Default Isn't it funny how clothes sizes vary....

I have read posts by lots of people here, and I still find it interesting that two people can weigh the same and were different sizes. In different threads I have seen people posting that they are around my weight and were a size 18 or 20. I am 236 now, and am fit into a 22, I don't see me going into a 20 until I hit the 220's.
Until I was way out of my teenage years I didn't realize that we all come in different sizes. I always thought I had to be a size 6, and it was because of my weight that I couldn't, now I understand that my body shape , a size 6 is hard, almost impossible. I really think that we need to emphasize to our daughter's that not all people can be a size 6, it just isn't possible. We are all different and all bodies are different.
I am sorry for this confusing post, just wanted to write what I have been feeling.

And to add to the confusion, all the sizes at the different stores are different. (Lane Bryant now has 0 to size 6!)

A lot of it has to do with bone structure and how much muscle you have. The last time I was weight training I was this weight and wearing 20's but now I'm just fitting into 24s! Plus yeah that whole vanity sizing bit.

Add to all that the whole insanity of clothes sizing generally. I have clothes in my closet ranging from petite XS to L and they all fit.

I hear you! After losing 52 pounds, I still haven't dropped a full size. Granted, there are things that didn't fit me in this size previously that do now, but even that doesn't make sense! At my thinnest (166) I still wore a 14. I think my bare bones would still have to squeeze into a 10.

Come to Canada for a real dose. lol We have sooo many size differences here. Sizes run smaller then in the States. Since I moved here and mind you I did lose weight Ive had to go up two sizes. I wear size 4x shirts and they're tight. On top of that a lot of stores carry Asian clothing which is erm.. impossible for me. I had a few 3X and 4x shirts and couldn't get them on my head.

I totally agree! When I started I had "grown" into a 20. I began to lose weight and started to fit back into my 18, then 16 then I didn't have any clothes left. I went to the store to buy a pair of pants and had to get a 18! After losing 37 lbs! All the sizes drive me crazy! Jelly

I'm envious of my husband...he needs clothes, he gets a pair with the waist and length measurement that he needs. Boom. End of story. I don't understand why mens clothes are that way and women's aren't. Ok, I guess I can see how some women would rather say they need a size x than admit their waist size. Whatever. I'm over that. If we can't have measurement based sizes, we should at least have a universal size chart. It irks me. Hubby can catalog and online shop if he wants. Me....nooooooo...have to be able to try things on, otherwise it's return-city.

I'll get off my rant now.

If you need a confidence booster- check out Lucky Brand jeans. Talk about vanity sizing! Yesterday I bought a pair in a size 8, yes 8! I'm 165 people! I was smaller than this in high school and wore a size 13... So confusing.

Not all guy clothing is the same. I wear a size 48 in jeans and kackys. My work pants are 50's and they are tight. My suit pants are 54s. and my boxers are 46/48s. All cause they are cut differently and my work pants just don't have enough seat room.

My shirts are either 3 or 4x dress shirts I need to find 20s

My friend she went from a size 12 to a size 2/0 at victory secrets. In less then a year. But she had a medical issue tho and it damn near killed her and a side effect to her problem was weight loss.

An another friend of mine his diet is Reese peanut butter cups, chocolate milk, and Wendy's chicken sandwich and French fries and he were 29s WTH! I look at a Reese peanut butter cup and I gain a pound. He does however play basketball 4hrs a day nearly 7 days a week and is a gym rat.

I always heard that the more expensive the clothing, the smaller size you will wear. I remember that being true when I had the money to buy expensive clothes.

Also, muscle weighs much more than fat. When I was in my early 20's, I worked a very physical job. I must have had pretty much muscle mass, because I wore a size 8 and weighed 155 lbs, and I'm 5'7".

I will just rejoice on the day I can buy clothes in a non-plus sized store. I think that's a 14 or 16, right?

Muscle is more dense than fat, and therefore more compact. So, when you gain muscle in place of fat you are compacting your body, so to speak. But 1 pound of muscle = 1 pound of fat = 1 pound of chicken feathers = 1 pound of whatever. Sorry...for some reason hearing "muscle weighs more than fat" is a peeve of mine.

Actually the reason I've heard is it's because of the military. And I think they (the US government) attempted to make a universal size chart for women in... maybe 94, but no one used it.

So the fault is squarely with the designers. Although I've heard Old Navy has vanity sizing in men's jeans.
