Crikey talk about a chatty lot. Took me a while to read through that lot.
Well I am home and this keyboard sucks. Guess the grand master of the circus has been chatting and eating or something. Oh no, it is getting better as I go. Must have just needed some one to bash it about abit. Anyway, any spelling mistakes belong to it and not to me - OK???
Dull and boring flight home last night. Still I suppose that's better than the excitement of some plane trips we have from time to time. The house looks like a bomb got in the way of a redevelopment. Full of DS2's stuff from his house and my junk. I'm off shortly to find one of those storage units for rent so we can get some of the stuff out of it and let operation clean up and clear up commence. So I'll be buying packing boxes and getting knee deep in dust. My sinuses will no doubt be telling me about it soon too.
Work yesterday was pretty yucky as well. Not to say we didn't get anything done, we did. However the budgetary reins have been pulled tight and we can't spend anything on training material or anything. Funny thing is that I can work all hours - last weeks billable hours were for 8 days and they didn't blink an eyelid, just signed off. I did actually work longer but decided I will bill out the extras week by week as I won't be working so much overtime anymore. Training starts next Wednesday and we are so not prepared. I don't think I have ever been so not prepared in my life. Not sure whether to bedazzle them with my brilliance or bewilder them with my bullsh*t.
Ruth - Don't go back to Georgia. Too much of a good thing etcetc. Men like to think that they are big on space saving. So if we put the little womans freezer just here and build some doors on front, and make the walls nice and snug, then she won't complain because we have actually made the cupboard smaller than the dimensions she gave us. That gives her more space to hang another knicknack dodaddy there! Brownie points - bonus. Up goes the cupboard and no one stops to work out the ramifications!!! My Mum and Dads carpenter put the freezer in such a spot that you had to shift it to get to the power cord - much less turn it on and off and the electrician, bless his analytical brain, decided to shorten the cord so that Mum wouldn't have to lift it to sweep behind the freezer (like she was going to shift it every other week! Then when things went wrong - you only had to move the freezer a fraction to dislodge the power cord - I think you can all see where this is going! Guess who was the only person agile enough to hang upside down across and behind the freezer to replug it in???
Crikey - your a WASP and a FOOF - how did I ever fit in your house???
Happy, take that trip to Central Tennessee. The house will wait and I doubt that you have made it that dirty that you need to do everything again.
Glad the hair turned out fine and happy hot tamale, whatever that may be. Another something akin to poutine???? (Now that ought to bring Carla out of the ethernet.
Madcat - take that trip. You only live once and there is a whole world out there for the looking. We're hearing a bit about Cuba here now. Wasn't even on the radar a couple of years back. Strange how the world turns.
Help desk - shouldn't that read no-help desk as basically all they ever tell me is I must reboot. Daleks exterminate, help desks reboot. Mind you I have two things I must say to their benefit. Most of the problems are not of their doing, those who make the rules, rarely get to answer help desk queries and I have seen some very bad decisions as far as SOE's go (Standard Operating Environment - it's usually big business that use these, they set up the rules to who gets what, who can access what, and why) And they never have enough servers to cope with the masses of twits like us users and so the help desk cop the flak because the system is slow, stupid, not doing what it oughta etc.etc.etc. They are also expected to know what every stupid Microsoft or SAP message means immediately if not sooner and just because I point to the thing on my screen, doesn't mean they can see it from 10K down the road believe it or not. When I did SAP help desk back in the dim dark ages, I had to have a German dictionary by my side to try to translate some of the stupid messages. It's better now. The messages are in English, they just don't make sense.
Rennie - glad to have been of help. I find living within ones conscience makes for a much easier, saner, more caring life. No conflicts within - so to speak - and therefore no ulcers, reflux or stomach acid because you are so churned up inside trying to justify to yourself your own decisions. Religious or not stick to the courage of your convictions - and it does take courage. Good on ya (Australia's highest accolade I think)
Holly - sure PM me some motivation. Only don't rush to do it because I won't have time to read it until Monday. Sorry to hear that you are still not well, still out there battling to earn the money and still coping with the family.
Mel - you and I will discuss the affairs of the world tomorrow. Have a good day and don't work too hard.
And that is it from this chick. I'm done. Off to harass the staff at the gym - you'll note I didn't say I was going to the gym. And then to the storage container place on the corner of the street where the gym is. Then pack, clean, pack some more, clean some more. Can't start on the kitchen until the stuff is out of the way and the space is clean and clear. Then we can get moving.
See ya

Good morning ladies,
Lots of chatting - tough to keep up with you all. So instead I think I'll just sit back with my cuppa and enjoy the conversation.
Happy cleaning Shad. Pull Mel over - I think she's the toss queen. You can do double duty and chat while flinging things :encore: Enjoy your phone chat today.
Rennie - I don't have any wrinkles either and I'm older than you. I credit it to the fact that I don't do the sun tan thing. I'm also quite surprised I never got the smoker's wrinkles. Short of having a terribly hard life, I think the sun ages you more than anything. You cleaning tips sound like a page right out of the Fly Lady book.
Mel - next Sunday we move the clocks behind. Should give you a bit more light in the morning but you'll have to get out the matches and light the candles earlier in the evening
Patty - I'm pretty geared up to pump up the exercise in November too. I kind of diddled away October and I have a Christmas holiday goal to get to.
Hope you feel better Holly. Try and get a little bit more sleep since you can't change too much of the other stuff going on right now.
Cuba Madcat? :dunno: I guess I'm an old fart and I'm thinking Cuba is a place you leave, not a place you visit  Then again, I am probably not the one to ask when it comes to places to travel. Hope you find something good.
Ceejay - bummer on the coffee table. Hope it gets in soon. I'm sure you'd like to have the room finished and done with.
Carla - I keep thinking there's something I wanted to say to you but it's constantly alluding me. I'll think of it soon I'm sure. Just call me a ditz...
Ok, I'd better get busy here. We decided we're going to take a drive tomorrow to check out that house. Which means that a weekend's worth of stuff has to get done today. Enjoy your weekend ladies - howdies to the chicks I didn't get to one on one

Greetings from the Lone Star State--
Not only has the group expanded, but everybody (except me) is writing more.
DH whined a bit last week about "couldn't I earn more money" so I've been trolling for more work... but I'm also wanting to paint, draw and knit. I know, I know, no excuses. Anyway, I'm also doing WW... and writing my food... which is illuminating, helpful and not always much fun. It occurs to me I'm rather like a binge drinker... I don't binge all that often (any more), but often enough to confuse my already confused metabolism, and often enough to not be fully "sober" between times. Yet, I notice improvement.
Best to each.
Where are y'all going for November?

Where are y'all going for November?
Painter - good to see you back again. Good luck drumming up more clients.
Is it time to pick another place already? :?: Cripes - where did the month go?
Ok, here's my suggestions... for what they are worth -
"Nowhere in November" - I kinda like it here in Ontario. Certainly has not been as stressful as September was for us. And... if we're in Canada - we're in North America which starts with N :spin:
I know Mel is just honking and hollerin' to bring Santa out of the closet :hohoho: but I think it's just too darn cold :brr: to go to the North Pole.
We could always go to the Netherlands and get high :smoking:
We could all pile in at Nae's house where it's ALMOST as cold as the North pole :hyper: where we can cook up some stew, sit around the fire and sing and watch the deer in the early morning. I will bring the big telescope and we can look at the stars and planets. :stars:

Or you could be warm and go to Nadi in Fiji, New Caledonia, or New Zealand. (not so warm). Or we could go to Nevada, Never Never Land, Namibia, New Guinea, Naples, Norway, or Nebraska or even North Carolina

Hiya all,
Had a long chat with Mel this morning. You should all be able to sleep better in your beds tonights. We have sorted the world. More or less.
Well I have achieved most of what I set out to do this weekend. Cleaned, some of the house, packed the DS2's stuff into boxes, cleared most of my stuff out of the kitchen and packed that, hired the shed, bought a new dishwasher and microwave (spent some money hey!! ) I got the F & P dishdrawers instead of a full washer. It cleans just as efficiently and can be set for full loads in either drawer, half loads in each drawer or only use one drawer and either way uses very little water. Since it will only be used when one drawer gets full, I guess we will be using it one at a time. DS2 will install it temporarily in the next week or so and I have to decide on the shape of the kitchen to come so we can get cracking on that. I will have to come home and do the painting part of it while he does the electrical and plumbing. I think I have more or less decided on black and white and stainless steel colour scheme and will add colour with the butter yellow walls and some touches of blue etc in the tiles for the splashback.
But that is in the future. Meantime I need to rest my weary feet, pay some bills and then have a break before we head off to the airport.
And that is about it. Think I will go back to the office for a rest and I'm sure DS2 will be pleased to kick me out of the car at the airport tonight. Other than that things are a-okay.
See ya.

Argh stainless steel!   I know it's currently the "in" thing to have but it's a :censored: to clean and it's a :censored: :censored: to keep clean. I'd toss mine if I had the chance.
I had to look up dishdrawer as that is a new concept. Kinda sort looks like a dishwasher to me. I don't see the difference between that and a regular dishwasher. Does see tho like it's going the way of my clothes washer with much more efficient use of water.
Sounds like you were two fingers short of running around like a mad woman Shad. Pity you have to run back right away and pick up the other job. But I'm sure you're feeling some sense of satisfaction so it's worth it!
Ok Mel - so it's settled. We're both going nowhere
I don't have time to chat. Living on borrowed time here trying to gulp some coffee into me. Then it's a quick shower and we're on the road.
Happy Sunday - talk to you later...

Shad, I agree with Happy on the stainless, although it does look lovely. Give me good old white every time. Much easier for a slob like me to keep clean. As for the dish drawers, I think they're brilliant, and I intend to have one when I redo my kitchen. Much quieter, no bending over to fill and empty, and, best of all, less water wasted. One thing though - the people I know who have dishdrawers have never, ever, used the second drawer and wish they'd only bought the one, leaving room for a nice deep drawer underneath.
So you're heading back to the contract from h*** already! Bummer. Be brave!
Mel, we've been having the same weird weather as you. Although it hasn't snowed yet, we do seem to have run through the seasons at least once if not twice this week. In fact I think I'll blame my recent bingeing on the weather - certainly can't be my fault! ;)
Enjoy the mall trip. If there's an 'oomph' store there, could you pick me up a 6-month supply? I seem to be all out. :(
Happy, I agree with you on going nowhere this month, although be forewarned that as the days go by, November in Ontario will get sadder and sadder. Already there are many trees bare of leaves, they've drained the canal, there's rain and the wind has picked up, and soon the first snowfall and the rush to get snow tires on the car and find somewhere to store the all-seasons-except-for-Canadian-winter tires... :tantrum: (sorry - pet peeve number 6,720,479)
If you like the house you're visiting today, will that mean a move and a longer commute? Are you a member of that nomadic tribe that has to change houses whenever they get the one they're in just right? :yikes:
Madcat, if you're in the mood for a beach holiday, Cuba is great and worth the $$. Even better if you do one of the packages that visits parts of the island other than Varadero. I've been there a few times (not recently), and always enjoyed myself. It has changed a lot since they first developed the tourist industry. A beautiful country with nice people. Of course with the embargo there's nothing much to buy except rum and sugar cookies (okay, that's a slight exaggeration)... Except for a Swatch watch at he airport with Che's face on the dial - I'll always regret leaving that behind, and may well go back one of these days just to get one! Oh - if you're doing any tours, the guides expect large tips in US dollars, and there are many, many guides on every tour.
Ceejay, did the coffee table show up yet? What's it like? I've been planning to get a new one for ages, but as usual planning is as far as it got. I like the idea of something with a couple of drawers for all the stuff that accumulates on top. And no more glass top to bark my shins on and wipe pawprints off of all the time. Of course if I were tidy and a good housekeeper like you, those wouldn't be problems. :dunno:
Rennie, I agree with you on sleeping arrangements. In my book, whoever owns the house makes the rules. (I actually think one of the reasons so many kids don't leave home or come right back to stay is because their parents let them have the BF or GF sleep over. What a silly idea!) Now if the kids involved have been living together for a long time, have their own home and kids of their own, I'd consider them equivalent to married. Have you considered tents in the back yard for the overflow?
Linus, you disappeared around the time I started posting here. I must say you sound about 1000% better than you did then! I'm glad you made it through. And your boys are a very handsome crew indeed!
Rose, we're all dying to hear about the new BF. Did you meet over the net? Was he what you expected? A friend in NYC met a fantastic guy on yahoo. He was her second internet date, and they've been together for two years and plan to stay that way, so I do know it can work.
Well, ladies, I think I'd better get moving. Don't know if it's the weather, but I seem to be having a bit of the blues these days. And when Carla has the blues, Carla stuffs her face, gains weight, and gets more than just a bit of the blues... I have been spinning twice a week at about 500 cal a shot, and still managed to pack on almost 5 pounds. :yikes: I blame the very expensive new black pants that needed me to lose about 5 (now ten) lbs to be a perfect fit. And, of course, the fact I've been tossing the 'big' clothes as I shrink, which means I have about three things that fit, none of them blouses or sweaters. At least it makes packing for a trip easy! This week is a travel week for work, always a diet disaster, but I'm hoping to get back on track once I'm home, especially if Mel finds the oomph store at the mall. (Maybe while she's there she can check lost and found and see if they've got my mojo, cause it sure isn't anywhere around here?)
Take care all. I really must get some cleaning done so the lady feeding the cats while I'm away isn't too grossed out by the mess.
 to Ruth, Meadow, Holly (hope your cold is all gone!), Painter, and 1dayatatime.

It seems I may have been wrong about the white stuff. As I type, there's something that looks suspiciously like snow falling out there! :yikes: The sun is shining, and I realize it's probably hail, but still... Tried to take a snap of it to no avail - it just doesn't show up against the sky. If I succeed later, I'll post the results. Are y'all sure you want to stay here for November?  I guess I can keep my avatar a while longer - Dumouchel's 'Horrible Snow Cat' seems quite apt today.

Eureka! A neighbour was out walking her dog and confirms the white stuff really was snow. Of which she took a picture you'll see below. Or maybe later - it seems I need to resize it, and can't quite remember how to do that. But it really was snow.
Okay, so I had to reduce the resolution to attach it, and now you'll need a magnifying glass to see the flakes... It's not going to get any better.

I can see them, I can!!!! :woohoo:
Quick post this morning as I didn't get in until after 2.ooam and I slept in and I still haven't had my coffee.
Happy - Yep stainless steel can be the pits. I remember we had this conversation a while back about the various cleaners. Well yesterday when buying this thing, I considered white. I was actually going to buy white because of the dreaded SS, however we were discussing this with Gail the salesperson who said, just you hang abart there for a bit while I gogitsomestuff. So expecting brochures about how good the stuff is to clean now I was somewhat perplexed when she came back with butter and jam and bread and a toaster! Does anyone other than me find this strange??? Anyway we made toast and got the butter out of the dishwasher (yes strange place to keep butter. And we shut the door and buttered the toast, and then we picked up the toast and sort of dropped it into our hands, then we opened the dishwasher and took out the jam and left lovely greasy spots everywhere. Then we smeared jam and more butter on the thing and then some vegemite and on and on it went. We were attracting quite a crowd here. Some kid decided we needed icecream on it as well but no one had any so that got knocked on the head.
Anyway to cut a long story short. DS2 picked up the dishcloth thing and wiped over the drawers - all the women in the crowd told him which bits he missed. He then wet the cloth (hot water) and tried again and lo and behold all marks are gone. No streaks, nothing. Apparently now the stainless steel is covered with a form of stainless steel paint which is baked on - just like they do the white ones. Voila - no streaking. Who knows whether it will last for 10 years or so. It's guaranteed for 5. We will see. It is now virtually impossible to get a good oven or rangehood which is not stainless steel and I did want to see the kitchen all matched up. Anyway for what it is worth I did it and bought it and will let you know how it goes. But I thank you all for caring about my housekeeping wellbeing. Actually talking about the dishdrawers (Carla) We always thought that their was only one variety. They came in twos, but you just bought and installed one if that was what you wanted. But it isn't - there are singles. You can't split the doubles but you can buy singles - so if you want two, one on either side of the sink for instance you can do it with singles.
And I had to laugh because with the doubles, you need to check with the Rabbi as to whether you need one or two waste exits to keep the thing Kosher. It's written in the book!
Now, I have a pile of cr*p sitting on my desk - I'd better go do something about it. Why can't folk just leave me alone in my misery and stop interfering with my life. I'll be back to comment further later.

Turned out to be a good day after all. Started out with NO INTERNET SERVICE. Apparently the wireless router belched or had an infarct or something. DH went to Frye's and got ethernet cable so now I am hardwired!:carrot: AND we actually have security for the stuff we type. Except for the possibility of tripping on aforementioned cable, it is MUCH better. By the end of the month (or at least before company comes, next) there will probably be some re-threading of the cable through the sheet rock in various rooms.
Go SOX!!!
Oh, and while he was installing said cable, I went outside and pulled weeds and other out-of-place plants. I must remember to take a big dose of Advil before bed or I won't be able to get up in the morning. OUT. OF. SHAPE. If any of you know good cold weather perrenials, let me know, OK?
Thanks for the warnings on stainless appliance fronts. Low lighting and myopia are my best friends.
Mel -- if the nutters have phones I'd therapize them via telephone! But from the way you spoke of them, I'm thinking you aren't that close.
I would vote for Never-never-land. Here's the on line list I found:
Nagorno-Karabakh (Unrepresented)
Namibia
Nauru
Nepal
Netherlands
Netherlands Antilles
New Caledonia
New Zealand
Nicaragua
Niger
Nigeria
Niue (New Zealand)
Northern Ireland (UK)
Northern Mariana Islands
Norfolk Island (Australia)
Norway
US States beginning with N:
Nebraska
Nevada
New Hampshire
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota
Madcat-- I think mostly we regret what we DIDN'T do. I've had very nice friends from Cuba. Definitely a culture of their own. Keep us posted.
Linus- glad to read life is settling in for the better. Will have to go search for the photo of the family.
Off to watch the series!

There are some interesting things in lists people find. Painters list decrees that Niue is New Zealand. Now this might not mean much to the good folk who have no idea where or what Niue (noooay) is, but it is a little island in the Pacific and is or rather was a dependency of NZ many years ago. Same are the Friendly Isles, Tonga, Samoa and to a certain extent Fiji, as well as Pitcairn (think Mutiny on the Bounty) Auckland Islands and the Chathams.
I have a distinct impression that Niueans might go to war for that statement on the list.
From the Google site (although it is advertising for tourism):
Niue is affectionately known as the 'Rock of the Pacific' and is believed to be the largest coral atoll in the world. The island is located in the centre of a triangle bounded by the Cook Islands to the Southeast, Samoa in the North and Tonga to the Southwest. Captain Cook landed on the island in 1774, and was met by a hostile reception, so he and his men beat a hasty retreat. As a result of the experience he named the island the 'Savage Island', which could not be further from the truth, as the people are lovely, very friendly and welcoming.
New Zealand on the other hand is a BIG country compared to the rock of the Pacific and is also known as Aotearoa (land of the long white cloud).
We no longer control Nuie although we do send aid (and refugees from time to time) to bolster up the economy.
Just goes to show even the Internet can give out conflicting information. I see from the internet that the CIA did an entry on Niue - World from the CIA World Fact Book, 1992 edition. They spelt the name wrong 3 times!!!!
happy2bme

Perhaps the people of Niue - like those of Groote Eylandt are warm and welcoming to their own but just don't like those durn fur-in-ers (foreigners) invading their space and messing with the cultures  Interesting as to what the landscape would be like living on top of "land" consisting of coral.
I am, as usual, completely open to whereever or no whereever we decide to go. Up to whomever sets up the new thread and if no one does, well then after a few days I'll just set us up in Nowhere. :D
Rennie - I noticed the typo too but I was hesitant to say anything as I have had unpleasant encounters occasionally here on 3FC when I mentioned something or offered my opinion. Of course that has always been OUTSIDE of the people on this thread so I suppose I should have said something too.
Painter, you must be :yay: today as I see the Boston Red Sox won the baseball World Series. :D
Ceejay - glad you got the coffee table. Always a nice feeling to be finally done decorating a room. I have 1 room in my house like that
Carla - snow? :yikes: that's worse than Mel talking about :santa: Although I always thought it was pretty the very first snow of the season. It was 3 months into it when I would cringe watching the weather forecast.
Mel, where are you? Hope everything is ok on your side of the coastline
Well we did not buy another house yesterday. We had a longer than planned drive because this state is not very good at marking roads. I had some good maps but twice we did not see that the road we wanted to be on verred veared? off somewhere else. We looked at several homes. First of all, when you are downsizing it's hard to get excited about something that is both smaller and not the same quality that you had. Now please don't think me the snob but I'm talking little things like the quality of the kitchen cabinets and bathroom fixtures and such. It's not bad, not something that you can't change out if it really bugs you, it's just that you walk in, look around and you don't get that wow - I love it feeling. But like going on practice interviews just to get your feet wet, this was a good exercise to kind of temper your expectations. Besides the older homes, we did look at some new construction. Found some stuff that was a bit more than our downsizing budget but still on the upper end of affordable. That was the wow stuff - big, bright open and airy rooms, my beloved spa bathtub that I have coveted my entire life! And things are nice and new and shiny - not scuffed or worn or odd colors. Of course the trend now in new houses with the open floor plan is to paint the entire house 1 color - not sure I like that especially if it's sage green or lemon yellow. The biggest problem with the new homes is that they are built right on top of one another. You go on your back deck and you neighbors reach over with their plate for a bite of your dinner  The worst part is that many (but not all) people have lost the fine art of being good, considerate neighbors and we seem to pick living by the ones who are noisy, messy or just don't give a hoot about anyone other than themselves. So having a bit of a buffer and privacy is important to us. So as I told DH on the way home, we will have to temper things with what is most important to us. I'm thinking it means getting an older home with more space around it and if we have to sock some money into fixing it up, so be it. Like the house we have now, we had to come to a compromise on what had the most important things we were looking for in a home. And no Carla - we are not about switching houses. We were in our last home 22 years. We are now looking for the place we want to retire too in the next few years. Since the housing market is so bad right now, it's a buyer's market and we are just starting to look around to get an idea of what might be acceptable to us and what we can expect 2 years down the road.
And with that, I need to get off my duff and go earn a few more house payments. Love to the chicks...

Rennie~ Some technical writer I am since I didn’t even notice the typo. And I complain all the time that no one reads any more! See, proves my point.
Carls~ I was out yesterday and lunch and the rain was falling as tiny hail stones. I guess it’s that time again. Sigh. It makes Cuba seem that much more attractive. I was also there about 7 years ago (pre-DH), in Cayo Coco and had a great time. The people are really amazing and warm and gracious about sharing their island. This time I think we are going to try Veradero, even though I know it is more developed than other areas, just because we’ve heard good things about it. There is this place where you can even go and swim with Dolphins and I have wanted to do that my entire life. Also, I think they’ve cracked down on bringing US dollars into the country and you are now expected to bring Canadian and do the exchange there. Well, that’s the official word. I’ll have to check around to see what is done “unofficially”. Now as long as Castro stays healthy. Hear you on the clothing dilemma. I’ve been rotating through the same 3 pairs of pants for a month now and refusing to go shopping. Luckily I can get away with most of my same tops (at least the stretchy ones). Frankly, I’m considering the burlap sack as a fashion option.
Happy~ I didn’t realize that you were seriously looking for a new, smaller house. I assumed it was one of those “let’s go look at some places” trips. Always dangerous, those. I ended up buying a house in the suburbs once doing that… At least you are not in a rush and the right place will come along if you look long enough. I don’t have to remind you that paint colours can be changed. I totally agree about not waning to live in my neighbour’s pocket. Maybe you could ask them to pass the salt? The old saying about fences making good neighbours is about right. And a lot of Canadians go to Cuba for holidays since our government has never banned travel to the island. Probably because at times Canada is inches from socialism ourselves!
Shad~ Thank you for info on Nieu. I can imagine they would be a tad touchy about being lumped under New Zealand if they are independent. Geez, some nice weather you are having in Brisbane at the moment. Must make you slightly glad to be in Perth. And how cool is the advancement in stainless steel technology. Glad to hear that you can get the look without all the maintenance. I assume the dish drawer approach is also more energy and water efficient? The latter being vitally important in your neighbourhood.
Mel~ Enjoy your mall crawl today. And is that Hyacinth Bucket? Can I have the hats? And Mel, no one believes you are 60 because you are 16 in your heart.
Holly~ Hope the presentation went well.
Patty~ welcome back. At least you are working out and November will be a better month. For all of us.
Painter~ Glad to hear that the WW is bringing at least a greater awareness into the whole eating thing. How good is that. Why can’t we make more money at stuff we actually enjoy doing? That would be great.
Ok, I have to run off and make a transatlantic call to London. My boss is out of the office with Shingles :yikes: which has hit her head/scalp and is affecting her eye sight. This is not something to be taken lightly. I have a friend who lost sight in one eye from that very thing (though mind you she had a compromised immune system at the time)k, so it’ll be a busy couple of days. I’m only here for 3 days before I jet off to Mel’s neck of the woods with my sister for a whirlwind tour of NYC’s art museums. How many Matisses (Matissi?) can we spot? Who knows. I’ll be back in to check before we go.

Morning all,
Mel you bring the magic dust, I have an oversupply of bulldust.
Happy - it's always wise to think about what you want and go have a look at things well beforehand. That way you can meet up with the trends and keep thinking about what you really want. Don't forget to write it down and tick or cross off as required. You may need a toilet roll in the end (to carry the list of wants) but at least you can check them off as you go. One of my things these days is to go around the new housing estates and look at the displays. It gives you an idea of how to furnish as well and they usually put all the interesting gadgets into the display homes. One thing they do over here is to sell off the display homes as they are built and then lease them back for the period of a year or so. The owner then ends up with one of the best houses in the street, gets rent for a year and can sell off or rent or live in after the display period is over - usually when the estate is full. It's actually not a bad idea.
I'm quite happy to have a go nowhere month - stay at home month etc. especially since I will be travelling to and from Karratha for most of the month. It will be good to have a safe and solid base.
Madcat - coming up for rainy season in the tropics and since it is the first decent rains we have had for some time, we don't mind it one bit (except when it delays the flights). Cuba sounds good. Not been there. You are going to be doing a bit of travel yourself in the next couple of months - New York, New York and then Cuba. Let us know how the Caribbean goes. I've never been anywhere near there.
The dishwasher uses around 10L per wash per drawer. Which is better than the kitchen sink which uses 21L per wash and I usually have to change it if I have a big load. DS2 will probably have the thing up and running by now. He hates handwashing dishes.
Carla - loved the snow picture. We actually had snow here in WA over the weekend - wacky weather. They only get snow here about twice every hundred years and then only in the middle of winter. Here we are about to go from Spring to Summer and we get snow!! :yikes: Apparently the weather here in Perth was 'most unusual' this weekend with heavy rainfalls and wild winds. Wild winds also in South Australia where a tree got blown over and killed a little girl, and in Victoria where things are just starting to recover from last years devastating bush fires, the rain and wind some havoc in many places. And this is an act of God apparently and not the changing of the seasons or linked to climate change!!!! There is after all and election on - fortunately not for much longer.
Time being what it is, I had better get on with it.
Morning Rennie, glad you didn't take offence at my proof reading, the Lurking Carla, Painter, the absent Meadow and Holly and Linus - come back :running: and hiya to Pattie.
Check in again later in the day - that is if I haven't lost my temper completely and told them to go to h*ll - got close yesterday.

Evening chicks,
On the drive home tonight I stopped cursing at my fellow road hogs (doesn't ANYONE understand the concept of staying between YOUR set of lines on the road?????). Anyway I was sitting at a red light (right by the big green Statue of Liberation Shad). And there in front of me was a rather tall and odd looking van (not the kind you usually see) and it was blazoned Shred-Tech. And the license plate/tag was from Ontario. (Seems this company is located in CAMBRIDGE, Ontario). Now you certainly don't see many cars from Ontario down our way so I took it as a heavenly sign that we were meant to go nowhere in November and keep our butts parked in the chill of Ontario (good thing there are warm smiles, a bit of Tim Horton's and a nip from the various 3FC chicks' sherry collections to keep us toasty).
I guess DH would like to buy one of the houses we looked at yesterday. We need someone reliable to live in it for 2 years before we are ready to really retire. So Mel we might just move you and Shad in. I have an extra blow up mattress if she won't share hers. The house is chair friendly and it has a nice screened in porch and pool which won't do you much good this time of year unless you can dig out your got-chees/gatchies/long underwears  I think there might be a fire pit outside too. I'll leave you enough wood.
I don't know who's laughing harder with you travelling with your mattress on your back - me or Rennie. :lol3:
Ok, I have to get to bed now. Just stopped in for a quick hello. 'Nite all...

Quickie here this morning. Things have been pretty busy and I've been neglecting the boards.
Here's the scoop: Harry is failing more lately - tests show that he is having small strokes several times a week and the big short circuit could happen any time. He had a bad fall and was hospitalized but is back at the nursing home now. I am still planning to go west for November Christmas with my daughter but am making funeral arrangements before I go - today if I can get an appointment at the funeral home.
I'm also "interviewing" second dogs! I may be getting a Brussels Griffon and am going to see two of them tomorrow afternoon. Willy is three and Serena is six. Hershey is really lost without her companion and the house is strangely empty with only one dog. I'm leaning toward the female because I don't want marking in the house or leg humping. Willy would be "fixed" before I got him but it takes about ten months before the testosterone disappears - that's why we neuter when they are pups. However, we'll wait and see what they are like. It'll be strange to have a small dog but, with my knee, that'll be better for me to handle when training.
So that's what's happening. Just thought I'd clue y'all in.
By the way, November Nowhere could be good. I'll order a good supply of wood so we can sit around the stove in the back room and gab.

Morning chicks,
Drive by hello :moped:
Ruth - sorry to hear about Harry's failing health. That's neat about the new puppy. If it's smaller perhaps Hershey can be the "mom" again.
Rennie - I always thought that those big honking expensive cars people drive erratically down here didn't have turn signals because people couldn't AFFORD them after they put the bling bling wheels and accesories on them! What is really scary is that the really older gray hairs seem to prefer the really big Ford trucks. Let's face it, it's a fact that for most of us our vision gets worse as we age. Let's take someone who's not 100 percent there and put them in a really big vehicle that requires precision driving because it's TOO DARN BIG to fit in typical parking spaces and road lanes. Add a dash of yee haw - I'm riding a "big horsie" and you get me doing this :yikes: Ok off my soap box for 2 seconds.
It's Halloween eve. Hope you are all being good girls and keeping your hands out of the candy jars. Right now we are inundated with school fund raiser cookies. The good thing is that I can make just a few at a time, most of the flavors I bought are things DH likes and I can take a pass on - but there's only so much room in my tiny freezer (stupid stainless steel flush with the cabinets side by side too tiny impracticle piece of poop that it is) - so I am forced to make about 2 dozen cookies simply because I have no room to store them. And I can't even take them to work because the mom whom I bought them from has decided to go vegan and we just don't have the kind of group fun at this place like I have at other companies. Guess I'll leave them all for DH
I wasn't going to do Halloween this year but then I saw Marcus the Carcus at the store and we have a perfect place to "bury" him out front - so bring on the trick or treaters. BUT I'm not opening the bags of candy until tomorrow. Candy is losing it's appeal to me lately anyway.
Off to the salt mine for me. Have a good one chicks - don't stir up too much trouble...

Happy Halloween - see prior post for Halloween smilies. And get your hand out of the candy bowl
Mel - sorry you and Jen are feeling poorly - I sometimes wonder about those shots. Got one myself this year. Felt like she socked me in the arm with a brick about an hour later. Delayed reaction :yikes: Go do what you absolutely HAVE to get done and then sit and rest a spell. I made y'all some homemade chicken soup - pass a bowl to Holly to if you will...
Linus - I think you need to borrow Shad's blow up bed and go hide out at Mel's for a while. Just leave your perfume at home. Ah the permanently sleep deprived moms. I feel badly for you all. Ugh.
Shad that was quite the good visual of you marching away. Need a smilie of you herding the chicks in line. Hope you day wasn't too rough on the soul.
Stay warm in Newfie land Carla. I hear it's cold up that way but then of course you swim in ice ponds
Good morning Rennie, Ceejay, Painter, Madcat, Ruth, Holly and Rose.
Nothing much to report here. I didn't eat much at all yesterday. Had some eggs for breakfast which while it does fill me up, it does stick to the ribs and often I can go with a late lunch as I am not hungry. I actually skipped lunch yesterday. Had some grapes for a mid afternoon snack and a big bowl of chicken soup and noodles and carrots for supper. And 2 freshly baked peanut butter cookies and a glass of milk. This morning I am up 3 pounds. What's up with that? Damn salt. Frustrating because the Progresso line of soups has a line of lite soups that are 0 to 1 WW point. And you know how I love my soups. But the salt is a killer. Grrrrrrr  Ok, so much for my rant.
Time to get the trash together - it's garbage day. Have a good one. Happy Halloween. :ghost:

So while Shad's day is starting - mine is thankfully over. Got the last of the Excel classes tomorrow which actually is bad because it interferes with me gathering my month end stats which won't wait just because I'm in class. Got to run home now. DH is intimidated by the little kids trick or treating and he won't answer the door. This morning I was getting ready for work. It was a nice day and we had the screen door opened in front. I hear DH saying (in a soothing voice like you'd talk to a 3 year old) - "I'm sorry. Trick or treating is not until later today. I'm afraid you will have to come back later. Have a nice day." I went to the door wondering who in the heck is out at 7am when I see the cat outside pawwing on the screen looking for cat treats. He really didn't give her any either :lol3: I'll be she farts on his lap tonight. Kitties have long memories. :chicken: (we need a kitty smilie Suzanne)

Morning chicks,
Not much time to post today. I have to pack my lunch and head off to class shortly. I hope we get out early because I have about 2 hours worth of work that timing wise HAS to be done today and I'm hoping not to have to work too late tonight.
If I must say so myself I did a pretty nice job decorating the outside of the house for Halloween. We don't decorate much at Christmas because we go out of town and I don't want it obvious that it's darker when we're gone so I have to get my decorating Jones done on Halloween. We had a bunch of kids but I still bought one bag too much of candy. That will be packed and headed to work tomorrow tho I might save the 1 point mints for an occasional treat. One thing I noticed this year was "bussed in" trick or treaters. Serveral large SUVs pulled up across the street and 2 moms with about 9 kids got out and started trolling the neighborhood. They obviously weren't from here but the kids were small - no older than 5 years old and were all dressed up in cute costumes. I didn't mind because they were little kids but I thought it was odd. This happened with 3 distintive sets of kids. Perhaps our neighbors had the good candy. :dunno:
Ok, gotta run. Have a good one ladies. Don't over do it Mel :nono:

Ceejay - as far as trick or treaters go, the rule here is that if you are giving treats you turn your porch light on. Kids are not supposed to go to dark houses. So you could have gone home after all  We got our last set of kids at 8:45pm so you might have still got nailed if you went home at 8pm. Bummer that you had to miss your program. Maybe you can get an update on the Internet.

I should have come home and turned off the porch light. When I got home the street had just a couple of houses that had lights on.

I'm still planning on doing th 21 day challenge but posting here instead of that board. I can't keep up traveling all over the place. Have you tried the fiber one bars, The package says it's a good source of grains.
Yesterday's challenge was fair. There was no cardio do the fact that I had muscle cramps in both legs the night before and they were still sore and tight.
I did complete the 1 mile using the pedometer for bone health and the food diary was also completed.

I LOVE the FiberOne bars. Well just the peanut butter - don't like the chocolate one. And my friends who are nutrition gestapos approve of them too so they can't be that bad. Something like 9 grams of fiber in one bar. I often do that for breakfast with a yogurt. It keeps me going until lunch. And I can tell that high carby things just make me really hunger an hour after I eat them so for me they work. Everyone I've told about them likes them. I just limit them to no more than 3 a week - they are WW points friendly too.
And no one has noticed any detrimental too much fiber bad stuff that can happen with those sorts of things. Has anyone tried added the powdered fiber stuff to their soups and foods? Munch those apples too chicks.
What do you mean people don't have trick or treat in their neighborhoods? You mean not alot of houses giving out candy or they just flat out ban the trick or treating?

I was sitting in class today and...
Someone drove in from Oceola, Arkansas just to attend our class.
Someone was going to Ottowa next week on business.
And I was really looking forward to sitting at lunch by the wall with the big mural of the world and looking for more islands near Shad when this bloke sat at "my" table. Turns out he was from Australia. Didn't catch where. I was about to talk to him when one of his classmates came and sat with him. As time went on, he appeared to be quite a bit of a pompous bag of wind. And it's not like he was a young hottie either. I'd say he got into the computer field right after they stopped making them with vacumn tubes - you know, slightly before me  I thought to myself - he's no Shad but then again, Shad's a Kiwi - therein lies the difference I guess...
Oh hey - it's November, isn't it? Guess we're going nowhere as no one set the thread up. If Nobody cares, I'll set it up now.
Those of you who actually wanted to go somewhere can pick a nice place for December, 'k? ;)

Shy, Ceejay, if you're looking for an easy fiber hit, why not try a tbsp of ground flax seed in a glass of water, morning and night. You'll be quite incredibly regular, if you get my drift... ;) In fact it might be a good idea to start at once a day if you're not a big fiber eater already.
Madcat, enjoy your time in NYC. Are you going to hunt out the outlet clothing stores and buy up a storm? Great bargains, especially right now with our mighty Canadian dollar.
Mel, it seems to me you have elections every few months - what is that about??? You probably told us ages ago and I somehow missed it or had a senior moment at the wrong time.
Sorry to hear the flu shot laid you and Jen low. I haven't had mine yet, but will be prepared for the worst.
Shad, you little energizer bunny you! Always :running::running::running::running::running::runn ing: Good thing we're going Nowhere this month, you'd be even more tuckered out if we had to move!
Holly, that must be one heck of a nasty bug you've got! Maybe you need another trip to Ruth for some R&R to fix you up. :grouphug:
And speaking of Ruth, how's the dog search going? Are you planning on a puppy or an adult dog? We'll want to see photos once you've made a selection - an opportunity to get all squishy and sentimental about a new ball of fluff.
Happy, I confess I'm a little disappointed you're not a constant house mover - I was hoping to get some insight into how people find the energy for it. If you do opt for the place you saw that your DH liked, does that mean no retirement move to RI?
Well, here it is November, and tomorrow I'll be heading home from Newfoundland and back to Nowhere. It was freezing when we arrived on Tuesday, but has warmed up quite a bit since. It's actually quite pretty here in St John's, right on the Atlantic, all craggy and hilly. The houses in my part of town are reminiscent of San Fran, but narrower and brighter colours. I seem to remember reading that the houses are painted in such bright colours to counteract the long, dreary, windy winters. The hard part of it all is the getting up an hour and a half earlier than at home. :yikes: :tired:  And, of course, staying up until the wee hours to watch favourite tv shows. I haven't eaten any cod tongues or scrunchions, and have stayed well away from screech and cod kissing ceremonies. As for what I have eaten, let's just say that I really wish what I ate in Newf :censored: stayed in Newf... instead of coming home nicely glued onto belly and thighs.
Good night all!

Thanks for the explanation Rennie. I can definitely see your point. There is a small 2 lane road I travel to work with a gully on either side and no shoulder on the road. I think it's crazy that joggers run on that road. Are we supposed to go 2 miles an hour behind them? It's a perfect example of where there should be no little kiddies trolling either.
Glad you're back from Newfie Carla. Cod tongues. Um. Um. Um. I think I'll stick with the "other stuff" you won't talk about. But not Poutine either
I set up the new thread. We are firmly entrenched in Nowhere in November.
