General chatter - Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

10-25-2007, 02:15 PM
If so, what do you have? And do you, by any chance, have pictures?

Me, I have my eyebrow, lip, tongue and (of course) a hole in each ear - sometimes I wear them, sometimes I don't. I'm going to get my industrial pierced soon, though I'm not sure whether I want it horizontal or vertical (for those who aren't familiar, industrial is the bar you see some people having from one part of their ear to the other).

Tattoo wise, I currently have only one: a 4 leaf clover on my right hip so that anyone who sees below that point is lucky. I'll post a pic of it later, when I have access to my personal storage accounts.

I want to get more tattoos, but I'm not sure what to get. I obviously don't want to get anything that I may regret later and if I do get another, I want it to mean something deep and personal to me. I want one on one of my arms, though, so I can display it in plain view.

I have just one piercing in both of my ear lobes. I did try to get my navel pierced and my cartilage of my left ear pierced but for some reason I had multiple problems with those two piercings despite me following all the instructions and they were constantly infected and I had to take the piercings out by my doctor's advice since it got bad enough to where I had to go to my doctor. But I do have a tattoo of a butterfly on one of my toes. My tattoo is a reminder of me as a person, I got it while I was going through some hard times and butterflies have to go through 4 stages before they are even a butterfly and that's how I see myself, always growing and evolving. So it means a lot to me.

LOL I like your statement about your clover..lucky..:-)

Hehe, some people just don't heal well with piercings. One of my friends got his eyebrow pierced, and despite taking proper care of it (and even shooting rubbing alcohol with a syringe through the infected hole to make it better!), he still had to take it out because it made the entire side of his head hurt. He also tried getting his labret done and the same thing happened. We've come to the conclusion that piercings just hate him.

I'm considering getting my navel pierced once I lose all my weight and then get nice abs. It will inspire me to work hard at maintaining my abs because I'll want to show it off.

A butterfly on one of your toes? wow, what a cute, small tattoo! I've heard that feet are the most painful place to get 'em done, because of all the nerves and bones.

I have only 4 piercings, and they're all in my ears. Awhile ago, had my lip and that part right above my chin (I know it's called something, just can't think of it right now) pierced. I had to keep taking them out because of my job, so they eventually closed up :(. I so want to get my upper lip or lower lip pierced again, but I need to find a way around it not being so inappropriate (jobwise, again).

I have one tattoo....for now. It's an aries tribal on my ankle. I got that one sort of spur-of-the-moment. Not much thought put into it at all.
As you can see, it's nothing really extroadinary..........But I had to get that first one out of the way.

The next ones I'm getting are my last name (tribute to my dad) on my lower back and one on my upper back, which will be a something with a dia de los muertos theme (tribute to my culture). I'm really just waiting to lose weight to get those done.

I have three tats. A silly looking frog on my right ankel. A nice tribal design that has teal in purple and black on my lower back and then two hawiian style turtles flank the tribal design. I tried the belly piercing..but didn't like it with my belly fat LOL

I Have 3 Tatoos 1 On My Chest, 1 On My Back And 1 On My Leg - Thinking Of Getting Another. Piercings I Have 3 In 1 Ear & 2 In The Other Ear - I Once Had My Belly Button Done (when I Was A Smaller Size Of Course) But It Got Infected So That Was A No Go.

I have 9 holes in my ears. 5 in my left ear and 4 in my right. (I was a teenager in the 80's . . .)

After drinking copius quantities of margaritas I had the 5th hol3 in my left ear done and it is through the cartlidge. It was more painful than I thought it would be and decided not to do my right ear. Since then 9 has been my lucky number!!

I have both ears pierced and I've had 4 tattoos done. I say 'had' because one is a cover-up to one that turned out bad. No it was not someone's name it was a sun but the ink bleed under my skin and I had to cover it up. I covered it with a big ole' heart that I thougt at the time was cool but I hate it now and can't weight to find something else to cover it up with.

My two others are a cursive 'J' on my left shoulder right above my left breast and the other is my name on my left ankle. My ankle was the first one.

I don't have any piercings, I'm too chicken for that. The thought of a hole being poked through me without it being numbed is not cool.

10-25-2007, 03:08 PM
I have first, and second holes in my ears, left cartilage, and a middle ear piercing on the right ear. so six piercings, and for my last birthday, [the big 18] my dad got me a tattoo.

its angel wings on my back. they are about the size of two hands. Ill get a pic... :]

I love them all and am planning on more, I am going to get stars down my side when I hit my weight goal, a lip piercing is the halfway point :]

I have my ears pierced (1 in the right, 2 in the left, although I never use the second hole anymore) and a tattoo. I got a tattoo to celebrate one year of maintaining my weight loss. I didn't know that Chinese tattoos were considered horribly trendy and tacky when I got it, but I have 4 traditional Chinese characters of a proverb "dripping water can eat through stone." It's to remind me of all the hundreds of little decisions/changes I have to make everyday to keep the weight off.

Although I've gotten a lot of snide comments about how tacky Kanji tattoos are, I still absolutely love mine. The symbols are beautiful and the meaning is very important and personal.

It is on my back, about 2 inches below a typical shirt collar, about 3 inches long, ending above the bra strap. Very easy to hide for my corporate job, but it's really just for me anyway.

Here is a pic, when it was first done (the album is opening so slowly for me, I can't link directly to the picture - it's the last picture in the album):

Yep, child of the 80's here too. I had 4 in one side of my ears and 3 in the other. I got my first tat at 16 (SHHHHH dont my mom wasnt told until I was 18) it is on my shoulder, and I got one on my hip about 10 years later. I am almost due for another, but I am considering covering up the one on my hip with something else. I agree take your time and make sure it isnt something you will regret in 5 or so years.. that would be bad.

That's a cool tatt stars!

I only have one tattoo which I got when I was 18, yeah, yeah, teen rebellion whatever... I just tried to take a picture of it, but couldn't do my Linda Blair head rotation near the bathroom mirror to see what I was taking a picture of. I found a pic online that is pretty close to it though, it's an old school style skull with a rose in it's teeth. I really don't remember putting much thought into it when I was getting it, other than it looked cool and fit in with my heavy metal wild-child persona I was back then. Thank God I grew out of that! My sister and I got tattooed on the same day. She got a black widow spider with a skull in place of part of the spider's body. We looked real cool during my wedding with both of our tatts showing while we wore our girly-girl dresses

starsxxxstraps, what a beautiful tattoo, I love it!

I love yours also Glory, and the meaning behind it. I know a lot of people get kanji symbols, but yours means something so personal to you, as opposed to getting symbols for mere decoration. I like it. :)

I have 6 tattoos, an industrial and both ears have something pierced.

10-25-2007, 03:21 PM
I always wanted a tattoo, but I was afraid of the whole expanditure thing. Yanno, that myth...where people say..."What if you get a dolphin/kitten tattoo and then you get fat and it's more like a whale/flabby tiger type situation"

It still freaks me

For piercings, just my ears and my nose.

I have three tats - technically two, but one was re-done. I've got a red rose (started out yellow) in honor of my "Uncle" Tim who died of AIDS in 1995 on my back kind of in the middle right (as if that makes any sense!) The other one is at the base of my neck and is a big heart with a rose piercing it and a banner that reads "Victory". I had them wrap the heart with barbed wire in honor of my rancher hubby as a wedding present to him in 2004.

I do have plans for another tat - a huge back piece that encompasses my others. At the top will be a cascading cherry blossom tree limb and underneath that will be waves in the style of Hiroshige. There will be a Hibiscus blossom on the left side - to form some symmetry with my rose - and at the bottom will be a huge star - to signify my last name - with Spanish style details (I want it to look like embossed leather) for my hubby's heritage. Right in the middle, from below the existing heart to right above the star, will be my name in Kanji. Then, on the side where the waves originate (left), I'm going to have a pre-WW2 geisha done from right below my armpit to right above my hip.

I've drawn up the basics and am going to gift the tat to myself once I've been at my goal weight for a year. It's a very meaningful piece to me, touching on my ancestors, my hubby's ancestors, and my personal taste. I can't wait! Gotta get this weight off!

10-25-2007, 03:50 PM
thanks girls :] I love showing it off!

I like everyone elses too!

10-25-2007, 04:14 PM
I don't have one yet but I have wanted one for a long time. I just need to find the perfect symbol. I want something earthy-birthy and one that reflects my place on the planet is in the Southwest US.

I need to find someone talented who can design it.

10-25-2007, 04:28 PM
I have full sleeves (both arms), and tattoos on my back and both ankles. Used to have my ears pierced on the lobe and on the top, but the tops closed up and I don't wear any earrings anymore. Used to have my tongue pierced too, but that didn't really work out very well (I play flute and sax). So currently, no piercings but lots and lots of tats. Pictures in my "Progress Pictures" link in my signature.

10-25-2007, 04:49 PM
I have 6 piercings, all in my ears.4 on one side,2 on the other, and one tattoo of a hummingbird on the inside of my ankle.I want to get another tattoo, but as one of my goals.

10-25-2007, 04:52 PM
Love all the tattoos! Of course I love looking at tattoos, period.

I have three and two more are coming soon.

As far as piercings, just for earrings...3 in one ear and 2 in the other...had three in it but it kept getting infected so let it close up.

I have a turtle on my hip. My best friend moved to California and we got matching turtles on our hips so that we're still connected at the hip.

10-25-2007, 05:25 PM
I have three piercings in each ear. Used to have my cartilage pierced but had to take it out. My husband kept hitting it{on accident} and the darn thing never seemed to heal. I only have one tattoo on my lower back, which I got after I had my first son. It's tribal but has a heart within a heart which symbolizes my love for him. I wanted to get something celtic {for my heritage} but couldn't decide on anything. I want to get another for my youngest son. Maybe a celtic heart knot or something with his name.{Aidan} But then again I like the foot tattoo's but no one around here will do them. This picture is right after I got it done{about 5 years ago} that's why it's so darn red!!

Yes there's a funny story about my tattoo.. I got this guy that was just absolutely covered in tattoos all up his arms and chest and head and every visible place that wasn't covered up by clothes that was going to do my tattoo on my toe and he kept stalling and asking me like 5 times if I was ABSOLUTELY sure if I wanted to do this. So finally I was like YES I DO want to do this why do you keep asking me that? Just go ahead and do it already.. He was like "because lady your feet and hands are the most painful places you can get a tattoo".. I was like okay thanks for telling me that but go ahead and do it. I think he expected me to cry or something but I didn't. It only took 10 minutes and it didn't hurt that much at all and the tattoo guy afterwards said he was impressed with me and that I made him feel like a sissy lol!

Yeah.. I understand wanting to have a navel piercing to show off your weight loss. I had lost 25 pounds, went from 150 to 125 again when I went and got mine, I had gained all the weight from stress of watching my dad die very slowly and then lost it because of grieving/stress. Unfortunately my navel just wouldn't cooperate with me! I had a really cool piercing picked out after it was supposd to heal. I found out later that when my mom had my ear lobes pierced as a baby she had a heck of a time keeping my ears uninfected. So I do think you're right that some people's bodies just put up a real good fight to being pierced.

I have 4 holes in my ears, a navel ring and a tattoo of roses and ivy on my ankle. If I think of tomorrow when I'm more ambitious I'll snap a pic of it. Here's one of my belly ring though (ignore the stretch marks *sigh* darn pregnancy). This was taken right after it was done so it's still a quite swollen in the pic.

I wanted to get a tattoo on my lower back when I hit the 40lb mark but am kinda changing my mind. I'm not as young as I used to be and I fear I'll look cheap when I'm older sporting a tramp stamp.

10-26-2007, 02:59 AM
No piercings for me. I tried my ears several times when I was younger and they never healed. I still have a little lump of scar tissue in my left lobe from the first try.

I do have one tattoo on my right ankle. On the outside is a fairy I designed, very stylized, basically just lines with some shading. Then the whole way around are scrolling lines with colored tips and starbursts in colors that match the fairy with one big starburst on the inside. I've always loved fairies and mermaids and the like and would love to get a mermaid someday as well. I also plan on doing one to commemorate the first tri that I did, sort of as a tribute to how far I've come. I want to finish losing weight before I get anymore though so i don't have to worry about any distortion or shrinkage.

10-26-2007, 07:18 AM
Piercings - two holes in each ear, my eyebrow and nose. Waiting until December for my first tattoo - money reasons. I will do more piercings once this last one heals up.

10-26-2007, 02:32 PM
I have one tattoo on my left shoulder blade I have and 9 piercings ... 3 in each ear, tongue, belly button aaaand ....... (TMI)

10-27-2007, 05:00 PM
No piercings for me- had the problem with the ears never healing.. for out later that nickel allergies runs in my family. But I would LOVE to have my nose pierced :(

I do, however, have 3 tattoo's that i am absolutely in love with :D I have a pink hibiscus flower on my right hip (in back), a little black dragonfly on top of my left foot, and for my third I had the hawaiian word for patience put above the dragonfly in hot pink. When I hit my goal weight I plan to get something (still thinking on what, somthing symbolic for my weight loss journey) on my hip (in front). Something cute, girly, & pink :)

Angie has 2 tattoos and 2 holes in each ear...

I got nutin'

10-28-2007, 03:32 AM
I have my nose pierced. No tattoos yet. I do plan on getting at least two tattoos once I lose some weight though. Sort of a reward.

10-28-2007, 03:43 AM
I have 5 tattoos:
Lower back: Nautical star that says "Carpe Diem" across the middle
Right and Left Wrists: 'Francis' and 'Irene' (for great grandparents)
Toe: little green vine with the initial 'M'
Ankle: 11:11 with a corporate sign

12 piercings:
Three in each lobe, tragus, left cartilage, lip, tongue, nose, VCH (:o)

10-28-2007, 06:18 AM
I just have my nose pierced and my ears pierced once for now. I'm thinking about getting a tragus or industrial once I lose more weight and want to draw the eye towards my jawline (since it's now nonexistant!!).

Sometime in the spring I'm hoping to get a tattoo on my upper back. I'm REALLY picky about tattoos and would absolutely positively throw a fit if anyone had anything remotely like what I have. Luckily, adding meaning to my tattoos is complex which leads to a complex image! The one I'm planning (once I get someone to help me draw it) is a cartoon profile of an elephant in rosey pink with 3 pink stargazer lilies surrounding it. There are 3 levels of meaning to that.

I also want a green shamrock behind a stylized (like the Boston old timey logo) "Believe" because no matter where in the world I may be, I'll always be in the Red Sox nation. Not sure where yet because I'm not sure what parts of my body I will like! I'll probably get that right before I graduate from college. I also want the Arbol del Tule of Oaxaca, Mexico while I'm in Mexico up my spine.
