Another month...it's hard to believe I've been on plan for 10 weeks today and have lost 20 lbs. I'm a little bummed that I seem to have hit my first plateau when only down 20, but I'm also optimistic that things will start moving again soon. I think I may need to up my exercise. I'm supposed to go and get my measurements done tonight, but I think I'll wait until Saturday.
Jax: Good to hear that you had a nice vacation. I was in Medicine Hat this past weekend to see DH who was working there and it was so bloody hot I was glad to get back to the Calgary and only 28 degrees. I think his truck was reading 44 on site...yucky! I don't envy those of you further south in Alberta than me.

I hope everyone else is doing well. Welcome to the newbie, I see that you've used SF before. Awesome plan, I love it. I have seen some SF coupons, but they're very few and far between. I think once in a while Wal-Mart and Safeway put the products on sale, but again, it's rare. I think if you sign up with the Canadian site (although the features are not nearly as good as the US site) they email you coupons on occasion.
Anyhow, looking forward to hearing what everyone is up to. My mom is coming up from MO August 21 and I'm gonna have her bring me up more US SF. I love the assortment and the fact that the US products have wayyyy less sugar. Maybe that's why I'm not still losing, going from US back to CDN products...the sugar content is much higher.
Talk to everyone soon. I've set a goal for another 10 lbs by Labour day so I'm fully committed to doing whatever I need to to make that happen!

Tamara, we're both at 20lbs down, me since April 29 although I wasn't using slimfast at that point. I'm back to pre-camping weight as of this morning, confirming that most of the change was water effect. Too much salt and not enough drinking water.
Today is cooler (the house actually got down to 20°C inside) because this morning was lower, but we're supposed to be back to the 30's tomorrow and for the rest of the week. It's the cooler nights that help though, I'm hoping that August will be better than July.
I got back to my weights this morning, after procrastinating for two days. :lifter: Feels good.
Have fun with your mum. Do the US slimfast products have artificial sweetners? or just less sugar? One of the things I like about slimfast is their lack of artificial sweetners. I'd hate them to change that. My new mini-goal is 8lbs this month (August). I want to be "not overweight" by BMI in time for my birthday in November, which puts me at ~155lbs by that point. So to give a bit of cushion I'm going for 8lbs a month for the next three months. Goal at the end of August is 167 lbs.

Ahhhhh.... If only. I started taking my vitamins last week and my "good-old" PROBLEM is back. Tamara, that quote I posted from you (even though you're talking about lbs) pretty much sums up how I feel.
On top of that, I'm still sick almost every day. I'm not gaining any weight, but it's because I just can't eat!
I have found that if I eat a Slim Fast MOG bar in the mornings I seem to stay *not sick* longer. That's a good deal, because I still have quite a few of them left at the house! Plus, they taste good! :)
Jax, I'm glad your weight was just water--it's always a relief when it comes right back off! I totally think you can lose 8 pounds in August! :cheer:

Good morning all :) Glad to see everyone is well today. I am a bit OP but doing better than I thought I could do. I ended up with a 2 lb loss for last month even though my eating was horrid and my exercise mediocre at best. So I look forward to this month being so much better. I've decided to do SF for b-fast & lunch on M-F & Sun, and B-fast only on Sat for the month of August and see how that goes. I'll have to switch to Lunch & Dinner on Saturdays when Dh returns at the end of the month because our big family tradition is making breakfast together on Saturdays. Pancakes & Eggs even :(

mkat, pancakes are fine - just choose a small plate! Drizzle half as much syrup but spread it around! Your plan sounds smart and congrats on those 2 pounds in July!

I was just so tickled to be able to rack up a loss for July. Closer to goal and less of a loss each time, but 1 pound is 1 pound! Also when I measured, I notice I've lost a bit at abdomen.

I really like the SF bars. When I buy them I can't control myself and eat 4 or 5 a day. The bars are really tasty. I was thinking that by buying the powder and making shakes I could try SF again. I am lactose intolerant so I can't add milk to the powder. Has anyone used soy milk instead of milk with the shakes.

Jax: You're doing so well. Keep up the good work and I know what you mean about slacking on the exercise, it's hard to get back at it after holidays, but then when you do you remember why you like it in the first place. You always feel good after a work out! The US SF products use sugar alcohol instead of plain sugar...I think that's what makes the difference. Your morning shake sounds yummy! I'm sure it will be cooler in Athabasca. Congrats on your new pup. We have a black lab and she's such a wonderful dog.
Cheryl: I hope that things "get moving" for you soon! Remember, water, water, water! You must drink water to help with that process. I also think that lots of natural fibre (from fruits/veggies) helps even more than bran. That's just MO though and what works for me.
mkat321: Try and find sugar free syrup for your pancakes...it tastes just as good (especially if you can get fruity kind like blueberry). You can find it anywhere that sells products for diabetics or even Superstore/Sobey's/Wal-Mart. I buy Walden farms and I love it. Also here is a low-calorie pancake recipe (see bottom of post) that you can try instead of regular pancake mix that tends to be high in calories/fat.
bargoo: You're doing so great! Wowsers! So close to goal, keep up the amazing work and you'll be there before you know it.
Whittlin: You're also awesome! You girls are such an inspiration! I can't wait to be that close to goal, heck, I can't wait for Onederland! LOL
qazwsx27: There are Easy to digest SF shakes...they have no lactose and no gluten. I think you're in Toronto so you may have to make a day trip into Buffalo to get them, but they're available in the US. I haven't seen them in Canada, but that doesn't mean they aren't here. You definitely have to watch the MOG bars. Each one is about 250-270 calories and if you eat 5 a day that is almost your entire calorie allowance for the day and you're not getting anything fresh in. Fruits and veggies are very important, have you looked at the meal plans on the US SlimFast site? They give you weekly meal plans that you can tailor to suit you. I love them and find if I eat on their plan every day I'm never hungry, don't binge and really enjoy the food I'm eating.
Anyhow I finally kicked the plateau and this morning the scale was at 205 after almost 3 weeks at 206 - 206.5. Yippee! ! ! I hope everyone has a terrific weekend (long-weekend for my fellow Canucks).
1/4 cup uncooked oatmeal;
1/2 cup egg whites (which I buy in pint cartons at Supermarket or you can use 3 real egg whites);
2 packets Splenda (2 little yellow packets or 2 Tablespoons Splenda if from box).
Spray skillet with non-stick coating. Pour into two pancakes on hot skillet. Cook pancakes.
Serve with 1/4 cup of sugar-free syrup. I use no butter or substitutes with it, and don't miss it much when I have the syrup.
One can make and freeze it ahead in individual baggies, then grab it, put in microwave and eat it when one has little time. This is a healthy and filling breakfast for between 155 and 200 calories, depending on the sugar-free syrup used.

Thank you tleef. Thank you for the info. I started the powder today and I don't think I'll binge on the shakes. I bought soya light and a generic meal replacement called equate. I saved $2.00 on the meal replacement and it tastes fine to me. I like something sweet everyday, so rather than eating biscuits or a chocolate bar, I can enjoy a nice meal replacement shake.

Did you use slim-fast the whole time lossing weight? I started medifast yesterday and think the taste to some of the products are gross so I think slim-fast is about the same so I was going to try that.

I haven't used Medifast so can't compare, but I have used Slimfast the entire time, They have several different flavors so you can pick what you like.I have had good sucess with Slimfast and use it in conjunction with calorie counting. I usually have SF twice a day.

I started in January . I was going to Curves, but in February I broke my shoulder and had to stop Curves, I can do no upper body exercise. I walk a lot, that is my only exercise, now.

Sarah, I would have a similar answer to bargoo - yes, I've used SF shakes the whole time, 1 to 2 per day and generally according to their on-line plan as far as amount of fruits/veggies, etc. I blend mine, so often just blend the fruit right on in. Nope, haven't tried Medifast so just don't know how they compare. My plan has been two parts - diet and exercise - and my workouts are physical-therapy-based videos from ttapp.com, which I think are very efficient.
qazwsx27, I wanted to mention to you that my husband didn't want the milk either because of digestion and I did find him the easy to digest shakes in a can like tleef mentioned (we're in US). He tried the chocolate on the way to work, and when he took another one the next morning I knew he must be interested. He said he could live with that taste, that it "wasn't half bad". I am a big fan of the powder - bet you'll do well with that.
bargoo, I did not know that about your break. Great job getting out there and walking and staying active. :running: Yep, I'm close, but change DOES slow down when your body KNOWS you are close! ;) No matter, I'm happy.
Mango and raspberry, Jaxjob? Whoa - you may win the chef contest today. :chef: I only had a small peach one day so added one of those dark plums with the red flesh - tasted like peach, but color was pink.
And on the flip side of that, :o , I found out that when I neglect the grocery trip, my cubboard is bare and I only have bananas and Vanilla powder (and the only fruit I can't STAND with Vanilla shake is banana, lol!) a teaspoon of cocoa powder turns it into a pretty good imitation of a Chocolate SF/banana shake!
Still gotta love that blueberry-vanilla shake for sheer good purple looks, though. My kids stare at it (they won't drink it, but they stare at it, lol!)

Way to go Bargoo! I've never had size 6 jeans - but I had UK size 10 at one time, I think that's similar. Not for (way too) many years now. How long before you can use that shoulder again? Way to go on the walking though.
Whitlin' I can only put bananas in a shake if I have other fruit, even then I prefer not to have them. I don't use the chocolate powder (it has artificial sweetner, which I loathe) but I'll have to try cocoa in a vanilla shake.
I'm moving away from the SlimFast - at least for a while. I am finding it difficult to get back into any sort of routine with a new puppy keeping me up at night. I tend to overeat when I am tired and unable to do anything about it (like sleep! :yawn:) and I'm just not doing it with the SlimFast right now - too hard to space out through the day. I'm trying to use FitDay (well I am using FitDay) and keep my calories in the 1400-1600 range for the present. Still sticking with healthy choices as much as I can. It hasn't been the best week but I'm not giving up.

I fell off the wagon for a couple of days (leading up to TOM). I think I'm up a little, but I'm not even going to weigh until after the weekend when I've had a chance to eat on plan for a couple more days and get to the gym! LOL
Jax: I hope that things work out for you and you can always use SF for a meal replacement if you just don't have time to throw something healthy together.
Whittlin: I hear you on the grocery shopping thing...When I forget to go I'm in a sorry state. No fruit/veggies, no NF turkey, no weight watchers bread (I use that so I can have two slices for the calorie count of one, I'm not big on open faced sandwiches). It's a complete mess if I don't get to the grocery store 3 times a week to stock veggies/fruit!
Sarahsthing: I haven't tried medifast either, but I love the flavour of the Slim-Fast products. I also love the online tools and meal plans, they help keep me on track.
Bargoo: You're amazing and an inspiration!
Cheryl: How are you feeling luv? Is the morning sickness passing? Is everything else passing? LOL I hope you're doing great...won't be too long and you'll be able to feel baby moving. I'm back down to 193 as of last night. :) we're in a tight spot financially right now so it'll be wednesday or so before i can get more slim fast. I'm doing better--the morning sickness has been almost gone the past three days--I'm hoping it's gone for good :)
I've been taking stool softeners twice a day now for around a week AND eating fiber cookies before bed every night. Things are "smoothing out" wonderfully. Ya know, I think that the constipation may have been causing some of the nausea, since they both went away at the same time, but who knows?
Tamara, I'm sure it's just water weight! I hope you'll be pleasantly surprised at weigh in!
Jax, how IS the puppy? Are you trying to crate train? That may cut down on some of the sleepless nights.

I didn't realize SF worked so well. I have been doing it this week but with a new baby my sleep is so messed up, I am not sure about it. However, when I weighed myself today I lost 3.2 lbs.
I started Walk Away The Pounds ~ it is so much easier to do at home walking with a newborn.

4myself - puppy is getting more used to us. We are crate training him - our other dog, Smoky, sleeps in his crate at night and when we are out. Kodiak is getting more used to his, I put him to sleep in there every day for an hour after feeding. He doesn't fuss as much as he used to.
2lb gain this week :(. I know the reasons so it's not as bad as an unexpected one. I changed my ticker because I want to be reminded! Working harder for that August goal now. :running:

sarasthin - I'm not sure which slimfast site you're using, but if you follow the US (slimfast.com) one including snacks and meals it gives you a calorie count for the day. You can substitute if you don't like what they suggest for you. I think some of the fruits/veggies are part of meals, others as snacks. Looking at what it recommeds for me (at 177lbs) I would say that the fruits and veggies are included in the other sections.
If you're not using the slimfast.com site for your meal plans, you can use a site like fitday.com or thedailyplate.com to track your calories. I use fitday and have entered the slimfast stuff as custom foods on there. Tamara's the expert on the slimfast.com site and plan, she's a way better resource than I am.
On another topic I ate one of the slimfast meal bars for lunch today - "Rich Chocolatey Brownie". YUK! :barf: I bought this flavour because I don't like peanuts and all the other ones in the store were peanut. I thought the bars would be more convenient on vacation but then never had one. I won't be buying those again. Now I have 5 more to think of what to do with! I hate throwing them out but don't know if I can stomach them!!
I am doing a 180° :dizzy: from last week and going back to the slimfast plan (shakes only though - no meal bars). Even though I don't always have two slimfast products a day (this morning I made my own smoothie for breakfast using whey protein, milk, yoghurt, flax seeds and blueberries) I need the structure of the plan. Last week was a disaster! :nono: Not just because the scale moved the wrong way, but because I felt yucky too. Not just tired. I ate too much.
On another point the new jeans I bought Sat. are two sizes smaller than the ones I am wearing! Wow!!!!

Jax, frankly I'm glad you are back to the SF concept. I almost want to say "relieved" which may sound silly. The word "structure" is the right one - I know how losing structure can mess things up. Suddenly there are pitfalls to avoid and a lot of decisions, and if life gets complicated at all it can be hard to make progress. You can still substitue as much as is helpful.
Sarah, if you register as a member at slimfast.com there are all kinds of helps similar to what you are looking for. You can go into the meal plan then and scroll down and get the exact calories, etc. You can substitute and it will calculate for you (I would probably never have a day without substitufions but I think Tamara sometimes sticks right with it). I have the impression fruits count for snacks.
So glad to hear Cheryl that you are more comfortable.
I'm so glad to hear others need 3 trips to grocery per week, too!!! We have a busy household and I don't want to keep my healthy foods away from my family, hoarding them!!! That's counterproductive. But very often the good fruits etc. are gone quickly in this hot weather - everyone looks forward to them.
Sandwiches - I use one slice of bread and cut it in half for a half sandwich like the picture at SF shows, then I pile it high with lettuce as an add-on to my turkey or egg salad or whatever. When I have this with a SF shake blended with fruit I consider it lunch plus snack of fruit.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Whitlin'. I will be substituting lots - I have done all the time. I use the plan as a guide anchored in the slimfast meals, rather than really following it. At least that's what I've been doing since discovering fitday. The ironic thing (irony loves me) is that I don't always use 2 slimfast products per day - I have been making subs (like protein powder shakes with DH) for quite a while. And I do count calories - I put the slimfast stuff into fitday and use it there. The slimfast plan structure is the helpful part though. :)
Scale is moving the way I want it to today. Yippee. :cool:
As for grocey trips - I would love to have fewer, since it's a 40km drive into town. But sometimes I just get DH to pick stuff up on the way home. I try to get veggies at the farmer's market on Sat. - the various Hutterite colonies sell awesome produce, but it's the fruit that gets eaten fast around here.

I looked on the site and did not like what they gave me. I did not take the time to sub things out. I do not vary much on my food during the day so it should be easy to play with the site.
JAX - I eat the bars and you are right the rich chocolate brownie is gross, but not all bars are like that. Some places you can buy just one bar, it is a little more expensive then the full boxes but you can taste them without wasting 5 bars. Around here the 6 bars are @ $5.66. And one is $ 0.97. It just gives a chance to taste them.

Sarah - the meal bars available in the US are not all available here in Canada. You folks have way more to choose from. We have about three flavours here, all Optima.

Hi all, I'm starting slim fast i've done it off and on in the past. But I was diagnosed with pcos and dr's kept saying low carb but I got really sick on that diet. So I'm back to giving slimfast a try I'll try and eat more fruit and veggies with the plan and maybe this time I'll be able to do it.

I have a question for anyone-being from Canada we can't get the high protien slimfast products, even some of the newer optima bars aren't available here. I checked on ebay and someone was offering 53 assorted bars for $7.75ish. The only problem was that they were expired, but the seller stated that they are packaged so that they are good for 2 yrs past the exp.date. Is this a load of crap?It seemed like one of those "to good to be true" deals-

As the school year starts it looks like it will be possible for me to stay quite close to my plan, so I'm looking forward to some uninterrupted time for workouts and no one but me considering what snack, etc. :broc: Absolutely love all my children at each age and love being with them, but elementary school is the most helpful thing on a mother's calendar.
I think it's great that 2muchbackend - Carriewas able to give an answer to Cindy's post within just an hour! Gee! The only thought I'd have about it is that they probably are perfectly fine to eat as the seller says, so the auction would be honest (but the taste would be important too).

Hi Whitlin' - as you know I have been ambivalent about the slimfast recently. I've been using the Sonoma Diet cookbook this summer, so bought the diet book and decided to do that instead of slimfast. I like the wholefoods idea and began Sonoma on Friday. So far it's working really well - although I seem to be eating fewer calories than I expected, I'm enjoying the food and not hungry. The new pic is from the 3FC selection, I was going to post a personal one (or one of the cats or dogs) but all mine are too big and I don't know how to make the files smaller. So I just picked a different one I'd not seen before. Variety can be good. Slimfast I like because it is easy, and I have learned lots being on the plan, but I am getting bored of it and not sticking to it well these days.
I'm looking forward to school starting also! I love my kids lots too but this will be the first year I have lots of me time. School starts Wednesday this week for the two oldest, Tuesday next week for the youngest (for some reason kindergarten has a different school year, despite being at the same school). I can go running :running: during the day! Since we've had Kodiak the drive to get up at 5:00 and run has been severely lacking, now it's less hot I plan on running after they go to school in the morning, beginning next week. My ankle healed fast and I've been doing DVD's :exercise: again, just not much running.

Hi everyone...so sorry to have been MIA for the last couple of weeks. I fell off the wagon so to speak. I've only lost 1 pound in the last 3 weeks, but at least I haven't gained.
My mom has been in town and we've been going nuts trying to get as much planning for the wedding as possible done before she goes back south until March.
I bought my wedding dress and I actually ordered it a size smaller than what I tried on (which was really tight), so I absolutely have to continue losing the weight.
I was 204 this morning and am still hoping for another 1/2 - 1 lb by Saturday WI. Basically I have 9 months to lose 54 lbs...totally doable!
Cheryl: I'm so glad to hear that things are going well with your pregnancy. I can't wait to hear more details as they come available! LOL
Jax: Sorry to hear that SF isn't floating your boat these days, but I hope you'll still come and let us know how Sonoma is working for you. I have been off plan a lot lately, and am actually looking forward to being back on the SF 100%, I feel great when I eat what the plan says to...never hungry...no cravings...lots of energy. But I also know from the last few weeks how easy it is to fall off and stay off. I've been fortunate that my mom and sis have been sending or bringing me the SF bars from the US. Of the Canadian flavours the only ones I like are the Milk Chocolate Peanut and the Oatmeal Raisin...the others are yucky!

I don't know if there is a limit to the amount of personalized foods you can enter but so far I've been able to put in as many as I like and completely tailor my food plan.

I hope you do have a better time than me getting back on plan. After Jasper, where I wasn't on plan much at all, I was looking forward to it too, but just couldn't seem to do it. Hence the back and forth decisions! I actually bought more muffin bars and shake mix, but then was not looking forward to eating them at all. Thus I didn't really get back on plan. I've used the Sonoma cookbook this summer and decided to see what the diet was all about. I started on Friday - there's a fairly restricted first wave (10 days) which I am in the middle of now, and then it's mostly Mediterranean style eating, which I enjoy. It's going well so far, wave 1 is restricted but filling, and I've lost weight since Fri. I'll keep popping in and seeing how everyone's doing, you are my weight loss buddies now!
