What little phrase do you say to yourself to motivate you each day?
What reminds you why its best to walk on by the donut stand? Why its best to put on your walking/ gym shoes?
TIA :)

"Just because it's there, doesn't mean I have to eat it!"
and
"Doing the exercise today will make me one step ahead for tomorrow"
I'm always inspired by others, so I'm looking forward to some gems I can use :D

2. i'm too old to take orders from a cookie. LOL!!
I look at those "poisoned" foods and say, "Now, is that going to help you reach your goal? Those are why you're at the weight you are, silly!"
And from Larry the Cable Guy, "Git 'r' Dun"!
I used to use Tony Little's, "You can do it! And if you can't, we all can tell!" But that somehow feels insensitive now. But it's sometimes what I need to do the last 10 minutes on the treadmill!

Right now this works for me but I'm gonna have to keep changing it as I get older. "There will always be another donut, but I'll never be 21 again." Also I ask myself whether it's really worth it to go up another pants size just cause something tastes good right now

Having health problems did not cause my Obesity, my Obesity is what caused many of my health problems.

I've seen variations of this one on several threads:
Failure is giving up what you want most for what you want now.

This one has really stuck with me. "Where the heart is willing, it will find a thousand ways--where it is unwilling, it will find a thousand excuses."
I also like "Enjoy present pleasures in such a way as not to injure future ones."

"I dont have to be thin; there's no law. I can stop anytime I want."
Which I know seems counter-intuitive, but it works for me. It reminds me that this is a choice I've made for myself, it's not something anyone is forcing me to do. It also reminds that there will always be other opportunities to eat whatever it is that is tempting me so much. Sometimes I just get into the mindset that I absolutely have to eat something (cake, doughnuts, cookies, nuts, trail mix, chips, whatever)--it's like I'm afraid I'll never have a chance to eat that stuff again. Reminding myself that I can have any of it any time I want in the future helps me turn it down now.
Also, the quote in my signature about setting priorites really resonates with me. Whenever I am thinking about having an off-plan treat, I try to take a step back and weigh it against my other priorities before giving in. What is more important, having the treat or getting to my goal? And sometimes having the treat is more important, but at least I've made a conscious decision about it instead of just mindlessly eating.

"It's not an option!"
When I was losing weight, I told myself that eating that unhealthy food was not an option and NOT exercising was not an option. I still use these sometimes, but because I have made lifestyle changes I find that I don't have to use them as much now. Now that I have decided to sit where I am for a while I use the mantra whenever I (briefly) think about gaining back the weight. It is simply "NOT AN OPTION".

This reminds me of Annie Hall and a young Jeff Goldblum, "I forgot my mantra!" :P
"Water and fruit are so much better." I've grown to love water and so when I think I *need* a lemonade or, worse, a milkshake or frappe, I whip out my water bottle and am good to go.
The same as the tagline under my name -- "a healthy mind in a healthy body". :)

Sometimes I catch sight of myself in a window and am stunned that 11 pounds is not currently making a big difference. I get discouraged and think, "Yuck". My next thought is,
"But I'm trying Lord, I'm trying!"
Doesn't sound that strong of a mantra but it takes the pressure off of me and allows me more time to get where I'm going!

This is a good one for me. Like someone else said, sometimes I feel that if I don't eat something right then and there, or in a great quantity, I won't ever have the opportunity to eat it again!

My guiding quote for my lifestyle changes this year is the following:
“I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same. In each, it is the performance of a dedicated precise set of acts, physical or intellectual, from which comes the shape of achievement, a sense of one’s being, a satisfaction of spirit. One becomes, in some area, an athlete of God. Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.” -Martha Graham
Because of that, my username and mantra are "practice living." As much as I want to lose weight, what I want the most is an active, healthy lifestyle, with fewer asthma symptoms, more balance, and better relationships. I have to practice living to make it happen! :D

"To have what you've never had, you have to do what you've never done." I boosted this from a late night televangelist. It reminds me that I have to work for it and it's my choice to do so.
