I just signed up, at my local Y, for Zumba classes. I've tried all sorts of workouts--Martial Arts (quit 3 belts away from black), weight lifting (quit: too boring), running (did a 5k in 47 minutes but, quit: "my knee hurts or it's too dark out or it's raining or I'll run more tomorrow or etc. etc. etc), yoga (quit: too much noise in my head to relax), and the list could go on, but I'll end there. Then there was an office-sponsored party where I literally dance for 5 hours! Hip hop, Salsa, Old School R&B--they played it all. I was so "high" I would have danced to the Polka without missing a beat. I thought to myself: "self, why the heck haven't you been doing this all along? You don't have to keep searching for the perfect exercise to keep you motivated--you can just dance." So today, on my day off, instead of turning on the TV and sitting on my @ss, I turned on the music and just danced. It was wonderful (just hope I've enough energy for the class tonight :)).

I did actually have questions when I started this. Has anyone here done Zumba (live or DVD)? Is it more dance than traditional aerobic exercise and vice versa?

I've heard about Zumba and my gym offers one of the classes. I'll have check it out some time. I saw a video of it on the internet and it looks like so much fun (not to mention a good workout!).

It sounds like a whole lot of fun, but the only gyms here that have classes are so far from home. If only the Y had Zumba classes!

We tried the Zumba DVD and loved it! It was so much fun! We wrote a brief review here. (http://www.3fatchicks.com/cluck/zumba/) I wish we had zumba classes in my area, I've heard they are even more fun :)
