Okay, everyone, as is the tradition, I start a new thread when I personally start a new challenge.
Below is a short explanation of how this challenge works so all you newcomers can take a look and decide if you're game or not! I hope you are! Hop aboard and enjoy the ride. We've got a great bunch of supportive people, so I hope you'll give us a try. A lot of people try for a while and then disappear.. I hope some of you will keep trying. There is NO shame in starting over. Remember, it's not over till you give up. And our motto around here is:
NEVER GIVE UP!!...Just start OVER!!
EXPLANATION AND RULES:
It works like this: you decide you'll do something for 21 days straight, every single day, so keep it doable. Then you count ....one through 21.....and if you flub it, you MUST go back to zero and start over again. Everyone will be on different days. You can start anytime. At the beginning of the challenge you declare what level it is -- Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 means you feel it's a relatively easy challenge for you and means you only give yourself ONE pause day (see explanation of pause days below). Level 2 would give you two pause days and so on...
And taking NO pause days is what I'm going to call "aceing a challenge," as in "I'm aiming on aceing this one!" Yowzah!! :cb:
With a pause day you pause in your counting and continue the next day with the number you left off with. Pause days are NOT substitutes for days, i.e. Day 12 -- Day 13 -- Pause Day -- Day 14..... I suggest taking a pause day late in the game (better to go back to Day 1 early on) if you need a break or screw up when you're well into the challenge, meaning, when you're on Day 15 or something like that.
In any case, the trick is to keep going. The momentum builds and it's great incentive to stick to your guns, cause if you don't.........back to START you go. :( And the really great thing about this challenge is that you are forming new habits that will wipe out the old! AND, you get to do it with a great bunch of really supportive people to whom you are accountable! :grouphug:
In the interest of maintaining structure, a sense of solidarity and facilitating support I ask anyone who wishes to join this thread to please strive to follow the following guidelines while participating in this challenge and in posting.
1. Although this is a fabulous support group, the focus is to be on your CHALLENGE/S and/or other people's challenge/s AND weight loss, whether your challenge is about it or not. Please keep the challenge a priority, although we welcome chattiness! This means tell us what day you're on when you post and it's a good idea to make regular mention of just what your challenge is. This an action-based thread. Our members are ON a challenge, RESTARTING a challenge, or just in between and looking to start up again REAL SOON. ;) We also welcome posts from admirers, encouragers, and old friends!
2. Please refrain from posting food logs or recipes, except where you are really looking for help and advice on your eating. If journaling is your challenge, please keep the journaling off the thread and in a notebook or blog and just tell us if you've done what you set out to do. We have ALL types of dieters here, low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, vegetarians, meat-lovers...please use simple mentions if you have something you want to share and then links and/or private messages to do so.
3. Please do NOT go into glowing accounts of any slipups, food indulgences or binges, what we here call "food porn." Simple mentions are fine, but use of smilies :censored: :tape: etc. as substitutes where possible is encouraged.
4. Please keep this a secular thread. Of course, passing references to your beliefs, a bit of introduction about your beliefs, brief faith-related words of encouragement are fine.
5. Please show support, support, support! This is key. :grouphug: You can waffle on about yourself but please, at least occasionally, come up and look around at others and what they are doing and MENTION it with words of encouragement and/or praise or sympathy. We understand "busy," poor computer connections, and bouts of self-pity and life problems where the focus turns to "me" and dealing with those problems, but these should be temporary, not a habit! ('cept in the computer case.)
In conclusion, let me say, the above are just that, GUIDELINES. Please realize that these guidelines have been added in an attempt to keep this a supportive and beneficial thread, at the LEAST, to those who need it MOST, those for whom weight loss is the hardest and, more often than not, the most crucial as well as for those who still, perhaps despite great success, know all too well that the road they walk will always be a slippery one. :^:
The guidelines are also meant to cultivate an atmosphere of consideration and concern for ALL, not individually, but AS A GROUP.
Well, all's said. Please join us!!

Ok, people. I am back! The new thread is here and I'm declaring my challenges....gads....:stress:
1) No alcohol! -- I'm going strong on this one. Last drink was June 12!
2) Only 1 sugar break a day! This includes sugar in coffee or tea! And it's to be like ONE thing, not one binge! :nono:
3) Become hungry!! :hungry: Stop the grazing. Let myself get hungry at least once a day. Stop and ask myself....are you hungry? If yes, truly yes, wait a while longer...then eat...and write it down in a log.
4) Food log!!!!!! I always stop after a day or two.... Keep it going!!!
Ok, there you have 'em. Now let's (me) go get 'em!!! :cb:
CBETA -- Yes, I'm here and OK, at least from the typhoon and earthquake. I didn't even feel it in Tokyo though because I was out walking. When I got to the train they were delayed it said because of a quake, but I hadn't realized it was so big in Niigata. Poor people up there. They have been hit a lot lately. CBETA, Thanks for the cheer. I'm back here in Tokyo now, but was in the States, Ohio and Penna., yes, near Pittsburgh. It was nice! :) Good luck on your challenges! How long before bed are you not allowing yourself to eat?
jolly -- Thanks! Yes, I'm OK. Niigata is on the other coast, on the Japan Sea. I'm in Tokyo, on the Pacific. They felt it here though, but like I said to CB, I was out walking and didn't feel it. Still, it could happen anytime here. I keep saying that but I do nothing to prepare. I guess I keep thinking, what for? the chances of being home are small. Still, that's stupid thinking, isn't it? If there is any chance of being able to grab a pack with things to help in a quake, I should have the bag prepared. Good going on your challenges. I'm glad to see you back and working at it. You're inspiring. Please wish me luck!
Pink -- You're doing great too! :sunny: Thanks for sticking with the thread in my absence... :^:
kalani, helpmelose, are you still with us?
Apple, dj, come back!!!! (...my come-back-dj-Apple dance...)

The PUSH for 68!!
Also, I am declaring my push for 68 kgs. How soon can I get there...getting there being defined as weighing 68 kg five out of seven days in a row!! Can I do it by my birthday? (Aug. 8) Probably not, but I can try!! Here goes!!
Every day I am going to repeat this mantra -- PUSH FOR 68 -- Yeah!! :spin:
07-18-2007, 08:23 PM
Hey all. Thanks for starting the new thread, REd. And way to go on your challenges! :cb: :cb: I am glad you weren't hurt in the earthquake. Scary stuff.
I took a pause today on following the menu. I realize it was stress - I was kind of overwhelmed with everything I want to get done tonight before I leave for a work conference tomorrow. Will work harder tomorrow.
So, here are the stats:
Daily post: day 6, 3 pauses left
Follow workout plan: day 6, 3 pauses left
Follow menu: day 5, 2 pauses left.
Take care all
07-19-2007, 08:27 AM
Hi all. Just posting quick since I won't be at my computer again until tomorrow night. I did make it to the gym this morning though. Almost talked myself out of it (ooooh - I have so much to do, and I can always work out tonight. . . ) but I went and did a mini workout. If I can, I will do something again tonight.
Take care all
07-19-2007, 06:33 PM

2) Sugar Challenge -- No go! Starting over July 20.
3) Become hungry! -- Started July 19. Will allow this as I was hungry more than once. Must try to be more consistent though. Day 1 completed!
4) Food log! Total waste. Must restart July 20
5) Repeat my mantra of -- Push to 68. Totally forgot. Restarting July 20. Must say at least 5 times during day to notch day.
jolly -- You're very welcome for the new thread. Let's hope it helps us all. That was a GREAT save on the gym. You are really something!!
07-19-2007, 06:47 PM
HI guys good to hear that you are doing well, and really working at your challenges, even if it is tough sometimes.
A. No Food min 2h before bed(level 2) - 3 days met
B. Daily Excercise (level 3) - 2 days met, really did not want to do anything yesterday but then did the Gilad DVD for 30min and felt better about myself in general.
Still working on water thingon my 2nd bottle for the day so far.
Also I have another win for today. I parked further from the building (finally I planned to be at work 5 min earlier, so that I have the time to walk and not late), and I used the stairs both times: in the morning with my laptop and in the afternoon going down and up to the 3rd floor. I do this occasionally but today it was a planned effort.

07-20-2007, 09:25 PM
Hey all. just got back and am getting everything sorted out after my trip. blew the food, so will be restarting Monday. Had a good save on the workout though. The fitness center where i was staying wasn't that great, but I was inspired by the lake, so went and jogged! Was an awesome way to start the morning (and especially good considering the amount of fermented grain beverages I drank the night before!)
Take care all
07-22-2007, 07:41 AM
Here's where I stand at the end (almost) of Sunday, July 22. Had good days over the weekend but just didn't get around to writing things down yesterday. Did it today though.
1) No Alcohol -- OK! Day 4 completed!
2) Sugar Challenge -- Good. Day 3 completed
3) Become hungry! -- Day 4 completed!
4) Food log! Had to start on Sunday. Day 1 completed
5) Repeat my mantra of -- Push to 68. OK. Day 3 completed!
jolly, good job on the exercise and a hand :cp: for getting right back with it Monday!
07-22-2007, 05:28 PM
Well, it's Monday morning and I'm heading off to the gym...and dreading going into work. My weight remains high despite what I think is decent eating and lots of exercise. It's a real downer...really. :( Weeks without beer and now only minimal sweets, I thought I would see more progress. I can't understand why when I was in the States I was able to take off weight with such ease. There is all this fat hanging around my waist! I can't believe it! It shouldn't be there! :tantrum: Sigh...I really am depressed.
I am simplifying my challenges. Out with the mantra and the getting hungry one. Gonna just stick to basics and try to revaluate my eating.
So, here's where it stands at the start of Monday.
1) No Alcohol -- Day 4 completed
2) One Sugar a Day -- Day 3 completed
3) Food Log -- Day 1 completed
07-22-2007, 08:28 PM
NO ALCOHOL challenge~day 4 completed 0 pauses left
WALK 1 MILE EVERY DAY~day 2 completed 1 pause left
NO EATING AFTER 7pm~day 3 completed 1 pause left
07-22-2007, 09:31 PM
Hey all. Sorry, but I took a pause day yesterday on posting and working out. I was so tired from the work thing, I basically passed out on the couch before going to my niece's party. Got home late from that to find my copy of HP7 was here :cb: :cb: Despite staying up late to read that, I did go to the gym this morning (almost finished the book on the bike :) )
Have a good one all, and talk more tomorrow.
07-23-2007, 12:32 AM

Just wanted to drop by and say Hi  to everyone. Happy to see you all with your challenges going strong. I promise I will come back, probably soon, but don't have the time right at the moment.
Had a really stressful and rough time of it for a while and didn't do great on my food, but did keep going everyday with my exercise. I have just in the last couple of days gotten myself somewhat back on track with my eating.
I'm thinking of some challenges to hopefully start next week!
See you all soon!
07-23-2007, 01:37 PM
I'm popping in to say hello! I don't know what my challenges are going to be yet, but I have to say I really like Red's feel hungry one. I hate to say it, but It's pretty darned impossible to lose weight if you don't feel a little hunger now and then.
We are back from our vacation. It was nice to get away. We took lots of pictures and looking at them I realize that I REALLY need to lose some weight. I hate the way I look.Yuck, yuck, yuck. So hopefully something will click and I can get at least 10 pounds off. SOON.
07-23-2007, 07:17 PM
So glad to see dsjorney and Apple. Welcome back.
Weekend was ok, but I did not do much. I think I somewhat failed on my challenges. Actually the water one was the worst.
So I think I will just restart - today is day 1
A. No Food min 2h before bed(level 2) - 6 days met
A. No Food min 2h before bed(level 2) - 7 days met, will write in tomorrow (edited on Tuesday)
B. Daily Excercise (level 3) - 1 day met, worked out in the morning
C. 4 bottles of water (level 2) - 1 day met, I am almost done already.[1/2 bottle left - finished gulp, gulp, gulp] (edited on Tuesday)
By the way though I screwed up 2 challenges, this morning scale showed 4lb loss, but I only put down 2lp on a big grand ticker.
07-23-2007, 09:21 PM
Hi all. Glad to see everyone popping back in. If at first you don't succeed, and all that. . .
Well, day 10 - daily posting and following workout plan, both challenges met, with 2 pauses left for each. Following menu challenge will be restarted tomorrow :o

07-25-2007, 06:02 PM
Well, I haven't thought of any challenges. I have a fear of failure this time....But I really have to get it together too. Gulp.
Well, no beer, 2 pauses and South Beach Phase 1, 2 pauses. Thing is, with SB you aren't supposed to take ANY pauses, especially during the first phase, so I'm going to try to make it 2 weeks with no pause. Oh, this all sounds so hard, but last time I tried it I lost 8 pounds, so if I stick it out I will be one happy:dance:
Jolly, sorry to hear you are starting over. I'm looking forward to seeing what your new gig will be.
Red, you past that difficult 1 week mark! Keep it up!:cp:
Pink, you are so close with the exercise!!
Cbeta, you're doing great too!
07-25-2007, 07:00 PM
Hey all. Better day today.
Daily post, day 12 - 2 pauses left
Follow workout plan, day 11 - 1 pause left
Follow menu, day 1 - 3 pauses left
Take care all.
07-25-2007, 10:19 PM
Hola. I realized as today progressed that I can't quite do a South Beach plan, because it doesn't allow fruit for the first 2 weeks and I have a lot of fruit around. So I am modifing the diet to allow for occasional fruit. Don't think that will slow me down too much. I feel really crummy today, I don't know exactly why, but I hope it's not the diet. I think I'm just tired, but we'll see tomorrow!
NO ALCOHOL challenge~day 9 completed 0 pauses left
WALK 1 MILE EVERY DAY~day 6completed 0pause left
NO EATING AFTER 7pm~day 8 completed 1 pause left
07-26-2007, 03:54 PM
A. No Food min 2h b4 bed(level 2) - 8 days met
B. Daily Excercise to do (level 3) - 2 day met
C. 4 bottles of water (level 2) - 2 days met

A. No Food min 2h b4 bed(level 2) - 9 days met
B. Daily Excercise to do (level 3) - 3 day met
C. 4 bottles of water (level 2) - 3 day met
D. Food Log (level 3) - 2 days met
A. No Food min 2h b4 bed(level 2) - 10 days met
B. Daily Excercise to do (level 3) - 4 day met
C. 4 bottles of water (level 2) - 4 days met
D. Food Log (level 3) - 3 days met
But what I am most proud of is something I've not been able to do ever in my life - a morning workout! 3 times this week I did it, and I find it is kind of easier to fight the urge of not going, i.e. easier to fight excuses especially work and tired related ones. Basically there are only 2 reasons: don't want to wake up/get up and second one relates to being late to work.
I am thinking of adding some kind of other light excercise into routine 2-3 times a week, perhaps something on Tuesday and Thursdays.
Too early to tell yet.
Also I am planning to weight in tomorrow, interesting to see how my super good efforts will be reflected.
07-26-2007, 05:36 PM
1) No Alcohol -- Day 8 completed
2) One Sugar a Day -- Day 7 completed
3) Food Log -- Day 5 completed
Great going last night. I really wanted more sugar but had had my ration earlier in the day. I held out! Hurrah! Apple, it's over a week, yes, but actually I haven't had any alcohol since June 12! Is that amazing or what!?!?! :cb: Hope you're feeling better. Good to have you back! :goodvibes
CBETA, Debbs, jolly.... :bravo:
07-26-2007, 09:27 PM
Hey all. Met my challenges for the day.
Still kind of in a funk - PMS time. Have to love that. Plus a lot of emotion as the horse auction gets closer. Just trying to keep plugging on.
Take care all
07-27-2007, 02:37 AM
Well, good news and bad news. Good: No beer, Day 2 done! I went to visit a friend and her DH makes his own beer, yum. But he didn't have much to offer this time. I had a few sips to be polite, but it wasn't very good 'cause it was warmish and flat and I'm not counting those few sips as a :nono:!
The bad news is I had all sorts of carbs for dinner. (I was really good until dinner too. I felt the hunger) So I guess I'll start over tomorrow.
07-27-2007, 12:14 PM
Hi all. It is Friday!!!!

And then after work another 45 of weights and 45 min high pace walk!
A. No Food min 2h b4 bed(level 2) - 11 days met
B. Daily Excercise to do (level 3) - 5 days met[45 eliptical, 110 crunches, and then various weight lifting for 45min]

07-27-2007, 04:38 PM
1) No Alcohol -- Day 9 completed
2) One Sugar a Day -- Day 8 completed
3) Food Log -- Day 6 completed
Major saves yesterday! Went out with people from work last night, street party, one person's last day...BUT, I did NOT touch the beer. Had barley tea instead. And even stayed till late. I found as long as the conversation kept going it was no different not drinking than when I joined in drinking, and how! And it was clear to me that if the conversation didn't keep going, it was time for me to. The weight seems to be stabilizing again, but I'm not going to fret. Just keep at it. I also saved some sweets so as not to make it two sessions. That was amazing too. Sigh. Just gotta keep this up.
jolly -- You're DOING it, in the dumps or not. Good for you! :strong:
Apple -- Borderline food porn there... :nono: lol. Excellent save on the brew. Good for you! :cp:
CBETA -- And you too! :bravo: You are on a roll! :flow1:

Nice to see everyone out there making good decisions!
I decided that I really needed a small serving of:censored:so I have to restart. I think I will change the south beach challenge to a low calorie challenge instead. I have already modified the SB to accomodate fruit, so what the heck. I'll still be following it loosely. I'm going to shoot for 1200 cals. And yesterday will then qualify as day 1 done. And day 3 done for no beer.
07-28-2007, 10:02 PM
A. No Food min 2h b4 bed(level 2) - 11 days met
B. Daily Excercise to do (level 3) - 6 days met[45 eliptical, various weight lifting for 10min AND While my car was getting an oil change I walked 20min each way - or more like ran on the way back, before the place closes and my car gets locked till Monday morning. I did treat myself to a movie, I just walked to the theater and back!]
C. 4 bottles of water (level 2) - 6 days met
D. Food Log (level 3) - 5 days met
07-29-2007, 04:37 PM
1) No Alcohol -- Day 11 completed
2) One Sugar a Day -- Day 10 completed
3) Food Log -- Day 8 completed
Apple, good work on the no beer. Isn't 1,200 calories a bit low? Be careful you don't put your body into a metabolissm-lowering mode. Have you ever considered doing a one-high, one-low routine where you add say 500 calories to your daily ration on alternate days? I don't know. It may be more tolerable. I find that the one serving of sweets a day thing is finally working for me. I really look forward to my treat, whereas before I would eat more of other things to compensate for feeling deprived. However, earlier, I could NOT have done just one sweet. It would have set me off. Maybe some day I'll be able to do that with alcohol as well...
07-29-2007, 07:16 PM
So close and then dropped… yuck I’m still here… just unmotivated. Not sure what’s up just made one excuse after another and spent 4 days on my behind basically. Had friends visit so went out lots and had my share of drinks, night migraines have kept me from the gym, excuses excuses I know so here I am back at day one. Got a good workout in tonight to start me off.
One a good note it looks like you all are doing excellent on your challenges!!
2000 Calorie limit – Day 1 – Level 3 (3 left)
30 minutes of any kind of exercise – Day 1 – Level 3 (3 left)
One pop a day limit - Day 1 - Level 3 (3 left)
07-29-2007, 09:01 PM
I am doing ok..except for the fact that a friend of mine challenged me to a workout...I don't think I like challenges from others... I like my own, but I agreed.
Apple, I think I agree with red. I used to do 1500 for 3 days and then 1 day of 1800 and usually that extra 300 came from alcohol or sweets. That way I achieved both: confusing my body, and a small treat for myself.
07-30-2007, 01:34 AM
NO ALCOHOL challenge~day 13 completed 0 pauses left
WALK 1 MILE EVERY DAY~day 10 completed 0pause left

Glad to see everyone here and doing well! I'm going to try to get back in here regularly. For now though, I'm going to start small. One of my biggest problems lately has been dinner. My husband used to work swing shift which meant I didn't have to worry about dinner too often so I could eat a frozen meal or something. Now, he's working days and I'm back to making and of course eating dinner.
My challenge will be to start using portion control during dinner. Hopefully this will help me get back into getting in here to post!

Well, last night was tough, but I did well. We had a dinner that I had promised the kids and it was good, but I loaded up on salad and kept the other stuff to a normal sized portion. So...

No morning excercise, as I've lost my ability to sleep through the night, and felt really tired. I am even thinking that I might do very light exercise today and go to sleep early, my body is in stress probably and not able to relax.
Food, Log, and Water should be ok...Light exercise will be 45min in length at least and therefore I will consider as part of my daily.

I am starting to feel sluggish, and less motivated, or perhaps just plain hungry. Yesterday's lunch was sushi, and though I do not officially have a challenge for calories I watch what I eat. Soy sauce (regular variety) must have made me retain water, so I gained a pound. It is not official but I hate when I step in the wrong direction. :-(

Doing ok, feeling such a change at the gym, able to do more, longer, heavier weights.... feels good. On the other hand coping with just how emotional/bored eater I am... I always knew I was one but now that I'm tracking my food daily I can't imagine how many calories I must have taken in... any advice to curb emotional eating?

I've not slept normally for days, so yesterday I gave myself a rest, by going to bed right after having a small dinner which took place around 6:30pm. I still could not sleep so I laid in bed with closed eyes till 9. Then took a partial dose of sleep aid, which did not begin working till midnight! I stayed up with book and then finally fell asleep.
No exercise this morning as well, but I will get mine in tonight.

I lost my internet yesterday and after lots of fighting with my computer, I'm finally back online! Amazing how much I depend on the internet!
Red - Looks like you are doing great! You've got some tough challenges but are more than 2/3 of the way done. Awesome!
Cbeta - Wow, 1 1/2 hours at the gym! That's great!
Pink - If you ever figure out the emotional eating thing, please let us know! That's a tough one that I deal with all the time myself! Sometimes deep breathing helps my get under control, but I need to remember to do the breathing before doing the eating! That's the hard part for me.

djstorey, thank you.
I do find that this also allows me to limit the amount of boredom in my day, because no food 1.5 hours prior to, and 2-3 hours after, then with the other challenge about 2hrs before bad - no food, on days when I work out in the evening my last meal is around 5-6pm...which is very good, because it is fully processed by the time I go to sleep.
Everyone seems like we are on a roll here....Which is GREAT. Congrats and have a Wonderfull Weekend.

Got a great workout in tonight, just under three hours spent at the gym... it'll be closed all next week due to yearly maintence so I'll be out for a while... not that today will make up for it... hahaha I wish!! But this is where I usually get in trouble when I dont have to leave to go to workout, always say I will then never do but I'm going to go through and try out some of my old tapes tomorrow.
Looks like everyone is doing prety well in here!! Keep up the good work ladies!
Welcome CeeJay!! Looks like we have a few of the same challenges, good luck!!
08-04-2007, 02:54 AM
Greetings! I dropped out once again, but I am happy to report that I'm working on a stealth challenge and I have completed day 5! Can you guess what it is? Yup, that no beer challenge again.
My kids were sick last week end so that kind of set me off track. Of course they couldn't all 3 have it over with in one day, it was dragged out over 4 days. Bleh. At least I didn't catch it.:barf:
I have to agree that 1200 is probably pretty low, but my intention was just to get a jump start and then become more reasonable after my pants fit a bit better, which creates more optimism which keeps the momentum going etc etc. Anyway, much more than 1500 cals and I won't lose anything, unless my exercise program gets up some steam, which has been really hard lately. And I don't see that changing all that much until the kids start school again. Well, I have to try. I've been totally stagnant in that dept. I should at least be walking. Maybe I'll start a walking challenge, but let me sleep on it.
Everyone looks like they are doing well! Look at Debbs, quietly approaching 21! And Red!:cp:

1) No Alcohol -- Day 17 completed
2) One Sugar a Day -- Day 15 completed -- one pause taken
3) Food Log -- Day 14 completed
Well, I'm moving along, but feel I'm losing momentum/interest/persistence in everything. My clothes don't feel any looser, in fact they feel the same or even tighter. It could be the heat and sweating so much but I don't think so. Sigh. I can't believe I have had no alcohol, none, zilch, zero!!! since June 12. It's my birthday Wednesday though and I'm thinking of celebrating with at least some champagne and got a drinking date the next day...hmmm....it's kind of cool going total teetotaler. I like it. Never have to worry about feeling cruddy the next day and the rolls around my waist (area) are not so bad at all. In fact, I think there is a lot of loose skin that is going to take some time to shrink, if it ever does.... :(
Apple -- Glad to have your back! Hurrah! :spin: I'm sorry to hear about your kids and I hope you do truly miss out on getting sick. I very much understand how you feel about going all out to lose enough to get the momentum rolling. It really does help. Just don't overdo it for long. Do you have any exercise equipment you could use at home? Or some videos. I know it's boring but if you're stuck at home maybe you could still get exercise in. Just a thought.
Pink -- Good work! :cp: Too bad about the gym being closed. A whole week too. Mine is closed Monday, but only for a day....I'm going to try to get there tomorrow. Took a day off today, but did ride my horse and I don't know if I got that much exercise, but she sure did....sweat running off her legs. Poor thing.
ceejay -- Welcome!! :welcome3: Of course you're welcome to join us. Looks like some pretty tough challenges you got there, nothing I'd call "simple!" Best of luck! :goodluck:
CBETA -- You are really, really doing well! I'm so proud of you! :bravo:
Debbs -- We never hear much from you. Tell us more! :listen: You're rivaling me for the no booze challenge! Nonalcohol cheers!
dj -- Good to see you back!! :spin: Thanks for the praise! Good luck with your new challenge!

Day 4 & 5 - portion control during dinner - good
Got busy yesterday and never had a moment to post. My son decided it was time to paint our pantry when he saw me cleaning it and I went along with it. Of course that means that all our food is now in grocery bags in the laundry room until we can put the shelves back up. Then the same son reminded me that I gave him permission to paint his room. Ended up buying paint after dinner last night and he's been working on his room since. It will be interesting to see what it looks like when it's done. He's painting the walls red and the trim black!
:welcome: ceejay! Glad to have you here.
Red - You're doing so well, don't give up now! Sometimes it takes longer than we would like to see results. Besides, you're doing great things for your health!
Apple - Hope to see you back soon with new challenges! I agree with Red, get some videos if nothing else works for you for now. I actually like doing my videos. I have quite a collection going and do one everyday. You just have to find what you like to do.
Hi to everyone else! Sunday is the only day I make breakfast each week and the husband thinks I should get it going!

I'm still hanging in there...had an amazing day of exercise yesterday, first riding in tropical heat, then to the gym for cycling and weights. I was pushed by the fact that the gym is closed today for summer vacation and I really wanted to get a workout in. I ate too much yesterday, but at least I got the exercise in. The food log is really making me face reality, the reality of my eating and exercise habits. I'm looking more at the nutrition than the calories, but I think the calorie control will become a part of things when I'm eating really well and not wasting precious calories on things like beer. I feel like I have left an old chapter of ME behind and am starting a new one, no longer a me that wants to go out drinking to socialize but one who finds more pleasure in discipline and achievement. Wow, sounds pretty austere... ;)
dj -- I had to laugh hearing about your son's choice of colors for his room. It brings back adolescence. I would never have been allowed to do my room in my choice of colors, but I do remember thinking black walls and black lights and psychedelic posters were the way to go.
Good work on your portion control.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm thinking along the same lines, the health part IS the most important thing, though I too dream of size 4s and 6s. Ah, but to be there and super healthy...now THAT would be an accomplishment to be proud of. Anyone (I'm surrounded by skinny people here) seems like she can be tiny, but strong and healthy and bursting with energy, now that's rare! :sunny:
Debbs, ceejay, Pink, good work! :cp:
08-05-2007, 08:04 PM

Below is my report. For the life of me I don't know why I procrastinated the entire day, in a way I feel sorry for myself.
Must change that tomorrow, I want to finish all challenges from my first try!
In other news, though I ate reasonable on calories, my proportion of fat/carbs/proteins suffered from stupid things like pine nuts... but live and learn, next time will be better. I still made some pretty good choices I am proud of.

Debbs, Red - lucky you guys I never had the nerv to say that I want my room a different color. Not necessarily red, but something more pleasant than all of that green ...for the life me I don't know why she chooses it so often. Not that I hated it...Besides your son is brave, I would never think I am capable of painting my own room....what if I screw something up!
Apple glad to see you are back and working even though in stealth mode. Hope your kids have made full recovery.
Red you are on a roll, almost done with your challenges. Congrats on comming up B-Day!
ceejay, welcome to our thread. It is an excellent one to help start forming new habits
Jollygirl, where are you, have not heard from you in a few days.

Day 6 & 7 - portion control during dinner - good
Just a quick one again today. Still helping my son to paint his room red. I'm only helping him with the picky work to make sure it's done right. I told him the rest is his doing, but it sure is taking a long time! Looks like 3 coats to cover correctly and he just finished the 2nd.
Happy Birthday Red!!!!
Have a great day!

#1 I am going to excercise 30 minutes EVERYDAY for a minimum of 30 minutes. This is a going to be tough but I really thinki I can do it.
#2 I am going to keep a food log. It helps me be accountable for what is and isn't going in my mouth. I need to start taking responsibility for the things that go in my mouth.

Well, my son and I finally finished the worst of the painting of his room. Now, we're just working on touch ups and the trim. I actually like the red walls, but my husband hates it! The only thing I'm not crazy about is the black trim, although it really doesn't look bad, I, would probably go for an ivory color myself, but I'm not a 14 year old boy ;).
Welcome back Mscat! Good luck with your challenge!
Congrats Debbs on the no alcohol! That's a tough one!
:welcome3: AmbieP. Hope to see you around a lot!

1) No Alcohol -- Day 20 completed -- 2 pauses taken
2) One Sugar a Day -- Day 19 completed -- 2 pauses taken
3) Food Log -- Day 19 completed
Well, I'm almost finished and I'm ready to jump in and start all over again. I feel like starting over right now but will roll out the days to the final 21. I had two alcohol days, one just a tiny bit and last night, a lot. I must say I don't like it anymore, the drinking, the talk. I think these past two months have shown me a better way. Let's see where it takes me.
dj -- What can I say, you're doing so well on your challenge, rolling along being moderate. I wish I could say the same about myself. I'm in a real hate-myself mood, no doubt due to last night's drinking and my never knowing when to stop...sigh. I'm glad your painting work is done. Yes, ivory and red wouldn't be bad. I applaud your allowing your son to do his own thing. I wish I had had parents like you.
mscat -- I hadn't seen that you were indeed joining us again. Great!!! :spin: You've jumped in with a tough challenge. Best of luck and hope to see lots of you!
Debbs -- Congratulations on finishing your no-alcohol challenge! Well done!! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:
ambie -- Welcome aboard! :welcome:

Yep ladies - I did it again - Day 3 of workout - did a 25 minute treadmill workout this a.m. Also Day 2 of no white foods! Down to 248 on the scale but I am not changing my slider until the begin of the week.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone and Red - it's good to be with you again.

Day 9 - portion control during dinner - good - 2 pauses left
Red - Hope you're feeling better today and that you made your 21 days! Yeah, you may have had a couple of bad days, but all in all you've done well. By the way, my parents would have never let me paint my room red & black either. When my first 2 kids were young, I worked with a women who had a saying that I have tried to adopt. It's "chose your battles wisely", and when it comes to parenting, I truely believe in it and try to follow it. My first instinct when my son told me his color choices were to tell him he was crazy and to forget about it, but after thinking about it, I decided it was only paint and was relatively easy to be rid of it, so why make an issue of it. Believe me, he's 14 and we have many other issues that matter much more!

Had a rough day yesterday, I don't know why I let myself overdo it like that! THe most frustrating thing is that I've been finally losing the weight I had put on the last few months. Oh well, back to it today.
Have a good day all!

Good morning, people.
I have finished all three challenges....sigh. I don't feel great about it. I don't see the results....but, I'm not letting that stop me. Not all is visible, is it?
I'm going to be back with the new challenges, which may be continuations of the old. See you soon.

Back to the gym today... back to starting over... I'll post some challenges tonight
08-14-2007, 05:20 PM
Hey all, I'm afraid I just can't find the oomph to get in here. It seems like I've spent all my oomph trying to life others off the floor and have no more left for me. :( Not good. And I'm totally disgusted with myself and the fact that I seem to be yet AGAIN slipping into old ways. OK, I'm not drinking but the loss of socializing and a bit of throw-my-cares-to-the-wind time that that gave me has NOT been replaced with anything, not even a leaner body. What the heck? Sigh. Let me try to find myself here again and I'll be back...
dj, keep at it is all I can say...while hoping I can find my own mojo.
Pink, atta girl!
08-15-2007, 04:04 PM
Day 13 - portion control during dinner - good - 1 pause left
Red - Hope to see you back soon! You'll get there, I know you will. Even if it's 2 steps forward, 1 step back, it's progress. When I first started to lose weight it was only after realizing that it didn't matter how long it took me, that as long as I was making positive changes, I was doing the right thing. (Not to say I don't forget that myself at times!) Never give up!
Glad to see you back Pink!

Kinda in a bit of a slum... two weeks till my life goes crazy with school and work and everything again. Very worried I'll slip into my late night studying/snacking and fast food on the run with little gym time routine again. I seem to do good the first few weeks of school and stay on track but every year fall off... ahem the reason for the freshman 15, sophomore 15 and junior 10!!! AHHHH I need to stay straight this time which mean food logging and 3FC! They both by far are my biggest motivaters! I want this sooo bad.

Hello everyone. I am back from my last trip for a while, so maybe I can finally settle down and actually complete a challenge. Just have to think of one.
Red, great job finishing your challenges and hopefully you'll be back soon!
Hey DJ, thanks for holding down the fort.
I'll think up a challenge or 2 tonight and visit again tomorrow!
I am going to Hawaii in January so I have a serious deadline!!! A pound a week should do it, I think. Yikes.
08-19-2007, 03:33 PM
Kickin some butt at the gym finally, its getting easier and I stay longer (2.5 hours yesterday, 2 hours today!). Trying to keep it in high gear all week as I know once school/work/studying/commitments starts next week its going to be hard but I’m going to try really really hard to stay on track this time, it is time for a real change.
30 minutes of exercise a day (yup that one again:-)) ~ Day 6 (3 pauses left)
Two bottles of water a day ~ Day 6 (3 pauses left)
Limit of 1800 calories a day ~ Day 5 (3 pauses left)

Ok, didn't mean to disappear like I did. First, I got a new computer (yay!), which I had to set up and transfer all my files. Then we went camping for the first and probably last time this year. Because of all that, my one challenge went out the window.
I am starting new challenges as of tomorrow. Yeah, I could have started today, but, I'm tired and still trying to catch up on "after camping" chores. Anyway, new challenges....
Portion control during dinner - level 3
A minimum of 64 ounces water - level 3
Still keeping it rather easy, but they are both something I need to do.
08-20-2007, 04:57 PM
The end of summer is always a tough transitional time. We have to stick together and get over the adjustment and into our new routines!!!
Great job at the gym, pink, I wish I had that much spare time to exercise...
Dj, hope you had fun camping and good luck on your new challenges.
I'm still not sure about new challenges for my self. One will be exercise. I went to the gym yesterday, so today will be day 2, if I make it there. Thing is I really have to get cardio going so the challenge will be go to the gym OR get 30 min of cardio by jogging, brisk walking or exercise video.
08-20-2007, 07:53 PM
Hey ladies took a pause day on all accounts, had to do lots of driving today and EVERYTHING seemed to get on my nerves... so I'm going to take my irritated self to bed instead of the gym tonight :-( Better luck and attitude tomorrow I hope!
Welcome back DJ!
Thanks Apple!! This will be my last week off till things go crazy I wish I had the time to go to the gym so much all year but life happens and I hope to make enough time to go an hour 4 times a week once everything gets going again:-(... haha some how I like to believe all this work now will make up for later ;-)
08-21-2007, 11:51 PM
Got back in the gym today and am back on track... didn't make the healthiest food choices but I did stay under my calories.
Come back ladies!!! Miss you all, hope all is well!!

Hi. I need to be back, and as I begin each day I sayd today is the day. But then life happens.
I screwed up my left shoulder and now it hurts badly, i could not even undo my bra tonight.
Eating has been so-so, I've not been to the gym much, but I've not gained.
I will try to recommit tomorrow, unless TOM pain kills me.
08-22-2007, 11:33 AM
Day 1 - Portion control during dinner - good - level 3
Day 1 - A minimum of 64 ounces water - good- level 3
Almost didn't make it on the water, but managed to fit it in at the end of the day. I really need to drink more! My skin is so dry and by evening, I'm very thirsty from not drinking much during the day.
Cbeta - Hope that shoulder gets to feeling better and that you can join us for some challenges!
Pink - Glad to hear you're back on track! Keep up the good work.
08-22-2007, 01:14 PM
I wasn't able to exercise on Monday. I can't decide if I' should restart or not. I hate restarting, I think I'll try to keep itgoing. I have 1 pause left, Day 2 done. My gym is going to be closed for 4 days, labor day week-end. I don't mind too much, it will give me an opportunity to work harder on the cardio.
Hey pink, good to see you are at that critical 1 week point. There is no turning back now, and you have the momentum to get through that crazy bit you have coming up!
Welcome back CBETA, hope your shoulder is OK and I'm looking forward to hearing about some new challenges!
Hi DJ! You're out of the starting Gate! Go!Go!
08-22-2007, 08:41 PM
Ticked off all my challenges but it was just a hot sticky yucky day… went to the gym and gave up after 45 minutes… just wasn’t in me tonight… they are closed tomorrow (just my luck!!!) but I’m going to use my weights and ball at home hopefully.
30 minutes of exercise a day (yup that one again:-)) ~ Day 8 (2 pauses left)
Two bottles of water a day ~ Day 8 (2 pauses left)

Cbeta – I hope your shoulder is getting better!
DJ – Great start and new challenges!
Apple – Good luck!!
08-23-2007, 09:50 PM
Heh all, things have been crazy. I have no time for myself. It's horrible. AND, I've been stress eating, pigging out on junk food. Why!?!?!?!? I hate this. I am going to try to get back on track soon. Please hold the fort! Thanks.
08-24-2007, 02:32 AM
Quick check in! Day 3 & 4 done!

08-26-2007, 08:58 PM
Hi all! I am getting back to work, on myself, my eating and exercise. Two weeks of gluttony and two days of alcohol submersion are behind me... ;) and I am ready yet again to crack the whip. I'll be back soon with the details!
08-26-2007, 11:02 PM
Day 4 - Portion control during dinner - good - level 3
Day 4 - A minimum of 64 ounces water - good- level 3
Another quick check in. Looking forward to having you back Red!
08-28-2007, 03:10 AM
Hey where is everybody? I have to restart, this week has just been too crazy. It will get easier when my life settles into routine again.
Today I have had little will power. That usually means TOM is coming, but it's too early. Probably stress.
Hey DJ, thanks for keeping us going!
08-30-2007, 10:04 AM
Hi dj, Apple!
I'm sorry I didn't get started...really intended to.... :^: but I haven't forgotten. I just am too harried by everything right now. Please go on without me and I'll be back when I can, and it won't be that long. I promise!
08-30-2007, 12:59 PM
I guess I'm just here to keep the thread alive. I haven't restared my challenge, things are just too crazy. I'm going to wait until after the long week-end and then I'll have no excuse. But I'll pop in to see how everyone is doing.
Hope you're all OK!
08-30-2007, 02:56 PM
Hi Apple & Red! Sorry I went AWOL again. Things have been crazy here too. I am going to have to restart my challenges as I have no idea what my status is anymore! Had a couple of bad days, couple of good..... Anyway, today will be day 1 of my same challenges.
Have a good one!
08-31-2007, 06:34 PM
Day 1 - Portion control during dinner - good - level 3
Day 1 - A minimum of 64 ounces water - good- level 3
Ok, back on things once again. Things have been so busy now that school has started again. Things probably won't calm down until football is over, of course, something else will probably take it's place!
Hope everyone is doing ok!
08-31-2007, 10:25 PM
Hey Ladies! Sorry I’m still here checking in now and then… fell off the wagon again… seems to be a recurring event around days 7-10… any who it was quite the emotional week… I need to finally put myself and my health as a priority in life and really stick to it… I’ll be back soon with challenges!
Keep up the good work! Hope to see some of you join back in soon too!
09-01-2007, 12:55 AM
Good to see you back dj. Pink, I'm coming back soon too. Apple, let's both start up real soon!! :dancer:

09-02-2007, 11:16 PM
Whoa Red!! How are you going to keep track of all that stuff!!!? Shoot, that's probably what I need to do too. Details.
My new challenges, which start tomorrow are:
1: Stick to a reasonable diet
2: 30 min daily exercise
Now that its Sept I have to start the pound a week deal in order to lose 12 or so pounds by January.(Hawaii trip!) Actually, I'd really like to lose 20, but 12 will be great.
Gosh, my belly just keeps expanding. I almost look pregnant. And none of my clothes fit. it's a bad scene. Time to get serious.
09-03-2007, 06:39 AM

I put pauses in but I'm going to try not to take them. They're just there as a buffer zone.
Apple -- You know, because you said that... "how are you going to keep track of all that?"... I made up a chart on the computer with all the columns for all the challenges and then rows for the dates and I printed it out and am going to carry it with me with my food journal. You bet!
It's good to see you back! Best of luck! :goodluck: Now all we need are some others to keep us company. You'll get rid of that belly in no time, Apple. Don't give up!!!! :nono:
09-03-2007, 12:09 PM
Well, back again! I'm starting over once again too. I have had a house full of sick people here, then, of course, I had to catch it too. I will start fresh challenges tomorrow as I still don't feel great.
Red - WOW! What a list of challenges! I do agree with Apple though, I should do the same and get with it again!
Apple - Hawaii is a great motivator! I lost a good portion of my weight before a trip to Hawaii! Wish I could do that again!
Hope to see you back soon Pink!
09-03-2007, 09:54 PM
Well, I don't know what's up with the scale, but I broke through 70 kg for the first time in months. I really don't understand it because I'd been up about 5 lbs, then just started losing what must have been a lot of bloat. Well, I'm not going to complain too much. Maybe the extra muscle I put on is helping me burn calories.
I have been doing well for the past few days with all my new challenges and a new mindset. Well, it's not new, it's more like I finally just took to heart what it means to do the things I want to do and, more importantly, NOT do the things that lead me to feel awful about myself. For the past few weeks I'd been snacking on junk and other unmentionables at work. I'd go home and have little sugar binges under way and again at home. I was starting to go out for pints with the coworkers again. And, oddly enough, I was NOT feeling good about myself. Ah, duh?!?! Before, when I was really watching things AND watching the belly disappear, no matter what kind of stress life threw me, I could always allow my thoughts to settle on my feeling proud of myself for putting in the effort. Without that, there was nowhere nice for my thoughts to go. So, I started making that place for myself again. Let's see if I can stick with it. ;)
dj -- Good to see you! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I am the same, chest congested, can't breathe at night. Had to stay home from the horse today, or stay home from work, and we have big things going on today, so I had to let that take priority. Ughh!! Looking forward to seeing your new challenges. Take care!
09-03-2007, 11:21 PM
OHHHhhh I am livid right now!!!:club::rollpin:
I just received an e-mail from my gym. They have closed!!! I am sad, because i liked the owner and all, but I paid in full for a year and she made no mention of refunding anyone. I guess a lot of people go month to month and she has stopped those charges, but i'd better get my money back or:club:
There's a good: I toppped out the weights. I can lift the most possible on their machines, so it may have been time to move on.
There's a bad: She let me bring my 3 yr. old. He could watch movies while I worked out. I don't think I'll be able to find that anywhere else.
Even though I haven't lost any weight by going there, I have built up quite a bit of muscle and I don't want to lose it. Under all the flab, there's some bulk!:strong:
Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions and there is a check in the mail, but she left no phone #, only an e-mail. GRRRRRRR
09-04-2007, 07:53 AM
Ouch!! Apple, I would prepare for the worst. My father once joined a gym and took out a lifetime membership, only to have them close down and skip town, NO refunds! Can you imagine how angry he was?
I would discuss things with your gym owner if you can find her, but chances are the place went bankrupt and it has no money for refunds. It's probably in the small print!

Days like this are uncanny. I shouldn't have been able to do so well, but I did, I did!!! When I wrote everything down in my journal, it was like...no way!!! there's gotta be more to it than that...but there WASN'T!!!
Hurrah for me! :bravo:
09-04-2007, 10:05 AM
Ok, I'm feeling well enough to get going on challenges again!
Practice portion control at dinner - level 3
Exercise everyday - level 3
Minimum of 64 oz water - level 3
Apple - Sure hope you can get a refund! I'd be furious too! Good job on all that new muscle though! It's nice to know we are firm under that extra padding. ;)
Red - Congrats on the scale! Having that muscle burn those calories sure is nice! Sometimes that's been the only thing keeping me from gaining I think. Hope your feeling better!
Have a great day!
09-04-2007, 05:32 PM
Hello. I am still steaming about the gym. I'm not so sure that I'll join another one. There is one I might check out. They usually have one month free to try it, so I might. My little one is in preschool now (makes me sad):( so I have a tiny bit of time to myself. I was planning to use that time for jogging, since I'm not fond of jogging with the stroller. Oh I don't know!!
I am adding no beer to my challenges, and today is day one for everything. start fresh. I weighed in this morning and I'm still 160, so the damage isn't as bad as I thought.
Great job with your list of STUFF, Red. It's great to have you so excited. Go for it babe!
09-04-2007, 09:16 PM
Apple -- DO join another gym! Don't let this blow knock you down for the count! :nono: You've got the right attitude. Get back in the ring!! And, adding no beer to your challenges will surely make you a winner. I can't believe how the belly fat came off when I went off the booze for two months and how, after just a few nights out again, it came back. There is something about alcohol that just settles around the middle. If you cut it out, you will see the difference! And, thanks for the encouragement!
Here's a little poem for you. Fight!!!
I been scared and battered.
My hopes the wind done scattered.
Snow has friz me,
Sun has baked me,
Looks like between 'em they done
Tried to make me
Stop laughin', stop lovin', stop livin'--
But I don't care!
I'm still here!
(Still Here, by Langston Hughes)
dj -- Glad to hear you're feeling better. Best of luck on your new challenges!! :goodluck:

Well, I guess I will call it a pause on the exercise because I couldn't do anything major, just walking. Everything else was good! And it was a h@ll of a day. :( I don't need the extra coffee because the adrenalin is flowing all day long from all the major aggravation at work. It's not good. It's not healthy, but I'll try to carry on a bit longer...
Where are you all? :listen:
09-06-2007, 12:51 AM
Hey hey, I'm here. I can't seem to get off the ground here. Well, I took a walk, so that would be day 1 exercise.
There is another women's gym in town, so I hope to check it out soon. I don't think I'll be able to go more than twice a week, but that will at least keep me from losing the muscle I've built up.
Hi Red, thanks for the poetry. Hey, day 5, you're off to a good start!
09-06-2007, 10:39 AM
Day 1 & 2 - good - Practice portion control at dinner - level 3
Day 1 & 2 - good - Exercise everyday - level 3
Day 1 & 2 - good - Minimum of 64 oz water - level 3
Off and running!
Good job Red!
And Apple, whatever you do, keep that muscle!
Gotta run! Busy day ahead.
09-07-2007, 04:36 PM
Day 2 exercise is done. I've only been walking though. Better than nothing but probably not enough. TOM has arrived, which explains why I've had a difficult time combating cravings. Things (hormones) will settle down and next week will be better. I'm already a week behind for my goal of 1 pound a week. Grrr. Must apply myself.....
09-07-2007, 04:48 PM
Hi all, im new to this forum.
I have lost 30lb so far this year.
My 21 day goals are:-
1. Only 1 cup of tea of coffee a day (currently drinking loads)
2. No chocolate
3. Goto the gym mon,wed,fri
4. Stick to 1300 calories a day (keep a food diary)
5. Walk for at least 20 mins briskly when not a gym day
I will check in every day, make sure i am sticking to these.

Day 3 - pause - Practice portion control at dinner - 2 pauses left
Day 3 - good - Exercise everyday - level 3
Day 3 - good - Minimum of 64 oz water - level 3
Had a really bad food day yesterday. Not sure why, but I just wanted to eat and eat! The good news is that I was so mad at myself that I am doing great today. Hopefully I got it out of my system for a while.
:welcome: Katie! Congrats on the 30 pounds! That's great! Glad to have you join us here. By the way, I know different things work for different people, but your calorie limit is really low. I know when I was heavier, I was losing weight rather quickly on 1600-1800 calories a day. I would just hate to see you get stuck on a plateau and have to reduce your calories even further to keep the weight coming off.
Hi Apple! Hi Red! Gotta run.
09-08-2007, 04:41 AM
Hi, Thanks for the welcome.
I will try and up my calories a little. see how i get on. Your right i dont want to get to the stage where i have to lower the calories even lower. I'll just break and all my hard work will be for nothing.

Ok, it's looking iffy on a couple of them....but I'll carry on. :^:
katielou -- Welcome! :welcome3: It's nice to have you join us and best of luck on your challenges! By the way, a word of warning. If you are drinking loads of coffee and tea then you are going to be in for some severe withdrawal symptoms if you cut back so drastically. The trick is to wean yourself off the caffeine gradually by keeping the feed of caffeine constant but lessening it over time. Even if you get past the initial headaches, the severe cutback is likely to cause lethargy and depression until your embattled adrenal glands learn to work on their own again. I know! I've been there! and trying to get there again...well, to where I was when I went off megadoses for a year. Oh yes, and Katielou, congratulations on the 30 lb loss! That's magnificent!!! :bravo:
dj -- Maybe the changing seasons? In any case, you're through Day 3. Good going! :cp:
Apple -- I hope you're feeling better. I was in the same boat, ultra pigouts! But, the last two days I've been just soooo depressed, it's not funny. At least you're walking! It IS better than nothing so don't knock it too much!
09-09-2007, 10:05 AM

Day 4 - good - Exercise everyday - level 3
Day 5 - pause - Exercise everyday - 2 pauses left

Had to take a pause on the exercise yesterday. Had a busy day and took the kids to the fair. Got in a lot of walking, but I'm not going to count that as my exercise.
Red - A couple of your challenges may look iffy, but you're doing so well with so many of them! Just keep looking at the progress you're making.
Katie - Hope it's going well!
Hope everyones weekend is going well!
09-11-2007, 09:02 AM
Hey all. :( I was doing real well and then....I don't know, just started sabotaging myself. Though I'm still good on a lot of the challenges, I'm just going to start over clean, clear slate, tomorrow, Wednesday...wish me luck. :^:

Hi Red! Sorry to hear you had a rough time. Just get yourself back in here and back to it! You can do this!
Apple, Katie, where are you?
09-11-2007, 06:55 PM
Hello. Well, I'm with you Red, I lost the challenge. I was actually hoping that as I was loading the page that there would be a "don't post here" warning and a new thread had started up and I could start fresh. I'm starting it up again anyway. I will seriously be dieting tomorrow!! I exercised today. I went to another women's gym today and it will do. It actually has quite a few things about it that are better than my old one. The major draw back is that I can't bring my son, so I can't go as often. But they have a punch card system, so I don't feel giulty about not being able to go as often as I'd like. Right now I'll only be able to go twice a week. Another draw back is that the weight machines are different and I don't know how to use them. I ended up signing up for a session with a personal trainer which is $$ but it will be interesting anyway. I don't want to bore you with the details, but i'm back in the Gym!!
09-12-2007, 09:35 PM
Day 7- good - Practice portion control at dinner - 2 pauses left
Day 7 - good - Exercise everyday - 2 pauses left
Day 8 - good - Minimum of 64 oz water - level 3
Just a quick one to catch up!

Exercise Day 2, 2 pauses left
Diet, Day one, 2 pauses left
Ok, I'm out of the starting gate.
Hi DJ, you have the first week down! There's no turning back!!
09-13-2007, 11:23 AM
Hello I am new and want to try the 21 day challenge. I have the hardest time caring about how I look and today I was thinking that maybe one of the first steps in the weightloss process that I need to do is to start making myself look good whether I am heavy or not. So I would like to challenge myself to 1) do my hair everyday 2) put on a little make-up and 3) put on something decent whether I am going out or not! So my challenge starts tomorrow Friday Sept 14th. Well I should do a few things before I have to go to bed so hope you ladies have a wonderful day!
09-14-2007, 01:04 PM
Exercise Day 3 done, 2 pauses left
Diet....? I stayed under my calorie goal, but I had some food porn. I think I'll just restart.
I weighed myself this morning and I'm 1 pound down! I know it could just be regular fluxuation, but it made my happy. Back on schedule and back in the 150's.
Welcome to our thread, Utah! Great idea to keep yourself looking good!
09-14-2007, 09:25 PM
Day 8- good - Practice portion control at dinner - 2 pauses left
Day 8 - good - Exercise everyday - 2 pauses left
Day 9 - good - Minimum of 64 oz water - level 3
Well, I am going to try to keep these challenges, but today is a bust and tomorrow might go that way too. My husband owns and runs a dump truck and hires out for whoever needs him. Usually the jobs last a day or two, sometimes even 3 or 4 days. Today, he got a call from a company he's worked for a few times to do a job in Yellowstone for 2-4 weeks and had less than 24 hours notice to get there! Needless to say, I've been running all day long trying to get him and the camp trailer ready to go. Tomorrow we have to get him, the dump truck, the pickup and the camp trailer all into the park first thing in the morning! Of course I need my car too since I need to get home. It's going to take a caravan to get him there and me back home again!
Anyway, yes, Yellowstone will be fun. It's been a while since we've been there even though we live nearby. Unfortunately though, we have to come back home tomorrow night since my son has to work on Sunday morning. Hopefully since my husband will be there for a while we'll get to visit a couple of times before the job is done.
:welcome3: Utahgirl! Glad to have you here!
Apple - Congrats on seeing the 150's again! Even if it's a fluxuation, it's one in the right direction!
I'll catch up with you all in a couple of days!

Shy Moment -- There is no phase one. You just start with a challenge, that's all. It's very simple. Be sure to read the first post in this thread for an explanation of how things work. Just pick something you want to do for 21 days and do it every day! It's simple. If you forget to do it or can't just start counting over from one. That's the simple idea. We are now allowing "pause days," which means if you don't do your challenge thing that day you can take a pause and resume counting from the next day. But you don't have to take pauses at all. You can do it the original way..count...mess up...restart...count or just count straight through to 21! You can do it! And welcome!! :welcome1:

Utahgirl -- And a big welcome to you too!! :welcome2: I LOVE your challenge. It is simply wonderful. You have a great attitude. Is that you in the picture in your signature? If so, you are a very pretty girl. Make the most of those great looks! Good luck on your challenge! :goodluck:

Thanks, sat and thought about this last night and this morning. I think this sounds great. Will help keep me on task. I put 5 things on a list for myself 3 of them I am already doing but I want to make sure I do them everyday. The other 2 things on the list are kicking things up a peg, which is something it is time to do.
I am the one who goes forward or back wards on this journey I am making. I can't do it for anyone else. I have to do it for myself. I can blame no one when I don't reach my goals and no one can take the credit when I do reach them. This is about me and for me. This is not about anyone else or for anyone else. God is the only one that is with me every second of the day.

Hey Shy, you are right, you are the one in control. But don't forget, you are not alone! We are here to support you and we know you can find something with in yourself to get it done! Lets go!!
I wasn't really on a diet yesterday, week-ends are going to be hard. But I did get the exercise in, which is alse hard on week-ends. So that was day 4 I think. I really didn't want to pause so early, or start over. That's what motivated me. Yeah!
Hello to Red, DJ, Shy and Utah! Hope you are all having a nice week end!
09-16-2007, 05:02 PM
Day 9 & 10 - good - Practice portion control at dinner - 2 pauses left
Day 9 - pause - Exercise everyday - 2 pauses left
Day 9 - good - Exercise everyday - 1 pause left
Day 10 - good - Minimum of 64 oz water - level 3
Day 11 - pause - Minimum of 64 oz water - 2 pauses left
Well I guess I'll keep going with these challenges. I didn't do as badly as I thought I might. While in Yellowstone yesterday we hiked a lot! I will count that as my exercise and because we hiked so much I managed to drink lots of water. Also managed to make a decent choice for dinner even though we had to eat out.
Yellowstone was so much fun. I'd been there before but not for a few years. We even saw a grizzley bear which was so cool! It was from a distance but the video camera was able to zoom in on it.
Apple - I know what you mean about the weekends being hard! They're my worst!
09-17-2007, 12:51 PM
Did my walking video
Didn't have the one can of pop I allow myself a day
Didn't have the one snack I allow myself a day
Have eaten at least 3 times today.
Wrote everything down in my daily log
Oh please enjoy yourself. Haven't been to Yellowstone in years. The place is so beautiful. Enjoy your walks for me too, I would love to be there.
You are so right. This site is so great. So many people here encouraging each other. Can't do a lot of exercises right now until this lung thing clears us. Right now just walking up a flight of stairs makes me start to cough up a lung. Am going to start my walking if I feel better later today.

Day 11 - good - Practice portion control at dinner - 2 pauses left
Day 10 - pause - Exercise everyday - 0 pause left
Day 11 - good - Minimum of 64 oz water - 2 pauses left
Well I took my last pause on the exercise. I was so tired yesterday after our Yellowstone trip the day before. I'll try to keep that challenge going but it's back to Yellowstone on friday to bring my husband some supplies (and of course enjoy the park!) so it's going to be another tough one.
Shy - Yep, Yellowstone is very pretty. That was only me second time being there myself. Funny thing is that we live only about 2 hours away and we never go! I'm looking forward to going back up again this weekend though and doing more hiking.
Hope you're feeling better!
Hi Apple & Red! Hope all is well.

Hello. I need to figure out what day I'm on...hmmmm....after my save on Saturday, I had to pause on Sunday. Inspiration only trickles in here...I think today was day 6 with the pause. I know I'll be able to get through the week but I'm going to have a busy week-end. It will be stress filled so I should really try to find some time to go walking BY MYSELF each day....
Diet? Well, the time does not seem right. Shoot, if I could get on a roll with both at the same time I'd be....skinnier!!
Hope all is well with everyone!

Day 12 & 13 - good - Practice portion control at dinner - 2 pauses left
Day 12 & 13 - good - Minimum of 64 oz water - 2 pauses left
Well, have to start over on the exercise and I'm not going to do it until next week I guess. Yesterday I had to make another trip to Yellowstone to bring my husband some stuff he decided he had to have. My day ended up being spent shopping for him and driving up there and back. We are also going up again this weekend and I've got so much to do!
Apple - I know what you mean about doing both the diet and the exercise! I'm really good at the exercise part. The diet part is another story. Somehow we both need to get that one figured out. Good job on the exercise though!
09-23-2007, 07:15 PM
Heh all. Sorry to have gone AWOL... :^: I've been having way too much to eat, too little exercise...sigh. I'm going to go simple again. It's always the best way to get back in the game. Let me think a bit and I'll see you soon. I haven't read the posts yet. Hope all's well.
09-26-2007, 04:20 PM
OK!! Here's the new challenge. I MUST write everything down, exercise and food and vitamins and drinks. Too much, WAY too much is going into my mouth!!!  Day 1 here I come!!!
09-27-2007, 11:05 AM
Hi Red! Glad to see you back and to hear you're getting back on track! I'm doing the same. Just started back up yesterday and am going to try really hard to keep up with things no matter how crazy life gets! I'm still having to make trips to Yellowstone every week to bring my husband supplies until this job he is on is over, but I'll get through it. It's just hard when I'm on the road, and then staying in the camp trailer where he's got so much junk food!
Day 1 - Count calories!!!! - good - level 3
Day 1 - follow exercise plan - good - level 3

I missed you all and I am going to try to come back.
Last month was packed with new things.
Work, social life, etc.
I need to watch better when I eat and what I eat. In general I am not very bad: dinner is protein + salad + dressing. If I could only cut the dressing now, and have that dinner earlier. Cannot complain to much, my new boyfriend cooks, and does it quite well. I only cooked 3 times during the last 4 weeks.
We go for a walk daily, but need to get the gym back into the routine. May be next week, he is willing to fight with me, which is great.
For now I will make a committement to post everyday.
09-27-2007, 01:46 PM
One more note, I did loose like 5 pounds over this month.

Wow! You guys went a few days without posting! Well, I have been busy with my husbands side of the family here for about a week now. It has pretty much made it impossible to find time for myself and I haven't been taking care of this poor body AT ALL. The bad news is that I'm going away in about a week and so that will continue to make it hard. I'm going to try to be good until I leave. Although this week-end might be tough again. Ughhh. I have to think of a challenge that won't be too hard over my trip.
Well, right now I'm going to take a walk. Bye!
Hi again CBETA!
09-27-2007, 09:01 PM
Hi dj! Good to see you. You're one of the few holding this space together. And you're the reason I'm posting now. I've been shirking my duties too long!!! Yesterday started out well, then it was downhill because of a bash for two people leaving the office. I think I can still remember what I put in my mouth, of course, not the quantity!!! Sigh. But, it was necessary in a way....hahaha. Anyhow, I'm not rolling, on the track or to the side of it, I'm here! Everyone, jump in and help breathe life into the thread again and help us trying to hang on!!! :dancer:
09-27-2007, 09:28 PM
WOW!!! I justs posted and when my message went through there were lots more posts, not just dj!! Great!! :spin: I'll be back in a jiff to check it out. Heh CBETA! Howdy Apple!!

Ok, read 'em over. CBETA, way to go on the weight loss! :bravo: Shy, glad to see you're still with us and Apple, I really hear you on the "not taking care of yourself." :( We all push too hard at times and the first one to suffer is us, isn't it? All I can say is, look, don't be hard on yourself but thinking you have to be "good" and then not enjoying your trip. Have a blast, indulge, go crazy. That's what life is for. You only go around once (that we're aware of) so the being good part should just be to get you to the place where you have some wild and crazy moments in your life that make it so worth living! THEN, you can come back in here and be on the straight and narrow. In any case, Apple, we're here and hoping you will be too!
09-27-2007, 10:07 PM
I go in and update that one post. Add different posts when I see someone needs a way to go. :) This is much easier than I thought it would be. I don't forget to do what I need to do because I don't want to post and say I haven't stuck with it lol. My goals are pretty simple for this first 21 days, just making sure I am doing what I should be doing, did add a walking video to my daily routine. Will see after this 21 is over what I might want to add to the next 21.
09-27-2007, 10:24 PM
That's great, Shy! I'm happy to hear that this thread is helping you keep going steadily. And simple goals are some of the best! Power to you! :strong:
09-27-2007, 11:46 PM
I baked 25 loves of bread the other day. Have to wonder if that shouldn't count as exercise lol. All that bending down to the oven.
09-28-2007, 07:57 AM
Sounds like exercise to me, Shy!!!!
09-28-2007, 11:00 AM
Day 2 - Count calories!!!! - good - level 3
Day 2 - follow exercise plan - good - level 3
Wow, nice to see everyone posting!
Shy - If I baked that much bread, I would count it as exercise. I'd be exhausted! An hour on my step sounds easier.
Apple - I know how hard it is to travel and stay healthy. Maybe you can fit in some extra walking?
Cbeta - Congrats on the weight loss! It sounds like your life is going well right now. That's wonderful! Sure wish my husband would cook, although if he did, I'd probably weigh even more!
Red - I know what you mean about way too much going into the mouth! That's my biggest problem. Seems like we have too many reasons to eat and not enough to pass it by. I have gained 15 pounds since my lowest weight a year ago and it's so frustrating! I think we both need to find ways to beat the stress. Just DON'T give up!
Have a great day everyone!
09-29-2007, 06:49 AM
Hi all. I'm not doing very well and I'm really hating myself for pigging out. I've gained all the weight back I took off in the States and I had felt sooo good with that off. Now, it's back to try to hide the gut again. :( dj, thanks for the encouragement. I must stick to my motto and not give in to frustration at my seemingly losing battle with myself and my indulgences. I am wasting my life, all this precious time when I could be feeling super about myself. Instead, I go around in circles. OK, OK, I will NOT be so hard on myself, but come on, get with it, like what's the story? Why do I keep saying I want to lose weight and then don't, or do and then do everything that I know is going to put it back on. Sigh. Story of my life.
