I'm thinking about joining a Jazzercise class. I went for my free trial class yesterday. It was fun and the hour went very fast. I thought I would be stuck in bed all day today because I wouldn't be able to move, but I'm not too sore. I'm going to go on Monday and officially join. That will get in my 3 days of cardio. Eventually I might even get all 6 days in. They don't teach on Sunday.

It's been in the 90s here all week and is suppose to get there again today. If I get a walk in it has to be early in the day. I'm off to get ready so I can get outside before it gets so hot I melt.

Now I just have to really work on the diet more and getting the water in. Maybe I should make a trip to the store and get some fresh fruit and veggies so I have stuff here that I can eat. Maybe the roadside markets would even be better. OK I'm off to the bank to get cash since they don't take charges. I guess I'll be walking in the banks direction today.

Wow.....I went to the ortho clinic on Thursday and I have to wear the walking boot for another 6 weeks. No weight on the right heel until after my appointment on Sept. 13th. I turned in my final project at school and I have one more night. All I have to do is study for the final and I am free!!!! Oh my gosh.....want am I going to do with no studying or projects???? For the past 2 years it has been school, school and more school. I guess I will need to concentrate on myself and losing this weight! Just wanted you all to know that I am still here. Patti.....how are you doing? How is the face?

Well I am back and starting full swing on Monday. I just need to pick up a few more things and I already have YOAD approved chili made for those ravenous evening where I can't be bothered to cook!

I have been toning so much from the running but not losing much weight, so here's hoping the two combined knock it right out of the park!

Ok forget Monday, I started back on today. Why wait another day and wonder why the scale hate me? LOL - I hope to lose 2 pounds this week but any loss is acceptable!

Hey guys - happy Friday!

Sorry I've not been around much - I'm letting all the wedding stuff take precedence, and I should not - otherwise I'm going to end up gaining weight before the wedding!

My eating has been bad - very sloppy, and way too much sugar. Today, while working out (yeah!), I decided this has to stop NOW! I'm going to stay home from camp this weekend so that I can get some things in order and actually grocery shop, purge my house again from the nasties that have crept in, and make some food for the week ahead.

The good news is that I exercised 3 days this week - not perfect, but at least I'm back in there for the second week in a row. This can only get better!

How are you gals doing? Kim, how's the foot? Patti - are you healed yet? Paula, you still with us? Cakses - have you done your YOU: turn yet? Anyone else around?

Let's keep chatting, despite busy summer schedules, to help keep ourselves accountable and on track. I think next week I'll restart the weekly food thread, ok? You guys in?

Have a great weekend everyone!

I just finished my last class of the masters program.....I can now add MBA after my name. Yah!!!! Cindy....I am in. Now is the time for me to become the incredible shrinking woman!!!! I won't know what to do without having homework to do and I can read something besides a text book!!!! I am still in a walking cast for at least 5 more weeks so I have to do something besides walk. I want to get a BEAN to do some stretching and core activities on since it is more stable than the exercise ball that I keep falling off of. No weight allowed on the heel yet so I am at a bit of disadvantage. I too am re-committing to a new lifestyle.

I ordered my book on amazon.com yesterday so I can join you guys pretty soon! I'm excited :)

I know about HFCS but what about tapioca syrup? One of the foods I eat has it and I need to see if I have to chuck it or not before the book arrives!

HI Rocknroll, I'm not in this thread but I am on YOU:, found this info..

Tapioca (also known as cassava, manioc, mandioc, or yucca) is a root native to tropical areas of South America. The tapioca syrup we use is made by converting the raw root into syrup through the use of natural enzymes.

I would say if there are 4 grams or less of sugars in your product it's ok. Would have to see ingredients to be sure.

If you have not found it yet , there is a support group, just for this diet. It's called real age. It's in the book and you will find all your questions answered over there , if you don't find them here.

Best wishes

Hey all! I did my major YOU turn yesterday and did really well with the exception of the exercise. I am going to try to do the exercise on the real age site for YOAD programmers.....I think I can incorporate them into sitting down. I have to avoid putting weight on my right heel for another 5 weeks and this is still worrying me when I was up to 11,000 steps a day before I fractured my heel. Oh well, when life hands you lemons.....make some lemonade!

The wounds are still healing..I have a small lump on my face still and apparantly it will take awhile to get rid of. Makes me look like I have a small dimple on my face..ha . I had made a U-turn and then made some great pumpkin muffins today...ohhhh. Have to be so careful with those..they are addicting. Im into smoothies right now..anyone else make them?? any recipes out there?? No walk today...I promise I will start again tomorrow night..jeez why is it so hard to jump back on the wagon. I need to get my book out again. I wont leave you Iwana...Im still here.

Way to go Patti! I usually make my smoothie with frozen cherries, 8 oz of skim milk, 1 scoop of Soy Protein powder (vanilla flavor) and touch of raspberry extract. I hear ya about jumping back on the wagon.....man it is tough but we can do it. Glad to hear you have healed with the exception of the 'dimple'. I did really good on my food choices yesterday.

Hey ladies - Happy Sunday!

Kim - how's the ankle and foot feeling? Glad it wasn't more serious - but what are we going to do to make sure you don't fall down those steps again???? A one-story house maybe?

I'm doing ok - didn't work out last week - staying up too late doing wedding stuff. That has got to stop - I need to take better care of myself - that's just as important.

Spent 4 hours this weekend printing and prepping my programs, only to have DF find a typo in his grandmother's last name! I'm struggling with what to do about this - it was major stress to get these done, and it would cost me $50 to have them reprinted at Staples, plus I'd still have to put the folding/cutting time in.... I'm tempted to leave them this way - it's not that noticeable because of the font, which is why I missed it, but he's pouting about it.....

Rock n'Roll - Kim is right - HFCS is everywhere! Despite not having the book, you can definitely start purging your kitchen/house of the stuff, and start lookng for a whole wheat bread you can have - that was one of the toughest things to find.

Hi Patti!

Hi Paula!

Hi to anyone else out there as well - pop in and chat when you get a chance and let us know how you are doing!

So I caved in yesterday and had one last bowl of blueberries and ready whip. It tasted really good and now I know why :p

My bread does have HFCS but I will finish off the loaf and then go out searching for a new one. I don't eat bread often so I just use the Light Wheat Loaf. Its forty calories per slice so I really like it.

My book should have been here by now so if it doesn't show up today I have to call for a tracking number or something...

Since I don't have the book yet, what do you guys think of modified food starch? and also brown sugar syrup? and evaporated cane juice?

Thanks!

Iwanawurkit
08-21-2007, 11:46 AM
I think the brown sugar syrup and evaporated cane sugar depends on how many grams per serving......no more than 4 grams per serving. YOU wants you to each as natural as possible. HFCS makes you crave the things you should avoid and makes you hungry. I will have to look at my book to see what it says for certain or maybe someone else knows....Can anyone enlighten us on this?

p.a.
08-21-2007, 11:48 AM
sugar shouldnt be listed in the first 5 ingrediants RockNRoll, if it is..then its a nono food. Sugar as you know comes in a variety of products such as cane sugar, syrups etc...The good drs talk about sugar substitutes ,,some are better then others. They tell you the good and bad about each kind. Not sure about the modified food starches>> ?? not sure what you mean

RocknRoll
08-21-2007, 12:11 PM
My book came in!!

Woohoo! Its MASSIVE so it might take awhile to read it :)

What I meant is can we have foods with starch in it? Like my fat free no sugar added Dannon Light and Fit yogurt has 'modified corn starch' in it. Am I allowed that?

BfL_Cat
08-21-2007, 01:16 PM
Sugar is like everything else in this plan - the less processed, more natural the better. Many health-food products contain evaporated cane juice - I think it's just what it says it is, so it would be ok.

Anything that is called a "syrup", with the exception of pure maple syrup, is to me, more processed.

The Dr.s believe that it's these processed, "fake" foods that cause our bodies to react badly. HFCS as an example has an unnatural blend of sugars - both of which might be ok in natural form, but is not when processed together with a higher ratio of fructose.

Sugar should be avoided as a rule, but if you are going to eat sweetened products, look for those with actual sugar if at all possible.

Hi, Ladies. Just popping in for a quick note. After being on the waiting list for a couple of MONTHS, I was finally able to check out YOU from my local library. I didn't want to just buy yet another diet book, because I've spent too much on them in the past and they're taking up space on my shelf. And I hate dusting!
Anyway, I'm about half way through it and getting such an education, I can't believe it. I started my weight loss journey counting Weight Watchers points at home, but I got tired of that and switched to counting calories. Anyway, I've lost 22 pounds and I already feel so much better! I am constantly amazed!!

But: I know the YOU plan is going to make a huge difference and get me to my goal. I really like the idea of following a plan that has a scientific basis and I like understanding why something is working. I guess I just got tired of getting more unhealthy and putting on a few pounds every year. I was going to have to buy a bigger size jeans (again) and just said, "NO! The butt stops here!" LOL

So, time to make a YOU turn from sitting here on the couch, and find the leashes and walk the dogs!!

Jo....things have slowed down a bit here. Cindy (BflCat) is getting married in September and has been really busy with the planning. Patti and I still managed to check in from time to time. Paula.....it's been a while since we heard from her.

Yes, it is very refreshing to know why your body is working the way it is....something not offered by most of the other plans. The docs are actual doctors...not in title only. Have you had the chance to see Dr. Oz on Oprah? Totally amazing the things he brings to the table.

Well, I am back down to 238.5 so that is a 2 pound loss. Food has been great, water has been great....exercise hasn't really happened. I did go shopping with my daughter yesterday and put in several steps.

Good going Kim,,,,,,,glad Im not the only one left here..haha. Cindy is busy with her wedding so I certainly dont blame her not checking in...I just got back from out of town again,,,,,didnt get my walk inlast night so I did double tonight. The eating is getting a little out of control too..too much sugar I know. Brushing myself off and getting right back on track.

Iwanawurkit
08-29-2007, 11:17 PM
Patti....your doing amazing!!!!! That is the hardest thing....getting back on track. When I had my doctor's appointment last Friday....he wanted me to check out HMR at the hospital.....liguid diet. Said it would cost about $100 a week....I thought....screw that! I would much rather buy healthy food and lose a couple of pounds a week so I can still chew. Besides....I don't have that much money to pay someone to lose weight. How would I buy a new wardrobe if all my money went to purchase shakes? I am in this for the duration......

paganwife
08-29-2007, 11:36 PM
Iwana,
FWIW, I tend to agree with you. You could buy a whole lot of healthy food for $100. I tried Slim Fast shakes briefly, and even though the package says it's got x number of calories and loads of vitamins.. I was STARVING! Couldn't do it.

If it works, don't fix it, right? Keep doing what you're doing.

Hey guys - I'm here again - sorry I've been MIA - I can't be doing that, because I'm having to make a big YOU: turn today!

It's not just the wedding that's keeping me away - it's the new job - I can't really be online at work anymore as my office and computer are now much more visible to everyone. :(

The wedding is just a month away, and I don't want my face to look puffy for the photos! No fear of the dress not fitting, but I want to be feeling better than I am right now.

I've been keeping late nights, and as a result, not getting up to exercise. That is stopping today! Also, food is back on track, effective today! No more using the wedding planning as an excuse - don't want to undo all the hard work I've put into this!

Welcome Jo - glad to hear you're having such success with YOU:

I taped Oprah with Dr. Oz - was that a repeat or a new one?

Liquid diet - that would never work for me - I like to chew! Great perspective on that Kim.

Hey Patti, sounds like you're definitely getting back in the swing of things with your walking!

You gals keep up the good work, and have a good weekend if I don't talk to you. I promise you, and myself that I will try to get here more.

I did have some egg noodles in my chicken noodle soup last night....there is a stomach virus going around at work and my tummy was doing flip flops.....so I made chicken noodle soup last night for dinner. Still feeling a little queasy this morning .....hope it does not last long. Cindy.....when is the big day? You have a lot on your plate with a wedding and a new job....... I am pulling for you! Hello.
I would like to join this site. I had done ww but for some reason it hasn't been working for me for a few months, I have been on a plateau for over 10 weeks. I guess I am maintaining but don't want to be. I want to be losing once again. I thought if I tried a different plan that may help. I do have the You on a diet book but have only skimmed through it. As I am typing this, I realize that change is scary. I know that ww is not working for me right now so I do need to change. do any of you have any suggestions to help me make the transition to the YOAD lifestyle? Thanks in advance

I dont mean this sarcastically but read the book..it really helps and go back to it and reread it. Its alot of info to take in all at once..I need to go back and reread it every so often. Welcome to the board by the way!!

Iwana,,,,,I like fitday it keeps me on track! The scale rewarded me with a big loss today!! Im still walking too.....100 miles in 100 days...Im on my way!

Wanna a be a loser.....YOAD is very similiar to the core program on WW. Difference is you read labels and stick to pure food more than ever. Patti is right....read the book and re read the book...that is the best way.

Patti.....I started walking with my boot on and was able to do 5,000 steps the first day but only 3,000 steps yesterday. I went to my sister and brother-in-laws camp at the lake and all the roads leading into their cabin are gravel. It's still hard to walk on uneven surfaces. Hopefully I can walk without the boot after the 13th of this month. Have a great and on program day.
