environmental degree Ceejay. We need to bring back the 70's and be concerned about Mother Earth again instead of just ourselves and the almighty dollar.
And the big question is - why did parents let their kids get so lazy? They are calling the latest group of (I use the term loosely) "adults" to enter the workforce - millenials. These are kids who were raised that everyone is a winner - there are no losers and they are all very special human beings. Good qualities but taken to the extreme. Now they expect a big raise and bonus just for showing up to work, look at you like you are insane if asked to work a spot over the minimum work week - because after all - their friends and family are their most important focus and they aren't killing themselves on the job like their parents did. And the companies coddle them further because they are afraid they will lose the new, young "talent". In the meantime, WE get to pick up their slack. This is why you see people of my age not only still supporting their old kids but their grandchildren too. And I blame the people who raised them and allowed them to be that way. I know of two people who are bringing up their kids with the same attitude of I love you and I will support you but let's face it life is tough, you have to work and you don't always get what you want. They have the best families I've seen in a long, long time. I'll go now before I get too revved up on the soapbox...
A question to you tech writers - did you take classes for this skill or did you just go into a field with your natural talents? My manager wants to send one of my coworkers to class and I don't know if they actually teach that stuff. I looked online but alot seem to be a waste of money that focus on grammar and spelling (which agreed seem to be a lost art now a days). But I'm looking for something that teaches technique.
Have a good weekend - I'm off to tackle the monster...
11-17-2007, 01:36 PM
Good morning chicks.
My honest opinion is that the newest work force is a product of the "hippy" generation. They were all laid back. I'm still throwing the ball up in the air about getting the enviromental degree. It would not take me long, and most of the classes are internet.
I'm about finished with the house cleaning. I need to run to walmart and pick up a few things I forgot to buy yesterday and to the grocery store.
Enjoy the time with your daughter. We'll hold the fort down while you are gone.
Already in the Chirstmas spirit. I'm going to put a turkey breast in the oven to have this week end. I'm sure I'll freeze part of it for later use. It's a good sized one. Save me a piece of fudge.
Have a good day.
11-17-2007, 03:24 PM
I think you hit it on the head Rennie about trying to be their friend instead of their parent. They should be comfortable about coming to you about anything :o but you are still the one who sets the bar and the tone and makes sure they understand the cardinal rule that for every action there are consequences.
I agree with you totally.
Ceejay if the classes are on the Internet and you can go at your own pace (provided you stick to a schedule) then that might not be a bad idea. I don't plan on working long enough to justify the investment in furthering my education at this point. I just want to get the :censored: out of Dodge as fast as I can
11-18-2007, 02:16 AM
No you are not un-pornographic. I have come down to find an internet cafe. I found one - it's a slow one, but at least it is open which is something in Perth on a Sunday.
Message from Jen about Mel this morning (I was at work) to say that poor Mel has cysts in both eyes and is in a poor state and will not be back any time soon. Jen has taken her phones of the hook and put a do not disturb sign on the door and Mel is ORDERED to rest!!!!
Jen will pick up mail from time to time but not everyday so if you want to send an e-mail it will eventually be delivered.
I have no idea what they do to the internet at work. It appears (so I heard) the other day that they don't have an SOE as such (Standard Operating Environment) because they can't agree on what to put in it!!!! %^&$&^% and so from time to time the standards just change. Last week things reverted back to 3 weeks ago in SAP. There was a fair amount of roaring going on in our joint I can tell you. This place is like the corner store which has grown into a multi national identity but still has the corner store mentality. I told my agent AGAIN this week that if he ever does this to me again, I will personally go to Sydney and cut his knackers off!
Can't reply straight off to all - but........
Ruth - thanks for putting out the message. I really didn't think that Serena was going to be the dog for you. You like them a little bigger than that - I'm not into upholstered rats or delapidated bath mats either.
Enjoy your holiday.
Ceejay - go for the degree. Even if you never get to use it as such, learning keeps the brain active and less risk of dementia type brain strains.
Happy - Yes there are such things as documentation writing courses. I went to one that still sticks with me although I'm having difficulty with the name of the trainer Rob Mc someone. He does or at least did courses all over the world. I will see if I can find some information at home next weekend.
Sorry - I gotta get off here. I'll try to get back before I hit Brisbane next Friday, but I'm not certain about that. Monday I am here in Perth, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I am at a place called Karratha on the coast about 1300Km north of Perth. Then I am flying home to Brisbane for a long weekend before coming back to Perth to do some more Training, more trips to Karratha and some Finance doco. This should be good. I know nothing about Finance. If I hear any more about Mel, I will send somebody an e-mail. Have Ruths and Carla's in my local list and I thought I could remember Happy's but obviously not.

Hey guys, good Sunday Morning. I've been enjoying my weekend off after a LONG work week. Spent yesterday with my friend and helped her with some laundry and then watched a DVD. I left after she ran out of steam and was starting to feel some pain. It's odd that being with someone who living under such difficult circumstances can be such a positive experience. She really is amazing.
Ruth~ Have a terrific trip! Getting a new contractor will probably really cut the stress out of the reno.
Happy~ I learned tech writing from doing it, but did actually get a college diploma through night school to legitimize my experience when I was ready to officially switch careers. But I have to admit I didn’t learn much that I didn’t know in college. I know that more universities and colleges are offering courses so there are probably some good ones out there. As most things, it will depend on who is teaching. Tech writing is a lot more about organizing information and presenting it in a logical manner than it is about grammar and spelling. I’m not sure thinking can be taught.
Rennie~ I suspect that our parent’s generation probably said the same thing about us when we were at their age. And I wasn’t the child of hippies, as both my parents were born in the 20s. They were never my “best friends”, they were my parents. I agree with Happy that raising kids to think the world is a peachy place and everyone is great probably is setting these kids up for some sort of fall when the real world hits.
Ceejay~ I agree with Shad. You should get the degree just for the fun of it - plus it’s probably a good career move. Learning makes life interesting.
Shad~ Do you think threats of physical violence will keep your agent in line? Cool. It sounds as if the organization pulls its procedures out of their hat. Maybe they have one of those big game wheels that they spin each morning to see how they will do business today. You must be counting the days. Have fun on the whirlwind tour of Australia. Thanks for the Mel update.
Holly~ Some one is obviously starting early on the Christmas thing. I heard the first Christmas carols in the mall this week.
Ok, I have to go and call my Mom (speaking of parenting) and find out what the cats are up to. At some point I have to get a shower in. I was going to go to the gym, but now the morning has slipped away. I have some more cleaning to do. Everyone have a good day.
11-18-2007, 07:08 PM
The family has departed. It was a fabulous day. My meal was perfect. I am a great hostess, LOL! Much joviality ensued. We grazed on dessert and munchies and wine/ beer all afternoon ,after dinner at 1pm. The house is still clean and the dishes are done!! Yippee!!!!! We will have turkey on home made buns before bed.
Kids need baths. I LOVE my husbands family. Particularly DSIL and all my nieces and nephews. My kids are the youngest by many years so completely hero worship the big kids, who are all teenagers now.
I am going to put my jammies on and put my feet up. I have been going full steam ahead for 12 hours. I think there is some wine left too. mmmmmmmm
So we are done with Christmas now until we have a party here Dec 15th and then Christmas day at my sisters.
I have 3 big Avon events in the next 10 days.
Nice to catch up with you all HUGS!!!!!!!!

My favorite work week ahead - a SHORT one  Thanksgiving this week - 4 day weekend. Groceries are purchased. It will be a traditional turkey dinner after all.
Though I did stumble upon something on the weekend called The Abs Diet. Once again the concept of specific power foods like almonds, oatmeal, green vegetables, etc. It's a way of eating more than a specific diet - something I can deal with. Back to the protein smoothies in the morning - I've been skipping breakfast or eating a bad one on the run lately. Cherry Vanilla smoothie this morning. Orange Dreamsicle tomorrow. :T
Shad - thanks for the update on Mel. Poor woman. Both eyes. Oh my. Sounds like you are going to be a rambling and roving woman in the days ahead. Safe travels and the end of the year (as well as the end of your stint on the project) is soon ahead. Just keep hoping it goes fast. I guess your work environment is indeed much more multicultural than ours.
Thanks for the info Madcat - it is the organizational and arranging techniques that the boss wants the other person exposed to. I will just have to keep looking. Call your mom to check on the cats????? Did you lend your cats out or did Carla sneak hers off to your mother's?
Gotta run. I'm supposed to leave the house in 35 minutes to get to work early. Like THAT'S gonna happen
11-19-2007, 01:55 PM
You are getting to be an early bird. I want the dreamsicle smoothie recipe, please. Sounds good.
Mel--Hugs to you. Feel better soon.
I'm so happy things went well with your in laws. You deserve to put your feet up for awhile.
Have you thought of wearing a pedometer? You'd be suprised at the amount of steps, miles you get in during one day.
I threw my scale away this past week. It had bit the dust. I weighed in this morning on the scale at work and I'm down another pound. 179.4.
11-19-2007, 04:58 PM
Rennie - regarding the pedometer. Get one. It's cheap - like less than 10 bucks at Walfart. I think you'd be surprised that you aren't walking nearly as much as you think you are. I say this from experience - mine and other people's. Many a time we walked the zoo for 4 or 5 hours and thought for sure we'd covered a bunch of miles but were disappointed it was nowhere near what we thought. And the nice thing about the pedometer is that sometimes you challenge yourself just to do a bit more which is always a good thing.
Unless you have a job walking the plant like Ceejay well then ... job done. :D
:congrats: on being another pound down Ceejay.
The cherry vanilla smoothie was tasty but I put too much ice in so it was more of a slushie/ice cream headache thing. I did one scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 cup LF vanilla yogurt, 1 scoop ground flax seeds, 1 cup room temp water (or you could use LF milk) 1 cup ice cubes and 1/2 cup frozen pitted dark, sweet cherries.
Because I am trying to cut back with my food, of course I am ravenous today.
I did get a packet of the orange dreamsicle protein powder to try but otherwise to do the dreamsicle I'd do 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 container Yoplait LF Orange Dreamsicle Yogurt, flaxseed, water and ice as above. You can also add 1 tablespoon of frozen orange juice concentrate for extra orange flavor. These make 2 servings, I'm glad I have DH to push the rest off on. Haven't quite figured out how to make just one, 8 oz serving yet.
11-20-2007, 09:09 AM
Just checking in. It's getting pretty quiet around here - everyone must have gone out of town
I'm just trying to get through the next 2 days to get to the long weekend. As much as I hate to think about it, Christmas will be upon us snap, crackle, pop. I used to love Christmas. Now it seems like just another intrusion. And admittedly, it's hard to feel in the spririt listening to music when the leaves are all colored and gorgeous and it's 70 degrees out. Feels more like the end of September.
Off to work now. Have a good day.

A POST FROM SHAD AND MOM:
Well it is still morning and a bloody long morning it has been too. Up at 3.00 this morning to catch the cab to the airport and then some coffee in the club lounge and some muesli and then onto the plane. Put my stuff up in the rack fell into the seat and slept through the entire journey. Only woke up when the hostie announced it was time to fasten seat belts. I have a suitcase packed for Karratha and one for Brisbane and I was going to leave the Brisbane one in the luggage lockers only to find they are not where I thought they would be so I ended up bringing both. Loads of stuff to carry as well, began to resemble a pack mule. Got to Karratha - its nice and warm up here and a swarm of flies attacked. It's like everyone has this affliction - sporadic waving of the arms to chase away the little blighters. It's apparently called the great Australian salute. They are really bad.
Other than that not a lot else to report. Can't get in to read anything - you are still pornographic. I'll be back when and where I can.
Thanks Mel and Jen
MOM: Mom is taking antibiotics this week. The eyes look much better to me. They feel better to her. S Maybe she will be back next week. Mom went food shopping last Tuesday and it wasn't a good idea. One eye got worse in the wind even with wraparound style glasses on. So no more going out just this week. It's almost over now.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving from all of us to all of you.
Mel & Jen

Jen and Mel
Jen thanks for the update on Mel. And for taking care of her.
I didn't think that we would even have the color of fall but it has been gorgous here also. It seems every tree in town has color. I'm about to be a scrouge at Christmas time and hide from it all. Thanks for the smoothie recipe.
There was something I was going to mention but it's slipped my mind.
I'm getting excited. My sister is almost here. She called a few minutes ago from Jonesboro, AR., to ask for more specific directions.
I have litterally enjoyed my day off today. I'll have 160 hours (4 weeks)to play with next year and I'm going to use them.
I've contacted sautech about taking internet classes in 2008 and yes they have them. I'll probably schedule one for February. The first one starts January 1, and I'm just not that excited about starting at that time. I'll be taking a 24 hour class to get all my hours in at one time. I may have to have 12 hours worth of meetings and 12 hours worth of class room hours. I'll double check.
If your are planning a trip out of town, be careful.
11-21-2007, 11:56 AM
I know I have not posted as much as I wanted to, but with work, Holidays and maybe a new guy in my life, time just passes by. I'm still working out in the morning though. I realized if it wasn't for my morning workouts, I would be soo much more stressed than I am.
Wishing those who celebrate Thanksgiving a Happy Thanksgiving.
I'm thankful for all the friendships I have met on this site. Thank you Shad for inviting me to meet all your friends.

:turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :happ3: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey:
To my sisters to the south: Have an excellent and safe holiday!! Think kind thoughts of those of us who are working diligently away.
11-22-2007, 07:52 AM
Yep, it is me. I'm sitting in the Qantas Club lounge with a vodka and tonic and waiting patiently for my long flight to Brisbane. I should get in at 6.00am Friday morning.
Karratha was hot humid and laden with flies. I have never seen anything so bad. It was absolutely horrid. The company dished out hard hats with flyscreen around them to try to help those who were unfortunate enough to work outside. I was nearly beserk with the things. I hate them on my face, I hate them anywhere actually but it is no fun to have your arms full of paperwork and the flies attacking your face and trying to get up your nose, in your ears and eyes and the minute you opened your mouth they wanted in there too. I really can't stress how bad it was.
11-22-2007, 08:16 AM
Darn, pushed the wrong button.
Hope Ruth is having a good time with the DD and the daddy Christmas with the skinny legs! Haven't been to check up on her site yet but I will.
Happy - thanks for the e-mail. It's really a huge pain not being able to go to the site at work. Can't think what they think they are playing at. Hope they sort it out soon but...... don't put money on it.
The smoothies in the mornings sound so good. Nothing like getting the daily calcium in early.
Holly - good to hear you are on the mend again and life is looking up. So glad that Christmas was such a success. It's so good when families get on. Had a text message from the Dniece yesterday - she wants to catch up when I get home. I replied with my standard 3 word answer and before I could shut the phone, she's back with more questions. That girl can text at the speed of light. Anyway, seems she has organised a family breakfast for Sunday morning. Good oh.
Mel/ Jen - thanks so much for looking after my ramblings. I will be home for the weekend so will be able to get in from there okay.
Mel I hope you haven't been over doing it again. Time for your rest - off you go and don't answer back please! Else I might have to go pornographic again.
Rennie, congrats on the 2lbs down. You are on a roll. Hope the knee is feeling better now.
Madcat - sometimes folk like your friend are the most inspirational folk around. They have some much to bear and yet find so much to give. Long may she be the way she is today. If she can't get better, here's to not getting any worse.
Ceejay - sounds like you are going to have a wild time with the family. It's nice to hear. I hope you do decide on the degree. It will do wonderous things for your ego.
Okay, so what else is new? Not a lot. Can't think what might be fun. The accountant rang to say that she has sent my return to the house and I should be getting something like $4000 back this year. Yippee, some more to the travel fund! I've been emailing Chris in Japan who is feeling fine if somewhat cool and if I finish here in good time and don't have to go someplace else immediately, I am going up there we are going to pack her stuff in early February. I don't think the agent was impressed with the parts of his anatomy that I was about to lop! I haven't heard from him since. I've had an argument with the super ego on the Karratha plant and apparently I am deliberately obtuse - nice words - about what he thinks I should do with the training. Unfortunately his brand of charm doesn't do much for me, and I watch with amazement as people succumb to his bullying - there really isn't much else to say about it. All I can say is that the company is in the state it is in because there are too many around like that one. He wants to change all the training material around - could it be done he asks me. No says I. No what he said, no thank you said I (deliberately obtuse - who me!!). No it can't or no you won't, he asks.
My answer is quite simple. We created the documentation as per specification from the BPT team working on the project. The doco has been passed by the project and signed off by the business - why should I want to change it. End of story!!!
My boss rang me to congratulate me on being the one female who stood up to MH. Not hard I said, I'm allergic to egos. I was also congratulated by the business project owner - not that he stands up to the buzzard either.
Okay - to all my American friends - have a wonderful Thanksgiving if I don't get back before the actual day - since I don't know when it actually is. Don't eat too much, or drink too much or do anything silly. We need you back here on deck first thing in the morning - OKAY???
11-22-2007, 08:21 AM
Not only were the flies bad, they simply didn't recognise the insect repellent I poured over myself every morning - eau de Karratha. They thought it was some sort of novelty stuff.
They caused an accident today - I was carrying the above mentioned load of paper work in plastic envelope type files and I had a face full of them. I swiped at them with the envelopes and one caught me on the upper lip and split it. I just made inside the door before dropping the envelopes and mopping up the blood before it dripped all over my tee shirt. Just call me Angelina Jolie - we have the same size upper lip!!!
11-22-2007, 08:32 AM
Happy Thanksgiving to the SHE'S south of the border.
Hello Shad. You should soon be home and scratching Sunday behind the ears.
11-22-2007, 01:46 PM
:happ3: to those of us in the states. (It is / was Thursday Shad - you pretty much missed it  ). It's a chilly one here - was 70 degrees yesterday, got some big time storms yesterday evening which brought in a cold front and it will only be a chilly high of 49 today. Brrr. But at least we don't have snow like my family up north. Debating if I want to cook the turkey on the grill or just pop it in the oven inside. I was watching the Biggest Loser show this week and one of the trivia pop ups they did was that a large scoop of canned cranberry sauce had the equivalent sugar of 8 donuts :yikes: Not that I eat a large scoop but I do like the stuff. I will have to go an do a measure of a right sized portion just to see the numbers. We only get fresh cranberries this time of year and I'm the only one who eats them so I don't think I want to fuss with making fresh relish just for me. We had a pot luck Thanksgiving celebration lunch at work last Friday where the company supplied the ham and turkey and everyone else brought a dish from home. One girl made this fabulous pineapple casserole that everyone loved. She gave me the recipe and I'm going to make a small dish of it today. I'm not a big pineapple person but fruit based dishes seem to go so well with poultry. I'm also making my mom's recipe for home made dressing/stuffing. I love her recipe - again something I only eat once or twice a year. Nothing too terrible on the food side - I have an appointment with my general doctor next Thursday and I have gained some weight since I last saw her so I'm going to get the big :nono: So I'm trying to be good. Looking forward to 4 days off to - well 3 and a half now as I've twiddled the morning away. I can't decide if I want to face the horrid crowds and get my Christmas shopping done early, or put up the Christmas decorations (best chance to get them done early enough to make it worthwhile if I do it this weekend). Then again I have been promising myself that I will clean out boxes in the garage this weekend too. So many things to chose from
Rennie - seems like you've found a reasonable compromise to work with the knee. I found as we hit the colder weather, the joints seem to complain a bit more so you have to jump on the good days and scale back if need be. The important thing is that you are doing something daily as you say.
Hi Holly, what are you up to? I get it now - you have Christmas so early because the in-laws are gone when it really comes around on the calendar.
Shad - OMG - those flies. Ugh. Just like out of a horror movie. So sorry you got a big lip. Take care of that so it doesn't get nasty. Poor thing  I'm glad you stood up to the big guy - wished I was a fly on the wall to observe so I could fall down laughing at someone FINALLY giving him a come uppance  Enjoy your time at home. That was nice of the niece to put together a little gathering. Are you going to be home for the holidays for a bit? That's nice of you to go an help Chris out. Will it be easier to see her in NZ or no diff as when she was in Japan? A flight is a flight is a flight?
Madcat and Carla - kind thoughts to you who are slaving away at work the next 2 days. We will do some work too - just to be supportive. Carla are you out hiking in the snows? Madcat - although you don't want those circumstances to happen to anyone you care about, what a great inspiration your friend is - not just to you but also when I hear about someone like that I also feel it's time to put the whiney stick down and put on my big girl pants. Hope you Canadians are all doing well. Is Ruth down here again or is she off in the wilds again? I know she's travelling somewhere.
Patty - thanks for stopping by. What's this trying to slip by - a new guy? How exciting!
Ceejay - hope you enjoy your visit with your sister. Gosh - hope she made it through the storms ok - they were pretty nasty yesterday.
Mel and Jen - happy Thanksgiving to you. Stay warm and DON'T ANSWER THE DOOR OR THE PHONE (well unless it's us of course  ) Hope you're on the mend Mel - we sure do miss you.
Well - I have lots of stuff to prep so I'd better get moving. Happy Thanksgiving to some of us and Happy Thursday almost the Weekend to the rest of the chicks!
11-22-2007, 07:02 PM
I made it - flew through the night to Brisbane and got met by the son and then came home. Plenty of work to do here too, but it is physical and not mental or stressfull in any way. I can do this. It's cooler over here and thankfully not too many flies so I can relax somewhat.
Yeah Patty - whats this about a new bloke??? We need to know. Don't let us know about new blokes unless you are prepared to describe and inform. Poor Nae gets the third degree every time she comes in to post.
Glad to hear that you are continuing with the exercise. I'm just starting back on it. Got time now. I'm not working 16 hour days anymore.
Happy - we are getting an American version of the Biggest Loser at the moment. I don't know how current it is. There are three teams, Blue, Red and Black - Jillian Michaels is coaching the Blacks and dear old Bob the Blues. Don't know who the chick with the Reds is but it has consistently lost the weigh ins for the past two weeks. I shall have to watch tonight to see what happens next. Boy there are some big people in there!!! One bloke lost 30lbs in one week and you can't even see where it went!
Well I think I should go and give Sunday that scratch. We are following the leader here. I've got an appointment at the Doc's at 11.00 - well that is when they think it will be! He won't be happy with me. I know the BP is up, I know that I am not as trim as I was although the weight hasn't changed that much. Just redistributed. Aaah well.
So I'll be back later to see whats going on!
11-23-2007, 11:57 AM
Good morning chicks,
Sure is cold here this morning - just a few degrees off of freezing. Glad I was not one of those crazies up at 3:30am waiting in line in front of the stores. I'm sure many of them get in line to buy the stuff and then sell it on e-bay for a tidy profit. No way would I be outside waiting in front of a store at 4am - even WITH my gun  I think it's getting a little ridiculous with the day after Thanksgiving shopping day - I'm sure the store employees don't appreciate it much either.
Had a nice turkey day. Didn't stuff my plate - a bit of this and a bit of that. We ate at 3pm too - I didn't have breakfast and we were still full at supper time so only ate once yesterday and I never did get around to making dessert so those calories weren't wasted. I figure I spent at least 6 hours in the kitchen yesterday between prepping, cooking, eating and for some reason I had a huge load of dishes and pans - took me over an hour to clean up and DH helped! And there were just 2 of us !!! I spoke with my sister on the phone - her family is all sick so they did not attend the family dinner. She said this year she was making some of HER favorites. I had to laugh because I was too. Made my mom's dressing that I love, a green bean casserole that I hardly ever get to have as well as this delicious pineapple dish I had last week at our luncheon at work. The casserole has crushed pineapple, a sugar and flour mixture, cheddar cheese, crushed Ritz crackers (butter bisquits Shad) and some melted butter poured on top then baked in the oven for 30 minutes. It's soooo good :T DH said this is good but the kind of stuff that goes right to your waist. I said yes, it's not diet friendly BUT it's an accompaniment - you don't eat a whopping cup full - just a spoonful to compliment the turkey every few bites or so. Ohhhh he says.
Then last night at 9pm he said - let's go for a walk. It's dark, it's cold. My first instinct was NOW? NOW? :yikes: But then it was like what dah heck, I can do this. We started walking down the street and there was this lady who has a small moose of a dog who was walking down the street. She walks the dog when it's dark and lets the dog sniff and do his business all over the yards. We have found Godzilla sized turds on our lawn that we suspect are from this dog as DH has seen the dog squat and do his business on lawns across the street from us. We walked behind her for a while and when she would stop, we would stop. We were trying to find out where she lived because we can send a letter to the town and they will send her a warning letter reminding her that we have leash laws (although the dog is on a leash) AND you are REQUIRED to pick up any solid waste your pup makes (which she isn't doing). I certainly don't mind anyone walking around the area but I am tired of these lazy people who walk their dogs at night and let them go on other people's property because they are too lazy to pick up after their own animal or clean their own yard. We did by the way find out where the culprit lives - clear across the subdivision. When we got home I was thinking we should make this walk a habit - tho maybe not so late at night.
Still have 3 days ahead of me to get things done. Doing laundry now. Going to have a second coffee and peek at the sale flyers in the papers tho I don't think I want to really go out to the stores. Guess I'll make a list, close my eyes and point at something and that's what I'll do
Shad - the Biggest Loser show you have on is the begginning of the current season's show we have on right now. For once you guys are in sync with us. Lot of drama in that season. Too much for me. I think they have gotten away from the inspirational part of the show and gotten too cheesy. The shows have been 2 hours lately - they tend to go to commercial and then come back and replay the same scenes they showed just before the commercial break as well as blatant product endorsement (isn't that what the commercials were for???). I may skip the next few episodes and just watch the finale to see what people look like. They certainly don't seem to be having as dramatic a weight loss as in prior seasons. Well the boys do, the girls don't. Except for one Korean girl who lost 88 pounds and is tiny now. But she was the most inspirational, driven, focused girl they have EVER had on the show. It was just wrong that she got booted off as a threat but then again, that's why it's not worth watching reality shows. Except for the Amazing Race where the nature of the show is such that you can't manipulate how things go very much. It's skill and luck in that show.
Anyway I have rambled too much and my coffee cup is empty. I'd better go look at that newspaper I made DH go out specifically for and buy before I hear about it :coach:
Have a good weekend ladies...
11-23-2007, 02:58 PM
I agree Rennie - best thing about all those long hours in the kitchen is that for the next few days, at least all we have to do to cook is warm it up!
I hate Christmas shopping. Don't know what to get anyone. I'd rather clean the house and so I will...
11-23-2007, 05:45 PM
Clean house - Christmas shopping! Clean house - Christmas shopping? Don't worry about me, just trying to make up my mind here. Think I will stick to packing the house up and leave both of the others for later. Glad to hear that you had a good Thanksgiving and that you didn't overdue it.
Happy that pineapple recipe sounded like pineapple crumble until you got to the cheese! I'm not a pineapple fan (crikey don't let them up the road a bit hear me say that. I live in pineapple growing territory). So I'll pass on the pineapple and go for the cranberry - which I love with any kind of poultry. Why were the crazies up and shopping at 3.00am? Aaah I guess it is like the January sales here! One thing on the real bargain list and all the others you could have bought elsewhere for around the same price.
Rennie - did you get the family around and did you solve the dilemma with the sleeping arrangements? At least you have the food for the week sorted - that has to be a bonus. Hows the knee.
Went to the doctor yesterday - how are you he said. All puffy I said, need some more fluid tablets. Well that's all you ever come to see me for he said so I knew why you were here. Lets have a look at the puffy.
I explained aeroplanes and the like and that I had had a couple of colds recently and he told me that anyone flying around the world like I did deserved a couple of colds and puffy ankles. Apparently we are only meant to fly when the good lord gives us our wings!!! Actually he isn't that bad and normally he is only trying to get me to do something I don't want to do when he says things like that - and all that aside, he doesn't like to leave the State of Queensland. He is not what one calls a traveller.
I told him that I was willing to bet the BP was up, the weight was up and the ankles were up. Only one of the above was true. The BP is perfect, the weight is static and the ankles are definitely puffy. However, isn't there always a but or however???? I do need to do blood tests for sugar, cholesterol etc. Which I will do when I come back in January but he expects them to be as perfect as usual as well. Jeez when did I ever get so damn good?? He must have had some bad news guys in before me.
I watched part of the biggest loser last night - actually I slept through most of it and then watched the weigh in and elimination - they voted the older guy off the blue team which I thought was fairly silly - but hey, not my decision - he was a bit of a pain in *** type. Anyway he has gone on to lose 88lbs and looks good on it! Just goes to show. They are not losing much at the moment - 2 to 3lb a time. Which is probably quite sensible, just not usual BL style.
Okay, so the plan for the day is to clear, clean and pack some more boxes for the DS2 to take to the shed. Get shot of a lot of junk we don't need. Find the missing tax files I sent to the Accountant and re fax them. The accountant can't find them although the receptionist told me last May they were there, get some more pussycat biscuits for Sundays who is complaining loud and long that I am starving her! and generally do a whirlwind tour of the relatives and friends. So with the coffee finished and the toast eaten, there isn't much more of an excuse not to start is there?
Catch you all later.
11-24-2007, 01:50 PM
Shad - yes, I remember you are not a pineapple fan. First time you visited, DH was all set to show off his mega amazing, isn't it the best thing you EVER tasted, pineapple rings on the grill - and you said politely, no thanks - I don't like pineapple  The only time I would eat pineapple was with cottage cheese and that's because that's how my mom introduced me to it. Like turkey, green peppers, spinach and other assorted foods, I have learned to start eating the things that are healthy options. And since they came out with the sweeter, gold pineapple - I don't mind a bit of it here and there. I always have cranberry sauce so I'm glad you told me. I do prefer the cranberry orange relish they have this time of year. I was horrified to see on the Biggest Loser show that 1 large scoop of the canned stuff (tho I only eat a slice of it) has as much sugar as 8 doughnuts. :yikes: Just when you think you're doing something good, they pull the rug out from under you. And at our age, you have to expect that they will be running tests on this, that and the next thing. Maybe it's because they can't beleive the first round of your tests came out so good that they will do it again just to make sure it's not a fluke
I got a short email from Mel. She is being a good girl and sitting quietly while the body gets back in rhythm again. She hopes to be back here soon and says hello :grouphug:
Well Rennie - you should know that those of us who gnash our teeth and ring our hands at the idea of holiday shopping just HATE to hear you cheerful lot that gleefully announce that you're finished all your Christmas shopping by the end of September :p  There's several reasons I don't shop early - 1) I don't know what to get people, 2) if I do see something before November I forget that I can get this for them for Christmas, 3) If I find something I'm really excited about giving someone - I want to give it to them IMMEDIATELY and not wait 2 to 3 months, 4) If I shop too early I forget where I stashed the stuff/forget I bought it in the first place - and I've done this before. 5) Last but not least I usually can get things at some sort of sale or discount taking advantage of the holiday sales. This year the retailers expect their slowest season in 5 years running so that means we should see some decent sales.
Shad asked - why were the crazies up at 3am? The day after our Thanksgiving holiday is traditionally the start of the Christmas season. And for as long as I can remember, that Friday - now known as Black Friday - is the busiest shopping day of the year. It's known as Black Friday because the shoppers come out in droves and it's the one day each year the retailers can plan on making enough sales that day so they are actually "in the black" for revenues. Many of the retailers here make more than half of their annual revenues during the 4 week period from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Over the years it's become sort of traditional that the stores have huge sales the day after Thanksgiving. In an effort to bring in the customers, some started opening an hour or two earlier. As the years rolled by 8am start became 7am opening the following year, last year it was 6am and this year the stores were opening at 4am. Some places like the electronics stores will offer 10 laptops computers for $399 dollars -first come, first gets. So people will actually line up and literally camp out at the doorstop for more than 24 hours to be the first in line to get these items. In some cases it might be a hot item that a store only has a few of, some people say they can only afford to get their kids this item at the deeply discounted price and I'm sure there are more than a few entreprenural spirits who camp out, get the item at 1/3 of the retail price and immediately sell it on E-bay for a handsome profit. If spending the night in freezing cold on the cement wasn't bad enough, it's when they open the doors with the shoving, pushing crowds of maniacs. One lady got trampled when she got knocked down and people just ran over her in California. Not for me. No one needs anything from me that bad that I'm going to do that. We have January after Christmas sales too Shad but this day after Thanksgiving is sort of special.
I did some cleaning yesterday - not as much as I should have but I did get all the laundry done. Got distracted as usual. It's supposed to be a cold rain tomorrow so I want to plan out my meals today and hit the grocery store while it's still dry. I have lots of vegetables - just need a few meats. I'm thinking I'll work in the garage tomorrow. DH filled 10 bags with leaves and this morning it doesn't look like he even touched anything at all :( - well actually the front yard is looking ok - it's the back yard that's ankle deep.
Better get a move on here. Rennie - hope you know I'm teasin' you. :D
11-24-2007, 06:12 PM
We're a very quiet lot here at the moment aren't we? Just Happy, Rennie and me. Poor Mel, she really is having a hard time at the moment. Wonder what the next Chinese lunar year is - the rooster doesn't seem to have done much good for our little group.
Hapy - thanks for the explanation on the shopping phenonomen (sp????????) Just like our January sales where people get trampled underfoot, shops make revenue as you said and women fight over underwear etc. I feel no inclination to go at all. If the retail stores were prepared to forgo 5 or 10% of their profit over a longer period of time putting out good things instead of some of the cr*p that they sell during their SALES, then they might tempt me into going. Isn't it lucky that neither the medical profession nor the retail outlets rely on me for their profits?
Sunday the cat has been yelling at me to get up for a long time now. Now that I have she is sound asleep on the pillow and hasn't realised I'm not there yet. I went and got her biscuits yesterday and gave her a handful - she gave me a very reproachful look, but apparently I am forgiven as she snuggled up to me last night. Pity I won't be here tonight for her isn't it!!!
I have now packed up all the small stuff from the kitchen, lounge, dining room and spare bedroom. Today we will take it down to the shed. There are still a pile of books to pack from the other bedrooms and the linen cupboard. After that it will be furniture from the DS2's house to go in there. Then we can get started on ripping out the old cupboards, cleaning, painting, lighting etc. etc. etc. Does it ever end.
Shortly we are off to breakfast with the family and then it will be another busy day and I have to mow the lawn at some stage since the rainy season has officially kicked in. You can sit and watch the grass grow. We are not getting a lot of rain. Not enough to break the water restrictions but enough to keep the grass green and the weeds 10 foot tall. Gotta love the tropics.
Pineapple seems to have a strange effect on my family. DS1 is allergic to fresh stuff and I have this funny tingling effect from the canned. I tried the new so called less acidic, sweeter best ever pineapple in the world (remember it comes from up the road) and I started to swell up - so I guess the allergy to whatever enzyme is still there. Juice seems to be okay.
With that I had better shower and get out of here for brekky. Wake up the DS2 who last night complained becuase breakfast was going to be at 9.00am and not earlier. I'll be back as time permits. Have a great Saturday or Sunday - wherever you are.
11-25-2007, 12:37 PM
It certainly is quite empty around here. But I suppose everyone is off being busy. It's a cold and rainy day here. I should probably have gotten myself outside yesterday like I was thinking of doing but the day just drifted off. Now I'll have to go out in the rain to get the groceries.
Nothing much to say. DH made bacon and eggs for breakfast which was a nice surprise. I have a few things to get done today. Thought about decorating for Christmas but I'm just not in the mood. I did put out the Christmas placemats at the table and may put out the runner in the dining room  Little by little ;)
Have a good one...

Good Afternoon Ladies,
I think I have finally recouped from Thanksgiving Dinner and all my company. I had 18 over for dinner and then another 4 dropped by that evening. I also had 5 guest for 4 nights, 2 adults and 3 children. It wore me out. It was alot of fun and yes I would do it over again. It's nice to be with family. I actually weighted this morning and didn't gain a pound. Of course I was so tired from prepareing everything (we'll not everything) I really didn't eat that much.
Going to catch up on things around the house today, get laundry done, maybe go to the grocery store. I didn't make any of the sales, but with three kids in tow, NO Thanks... :)
As for the new bloak... i think that's right. I actually haven't met him. I met him on personals and we've been talking on line and now on the phone. With me having company for several days, & he went to visit his family, it was just better to wait until they leave. We're planning on meeting this tuesday... Monday is my b-day and I already had plans to celebrate with my girlsfriends...
I'm somewhat dreading tomorrow's workout... it's been several days since i have worked out... but got to get back on track.
11-25-2007, 07:06 PM
Sorry I've been missing in action so to speak. Tuesday afternoon my sister and her hubby arrived. We had a nice visit. They left early Thanksgiving morning to drive to his mother's in Searcy, AR, near Little Rock, AR. I drove to Paragould for the family get together. I returned home this afternoon. It was raining and foggy too. UGH.
Christmas shopping is a total chore for me. For one thing the crowds make me chlostraphobic(sp)Then finding that special something is getting harder each year. Gift cards are the best choice in my opinion. I give my both siblings money to buy their Christmas dinner. This way I can include their children and grand children. I may do this for my uncle's family also.
How nice of your dh to make breakfast!
My aunt decorated their house Saturday afternoon and evening while my uncle and I hung the outside lights. My decorations consists of poinsetta's and candles.
Give the cat another snuggle.
You did have a house full of people. Hope you had some help in the kitchen.
Congratulations on having your Christmas shopping done.
11-25-2007, 10:04 PM
Hey you lot are not pornographic anymore. Hey, Hey!!!
Not that I have much time to chat because all **** has broken loose here in the office. Officially I am not going to Karachi any more. Not sure that I didn't blot my copy book but I really don't care anyway.
So I'll toddle off and do some more panicking in another corner and come back later to comment. Stay safe, stay well.
11-25-2007, 10:32 PM
Congratulations on two more pounds lost. That's great. You are an inspiration.
11-26-2007, 09:40 AM
Quick check in here.
Sounds like you stirred up quite the flies nest Shad. Probably just as well since it didn't sound like Karachi was a very pleasant place anyway. If only they would just work with you, right? Hope things get better and you get out soon.
Congrats on the steady weight loss Rennie.
Glad to hear you had a good trip with your families Ceejay and Patty.
The thing about a having a few days off is that you want more of 'em. - just like chocolate  but it don't pay the bills so off to work I go... first thing to do is stare at the computer screen and wonder what the heck it was that I was doing when I logged off last Wednesday :chin: Forgot to leave myself a note on what to pick up working on today. Oh well, guess it will come to me
 to those missing and lurking.
11-26-2007, 09:58 AM
Morning All, It was a great holiday 4 day weekend.....so fun to family that you don't usually have to be around. We had dinner at my cousin Lynny in the Montana woods with deer and birds and wildlife right outside to watch. Great food and drinks and lots of laughs.
I then travelled to my new guys place on friday and had a lazy weekend with him. Things are good but he is probably not the best long term mate for this girl. So we shall see how it all goes from here. I went to a new quilt shop and found a product for my new craft and possilby my business to start. I will keep you posted if it takes off.
There was snow up North so I did a few rounds with my crosscountry skiis. No snow here at all and warmer here.....I really want snow outside my door soon. I spent an early Thanksgiving with Jesse and his girlfriend on the previous weekend and got to see him play hockey again. My oldest went out to the coast and spent it with his grandma so that was great.
Hope all of you are well and looking forward to the upcoming holidays...just keep it simple and enjoy.... not worth the stress for the pursuit of stuff and more stuff.

I'm at work. Last week spoiled me.sigh! All the key punching I did last week was not saved. I've been key punching all morning. I can blame no one but myself. I have pass words on every thing.
It's cold outside and the clouds look a bit like snow.
Weighed in this morning at 177 pounds. Yipee.
11-26-2007, 03:02 PM

11-26-2007, 06:07 PM
Carla - what does that pink statement say????? I'm worried about you. I think you and I should get together to try and stop the rot, both yours and mine. Although I'm hoping my gain is still fluid and not fat. Come back to us and tell us what you are doing.
Patty - Happy Birthday. May you have lots more of them. :balloons: :hat: :encore:  :hb:
Nae - nice to have you pop in. Sounds like life is interesting for you these days.
Ceejay - gotta save that work otherwise you aint going nowhere.
Happy - Back to work with a vengeance hey? :( gotta wonder where we went wrong - should be able to relax and live life the way it should be by now. But we can't and don't.
Mel - great to see you back, now get off the computer and go and bathe and rest those eyes. Enough is enough.
And with that and hoping I haven't missed anyone - I gotta go. I thought we were coming to the cushy bit, but hello, it's worse now than it was before and I can see more big hours coming up. So today is a bit of training, some repair work on a couple of courses, developing a finance course, ensuring the troops have enough to do and kickin' *** with the printer. It's all go around here.
11-27-2007, 09:33 AM
I have 2 minutes to post.
Carla - hey woman - I noticed that tiny pink siggy too. Get yer butt back in here :rollpin: I'm the queen of "ok, let's start this back up again" - and don't you think you can take that away from me. You need to start posting again. I need something to smile about and that's your job ;)
Rennie - I really like your new avatar
Patty - hope you had a nice birthday and survived your post holiday workout :D
Shad - get out yer stick and russle up the troops. Is this the home stretch for you or will you have to go back there after Christmas?
Congrats on a good weigh in Ceejay - look at it this way, you lost your work but are improving your typing skills :comp:
Mel - so glad you are back with us again. I like your avatar too. Will Igor come shovel Ceejay's walk too. I won't need him because there's no snow down here! Won't be either ;) I hope you will be on your best behavior for December because you don't want you to be taking a powder on us again.
I came up with Nowhere in November. Someone else choose December's home.
6 minutes over my limit. Guess I must type R-E-A-L-L-Y slow or I just think slow
Make it a good one today. Put a little oomph in your day. :dancer:
11-27-2007, 09:42 AM
YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS BUT I WAS IN THE LOO LAST NIGHT AND THIS MORNING. THOSE ANTIBIOTICS JUST WON'T GIVE ME A BREAK HERE EVEN THOUGH I STOPPED TAKING THEM RIGHT AWAY. WTF!!! :tantrum: I HAVE BEGUN THE NECESSARY TREATMENTS AND GOING BACK TO BED. OTHER THAN THIS...ALL IS WELL
IT WAS SUNNY WHEN I WOKE UP AND NOW IT'S BLACK AS NIGHT. TOO WARM FOR SNOW SO MUST BE RAIN! :rain: HAPPY TUESDAY :moped:
CEEJAY~ DID YOU GET THOSE WHITE FLUFFY FLAKES???? I WILL SEND IGOR TO SHOVEL YOU OUT OF YOUR HOUSE!!!
HAPPY~ NOW YOU WENT AND SAID IT!!!! IT WILL PROBABLY SNOW A FOOT RIGHT ON TOP OF YOUR HOUSE!!! :yikes: LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO ME...YESTERDAY I WAS BRAGGING ALL OVER TOWN ABOUT HOW GOOD I FELT AND LAST NIGHT WAS SPENT ON THE PORCELAIN GODDESS!!! :faint:
RENNIE~ GOOD TO SEE YOU TOO AND HOPE YOU ARE NOT OVER DOING IT!!
SHAD~ HAS ANYONE GOTTEN A BLOODY NOSE FROM YOU YET? NO? THEN THINGS MUST BE GOING OK FOR THE TIME BEING!! HAVE PATIENCE. YOU ARE ALMOST AT THE FINISH LINE!
 TO ALL THE CHICKS!!
11-27-2007, 11:13 AM
No snow for us.Just rain and lots of it.
I'm with Happy with you needing to be back in with us. I don't have any goals for December. I think I'm burned out. I'm keeping up with the high fiber which is what is working for me right now.
If you are the queen of starting over I'm your princess. I've started so many times it's not funny. From now on it's a life style that I have to continue because of the newest diagnosis at the doc's office.
How are things going with you?
I should have looked on my back up disk. I had it saved there. Something weird is going on with this computer. I'm changing my password just in case someone has figured it out.
Hi to the rest.
11-27-2007, 06:14 PM
We don't have a grovelling smilie Rennie, but you are forgiven anyway!!!!! Sorry, but life is not good at the moment and I am upsetting more than a few folk around here. (I really didn't mean to upset anyone there as well.) It's not doing any good, but I am persistent, I do not like to lose (and that seems to go for weight as well). It really is the corner store/ multi national business mentality around here.
Okay - time to go muster my forces. I will be back to comment. Meantime it is back to 12+ hour days. Wonder what I did to deserve this?
I don't get out of here until the 27th January. Then they can eat my dust. I can't see that the company will get any value out of its 40 odd million dollar investment, but I try. I think age and work ethics are working against me here and it won't matter too much how I work or how hard I work, it will be a wasted effort. Anyway enough negativity, I have a meeting with the whingers and the witches this afternoon. We are going to thrash out some of the problems with the training courses and the doco and then they can take the responsibility if it is not right. Seems that whatever I do to fix things - it is not enough - it is too much or it doesn't flow.
Enough of the whinge. What will be will be.
11-28-2007, 12:01 AM
So it seems that between Shad and I we are managing to work around the clock. I'm butt deep in test cases and other crap I know almost nothing about. Yay us! At this rate I'm putting a vote in for Demented in December.
Can't promise I'll be back soon but I will be back! Oh no, I just realized how late it has gotten and I do have to get sme sleep. Take it easy chickies. I'll be back once the dust clears (or sooner).
11-28-2007, 01:57 AM
Shy ... it would seem that you've been away from the corporate world for quite a while. An 8 hour day is as passee as disco. They never have enough people to do the job - you're just expected to pick up the slack. I'll stop at that lest I get on my soap box.
Sorry to hear that they are running Shad and Madcat ragged... I'm going to go sleep on it - nighty night.
11-28-2007, 05:46 AM
And it's good night from me too! 13 hours is enough for this chick for today. Diplomacy be hanged, a good rollicking made me feel a lot better. I'm going home for some Japanese dinner and a glass of wine - whoops :censored: and some mindless tv before a good sleep and getting up to do it all over again tomorrow.
Go Madcat go!!!
11-28-2007, 09:25 AM
Good morning my wonderfully demented friend - hope you enjoyed your Japanese dinner. I'm sure you leaned towards the more healthy choices. I would have had plum wine and tempura :nono:
Did everyone get the good rest they were hoping for? Lately around 3pm I hit a slump and I wish I could just crawl under my desk for 20 minutes or so. Then when I get to bed, boop - the eyes are wide open and toss this way, toss that way, punch the pillow, flip on my side, flip on my back... seems like I'm awake for 30 minutes or so but in reality I probably fall asleep within 10 minutes. Just seems like a longer time.
I agree with you Rennie - no one needs to work those long hours but they have us captive. Something about having a roof over your head and food in your belly that keeps you on the hamster wheel each day. But I'm rounding the home stretch, God willing... :crossed:
Morning Mel. I'm coming over this weekend to repaper the walls of your loo with pictures of half naked firemen. (Do they still publish Playgirl?) If you're going to spend so much time in there - might as well make it interesting for you
Time to get a move on here. Love to the chicks...
P.S. Tell Ruth Thanksgiving is over and it's time to get her keester back home again
11-28-2007, 10:04 AM
DEEJAY~ WE HAD A LOAD OF RAIN ALSO....BUT WERE YOU SINGING IN IT??? :rain:
RENNIE~ I LIVED WITH IBS FOR MANY YEARS TO THE POINT OF COLITIS.....BUT I GOT A DIVORCE AND CUT BACK ON MY SUGAR:rofl:
AS S FOR SHAD....DON'T FEEL BAD. I HAVE BEEN HER SISTER FOR MANY YEARS NOW AND SHE PASSES ME BY...I THINK SHE TALKS TO ME INSIDE HER HEAD AND FORGETS TO TYPE IT :lol3: :lol3:
SHAD~    I THINK YOU NEED MANY HUGS AND LOTS OF TLC TOO! :encore: HOPE THE WINE AND THE JAPANESE DID IT'S MAGIC!! ALSO GLAD TO HEAR THE PLANS FOR HELPING OUT YOUR FRIEND CHRIS. SENDING GOOD THOUGHTS HER WAY ALSO AND HOPE SHE IS FEELING OK FOR NOW.
MADCAT.....I ALMOST CHOKED JUST NOW ON MY OATMEAL!!  "THE WORLDLY CHICKS BECOME DEMENTED IN DECEMBER" ROFLMYASSOFF!!! I LIKE THIS IDEA AND I AM ESPECIALLY SURE IT WILL APPEAL TO SHAD AND CARLA AND MAYBE EVEN MISS HAPPY! :lol3: :lol3: SENDING YOU MANY    TOO!!
HAPPY~ FIREMEN WALL PAPER!! NOW WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT! I WOULDN'T MIND THE LOO TRIPS 1/2 AS MUCH THEN!! :belly: SENDING YOU MANY    ALSO. I KNOW YOUR TIME IS BEING SPREAD OUT TO THE MAX ALSO. IN MY OWN TINY WORLD HERE IT IS THE SAME STORY. TOO MUCH WORK, NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE AND NO MONEY TO HIRE MORE. CORPORATE AMERICA AND GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS ARE SAVING MONEY BY HIRING SLAVES LIKE US!!!
STAY WELL MY HARDWORKING FRIENDS.
WHERE DO I BEGIN? I HAVE A NEW AND RATHER LARGE CYST INSIDE THE LOWER LID OF MY RIGHT EYE. THIS ONE IS VERY DEEP DOWN...THE SURGICALLY-REMOVED-TYPE. I HAVE HAD T PREVIOUS SURGERIES IN THE PAST FOR "FAMILIES" OF CYSTS. THIS ONE SEEMS TO BE A LONER THANK GOD. THE ONLY THING TO DO IS WAIT AND SEE. I AM ALSO STOPPING THE DROPS WITH THE MOISTURIZING STUFF IN THEM. MY BODY JUST DOESN'T LIKE MOISTURIZERS ANYWHERE EXCEPT MY ARMS AND LEGS. SO I WILL EXPERIMENT AND SEE....BUT I AM ALMOST POSITIVE I AM RIGHT. THESE DROPS MAKE MY SKIN BREAKOUT IF THE TOUCH IT.
THE OTHER BAD NEWS IS THAT RICHIE'S MOM IS IN THE HOSPITAL AND SHE HAS GIVEN NOTICE THAT SHE DOES NOT WANT TO BE RESUCITATED IF THE NEED ARISES. SHE IS NOT DOING WELL WITH THE CONGESTIVE HEART.
I ON THE OTHER HAND FEEL BETTER TODAY AND LOST 1 POUND  SINCE I HAVE GONE BACK ON THE DAILY MEDS I PUT ON A FEW POUNDS TO 185 AGAIN. TODAY WAS 184. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE MEDS ARE KEEPING ME "REGULAR" AND ALSO THE BODY SEEMS TO BE RE-ADJUSTING TO THEM NOW. YES THERE JUST MIGHT BE A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL! :flame:
THIS FOCUS FOR DECEMBER IS TO LOWER THE SUGAR INTAKE BEFORE THAT TOO CAUSES ANY BIGGER PROBLEMS. I AM GETTING LOTS OF WARNING SIGNALS THIS YEAR THAT IT'S TIME TO FACE THE MUSIC. DON'T WANT TO WAIT TILL IT'S TOO LATE AND NEW MEDICINES ARE NEEDED. :faint: I AM DETERMINED TO GO INTO THE NEW YEAR WITH A MORE POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND ALSO WITH PLANS FIRMLY IN PLACE. THERE IS A MIND CHANGE GOING ON INSIDE MY HEAD AND IT'S MUCH EASIER TO PUT MYSELF IN FIRST PLACE NOW. ALL IN ALL 2007 WAS A GOOD YEAR DESPITE THE ROOSTER! SO MISS HAPPY....THAT IS WHAT I HAVE DONE THIS YEAR!!
HAPPY WEDNESDAY EVERYONE :moped:
 TO HAPPY....I SEE YOUR LITTLE EGGY!!
11-28-2007, 11:12 AM
Take those meds. :Bravo:on that one pound lost. Since I've been taking my blood pressure pill I've not had as much fluid retention. I'm also taking myself off of caffiene. I love my Dr Pepper's but makes the heart rate to fast. I have to let them go.
Shad and Madcat
I've been workiing 12 hour days for awhile now but I do get week ends off. This 36 hour week has been an ordeal.
The week end is almost here. Hang in there.(((hugs)))
Like Mel I suffered with IBS and colitis for about a year. The doctor finally diagnosed me with diverticulitis.
It's much better.
Yesterday I made an appointment with the dermatologist. I'm thinking very seriously about making one for the allergy clinic. This allergic rhinitis is getting the best of me.
11-28-2007, 05:51 PM
MORNING MEL- SEE I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN YOU. Now get off the computer and do something about those eyes.
I haven't forgotten Rennie either
ANYONE ELSE FEELING 'LEFT OUT BY SHAD' OUT THERE?
Why don't you lot get on my case or something??? Don't you think I have enough dingbats to look out for around here with out you lot getting at me too? :lol3:
It's cool, overcast and demented here. Demented in December sounds perfectly good to me. Demented from June to January probably fits the bill as well.
Got one son sorted for Christmas (hey Rennie I like the avatars you are using) and now have to try and line up the other son. Easier said than done. They are all over the country this mob. Anyway I need to get my act into gear before all the seats go and I have to fly them Business Class - then the wallet will take a might smack!!! It's cheaper to take an economy class trip to SF than to fly from Brisbane to Perth business class. Can't believe that one.
Oops - troubles just arrived. I'll be back to comment and say hello to all those not yet mentioned OKAY
11-28-2007, 06:22 PM
And now for a bit of juicy scandal and gossip.
Watch out Toronto - the Madcat and Carla are getting together tonight to do a bit of painting (as in painting the town red)
How do I know this - because I have an ear to the ground, and a long nose.
11-28-2007, 06:28 PM
Oooh--Carla and Madcat without miss Ruth.
Shad--Hang in there.

11-28-2007, 09:04 PM
Crikey, and here was I thinking the big windows let in what little light you have during the day in winter
11-28-2007, 11:29 PM
Thank you for all the Birthday Wishes... Of course I had to celebrate, with a big ol piece of cake... and a drink... and dinner.... OH, we'll back on track...Getting up to workout was so hard after being off for 4 days..
Shy - I too enjoy the winter, and I definitely prefer sitting in the house, under a big blanket. It turned cold here last week, I"m sure not as cold as up there though.
Happy - I love your mother's motto... I guess i'm somewhat living by it too..
Rennie & Mel - I too have IBS, I noticed when I'm stressed it seems to hurt more and of course when I eat high fat/greasy foods..
:wave::wave: Hello to everyone else...

NEWS FLASH - Toronto has survived an evening of serious canuck fc chinwagging. All is well with the world, many of its problems sorted, and a blood oath sworn to never divulge the evening's menu. Carla is pleased to confirm that, despite her name, Madcat is neither crazy nor enraged. Early discussions of a pan-Ontario get-together next spring - attention Holly and Ruth! (And, of course, any other worldly chicks in the area at the time...)
Mel, I haven't forgotten you, and have my fingers crossed that the new cyst doesn't require surgery. Such rotten luck you have! Just be careful to take it easy and eat right, or I'll waddle down there and use Shad's cattle prod on you. You have been warned!!!
Shad, what the heck is going on with that project? Why did it all suddenly get so much more complicated? Will they pay you enough overtime so you can zip over to join the Ontari-ari-ario get-together next year??
By the way, the tiny print below my siggie has been there for some time, ever since I realized setting goals had a negative effect on my success rate. It seems eliminating goals does the same thing...
It's very late, and work tomorrow, so that'll have to be it for now. Sorry for the lengthy absence, I've been scouting locations for our move next week and got stuck in the Doldrums. Madcat, however, haŝ made it clear we're not going to spend the month there, so we'll have to keep looking.
I'll finally be home late Friday, and more likely to post then. My hotel (number three in the last week) is very ritzy but has no coffeemaker. I'll find out tomorrow if the free shoe shine really means free shoe disappearance! Also, Dec 1 absolutely must be the end of this reckless :censored: food porn frenzy. The weigh-in Sat morning should be sufficiently sobering... Maybe I need to eat whatever sent poor Mel to her all-night rendez-vous on the loo/one pound weight loss... about 10 times in a row.
Okay, I'm getting silly. So goodnight, sleep tight, etc. to Holly, Happy, Shy, 1day, Rose, Painter, Meadow, Ruth, Ceejay.
11-29-2007, 01:41 AM
Goodnight Carla
Goodnight Madcat
Everyone else appears to be sleeping except
GOOD MORNING SHAD!!!!!!

Morning chicks, no time to post. Having problems with the router and DH needs the connection so he can work.
Have a good one, hopefully back tonight...

11-29-2007, 11:45 AM
...But who's counting?
11-29-2007, 05:54 PM
Did someone say bananas - I live in Queensland which is known for its banana crops. That's why we are called banana benders. Other States are variously known as Cockroaches (NSW) Sand Gropers (WA) and Mexicans (Victoria - it's south of the border!) that might take some working out.
I read an article on IBS sourced from the Australian Doctor newspaper. I'll try to reproduce but may have to leave out some bits.
PARASITE SUSPECT IN IBS
Patients who have been diagnosed with IBS or chronic diarrhoea could in fact be infected with a parasite.
According to experts writing in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, a parasite previously believed to be fairly harmless was a strong suspect behind gastrointestinal disease causing diarrhoea, abdominal pain and cramping. In such cases a course of antiparasitic agents cured the patients.
Further research at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney found that one per cent of stool samples examined were found to be infected with the parasite, and all the infected patients has gastrointestinal symptoms.
While this research is an exciting development, controversy remains over the organism's importance in chronic IBS.
So there you have it.
And here is another little gem from the same Health and Wellbeing booklet we get distributed here at work.
When you get home after a hard day at work, walk barefoot across a carpeted floor. The textured surface stimulates pressure points on the soles of your feet and triggers the release of calming hormones.
Now there's one for our Happy!!!!!!
Mel I could be rude and say SHUT UP ABOUT CHRISTMAS ALREADY but I won't cause you are my friend and you enjoy it. Any joy in the season has gone out of it for me, but I will take the holidays and have fun anyway.
Speaking of Christmas - I don't have any cards written or sent so far this year. I'd better get onto it soon. Few presents to buy and I may just look for them over the weekend. I've hired a car because I need to do a big shop and I want to go visit a couple of places as well and I ain't coming in here to do anything at all. I've already clocked up 56 hours this week. A weekend off won't go astray.
Mel - as far as Madcat and Carla go, I'm not sure I would worry about the menu, I wonder what they said about us????? Just kidding. It's nice to hear of the chicks around the world getting together and forging new friendships and bonds. Long may it last and often may it happen.
Carla - I would love to come over for the Ontario chapter meeting. Alas, it is probably unlikely - unless someone can find me a job over there - I'm still working on it - or I win a lottery, but then that involves taking a ticket and I don't do that often.
Talking of Ruth and Holly - where are they? Did they get buried under a ton of snow or something. I know Ruth was going west to the DD but I haven't seen her around site at all for some time. I hope that things have not gone bad for her DH. Holly must be all Christmassed out because that was the last time we heard from her as well.
Rennie - sometimes I think those picture windows were created by men for women to clean! I did see something on Cable TV about a man who restored a water tower in Britain to live in and he put self cleaning glass in the top windows of the tower. I must find out more about them since I would love to live in a house which consists of a slab floor, walls of glass and a wide overhanging roof. There is one in Mataranka in NZ that I would just adore. However all that glass is daunting.
Right if I have forgotten someone, so be it. Breakfast calls along with some coffee. My weekly treat.
11-29-2007, 06:37 PM
I'll never get caught up! I was away for a week and in major rush mode just before so didn't get in her much to post.
Came home yesterday to snow, ice and freezing weather but was able to put the Focus in the barn. Donnie cleaned and cleared all Kevin's construction crap to one side. Good guy! He even covered the AC for winter.
Today was mainly unpacking, ordering some gifts online and tackling the bag (yes, a bag!) of mail which included magazines and bills. I managed to get one gift wrapped and mailed off to my Secret Santa person who is in Toronto. It should get there in plenty of time for a change. Last year I had a woman in Finland which was a challenge - and $67!!!!
Tomorrow I will start another Christmas wall hanging, pick up one of the elusive Webkidz and crank myself into full Christmas mode. When I was out West, my DD and I did some shopping for the kidlets so I wrapped it out there and left it. I'll save millions on mailing.
Yes, I'm moving into Christmas mode. I love the season. Time to get out the Christmas earrings and sweaters, right?
I know I've missed a bunch of stuff but will try to read - great to see our Melodie back here even if she is a Christmas fruitcake!
AND and Ontario Springtime meet sounds super.
11-29-2007, 07:11 PM
Crikey - yell and she appears!!! Welcome home Ruth
11-29-2007, 10:34 PM
Glad you enjoyed your visit, but coming home to snow and ice doeesn't sound to inviting. Glad your helper got things doen for you. I'm not looking forward to that part of the winter.
Good for your for not working this week end. You need time to unwind and shopping does that for me.
Rennie and Shad
As for me and my story on the IBS problem. Partly due to nerves and partly due to the formation of diverticulum. Luckily I've not been bothered since I've been on my high fiber diet.
Come clean for me please. I've just not been in the mood. However, It should not take long since I did a major clean before my sister's visit last week. I miss her already. I also like the Santa Avatar.
I've done the over the counter meds but they are not strong enough. The allegra d 180's doesn't appear to be doing the job eitiher. I went to Lowe's today and purchased an air purifier. If this doesn't help then it's off to the allergy clinic. The injection my doctor gives me last approximatly one week. I'm going back for another one tomorrow. My aunt doesn't want me to do this but I'm tired of suffering.
11-30-2007, 03:31 AM
Okay - I'm out of here for the weekend. I have hired a car and after I go shopping tomorrow morning, I intend to drive to Margaret River and go sightseeing. Long drive, I may even stay overnight who knows. I'll be back Monday my time
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND.
11-30-2007, 08:41 AM
have a good weekend Shad. I'm off to the doctor's this morning for a routine checkup and some tests. Can't eat anything this morning. I CANNOT FUNCTION WITHOUT MY COFFEE so I'm a bit bleary eyed and crabby. They better take me right on time for my appt too. Yesterday I sat there for an hour and a half until they called me in. They are very bad about keeping on time in the doctor's offices here which fumes me.
Anyway I have nothing to say at the moment that's coherant so I'll catch y'all later...
11-30-2007, 10:21 AM
Bloody body is still on West Coast time and didn't get me up until eight! Very cold for the end of November at 18ºF but I've got lots of wood and kindling for the back room so Hershey and I will be cozy tonight.
Today will be shopping and Christmas planning. I have also declared war on the damned mice who are just snitching the bait from my trap line and then running off giggling! It's time for Warfarin, the A-Bomb of rodent control. I don't mind them in the basement but "Stay outta my cutlery drawer. you little buggers!"
Time to gird my loins and tackle the day!
11-30-2007, 10:26 AM
 GOODBYE SHADDIE...HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!
HAPPY~ HOPE THE VISIT TO THE DRS GOES WELL!
WILL SEE YOU WHEN YOU RETURN!!
CEEJAY~ THE mUCINEX USED TO BE A PRESCRIPTION TILL THE GOVT ALLOWED IOT TO GO OTC LAST YEAR. IT JUST KEEPS THE MUCOUS THINNED OUT SO IT DOESN'T STUFF YOU UP SO BAD. HOPE THE SHOT WORKS!!
RENNIE~DID YOU GET THE BANANAS?? HAPPY CLEANING.
:welcome: HOME MISS RUTH!!! GLAD TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE WITH THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!! I ORDERED ONLINE ALSO. EVERYTHING IS DONE AND I AM READY FOR SANTA'S VISIT :hohoho:
I DIDN'T GO FOOD SHOPPING. JUST NOT FEELING LIKE IT SO I ORDERED DOWN THE STREET. MY FREEZER IS STILL PRETTY FULL SO I JUST NEEDED THE BREAD, MILK, EGGS KIND OF STUFF. A BIT NIPPY OUTSIDE TODAY. I THINK OUR FALL/SPRING-LIKE WEATHER IS OVER NOW. LOL
JEN IS GOING FOOD SHOPPING TODAY THOUGH. THEN WE WILL STOCK UP THE SHELVES NEXT WEEK WHEN I FEEL MORE MYSELF. NOW THE STORM LOOKS TO BE COMING ON SUNDAY AND MORE RAIN THAN SNOW. WISH THEY WOULD MAKE UP THEIR MINDS! OFF TO PEDAL FOR A FEW. :ebike:
HAPPY FRIDAY AND HOPE WE ALL HAVE GREAT WEEKENDS!! :moped:
11-30-2007, 02:32 PM
I hate mice. I sometimes get them after the farmers start harvesting but not this year. Guess I'd better go get some traps just in case.
The doctor's office is why I like living in a small town. At my last obgyn visit I had to wait a couple of hours. He had two deliveries at the same time. Hope things turn out okay. You can have coffee later.
We're suppose to get cold air from Canada next week. I'm simply not ready for this. Online shopping is a good idea. However, the easiest thing for me to do is give money. The purifier has cleaned the air in the house. When I went to bed I was completely clogged. This morning I could breathe. I slept alot better.
I've heard of the peanut butter but not the bacon. I've learned to stick the cheese in the little hole with just a tad hanging out. This way they can't run off with it. They don't like 2% cheese.
Where are you?
My stomach has been fed and I'm back home. Lunch today was on the city. It was a reward for no time down for injuries. We had fish with all the trimmings.
Tomorrow I'm starting the challenge that Oprah has going. I've printed off the contract. My exercise today will consist of yard work. Need to get moving. I can finish cleaning house tonight.
11-30-2007, 03:11 PM
CEEJAY~ I HAVE ONE IN MY BEDROOM AND LOVE IT BUT IT'S JUST AN IONIZER. I SLEEP AND BREATHE BETTER AT NIGHT NOW FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS. GOOD LUCK!
I WENT TO AN EMERGI-MED TO HAVE SOMEONE LOOK AT MY EYES. THE DR SAID THE LEFT LOOKS LIKE IT WON'T NEES SURGERY BUT THE RIGHT EYE IS QUESTIONABLE. THE SURGERY IS FAST BUT I DON'T WANT IT BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND IT CAN BE POSTPONED HE SAID INDEFINITELY. BETTER BELIEVE IT....I WOULDN'T HAVE IT DONE HERE ANYWAY! I WILL GO BACK TO THE HOSPITALS EYE CLINIC FOR THAT. HE GAVE ME NOTHING TO USE AND TOLD ME TO USE BABY SHAMPOO AND RISNE WITH BOILED WATER AND BAKING SODA<---ALL ON THE OUTSIDE OF COURSE. KEEPING PC TIME TO A MINIMUM TOO AND NO READING. HE SAID IT'S EASIER TO CLEAR UP FACIAL ROSACEA WITHOUT ANTIBIOTICS THAT EYES. SO I MUST BE PATIENT.
SEE YA MANANA.
11-30-2007, 08:22 PM
I Will Be Back Monday After The Mall Or Tuesday After Food Shopping. It's Very Inflamed Now Since The Dr Visit And I Have Things I Want To Do This Coming Week With Jen. She Is Leaving On A Christmas Vacation Given To Her And Richie By The Inlaws. So If His Mom Is Well They Will Be Leaving Sometime After The 17th With His Kiddies. For A Few Days I Am Doing Nothing So Jen And I Can Go Shopping Together!!!
Have A Great Weekend Everyone!
11-30-2007, 10:51 PM
We will miss you while you are gone. Take care of those eyes.
I have never been a fan of egg nog. I've had my indulgence with a McRib. They only have them in November here so it's a treat for me. This year it wasn't as good.
12-01-2007, 07:57 AM
Hey! It's December! Are we going DEmented in DEcember or to DElta? We have lots of snow plus a windchill of -26ºC or -14ºF!
I'll start a Demented Thread (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1946955#post1946955) and will be able to change the title later if we decide to change it.
12-01-2007, 02:34 PM
I'm all for the DEmented in DEcember and why not in the DElta.
Surely is quiet in here today.
I'm starting my newest 21 day challenge today but will wait to post it until Miss Ruth has up our new thread.
12-01-2007, 02:44 PM
Ruth set up the new thread - Worldly Chicks Dememented in December - she also had a link in her post to the new thread. See her earlier post above or click here (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=128076)
