Hi all,
I'm 5'10". My goal weight is 170 but if I'm totally honest I would be happy with 200 :) It has taken me 30 pounds to go down a size or 2 sizes depending on the store. I was a 20/2X and now I am an 18/1X. I notice it first in the jeans - most of my shirts are still ok but I have bought new jeans and started to wear some which were previously too tight which is awesome. I have not been working for about 6 months so I have no idea what my dress pants are like but after I graduate college in the spring hopefully they will be way too big!

"It has taken me 30 pounds to go down a size or 2 sizes depending on the store."

Sounds about right. It my first 70 pounds only took me down two pant sizes(although they were tight to start with)...as your closer to your goal, it only takes 10-15 to make a difference :)

and Hi guys =D

I am new to this board, but this post caught my eye,as I am also a tall woman. 5'10" and currently weigh 192. At my heaviest I weighed 220,and was in a very tight size 16(probably should have been wearing an 18!lol) Currently I wear mainly a 14 and in some brands a 12. I think being tall definitely has its advantages,as you can be over 200 lbs and no one would ever guess, and you can gain a few lbs and no one notices. But the one thing that I guess is the negative,is that even though I lost over 25lbs....I basically lost 1 ..about 1 1/2 ..sizes. :( I know short girls who have lost that much and they drop like 5 sizes!!
I have been this tall since I was about 14..and I weighed 140 then, people thought I was too skinny. I weighed around 170-175 and was a size 12 for quite a few years and I think that is my 'sweet spot'. It sounds like a large size, but on us tall girls ,it really doesnt look like it. Even at my 'skinny 140' the smallest size I could wear was a 10. This body just isnt meant to be tiny I guess!

Oh,and for tall girls...the BEST pants and jeans in tall sizes that fit awesome is NY & Co!

I was posting on this thread forever ago, but then I wasn't on here anymore. I'm excited to see that its revived and people are posting on here again! I'm 5'11" and currently sitting right below 180. I wear a size 10-12. I think the 10's are a result of vanity sizing. So really I'm a looser fitting 12. Which a tighter 12 was my size when I was at 186, my high weight.

It's good to have other women who are the same proportions as ones self. For example we likely could never fit into a 1 or 2, while many women on here that are maintainers are right into those types of sizes.

That is so weird.. Im 5'9 and Im currently around 228lbs and I wear a size 16 and its very loose on me... Is that wierd? Im pretty sure that its mainly because my stomach is hanging because of the weight I recently lost.. I hope it will stretch back in...

tallflgirl78- Thank you =D...This last little bit dosen't want to let go though...grrrr xD

Krystalruby- Maybe you have good genetics =D...Mine is slowly snapping back Definitely better then 6 months ago. I heard that after you lose a good amount of weight, you need to give your body a year or two for the loose skin to snap back

"example we likely could never fit into a 1 or 2, while many women on here that are maintainers are right into those types of sizes."

I don't even think models our height could squeeze into a size that small xD What size do you think you'll end up when you hit your goal of 130? Trying to get a general idea. :)

@baker23 Im praying for at least a size 8...:) I was always so big and I was wearing a size 12 in sixth grade... BTW, i am sooo impressed with your weight loss!!!!! how did you do it?

baker23
01-18-2012, 03:32 PM
GAHHH me too...8-10 is my goal size =D...And thank you :)...The first 70 came off pretty quickly. I spent some time working at a ranch as a pastry chef/cook. Was on my feet for 12 hours a day xD so the weight just melted off. After that, just watching portion sizes, and keeping active. Been at this for 3 1/2 years with a 9 month break of maintaining. :) I never counted calories until about 2 months ago when I pretty much stopped being able to lose.

How did you get started on your weightloss? :) You've lost so much too. How long have you been at it for?

WOW. thats so awesome.. Basically it all started when I stopped eating after 6pm. I used to eat so much in the evenings because I would work or be at school during the day, and then after being tired and hungry I just gobbled everything up. Since I grew up in a big family, it was always whoever grabbed what they wanted first, and that is how its almost always been, but now I'm like, oh I can get it tomorrow.. Then I decided that I am just going to start eating less and exercising more.. But the exercising is hard for me because I already do a lot of heavy work, and it never seems to help me lose any weight. :( But then maybe thats why I wear a smaller size, more muscle :D lol jk

baker23- I'm shooting for a universal 8. So in vanity sizes maybe a 6 sometimes ;). When I weighed 155 (like 5 years ago) I wore 8 in most things, but some brands I needed a 10. I once heard that as you get smaller you change sizes with less pounds. I don't know how true that is. I have only been a sometimes 8 to barely still fitting the 12's in my adult life. It seems to me that it takes 10-15 lbs for each size. I figure somewhere around 150 I would be able to wear, 8's across the board? But we will see.

I know my goal weight says 139, but really thats a "the lowest weight I am allowed to try to get too". And I think I would be pretty happy at 150-155. But we will see.

baker23- Oha nd to answer at 139 I bet I would be in a size 6? Hard to know I have never been that small. My older sister though is my height and build similar to me. She is the same weight as me currently and wears the same size. She weight 145 when she got married and wore a 6. That is where my guessimation of a 6 at the lowest goal weight come from :).

Like I said, I am shooting for an 8. I'm calorie counting for the first real attempt ever. I lost 18 lbs (down to 168) over a year ago by just exercising and trying to limit foods that werent whole and healthy. But I have been off and on trying to do that for over a year and have watched the weight rise slowly, and then jump hugely (10 lbs) over the holidays. I was not eating healthy during that duration at all. I was back up to 180, I had promised my self I would never see a 18....anything again (unless it was resulted from pregnancy). So with that realization I decided to try a more controlled course and started calorie counting. I've been doing it about two weeks (had a couple days of badness and not counting) But overall I really like it. I have a fairly high calorie goal and with exercise I already saw 175.0 on the scale this morning. Thus far I am thinking this is the best approach to weightloss for me. It allows you to eat whatever you want, but with daily weighing and

Whew sorry for the long winded tangent. Anyways, you ladies have done amazing and are a great inspiration. :)

Hey everyone! I'm new. Sorry to budge in on your already started group. But I feel like you guys will actually understand what I mean. Hah. I'm 6" and about 174. My goal weight is 149. My mini goal is 160.. I want to lose weight for the summer. Bikini weather. And I want to feel confident. I have no problem starting a diet or an exercise plan, I just never have enough self discipline and support to keep at it. Whenever I tell people I am on a diet or anything, they're like you don't need to diet! You're beautiful. And I'm like thanks, but that's not going to motivate me or push me at all. I need someone to check into, who cares, who I won't fail for. I need that push. I wish you all luck as well in your endeavors and I hope to be able to join your little support group and lose weight with. You guys are an inspiration.

Hey guys! Glad to see this board get revived :) I was posting here right after I started about 6 mos ago and things are still going well! (though I only 'maintained' for about 2 months while I changed jobs and moved cross-country). But I've updated my mini-goals and am back on track!

I would really be happy to fit into a 10 - but an 8 would be amazing (something about the single digits  ). The smallest size I've ever fit into was a 12 and that was vanity sizing I'm pretty sure, it wasn't universal. I've worn a 14 pretty much my whole life except at my high weight I was a 16. (And I still fit into some of my 16 jeans 50 pounds later, after the dryer shrinks them up. Ug!)

I do love being tall - it's a lot harder to tell if you gain 5-10 pounds, and I naturally burn more calories just by existing so I get to eat more. :p ;)

Do any of you guys take measurements? I seldom do but I did a few days ago and am kind of curious to compare to other 'tall people' at different weights. I don't exercise at all, so I suspect I'm on the larger end for my weight.

I've always thought I had large upper arms, but seeing that my upper arms are as big around as my neck kind of freaked me out (it's definitely not muscle).

Here are my measurements:

Weight: 178 lbs
Height: 5'10"

Waist: 36" (34.5" if I suck it in )
Hips: 42.5"
Neck: 13.5"
Thigh: 24"
Calf: 16"
Upper Arm: 13.5"
Bust: 40.5" (not entirely sure I'm measuring this right)

I took measurments when I decided to start the weight loss last June, almost 50lbs ago. I will remeasure when I actually get to 50lbs. lost. Partially for encouragementand as a motivator. Everyone is built differently,so I realize that when I see other's measurements, which can be meaningless for my purposes so I will use measurements to see what I have lost. The number that counts is the one on the scale right now.But I will tell you you are doing great and I would love to get near your numbers though I doubt I would ever have a 13.5 inch neck that is 5" less than when I started, my arms which are muscular would be great at 15". I worry less about the boobs and butt as long as they stay proportional. The waist. now. thats what I want to see go down the most. I would like to and think I can, get to your size which would be the size of my husband. Bravo for you! great job!

Thanks Kake, that means a lot :) I am still just getting comfortable in my own skin (and I know I need to start weight lifting to build up some muscle), but I still think of it as having a 'long way to go!'

And your neck might surprise you! Mine was 15.5" last time I measured, and my weight then was about 210. I've never really thought of myself as having much fat in my neck (it never really looked like it?) so I was surprised I lost even that much. Point being, it might slim down more than you expect!

I'm glad to see this thread revived as well. I found it last fall but just read the postings and wished people were still posting!

The smallest that I will probably ever be is a 10. I was a 10 in HS when I weighed in the upper 130's to upper 140's. A 12 in the 150's and 160's and 14 up to 190.

I've lost just a hair under 52 lbs so far. I wish I took measurements when I started but I was so worried I wouldn't lose weight that I didn't... but a month ago I joined a challenge and they measured me and then this morning measured me again. I have the original measurements and remember what they were from this morning so here goes:

*Neck, wrist, bust and underbust were taken by me, the other measurements at the gym by an exercise physiologist.

Height: 5'11
Weight: 182.2 (at home, first thing in the morning)

Shoulders: 42.5"
Bust: 44" (disclaimer: this seems to fluctuate a little bit- 1/2"-based on what bra I'm wearing when I measure!)
Underbust: 34"
Waist: 32.5"
Hips: 44"
Right Thigh: 24.25"
Calf: 15"
Right Arm: 12.5"
Wrist: 6.5"
Neck: 13.5"

Size 14 and L or XL depending on store's sizing. Casual Corner (kept some of my skinny clothes) size 12's zipping up but way too tight in the chest! Would never, ever wear in public, lol. ;) Just trying to help me visualize how I look right now!

I'm about a size 10-12 right now and I'd love to be a size 6-8. My weight has slowly started creeping up on me (I was 167 a year ago) and now I'm at the highest I've been since getting together with my boyfriend (2 years ago).

So I've really been watching what I eat..when I track, and eat what I want, I was eating 2000+ calories a day!! I'm aiming for under 1400 now, walking lots, and I'm going to go back to the gym soon too. It feels so much better when I have a plan :)

The bane of my existance..always being called the "BIG girl" - my sister, in a moment of brilliance, told me a few days ago that I would always be "big" - since I have big hips and shoulders...ugh...thanks sis...:?:

hi guys, i am 5'9 and 176lbs, though no one would say so.. anyway i am not satisfied the way i look, i would like to be skinnier because even though it is not noticable that i have somne extra weight when i am in clothes, i want to look better for my self and when in bikini, so i just came across this forum thought i had a lot og in common with you girs and decided to join, hope you can help me and hopefully i can help you as well :D

Okay 2 cats. I said I would remeasure after 50lbs. and now after 56lbs and holding (for now)

June 2011 295lbs March 2012 239lbs.

height 5'9.5" height 5'9.75" ?
waist 43- 44" waist 39.75
Bust 47.25" 44.5"
Hips 47 44.5"
Thigh 27.5" thunda thighs 26"
calf 17.5" 16.5 "
neck 17" 15.75"
left arm 17" 15.75"
size 22-24 18
I guess I'll go another 25lbs and do this again. I was both happy and disappointed in some of the measurements though. .
Still the waist, thighs.Ugh! My husband weighs 195 lbs. has a 34.5 or 35" waist and like 21" thighs...I mean, I lose 56lbs and less than 2" on my thighs? The best I can expect is 24" maybe! If I dare to measure them again, maybe after another 50lbs. My husband's built like a Y, longer legs and as hard as a rock, but I get the big Full back thighs in this family. Yeah I know theyre strong but still. This why I avoided the tape measure and focused on the scale instead. It's too easy to get upset about a number due to expectations or as compared to someone else. Even so I was pleased about a couple of the measurements. Like I said before, the main # is on the scale, and if I can lose another 50lbs. I will be ecstatic! For many reasons. How did I gain the1/4 inch in height? What's that about? Oh, I also can get into a half size smaller shoe. Hah!

Hi. I'm 5'10 and it's nice to see weights closer to mine. I've lost close to 20 pounds so far. I still need to drop a couple of bmi points, though. Another 20 will put me in a good spot.

One thing about being tall is people have no idea how much you weigh. Even my MD looks at me and says 'where is it?'.

My biggest problem with being tall (I'm more 5'9" than 5'8" and I don't care what you say, I'm tall too! Just the short of the tall girls) is work out clothes, they always seem to shrink and they fit at the store but then they are too short after the first use! Drives me crazy. I feel like I carry my weight well too but hit that point where I can't hide it. I'm starting to love my height in my 30s and now wear heals no matter how tall I am over my boyfriend.

I completely agree!!!
Even though i rarely tell anyone my weight, when i do, people's faces just go blank. Maybe because the 200 lb mark is just a big number and people automatically think that if you're 200+ you must be a mountain... (even though sometimes I certainly feel like one) :(

I rarely told my weight, but when I did I got the same reply as you did. "you don't look it". It's funny because while height helps to hide the lbs. I had the # 300 in my head always. I mean you have to think to use a step ladder with where the weight limit is 250lbs. You just don't get on it, and then yeah you will feel like 545lbs. and geta little down about it.

Ah it's good to find other tall people on here!

I'm 5ft 9 and I've always loved being tall. I was always the tallest at school cos I got to 5ft 9 in my early teens (I remember a very short Chinese boy joining our class and his dad being so over excited about how tall I was and insisting and taking a photo of us standing together )... and then I was so gutted when I just stopped growing and people began to overtake me. I was always hoping I'd get to 6ft but now I'm 21 I am pretty certain this is it!

I completely relate to this thread. People always say to ignore the scale and look at how your clothes fit. When I finally notice a difference in how my clothes fit, that it 20 pounds later. I've been a size 14/16 most of my life and have always been told I am a nice size. I'm ready to be in my healthy weight range now which might land me more at a 10/12. I'm nervous about what that may look like but really excited to get on with it.
