I am at my wits ends with regaining weight. I am considering gastric bypass, but am a bit afraid of it all.
My question is, and forgive me for saying this, am I big enough for this procedure? I weigh 229, BMI is 45.5 but I have no hi BP, moderately high Chol (220), with no other medical conditions. I am afraid of dying from heart disease (which runs in the family) and I am struggling with self esteem issues due to weight (not to mention, sore feet and now knees hurt).
Before I call the doc. I wanted to get some perspective from someone here.
Thanks for your help.

hi there, arrow! the basic requirements are a BMI of 40 or higher, which translates into being about 100 pounds overweight. comorbidities are essential if you have a lower BMI - like about 38 or so.

as for the rest of the qualifications, only your insurance plan will know for sure! sooooo keep asking questions! and good luck to you.
