I've been reading a lot about supplements and besides the ones that the clinic has me on right now, I'm wondering about Omega 3 with flaxenseed oil, Biotin and glucosamine? A couple of people that I know, said the Omega 3 fish oil leaves a bad aftertaste. I know I won't be able to start these until I can swallow a pill, but I'm trying to be prepared. I found out that my full liquid will be 21 days long, 14 days for pureed, and 14 days for soft. If you all have any suggestions about the supplements, please let me know.

The supplements that you basically need to take are a multivitamin, b-12, and calcium citrate. Those are the ones my surgeon told me to take starting 6 weeks after my surgery. When you have your bloodwork tested, they will give you recommendations based upon that. Otherwise I don't think you need to go crazy with supplements.

Thanks Stef. Reason I'm asking about Omegas and Biotin is for my hair and skin. I'm really doing everything I can to try and keep my hair. You know that song "Your so Vain" well it about me. LOL! I have a shar pei dog's skin and think that a hairless shar pei will be a little ridiculous looking. Trying to be humorous about this thing I've become so prideful about.

take a deep breath, Nancy. there's a huge amount of debate about what we can do to keep our hair. one of the best things you can do is to make sure you hit your protein goals. the NEXT thing is to remember that IT'LL GROW BACK!!! the hair loss is believed to be due to the huge hormone changes that come from the extremely rapid weight loss. IT COMES BACK. and as long as you keep up with your protein and basic vits, it'll be thicker than ever, at least in most cases.

having said all that - would biotin and omega 3s be a good idea? not sure what to tell you about that. but i CAN tell you that the glucosamine is generally used to rebuild cartilage, so if you have osteoarthritis [and you probably do because of the excess weight], it's a good thing to take A LITTLE LATER. and be sure to take it for at least 6 months - it takes a LONG time to repair cartilage this way, and it might not work for you.

Thanks JP! I was really surprised when I went for my PAT work up and they took my height. I was 5'8" all my life and now I'm only 5'7"! I took a few months of glucosamine for my knee before I had it replaced and it didn't seem to do anything for me. I think the knee was pretty much already gone. Trying to save my back (it needs fused), my other knee (bone against bone), right shoulder, neck, both ankles, and both of my hands. The hair.....since I've already dealt with one dieting disaster and hair loss, I guess I am kind of fixating on it a little too much.

I was happy to see on many bariatic sites the high protein recipes for after you start eating regular foods again. I profess that I am a "diet professional" and think that most of the recipes that I already knew about just had to be reminded that I will be able to eat again. I eat too big of portions and way too fast, so I think that is really going to be a big challenge for me. As for the protein, I read that one girl said that her doctor told her that he wanted he off of protein powders as soon as possible?! What was that all about? Do you still use protein drinks?

My date is July 25th, but the internist during my PAT decided that I dipped once to 88% in 7 hours of testing that I need further Pulmonary workup. They wanted me to repeat the whole sleep thing by their pulmonologist! YIKES! So I contacted mine, and they are doing a C-PAP titer Tuesday, reading it on Wednesday, doctor will sign off on it on Thursday and send the report to WLS clinic. The clinic is suppose to call me on Friday for the time of surgery next Wednesday. I'm looking into renting a C-Pap machine today just in case. Hope this doesn't throw a wrench in things. I know they are covering their butts, but come on. I've had so many general anesthesia, haven't croaked yet, and my pulmonologist said weight loss and position changes to cope with mild apnea. My surgeon was aware of all of this before PAT work and said it wasn't a problem. I'm still scratching my head! There I go thinking about my hair again! LOL!
