Good Morning Crazies . . . :grouphug: . . .

Well it's a brand new day and a brand new month . . . so . . .

. . . here we are at our new chat thread for the current month.

One little spot in the great big 3FC world where we can speak/spell 'Canadian' when we need to . . . use the metric system for temperatures and measurements . . . and talk about great 'finds' for the diet concious in Canadian stores . . . all without having to wonder if anybody else will know what it is we are talking about.

If you are a continuing member . . . :welcome2: . . . glad you found us and don't forget to "subscribe" to the thread so you'll be able to find us more easily from now on. If you are a brand new member . . . :wel3fc: . . . as well. Tell us where you're from and what your programme is and then just jump on in and start posting.

Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking kind of day planned. If we just keep doing the best we can, as much as we can, the rewards will follow.

See you soon . . . :carrot:

Morning all, and happy August!

It's supposed to be hot here today - 30+ I think. Should make my first night of beach volleyball extra fun! I'm a little nervous about playing - I'm not sure how I'll do, fitness-wise, with all the running around in the sand!

Good morning all ,

things are good over here. Weigh-in was yesterday and i gained 1 lbs. I have committed to starting detox next week . I really need to get all this sugar out of my body; meanwhile 1 week vacation left so I will simply try and enjoy myself without going overboard.

Well yesterday was a lousy day on the eating front. AF arrived (not a great excuse) early and I BINGED! :o *sigh* So of course today I feel lousy but time to get back on track!

On a better note, although it got back to 30 again yesterday afternoon, this morning is another cool one, much better for everything!

Morning!

I'm going to re-set my August mini-goal; I missed August 1st by 2 pounds, and I found myself thinking "Well, now I'll have to lose TWELVE pounds by September 1st..." :o Not a great start, so let's take a trip back to the real world!

Right - so, 7 pounds for August, and if I pass it, GREAT! :D

Chocco - I had a gain too. We've just got to get back on track!

Jax - Sometimes we just can't beat TOM, eh? Today is a new day though, so you'll get back at it.

Heather - great goal, and good attitude too!

As for me - I had a 1.5lb gain this week, which I am a little baffled by. The only thing I can think of is that it might be temporary because I overate last night after volleyball. Playing was GREAT - I'm *sooo* glad I signed up. It's going to be a great workout, I think, and my teammates are awesome. Unfortunately, I was a bit airheaded and forgot my dinner in the fridge at work... by the time we hit the pub afterwards I was ravenous, and my plan for one diet-coke-and-rum turned into a help-the-team-eat-nachos-and-wings situation. :(

Hi all you Crazy Canucks,

I've been chatting in a few of the other groups and kind of lurking here so I thought I'd come out in the open. My name is Denise & I'm a single mom of two boys 17 & 20 - both still at home. We live in Winnipeg.

I 'do' Weight Watchers for the points but I also try to eat as healthful as possible. For exercise, I do elliptical or walk/jogging for cardio about 4 times/week and weights 2 times/week.

We are having a beautiful day today after about a week of 40ish humidex. It is so nice to go outside and be able to breathe.

Talk soon,

Hi Marianne . . . . . . not to down-play the nacho and wings, kiddo; but all the heat and humidity we've been having on both coasts can definitely lead to a bunch of water retention too . . . at least it always does for me.

Hi Denise . . . . . . :welcome: to the Crazy Canucks . . . glad to have you joining us. Breathing is a good thing . . . I do so hate that feeling of being under-water all the time.

Linda - I'll meet you there!! :D

It's not humid (according to my thermometer thingy) but it's HOT :hot::hot::hot: AGAIN - Yuk, yuk, yuk. The one day where we had a cool morning this week has given me unrealistic expectations, and now I'm being super grumpy about the heat. :tantrum:

On a better note, I made an awesome yummy shake this morning - vanilla slimfast, milk, mango and raspberries. I've been using slimfast since May - it was a convenient way to get myself into losing, plus I was super busy at the time - and stressed (going through initial stages of what led to a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome in my eldest son) so it has helped. Now I've been using FitDay for a while I'm not eating the slimfast nearly so much (it's a tool, that I'm outgrowing - although happy with having used it) and am finding ways to use up the last of it. Today's shake was so yummy, I almost wanted more - although realistically I know I can make it as yummy and nutritious without the slimfast too.

Anyhow enough on that. We're off to Athabasca for the weekend and coming home with another Lab - a sibling (different litter, same parents) for the one we have now. Someone to play with. The boys are excited and it will be nice to be somewhere cooler - at least according to forecast.

Snuggles to all - have a great weekend!

Hi, All -

Hey! I posted something here last night (actually, just about 24 hours ago), but it's not here! Wha' happened?? Just as well - lots of whining about the heat and humidity. :hot: Today was even worse, although I feel like I lost weight just by breathing in and out.... :whoo: It's really oppressive here in MA, even on the coast. But I understand that there's cooler weather coming down from CANADA - YAY! I hope it's not just a cruel hoax!

My weight loss has completely stalled. Meowee, you have a point about the humidity and its effect on weight loss. I guess the good news is that I haven't gained!

Hi, Denise! :welcome3:

Jax - That shake sounds delicious! I haven't had SlimFast in a long time; maybe, during this hot weather, I'll whip up some a.m. shakes!

It's actually not too bad here today - quite hot, but not nearly as humid. However, from what they are saying this reprieve will be short lived. I'm trying to get out very early to walk because if I don't it doesn't get done.

Jax - That's not an easy diagnosis to hear. Any time our kids aren't well is a big stress on the family. I hope there is a lot of support available in your community. How old is your son?

Well, I've been doing about anything I can think of to postpone vacuming but no little gremlins have come to do it so I guess I'd better go.

These kittens are driving me crazy . . . I no sooner climb the ladder and put my bedroom curtain rods back up than they manage to pull them down again. Think I'll just live with nothing but the mini-blinds for a few days in the hopes that they will tire of this new "game" by the next time I put the curtains up again.

Anyway, gang . . . hope you are enjoying the weekend so far . . . take care, have fun, and I'll see you all later . . .

Just a quick "Good Evening, All"!

It was another hot one here in MA, but NO humidity (although I hear it's on the way back - BAH!).

We had a great day today; our little town becomes a hotbed of happenings the first weekend of August! It's called "Heritage Days", although I'm sure the founding Mothers and Fathers would be shocked, as I'm sure that carnival rides, fried dough, jewelry sales and Dickie Betts have nothing to do with our town's history! I have to admit, I did partake of a little "heritage" myself today, in the form of ice cream and fried dough. Ouch!

I'm off to bed. I wonder how many calories I can "sleep off"?

Rain!! We had rain this morning.

:rain::rain::rain::rain::rain:

It was wonderful. Not enough but I'll take what we can get. Other than one thunderstorm, it seems we didn't get any significant rain in July. Not good, especially with it so hot. Today is going to be hot again but not as much as it has been.

We are back with our new puppy, Kodiak, and he doesn't like sleeping at night. So we're not doing much of that either. Bad for healthy eating/exercise - I just do not have the energy for my weights today. Hopefully tomorrow. With this extra sleeplessness I may not make that 8lb goal, but I'm still going to shoot for it. Kodiak will settle down. Smoky is very good with him but a little annoyed about the night time barking too.

Hi all!

Wow have I been enjoying the long weekend! Catching up on my sleep a LOT, which makes me suspect that lack of sleep had something to do with my gain last week. I always underestimate how important enough sleep is!

We've also been car shopping this weekend. WOW it's so overwhelming. At least it got me walking a lot around the auto mall.

Today I'm back to where I was before the gain last week, so that's encouraging.

Better sleep last night but not great. Kodiak wasn't wailing all night but he didn't want to sleep after about 1 a.m. either. My scale is up to 177 again this morning - not too surprising since my eating has been awful, and I'm not drinking enough water. Trying to stay on plan today. Yesterday I didn't even have the energy/interest to put my food into FitDay so although I know I overate, I have no idea by how much. I'm being optimistic and not changing my ticker.

The coffee pot didn't flood this morning, so already it is a MUCH better day than yesterday. :coffee2:

Denise - my eldest is 9, soon to be 10. It's not easy going through this process, but hopefully we can get him some more specific help at school this year. I'm not sure on the resources available, since we only moved here last summer, but I'm sure there's more than up north, where we lived before. He will be starting socialisation classes (one thing with Asperger's kids is that they have to learn social behaviour much like one learns math, or science, it isn't naturally absorbed) which I think will help him. I'm still learning all this too - having not heard of AS until a few months ago. They were initially testing him for ADHD but although he shows some facets of that (as apparantly most AS kids do) it's not the major concern. It's nice to be able to read a book about AS kids and identify with much of Nathaniel's behaviour.

Weather is more seasonal again - hot but not scorching. We got a new screen door yesterday which should keep the flies out of the house. The old one had a huge gap at the bottom.

Well time to feed the animals, take care all,
Jax

Good Afternoon, All!

Wow, I usually don't get a chance to pop in in the afternoon!

Susan - Please send some rain our way! There's been lots of it north of Boston, but precious little 'round these parts. Walking barefoot on the grass is becoming painful; lying on the grass is like lying on a bed of nails!

Jax - One of the boys for whom I "kid-sit" (sounds better than "baby-sit" when you're talking about a 14-year-old!) is very high-functioning autistic. When he was 10 his parents started sending him to social skills class once a week. What a difference it made! He is much more confident (extremely important for any adolescent!) and far more outgoing. I did alot of role-playing with him, and we had alot of fun (plus, it gave us the excuse to go out to eat quite a bit!). Good luck with the puppy, too. Kodiak is a great name!

It's quite warm here on the MA coast, but nowhere near the heat and oppressive humidity that was threatened!

Enjoy the rest of your day, Everyone!

Whereas here close to Medicine Hat - "chance of showers" means "you may see some clouds pass by on their way to Saskatchewan, they might even drop a couple of dribbles on you for 10 seconds" - or at least this year that seems to be the case.

Even yesterday's rain was dried up by the afternoon with the ground looking as though it hadn't happened. 33C again this afternoon after a lower forecast. Oh well...

So weigh-in was yesterday and it was not good but totally expected . 2 1/2lbs gain . I am not upset because i knew this was my last week I was allowing myself to eat freely . So now I have a new menu and will start a cleansing . I have to say , not impressed with the recipes i was sent but that is ok I can tweek the recipes I guess.

Today is my last day of vacation . It really sucks and what is worst i live in the country , no bus route around , no corner store to walk to , no parks to bring the kids to . I guess we will just have to hang out around the house . My husband is working form 9am to 9pm and i am left without the vehicle .

Kodiak is sleeping better (2 nights now with only a couple of outdoor trips, no incessant barking) and I need to be back to the healthy stuff! No excuses. Yesterday I felt AWFUL :stress: and it wasn't just that I was tired, a lot was not eating healthy. Everything that could annoy me was, from flies in the house to the boys being noisy. Which boys are... :D

So today I am going to forget tired, and that I can't do exactly what I want but need to supervise a puppy, and get back on the eating track. Exercise DVDs can wait but I need to work on this body. Otherwise I'll have an 8lb GAIN in August instead of a loss.

Hi all,

Cooler again this morning! A big t-storm in the Hat yesterday (pix of flooding shown online) which somehow managed to miss us only 40 km SE. Gotta love Alberta weather!! Settie - how are things in the 'Peg? Is your basement often wet? We got water once in our basement when we were in Fort Nelson, it sucked.

Feeling LOTS better this morning after 3 days of less-interrupted sleep (and my coffee of course :coffee:). Took both dogs (separately, otherwise we have macrame) for a walk last night, although it's less exercise than I was doing pre-puppy it felt good. Plan on getting weights in today - if Kodiak will stay quiet in his crate for a while.

2lb gain this week :( but not unexpected. More positive attitude though so feeling back on track despite the scale. Fitting into my smallest jeans (size 12) probably helped! I'm planning on them getting just as loose as my others have. My 14s now will come down without unbuttoning (not good with small boys hanging on my leg). I'm too old for the underwear hanging out look!

Well now I have a 10lb loss to make it to 167 by the end of the month. Gonna try!

Linda,
Hey! I found a familiar "face!"
Hi, everyone else. My name is Diana. My ticker tells my story, I guess. I've lost a total of about 42-43 altogether (over the course of about 3 years, trying off and on--okay, more off than on.) I've just had a total abdominal hysterectomy (7-26-07) after a failed laprascopic attempt at a hysterectomy (frozen pelvis caused by stage 4 endometreosis--look it up--it's as bad as it sounds) plus had my gallbladder removed at the same time as the abdominal hysterectomy. I'm 2+ weeks out of surgery (it was 2 weeks Thursday) and I have two places in my 14" incision that have gotten infected (I wonder how much my FAT ROLLS have contributed to the infection because both places are in or right close to creases. :( One is a very, VERY large place...probably 1 1/2"-2" long place, probably 3/4" deep. The other place is very tiny, Thank God!!!
Anyway, since surgery I've lost 10 lbs (maybe 11 or 12...didn't weigh before surgery on my scales, so I'm not positive what I weighed on them beforehand.) My 8 yr old son commented to me yesterday, "Wow, Mom, you've lost a lot of weight." Then he put my arm around my waist and said, "I can really tell you've lost a lot when I put my arm around you!" I rejoiced! That was a bit of joy amidst all the stress since my surgeries have begun. I had my laprascopic surgery July 2nd, the total abd. surgery July 26....two surgeries in three weeks, plus infection....plus they took both ovaries and I can't have any hormones until 6 weeks post-op. I cry when someone says, "BOO!"
AND, my husband just granted my request to go to the store and get me some chocolate....he brought home 16 fun size twix bars (the small ones) and a bag of assorted fun size candy bars (the kind with hershey bars, Crackles--or whatever they're called--, and Mr. GoodBar in them) I've eaten a bunch of candy (I'm surprised I'm not in a coma right now, matter of fact), but I think I deserve a sweet tooth, no matter how big, after everything I've been thru. As long as I don't do it again tomorrow, I guess.
Maybe that's why I can't quit typing...sugar rush! LOLOL
Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. Hope to get to know everyone around here...maybe this thread won't die?? :)

Hello there DIANA . . . you are hereby designated as an honourary Canadian . . . welcome to the Crazy Canuks Cluck Club. Hope you enjoy your new life up here in the frozen North. Talk about a major change.

So glad everything came out all right (all puns intended). You are sounding absolutely amazingly chipper for only just having had major surgery. Sorry to hear about the infection though. I'm scheduled for a complete hysterectomy on September 20; but I am considering cancelling it -- I have absolurely no pain and no spotting (since the original little period problem almost a year ago that started the whole thing) so I guess I'm just a big chicken about the whole thing. Don't want to trade feeling okay for lots and lots of pain and possible complications after the fact. I have a pre-op appointment at the hospital on August 30 which i think i will keep so I can talk to a nurse about stuff before I totally decide what I'm going to do. The GYN had told me before that it is only a very large fibroid tumour and not cancerous or anything.

Anyway . . . hi there to everybody else . . . Another nice sunny and fairly comfy day for northern Nova Scotia although the humidity is starting to sneak up again.

Hope everybody is having a great weekend. See you soon.

Good Morning, All!

:welcome2: Diana! You'll love it here. Everyone here is super supportive, and really nice, to boot! I'm so glad to hear that everything turned out fine. Meowee's right -- you DO sound chipper!!

My daughter and I are house- and cat-sitting here in town, but this house is right on the water. The only drawback is that, around 4:30 a.m., all the fishermen drive by here to get their boats out (our town has a good-sized commercial fishing community, in addition to the seasonal charter boats). Noisy! We'll be here for another week, and I'm sure I'll get used to it.

We had a great white shark take down a seal just off the beach in Chatham (Cape Cod). It scared alot of the swimmers, who had a front row seat for the "show". Alot of my friends from Montreal vacation on the Cape, but I bet there aren't too many people who want to see the food chain played out before their very eyes!

Speaking of the beach, we're off for the day. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, All!

Linda,
I'd be glad to be in Canada right now....we're forecast to be between 100 and 102 degrees everyday until this coming up Saturday! We're literally roasting down here! Plus Louisiana's humidity is horrendous, which makes it only worse...I guess pressure cooked is more accurate than roasting. :) What are ya'lls temps like up there right now? (In Farenheit, if you know....I never learned how to figure from celsius to farenheit! silly me!)

LIttle nervous this morning....I think my infected places are a little more sore. They told me that is a bad thing...I'm hoping it's digestive pains and not wound pains....hope to know here shortly. :(

Thanks for the welcome, ya'll! It's great to be back! :) :) :)

Still high on sugar,
Diana

Its currently around 18C here this Sunday morning..which would make it around..eh..65F

I think I would die at 100F..thats like 40C. Holy crap! :yikes: I get really fed up when its like 28C..so I cant imagine what that heat wave feels like. Hope your keeping cool and drinking lots of good ol' water.

How right you are EM . . . a day at the beach in my mind does NOT include watching nature at it's most basic levels . . . I mean, we all know it goes on, but we really don't want to see it happening.

Ugh, on your weather Diana . . . we had a few days in the past couple of weeks when the humidex was over the 100 mark, but nothing like what you've got all summer. Our temps right now are 'seasonal' for this time of year -- about 25C which is the mid to upper 70's, and the humidity is about mid-70% level too. Of course, come January or February we'll be below freezing and ready to come visit you in Louisianna. You take care of that incision, girl.

Later, gang . . .

Hi all,

Another beautiful day although a bit too humid. At least when the temps are in the mid 20's the humidity doesn't feel too bad.

BrokenButterfly - Hello and welcome.

GainingWeightInLa - Hello and welcome. Are you from Canada or do you just wish you were? :D

Meowee - As a uterine cancer survivor I have a bit of advice - if you don't want it that's fine. If you are really against having the surgery I would have them do a biopsy of any growth that they have found. I was also told that 'it is a very large fibroid tumour and not cancerous or anything' - to their surprise and mine once it had been removed and tested it was found to be cancerous. I'm not trying to scare you but until something has been physically tested they do not know for sure.

Hope everyone has a great day! ;)

Hi, everybody. Wow, I cannot even fathom the 70's in August! How nice that must be! I've lived in Louisiana (southern US--Gulf of Mexico borders the south end of our state for anyone who isn't familiar) all my life...you'd think I'd be used to these 100+ degree days (with heat index they say it feels like 110-115 degrees....I think it feels hotter than that....then again, those values are taken in the shade, so I guess it does feel hotter than that). You can literally almost melt here in the summer. Last night on our local news, the news anchor had gone out in the hottest part of the day yesterday and placed a can of Coke on the dash of a closed up vehicle. Within I think 5 minutes the can was bowed out on the top and within 15 minutes, the can had actually sprung a leak and was dripping coke out in the car. AMAZING! (or scary, I guess.)
Anyway, went to Dr. today...my incision has another infected place about 2" deep, but not big around. I think I'll never get well. They've told me to eat lots of protein to speed up the healing process.....I'm trying....Am afraid to brave the scales...I know I've probably gained some back. :( Just what I needed was for someone to TELL ME to eat more of something. :( LOLOL

Oh well, that' my drama for the day. Hope everyone has a GREAT night! :)

Hi everyone,

The scale is moving in the right direction again this morning - it's great to be back on track. :carrot:

Mornings are cool again (12 right now at 6) - this seems to be sticking, what a relief. We're still up at 30 during the day but it's refreshing to have cooler mornings - and much better than the weeks of 35+. Lots of flies around though, not the biting kind, but annoying nonetheless.

Kodiak is sleeping in his crate in the kitchen now, still gets up once or twice a night but better than whining all night.

Yesterday the air hockey table we got for the boys' birthdays arrived. They were very excited! The original plan was that we would hide it until Owen's birthday (Sept 2) but it's too big, so we let them have it now, they can use it for the rest of the school holidays, and get small tokens on their actual birthdays. They were all born in September so it's a busy month for us.

Have a great day everyone,
Jax

Hi there . . .

Overcast and humid again today, even after the massive thunderstorms we had last night -- but it's not too hot -- so, all in all, in doesn't feel too bad out there.

All three kittens hate me. The three adults got breakfast; the kittens got crated for their trip to the vet. They will, no doubt hate me even more when they wake up with pain after their little surgeries. Oh well, bet it makes them forget about being hungry for a few hours. Probably won't be home until Thursday and then after that they should recover pretty quickly.

Nothing else is new around here . . . the house is definitely overly quiet with the feline population cut in half. Have a great day, everybody . . . see you soon. :carrot:

Well ladies, I'm somewhat happier today than I have been since surgery. Feel like things are kinda somewhat getting back to some sort of resemblence of normal...not completely, but I'll take anything! :) Tomorrow is registration for school....mixed about that. Not ready yet...we had so many plans for the summer....instead, I spent it having surgeries. :( But I've done okay eating today so far. I'm eating far less than pre-surgery. Still not braving the scales. :) I'm not feeling that much better. lolol

If I can just heal my infections now................

Diana - you look WAAAY better. I know it's hard to see the differences in ourselves but you look great in your current picture, and your face is definitely much slimmer. Way to go! :cheer: I hope the infections begin healing and you can feel better too. What are you doing in school?

Linda, I have to take the puppy to the vet for shots this week, he's not going to be thrilled either. I hope the kittens are feeling better.

Hi there . . . another busy, busy day going on for some strange reason . . . at keast the weather is semi-cooperative. It's still very humid and pretty overcast, but not too hot.

Talked to the Vet earlier this morning and the triplets came through surgery just fine and dandy. Purrecious is really missing them and is trying to create enough havoc on her own to keep me from missing them too much. The old guys -- Jazz and Mouse -- seem to be enjoying the peace and quiet.

Hi, everyone! Thanks for everyone's honesty about my pics. In all, I've lost a total of 40 lbs...give or take 2 or 3. At my heaviest I was 260. I was at 218 the other day, but haven't weighed again since then. The lowest I've been on this journey was 215...I weighed that once in my nightgown, got off scales and got right back on and was 216. lolol I'm so close to Onederland...but so far away! I want it....I'll have it one day. Hopefully when I get over all this junk I'm going thru right now I'll achieve it fairly quickly. I really think the stage 4 endometreosis was holding me back in the exercise department. I just couldn't make myself exercise for very extended periods of time.

Jax, I'm not going to school....I registered my son today. He's going into third grade. We got there this morning and found his name....he had (on paper anyway) the teacher he was hoping for. We got to the classroom and there was a new teacher...she said the old teacher had decided to quit like day before yesterday and she was taking his place. :( My son was understandably a little disappointed. But he has some good friends in his class so we're hoping for a good year. (crossing our fingers)

We're off to McDonald's. We always have a mcdonald's date on school registration day and on the last day of school and he's driving me crazy about it! Hope I can have some restraint! :)

Have a great day, everyone! See you all later~

Hi, All!

Another beautiful day here on the MA coast. We took a quick trip to the beach after work, and MAN, was that water cold!! I'm not a paranoid person, but I did keep a "weather eye" out for the great whites that have been gobbling up seals off Cape Cod!

Diana - What a difference between the two pictures!! Keep up the great work!

Meowee - It must seem like a mini-vacation with half the usual suspects gone, but I bet you're looking forward to having them home just the same, eh? I'm glad they came through their surgeries well. They shouldn't be nearly as rambuctious now (right?).

Chocco - Congratulations on the HUGE weight loss!! Yippee!!!!

Hi everyone,

Exercise is scaled back for a while - I tripped over Kodiak walking last night (puppy between the legs!) and wrenched my left ankle. It's not too bad - we put ice on it and I can walk, but no running or exercise DVDs for now. I can do upper body weights today, but that's it. :( Of course I had a pity party for myself while icing it, a bacardi breezer cocktail and a rice krispy square. Not the best for food either, but I did keep under my 1600 calories for the day!

Em - I'm not sure what you mean. I can't add text to the ticker itself, but I typed the text in my sig which goes below the ticker. For that I typed the text in the box underneath the url for the ticker.

It's supposed to be in the low 30's for the rest of the week  and the rain they were forecasting has disappeared from the forecast. Too bad. Apparantly the conditions are "excellent" for west-nile-virus bearing mosquitos. Great!

Have a good one everyone!

Hi gang . . . :grouphug:

Diana . . . MacDonald's is getting a little better, you know. Just stay away from the greasy fries (have a side salad with light dressing instead) and toss half of your bun. Still not the greatest, healthiest food available - but definitely better.

Em . . . Hopefully the kittens will be a little more inclined to behave now -- time will tell. BTW, Jax gave you the right answer to your question. Just go to the top of the forum page, click on "Quick Links" then click on "Edit Signature". Just type the text you want to appear under (or above) your signature in that box where the actual url code for your ticker is, click "save" and you are in business.

Annette . . . So sorry you are having a weather-change-migraine. I know just how you feel because I get them too. Yuck. Hope it passes quickly.

Jax . . . Amazing how one puppy can be in the road all the time isn't it. Take care of the ankle and stay away from those 'skitters.

Weather is nice around here this morning; doesn't seem as humid as it's been the past couple of days. Good Evening, All!

REALLY sticky here in MA this evening. Today was hot, but not nearly as humid as it is now about 10:00 p.m. Whew!

I've taken a big step today (for the better)! I've decided to stop working for the family for whom I've been baby-sitting for the past 3 years. It was just getting to be a hassle; I love them dearly (the boys are 9 and 14, and the older one is high-functioning autistic), they're good friends, but they just don't appreciate me or have respect for my time. I would baby-sit their 2 boys after school during the school year, and mostly full-time in the summers, but they just don't have any appreciation for the needs and requirements of a single parent. C'est la vie. I'm sure something else will come along. But it had better come along soon!

Jax and Meowee - Thanks for the "sig" info. :thanks: I don't really have anything profound to say, but it was bugging me that I didn't know where to type the text! Jax, take care of that ankle. Let someone else do the "puppy shuffle" for awhile!

Annette - Wow, it sounds like a horrific migraine! :headache: Migraines can be brought on by many things, including changes in barometric pressure and other assorted weather changes. I hope you're feeling better!

Catherine - Can you believe I have to travel all the way to Maine (from Massachusetts) if I want Tim Horton's coffee?? :coffee2: It's not fair! Dunkin' Donuts just isn't the same.... I also miss hot turkey sandwiches from Irving, but that's probably for the better....

It's so hot and humid that I feel sloth-like, and like I'm gaining weight just from the humidity! But, happily, cooler air is on the way!

Good night, All!

Hi everyone!

Well the ankle feels better again today, yesterday was OK as long as I didn't twist it or do anything stupid. I did some weights :workout: (upper body only) but without my DVD as motivation it wasn't a great workout. I'm going to keep resting it today, then maybe tomorrow I'll do my ripped DVD without the lunges/squats rather than trying to do something myself. That way I keep the ankle unstressed but still get in something of a workout.

Em - something will come along soon. Good luck!

Annette - I hope that headache leaves you alone soon.

Tim Horton's is only in Medicine Hat, not here, but the boys always want to go there if we're in town. We usually end up at the one in the hospital when Andrew has his speech therapy appointments. It's OK if it's cool, I just have coffee, but if it's really hot out I'm tempted by the ice-caps. Made with milk not cream of course, but still 150 calories for a small one.

I have no idea what Irving's is. Must be an eastern thing, since I've never seen one here.

Have a great day everyone,

Hi there . . .

Irving is a Maritimes (New Brunswick based) Oil Refinery. They own an awful lot (most) of the gas stations in the Atlantic Provinces and a lot in Quebec as well. The Irving Big Stop restaurants are also all over the place in the Eastern part of the country. They are famous for the size of their portions -- probably enough food to serve two in most cases -- their fish and chips are fantastic, but be sure to request a side plate so you can offload some of the food; otherwise you have no room to even fork-cut your fish. Their sandwiches and toast are home-made bread which is cut about an inch thick -- Diet friendly they are NOT.

Later . . . :carrot:

BrokenButterfly

Yes, and if we were travelling across the province and needed to stop for breakfast, we would only stop at Irving, hence our family dubbed "Irving Breakfast". The Irving in Deer Lake is the best one i've been to. All the truckers stop there too.

Hi, All -

It's mighty quiet 'round these parts! I hope everybody is enjoying a last "summer fling"! ;)

I've been incredibly busy since the end of last week, when I parted ways with the family for whom I used to babysit. On Saturday, I sat for two kids, ages 3 and 5 (along with my Daughter, who is 4), from 12:30 to 10:30. From 3:45 until 8:30 on that day I also had the next-door neighbors' kids, who are 2 and 6. On Sunday, I baby-sat for two kids, ages 2 and 5, from 6:30 until 10:00. And all this week, I'm sitting for two kids, ages 2 and 4, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:50, and then two OTHER kids from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. :dizzy:

Oh, and did I mention that I'm also cat- and house-sitting for a family about 30 minutes from my town? :coffee: If I didn't like coffee before, I love it now!

Ah, the joys of being a single, low-income parent! But at least I have the work, and I'll be able to pay the rent in September.

Has anyone ever had a vitamin B12 shot? I'm wondering if they work (to boost energy)? My stress level is at an all-time high, and it's interfering with my sleep (yes, it really IS almost 1:30 a.m.!). :stress:

Well, I hope Everyone is enjoying August. At least the weather here has cooled off; it's just perfect, cool and sunny!

Boy, if I ever needed an "Irving Breakfast", it's right about now! :hun:

Meowee - Perhaps you could leave a little "present" of your own on some of the Kitties favorite places to nap? ;)

Good morning all ,

Practiceliving - hope you feel better soon . please don't sneeze my way . I have not been sick in a while .

Meowee - are those kittens still harassing you ? I guess they keep a grudge Eh! Not to be gross but before I had my cat fixed he was about 3yrs old at the time. He is an indoor cat so we just did not see why we should fix him. Anyway we lived in a trailor at the time and a female cat had a litter of kittens under our trailor . Shortly after this Alley (my cat) started spraying . I guess he was trying to be territorial . We could actuallly hear the adult cat from the bathroom and so Alley would follow me to the bathroom and while i would be busy on the throne he wouldk spray the washing machine . He did this a couple of times and then the last straw was in the middle of the night .
I woke up up with a wet face and his butt was right there . I was furious . My husband told me I was crazy til i shoved my pillow in his face to smell. First thing in the morning he had an appointment for the end of the week . I just love that he thinks he owns me . NOT !! territorial cat . The morning he was going in for surgery in the wee hours . He did it again . So Meowee , how are the kittens sounding now? Now that everyone is probably totally grossed out . I think i have to go get ready . Need to run to the bank .

Ok then talk to you all later .

Hi everyone,

Well this week should be better - my ankle has healed (pretty fast, which makes me feel all this training has helped with strengthening it) and the weather is cooler, but I am having the "blahs". :(

I think a lot of it is knowing that the two of the boys go back to school next week, so putting off stuff until then. While I am looking forward to having some time for me (they will all be in school come September) I seem to be leaving stuff to then that I could be working on now. :o

My diet has been great this week - until mid-afternoon when I seem to have regular binges. I need to get out of that - I don't want it to become a habit. :?:

Annette - sorry to hear about the cat problems. I hope he behaves after the surgery. Yuk!

Meowee - are those kittens doing better today? Is your bed clean? I hope my cats don't read the 'puter. ;) Don't want them getting any ideas!! :D

Em - you do sound busy! Are you planning on getting another longer-term sitting job or are you looking for day to day after a long time with the last people?

practiceliving, we haven't had summer colds this year but there have been some years they were horrible. I think it's been too hot :hot: and dry for anything to live here this summer.

Have a good day all,

Jax

Hi gang . . . :grouphug:

We are having another gorgeous day with seasonal temperatures (mid-20's), nice comfy humidity levels, and :sunny:. Just about as good as it gets.

Here's an interesting article from Prevention that I thought you would enjoy. It's about doing your own thing when figuring out the new and improved lifestyle we all want rather than trying to stick strictly to a pre-developed "Plan". Hope you enjoy it.

Okay ANNETTE . . . . . . Your story definitely makes my kittens seem well-behaved in comparison. Hope he's better now.

Oh JAX . . . . . . after things quiet down and all the kids are in school, bet you get bored.

Hang in there, EM . . . hopefully things will calm down for you. Afraid I don't know anything about B12 shots for boosting energy. Maybe ask your pharmacist - I find mine is a great source of information on stuff like that.

Anyway . . . touch wood . . . kittens seem to be settling down again and my bed has been staying dry. Hope everybody is having a great day and a great week. Keep on doing the good stuff, gang . . . see you later . . . :carrot:

Hi ladies. Hope everyone's doing well.

Annette, you reminded me of one reason why I don't like cats! LOLOL EWIE!!

Well, we're into our first full week of school. I'm healing nicely (still have quite a way to go...probably atleast two more weeks before my wounds are good enough to not have home health coming out)...anyone know any good cures for hot flashes? They're eating my lunch!! They're keeping me awake at night. That, even more than the initial post-op pain, has by far been the worst! Of course, I'm hoping that a lot of it is the 100 degree weather and that when it finally cools off (usually sometime around the first of October) that my hot flashes will cool off as well. :)

I'm up a few lbs on the scales...probably because they told me to eat lots of protein to help w/healing. Will be glad when things are back to normal! :)

BBL!

Good Morning folks!

Well I'm still stuck at 175, but had a small NSV yesterday. I took the boys swimming and my suit is too big!! It hasn't stretched so I guess I have gotten smaller. Woo hoo. :cp: I stayed pretty much on plan yesterday too.

On a less positive note I used to swim all the time but since moving here we're too far from a pool - I found I can't swim very far without getting out of breath! I may have to work in a weekly swimming session :swim: with the grocery run. One of my fitness goals has been to compete in a triathalon (or mini-tri) by myself - I've done the swimming part for a team a couple of times, and have been working on running (not too bad :running:) and cycling (hard for me :bike2:). Now the swimming needs work too. Grrrrr...

And I'm getting an iPod!! Well actually DH has decided that his doesn't have enough room for an entire work day (10 hours) of songs. So he's getting a bigger one and I can have the old one. I'm looking forward to running workouts with some music. :yay:

Meowee - I don't plan on getting bored once the boys are in school. I plan on getting things together!!

It's a cooler cloudy day here. I wish it would rain...
Have a great day,
Jax

Hi, All!

Just a quick  before I scoot off to bed!

It sounds like everyone is gearing up for back-to-school. The public schools here start on 4 September, but we don't go back until the 10th. Yee-hah! One extra week of summer!

I have been working, working, working, and am totally exhausted!

Jax - I'm looking for another long-term situation, and am currently interviewing families for the fall. I think what I'm going to end up doing is working for one family on a Monday afternoon, another family on Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday, and a third family on Fridays! BTW - a triathalon is a GREAT goal! Any one of those sports is tough, and to do all three is THREE-mendous! (sorry, I couldn't help myself!).

I hope all the summer colds, surgeries, headaches, allergies, and cat problems are getting better!

We're off to a local fair tomorrow!

Have a great night, All!

Hi everyone,

I hope you all have a great day! I've been up since 3  - courtesy of Kodiak. He's not our favourite puppy this morning. Ah well, such is the way of puppies. But the scale moved down below 175 finally! I think I've been there since mid-July. I guess I should get up at 3 to weigh more often!

Looks cloudy today. Maybe rain? Or perhaps more clouds waving as they head to Sask.

Good Evening, All -

I can't tell you how much I enjoy this site. :goodvibes Even if I only have a couple of minutes, it's nice to check in and see how everyone's doing. The "naughty" animals cause concern (although we all know it'll turn out alright!), the stalled weight loss causes frustration, etc. :tantrum: But the smallest victories really help to spur me on -- a bathing suit that's too big, busting through a plateau (finally!), or reaching a mini-goal. :high: It's all good. And I guess that's what this place is for. So, thanks. :cp:

It was hot here today on the South Shore. :hot: I took my 4 year old and her best friend to a large agricultural fair not far from here. We had great fun, but there was no shade, so it was a scorcher! Still, the girls had fun riding the rides, petting the animals, :ink: :moo: :chicken: and eating junk :jeno: :cookie: :burger: (ok, I did, too!).

The t.v. station that airs the Bruins games just started their pre-season shows. Yippee!!

I'm off to bed. :tired: Have a great night, All!

Hi all . . . :grouphug:

Today we have sunshine and, while that is nice after the torrential rains we got yesterday, we also have 97% humidity to go with it. High humidity is one of the things that causes me to retain water (too much sodium is another, of course) like mad so I'll be trying to up my water intake to help flush the ankles out today.

Other than that, nothing big on my agenda. Hope you all have a great day planned. Keep things moving and shaking, gang . . . see you soon. :carrot:

Hi gang . . . . . . Where is everybody hiding? Wherever it is, I hope you are all having lots and lots of great fun.

Poor old Nova Scotia set "mugginess" records again yesterday. Today is supposed to be even worse. Some thunderstorms are being predicted for later this afternoon and, hopefully, that will clear out some of the humidity. In the meantime, think I'll be spending most of my time indoors in front of the A/C.

See you later . . . :grouphug:

Hi, All -

Meowee - NS isn't the only place suffering through "The Muggies"! It's been brutal here for the past couple of days. It's supposed to break by tomorrow, and it can't come fast enough!

I had to go to a wedding yesterday afternoon at a VERY swanky country club. The wedding was at 4:00 p.m., and the thermometer read 98 F at 4:30 for the OUTDOOR cocktail reception. Most of us beat a hasty retreat indoors; the open bar helped immensely! (ahhhhh - gin and tonic and lime). The diet suffered a little bit (mmmm - scallops in bacon), but the "naughty" foods were mobile, being served by roving wait staff, and it was just too hot to chase any of them around! So, we settled for "stationary" foods, like antipasto with grilled veggies. The dinner was grilled sirloin accompanied by something that was either gnocci or marshmallows.... Fortunately, the cake was completely inedible, so I did quite well!

I have my annual physical tomorrow with my first new doctor in 24 years. I'm dreading the weigh-in!

It looks like it may be "movie night" here. We're house-sitting in a very old house with NO air conditioning. I'm all for roughing it, but COME ON, PEOPLE!

Later, 'Gator(s)!

Hello all,

I can certainly sympathize with the mugginess--we had that here in July. Today is the first day here in about a week and a half that it doesn't feel like the middle of October. I was certainly hoping that summer wasn't over yet.

I'm trying to get back on the workout track after a summer off--broke my tailbone in May and it hurt to do just about anything. I'm considering getting up bright and early before work to go work out, since I usually feel much too lazy after work, but I'm worried that I'll be too tired to be useful at the office. Or is it true what they say about exercising first thing in the morning, that it gives you energy for the rest of the day??:?:

Later all

Kinda half-heartedly started back on the wagon today, although I just ate some chocolate....:(.....I find that I just get hungry so easily now. Hormonal?? I'm not sure. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day. :) I'm gonna pray about it.

Hello everyone,

I've been very busy the last couple of weeks and I haven't been posting. I hope everyone is doing fine. The weather here is so much nicer now that it's cooled off a bit.

My girls (cats) are settling in quite nicely so I hope things will continue to go well with them.

I find that I just get hungry so easily now. Hormonal?? I'm not sure.

I take it you had a hysterectomy Diana. When I had mine they didn't remove my ovaries and I had all of the PMS on a monthly basis that I had always had. Then a year later thay had to remove my overies - I was 40 - and I went into full menopause almost overnight - hot flashes, hunger, etc. It does get better with time. ;)

Talk soon,

Yes, I'm 34 and I had a total--I had one ovary that was the size of a large orange, one the size of a large lemon. They had to GO! Plus I had stage 4 endometriosis (frozen pelvis...everything was stuck together). Today I feel depressed. I think my hormones are just raging (or lack of hormones..whichever the case may be). My house is a mess...I don't wanna clean it up. My 2 yr old is getting on my very last nerve again today! I need to go to the grocery store (I have just a very little bit of toilet paper left), but I don't want to go anywhere. I just want to lay on the couch and do nothing. I just feel like crying. :( I'll be 5 weeks post op on Thursday...can't have any hormones until atleast 6 weeks post op. What am I gonna do for the next 2 weeks?? Eat, probably. lol

Sorry to be such a downer...

It was really hot here again today, but it feels as though the humidity is diminishing. It looks like it's going to be a stellar weekend, weather-wise (it's a holiday weekend here in the U.S.). Yippee!!

Hi everyone,

The forcast here is for sunny and hot - 30's - on the long weekend. I'm looking forward to a bit cooler fall weather.

Not too much new here. Just getting used to the cats.

My younger son doesn't go back until Thursday, Grade 12. He needs to get back to a schedule - too many late nights and sleep ins. My older son has decided to take a year off from university. I'm okay with that as long as he does something. He's finishing his summer guarding job tomorrow. He keeps telling me he's getting another job, but.....
