Well, as I mentioned at the tail end of the August thread . . . I had a nasty little melt-down yesterday. Consequently my BGL was 7.0 (126) this morning and I'm actually surprised it wasn't higher. Guess all the fat on the pizza saved me some from all the carbs in the date squares. . . . Anyway, definitely back on track this morning and looking forward to a great month.
It's raining at the moment but hopefully not for much longer. The weatherman is promising some sunshine by this afternoon. Good thing, too. This is the start of our Pictou County Fall Fair Week as well as being Labour Day weekend, of course.
Since I live across the road from the fairgrounds, it would be impossible for me to avoid the various activities even if I wanted to. The theme for the fair this year is a salute to the past Queens of the Fair over the 50 year history of the event. Forty-eight of them are still living and most of them have promised that they will be in attendance at the crowning of the 51st. Should be lots of fun. Hope the weather holds good for next weekend's wind-up parade.
Well gang . . . I'd better go finish up a few other things around here. Look forward to seeing you all again, really soon. Have a great day.

My blood sugars have been spot on since wednesday. I started work on Tuesday last week and I didnt have my insulin the night before, so I was well out of range. I'm not 100% liking my job so far. Sure, its money, but I am so busy and I am the only person in my department. I've only been given 3 and a half days of training on their system. Yah, fun. I have the joyous task of keeping a whole system of spare part orders running. I handle endless streams of phonecalls while trying to keep up with quotas for entering orders onto an excel system. I even organize the delivery/dispatches from our in house warehouse.
I get 40 minutes worth of breaks a day including lunch, but I usually end up working straight through them because I'm that busy. If I want a drink of water, I have to get it from the women's bathroom sink. I get plenty of exercise at least. I have to run up and down stairs preparing all of the orders and dispatches. About 60% of the people I work with speak only the most basic english, as they come from the EU to work here in Britain.
I was so tired every day after work, I just wanted to sleep. Yesterday, I met up with a friend at a mcdonalds (she works there and gets discounts) and I got myself a cokezero and an ice cream in a dish and made myself a coke float. It was so refreshing to just sit back and relax and have a laugh. I wish I could do it more often. Hopefully, now I'm earning money (but dont get paid until next friday) I'll be able to go out more often with my bf and other friends.
I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and a whole lot of tired, but I'm still chuggin along. We have to move out by the 22nd of this month, and we dont have a place lined up yet. we put in an application and got beat out by another guy, and we put in another application and are supposed to hear back on monday. Hopefully. If this one doesnt come through, we may be in trouble.
I'm starting to feel the stress of it all, but my bloodsugar's arent. They've been rock solid the past couple of days because I've been keeping an eye on them. Hopefully, this trend will continue and I wont have to add another item to my worry list!
Hope everyone is doin well, And meowee How're the kittens behaving? ^^

Hi CASANDRA . . . glad to hear the BG is staying in-line. New jobs can really be the pits but it will probably become a lot less stressful as you become more familiar with the systems and the routines and as you become more familiar with the others working there. Hang in there, chickie and just think about the money you will be able to spend soon.
BTW, the kittens seem to have settled down quite a bit. I've gone back to the clumping clay littler and they seem to prefer it. Hopefully this trend will continue.

My blood sugars have been spot on since wednesday. That's great considering the stress you've been under  maybe all the exercise is helping? I'm glad you are busy at your work, that must make the day pass quicker.
Why do you have to move on the 22nd? what happens if you don't find a place by then? :o
Guess all the fat on the pizza saved me some from all the carbs in the date squares.
Mmmm pizza and date squares  yummy, if you are going to have a meltdown, that's the way to do it.
Went to the dietitian today for my weigh in. I lost 6lbs in the past 3 weeks, down to 175 and that means 40lbs lost!! in just under 4 months. I started my diet on May 5. I've got 11 weeks until my cruise, hoping to lose another 20lbs by then, that's a real goal for me, I'd like to look nice and have some nice clothes for the ship. I'm taking things a day at a time though, just hoping for the best.
Tonight I went to a dinner party, they had bbq pork & steak - and well, I had both along with a generous helping of pasta and caesar salad and a dessert of mangos marinated in grand marnier. What a way to celebrate 40lbs lost. Don't worry, tomorrow I am back on track.

Thin Our landlady recently had a baby girl, and she is now at that age where she's learning to walk. The house they live in now has no room for a baby to run around or play even outside. This house isnt much better mind, we have a tiered back yard so there's three layers. They want to sell both houses in favor of a bigger house with a huge yard. We were planning on living here a few years mind. We've had our two month's notice and we've been looking like crazy for a new place to move into. We've put in another application for a house and should hear early this week. If we dont get this one, I think we're pretty much screwed. We may have to move back in with Dan's parents for a week or two ( and I sooo dont want to do that). They live a hour away from where we both work. The commute is horrid.
It'd probably be our only option though.

Good Morning . . .
It's sunny and cool around northern Nova Scotia this morning . . . the kind of weather I just love . . . hope it continues for a long time like this. Guess my BGL likes it too -- 4.9 / 88 first thing this morning -- hope that continues for a long time too.
On the not so great front, that little meltdown I mentioned (most of the week that came before it wasn't too great either :o) resulted in my being 6 pounds over my ticker weight yesterday morning. The good part of this little story -- three of it is gone again as of this morning. The bad part -- guess the other 3 is mine to deal with. Anyway, I refuse to move my ticker to 231 (it doesn't 'go West'). Hopefully I can catch up with it again by the end of this month. :^:
Congratulations to you THIN . . . you are doing really well. Keep up the good stuff, girl . . . :high:
Gee whiz, CASANDRA  . . . really hope you get a good break with the house-hunting really soon. :)
Another thing that torments diabetics is poor balance -- it certainly is one of my 'problem areas' -- here's a short little video showing a couple of exercises that are recommended. Think I will add them to my routine for all the time it takes in the hope that they will actually help. (Unfortunately, to see the short video, you hve to put up with a commercial from Lipitor that is almost as long as the main attraction. :() . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/PublicSite/Healthology/VideoPage.aspx?category=&cvalue=1923 . . . Oh well. seems the internet is getting as bad as regular television these days.
Anyway, gang . . . hope everybody has a great day planned. Keep things moving and shaking just as much as you possibly can . . . see you all later. :carrot:

Hi girls! BG was 7.2 this morning (129.6) obviously showing effects of the BBQ dinner I had last night :o
Casandra, that is rotten how they gave you so little notice. Did you try contacting the people who are buying to see if they want renters? maybe they would let you stay?
Dan's parents doesn't sound like a great option, but it's better than no where to go. Hope this new place accepts your application and everything is okay.
Hi Meowee, 3 lbs up is MUCH better than 6 lbs up, 3 pound you can deal with no problem.
I bought a scale, I figured I would weigh in myself once a week now instead of waiting for the dietitian. It's stupid. I stand on it 176.2, get off, stand on it again 175.4, get off, stand on it again, 178.4 get off stand on it again 174.8
Stupid stupid stupid. I', throwing it out and just weighing in at the dietitians again. :dizzy:
Meowee, do you get Discovery Canada channel? there is a show on this morning about the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner. I am sailing on her next August! it' starts here in a half hour.
Have a good day everyone!!

I just got back home THIN . . . I would have watched the programme if I had known. Couldn't have picked anything much bigger for your cruise, could you. It's okay, the bigger they are the less chance of people getting seasick.
BTW . . . don't be too hard on the scale, they all do that (well except for the great big balance-bar kind). It isn't the number that's important, it's the overall direction. I tend to get on three times -- if I get two the same, that's what I use; if not, take the average. The living human body is very hard to weigh accurately because we just never stop moving no matter how hard we try.

The scale doesn't have feelings so I am going to call it stupid! lol
It's just, when you are dieting, every oz is important, your whole day and state of mind can be affected by a good reading, or a bad one. I'm not going to torture myself - I'm getting rid of that thing and sticking with the arm one at the dietitians.
Yeah, the QM2 is one huge ship.

Good Morning -- Good Morning -- :grouphug:
Another absolutely delightful day around here . . . low humidity; comfy temperatures; lots of sunshine . . . yippee. The BGL is good too at 5.6 (101). The animals seem to be controlling themselves. I'm controlling my eating. Hey, everything is looking pretty good with my world right now. :D
Sorry to hear you have to go to work, Casandra, when all of us on this side of 'the pond' have a holiday Monday; and sorry you aren't feeling too good either.
I seem to fall over my big feet a lot too, Rosey, and I'm pretty sure it's related to Diabetic neuropathy -- I didn't seem to be a klutz when I was younger. :dizzy:
Aww, Thin, I know exactly how you feel. There is something very compelling about the scale -- sitting there, smirking at us. ;)
Wowee . . . how many times have we heard the line "I'm just dying to lose some weight"? Well, here are a coupple of things to think about tht give new meaning to that sentence -- In 1878, one of the first so-called "diet drinks" featured iodine on it's ingredient list and, even more bizarre, the first "diet pill" ever available combined arsenic, strychnine, and a thyroid extract to raise the user's metabolism.
Anyway, gang . . . hope you all have a great Monday -- be it a holiday or not -- see you again really soon . . .

meowee nice trivia. People, when I say people, I mean women, in the 1800's used arsenic wafers to maintain a pale skintone and a "breathless"ness. Which supposedly made them more feminine.
I had a bad day today. I've learned my gorgeous puppy in the USA is very ill. My parents were going to bring her into the vet tomorrow, but this morning she was shaking uncontrollably and foaming at the mouth. They rushed her to the vet and he gave her a vitamin B shot and some other meds. Hopefully she'll be ok.
I went into work and got a good amount of work done, then my MILLION YEAR OLD pc died and excel crashed and I had to start all over again. I have had no lunch, I worked through it, didnt really have a choice. I was looking forward to coming home to a nice big roast dinner (turkey) but eventually couldnt be arsed and was given pizza instead. I was still hungry after that, so I had cup a soup. Feeling a bit better.
I'm really tired, I have dreams about missing flat pack furniture pieces, and I've only been there for a week. X___x
I have my headache still, aspirin didnt help at all today.
At least my sugars are still ok! That's one thing to be happy about, I guess.

Hi Casandra, Meowee :)
I have also heard that women in the 1800's would purposely consume tape worms so they could eat what they like and stay slim. Then when the tape worm got big in their tummies, they would starve it and lure it out their mouth with food :o
Now that seems like alotta work to me :D
Okay, I lost it today, I am been eating constantly and not good eating either. I need to get back to work tomorrow, back to routine - I'm out of control today - maybe I'm getting my period or something but it's been really really bad, the worst breakdown in a long time. :(

OMG . . . You know, I heard not too many years ago that people were importing diet pills from some strange place that actually contained tapeworm larvae . . . the very thought makes my hair stand on end . . . think I'd almost rather suck on an arsenic wafer - breathless indeed.

*Cringing at the tape worm discussion* Very interesting! I would be extremely scared to have something like that after all the tapeworm-related horror stories I've seen on TV. I also wonder how a tapeworm would affect my blood sugar. :p
Sorbitol... is CRAP CITY! As I mentioned before, I just don't bother with sugar free desserts. I'd rather have the real stuff. But oh, I guess Sorbitol will help you lose weight, now won't it?! It's like buying a colonic cleansing for a lot less money
I got my time of month today, but I lost another pound anyway this morning (BEFORE the bleeding started! haha). I feel awfully bloated and know I'm retaining, so maybe once I'm off this, I'll see a nice, magical number like 145... I'll settle for 147 or 148, though! My weight loss is definitely slowing down, but I know that happens once you don't have as much to lose.
On a note not related to dieting or diabetes, I found something interesting online. Meowee's link to something for older folks made me think of it:
http://www.freemosquitoringtones.org/ - the mosquito ring tone. Apparently, people over 24 are not supposed to be able to hear it. The original ringtone is in 17khz. They have a whole chart of what ringtones different age groups are supposed to hear, and according to this test, my hearing is 30! I HAVE GEEZER EARS! This does not surprise me, though, as I HAVE attended countless rock concerts and also had a touring band - when you are on stage, your amp is turned extremely high and your mic even higher so you can actually hear yourself. On top of that, I declared myself too hardcore to wear ear plugs, so I'm pretty sure my hearing is damaged  I actually think that if I have a band that performs on stage again, I just might wear the plugs! ;)

Hi everyone, just came home from seeing my sister's mansion (I mean, new house) it's 6000 square feet, 5 bedrooms - each with their own ensuite bathroom with tub and separate shower. It was something else. Theater room with projection TV, games room, huge great room family/kitchen combo, butlers pantry with dishwasher, there is this outdoor porch area that has a fireplace to keep you warm on cool evenings. Big pool in the backyard, it was really incredible, I don't know how she is going to clean it, she must be getting a housekeeper in - but I didn't ask.
Anyway, there was all kinds of food at the party... and guess what?
I had....

So, at Subway, there was this guy ahead of me who was wearing something on his hip. I'm very observant, and noticed it was an insulin pump, as opposed to a cell phone or pager. I went to Subway with one of my co-workers and wondered if I should say something about it since the guy was already talking to me a little bit, but decided not to, until my way out, when I said, "By the way *points at pump* diabetics unite!" and gave him the rock on sign. My co-worker just laughed and said, "Wow, I had no idea you were diabetic." I guess you learn something new every day, huh... :D
Thin - CONGRADULATIONS!! All that food in front of you and that's ALL you had? GOOD JOB! You must feel so proud... you SHOULD feel so proud. What self control! :) and LMAO@ geezer eared hot chick... well... at least there is hot in there! *huge grin*
Rosey - good job on losing all but 3 of the gained pounds, I know you'll lose those 3 too and then 3 more and 3 more and... you know where this is heading... ;)
Jeanne - maybe you just need to eat more carbs? Or reduce whatever medication you are on by a bit?

Hi there . . . I'm back . . . had a nap and it definitely improved things . . . now if the weather would just be a little more cooperative -- it's overcast and the temperature has only managed to hit a high of 16C / 61F. Fall is definitely in the air.
And that made me think of this little FFFF -- Americans eat more on SuperBowl Sunday than on any other day of the year except Thankgsgiving -- Christmas comes in at a distant third.
Here's a good article from D:Life about the part diet may play in the development of Diabetic Retinopathy . . . http://www.dlife.com/dLife/do/ShowContent/inspiration_expert_advice/expert_columns/chous_august2007.html
Hi there SHANE . . . I love Subway, as long as you take it easy with the bread, they've got some pretty healthy stuff.
Hi there JEANNE . . . Basically, I agree with Shane that perhaps you need to be sure you are balancing your point choices.
Actually, I've been counting calories, fat, carbs, protein, and fibre grams for the past 6 or 7 months and just decided this morning that I'm going back to tracking the CDA Choices instead. Why -- same reason I discovered Weight Watchers Points don't work for me either -- I tend to eat too much of the wrong stuff even though my calories/points are on plan. Guess I just need a little more rigid control.
See you all later . . . :carrot: Try to keep things moving and shaking.

Rosey, shopping and organizing the male bonding weekend sounds like a huge job, I hope they appreciate it!
Congrats on losing those pounds that snuck back. You have a clean slate now and everything gets better from here.
I had an okay day, busy at work, but I ate really well and did my cardio which I haven't done since Friday.
A house, 6 houses down from me went up for sale today... I was curious and went over for the open house. My house needs some major work soon, the basement is still unfinished (even though we've lived here 5 years) the kitchen counters and cabinets need replace and floors too, we have carpeting that need replaced and I have always wanted a big jacuzzi tub in the ensuite - but that would require taking out walls.. etc.. :dizzy:
Anyway, this house I looked at - has all that. A gorgeous ensuite with jacuzzi, new hardwood floors and a new staircase, new kitchen cabinets & floors, granite countertops, a fabulous finished basement, 2 gas fireplaces. :carrot:
I got to thinking, wouldn't it just be easier to move - then to renovate? :?:
There are a couple of drawbacks... one (the biggest!) is my hubby who was not impressed when I suggested moving LOL
the other is the layout is not as nice as our house, and I don't think DH's pool table will fit in the room they have there. Also, we have nicer windows here - bigger, and a nicer view out the backyard. They have a church behind them and it's not a great view.
I am going to try to get him to look at it tomorrow with me. The other crazy thing, the closing needs to be October 30th! and I have my trip in Nov 19th, I'd probably have to cancel. :(
Yes, I'm a crazy lady from Canada.

Oh wow . . . don't do anything rash, THIN . . . especially if you don't love the floor plan . . . ;)
Good Morning everybody . . . :grouphug:
Unfortunately I was up very early again . . . don't know why. At least it is a better looking day -- nice and sunny and a little warmer -- thank goodness. My BGL was an even 5.0 (90) this morning, so that was good and, even better, no kitten 'faux pas'.
And now for today's little bit of trivia . . . Did you know that 7-UP got it's name from the fact that it contained 7 ingredients? It was introduced just before the stock market crash in 1929 and one of those 7 ingredients was lithium. It contained the anti-depressant until the 1940's. Guess the inventor, C.L.Griggs, was trying to compete with good old Coca-Cola which really did contain cocaine when it was first introduced. And to think, today we worry about caffeine (but never in 7-Up). :dizzy:
Have a great day, gang . . . see you later . . .

Morning!! I had a meeting at work today and got my usual 5 hours of sleep (bad, I know, but I have to wake up at 5:30 every morning!) so I chugged down some Carb Free Rock Star (I find myself doing this often) and got down to business!
NSV: I'm wearing a pair of SIZE SIX PANTS TODAY!!! Granted, they are an Old Navy six, which makes them a little bit larger than most 6's, but they were also made over four years ago, so they are slightly smaller than Old Navy's current 6. I feel AMAZING! :carrot:
My blood sugars have also been really good since my weight loss journey has commenced (with a few exceptions, of course, we all have our crazy days, no?) I always tried to keep them in a good range and have been a bit of a health freak on that even while fat, but it was more difficult to do this when I overate. I got my A1C done yesterday: 6.7!!! :D It may not sound amaaaazing, but it is an improvement for me, as my A1C's are usually in the lower 7's. However, I've also had more lows, which might explain some things. :p
Rosey - rock on for losing those 3 pounds!
Thin - I agree that moving sounds wayyyy easier than renovating. Renovating a house, I imagine, can be a really fun project IF all parties involved have the time, dedication, and passion to get it done. Most people are lacking one or more of those factors. To me, the idea sounds really fun as a job, but as something I'd do in my spare time? No way... not enough hours in the day... I hope your hubby is dedicated!

Just got back from the dr. My mammagram was normal. They took an extra picture because they thought they saw something but it was normal. Husband went for a phyical today, the dr heard a slight rattle in his lung so sent him for a chest xray. the first one was cloudy,so they took a second. Tomorrow he goes for blood work. then goes back to the dr on Oct 11.
My blood sugar and pressure were a little high. But I don't go back till Jan.

Happy Friday . . . :grouphug:
Don't know why Fridays always seem to get so busy for me that I don't get a chance to stop in here, earlier? Nothing wrong with my BGL today; nothing wrong with my eating regimen today -- just very, very busy.
I've started working on Christmas presents, too ROSEY -- have quite a little pile of crocheted slippers completed.
Anyway, hope you all had a good day . . . see you tomorrow.

Hi gang . . . :grouphug:
A little tongue in cheek :thanks: for everybody (except, maybe, Rosey) West of me [pretty much takes care of all of you (except Casandra)] for sending this hot and sticky weather my way.
Oh well, at least it means I'll have the A/C going today and that will help to drown out a bit of the racket coming from the fair grounds. Much as I love all the activities of fair week, it does get a little tiresome by this point. Last night it was after midnight before all the noise of everybody leaving for home died down. :(
After I finally got to sleep, I did sleep pretty well for a change. BGL was 4.7 (85) first thing this morning. Had :coffee: and read the store-flyers for a little while and it was getting pretty low, I think, by the time I actually had my breakfast -- boy, I should know better. Anyway . . . just finished my protein pancakes overflowing with local blueberries, for the third day in a row . . . now I need to get some more berries or I'll actually have to eat something else for breakfast tomorrow. OMG, I  blueberries.
Hope everybody has a good day . . . see you later . . .

Hi everyone, it's been a good week food/exercise wise, but not emotionally wise - been arguing with my hubby about the house thing, moving, renovating of course everything got turned around to I'm being unreasonable, why do I need a big bathtub? what's wrong with a regular one, why do I have to have a special kitchen, what's wrong with the one we have? (even though there is a cabinet door missing and the ceramic tiles have cracks and the counter tops don't match!) anyway, we didn't talk for a couple of days which is hard because we work together.
Then out of the blue he said 'fine, move' call the mortgage company, get approved to make the offer - do it. Well, he hasn't even seen the house yet -he says it doesn't matter what he thinks, it's all what I want. Blah. I said come see it with me, and he said no, he didn't want to - maybe on Sunday if he had a moment.
Needless to say, I expect to stay here and nothing to change. I dont think I'll ever have a big jacuzzi tub or a beautiful kitchen - the only thing he committed to was finishing the basement, but there was no mention of when this might start.

I had company last weekend, and I am going out of town next weekend. Busy busy busy! My blood sugar shows the stress with great sensitivity! dang it!
I have a kiln to unload, and another load of glazed stuff to put in, so I better get workin'!

Good Morning . . . :grouphug:
Very happy to say that our horribly sticky heat wave appears to have been a one-day affair. Seems quite normal and pleasant this morning. Additionally, the good old Fall Fair will wind-up today and then my little neighbourhood will be back to normal and pleasant (and quiet) again, too.
Slept pretty well last night with the A/C drowning out most of the fair noises as well as keeping the house feeling fairly pleasant. My BGL was happy this morning also at a nice sane 5.3 (95). Hope that manages to continue throughout the rest of the day, too.
Gosh, MONET . . . I think your pottery is gorgeous and I can't understand why it doesn't fly right off the shelf. Maybe things will get busy for you as Christmas approaches.
Hope your weather is better, too ROSEY . . . definitely enjoy the weekend without the men-folk underfoot.
Sorry you and DH are arguing THIN . . . men just never understand these things, but it would be nice if you could get a start-date for the basement out of him.
Here's a little Diabetes related quiz for you this fine Sunday . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/PublicSite/Healthology/VideoPage.aspx?category=diabetes&cvalue=1929
And . . . here's a little FFFF too . . . at one time, French Kings were constantly fearful of being poisened by their cooks so it was vital that their food was prepared by a trusted member of the royal househould. When a chef had proved is loyalty and cooking abilities he was rewarded with a 'toque-blanche', the pleats of which represented the vertical bars of the monarchs golden crown . . . so now you know why chefs wear tall white hats.
Have a great day doing lots and lots of good stuff, gang . . . see you soon . . .

Here's a little FFFF for you . . .
The Romans called salmon "salmo" which means "leaper". But salmon was a staple food well before Roman times . . . about 10,000 years ago, a caveman carved a picture of a leaping salmon on a raindeer bone.
Salmon is actually leaps and bounds above other sources of protein, It contains all the essential amino acids, it's high in calcium and omega-3 fatty acids; it's low in saturated fat and calories.
It's a great idea to get 'hooked on salmon' . . .
Hope everybody has a great day . . . :grouphug:

Hi there everybody . . . :grouphug:
Didn't sleep very well last night and the fact that it is raining (and supposed to continue raining for the rest of today and tomorrow) is definitely not helping to alleviate my sluggish feelings this morning. At least the BGL was cooperative -- 4.7 (85) at breakfast time.
Not too much in my plans for today. Started crocheting a new afghan -- four colours . . . beige, orange, green, brown -- BUT -- the colours are actually named . . . honey, carrot, thyme, coffee -- can't seem to get away from food-stuff no matter how hard you try. Hey; at least they aren't exactly fattening trigger foods. At least they aren't called -- cheesecake, peach pie, mint icecream, and chololate brownie
Here's a little FFFF for this morning, too . . . MacDonalds sprinkles a total of 2,500 tons of sesame seeds on its buns over the course of a year . . . saddest part is . . . those sesame seeds are probably one of the healthiest things they serve. :yikes:

Jeanne . . . that is a real shame about the Byetta . . . you are not the first person on here to make that comment . . . don't know whether different batches are different strengths or your body just gets used to it. I'm sure I remember Monet mentioning that some of her pens just didn't seem to have the same 'oomph' as others.
I've only had Moose once and I quite liked it, Rosey . . . so you'll all have lots of good eating out of that big guy eventually. BTW, I couldn't get the strip border to work right on the new afghan (one of those 'mile-a-minute' patterns so I've put it aside and gone back to another one (of the total of four) I've also got on the go at the moment. And, know what, it's all one colour -- called Mocha. OMG, everything in the world will soon be named after food items.
Well, guess I'd better go get dinner on the floor for the felines. I stepped on Frick's paw this afternoon and she's been giving me dirty looks  ever since so maybe dinner will soothe her feelings -- can't say that I blame her (I wouldn't want to be stepped on by something more than twenty times bigger than me, either); but maybe she'll stay out from under foot now. :^:
Have a great evening :carrot:

Cool in Toronto tonight, maybe autumn is here? the leaves are starting to cahnge and everything.
I've been getting lazy at checking my BG again. It's been a stressful week for me.

Hope everyone has a nice, no-stress evening.

Our weather isn't sure what it's going to do today as far as sunny or rainy is concerned. It has definitely decided on being windy and very, very humid. :( Hey, at least I know Ontario will be shipping some cooler stuff my way, really soon. ;)
I got a bit of extra exercise this morning. We only get garbage pickup every second week, so I usually have a fair amount to lug to the curb anyway, but today I also had an extra eight big, heavy bags of yard waste to put out. I was sweating buckets by the time I finished.
Also proved the value of a little extra exercise in the BGL department too. At 7:30, my BGL was 6.6 (119) -- so, I had two cups of coffee with cream, did a couple of other early morning chores (feeding the cats, clearing up some leftover dishes, etcetera) and then did the aforementioned garbage thing. At 8:30 when I sat down to have my HF cereal with banana and skim milk, my BGL was 4.7 (85)
Also glad to report that I've caught up to my ticker again -- well, guess that should be "caught down to". ;) Hopefully everything will be 'downhill' from here. ;)
Thin's healthy vegetable binge reminded my of this little FFFF . . . sad, but true . . . French Fries account for a whopping 25% of all vegetables consumed in North America . . . and we wonder why we've got an obesity epidemic.
Have a great moving and shaking kind of day gang . . . see you soon . . . :carrot:

Hello to all my 'sweet' friends! :) Not much going on here. I should be down in the garagio working, but I am procrastinating instead. I spent an hour or so playing with my grandson, and now I am messing around online. Sigh.
JEANNE: I hear ya! I lost six pounds the first month I took Byetta, then three the next, then the weight loss stopped, and I am back to struggling to keep from gaining. I don't know if I should blame the Byetta for my ups and downs of blood sugar levels, or my eating habits which are not always very pure. I think I have about given up. I am pretty sure a lot of it comes from the changes the stupid doctor made in my thyroid meds. I just don't have any energy, and it is hard to overcome. I wonder if going off the Byetta for a few months would help. If you find anything out, pass the info on, ok?

Hi Rosey . . .
Have to admit, if I forget any meds, I just skip them and stick to my regular schedule . . . but, having said that, I feel compelled to add that most drug information that you receive from your pharmacy contains guidelines for just such an event. So . . . you might want to give the pharmacist a call.
BTW . . . was this something new about Actos / Avandia? I know that Avandia has been on the 'iffy' list because of heart related problems for quite a long time now, but have not heard anything new about it or anything about Actos -- which I do take. Just finished reviewing the latest Health Canada Advisories since first reading your post and I find nothing new posted in there. Have you taken a look at the US - FDA site? I don't have an automatic link to it, but shall go and see if I can track one down.
Back later . . .

Here's the original warning from FDA about AVANDIA dated May 21 . . . http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2007/NEW01636.html
And here's an August 14 notice about stronger labelling for both AVANDIA and ACTOS although ACTOS was not included in the initial warning . . . http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2007/NEW01683.html

I also had an extra eight big, heavy bags of yard waste to put out. I was sweating buckets by the time I finished.
We are allowed 3 bags a week, I always have extra... my neighbours must think I'm weird - they have like one little kitchen size white bag, and I have 6 honking extra large green ones. I wait until after dark and then I add my extra bags in front of all the houses with 1 or 2 LOL
Also glad to report that I've caught up to my ticker again -- well, guess that should be "caught down to". ;) Hopefully everything will be 'downhill' from here. ;)

THIN -- Just in case Monet doesn't get a chance to stop in -- For Canuks, unfortuntely Byetta can do nothing, because it is not available in Canada.
It's an injectible that is derived from the saliva of the Gila Monster (no kidding) and it is used for BGL control. The beauty of it is that it not only doesn't encourage weight gain like so many diabetes meds, it promotes weight loss. In fact in Europe it is used as a weight loss drug.

Just popping in to post this little link to an article in Everyday Health . . . this must be the report that Rosey was mentioning yesterday . . . wonder when the FDA and Health Canada will wake up to it ????
From the sounds of things it was not exactly a big test from the Actos point of view and it was actually funded by the manufacturer of Actos which always makes the results a little questionable. Once again Avandia suffers the brunt of the attack.
Bottom line . . . if you take EITHER . . . you are probably wise to discuss it with your doctor at your next appointment -- I intend to do just that -- but nothing here is new enough to warrant a panic (just my opinion, of course.)

Hi . . .
Didn't sleep all that well again last night -- don't know why. BGL was 3.9 (70) first thing this morning which is a little lower than I'd like it. Oh well . . . wouldn't it be wonderful it we could just sit at about 5.5 (99-100) at all times and never have to worry about it again. Take off the rose-coloured glasses, Linda -- it ain't gonna happen.
Went to the kitchen to get a :coffee: refill and found the freezer door open and Purrecious poking around inside. Not a fluke either, because after I removed her and made sure the door was closed, she simply popped it open again. She has also figured out how to pull open the folding closet doors, by wedging her paw under then right about the middle where they fold outward when they open -- there's seems to be no end to this girl's talents. Then, when I came up here, I couldn't figure out what the funny little noise was or where it was coming from -- until I found Frack curled up in a little storage box on the top shelf (right up at ceiling level) of the wall unit above my desk. Not even sure how she got there. And having pets is supposed to lower our blood pressure.
Fall is definitely in the air -- the birds are flocking -- driving the cats absolutely insane, of course. It is a lovely sunny and coolish day. High of 18 (low 60's) predicted. Just my favourite kind of weather. No signs of color change on the trees in my yard yet, but imagine there soon will be.
My friend and I have another lunch and shopping tour planned for this afternoon. Hope you all have a great day, too . . . see you soon . . . :carrot:

Hi All! Sorry I've been MIA lately. Things have been so hectic with Sacha recovering from his blockage. I was so stressed waiting for him to get better and running back and forth to the vets and the much money borrowed from Darling Mother to pay for the vet bills. AAGH!
But things have gotten better. Sacha looks great and is back to his normal self. He will be on meds for the rest of his life but that's a small price to pay for my little one.
My sugar has been good. I'm going back to the Dr in October so I'll have a better reading. I prefer to have the lab results than test my sugar everyday - I know, that's not good, but I really can't be bothered. I pretty much eat the same amounts of starchs, meats, and fats everday so my sugar is usually the same.

Hi . . .
Feeling kind of crummy today . . . ache all over and have a bit of a sore throat . . . the weather is looking a lot better than I'm feeling. BGL is okay at 5.1 (92) at breakfast time so at least I'm thankful for that.
BTW . . . the freezer door now has a really 'spiffy' addition -- a wide strip of masking tape to hold it closed. Purrecious hasn't figured out how to get it off -- yet. She is trying though.
Hope everybody else has a good day . . . :grouphug:

Hi everyone,
Meowee, hope you are feeling better this afternoon. Wow those cats of yours are mischevious little devils, well at least life is not boring in your house!
Tomorrow is my weigh in at the dietitian - wish me luck. Afterwards I'm ordering Swiss Chalet (LOL) do you have them in NS?
My Dietitian is going on holidays for a month - so I'll be on my own for 4 weeks. yikes!

Good Morning --
We "yummy" well do have Swiss Chalet down here, THIN. Hope the weigh-in goes well and the chicken does too.
It's raining buckets today . . . That's okay with me since I still don't feel too great anyway. Guess I'll have a stay-at-home-and-do-nothing kind of day. Might do some laundry if I can work up the energy. BGL was okay at 5.3 (95).
I'm out of fresh blueberries again and the local price has mysteriously doubled since the beginning of the week so I think they will be staying in the store. Had protein pancakes made with strawberries for breakfast and while they were pretty good, there was no comparison to the bb's. Guess I'll have to try them with frozen; but will wait until the memory of the 'real-thing' starts to fade away.
Here's a little information article for your reading this morning . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/publicsite/index.aspx?puid=17ad1d3b-878d-48fa-96b1-8c5e4fd46fce&p=24 . . . definitely a new fact for me. Glad I like eating real fish, anyway.
And . . . speaking of fish . . . ever wonder why we say someone "drinks like a fish"? Fish actually don't drink water. They swim with their mouths open and appear to be drinking constantly but all the water they take in passes over their gills to provide them with oxygen.
Hope everybody has lots of great plans for today . . . see you all later . . . :grouphug:

Hi Meowee, blueberries can be pricey sometimes, but the store is nuts to double the cost.
I'm going to be having this tonight (http://www.swisschalet.com/images/menu_ftg.jpg)except with a wholewheat roll and a plain baked potato.

 Now if you want to be really, really good -- have double chicken (no skin), skip the roll altogether and have side salad instead of the potato -- might as well stay home, you say.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing! Actually, I couldn't, too much food and I threw half of it away (well, after the cats got their fair share). :o
I'm not used to eating like that anymore, and although it was good going down, now I feel full and icky. :dizzy:
Now for the good news!!!!!!!!!! I'm in the 160's baby! :carrot::carrot::carrot:
well 169.50 but still it's pretty cool. :D I lost 5.5 pounds since my last weigh in and 45.5 overall.
My dietitian is going on holidays and I am on my own for a month! Next weigh in is October 13th, I'm a little nervous, I really count on her for my check ins and for her pep talks and support.

Good Morning . . . :grouphug:
Hooray for THIN . . . You can do it girl . . . count on us if you need a pep-talk . . . and remember to check your BGL, too. I'm 2 pounds below my ticker this morning -- but only the scale:devil: knows where it will be by my official weigh-day on Wednesday.
Cool and overcast today and my trees are definitely starting to change . . . no way around it now . . . another Summer bites the dust. I'm still not feeling up to par -- sore throat, ear ache and just a general malaise. Hopefully it will be gone soon. My BGL was 5.5 (99) first thing this morning and 4.7 (85) by the time I sat down for breakfast about 1.5 hours later. Some mornings it just takes longer than others for me to get organized.
The terrible trio is six months old now (and finally seem to have figured out the kitty litter thing :crossed:) . . . thought I'd share a few new pictures. In the group shot, reading from bottom to top, we have Frick, Frack, Freckle.
Not much else happening today for me . . . hope everybody is having a great weekend . . . see you soon . . .

Hi gang . . . :grouphug:
I was up nursing a hypo -- 2.6 / 47 -- from 2:30 to 4:30 and then went back to bed and didn't get up again until almost 10 . . . feels like a whole new day to me, but it will be a very short one, I guess. Hate it when that happens because everything is out of kilter for the rest of the day. BGL is back in normal ranges -- 5.5 / 99 -- before my slightly early lunch and my feeding schedule is just about back on track, too. Think I'd better make an appointment with the doctor to discuss cutting out the insulin (with a companion increase in some of my other meds, probably). I'm getting far too many of these lows -- want to stop killing off my few remaining brain cells like this. I'm down to 9 U once a day at bedtime -- gee, my cat Jazz is on a higher dosage of insulin than I am.
On a lighter note . . . here's a little FFFF for you . . .
Do you know why we say that an actor who is not exactly great is a "ham"? The term is an abbreviation of "ham-fatter", the name that 19th century audiences used for amateur actors who tended to outrageously overplay their scenes. Ham-fatter implied second-rate, referring to performing minstrels who had to remove their makeup with ham fat because they couldn't afford cold-cream.
Who needs cold cream when there's 'Oink of Olay'.
Have a great one, gang . . . see you later

Hey everyone! :D
I had a GREAT weekend - I got DRUNK for the first time since ST PATTY'S DAY!!
Of course, I also broke a whole bunch of dietary laws and consumed around 2,400 calories total :o I should have just drank bacardi + diet coke but I went all out and drank strawberry daiquiris, vodka mixed with cranberry juice, vodka mixed with orange juice, and then vodka and red bull. Oh. And a beer. And yes, my blood sugars were still fine ;) - as I'm sure you all know, sugary drinks initially make the blood sugar spike, but the alcohol brings it right back down.
I also went shopping. I can wear a size 6 in Gap clothes now!!!! The pants I bought WERE "relaxed fit" though, but they fit me very comfortably! I got a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans, and a pair of Silvers, as well as a couple cute shirts and a pair of "I'm going to kick your ***" boots. It's REALLY nice to finally go shopping again and not cry every time I try on clothes...
Oh, my BUTT got bigger. My waist has definitely shrunk, but my butt has not. I'm not complaining, because I had a typical flat white girl booty when I was thin, but it sure makes clothes shopping difficult sometimes! :o
Thin: Isn't it crazy how CRAPPY overeating makes you feel when you're no longer used to it? I try to avoid it at all costs because I don't feel like paying the consequences. And CONGRATS for being in the 160's... you've come such a long way!
meowee: eee! Your cats are so cute. That's a very interesting fact about the origin of the "ham" -when I was a kid, everyone called me a ham because I was such an attention w hore. And    @ Oink of Olay

Hi Shane! what was the special occasion for your boozy night? Sounds like a fun time.
Congrats on your size 6 GAP pants, they'll look good with the 'kick your ***' boots :D
I bought a size 12 skirt on the weekend!!! and new shoes because my feet have lost weight (I know that sounds crazy!) but they have and all my shoes were falling off me when I walked - so I needed new ones. I also bought a fall jacket and it was a Medium from just a regular store. A few months ago it would have been a 1X or 2X in a plus store.
Shopping is definitely more fun these days. :carrot:
Last night I had a Mars Bar :o:o:o but my sugars were fine afterwards, I know it was a bad decision, I got stressed out about something and lost it. I'm back on track again now.
Have a good week everyone :)
Meowee - any plans for Thanksgiving in 3 weeks?
NightengaleShane
09-18-2007, 08:29 AM
Thin, YAY size 12!! and even more YAY for the medium jacket! No more plus sizes, eh? :D
And psht, one Mars bar is no big deal! I'm tempted to eat a Zero bar  - vending machines are EEEEEEVIL. Really, though, we're all entitled to junk every now and then. Don't feel bad! :)
I'm wearing my "kick your ***" boots along with a shirt that says "burnout revenge", and those Gap jeans. I look cute... I ...think. :D
As for the special drunken occasion, none in particular. Just that I was due for some drunken times... I didn't even get drunk on my birthday. I just went to a party and we played silly drinking games like Circle of Death. Good times!

Hi Everybody . . . :grouphug:
SHANE . . . Good to see you Girl; we've missed you around here. Big Congratulations on the sexy new clothes . . . I bet you are lookin' really, really hot these days. :high:
THIN . . . Congratulations to you too . . . no more plus-size shopping is one of my greatest dreams. Someday . . . If you want to feel even better, go to the US and you'll be able to buy even smaller sizes.
I have nothing special planned for Canadian Thanksgiving -- I usually go to Ontario to be with relatives, but since I was booked for surgery on September 20 (I cancelledand that's another long story), that plan was on the shelf anyway -- may go at Christmas. Jazz and his twice a day insulin shots makes things difficult. I hate to ask my friend to come over twice a day, especially if the weather is bad. Alternatively, I hate the idea of boarding him at the Vet's over the holidays, too -- pretty stressful and that's not good for a diabetic either. Final alternative of taking him with me would probably be even more stressful for him.
I'm getting a late start around here today . . . had to take Jazz to the Vet for his regular bloodwork. He was okay to get into the carrier although not exactly happy. But you should have seen the kittens -- the minute I brought out the carrier, they took off in three different directions -- don't think they've forgotten their trip to the Vet last month.
It's a lovely sunny morning -- coolish and very foggy first thing -- but the temperature is supposed to hit the low to mid 20's (low 70's) this afternoon and to continue like that for most of the week. Looks like we are getting a bit of Indian Summer after all.
My BGL was 6.0 (108) this morning which is a little higher than I usually am but since I skipped my insulin last night (on purpose) I'd say it was very acceptable . . . and I definitely liked actually sleeping until 7 am without the middle-of-the-night hypo.
Here's another little FFF for you . . . Why does orange juice taste terrible right after you brush your teeth? . . . toothpaste contains a chemical detergent called sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) which reacts with the natural acids in the orange juice reducing the sweetness and producing an unpleasant and bitter aftertaste.
And another little gem, that springs to mind as I sit here typing which is probably only going to ring true for we oldsters . . . back in the days of the manual typewriter (OMG that's so long ago), you burned about 15 more calories per hour than when doing the same stuff on a computer keyboard.
Well that concludes the dose of useless information for today, gang . . . hope you all have a great day . . . see you later . . . :carrot:

Sorry I've been MIA for a week or so. I've had it rough. I'm giving up my strict diet and I'm just going to try eating to maintain for right now, I dont think I can really handle anything more.
My mom called me from Illinois on Thursday, saying that my puppy had died in her sleep. She was my 13th birthday present, and only 6 when she died from puppy cancer. I cried pretty much all weekend, and wasnt in any sort of mood to take care of myself. I forgot my long acting insulin twice since, but I'm back on track really. Except I now have strep throat.
Apparently, I really weakened my "non existent" immune system by crying so much, and I made myself susceptible to strep. I've had a sore throat for 2 weeks now, so that must have been the final straw on the camel's back.
I'm going to have my a1c done on monday morning...I'm not expecting it to be fantastic. Hopefully it wont be out of control though. Lower than my last one which was 8.something or 9.something down from 12.something
Congrats THIN on being in the 160's must feel awesome!

Just picked Jazz up . . . there must be something in the water around here . . . the cat is experiencing severe lows, too. We are going to cut him back to 3 units twice a day. That came as a big surprise. since he's putting on so much weight, I expected he would be needing more insulin, not less. the Vet says sometimes cats just go into spontaneous remission.
Additionally, the Vet wants me to start testing his BGL two or three times a day, too. Have to prick that prominent vein that runs around the outside edge of the ear -- wow that sounds painful to me -- we'll see how he puts up with that. Poor baby . . . Poor me, if he decides we aren't going to sit still for this.
ROSEY . . . I just love trivia so I tend to collect it from many sources. Most of the food related stuff comes from a series of cookbooks by a pair of Canadian sisters - Janet and Greta Podleski - their cookbooks have good recipes, too.

Hi everybody . . . :grouphug:
Second night without any insulin. Slept very poorly. Terrible leg cramps kept coming and going throughout the night and that is often a sign of high BGL. This morning the BGL is 7.1 (128). Guess the 'no insulin regimen' isn't the answer either. And . . . since it is official weigh-in morning . . . naturally my weight is up again, too. I think I'm doomed to look at 228 forever. :(
Another beautiful Indian Summer Day is happening in northern Nova Scotia. Hope they just keep coming and coming. Got a call late last night from my SIL's oldest son. He and his wife are in NS (from Ontario) and will be dropping in today. So that probably helped to contribute to my restless night. They won't be staying beyond today since they go back to Ontario on Friday; but it will be nice to see them for even a quick little visit.
Here's an article that popped into my mail slot this morning about the combination of Aerobic and Weight exercises being the best for controlling sugar levels . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/publicsite/ShowArticle.aspx?IsP=news/608/news608254.xml&cen=HC:%20Diabetes . . . insteresting, but I do think there is one flaw in the study. The group that combined the two kinds of exercise did a total of twice as much time exercising so (IMHO) of course they were going to get better overall results.

Good Morning . . . :grouphug:
Looks like we are in for another beautiful day on good old Indian Summer. Nice -- will be doing the lunch and shopping run with my neighbour/friend later today.
Another night with no bedtime insulin and another high-normal BGL -- 7.1 / 128 -- this morning. Would like it a little lower, but have to admit that I feel a lot better than when I wake up with a hypo. Of course I also slept a lot better last night too - not worrying about the possibility of a hypo (among other things).
Stupid scale definitely still hates me -- as I mentioned yesterday, following my normal pattern -- Sunday / 226 -- Wednesday (official day) / 230 -- Thursday / 227 -- Sooooo, once again, I'll just leave it at 228 for another week. Boy this gets tiresome. :(
Had a lovely afternoon with the relatives. They decided to go on to PEI rather than spend the night here since they were trying to see as much of the area as possible in a week. Oh to be young and have that much energy. :)
Wish I had thought to get a picture of my nephew dressed for going outside in a long-sleeved hoodie, neckband, full beard, etcetera. Looks so weird. Poor guy is allergic to the sun. Five minutes of sun on his skin and he's literally covered in blisters. Can't remember what the condition is called, maybe I'll look it up later. As his wife says -- he looks like a nerd, but at least he's outside in the fresh air. He even has a 'disabled parking' permit because of it -- but most of the time won't take advantage of it because he finds it embarrassing to get stared at even more.
ROSEY . . . I test at least twice and sometimes as often as four times a day. But I do agree, I can usually tell if I'm high and I can definitely tell when I'm running low. Could be that Daisy will want a coat. Just like people, some annimals feel the temperature changes more than others. My big, hairy one (Mouse) really feels the heat (which seems logical, with all that hair), but he also really feels the cold too. He's the first one to go hide under the covers on a cold morning.
Nothing else is new around here. Have a great day doing lots of fun stuff, gang . . . see you later . . .:D

Hi everyone - my BG was 5.4 this morning (97.2) and I'm feeling pretty good.
I've been good since the mars bar incident and I've been doing my cardio every day (1 hour)
Only 8 weeks until my cruise and the balance of payment went through with a fabulous exchange rate as the Canadian Dollar is on par with the USD$. Never thought I'd see the day - I'm used to paying 1.15 - 1.25 exchange when I buy something, so this is a big savings for me.
Well, I'm off to do my cardio now... see you all later - hope everyone is having fine weather like we are in Toronto, an absolutely glorious day.

We got a reprieve from our landlady, she's giving us another 6 months here, so we may be able to achieve a mortgage when moving time comes round again.
Thanks for the sympathy, I really really miss my Kenzie Peg, and I cant believe she's gone. We were going to visit my Parent's at Thanksgiving, but a few weeks ago we learned we wont have enough money to go. And to be honest, I dont think I could handle it now, visiting my old home...without Kenzie there, because that was her home too. We got her shortly after the house was built.

Good Morning again . . . :grouphug:
Still not feeling up to par . . . partly because my blood sugar levels are still being so erratic . . . hope it gets back in sync soon. I was a nasty 8.6 (155) this morning. Since I am really afraid to go back to nightime insulin (those lows get awfully scarey after a few in a row), I decided to try an after breakfast shot for a few days. Will let you know how that works out; at least I'll be awake if I start to drop too low. :)
At least our weather is still being really, really kind to us. Keep it coming Mama Nature.
ROSEY . . . get your DH to read some of the posts in the Weight-Loss-Surgery forum. It is NOT the be-all; end-all answer either . . . apparently it still takes a lot of work to lose and even more to maintain no matter what route you choose.
The Canadian Arthritis Society has been running a little ad on our local TV station the past couple of days -- one thing they are saying is a real eye-opener (maybe the rest of you have heard it before, but it was new to me) . . . Every ten pounds of weight you lose reduces the stress on your knees, ankles, and feet by an amount equivalent to forty pounds . . . wowee! Let's get cracking gang . . . :carrot:
Kittens (and cats) are being good. Eating is pretty good. Exercise (well ) has never been one of my strong points -- must do better.
Have a great day gang . . . See you later . . .

Hi Rosey
You can chose your friends, but you're stuck with your relatives (for better or for worse!) I think you are doing the right thing, surgery is more than physical, you have to be mentally prepared for what it all entails and it can be very hard on your overall health and recovery. From what you said, you are doing things the right way, your way. :)
Hi Meowee! hope you are feeling a bit better now and your BG is back to normal. We are having great weather here too.
Have you been out for any walks? that will get your exercise in. Keep trying!
Hi again Rosey, glad you are feeling a bit better today :)
Well, I went shopping again - you can probably tell I'm a bit of a shopper :o but I didn't buy anything for me, I bought 2 formal gowns for my 13 year old daughter for this cruise we are going on in November.
She tried on a million gowns :dizzy: (or so it felt) and settled on 2, one is red with sparkles and one is pale blue - she can't wait to wear them. :D
We have 2 formal nights, one semi formal and the rest are smart casual. I pulled out my formal clothes from the last cruise I went on and they were just sooooo big on me, totally unwearable unless I had them altered. I am going to get a few new things but not until closer to the time, I'm hoping to lose another 10 - 15 lbs by the time we leave (Nov 19)
I've been good all week, no cheating, no temptations, doing my cardio (except I got interrupted twice when my husband came home) but all in all a really good week for me.
See you all tomorrow - have a nice evening

Good Morning Gang . . . :grouphug:
Silly weather report for today says mild and sunny . . . so far it is cloudy and windy? Seems like my latest insulin idea (a morning shot yesterday but none at bedtime) worked out fairly well -- 5.3 (95) at dinnertime yesterday and 5.2 (94) first thing this morning -- so I'll do the same again today and see where things go.
Just had a nice breakfast of HF cereal with mixed berries and skim milk. Pretty good eating day yesterday, too, and the scale says 227 this morning . . . of course, since it doesn't count :(. . . by Wednesday, when it does??? -- only the scale:devil: knows for sure what he may feel like by then.
Nothing too exciting on my agenda for today . . . need some apples and egg whites, so guess I'll have to do a little grocery run . . . other than that SSDD.
Here's a little food-related giggle for today . . . There are no grapes in grapefruit; no eggs in eggplant; no horse in horseradish; no ham in hamburger; and neither pine or apples in pineapple. English muffins were not invented in England and french fries did not originate in France. And . . . think about this one . . . if a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat???? :o
Hope you all have a great moving and shaking good time on the go. See you soon . . .

Hey you guys, I was sick this afternoon, I don't know what happened but it was barf-a-rama, It was after I took my metformin - so should I take another?
meowee
09-24-2007, 08:40 AM
Good Morning . . . :grouphug: . . . BTW, where have our regulars disappeared to?
Yes ROSEY, Wednesday is my official weigh-in day and for some reason known only to the scale-, usually the day my weight is at it's highest. I'm at 226.2 this morning. Wonder where I'll be by Wednesday. I've got my :crossed:
Absolutely THIN, keep taking the meds. One event does not a pattern make. More often than not, that kind of 'barf-fest' is the result of a bit of tainted food. If it keeps happening over a few days, then it's time to talk to your doctor about the Metformin. Usually, though, the Met causes problems at the very beginning and those symptoms ameliorate over time.
It is darn cold in northern Nova Scotia this morning. Temperature is 13C/55F and that's the predicted high for the day. :yikes: It's also overcast. If the sun would be kind enough to put in an appearance it would probably warm up. The current prediction for the next few days is for considerably warmer. temps. Hope it's right. BGL was 6.1 (110) this morning. a bit higher than yesterday, but definitely within acceptable bounds, so I'll keep on with the single shot of insulin in the AM. -- which reminds me, it's time.
Woke up to a cat squabble this morning. The three adults were all puffy-tailed and snarling at each other. The kittens were all lined up in a row watching. Who knows what happened. It was all over with as soon as I slapped breakfast on the floor. ;) Everything seems fine now.
Here is a really good video for you . . . most of the stuff I'm sure you've heard before, but it's nice to have it all brought together in one place. BTW, no Lipitor commercial, for a change. Hope you enjoy it . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/Publicsite/Healthology/VideoTranscript.aspx?category=diabetes&cvalue=1927 . . .
Anyway, I hope everybody has a great moving and shaking kind of day planned. See you again really soon . . .

Hi Meowee, I think you misunderstood me... I was sick about an hour after taking my pill - so I wondered if I should take another right away (because the last one was gone :o )
I didn't take another, and my BG was a little high this morning but still okay.
I don't know what happened to me, I was just soo sick - it had nothing to do with the meds though. Today I've been eating very gingerly because I am still not 100%.
I can't believe it got so cold so fast! We are still having the Indian Summer and it's gorgeous out.
Hi Rosey, Daisy sound like a lot of fun :D

Hi again . . . :grouphug:
We did have a touch of sun first thing this morning, but it has now retreated. Hope it comes back. BGL was 6.6 (119) this morning. Not exactly a great number. I have a doctor's appointment for October 11. In the meantime, guess I'll go back to two shots of insulin a day, but at a lower level than before. Will be interesting to find out what my A1C is doing. At least all is quiet with the feline family (although somebody - Freckle is the suspect - did do a little TP chewing in the middle of the night).
Here's a cute little FFFF for you . . . Bet you didn't know that tea bags where created around 1900 by a New York tea merchant named Tom Sullivan. He decided to wrap samples of his latest collection of new tea imports in little silk bags for presentation to his 'special' customers, never thinking that they would brew the tea, bag and all. He created quite a brew-ha-ha. And the rest (as they say) is History.
Nothing big on my agenda today, gang. Hope you have a fun one planned. See you later. . .

Okay, I have a question for you guys... I use a step thingy for my cardio everyday... and I do it for an hour.. 20 minutes leading with my left foot, 20 with my right and then 20 alternating, and during the hour I use my arms too, until I get to tired and then I drop them.
Well, I had my hubby make my step higher, it's almost double and today was my first time using it. I was dying after 15 minutes - I could only do 10 minutes leading with Left, 10 with right and then I did the full 20 minutes alternating (because it seems to be less of an impact) and then I did 5 and 5 and had to stop and sit down, I was totally winded and beat, but I hardly used my arms at all, it was just too hard.
So here is my question... is it better to do a full hour on the lower step using my arms? or is it better to do 50 minutes on the higher step and be sweaty and beat but not use my arms?

THIN: I think it is important to increase the intensity of your workout. If you are getting sweaty and winded, I would say you are working harder and getting a better cardio workout. In Bill Phillips book, Body For Life, he tells you to work out for 20 minutes, and keep pressing yourself to work harder, reaching for a 10 in intensity. I think that makes sense. Then I have read too, that longer is better. Maybe it would be good to alternate? One day do the longer, less intense workout, then the next day do the more intense. Whatever you decide, do keep increasing your intensity to increase your level of fitness.

Okay :o . . . I'm back and I've calmed down a little. Had coffee; wrestled the garbage to the curb; fed everybody; -- and banished the nasty scale:devil: to the corner.
After three days of reading 226 . . . now that it is my official weigh-in morning, he had the audacity to register 228 AGAIN . . . we have been doing this same routine for two month's now. Let's see how he likes standing face to the wall for a while. He won't be coming out until the end of the month -- I know, it's not far off -- but it is a Sunday (usually one of my low days). Maybe this will at least break the pattern of the personal vendetta he has going for me. Then he will return to the corner until the end of October (a Wednesday ) Hopefully Mr. Scale:devil: will learn some manners by then.
BGL was a nasty 7.1 (128) this morning. Honestly think it was mostly because I didn't test until after my twilight zone encounter with the scale. Amazing what a little stress can do. Weather is playing strange again, too. After two dull days, the sun is shining but it is quite humid. Wonder what the next few days will bring?
BTW . . . I think Monet gave you a very good answer, THIN . . . there are definitely varying schools of thought on the subject and it's always a good idea to mix things up a little.

You might find today, dear Pisces, that it's almost impossible to be patient with others and yourself. With the influence from this day's aspects, irritation, impatience, and anger are all likely to be felt stronger and quicker than usual. If things don't fall into place, rather than getting upset, consider leaving it for another day. Don't be too hard on yourself or others. Further, biting your tongue might save you in the long run.

Hi Monet :)
The heightening is permanent so I can't switch back and forth. I can have him lower it back to how it was, but it will have to stay that way.
Today my thighs & calves were aching - so I guess this is a good thing and I will just aim to get better at using higher one! I've come a long way as when I started using the step-thingy I could only do 10 or 15 minutes TOTAL 3 days a week, now I do an hour a day.

Well I have 2 functions to attend this week, on Friday night a cocktail party - so I will eat my good dinner before I go and hopefully not be tempted by any delicious appetizers :o
and then Saturday night there is a dinner at the Golf Club. I really wish I could skip these things because they either stress me out, make me feel deprived, or induce a meltdown where I eat bad stuff. :(

Up way to early this morning -- fed the cats and picked up everything they knocked over during the night -- had my coffee -- checked my BGL (6.1 / 110) -- wondering what to do next.
At least the scale:devil: is still safely in the corner having his little 'time-out'. So I can't even rant about him.
Exercise on Thursday is usually a "shop 'til you drop" with my buddy LouLou; but today it just might be "clean the garage" instead. Will see how things feel once I find out what the weather is going to be like. It is only now starting to get light out there.
FFFF -- Sucking a lemon, or sipping undiluted, unsweetened, lemon juice, can stimulate saliva flow in some one who has chronic dry mouth. Use with moderation, though, because it has been said that highly acidic lemon juice can actually dissolve a pearl. Continued 'lemon-sucking' can be harmful to your 'pearly whites'.
Hope you all have great plans for the day . . . see you later . . .

Hi Crime girl, welcome to the thread! So tell us how you are doing? are you type 1 or 2?
I was diagnosed with type 2 in May and I'm doing pretty well.
Hi Meowee, I'm almost afraid to click on that Alzheimers article :o I really do not want there to be a link to Diabetes :dizzy: I'm forgetful enough as it is!
You guys would have been so proud of me today. I had to leave work early to take my daughter to the doctors. After her appointment we stopped by the mall to get a few things, I hadn't eaten since breakfast and I thought about going into a restaurant for lunch, I was so close to going in - but at the last moment (and at the door) decided nope, we're going home. I had my regular healthy meal of grilled chicken, veggies and brown rice. Then I did an hour of cardio..
Tonight we had a party to go to, there was TONS of food, spring rolls, deep fried lobster, roti, wraps, meatballs, rack of lamb, lasagna, tarts, cakes, squares.... and I had.......
a tea with sweetener, a water & a coffee with sweetener
... not one morsal of food passed my lips :carrot:
It was pretty tough, everywhere I looked people were eating, a couple of times the room was just spinning, I swear everyone was chewing! I kept thinking about my trip, and the clothes I want to buy before I go and the formal nights where I want to look really nice. That kept me from devouring the cheesecake.
Tomorrow night I have a dinner at my husband's club, I talked to the food & beverage manager tonight, they are doing a special low fat/no salt dinner for me and a fruit plate for dessert. I am trying so hard to do as well as I can, only 7 1/2 weeks until our trip.

There's a special introduction thread where you can read about most of us and stick in some more details about yourself. There are also lot's and lot's of bits of valuable information threads and links in that Sticky section as well.
:high: THIN . . . you are so right . . . I'm very proud of you. Just watch out for hypos Chickie. Hope you are carrying glucose tabs with you.
My day is definitely not shaping up well. Started out with great intentions --
(1) Looked at 'Buddy Ball' (admit that I haven't been spending time with him lately) and decided he needed a little air. Found the pump and brought him back up to par. (2) Dug out the Crazy Frog video; stuck it in the DVD; lots of sound, no picture --"somebody" managed to completely disconnect the video cable and then chewed a hole in it. -- All I know for sure is that I don't chew on wires, so it wasn't me. Unless I've been 'sleep-chewing'. (3) Hunted around and found an old cable (Works sporadically at best; but I kept it for emergencies; isn't it nice that one came along.) Hooked everything up again. Yippee, we have both sound and picture now.
BTW, I had a couple of cups of coffee in there too and it is now two hours since I started this 'must exercise before breakfast' crap. My BGL was a nasty 6.8 (122) first thing. Checked it again, and it's dropped to 5.3 (95).
(4) Anyway, since everything is finally connected, figure I'll do a few minutes of energetic bouncing before I eat -- turned around, sat on the ball, and thought I wasn't going to stop until I hit the floor. :yikes: The air is seeping out somewhere. (5) Finally just said to the  with it . . . Made protein panckes for breakfast, and then came up here. So much for my morning exercise. Guess I'm going shopping later for another new video cable (don't trust the one that's on there now) and a new stability ball.
Oh yes . . . the weather is still raining (or maybe it's raining again), whatever; it is not improving my mood any.
Hope everybody else is having a great morning . . . see you all later:grouphug:

Hi Meowee,
A buddy ball, wow those things scare me, I think I would fall off, I am pretty clumsy. Those bad kitties of yours LOL, they love to chew. Is your freezer still taped shut?
I don't get low BG readings ever. I've never seen it under 4.8 even if I don't eat for hours, I had my regular dinner before I went to the party and I don't eat in the evenings, so there was no chance of me going low. I had a few comments/compliments on my weightloss last night, it was pretty cool.

Hi everyone!
Thanks for the warm welcome. To answer the questions- I am Type 2 diabetic and am on Byetta ( which I love) and Metformin. I am doing ok so far with everything except I fall off the wagon on occasion with the meds which is not good especially with the Byetta. I get so busy that I eat when I get home and don't do my Byetta which I have to wait 30 minutes after taking to eat. Sigh! :(
Thin- Fantastic job not eating anything- I know that was hard and you should be proud of yourself! :carrot: I am guessing your trip is the one at the bottom of your ticker- sounds like a ton of fun!
Meow-You had me laughing so loudly with your morning mishaps! I was watching a couple of kittens for a few weeks for a friend and they can be sneaky. I am guessing you are not chewing the cord yourself in the middle of the night. LOL!
I have to ask - what are BG readings?

Eventually taking the meds becomes a habit . . . although even I forget once in awhile. BTW, Byetta is not available in Canada. :(
BG = Blood Glucose
BGL = Blood Glucose Level
. . . looks better than BS (Blood Sugar). . . but it is the same thing and something we usually all post first thing.
Thin and I are in Canada and we use a different scale than you do in the US -- actually, a better way to say that would be -- in the US, you use a different scale than the rest of the world does. Anyway, we usually remember to translate. To go from Canadian to US, multiply by 18 -- i.e., our 5.0 x 18 = your 90.
See you soon . . .

Thanks for the clarification- I am bad about checking my blood glucose levels too. I know that is something I need to get better about.
I am sorry Byetta is not available in Canada because it is a miracle drug. Hopefully you guys will get it soon. It has helped so much with my weight loss-it makes you feel full all the time. It use to make me a little sick to my stomach but now it is good and keeps things in balance.

Good Morning everybody . . . :grouphug:
Well, it is Sunday. Hope everybody has been having a great weekend. My BGL was a nasty little 7.0 (126) this morning. Life with this disease is definitely not fun sometimes. :( Weather is still overecast and pretty cool, High of 13C (55F) predicted for today, but they are saying the sun will be coming out. Hope so.
Here's a little FFFF for today . . . as we know, everybody is putting an emphasis on more healthy eating and drinking these days . . . but . . . did you know -- most restaurants mark-up the price of bottled water by 300% to 500% :yikes: -- the mark-up on wine is only 100% to 150% . . . what's wrong with this picture. Wow.
Have a great day . . . drink lots of water (at home, preferrably). See you soon . . .

Hi everyone!
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Glad you found us!

Thanks
I had another challenge last night at my husbands golf club and again, I did really good. I had a club soda to drink, I had the same salad as everyone else (even though I requested low fat dressing - they forgot) then as everyone had prime rib with scalloped potatoes and buttered almond green beans, they brought me my own plate with a small steak, no salt, no butter, & steamed vegetables. Then for dessert everyone had warm apple tarts with cinnamon ice cream, they brought me a fresh fruit plate. :carrot:

Hi Meowee, my BG was 6.2 this morning and I'm feeling okay. We are still having glorious weather in Toronto, sunshine and the trees changing, so pretty. I love this time of year.
I made my daughter a grilled cheese sandwich before I went out yesterday and left the butter out by mistake, well today there were little buttery paw prints on the kitchen counter and 'tongue prints' on the butter :dizzy:

Good afternoon everyone!
I just got back from the gym- I walked an hour at 3.2 mph so I am full of energy now. :woohoo:
Thin - I am so impressed by your resolve. You are truly an inspiration. Even though I am determined to lose I don't know if I could have your strength in that situation. Congrats to you! :bravo:
Meow- I agree with you- something is out of wack that water is so expensive. I have to admit though- I buy really expensive water but I love it! If the taste improvement I think it has is purely in my head please don't tell me because I love my bottled water. :D

Just passing through! My BG is still running high in the mornings...I can't seem to get it down for anything. I upped my glimperide, that didn't work, reduced my carb intake at dinner, that didn't help, exercised at night, and that didn't help. I am stymied.
I am waiting on my kiln to shut off. I wish it would hurry up because I am going to go bonkers if I have to wait until late tomorrow afternoon to open it!
Hi CRIME GIRL! Welcome! I am on Byetta too. When I first started on it, it kept my bg perfect! It was so awesome! I lost about 10 pounds, then the weight loss stopped, and now my bg is slowly creeping up again. I am kind of worried about that....no, not worried, I get MAD about it!
MEOWEE: I am testing that glaze you liked..I hope it looks as good on my test piece as that sample did. I will let you know.
