Okay, everyone, as is the tradition, I start a new thread when I personally start a new challenge.

Below is a short explanation of how this challenge works so all you newcomers can take a look and decide if you're game or not! I hope you are! Hop aboard and enjoy the ride. We've got a great bunch of supportive people, so I hope you'll give us a try. A lot of people try for a while and then disappear.. I hope some of you will keep trying. There is NO shame in starting over. Remember, it's not over till you give up. And our motto around here is:

NEVER GIVE UP!!...Just start OVER!!

EXPLANATION AND RULES:

It works like this: you decide you'll do something for 21 days straight, every single day, so keep it doable. Then you count ....one through 21.....and if you flub it, you MUST go back to zero and start over again. Everyone will be on different days. You can start anytime. At the beginning of the challenge you declare what level it is -- Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 means you feel it's a relatively easy challenge for you and means you only give yourself ONE pause day (see explanation of pause days below). Level 2 would give you two pause days and so on...
And taking NO pause days is what I'm going to call "aceing a challenge," as in "I'm aiming on aceing this one!" Yowzah!! :cb:

With a pause day you pause in your counting and continue the next day with the number you left off with. Pause days are NOT substitutes for days, i.e. Day 12 -- Day 13 -- Pause Day -- Day 14..... I suggest taking a pause day late in the game (better to go back to Day 1 early on) if you need a break or screw up when you're well into the challenge, meaning, when you're on Day 15 or something like that.

In any case, the trick is to keep going. The momentum builds and it's great incentive to stick to your guns, cause if you don't.........back to START you go. :( And the really great thing about this challenge is that you are forming new habits that will wipe out the old! AND, you get to do it with a great bunch of really supportive people to whom you are accountable! :grouphug:

THREAD GUIDELINES:

In the interest of maintaining structure, a sense of solidarity and facilitating support I ask anyone who wishes to join this thread to please strive to follow the following guidelines while participating in this challenge and in posting.

1. Although this is a fabulous support group, the focus is to be on your CHALLENGE/S and/or other people's challenge/s AND weight loss, whether your challenge is about it or not. Please keep the challenge a priority, although we welcome chattiness! :lol: This means tell us what day you're on when you post and it's a good idea to make regular mention of just what your challenge is. This an action-based thread. Our members are ON a challenge, RESTARTING a challenge, or just in between and looking to start up again REAL SOON. ;) We also welcome posts from admirers, encouragers, and old friends!

2. Please refrain from posting food logs or recipes, except where you are really looking for help and advice on your eating. If journaling is your challenge, please keep the journaling off the thread and in a notebook or blog and just tell us if you've done what you set out to do. We have ALL types of dieters here, low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, vegetarians, meat-lovers...please use simple mentions if you have something you want to share and then links and/or private messages to do so.

3. Please do NOT go into glowing accounts of any slipups, food indulgences or binges, what we here call "food porn." Simple mentions are fine, but use of smilies :censored: :tape: etc. as substitutes where possible is encouraged.

4. Please keep this a secular thread. Of course, passing references to your beliefs, a bit of introduction about your beliefs, brief faith-related words of encouragement are fine. :angel:

5. Please show support, support, support! This is key. :grouphug: You can waffle on about yourself but please, at least occasionally,come up and look around at others and what they are doing and MENTION it with words of encouragement and/or praise or sympathy. We understand "busy," poor computer connections, and bouts of self-pity and life problems where the focus turns to "me" and dealing with those problems, but these should be temporary, not a habit! ('cept in the computer case.)

In conclusion, let me say, the above are just that, GUIDELINES. Please realize that these guidelines have been added in an attempt to keep this a supportive and beneficial thread, at the LEAST, to those who need it MOST, those for whom weight loss is the hardest and, more often than not, the most crucial as well as for those who still, perhaps despite great success, know all too well that the road they walk will always be a slippery one. :^:

The guidelines are also meant to cultivate an atmosphere of consideration and concern for ALL, not individually, but AS A GROUP.

I am going to try really hard to keep count of my calories tomorrow, but it will be hard. I've got to make a run up to Yellowstone again to bring my husband some supplies and of course get his dirty laundry. ugh! I'm probably going to just stay overnight and come back on Monday morning so we can visit and he can see our littlest one who doesn't understand why daddy isn't here.

Red - I know what you're saying and I sure wish I had the answers. I feel the same way quite often and don't understand the self-sabotage. I remember how great I felt about myself and life in general last year when I reached my low weight and what do I do? I gain back 15 lb. The best I can do, is work on finding my motivation again and refuse to give up. I don't care if I'm ever "skinny". I just want to feel comfortable in my own skin. I want to keep up with my kids and be able to do all the active things in life that I would shy away from when I was so big. Stay with us! Don't give up! We're all struggling along with you.

Shy - Day 13 Yay!! Good job. Sounds like you're doing such a nice thing by baking all that bread. That's so great!

OK, this is it, the start of getting serious again. I don't know what to really declare. I want to make all the tough things challenges, but fear I'll sabotage myself. Yeah, dj, I really don't understand it. I don't know if I just start feeling cocky or what, if I just go into some sort of la-la land where there are no consequences to my actions, kind of like so many areas in my life, or what. I think that may be it. So, I'm going to start forcing myself to be really conscious about my goals and reminding myself about what I am aiming for and that, yes, the plane is going to leave, with or without me on it!! That's an analogy that may work and a dream I often have, that I have a plane to catch but am not at all prepared, am miles away and can't find my passport etc. Maybe this is the connection!
OK, so on top of all the other things I will be doing to get the weight off and KEEP IT OFF I will be

1) carrying around a notebook that has my goals written down in it and I will be required to make an entry in it every day telling myself of why I am doing this, what exactly I am doing etc.

2) I will keep a food log and estimate calories. The idea is to steer away from refined sugar and processed foods and to not drink except occasionally. These parts are not challenges or too strict, just guidelines.

3) I will do my crunches in some form or another, usually 10 sets of 20, front, diagonal, sides.

4) I will do a bit of stretching every day

The last two are just to keep feeling physical when I start creeping away from it, especially in busy times where I can't get to the gym. Of course, I am going to be doing more but it won't be challenges.

dj -- Thanks for the words. Yeah, you're the same as me. Yeah, I don't want to be skinny. I see enough of that around me. I just want to be healthy, leanish, strong and vibrant and optimistic and full of energy! I will stay with you and likewise to you, "Stay with us!!" Shy -- Just who are you making all that bread for?!?! Do you work in an old folks' home? You're an angel. I'm sure you make so many people happy. Too, I guess with bread you aren't tempted to eat the raw dough either, like when baking sweets, so you're not likely to sabotage yourself. Great going on your challenge. You're nearly over the hump!

Of course she can do it. She's bounced back so many times. Sometimes just to get up there and try your darnedest is the key. Lets face it, if you succeed for 5 days or 7 days or 21 days just look at how much better you were than last time or think of what you might have done if you hadn't tried at all.

Hi everyone!
Shy, I have trouble getting enough protien too. I try to shoot for 30% of calories. Eat more beans! Great job reaching day 14! Entering the home stretch!
Well I have thought of 2 challenges to start with, that I should be able to do while I'm away. One is reduce coffee to 1 mug a day. I had herbal tea the other day and had a nasty headache by the end of the day.:headache: I don't like to be that chemically dependent! The other is crunches. And I'm going to throw in the no beer. We'll only be gone 6 days, I think I can get back home with 2 pauses allowed.
You guys are so right about being serious this time. I've already screwed up my pound a week goal BIG TIME. Oct has to be 2 pounds a week! Which is with in reach. I can do it! And the great feeling that comes with success! I need to feel it!

My weekend was busy. Instead of having to drive back to Yellowstone though, my husband was actually given 1 1/2 days off and drove home. It was so nice to NOT to have to drive back to the park. As much fun as Yellowstone can be, it's been getting a little old going back and forth. Anyway, having him come home was nice, but kept me busy with all his laundry, getting food ready to go back, etc..... I'll be back on track today!

Hi Apple! - Guess we all need to get serious together huh? I'm impressed that you're doing the coffee thing. I keep thinking about, but have not gotten up the nerve to do more than think about it. I love my coffee! Since I quit smoking, it's my last big vice, (other than a glass of wine in the evenings).

DJ- I can't say enough how I am SO proud of you for quitting the smoking! From what I hear, that's pretty tough to do. So yeah, keep up with the coffee!:coffee:
I think I'm going to waffle a little on the coffee challenge anyway. Instead of 1 cup, it's just going to be less than the usual 3 cups. I need space for a social cup if it comes up. Which it has. Well, one social cup yesterday, and one "I have half an hour to myself so I'm sitting down with a latte and a book". So there!:p
So challenges:
Less coffee: Day 1, 2 pauses left
Crunches :Day 1, 2 pauses left
No Beer: Restart :(

I did get to the gym today for the first ime in forever. It felt good.

Apple - Thanks. Yes, the quitting smoking was difficult, but I did it and am NOT going back. (Besides it helps me justify that coffee.) Actually they keep coming up with studies that show that coffee has some good qualities too! Enjoy that 1 or 2 cups a day!

Red - Good job on keeping up those challenges while busy! Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi there!

I definitely want to join in on this challenge! I feel like being accountable to someone other than myself will help keep me on track & God knows I can use all the support and advice I can get! So, here are my goals - please let me know if I'm doing/posting this wrong.

Day 1 (I guess technically tomorrow is day 1)

Challenge 1 -> Level 3 - Stick to my exercise plan (which means cardio at least 30 minutes 6 days a week) & Sculpting/Yoga or Pilates 6 days a week, so I'm basically doing about an hour workout 6 days a week.

Challenge 2 -> Level 2 - Maintain my food & exercise journal (meaning tracking everything I eat & do).

I'd like to add sticking to my meal plan as a challenge, but I think I'll wait until the next go 'round for that - since I just started it, I'm not sure of it yet - I'm not ready to set myself up for failure. My goal for that is just to simply learn the plan and be comfortable with it at this point. OH, by the way...I'm doing the Body for Life program :)

I also went grocery shopping. I'm working hard at learning and sticking to the diet part of this program.

Okay..I am going to make an attempt at this- hope I have the rules right.
3 challenges:
1. Eat at home or bring food with me from home- level 3
2. Exercise everyday- level 3
3. Crunches either at the gym or at home at night- starting with 10 and moving up 5 every 5 days. Level 3

Tomorrow is my start date- I am going to ace these challenges so watch out! :carrot:

Well, I was doing really well counting my calories and then got invited out to dinner last night with my kids and cannot find the calorie count for what I ate. Looked it up on the restaurants website and a couple of others and it's not there. Just one of those unexpected things I guess.

Hey! I'm new to this thread (been lurking for a little bit to see if I understood the challenge). I had been on a similar thread, so I'm a couple of days into my challenges...I think I understand them.

Water Challenge: drink 6 glasses of water daily

Exercise Challenge: Exercise for 30 minutes each day (walking my dog, using hip hop abs, or dancing)

Pushups Challenge: Do 30 pushups daily

I'm on day 3 right now (Because I started October 2nd) but I haven't completed any of my challenges for today yet. Will update this post later tonight with the challenges I have completed.

Exercise: completed, 3 pauses left

I'm proud of myself today, Tues/Thurs I go straight to class after work, so it's hard to fit in my exercise. I managed to get up and do my sculpting routine and took half my lunch for a brisk walk around the park. I guess when you want it, you just figure out how to do it!

Nikki- I count the pushups in rounds of 10. For some reason, it makes it easier to do them. :) Plus, I found this link http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/fitness/story.jhtml?storyid=/templatedata/fitness/story/data/1169222853191.xml that shows pushups to do that are really good for you. Maybe a bit down the line I'll add some of them into the mix. (they even have beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels). I'd like to add on 5 more like Crime Girl...just not sure if I'll stick with that as much as I'd like to. So I'll just consider any extra I do a bonus. :)

Shy: I think walking around the town could count instead of your video. Maybe just try to make sure you're walking at a good pace instead of wandering?

Shy, if your video is a walking video, fine, you can surely substitute outside walking for it. If not, take a pause. That's what they're there for. :)

I've seen these challenges in action, and it looks like it's time for me to jump on the wagon. I've taken my eye off the ball recently, and it's showing :o

So, we'll start easy:

Level One Challenge: 2 litres of water EVERY DAY
Level One Challenge: No chocolate/sweets/junk/lollies/chips etc etc etc
Level Three Challenge: Breakfast every day

So, maybe not so easy to start with :p I really hope I can stick to this.

I am new to this thread as well. I started one similar elsewhere, but didn't realize there was already one in place. Quiet and another woman (who only came twice) were part of it so Quiet showed me this place and I'd love to be part of a larger group.

Good Morning! I'm actually going to report for yesterday now since I couldn't get online last night.
So, here goes for day 3:
*Cardio/Sculpting - Friday is my day off (I work out 6 days a week) so nothing really to report there. (3 pauses left)
*Recording in my food diary - it was a struggle because I kept getting kicked offline, but I managed to get it in. (2 pauses left)

Quiet - thanks for the link, I found all kinds of cool stuff on that site!
Shy - Good job! I hope you have fun on your trip, it's great that you can get your workout/walking in while you're at it! Look at you - you're almost done with this challenge, yaaay!!!
Hi Elerine - Looks like you're off to a great start! I have to agree with Quiet, you're brave to cut out all the sweets. I've been managing to do it - but, I think you're right, keeping them out of the house is the key, 'out of sight, out of mind'! If it's there I know I'd be tempted!
Hi CrawlWalkRun - I was part of another thread as well, they report in weekly. I've only been doing this one for a few days, but it seems to work better for me. I need to feel accountable (to someone other than myself), so it helps keep me on track. I hope it works for you too!

Hi all. I'm afraid to say I'm starting all my challenges over. I am just too depressed these days to do anything. It's not good. :( I did it yesterday and so will call today Day 2. Everything I put in my mouth will be written down and I'll record my weight every day as well. Sorry for all the restarts. I'm trying hard. I really am. :^:

Ok, need to catch up here. Yesterday was day 10 on exercise with 2 pauses left but the calorie count, I'm going to have to start over on. It's been kinda crazy around here. I seem to have a 14 who is having complete melt downs and it's been absolutely horrible dealing with him. That of course has had me not caring about counting my calories or watching what I'm putting in my mouth. It hasn't helped that my husband is still working up in Yellowstone, so I have no other adult support with this kid. I think it has started to calm down for the time being though and my husband is actually making a trip home for 1 1/2 days to "talk" things out with my son. Maybe he can get through to him.

Red - Sorry to hear you're having it rough too! :hug: I hope you get to feeling better soon! Please stay with us though! It helps to get in here and post and we'd all love to hear from you.

Okay I blew it and am going to start over on the challenge. I ate out a bunch more after I pledged not to. SIGH! :o

OKay new challenge - not as difficult..
1. 64 fl ounces of water a day
2. Eating out no more than 2 times in the week (Mon- Sun)
3. Gym at least 4 times this week ( Mon- Sun)
4. 30 crunches at least 4 times a week.

Today is day 1 for counting calories. I've really got to get serious here once again. The stress here really has not stopped, but I've got to deal with things and not let my emotions make me eat.

Elerine, the dessert part can be fruit, sweet, sweet grapes or watermelon or cheese, not "nothing." I stayed off refined sugar for a year at a time, several times. You CAN do it! :yes:

Well it sure is good to be back! I would like to join the 21 day challenge. I have already committed to losing 5lbs by the end of the month. I will think it over and decide my challenge by thursday. That will give me 21 days til the end of the month.
My son thats out by you, will be home mid Nov. You are right, you should meet up. He still has another year there. I don't think he has enjoyed it as much as I did. Maybe his memories will grow fonder as he gets older.
My oldest son is in Everette, WA. I am going out to see him and his wife and my perfect grandbaby in January. I can't wait!:smug:

OK, I am ready to begin and just had to re-read the whole pause concept. I think I have it down. Some of my things are not daily, so the pauses will be necessary for a few.

I'm doing Bob Greene's phases in the Best Life Diet and will need to make my goal 4 weeks (28 days) instead of 21, as he suggests for his plan. I hope it's all right to do that because I want to follow his phases exactly and I can only weigh in every month at first (after 4 weeks) so it all coincides.

So, here's the first phase and the first things I'm committing to:

1.) 6 servings of water EVERY day (no pauses)
2.) 3 exercise sessions weekly with a total of 90-150 minutes (this means 4 pauses during a typical week)
3.) 3 meals & 1-2 snacks daily (no pauses)
4.) No eating two hours before bedtime (no pauses)
5.) No alcohol within the first phase (no pauses)
6.) Omega-3 supplement daily (no pauses)
7.) Multivitamin daily (no pauses)
8.) 500 mg. extra of calcium daily (no pauses)

I'll be back tomorrow morning with a full check-in.

I know I can't get the exercise in every day, but I do think I can get in some serious stretching. I feel that is really important for me. It is something I get very lazy about, even on days I do exercise. I know it will make me feel better which will hopefully make exercising easier. Maybe I will combine that with water and really get myself all squishy and bendy!

I think this may be it. Stretching and water. Just trying to decide if it's a serious enough challenge.

gramma - I know what you mean about the stretching. I had the hardest time with that one too! It took a long time for me to learn to enjoy it and even though I do now enjoy it, I sometimes find myself slacking off on it.
As far as whether or not your challenges are hard enough, if they're something you need to work on, then, they're probably a good challenge.

Eeep.....I know I haven't been posting on here. Fell off the bandwagon over these past few days. I'm going to have to start over with my challenges.

~still want to drink at least 6 glasses of water a day
~Alternating 30 pushups/30 crunches daily
(so Monday I'd do pushups, Tuesday crunches, etc)
~Exercising 30 minutes daily

I want to stick with the same goals because they shouldn't be so hard to stick to! *sigh*

We were in Utah last week and we had GREAT fall weather. It was cool, it even snowed one day. The trees are beautiful! Back home it is fall too, RAIN RAIN RAIN. I didn't get to take a walk today because it just wouldn't stop. If I didn't have to take my son along, I would have gone anyway.
As for challenges, I am on:

Crunches....Well I haven't been doing those at all. Restart!

Spent most of yesterday in my car so I took a pause on both challenges. Not sure today will be much better I'm afraid. My son and I are going on a horseback ride through Harriman Park up near Yellowstone this morning. I'll keep track of my food, but the exercise part we'll have to see about.

Gramma - My husband owns and operates a dump truck and they're doing a bunch of road work in Yellowstone. He's been up there about a month now and is supposedly coming home next week.

Apple - Glad to see you back! My exercise usually consists of a rotation of step aerobics, weights and yoga. I also try to walk as much as I can. I love to go hiking and this winter my friend and I are going to try cross country skiing which will be fun. I've gone down hill skiing before, but not cross country.

Sorry I can't talk more, gotta get ready to go on our horseback ride! :wave:

Well, we just got back from our trail ride and we had lots of fun! I sure miss riding. I think next year we're going to do the trail ride they have up in Grand Teton Park. The guide this morning was telling us about it and it sounds great too! Maybe for my birthday next year that's what I'll ask for.

Shy - Yea, guess I'll count todays riding as exercise. I'm just so used to counting exercise that makes me sweat, but I'll admit, I can feel some muscles complaining from the ride.

Apple & Red - You guessed it Apple. It's yellowstone falls. When I resized the pic so I could use it as an avatar, it made it blurry and I have not had time to fix it.

Hi all. Hope you don't mind me popping back in. I need to start some challenges again, and get my head back in the game.

Things have been crazy as usual. I sold my horse - actually, with the price I got for him, I gave him away. But he has a nice new home, with people who will actually do something with him and spend time with him. I still feel sad, like I abandoned a child, but I know it is better for him too.

I took the LSAT two weeks ago. In one week I should get the results. Then I will know if I did well enough to even apply for law school. Law school. At my age??? :fr: I am even trying to switch to the legal department at work. It is kind of career suicide if I don't get accepted into law school, but I am getting very fried with supervising people, and need a change.

I went on a cruise a month ago. It was a blast. Unbelievable. I can't wait until next year when I do it again.

My exercise has been sporadic, and my eating has been awful. I have to go shopping for a few larger clothes tomorrow, as nothing warmer fits. This sucks. But I am going to get back in here, get the support I need, and pick challenges to start so that I make healthy choices again.

I am glad to see Shad, Apple, DJ, and of course RED, and can't wait to meet all of the rest of you. :wave:

My 'official' weigh in was this morning & I'd lost another pound in a half since last weeks weigh in - so, I'm up to 8 pounds. I'm a little frustrated because I'm really doing well in sticking with my plan and working out, I expected to see more of a weight change, but that dang scale is fighting me for every ounce! However, I have lost inches and am seeing a change in my clothes - my brand new jeans that were tight two weeks ago are already getting lose, so I guess stuff is just moving around? I'm not sure how to make the scale work for me, I'll just keep charging on - eventually it'll give in, I'm sure of it! I have a week's break in between classes (yaay!) & I'm not on call, so this week shouldn't be quite as stressful for me. Next week classes start up again & I'll be starting a bellydancing class (woohoo!).

Quiet Ballerina - I think I missed something, did you start over or add a new challenge? I love Dancing With the Stars! I'm not usually home to watch it though - I saw something on it over the weekend, Marie Osmond & Jane Seymore are in it this go around, right? They looked great! I would love to do something like that...maybe I should take up dancing classes (in all that spare time I have!)

Djstorey - I was in Yellowstone a few summers ago on a 4H trip, I was chaperoning a bunch of teenagers (ahh, what an experience that was). Most of the kids from here in Florida had never seen snow, when we got to Yellowstone - it was actually snowing (flurries) and there was still snow on the ground in June! I hope you get to see your hubbie soon. Hey, you know they have workouts now that simulate horseback riding to strengthen the core, so I guess horseback riding can be considered a workout! I've only been on a horse once as a child - it's actually one of my rewards! There's a local place here where you can ride on the beach - but there's a weight limit, which I've finally reached!

Ok, had a pause on the day we went horseback riding.

Nikki - Never heard of a workout video for horseback riding! It is kind of a workout though I guess. I did feel a little bit of muscle soreness, but it wasn't much. It was fun though and I did count it as my exercise that day.
Yes, we do get snow in Yellowstone and where we live too in June sometimes. Even had snow in July before! We just had our first snow storm in fact just 1 1/2 weeks ago, which is awful darn early! I think I live in the wrong state, I love summer and all this cold here is tough.
Good job on that weight loss! I'm using you as inspiration to get myself losing again.

Apple - I agree, I have a hard time keeping up with everyone now. But, that's ok! I'm just glad to see so many here.

Jolly - So glad to have you back! I hear you on those pants, I've gotten myself close to that point too, but hoping to reverse the trend now.

Well, today I managed to make it through the huge bowl of Halloween candy right outside of my office and a Birthday Party (I took my own protein bar in lieu of cake). I found out that my ex is falling apart without me! Ok - yes, I may be evil, but I can't help derive a little bit of satisfaction from that! :devil: In celebration, I bought myself a new pair of red high heels!! :yay: Now, I'm going home and doing some more cardio! I'm replacing the count calorie challenge and replacing it with an actual calorie limit. It's time! I'm actually going to cycle the calories which is hard to state for a challenge, so I'm going to say that my calories can be no higher than 2000 a day since that will be my high calorie limit. My goal is to average 1800 for now. I know that sounds kinda high, but considering the fact that I've been eating a lot more than that lately, I think it will work for a starting point.

Red - :cp: You're more than halfway now!

Gramma - Sorry to hear it's been rough! Now, just get back on track. :coach:

Jolly - I don't consider what you're doing small! Anything that gets you going again is a big step in the right direction.

Well, I found out the bellydance class I want to take doesn't start next week, but the following week - I'm just a tad bummed, but at least I'm still able to get in! I also found all kinds of other classes offered through the community education program at this local high school. So, I think I'm going to take Salsa lessons too! (Quiet Ballerina - you got me thinking that with Dances with the stars). They even have golf & tennis for beginners - so, I'm considering one or the other - since they are on the weekend I think I can manage at least one of them.
Ok, so the evil with my ex died down. I went to see him in the hospital. He'd broken his foot, it became infected & he has been in there for a few days (he's ok now). I ALMOST feel guilty for being evil..but, not quite! If he hadn't been so mean to me when we broke up 6 weeks ago, it'd be different. Oh well...life goes on!
I'm busy planning a Halloween party too! This will be our (me & my roommate's) 2nd annual party...if anyone's close to St. Augustine, FL. - you're welcome to come! It's a costume party, I'm going to be Little Bo Peep! Last year, I was the Devil, I had a mishap with my outfit & a little too much to drink & ended up flashing half the people at the party (it was an accident, I swear!)...so, this year -part of my costume is ruffled panties, just in case any flashing goes on - I'll be prepared!

Apple Blossom - Thanks for the encouragement, I know you're right. I'm actually going into my 4th week now, so I should be happy with 8 pounds, I'm just used to dropping a lot up front. But that's ok, I'm showing progress despite the skinkin' scale, so I'm ok with it! I can totally relate to buying bigger clothes too - my closet has a few different sizes in there right now.

Djstorey - You know, I saw the horseback riding simulation workout 'thing' in the SkyMall magazine when I was flying home from D.C. a few weeks ago. There are actually a couple of different brands! There is a seat sort of thing with what looks like a saddle and apparently it moves around, the goal is to stay upright (I guess) & this works your core. I have no clue if it works, but it makes sense at least...hmmm, I guess it's kind of like a restrained mechanical bull! Hey - now there's an idea for a workout! LOL

Gramma - I'm up a pound too! I'm not stressing over it, actually that's what I get for looking before I'm due to actually weigh in! Just keep going, don't let it mess with your head! :hug:

Nikki- those dance classes sound like so much fun! I wish I had the time to do some myself. That horse thing sounds funny. I bet it costs $$$. And great job resisting candy AND cake. (we call that food porn around here to protect ourselves from develping cravings) I have a birthday party coming up on Sat and I'm not even going to TRY to resist, I'll just make it small.
DJ- I'm going to try calorie cycling too, but for the first week I'm keeping it low, just to get started.

OK. You all have to laugh with me. I didn't do a lot of abs, because, well, my dog decided to help me. Please get a mental picture of a very overweight woman, balancing on a ball to do crunches. First, her trusty Springer tries pushing the ball with her front paws. That didn't get her the result she wanted, so she jumped up and landed right on my stomach - balancing on top of me balancing on the ball. Ringling Brothers has got nothing on us. :rofl:

Nikki, I am jealous of the dance classes. I watch Dancing with the Stars too. I love it, even though there really isn't anyone I am rooting for this year. Not like last year. I wish I could dance. I have two left feet. Unless I have been drinking, then I have three but it no longer matters :D

I've got 12 days behind me writing my mouth intake (what goes in my mouth...hereafter referred to as MI) down.... :lol: It hasn't been pretty, not at all, and just writing it down and reviewing it makes me gasp and feel faint. :faint: Still, I'm not gasping enough to do something about it but I feel a tingle of movement in that direction. Maybe. I'm still in the dock just writing things down. Next comes taxiing phase, where I start calculating just what kind of numbers are involved in that MI... :eek: and then it'll be time for takeoff, when I actually put a limit on that number. Yikes. But, heh, how'm I supposed to get enough altitude to start cruising if I'm forever dawdling around the airport. Get this baby in the air! ...... but, for now, I'm in, shall we say, anticipation stage. Sigh.

DJ-I remeber that mechanical bull thing! I saw it in Jusco dept. store when I lived in Japan. My husband and I came up with all kinds of intersing ideas of what it could possibly be used for. We saw it on display, but couldn't read any of the advrtisement, so we just speculated. LOL We eventually asked a japanese friend about it. I thought the ideas that we came up with sounded much more fun. :devil:

Jollygirl - my dog can't stand it when I'm working out, especially anything on the floor - she thinks I'm there to play with her, so any kind of crunches or floor work also involve big wet doggie kisses! :p

Red - Aww, shucks, thanks! LOL After the breakup - there wasn't an option to be nice...we just refused to speak to one another. It's been one of the hardest things I've ever done! Seeing him at the hospital the other night was the first time I'd seen him since our breakup. Had he not been in the hospital - with what I thought at the time was a much more serious situation, I wouldn't have gone to see him. This is the second time we have split, so I wasn't quite as devastated - but when the man you think you're going to marry breaks up with you out of the blue...it's tough! oh & trust me, the weight is there - it's just well hidden in the avatar picture!

Gramma - I LOVE St. Augustine too! I've lived here for a few years, lived in Jacksonville prior to that & Virginia before that. I don't want to go back north. I love the Florida weather (well, the hurricanes are an exception)! The red high heels? LOL I wore them to the hospital when I went to visit my ex...he even commented on them!

OHHH - did I tell you guys I won a 3 day cruise? Well, as it turns out...way back when my ex (Mark) & I were talking marriage, we were online looking at all this wedding 'stuff' - I somehow ended up entered into a contest and won a cruise! It was kind of fun (and yes, again a little evil) to tell him I won the cruise and was taking someone else! Of course...I have to lose 37 more pounds before I'll allow myself to go!

Ok, a quick one this morning. My husband is finally home after being in Yellowstone for over a month and I've got a lot of work to do! The camp trailer is a mess and the laundry is amazing! Tomorrow we have to make a run back up there to pick up the dump truck too. He just brought home the pickup and trailer this morning. Hopefully the snow will be cleared from the roads by the time we head up the hill. We're supposed to have storms all week long and need to get the truck out of the park before they close the gates here on the west side.

Gramma:Calorie cycling is when you alternate low calorie days with high ones. Well, not high, but normal. This way your body doesn't mess with your metabolism and the weight is easier to lose. In theory. I'm no expert, I've never tried it.

I had a crummy day at work, and was driving home debating between going to the gym as planned, or stopping of for some shoe shopping. After much debate (trying to find my inner Jillian, and imagining my dismay if I had to take a pause on DAY 2!!!!), I made it to the gym. Hurray!

Red, you always motivate. You rock. Nikki, evil is good. Plus, I like the goals and rewards you have listed. I need to spend time doing that again. Though, the big reward is the friend I went on my cruise with and I are seeing who can get closest to goal before next year's cruise. The winner gets snorkeling paid for by the loser.

Everyone else, Sorry for the fly by, but good to see you and keep up the fight!

djstorey: snow? I'm a little jealous. :( It doesn't snow here though. Too humid and not cold enough (here is Louisiana).

Apple: sometimes it helps to have a water bottle with you during the day...it can encourage you to drink water instead of going for soda. I'm sure you've heard of those crystal light packets that you add to water? I don't like the flavor to be really strong, so I'll add one packet to three or four servings of water.

Shy: What a fun day planned! :( Not very close to me though (ha, understatement). That's my sister's birthday too... so I'll probably be eating badly....lol

So...I recently got hardwood floor put down in my bedroom (I used to have carpet) and it's harder on my knees/back when I do my crunches and pushups. Can anyone recommend a good yoga mat? Preferably one that isn't too expensive.

Thanks guys, I'm glad my husband is home too. Although it might be temporary. We're looking at a possible job in Boise in the winter which is even further away! If he does take it, we'll be looking at a 6 hour drive one way so we won't see each other much. The good news is that if he does do the job, the business will be set for money until next spring when local work starts up again.

Quiet - I'm jealous of you! I hate hate hate the cold! Winter and snow is ok in small doses up until Christmas, then I've had enough! By the way, I have a Hugger Mugger xtra thick yoga mat that I like. I got it from amazon.

Shy - Would love to join you, but Idaho is far away from everything! Have fun though.

Real quick mini save. I was craving a particular ethnic food porn for lunch. Bad. But, I knew I was having much for dinner, and had already made bad food choices for the day, so made one less, and stuck with what I brought with me.

But I just try not to think about it at all. Just pretend I can't feel. Hope the business works out for you. And, thanks for the encouragement. I think the tracking is working subtle good things into my eating habits. I've been more careful about eating some healthful food lately and I have not been pigging.

Yep, gotta admit it, didn't make yesterday work. The whole Yellowstone trip took longer than expected and we ended up eating out for 2 meals! I made decent choices each time, but it was still more calories than expected. Not by much, but enough to blow today's challenge. As far as the exercise? Well, by the time we got home, unloaded, took care of kids, etc.....it just didn't happen. So, today is day 1 of my new exercise challenge.

I got my Halloween costume last night (little bo peep)! It's SO cute and doesn't actually look bad on me. I'll have to take a picture for you guys!
So, last night I was looking through some old journals and came across one from 2 years ago. I forgot that I even had this...anyway, 2 years ago - I was 40 pounds heavier than I am now! I guess I've slowly been doing something right along the way. I suppose since it's been over a period of time and I hadn't been trying very hard, I never thought much about it.

Wow - you guys are hard to keep up with sometimes, but I'm trying!

Quiet Ballerina - You know what, I got the idea for prizes from the Body for Life book, the guy who wrote it bought himself a Lamborghini when he met his goals. I figure it's going to take me a while to get rid of 80+ pounds, so I give myself awards along the way. I also have a problem (unless it's shoes) spending much money on myself, so this is a good excuse for me to do something for me (besides getting healthy). AND - it's a lot of fun, exciting things that I keep putting off because of my weight. I guess I'm to the point now where I don't want my weight to be an excuse for anything anymore. Now...if I can just find someone to pay for all this stuff! LOL

Jollygirl - I've never been snorkeling, I LOVE the water...it's just something I haven't done yet, but I will. One of my rewards is SCUBA lessons, so I hope when I go on the cruise I'll be able to work that in. OMG - I know how tempting shoe shopping is, I'm addicted myself! Good for you for getting past to the gym!

Djstorey - Did you find out about the job in Boise yet? I don't know how you guys manage that, I think it would make me crazy! Are you stuck in the snow? I didn't make it to the beach - but, I have a good reason! My ex (not Mark, the ex before him) & I have been seeing each other. We're better friends now than we were when we were actually dating before. Funny how that works. Anyway (sorry for rambling), he came over to do some 'handyman' stuff for me. We had dinner, watched a movie...it's nice to have good male friends, especially when you know exactly where you stand and there's no expectations :) Did you figure out a way to exercise yesterday?

I got my LSAT scores. Didn't tank, but I don't think I did well enough. I am friends with an attorney at work, and she still thinks I will, but I need to think about it :(

Hey all. Just need to write a bit. Those who have seen me in before know I have talked about how I struggle with never feeling quite good enough. Goes back to a childhood incident, but that I always feel like I have to be perfect, as the only way to make sure I am "good enough" and therefore ok. I am struggling right now. I want to get into law school. I knew my undergrad grads from 12 years ago were not great, and quite a bit below the average the schools accept. I was hoping my LSAT score would rock to balance it out. Now I am sitting here with both scores below the average. My friend says due to my age and work experiences that I am what law schools are looking for, despite the scores. I am looking at it by the numbers, and not only am I far from "perfect" I am below average. Who would possibly want me? That is the overriding voice I am hearing right now. "Not good enough, not wanted." Though there is a small voice saying "If you want it, go for it, and convince them you ARE what they are looking for." I just don't know what to do.

Sorry to ramble so long on stuff that isn't relevant. I just needed to put down what i was feeling (before I stuffed it down with food), and maybe get some words of wisdom.

Avoiding the scale - I screwed this one up! 1 pause down - 2 left! This is hard for me, it's like an automatic response when I get up in the morning!

I went to the mall & had my hair done yesterday. It's now about 3 inches shorter (rests just below my shoulders) & is dark auburn. I like it, I needed a change! Being at the mall was a challenge! I had to walk through the food court to get to my destination. :whoo: Uggh. I came close to stopping and getting food. I actually went from place to place looking for something I could eat before I finally gave up and left! Auntie Anne's pretzels (which are one of my fav's) almost got me!!
My workouts seem to be easy to me now, so I think I'm going to switch it up a bit. My roommate has Yoga Booty Ballet, so I'm considering that or Kathy Smith's: Project You. I'll be looking at both today.
I FINALLY got internet access back at home (woohoo!), which is why I'm actually able to check in today! School starts up again this week, I've got a grant writing & ethics class this go around. Hopefully neither will be too difficult!

You have more to offer than just numbers on a paper, you just have to decide if it's really what you want and fight for it. Day 5 - workout. I was up most of last night with acid reflux, and was at my folks today for birthday. I am so exhausted and still breathing funny from last night, so I did not work out. Will get back to it tomorrow.

Hey all. :wave: Just keeping up on my challenge. Day 15 is done. Things aren't much better with the overeating, although I have started to tally the calories. It's not yet part of my challenges, but will be soon. I just have to make more time for myself. I HAVE started to cut back on coffee and am hoping that will help the fatigue and rashes I have all over my body. Anyhow, hope you're all moving along and gaining some good habits, or at least the beginnings of some, from your challenges. Later!

Jollygirl: aww! poor thing. After we got my dog neutered, he became horribly afraid of thunderstorms. Now everytime it rains here, he hides in this pile of rags we have in the laundry room (and sometimes accidentally closes the door in the process, trapping himself inside). Poor little guy.

Red: I'm not a huge coffee drinker so I might not be much help, but just try to slowly cut back. If you normally drink 4 cups a day (just making up a number here) cut it down to 3 and a half. Stick with that for a few days, then cut it down to 3 cups for a few days. keep at it until you're drinking the amount you want to be drinking.

Nikki: Hope you get the items you need for your costume in time. I'm feeling a little bit better today, but it's frustrating because I wanted to get some stuff done on my day off, and I spent most of it resting instead.

On a better note: I refused to have to take another pause so early in the game on this challenge, so I forced myself to do my workout and pushups. I'm excited cause I finally got my hip hop abs DVD yesterday, and I tried out the 'Fat burning cardio' portion of it today. I might have looked like a spaz doing it, but it was fun and I feel like it was doing something. :)

Scale Avoidance - It's actually my weigh in day, so I got a freebie! I lost 3.5 pounds last week! Woohoo!

It's gloomy & humid here this morning. Yuk! I really didn't want to get out of bed, let alone workout. My body is SORE from the double workouts I did over the weekend. So, I'm just doing cardio today. I think I'm going to do Yoga Booty Ballet, but I'm starting it with my new challenge (Wednesday). I'm not sure yet though - haven't been able to watch Kathy Smith's Project You yet to see what kind of a workout that is. I like Kathy Smith a lot, so I could very well switch it over. I've been mopey the past couple of days, maybe I'm pms'ing? I was thinking a lot about my ex (Mark) & actually had a missed call from him last night. Then he sent me a friend request on myspace. Hmm...not sure what he's up to! But, now I'm thinking a lot about winning a million dollars - if it worked on Mark, maybe it'll work with money too! LOL

I am going to have to use a pause day for under 2000 calories since I am at 1740 and still need to eat dinner, but we'll see

So I was on my way to the vending machine, had stuck the money in and was about to select my usual treat when I thought hey....something isn't right. I remembered i had joined the challenge and I was going to have to post here that I didn't do so well early on. So I pushed the change button and walked away. :carrot:

I still want something, but I think it is just a a habit and I am not going to give in. I am off to suck down some water.

Shy Moment - I know! I can't believe my first challenge is almost over - yaaay!! I have to make it more difficult this time...though, I have to admit the scale avoidance will be hard! Yeah, and I'm a little nervous about the ex, it's too early for me to be friends with him...not sure what game he's playing, but I guess I opened myself up for it by visiting him in the hospital...of course I thought he was A LOT worse off. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Djstorey - I'm gonna look at the Kathy Smith program tonight so I can make a decision on which one I want to start Wednesday. We have YBB & Kathy Smith - somewhere we have Turbo Jam too, which is what I wanted to start, but I can't seem to find it...that's ok, I have plenty of time and plenty to lose - I'll come across it eventually! I'm a believer in changing up your exercise routine so you don't get bored & your muscles don't get used to it and send you into plateau.

Quiet Ballerina - I'm glad you're feeling better. I know I'm probably preaching to the choir, but be careful not to push yourself too hard while your sick. ;)

redballoon - I'm sorry you're still having a hard time. I think tracking my food is like second nature to me now. I use fitday.com & since I've been using it for a while, I really like being able to go back into my history and see the reports that show my progress. I guess I'm a visual person - anything like that helps motivate me along. If you haven't tried it, maybe you should consider it - it's free :)

Nikki - Yeah, I believe in changing up the exercise too. My biggest problem is that I have one favorite, stepping, that I do too often. I've been looking at making some changes, just have not found exactly what I want to do!
I agree with Shy about your ex. Make sure you remember WHY you broke up before you find yourself going back.

Shy - Yeah, I'm probably my toughest critic. I think one of the reasons why I'm so tough on myself is that I already lost so much weight. My ticker doesn't tell you the whole story. I lost 90 pounds and gained back 15! It's very frustrating knowing that I can and have done this before and here I am, fighting it!

This morning my roommate decided she's going to start do YBB, the plan I was going to start...which would be fine if we didn't workout at the same time (there's just not enough room for both of us to do it together). Work is BUSY! Did I tell you guys I work at the Red Cross? We're recruiting a ton of folks to go to California to support the fire response going on in San Diego. SO...I've gotta get back to it!

Day 3 (used one pause day)-No eating out for lunch at work 3 pause days/2 left.
Day 4 No vending machine at work no pause days.
Day 3 (used one pause day) Under 2000 Calories 2 pause days. 1 left

I ate well yesterday but by the time I got home and ate dinner I was over the 2000 mark so using a pause day and I went out to lunch with my girlfriend today which we do once a week or so which is why built in the pause days. Everything else is on track.


After all the turmoil from yesterday I did better planning so the D :censored: and vending machine don't seem to be a temptation.

Quiet - If you like dancing, then you'll probably like turbo jam. It's very popular! However, if you have knee problems be careful. I can do tj, but have to be extra cautious about the moves or my knee hurts. Personally, I prefer less dancy stuff and only did my tj workouts a few times and have never gone back. I just prefer the more athletic type workouts I guess.

Good job on the challenges!

Well, my knee has been bothering me a lot lately, but I love my step aerobics and kept going anyway. Probably wasn't the smartest idea, but, I really do enjoy my workouts and I always have that fear that if I take a break, that I'll lose the "habit" of working out! Finally though, I have decided I need to let my knee heal and talked my husband into letting me buy a stationary bike. Ended up coming home with a spinning bike. Now, I can keep working out, but give my knee a break since bikes cause less knee strain. Hopefully I can be back on my step in time.

Gramma - Glad to see you get going again. Sometimes 1 challenge is plenty!

Honestly, I'm not sure what else to add to this right now. Since I'm switching up programs I'm not sure exactly what the challenges will be...so, I'm reserving the right to modify this if necessary!

Day - Scale Avoidance
Well, I had to use one of my 2 pauses left because I'm starting a new program & part of it is weighing/measuring all over. So, I'm down to 1 pause on this.

My life is really chaotic right now. Work is insanely busy, as you can imagine. I've sent about 20 volunteers to San Diego, which probably doesn't sound like much, but it takes a lot of work to coordinate all this & do my regular stuff as well. I found out last night my cousin isn't doing very well. He was accidentally shot a few weeks ago. Because it hit near his spine, they were afraid it affected his nervous system and not sure if he would walk again. Yesterday he was taken back to the hospital, I don't know all the details but his kidneys were failing. They had him in surgery to remove his legs, not sure if he'd make it through the surgery. He did, now they aren't sure if he'll make it through the next few days. I'm so stunned by all this and I've been too busy to really think about it, it really doesn't make much sense to me. I know when I leave and have a few minutes to myself I'm going to fall apart. I'm sorry, I don't have time to write more right now. I hope you're all doing well. I'll write more when I get time...

Hey ya'll! I'm a brand new memeber and just ran across this challenge. Next week I am starting WW's at work, but I've been dieting on my own for about a month. I have also been walking most days for the last month. I know this is late in the challenge, but I'm going to try to walk 2 miles every day for the next 21 days. Only problem is I have class on Tuesday nights - 4 hours after work, so I have absolutely no time to excercise. So does that make me a level 3? With 3 pauses? Great site and all of you guys are amazing!!

:welcome3: beachlvr! Glad to have you here. I would just declare a level 3 myself. I usually workout 6 days a week and just count the 1 day off as a pause, or I'll try to do something little and quick to count as exercise to save a pause. Whatever works for you. Good luck with your challenge!

Hey Guys - just a quick check in and I'm off to bed. I'm beat! Work is still insane & one of my volunteers in CA has gone missing (I'm hoping it's just a miscommunication), had class tonight, I did manage to get signed up for the dance classes and tennis class today. I haven't heard anything back about my cousin, as of this morning things were the same. My Mom sent me an email about an Aunt that has been diagnosed with cancer. I think I'm going to hide in a cave for a while. Oh - and nothing from the ex, don't know exactly what he was doing, but he's not made any other 'moves' - which right now is probably a good thing. Thanks for your support guys. I've actually been on and off the site a few times today, but haven't had time to write - but, I appreciate all the support.

It's the end of Day 20. I will call them both good, yesterday and today, though yesterday was kind of a blur at the end because of yet another farewell party. Too many people leaving. :(
I just keep gaining weight. Too much eating. Too much drinking. It's so depressing. I am going to try to make a comeback in November, however, really turn things around again.
I'm wondering if I shouldn't stop just focusing on my weight, but focus on changing my life instead, changing my everyday routine, whether it's with eating or exercise or whatever. My life is in a total rut! :mad:
Ok, here's the plan. In addition to some food diary and possible calorie computation... :^: I am thinking perhaps what I need to do is DO SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY. It can be small. It can be cleaning or reading a different paper or simply writing to a different person than I normally do. But I will do something different or new from my normal routine. Oh! Day 4 of challenge met! I walked this morning, althought it was a little uncomfortable. The bottom of my feet are getting very irritated. I have good supportive shoes, and I've been doing this over a month. Can you get calluses on your feet from walking? And no, it's not athletes foot! :)

It'll be another challenging day. My Granddaddy's 90th birthday! Lots of cake and ice cream! Then the GA-FL game. Ohhh the GA-FL game!! :crossed:

Well, took my last pause yesterday on the calories. The day just never seemed to slow down! The good news was that I did get all my stuff done yesterday. Wasn't sure I'd pull it off.

Jolly - Yeah, I'm pretty good at finding time for myself. I get early and enjoy the quiet before the 3 kids get up and I'll sit and have a cup of tea at night when my little one goes down for the night. I so look forward to those moments!

Shy - It can be hard to get in all food groups sometimes, however, serving sizes are usually smaller than people realize so make sure you know the recommended sizes. I get in my grains through my whole grain breakfast cereals usually such as kashi or oatmeal. I will spinkle whole oats on yogurt and I also use whole grain/high fiber crackers for a snack. Those couple of things added to some kind of grain at lunch or dinner gives me plenty.

Nikki - Despite the stress, you're doing great keeping up with us and your challenges!

Quiet - Hope things are going better for you!

sorry I haven't posted in a while, went away for the weekend so for the good news and the bad news

Day 7-So No D's, no pause days. (i just can't be trusted)
Day 6 (used one pause day)-No eating out for lunch at work 3 pause days/1 left.
Day 7 No vending machine at work no pause days.


I was able to stick to everything except the eating out for lunch, but I am ok with that. I'm broke this week so less of a threat and i am broke because I used my debit card to buy food and just went a lil crazy so.....

day 1 No buying food with my debit card except grocery shopping no pause days

The calorie thing was blown out of the water so have to restart that one and changing it to give me a little more wiggle room

Busy - Busy!! I have a feeling I'm not gonna have time to post much until the weekend with all that's going on. My cousin sorta came to for a bit yesterday - but had no clue his legs were gone, they re-sedated him. I don't know how long that's going to last. I was told that if he recovers, he'll be in the hospital at least a month! No news on my Aunt. Keep praying guys! I had my first salsa lesson last night - lots of fun! Of course, I look like an Amazon compared to everyone else - that won't get better once I start wearing heels! I'm not THAT tall, everyone else is just short! I hope you guys are all doing well - I'm sorry I don't have more time to catch up with you, but I am thinking of you all!!

I promised some pics from the Halloween Party, there are 2 of me alone, 1 with me & Russ (the ex twice removed that I've been hanging with) & another of Russ alone - I couldn't resist, he looks really good! BTW - he's lost 70 lbs in the past year!! I think I've talked him into being my coach...more on that later!

Maybe I need to be happy with accomplishing my challenge on my days off. Then I won't be setting myself up for failure. I will think it over.

Hey all. To all of you dealing with the stuffy head aching sniffling sneezes - I am with you. My summertime allergies are getting ready to switch to my winter cold. It never ends. If only I had bought stock in Benadryl.

I went to the Y and did a cardio fusion class tonight with a co-worker. Butt kicking! Now, if only I can remember next week that this was supposed to be an EXTRA workout, not my only workout.

Day 17: daily posts, daily abs at home (I did a quick set despite the evening workout class), and daily food journal.

Day 14: daily workout

I need to get moving on my applications. My boss shared with me the letter of recommendation she is submitting for my law school applications. I was very touched. It is hard for me to come up with positive stuff about myself, and what she wrote was awesome.

Hi All!
7th day of walking two miles. I had to take a pause Sunday because the blisters on my feet were so bad. But Monday I sucked it up, slapped some Baind-Aid blister cushions on my puppies, and got back to it. Can't believe I'm 1/3 the way through! Oh, and I lost 3 lbs this week!! woo hoo!!

My cousin came to again for a bit yesterday and was told everything that was going on. He's has an amazing attitude and unfaltering faith...just taking it a day at a time. We're all still praying and hoping things get better. It seems like they are, he may even regain use of his kidneys in the future.

Good Morning! I have a little bit of time this morning to catch up, woohoo! This week I have been doing the Kathy Smith: Project You workout, while I'm waiting for Turbo Jam to arrive. I've always liked Kathy Smith & it's pretty much what I expected. The cardio is a good workout, not super challenging - but it gets your heart rate up and keeps you moving. The pilates segment was tough & yoga was really good. I mentioned earlier that I have a coach now. Well, here's how it works - when I got TJ, Beach Body (they are the company that puts out TJ, Kathy Smith's workouts, Yoga Booty Ballet…) has a site with support (coaches), info and forums that you can join - so, I worked it out that my friend (Russ - the Spartan) is now my coach! It's not much different than what it was before, because he was already helping me - I'm just more involved in the community and take part in what they call WOWY (work out with you) - which means you log in when you're working out & so do other people that are working out at the same time. You can see who else is dragging their butts out of bed at 6am - it does kind of help motivate you when you see all these other people doing it too. Ok, moving on (aren't you glad I don't always have time to write like this!)...I've been struggling with my diet. I don't mean that I've been eating wrong - I'm sticking to the plan, but I've been waking up in the middle of the night hungry. I'm good - I don't do the midnight munchy thing...but, I've gotta figure out how to work around that. No news on my cousin or Aunt today. School is going well, I have interesting classes right now, Ethics & Grant Writing. Oh & for the inquiring mind, I never did hear back from the ex (Mark), which is probably for the best!

Beachluvr79 – Sorry I haven’t properly welcomed you! I’m glad to see you here, it looks like you’re doing well on your challenges! I can SO relate to you on school…it’s taken me way too long to get back & finish up, I have a year and a half left at the end of this semester. :book2:

I haven’t even begun to look at sodium yet…I started tracking it on fitday, but since I’ve never really had a problem with adding in salt or high blood pressure, I figured I’d tackle the obvious first and move my way down the list. Another day done! I talked myself into doing yoga today and find myself actually feeling guilty. I told myself I was going to add yoga in 1 day each week, but I'm so used to workouts that get my heart rate up and burning lots of calories that when I do yoga, it doesn't seem like I'm doing enough. I do really need to work on my flexibility though, so I'm going to keep talking myself into doing it at least once a week.

Shy - I like that, "The Rennie Plan". Guess I kind of have my own plan too. Borrowed an idea from here and there and turned it into my plan. I do agree with you on that whole sodium thing. It's very hard to keep the levels down! I count my calories on fitday and am always surprised at my sodium intake. Luckily my blood pressure is really good so I haven't worried too much.

Nikki - Glad to hear things are going a little better for you! So you got the Kathy Smith Project You. What do you really think? I do like intense workouts though, so I'm not sure about that part. Let me know when you have time.

Hey all. Shy and Nikki - I KNOW I need to kick the sodium habit too. However, I also figured I would worry about the overeating, stress eating, junk eating first. Give myself the salt as a weakness and tackle that last.

I thought i was going to have to restart my daily workout challenge. I just wasn't feeling it this morning. I was supposed to work a second shift tonight at one of my programs, so came home to take care of the dogs. I decided to grab my gym bag, in case I got out of work early. Ended up they didn't need me, so I did go to the gym. I didn't work out very hard, I'll admit, but i went.

So, Day 19 - daily logging, daily posting, daily abs
Day 16 - daily workouts.

I'm going a little crazy here, I sat outside on Halloween night - not using my brain apparently & my legs got eaten up by mosquitos - looks like they had a buffett! Ughh. I did another closet sweep yesterday and was able to get into more clothes that didn't fit me 2 weeks ago! Yaaay!! Thank Goodness last year my sister and Mom lost weight and passed some of their clothes onto me, or I'd be out of luck!

Djstorey - Yeah, I like the Kathy Smith stuff. I've always liked Kathy Smith because she takes a lot of time explaining how to properly do the moves. But, once I get them down and do the video a few times, I get bored. I think TJ & Yoga Booty Ballet are a little more high energy and fun - which is what I like. So, I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Her pilates segment was tough and I'll probably work it into my rotation even when I switch over to TJ. I have to laugh at you about Yoga - I feel guilty about it too. Today I worked out for 45 minutes and then did another 30 minutes of yoga. I actually really like yoga and I'm constantly worried about injuries (bad knees) and pulled muscles that I try to work it in at least a couple times a week.

Jolly & Shy - Yeah, I think it's time that I start paying attention to sodium as well. Hopefully, now that I have a coach - he can help me with that. Actually, I'm going to need help with my whole diet. Last night was good, I didn't wake up hungry - I think it's because I made some dietary changes...I just hope he can help me figure out what I need to do!

Quiet - I hope you're feeling better today. You know I hadn't thought much about the holidays. I think getting through them while you're trying to lose weight is a challenge in and of itself!

Halloween craziness (I have 3 kids!) kind of threw me off track. I was doing pretty well to. Rats. But I'm back, and here we go again!

I think thats all for now. I want to do South Beach phase 1, but I have lots of food that would go stale or rotten if I don't eat it. I will limit carbs, especially sugar, and kick up the protien. And eat less in general. I now have 2 months until Hawaii and that is not a lot of time to reach my goal. Especially with the holidays.. oh please, let something click....

Apple - Glad you're back!! I couldn't do the SB diet, apparently I'm not good with reducing my carbs that much. I have issues with low blood sugar and I passed out on day 3 of the diet. So much for that one! Don't give up though, you'll find a way to make it work!

Hey ladies, sorry I haven't checked-in in a while. I fell off the wagon with all my challenges completely, so rather than start over I looked at WHY I feel off, made some changes, so far so good. A BIG PART of my problem was not having food at home. I hadn't made time to go grocery shopping.....So I finally went, and I am back to packing my lunch, so the vending machine, :censored:'s and staying under the 2000 calorie limit has been ok. Since I'm packing my food again, I am also not buying as much food as before.

I hope everyone is doing well today. About this time of the day I feel a little sluggish...I'd like to take a nap every day after lunch! I went to the mall & Sports Authority looking for some aerobic/dance shoes. I want something light that I can actually move around in. I have big feet anyway and the shoes I have seem to enhance that and I keep tripping over my own feet when I'm working out. I couldn't find what I was looking for so I had to order them online. BUT, I was able to get some workout clothes that were on sale in a size smaller & they fit! Woohoo!! :)

I've finally worked through all of the pieces to it. I have to tell you the Upper & Lower body workouts are TOUGH! I'm definitely going to keep those mixed in with my workout, even when I start Turbo Jam. I can't stand it that I'm not able to actually do everything & on some things I have to do the easy version...I just can't have that!! LOL I've gotta be able to get through the challenging version before I move on!

Shy - You go girl! I can barely keep up with what I have!! :dizzy:

jollygirl - You're tackling a lot of challenges too, how's the first day going?

Hey all. Day one, all challenges met for the day. The daily abs was a tough one, and I almost skipped it, because my workout was a cardio fusion class tonight. I hurt :( But, I did them.

And yes all, I did bring home my early Christmas present. It would have been smarter to wait, and maybe make it a reward too, Nikki, but impulse control has never been my strong point. Plus, I do put a lot of miles on my car, so it wasn't a horrible thing.

I love it!!!

Ok, I'm back. Just had that urge to take a couple days off and not worry about anything. Still did pretty good on calories though and never stopped exercising!

I'm starting my new challenges today and am only going to work on 2 of my biggest issues. First one is back to counting those calories and the other one is no snacking after dinner.

Yep, I started TJ this morning! I love it! I'm just glad I was doing it alone because I kept messing up the combinations and must've looked like a spaz! LOL I went to Clinique today and had my colors done - $75 later...I'm walking out with all new stuff! Yikes, didn't mean to spend that - but at least it was actually on all stuff that I needed to replenish (at least that's what I'm telling myself!) I wear make-up every day, but I'm not usually THIS made up, I never wear mascara & they put it on me...now my eyelashes keep sticking together! LOL

So, Jolly...why must you keep me in suspense? What kind of car did you get?? Good for you on getting through your ab challenge, sorry you're hurting though...I guess this is where figuring out that balance comes in.

djstorey - I'm trying to roll right along! With TJ, there's a new meal plan, which is saying I need about 400-500 calories more than I've been taking in. I'm not sure how I feel about that! Another round of TJ Learn & Burn, then PY Pilates this morning! This evening I'm going to take TJ over to my coach (my friend Russ) & we're going to work out together. I hope I have a slight advantage since I've done the learn and burn twice, but I'm not sure...since he's been doing p90X & has YEARS of martial arts experience! Oh well, I can only hope that he doesn't show me up too badly & that I have enough energy at the end of the day to 'bring it'! Good news of the day - my eyelashes are no longer sticking together! LOL

Jolly - I love the Ford Escape! I actually used to have a Mazda Tribute (very similar to the Escape), loved it! Congrats again on that! Food porn - love that term...at least you recognized it, now you can just get back on track and keep going :)

Shy - Of course you're thought of! I think of all of you, you guys are great! AND it helps me keep motivated knowing that I have to come here and 'confess my sins'! LOL

Well, got too busy again yesteday and didn't start my challenges. Had teacher conferences last night on top of everything and with 2 kids in high school I was there for over 2 hours trying to talk to all the teachers. Anyway, today I'm back to normal (I think) and will count today as day 1.

Well, thought I was back to normal and would start my challenges the other day, but, it didn't happen. Had a busy weekend running around and playing catch up with some chores. Went out yesterday and got my son a snowboard package at a ski swap sale they had. It seems we got a good deal, but I'm still in sticker shock over all the money spent. (I don't spend well). This is something he's wanted for a long time now I took advantage of the sale to get him started and told him that this is his main Christmas present!

TODAY will be day 1 of my new challenges.

Well, I am in a nice funk today. Blame PMS. I had another recurring dream about an ex boyfriend I haven't seen in 16 years. How pathetic is my life that I have to dream about a boyfriend from that long ago??? I have only had 4 dates since college:fr: Just sad. A friend was trying to tell me I was a strong woman, and I should be beating guys off with a stick. Riiiiiiiight. I can see the Match headline now: "Do you like opinionated, sarcastic, smart and quick witted women? Do you find yourself strangely attracted to the cosmetically challenged? Do you perhaps need medication? APPLY HERE!"

I took a pause day on my follow menu challenge, but did meet the others. I know I need to take better care of myself. I know I need to feel better about myself, like I am worth more. I have never felt confident when it comes to relationships. I know I need to work on this.

Just feels better to wallow in self pity though. Hey, I am comfortable down here.

Day 16 - Day 20 (WOW - it's Day 20)
All workouts completed & Diary tracking done! WOOOHOO!!

I lost 3.5 more pounds last week, so I'm down 20.5 pounds!! Or 49 pounds from 2 years ago! :)

Sorry I've been away guys - my life is as hectic as ever. I have 2 exams this week, house-fire season has started & we're crazy busy at work. Guess what? My ex (Mark) finally gave in and called me...talking about how he misses me, he's sorry - he didn't deserve me, I'm to good for him... & of course I agreed! LOL So, we're talking again...don't know what that means, but it is what it is!

Shy - I hope you had a wonderful birthday!!

I'm sorry I don't have time to catch up with all the posts and respond right now. Just know I'm thinking of you guys & hoping that you're sticking to it!!

Hi everyone. Very sorry not to have been posting. LIfe is just too hectic. I've been doing a LOT, but somehow the idea of a challenge is just too much. It's like having the freedom NOT to be accountable takes the pressure off and allows me to actually do the things I wanted to. So, it's OK. I just feel bad about not posting.
Maybe I should do a light challenge on top of the other things, just so I have something to report and can take part.
It sounds like everyone is pretty busy. Jolly, hang in there. I am going through periods of extreme self-hate myself, so I know how you feel. I don't know why. I think I just woke up to how fat I am and am hating, really hating myself for having allowed myself to get there and stay there. Why now after all this time do I finally wake up and see it? I don't know. I guess I should be happy, because now I can change it. But, really seeing what I've become is too much. It disgusts me no end, most of all because I was thinking I looked fine. My God!
Anyhow, which is better, the bliss of denial and the lack of change or being disgusted enough to finally change? I guess the latter if I truly do seek change.
Anyhow, talk to you all later.

Oh, right, my weight is actually down. I've become so obsessed I am happy but not...I need a pep talk. I mean, I AM losing weight, but the self-hate is so great I can't even pat myself on the back. :mad:

Another busy day yesterday. Someone gave me a router yesterday so I could have wireless internet in my house and spent the afternoon removing wires, installing everything and trying to clean up my very messy desk area. Can't say it looks a lot better, but it's something! Now my son can get internet on his laptop without running a wire across my dining room table too! We're both thrilled!

Nikki - :carrot: Great job on the challenges! You're doing so well despite being so busy!

I'm here too. Just busy like everyone else. I too spent too much time yesterday in a shopping mall. A little shopping, and a lot of waiting for the kids to get their yearly portraits done! I can't believe how early all the Christmas stuff has started. We actually saw santa yesterday at the mall. What happened to waiting until AFTER Thanksgiving?

Jolly - I'm with you on the shopping. I prefer to get in and out quickly. The more time I spend shopping with all those crowds, the more I want to go home and have a stiff drink or ten.

Shy - :cheer2: Good job! And yes, I'd count 4 hours of shopping as my workout! I'd be burning lots of calories just from the stress alone!

Red - Glad to see you popping in as you can! It's nice to know you're out there.

Got room for one more 21 Day challenge girl? Here I sit, right before the holidays only 16 pounds from goal, after having dropped 36 pounds since last January for my New Year's resolution. I am 5.7 and currently weigh 146.

My daily goals are simple, to take in between 1200 and 1300 calories daily works very well for me if I incorporate at least 30 minutes of light cardio/strength training, bicycling, and movement into my day. I aim to take in 3 liters of water a day (which is easy now that I have my 1 Liter water jug at my desk) and eat dinner before 7:00 p.m. I also log everything I eat into fitday.com to keep track of calories and exercise, although I am also using a workout log to track exercise/fitness goals. In 21 days, I should at least be down six pounds through healthy eating and exercise. I would love to join your challenge if you will have me!

In particular, despite how much I love finding the perfect presents for people, there is nothing that gets me out of the holiday spirit faster then dealing with the shopping crowds. Aimin - welcome. Here's a new weight tracker for my goal for my departure for Hong Kong Dec. 5. I've been moving along. Hope I can make it! :yes: I've taken out the decimal point so I can show smaller increments. So, it's, for example, 73.2 kg, not 732!!!! :eek: Hmmm...I didn't realize I was just halfway. That's a little slower than I had hoped, but I'm optimistic! :dance: I'm going to keep making little smaller goals as I go along. I thought it didn't matter, but it does. Looking at the end goal is TOO big. Looking ahead a few kilos is something I can get my head around.

Shy I am sorry to hear about your knee, but I really admire you for working around it as best you can. Alot of folks might not have your diligence! Pat yourself on the back!

Well, I got up at 6:15, put in an intense music cd, locked myself into my home gym/yoga studio and dedicated over an hour on the total gym! It felt amazing. I set the machine on a moderate height level (it works on a pully system so the more height actually means I am towing more of my own body weight) but not too high as to damage myself since I am just now getting back to weightlifting.

I am using the workout journal by Suzanne Schlosberg and I learned a valuable tool. She said that many exercisers like to track their resting heartrate first thing in the morning. That an olympic athelete might have a resting hr of 30 beats per minute, whilst a couch potato might have a rate of 80 beats per minute (that is what mine was Monday, oops..) But I have tracked it and over 3 days of exercise it has already reduced! I was 80 Monday, 76 Tuesday and 65 today! This is part of my new plan to focus less on the scale (although that would be a happy side-note) and more on total health such as nutrition, water levels, muscle tone, flexibility, stress management and heart health.

Sadly, I will have to report on days 4,5,6 and 7 on Monday, because my computer at home has evidently caught the flu and is inoperable. I apologize and I wish everyone love, luck and willpower over the holiday weekend! Best wishes to you all and stay strong with your goals, but don't completely deprive yourself either!!!

Sigh....hi, guys, I am disgusted with this weight loss battle. Really disgusted. My weight is way up today. It's gotta be bloat, but still, to where, 4 lbs of it?!? I even dragged myself to the gym, an hour walk there and back, and did weights etc. and didn't eat much and...sigh...I am sick of my face being all swollen up...I look 20 years older and now I've got to go out and meet people here for the big race...all while I look like I've been pigging out for weeks, when actually I've been really working hard. What goes?!?!? :mad:

Well, did good yesterday, not so good today. A friend invited me to her house for lunch, then I had to come home to bake for tomorrow. Needless to say, I have not counted any calories today! I know tomorrow will be difficult too, so, I am going to start over on Friday. Yes, I will be watching my food intake tomorrow, but trying to count all those homemade items just sounds like too much at the moment! I WILL get my workout in tomorrow though!

Red - Hang in there! Yes, it's probably that dreaded bloat, but that means it'll come right back off. I did that last week. 4 lbs here too! I was glad to see it go away 2 days later.

Oh Shy, that is too much work. I have a recipe for a bag turkey - you grease her up, shove her in the bag, and let it sit until done. It is hard to get it out of the pan, it falls apart so much. mmmmm.

Anyway, just popped back on to report a save. After my cardio class my friend and I went to a food porn shop for a bite to eat and a chance to talk. I ordered a salad, with a vinagrette dressing, and no during or after dinner food porn. Hurray. Now may tomorrow go so well.

:turkey: Happy thanksgiving all. I have to admit, when I first saw this smilie, it was a bit disturbing. Looked like the smilie was serving up the turkey's head on a platter. Then i realized he was riding the turkey. OK. It's still disturbing.

I just had to come on quick and give myself a pat on the back. I did make it to the gym for a pre-feast workout. And made a decent breakfast choice considering the big gig coming up soon.
