Question HELP! Phase 1 and Blood sugar dropping too low

Hi all! I have Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome, which causes insulin resistance. I did SBD last summer and lost 30 lbs. in 2 months (most was due to insulin resistance, I was under dr.'s care). I gained back what I lost due to infertility medication side effects (no baby, just extra weight ).

I decided to start back on phase 1 and I am on day 7. I am not craving sweets, however, I believe my blood sugar is dropping too low. I have dizzy, blurry vision when I stand up, nervousness, restless sleeping, cold clammy skin, etc. Classic low blood sugar symptoms.

Is there any way to remedy this and not blow it on Phase 1? Can I have just enough sugar to bring my blood sugar back up? Or, should is it time to move on to phase 2 where I can have small amounts of sugar?

Anyone else experience this problem? Of course, it happens on a Sunday when the Doc's office is closed

Thanks for your help!

Do you have a kit so you can check your BGL at home? If not, it might be a wise investment, since this sounds very scary! Please ask your doctor for advise on this, we'd hate to steer you wrong.

Good luck, and please let us know how you are

If you make sure to have the allowed legumes and milk, your BGL should stay in the acceptable range. Unless you test your blood, you really can't tell if it's dropped. Remember this is a GOOD Catb plan and eating the allowed foods should keep you stable.

Tori, sorry to hear about the bad side effects of the infertility treatments...I hope you see some good effects soon!

As for the blood sugar, as Ruth said it's hard for it to drop low as long as you are getting enough protein and the good carbs you're allowed in P1 (beans, legumes, bell peppers, tomatoes, milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.). Are you getting enough of those? Try making some homemade 3 bean salad, if you like that, or have some bell peppers with hummus or some tomatoes with mozzerella and basil. Okay?

Let us know how you are doing...and it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor today, even if you're feeling better. At one point on SBD, I had really low blood pressure and it caused little mini 'black outs' when I stood up from sitting or squatting to look at something on a low shelf. It got better with time, but it was reassuring to talk with my doctor and understand what was going on.

That is a good point, Laurie. I've had to watch my blood pressure too since there have been times as I've lost weight (or donated blood) that my blood pressure has dropped too low and I've been dizzy. You might want to check that. I have a home BP monitor (and my husband has a home glucose monitor) but I haven't noticed problems in phase 1.

What is your typical menu in phase 1? You probably could benefit from more milk and legumes. Try the taco bake. It is a wonderful phase 1 meal and will get you the healthy carbs you may be lacking.
