Weight Loss Surgery - energy level

I have just received my lap band approval letter from my insurance company and I am so excited............ my only major concern is if I should expect to have even less energy than I have now and how long that will last. I am sluggish already, carrying around all this weight and I can't imagine having even less energy. Is this something I should worry about after surgery?
Thanks,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Congratulations on getting your letter. You will feel sluggish the first few weeks after surgery because of a few reasons. One is the surgery itself and the other is your not going to be eating as many calories as you are now. But once your on solid foods (for me it was my 5th week but each doctor has different guidelines, what does your doc say?) you'll start to feel better and once the weight starts to come off you'll feel even more better. Exercising usually is not permitted until after 6 weeks of surgery or your next visit to the doctor so don't do anything to hurt your insides until he/she gives you the okay....promise !!
IMHO its good to expect this but don't worry about it, don't put your body through more stress then necessary, and remember slow IS good.
Good luck and let us know how your doing.

I think everyone is different. I had my surgery on May 3rd and on the 7th, I was back out and doing my regular morning walk. The only thing I noticed was I did get worn out if I was up and about for more than 4 hours at a time.
Congrats on your approval letter! :) And good luck with your surgery. :)

hi Debbie,
congrats ... i've had my lap band for almost 11 months and it was the best thing i have done for myself.
i had my surgery on a Monday and by Thursday i was back to almost 100% normal. i could have gone into work on Friday, but wanted to take the extra just in case..
just remember to take it slow and baby yourself the first few days.
best of luck to you!

Congratulations to you on your approval letter.I am pre-op for ssf Kaiser for gastric bypass surgery.I see the surgeon thursday.I was wondering if you could share why you picked lapband over gbs? Just wondering for myself.I will be talking to the surgeon next week and will ask questions what he thinks would be best for me.
Take care
