Question Zumba soreness

I've taken a couple of zumba classes and absolutely love them. However, the muscles that control "hip swaying" are pretty sore from the workout (which is a good thing).

My zumba instructor says that doing zumba will do more for your abs than traditional crunches. Any opinions one way or the other about this?
