Question Do you ever stop taking Metformin?

I have been taking it for a year, and I was wondering - assuming you lose the weight and begin ovulating again and whatnot - is there ever a point when a person may no longer need the assitance of metformin? If the answer is "only if you take BCPs" then it's a "no" for me, as these are not an option due to personal convictions. I just wondered if you could make a full recovery from PCOS and send it packing, or if you're pretty much stuck being on meds the rest of your life?

with weight loss i took it to get pg with my first child and the reproductive endicrinologist put me on it then took me off of it when we saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks.. they are getting ready to put me on it again but, i would rather work on losing the weight .. you'll always have pcos but, with weightloss you can make things more manageable.

Hi there,

Ive got PCOS, and when I started Metformin, my doc said once I get my weight down, it should control itself. Soooooo, that being said, there is hope to get off that stuff once the weight is under control.

Good luck

I just got back on Metformin myself and that's what my doctor said to lose most of my weight and we can probably control it without medication and with a strict diet of very little sugar and white starchy carbs.

My endo won't reduce mine yet and my bloodwork has been excellent since at least February. I have lost 100 lbs and I want to start reducing meds but I'll give it til November when I have a regular followup with my endo.
