Ugh, I feel terrible! I have lost 22 pounds in 2 months and I swear I look fatter than ever. I took a new picture today and cried like a baby because while I feel different I look worse.:(

Anyone else having this problem first starting out on their diets?

I'd first like to say congratulations on the 22 lb loss-you should be EXTREMELY proud! I think it's really hard to look at ourselves and see our own weight loss-go figure! You don't mind me asking but what do you feel looks worse in your after picture? Did you take a before picture and comparing side by side or did you just take a pic of yourself and maybe being too critical of yourself?

Way back when I was much slimmer and during that particular weigh loss journey as my weight went down I went through some "odd" stages-see I tend to lose in my bust first then my calves so I kind of had a small bust, wider belly and hips, then skinny legs! Oh, I'll poke some more fun at myself because I lose in my face quickly too and went through a "tiny head" stage and belive me my head normally does not look tiny so that was an interesting stage!!!!! I just took it all in stride enjoying the fact that the numbers were coming down and the clothes were getting looser.

Please don't get discouraged. You are doing great and I'm sure you don't look worse. Focus on the positive!!!!! Dry those tears and keep your head up high!!!!

I totally get this too. I feel the same at 225 as I did at 255- some days I actually feel fatter. I don't see a difference at all - even in pics. But I know it's there - and you do too! Keep plugging away - you'll get there!

This is why I think it is VERY important to take measurements! Even if you are only doing your bust (fullest part), waist, and hips, you have something to go by, and see progress in. Also, if you take photos periodically, take them full body, and in similar clothing (shorts, workout wear, etc.).

Aphil - that's a great idea. I will start doing it. I always have trouble with self image because I get (mentally) stuck with my big flabby stomach. I just start to feel I'm looking better and then sit down and see it sticking out! :o Since I know that's going to be the case for a while then measuring every so often would help.

endlessly - yes, I have the same problem. Mostly with my belly. I just can't see it as anything other than post-3 kids flabby. I've also had some confidence crises recently thinking that I still thought of myself as fat last time I was at my goal weight (in my 20's). But I'm working on banishing them to a long way away. You've done great and will continue to do so!

i have this problem big time too. i look at myself and still see the 275lb girl i used to be. i've found what helps is to put on my big pajama pants that used to be tight on me, now i can pull them up to my shoulders!

i've done this many times. Just keep in mind the camera adds 10 lbs.

I think it really helps as well to keep one piece of your old clothing to try on when you feel fat. Don't keep your whole wardrobe, because you don't want to ever have them to fall back on-but one pair of pants, etc. to try and and show that you are now swimming in them. :D

Great advice Aphil! :)

I too have felt "fat" even though I have lost weight but I find that looking back at my weight loss journal and before measurements let's me see how far I have come.

Don't get discouraged - you have done well so far! :cheer:
