100 lb. Club - Will I continue to get more disproportionate?

I have found, to my delight, that a lot of weight has come off of my stomach area. However, very little seems to have come off my lower body. My hips, thighs, calves, and especially my butt seem to stubbornly hang on to every ounce of fat. In fact, my 11-year-old son walked by as I was looking at myself in the hallway mirror, and I remarked that I was excited that I at least have a shape now. He said, "Aren't you supposed to have an hourglass shape?" I said, "Yes, and I sort of do now. It starts here, goes in at my waist, and then comes back out." And he said, "Yeah. WAY OUT!"
He was so right. I'm finding myself able to fit into size 14 tops, but size 18 bottoms continue to be too small. I'm frustrated, because I can't seem to find anything to wear that emphasizes my smaller waist without also emphasizing my huge posterior. And I'm a little afraid that when I get down to my goal weight, I will be wearing a size 00 in tops, while my size 18 pants are still clinging to me, trying to restrain my stubbornly large lower regions. Since I know that spot reduction is a myth, am I just destined to be disproportionate for the rest of my life?

I always lose from my hips and thighs last. I'm just in an 18, which is frustrating (but those 18's are getting looser!). Make sure you're exercising. I've only lost a few pounds in the last month, but I'm losing inches still because clothes that fit are loose now and clothes that were too tight to get on are now able to slide right on. In contrast, I'm in a L or XL top, size 14/16 and larger and I'm swimming in the top.

Laurie, I lost weight exactly the same way that you are. And I despaired that I'd ever look normal! I couldn't find pants to fit me because of the enormous difference between my waist and hips. You could have parked a truck in the gap in the back of my waistband!
I started off in an 18 on top and 22 on the bottom, so I was always unevenly proportioned. And all the weight came off the top first, of course. I had already reached a "small" on top by the time I was in the 170's and at that point, I looked a lot like a bowling pin. Thank heavens, the last 25 pounds that I lost came off 100% from my hips and thighs. I ended up being a size 4 in pants! Down from a 22. :faint: Now I'm often smaller on the bottom than the top when I go shopping. How bizarre is that??
So don't despair! I'm sure it will all even out in the end! And for me, it was a good reason to push on until I reached goal. If I had stopped losing weight when I still was in the 160's, I'd still be a bowling pin. :dizzy:

My situation seems to be the opposite! I've always been a little smaller on the bottom half than the top, about one size difference when it comes to clothing. Well, I seem to be losing mostly from my bottom half. Jeans and underwear are so loose but I'm not seeing much of a change from the waist up. I look forward to the top catching up because face, shoulders, back, stomach... Those are the things I'm most self conscious about.

Hi LaurieDawn, it is happening like that for me too. I started out with a size 20 bottom, size 16 top. Now I am wearing a 12/14/Medium top and my bottom is still large! 18, sometimes 16, depends on the store.
Wrap around skirts work well for me because I can move the button and make the waist smaller and I find them slimming. So look for that style :) Also, skirts with elasticized waists. I hate the look of an elastic waistband but it can be covered by a top.

Oh I would smack his smart mouth! ;)
Don't worry. It's all going to come out in the wash. People lose different areas first, second, etc. My dad lost a lot of weight in his 40's and he remarked to my mother that he thought he would look like Beetlejuice at the end of movie when he got his head shrunk because he lost a lot of weight in his face first!

I'm not sure how comforting these responses were ;), but I am so glad to know that my issue is not unique. I guess for the next sixty pounds or so, I'll anticipate looking like a bowling pin - and if it turns out differently, I'll be pleasantly surprised. And, really, I guess I'd prefer to be shaped like a bowling pin than a beach ball. Until then, I appreciate the style tips. I have been trying to figure out what I should wear. Thanks to everyone for helping me understand. Looking good has never been a priority for me, but I am really starting to want it now.

I have the opposite problem (my arms/chest are NOT shrinking, while my legs, abs and hips are), and the same worry. Eventually it's going to have to shrink, right?
Good to know others are in the same boat!
Keep on keepin' on. :)

Not to worry - it will all even out. My upstairs has always been my issue. The girls are finally starting to deflate :), but for some reason they seem to be the last to go.

Meg and everyone that lost ~ Thanks for your words of encouragement!
My problem area is my stomach. My rear is firming up and my thighs are shrinking, my chest and arms are smaller too. If it fits my waist, my legs and butt are lost in the fabric. If it fits my chest, its tight across my belly. Slimming undergarments won't help unless they reach up to my ribs! I was beginning to think my belly was never going to get smaller! It might be the last place I'll lose, but it should shrink! I have hope again.....:D
