100 lb. Club - *gulp* Signed up for Tri #2
Goddess Jessica

Ok, ok. I finally did it. I signed up for the second triathlon. This will be exactly one year since my first triathlon. I'm nervous and excited and freaking out! :)
A special thanks to all of you who inquired (interrogated) me about the second tri and encouraged me to do it again.
I finally went back and read my first tri story again and all those butterflies started again in my stomach. And I thought, "Do I really want to do this?" But then I remembered catching a glimpse of myself that monday morning at work when the numbers written on my arm in marker hadn't quite washed off and I realized how freaking awesome I was! Yeah, I want to do this again.
Ugh - now the training phase begins! Yikes!

Woohoo!!! You rock! I'm totally jealous, because I'll never be able to do a triathlon. The running part is the only thing I could do. I never learned to swim, sadly (I know, I know, I need to get on that) and believe it or not, I never even learned to ride a bike. I know that sounds insane -- there are sort of reasons for it but it's a long story.
Anyway, do you have a link to a post about the first tri? I don't think I ever read the story of it and I would love to! And I look forward to reading about the second one too!

I wasn't around when you did the first one so I went back and read your old post. That was freakin impressive; I wish I had your guts. Frankly just being seen in public in a bathing suit is amazing.
Good luck, train hard.

Selfish as it may be, I'm just looking forward to reading your account of your second tri. You write with such humor and grace. And it's so inspiring that you don't let your size dictate what you can and can't do. Clydesdales! I just found that name to be so incredibly tacky. Goddess. Now that's an accurate description!

Hi Jessica, I was just thinking about you today! I just recently read your 1st tri thread and today when I signed up for my first one at Mission Bay I even told me husband "I should pm her and see if she's doing it." Unfortunately I'm doing to the one Oct 14. It's all women and they have a supersprint distance so I wanted to do that for my first one because of the swim. Too bad we couldn't have the 3FC team!

How cool! I just signed up for my first "try"athalon. It's a women only thing that you can choose your distances. You swim 100 yards, then there's a 2 mile bike loop you can do 1,2, or three times. Then there's a half mile run loop you can do 1,2, or three times.
It's nothing like what you're going to do, but it's a huge step for me. Maybe I'll do a real triathalon next summer. I can do the swim and the 6 mile bike no problem, but I'm trying to get so I can run at least one half mile loop before I have to walk.

Traci,
My first tri, I walked the entire 5K. I hate HATE to run. I am trying to incorporate running into my walking routine but I doubt I will actually do it come race day.

Oh, Jessica, just keep doing it. I have all these things I've never done because I wasn't an athlete, wasn't coordinated, wasn't in shape. And I've been fat. So, I decided to do things that athletic, coordinated, in-shape thin people do. And it's such a huge difference! I can't run far yet - just the straight-aways, walk the curves on the high school track or run one lap on the indoor Y track, then walk a lap, but OH! I'm RUNNING! It is so empowering.
I also - now - eat yogurt, cut the sleeves off t-shirts and ride a bike!

Jess -
Your first Tri story was very inspiring. I'm toying around with the idea of maybe doing one sometime next year. (Not Sure yet)
I've been poking around http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/ There is a section on the message board for the clyds/athenas, but even there it seems like most of them are smaller then I am.
How did you set up your training program with the limitations that us heavier girls have? I'm hoping to drop atleast another 30-40 by the end of the year, so I feel like maybe by then I'll be ready to tri the tri. I'm amazed that you were brave enough to do it at the weight you were. That so rocks.
Right now I can't run... at all. I see you walked it. Do most of them allow that? I walk about 4 miles a day. I haven't been riding since last year, but I've gone as far as 28 miles before so I can probably get to that place again with a few months work. I don't think I've swam since high school though that part freaks me out a bit.
Anyway, I think it's awsome can't wait to hear your story about #2 in September.
