Default Friday's TGIF Chat

It's FRIDAY!

It's going to be a soggy day, but who cares! The girls have their Halloween parade and parties today in school, so I'll be heading over their house to help get them ready, and spending the morning at school helping out. I have to remember to bring my camera.
We had a nice playdate yesterday, but our lunch wasn't so great. Johanna and I had some errands to run and ended up having lunch in the cafeteria of a grocery store. I had been looking forward to a nice soup, but they were fresh out so I had a salad from the salad bar instead, and it just didn't do the trick. It left me hungry and craving something the rest of the afternoon. I managed to stay OP, but just barely!

hi cottage! Let's do the happy Friday dance!
Have a great time at the parties. Ours aren't until next week. They moved them to the day after Halloween this year. Makes sense though, I'm sure they never get anything done that day anyway. I've been really hungry all week. I think I just want to put my winter fat on and get ready to hibernate.
Tonight is the town Halloween party and parade, so today I must finish the headless Marie Antoinette costume and find something for DS to wear. Hope it stops raining long enough for the parade!
Yesterday, we broke down and turned on the heat for a while. Hated to do it, I always feel like a dried out prune at first.
DD is supposed to go to Hershey Park tomorrow with the Girl Scouts. I wonder if they'll get rained out?
Tomorrow is weigh-in, got my fingers crossed that I'll make my October goal.
Well, I'm off to another fun-filled day of work, laundry, errands...

Not soggy here today, Cottage. The sunrise looks clear and definitely IS cold. The birdbath is a skating rink this morning. It's time to put out the bird feeders.

Donna comes to clean this morning and sure is needed! Just before I left on my trip, I brought in the plants from the front porch. Hershey managed to tip one and I have earth on the living room rug! When Donna is here this morning, I'm going to get her to help me unload my chest freezer which seems to be dying. There's no way I can get a repair man out here until next week so my frozen stuff will be farmed out to the Fair Hall Freezer and maybe to friend Claire's place. Oh well, it needed defrosting anyhow. If I need to get a new one, it'll definitely be an upright, not a chest type.

Still haven't had breakfast so I'm outta here! How does your TGIF look?

Hi Schmoodle! I've never been to Hershey, PA, just to the Hershey Plant in Smiths Falls which is a half hour away. I just may take a trip there for Hallowe'en goodies. I hope your DD's trip doesn't get rained out.

Mornin' everyone! TGIF! <--Friday dancing veggie!

Oh, Cottage, I know just how that is, when you are looking forward to something and end up with something that doesn't even come close. I totally agree with Geneen Roth when she says that you should try to pay attention to what your body is wanting for food, especially in terms of hot vs. cold, type of texture, and type of tastes. If you're craving something warm and comforting like soup and end up with something cold, crunchy, and light like salad, no wonder you're not fulfilled! : But good for you for staying OP anyway! Have fun this morning!

Hey, Schmoodle...your costume sounds fantastic! Maybe DS can go as cake? I think it's awesome that your community does a parade and party...what fun! Having the parade the day after Halloween at school makes TONS of sense. As you said, nothing happens that day anyway with kids all hopped up on sugar and tired from the night before. Are you guys close to Hershey? (you can PM me with the answer if you want...) We're only a couple hours away from there...it would be lovely to meet up sometime!

Ruthie, I hear you. It's rawther cold here too! I bet you have so much fun watching the birds in the winter! Do they intrigue Hersh? Didn't you go to Hershey to pick Hersh up or did she just come from there originally? I hear you on the freezer...we have an upright and I've never regretted the extra expense over a chest one. I hope you can get it fixed soon and am glad you'll have help unloading it. That can be backbreaking work, especially for someone as tiny as you! Be careful and don't fall in!

Me:
Well, DH has been down in Orlanda all week at a conference. I'm flying down to be with him right after work. I'm going to race home, feed the rabbits, and fly through the pharmacy (forgot to get a prescription yesterday...arrgh!) and fly to the airport. Thankfully we have a teeny-tiny airport and so I can probably get away with getting there just over an hour before the flight, thank God! In spite of leaving just after work, I won't get there until really late tonight...sometime around midnight. We'll go to Epcot tomorrow during the day and go dancing at Pleasure Island at night. I'm excited!

Had a wonderful time hanging out with a friend of mine and her husband last night. They made this amazing black bean soup that was SO easy--just put two cans of drained black beans in a blender along with one jar of salsa and a tsp of cumin and blend until smooth. Then heat on the stove until warm. Dollop with light sour cream or Greek yogurt and enjoy! It was really good!

Have a fantastic day, Beachies!

Yippee! Just unplugged the freezer, plugged it in again and it works! One less big niggle to deal with today.

TGIF!!!!

Cottage Gosh do I miss the parties with the kids! I live through the neices & nephew now but it just isn't the same!

Schmoodle I am with you on turning on the heat. I broke my heart to have to do it. I have to keep an eye on the thermostat cause everyone insists on turning the darn thing up!

Ruth Glad your freezer is back in order, what a pain that would have been!

Laurie Have a great trip, sounds like fun! Do you have extra room in your suitcase, I don't take up much space anymore! LOL

Me I need to do some serious grocery shopping, not a thing to bring today for lunch. I have a feeling that much like cottage I am going to be disappointed at lunch today. I was running late and ran into the store and grabbed the first thing I saw which was south beach chicken ceaser wraps. I really should have gotten a can of soup. Oh well at least it is legal, since we are having dinner at the in-laws tonight and she is fixing (warning food porn) fried chicken, mac and cheese, fried potatoes, oh and green beans!

Alright time to start my day. Everyone enjoy!

Happy Friday Chickies!

Cottage - I've been doing a lot of soup lately, there's just something about Fall being soup seaason, even in Florida.

Schmoodle - I wish I had a reason to dress up for Halloween. Your coustume sounds great.

Ruth - That's great news about the freezer. I normally use mine to stash the offplan foods I buy for DSS, but it is a lifesaver when I find a great deal.

Beachgal - Enjoy Orlando. I've been in FL for almost 8 years and never been. Eventually we'll go.

Pacer - I'm going to live vicariously thru your dinner. Fried potatoes, yum.

Gonnabe - Glad the rain is onver your way, we've had enough of it in Pensacola the last few weeks.

Kier - Jealous doesn't even begin to cover what I'm feeling about your trip. have fun and be safe.

phxsunflower - We just turned off the a/c yesterday and are ready for screen doors. Finally.

Me - this weekend I want to get the yard finished for fall, but I may go shopping instead. I need winter clothes for my Thanksgiving visit to WV.

Hi girls! Just posting real quick to check in on everyone. Today is Day 2 of my TOM (sorry Tom.) I am miserable. Fortunately I don't have to be anywhere until 2. I have the weekend off but it's a weekend of running, as they typically are.

Today I have to pick up my prescription, get my hair and eyebrows done, have dinner with Abdul when he comes into town, and then karaoke tonight. Tomorrow I'm sure I'll spend time with Abdul and my parents, probably head to church, and then the Pirate Party that night to shiver me timbers off (that still cracks me up, I'm awful) outside in my costume. Then Sunday, football out at Show Me's, which is becoming a tradition.

I'm just hoping my bloating and errrr.... frequent trips to the bathroom subside by tonight. I hate Day 2! You girls have a good day. I'm going to wallow in my sweats until time to get dressed and ready to get my hair cut.

What does a bloated whale say? Mooooooo.

Have a good one!

I'm fixing a cod chowder for dinner tonight from the Quick & Easy cookbook. It sounds good. I'm in the mood for soup. I also need to restock for my lunches but I don't like to bring seafood to work because of the smell. I'll have to plan some other soups for next week. Maybe the Brocolli Cheese.

I have one more boy from our den to track down and get his popcorn form tonight and then I'll have time to sell a little with Brian before we have to turn everything in. They were supposed to be due at 8pm but now they moved it to 7 which means we can't sell until dark. I've tried to tell the Cub Master that the pack will mean the pack earns less.

Oh, well, back to work. It's busy today.

Not a good day today. We just got a call from MIL this afternoon at lunch. DH's little stepbrother (Nate) was out with friends Tuesday and was walking on the train tracks over a bridge (not smart) after the four wheeler they were out riding broke down. They were on their way back to their vehicles to call for help. Well, a train came around a bend and killed one of his friends. (An 18 year old girl - her boyfriend tried to save her, but ended up having to dive into the river below to retrieve her body). Too sad. Nate is feeling very alone as people don't want to hang out with him and his other friends as 4 people in the "group" have died in the past year. (The young lady above, 2 to a car accident last Christmas, and one was stabbed a month before that.) I think that a lot of parents are very leery of his group right now. I'm very worried about him and his friends and how they're handling all of this. I feel so bad for them and her family as well. The sad thing is, they're really good kids. All athletes making good grades; no drinking, no partying, no drugs. They just ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In other bad news, I'm back up to 211. I'm not sure how it happened, but I really need to get my rear in gear. I can't go to P1 because of the meds, but I think I'll start D1 of P2 on Monday. Hope you're having a great day, ladies. I'm not.

~Kim

Oh Kim I'm so sorry to hear the news. That's just awful. It's horrible that things like that happen. I'll pray for you and DH's family. Again, I'm terribly sorry.
