I thought this would be an interesting thread after reading Trazey's thread on fitting back into her old jeans. I am AMAZED at how clothes fit different people (you can also read that as frustration).

I am 5'9"
I am around 250 pounds.
In general my jeans are size 24 (tall) and a little loose (but not too loose).

It takes me around 20# to move sizes.

I'm 5'8 and 279, and 24s are loose on me LOL

22's are about right and a 2x top

1 pair of 20's fit and are therefore my favourite item of clothing! hehehe

I'm not particular fat in "one place", just thick all over! an equal distribution! EXCEPT NO BIG BOOBS! DAMN!

fun idea for a thread!

Just now fitting in to size 24 (Tall)

It took me 45 lbs. to move down from a tight 26 to a 24.

I started out in a size 20 at 228 pounds. I'm 5'4" 160 pounds and I'm a 10-12 depending on what I'm buying. 10's in dress pants and 12's in jeans.

I'm 5'9", 259 pounds, and comfortably fit into a size 24, as long as they are the right cut. I'm actually fairly slim through the thigh, but thick everywhere else.

So if jeans fit my waist and hips, they hang from my thighs, but if they fit my thighs, I pass out from lack of oxygen.

I can fit into a 2x top loosely, but can actually manage a 1x a lot of the time. Damn me for having no boobs!

I'm 5'4", 226 lbs.
I am currently in a 20-22 pant, but it took me forever to go down a size. My tops are bigger, because...well...I have huge boobs. LOL.

Edited to say...size 20-22 is the right fit for my WAIST, however, they are too baggy in the thigh/butt area. Classic apple shape. :(

I'm 5'9", 240lbs & currently wearing a nice fitting size plus 18 (but that's with a little stretch) or regular 20. I generally take at least 20lbs to change a size. Like a couple others here I hold a lot of my wait in my gut so I find I need to fit for my waist (or what I pretend is a waist) but things tend to be swimming around my hips & thighs. Anyone else find that this body shape means pants don't like to stay up nicely?

This is always fascinating when it comes up (here are some old threads if you're interested - http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/search.php?searchid=1589473).

When I was losing weight, my waist was the last thing to get smaller, it was maddening. My hips were saying one size, my waist was saying another size.

Waist/hip size for me by weight:

200 start weight - sadly did not start measuring at first - tight size 18
180 lbs - 37 inch waist/44 inch hips - loose size 16
155 lbs - 32 inch waist/39 inch hips - loose size 14
140 lbs - 29 inch waist/37 inch hips - size 10
130 lbs - 27 inch waist/36 inch hips - size 8/size 6 (depending on manufacturer, usually a 6)

When I started{214} I was wearing a size 14/16 and an XL top. Now I wear a size 4 and a size medium top. The smallest I've been since I was a fetus ;). I've always wore a size 14, all throughout high school. I gained quite a bit of weight after I had my kids but still wore a 16. I have no hips or butt or boobs for that matter. I lost everything, except my stomach :(.

I started at 245 lbs, 5'4" tall, and a LB size 20 jeans, very tight, and 1X or 18 - 20 tops.

After 40 lb loss, I am a 16 jeans, and a XL in tops (Sears sizes). Hard to say because sizes vary so much. So I guess 10 lbs/size.

I optimistically bought myself some clothes for next summer in size Mediums and Larges for tops, and 10's pants. This was Sears.com's big online sales and the tops were about $1 and bottoms about $2, so I was willing to risk the investment LOL. Looks like if I make it down to MomofThreeTeens weight by next summer, I might be able to wear them!

My clothes that fit range in size from 10 to 18 in pants. It's frustrating. I'm wearing some old 16s (jeans) right now for some dirty house cleaning jobs, and they're falling off of me, but I have other 16s (jeans) that are too tight to wear in public. I am a pear shape, and pants that fit my waist don't even tend to want to come up over my huge butt and hips. So, all of my pants have a gap at the waist. I wear mediums and larges on top, though even there, I have a small that is very loose. Women's clothing sizes are incredibly frustrating, in my experience.

I'm 5'3" tall
Starting at 236: a tight 18, probably could have used a 20 :( Tops were XL or 1X.
Now I'm 188 and a tight 14/comfortable 14, depending on manufacturer (LOVE Denver Hayes clothes by Mark's Work Wearhouse). Tops are usually a large or medium)

It is a bit deceptive as I tried on a pair of size 18 pants this morning and they were very snug (from a young misses store?) I have other size 16 and size 18 pants from the misses section in other stores and they fit very nicely. I even have some size 14 misses that fit. I have size 14/16 misses fitted tops that fit nicely as well but I wear a size L misses top.

So I like to say that I'm a misses size L on top and a misses size 16 on the bottom.

I haven't worn plus size clothes since I weighed 240 :)

I'm 5' 6".

At my highest weight (340), I was in size 32 jeans and 30/32 tops.

At my current weight (313), I wear size 26 bottoms (sometimes 24, depending on cut and stretch!) and 22/24 tops (sometimes 18/20 tops, depending).

I can't wear pants that are too straight because I have chubby thighs and calves. Boot cut or flared legs look best on me right now.I try to stick to skirts that are knee-length or ankle length (nothing short!)

I'm def an apple-shaped girl! I've got a big belly compared to other body parts. I am lucky though in the fact that I do have a definite waist!

Great thread!

I am 5'8"; I started at 278lbs - in size 24/26 3X.

I am currently 194lbs, and wearing mostly 16's, a few 14's. Tops from regular stores, L/XL. I am at a weird in-between size now - between plus size and regular... argh!

At my highest (180 pounds thereabouts) I was in a bursting at the seams Aussie 14 (US 10) I'm 5'6 and definitely a pear...huge thighs and hips :P

At my current weight of 143 pounds I'm an Australian 8-10 (US 4-6) usually smaller on top and larger on the bottom.

On a side note - when in the grips of an eating disorder and weighing 110 pounds I was still a size 8 or sometimes a 6 if I could get them (US 4 or 2)...go figure! I love muscles :)

At 292 I was a 24 on the bottom and at least 2X on top. It varied a lot but that's a pretty good average.

Now at 5'10" and 208, I'm into all 16's and generally a large on top unless something runs weirdly small.

I feel pretty lucky that I tend to gain weight all over and lose all over. I don't have any specific trouble spots or a shape that makes clothes fit strangely.

Women's clothing sizes are incredibly frustrating, in my experience.

I have to agree! One of my goals is to fit into a size 8, and yet at 5'9" and 158 lbs., I can sometimes fit into a size 10 pair of jeans, but definitely comfortably into a 12. I gotta admit that I am a little envious of the women who are shorter than I am, weigh more than I do, and can fit into a size 8 (although at the same time I'm also proud of everyone who loses weight!). If I can't fit into a 10 now, how low do I have to go to fit into a size 8? And I'm starting to get a gap at the waist when I put on a pair of pants. Frustrating, very frustrating.

I am currently 230. A 1x (18/20) is too BIG both top and bottom

I wear 16s in the top....bottom I still wear my 18s because I dont want to spend money....

So I think 10 more pounds....220. All my clothes can be 16s

At the beginning of my journey, I wore a 3x top and 26 jeans. I now wear a 1x top (although, I did buy some regular extra larges this weekend!) and 24 jeans. They are getting very loose in the legs and butt region, but I have that area of my stomach that looks like a giant smile...though, I don't know what the smile is all about! Grrrr. You know, the hanging belly that curves up to big "bumper pads" on the sides?" I sometimes put my hands upon my hips just to try imagine what it will look like when they are gone. And, now that I have a smaller waste, they look real big! My waste is now 40 inches...and my bumpers are 52 inches! Once they are gone, I'll be able to wear my size 22 incentive jeans....or, maybe even my size 20 incentive jeans.:D

As of today I'm 5'6", 282lbs and fitting loosely into a size 24, and snuggly into *some* 22s. I started out my journey around 312lbs and a snug 24/loose 26. As for tops, I generally can squeeze into smaller ones depending on the material and cut, but mostly I fit in 18/20 to 22/24 tops, and I'm all over the map from 1x to 3x. 2xs are more consistent though. Looking at the numbers, it's amazing that I can fit into the clothes I do, but I think it's because of the way I'm built -- I'm definitely "big boned". My hands are not much smaller than my dad's and have been so for quite some time now. I have big wrists, ankles and feet. My shoes and jewelry are fitting looser, but I don't anticipate much loss. Maybe once all is said and done I could squeeze into a size 8 ring and 9.5 shoes, who knows! My weight is also pretty evenly distributed too, and I can tell from my measurements that once this is all gone I'll be the coveted "hourglass" ... which I am looking forward to discovering :)

It is kind of amazing how weight and sizes go..for example..

Iam 5'9,245pds..
Iam in a size 20 jeans, and they are baggy..size 18 fit me pretty good..and is what I usually wear..

I have two pair of 20 jeans and they both fit me baggy,I have to keep them washed, and my size 18s are good, and I have my size 16 and they fit snug, and I keep them as a reminder..

my goal is regular size 14s,even 12s,but one step at a time..right?

I'm currently 233 (not accurate b/c of TOM) 5'5", started out in 20's on bottom and 1X on top. Now I'm taking 18's on bottom and I'm wearing large size shirts from when I was mucccccch younger. This is awesome!

My goal would be a size 4-6, I know I shouldn't let the vanity sizing thing go to my head, but I can't help it!

This was so interesting to read everyone's post...
I started out in size 26 pants( tightly) and size 24 shirts.
Now I can fit into a size 18 pants, and the smallest shirts I have ( 1x) fit kind of loose. I would be happy being a size 14 in pants and a large/xl in shirts. It has been so long I am going to have to wait and see how my body looks in the end.

man, apples pears, I dunno what fruit I am! I'm not round yet, just kinda all over, and I have a nice set of twins myself, and hope I can retain those as I lose weight (fat chance probably shrug: ) Hmmm, I'm 5' 9", 227 lbs, and I wear all elastic stuff so I really don't know what my true size is anymore, definitely an 18 would be a very close guess I'd say. And as far as what it takes to move a size, that too I have no idea. Maybe I'm a mango?

I'm 5'8" and I started at 313 and a snug 26 jeans.
Two weeks ago I switched to my 24 jeans. They are the stretchy kind so after a little while I'm hiking them up all the time. I'm not quite down to the 22's I have yet. Almost though. In tops I'm still wearing at least a 2X. I can't put these DDD's in anything smaller! Of course they are getting small too or at least flatter. I figure at this rate I'll skip Vicoria's Secret and go straight to National Geographic. :^:

Jeans drive me BANANAS!! I presently weigh 270, and am 5'6". Size 22 petite jeans fit me perfectly in the waist and everywhere else, but are just that little bit too short. Regular jeans are OK length-wise, but are too roomy in the waist! What I would ideally need is size 20 regular, but shortened. I'm crap at sewing, so for now I just suffer ill-fitting jeans.

Tops I can be anywhere from a 2X-5X, depending on the store. Sizing drives me batty, too - there just doesn't seem to be any consistency anymore. I always have to grab 3 or 4 different sizes of the same item and try them all on to figure out which one fits best. Aarrgh!!

I am 5'7. I started at 255 size 22. I have lost about 17 pounds and I wear 20 jeans. Some of my capris are 18's but they are stretchy. and I am in between 1x and 2x shirts. I have chubby arms but most of my weight is in my stomach, butt, and thighs. Im not really sure what shape I am. I think that I am a pair. I have to lose about 20 pounds to go down a size.

182lbs.

I wear a size 15/16 Juniors petite pants and a 12-16 in Ladie's petite pants depending on brand. I am in an XL Juniors top and Large ladie's.
I didn't really keep up with how many pounds it took to drop a size, but I started at a tight size 20 petite jeans (no juniors LOL) and a 1X-2X Juniors Top, or XL Ladie's.

Let's see...

I have thick thighs and some serious boobage. Yep! I said boobage!

At my biggest I was in a 4 xl top, with 26-28 pants. My actual bust measurement was a nasty 53 1/2 inches and my shoulders 52 inches... :o Though my ribs were/are quite a bit trimmer so... Yeah. And yes... I buy mine in England. Thank gawd for ebay! My biggest problem is that my tire around my waist started to resemble my bust line... *EEK*

Now I am wearing a 2 xl top (as long as the actual bust is forgiving as that is still 52 inches at the full point) as I have a waist again... Sort of. My pants are ranging from a 20-24 as my thighs are always going to be thick.

And I am not a fruit at all... Not an apple. Not a pear (way too much on top for that)... I am no a mango either (though that made me giggle as I once heard a dirty joke about what men use mangos for )... I am the quintessential hour glass... It is just that right now my mid section has a wider sizing for a faster pour. ;)

Sizes are different in NZ, but I'll share.

Not so different for many of the Canadians. We actually usually end up with dual sizes because half our clothing is in UK sizing which is equal to standard Canadian sizing but the other half is equal to American sizing.

Last year when I got down to 190 I wore a sz 12.

I'm pretty much big all over but if I have to chose a shape I think Im more of apple. I have very broad shoulders but also have hips and thick thighs. I can get a waist pretty easily but my lower gut is the hardest to get rid of.

I am 5'2 and 257 and I can comfortably wear a 22W. I can fit into a 20W but it's not comfortable and it squeezes out too much muffin top. I don't have fat spots, just a very even spread!

I found some jeans I wore the summer before my son was born. I was about 150 then and they are size 11/12 juniors I was a size 9/10 at 140 pounds but also wearing a 34DDD.

I have always been very hourglass shaped also... very small waist, about a 10-11 inch difference from waist to hip. BIG boobs, but small around the ribs. (DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND A 34DDD BRA?????? YOU HAVE TO SHOP AT THE CROSS-DRESSER STORES!!!!)

Currently, I am at 248 and 5'8" and wear size 24 jeans. They are a little baggy in the rear and thighs, and slightly loose in the waist. At my plumpest, I wore a size 26. My shirts are usually XL or 20/22, though sometimes I need a 2X.

I am also quite amazed with how weight sits on people. Back in high school, I weighed about 225 in 9th grade and wore a size 22. By 12th grade I was 205 and had a pair of 14 talls that fit nicely, but I usually wore a 16. It doesn't seem right that 20 lb. made such a big difference then, but now that I've lost 27 lb, I've only dropped one size! I will fit into those 16's again, though. I've saved them all this time.

Actually... Try the Exotic Dancer stores, and specialty bra stores to get "fit" and then write down your makes and models as well as sizing to Ebay shop. I save about 50-350$ a bra that way. *evil grin*

I'm a classic hourglass shape - hips and bust are the same size (within an inch), waist is 10-13 inches smaller (11 at the moment).

When I was 260 I wore a 22-24 jeans and 2x tops. Today, at 197, I'm firmly in a 16 bottom and L top. My jeans always gap at the waist, it's just something I've come to accept as a fact of life... that's why they invented belts, right?

I also have some boobage, my band size has gone from a 42 to a 36, but my cup size has stayed a DD. I'm really hoping the next 40lbs will get that down to a D or maybe even a C, but I'll take what I get. :)

I am 5'5, 222 pounds - I wear a size XL (in some stores) on top. I wear about a size 17 pants which really means a very tight 16 or a somewhat loose 18.

5'5.5 and weigh 161lbs. Now prancing around in size 14 (think that makes it US size 10 - edit: ok according to the chart linked to by nicolen on previous page it makes it a 12) per una clothes (gotta love marks and sparks) :D

got one **** of a tummy on me though... hoping the last 30lbs will at least diminish it... only thing that's gonna shift this beast is the scalpel though I fear

I'm five foot nothing, 251.5 pounds today.

The jeans I'm currently wearing are "BUM plus" brand from walmart... and they are a 20. The other pair I'm wearing are loose-ish and they're a 22.

Tops, I'm in a 2x-3x right now.

I've got the huge boobs and huge belly,...welll...huge everything actually..except my pinkie fingers, they're quite slender ...

Ugghh, writing it down makes it easier to admit...at 5'0" it's really hard to lug 250...realllllly hard.

Jeans are a 24. Tops are usually 26/28, some 22/24 but I like them looser and not so clingy to my body.

5' 9" 236 lbs. I'm wearing size 18... but it's getting loose... haven't had a chance to try on a smaller size lol. My tops are between 16 and 18, depending on the make.

I am 5' 4" and I started out at over 270 (not sure how large I actually was) and a TIGHT 28 jeans, 3X top. I am now at 190 and 18's are too loose, the 16's are for the most part just right, and an XL top.

Geez, I've missed so much with not having time to be on the computer! Very interresting thread, and helps me to realize we all have our issues when it comes to clothing!

I started in a 20W-22W jeans/pants, 2x tops....don't think I owned any tops that were number sized. The twins were resting in 40d's, but that isn't really realistic, as there was only one style in that size that fit (even if it was the ones I liked!) a 40DD is probably more accurate.

Currently I'd say I'm a size 8 in jeans/pants.....most of mine are 8's, though I have one size 10 and two size 6's. Tops are a whole different ballgame! The long sleeve tee I bought at walmart yesterday is a large, all the tops I've ordered recently from QVC are smalls. A lot of mediums thrown in there....geez! I guess that makes me a medium? Bras are now 36C's, but the cups are getting a bit loose on some even though b's are too small. UGH!

I was always very proportionate, no particular fruit shape! Classic hourglass shape with the smaller waist, but the waist hasn't gone down at the speed of the rest of my parts, or I'd probably be more like a size 6.

I'm 4'11. At my heighest of 278 I wore 24 or 26's can't quite remember. Maybe I'm just blocking it. I weigh 223 now and wear 16's in bottoms. 16's are just right. 18's are loose but not too loose. Some 14's but really wouldn't be able to breath. I still don't quite have the tops thing down. When I weighed about 180 I could wear 12 bottoms. When I was about 150 I could wear 8s in skirts and 10s in pants.

I am 5'6" size 9.5W shoe

At my highest weight which was over 315lbs because I did not fit on my scale I was wearing a tight 28 pant and size 26/28 tops

At my current weight I wear a 24 or 26 pant lane bryant sizes
and a 22 or 24 top/ jackets lane bryant sizes

I can wear a 22 jean but they are tight and make my upper stomach roll even bigger than it already is, I have an odd stomach the lower part is smaller that the upper part but several inches when measured....anyone else have a werid stomach shape like this?

I remember when I weighed in at 220lbs I was wearing an 18, 16 could be done but they were tight, I also wore and XL top

When I started, I was wearing size 2xl men's shirts and size 22 jeans. I am 5'4" and I weigh in at 184.5. I'm currently wearing size 18 jeans but they are pretty big on me, I could definitely go down a size but I'm reluctant to. I wear women's xl tops now.
I hope to get down to size 6 jeans and medium in tops.
The smallest I can remember wearing in jeans was a size 12, and that was about 9 years ago.
