Hey all -
I started the diet yesterday, and I think it went pretty well!
Here is where I get a little confused. In the meal plan it has nonfat milk to go with the coffee or tea, but then in the foods to avoid for Phase I it says avoid all dairy including fat-free milk.
Soooooo......... what is the deal??? :?:
Also, when I went grocery shopping I didn't get peanuts or walnuts, I got almonds (raw)... then I look closer on the the list and they aren't on the "Foods to Enjoy" list, but they aren't on the "Foods to Avoid" list.

Under the old version of the diet, there was no dairy, but under the new guidelines you should have two 1-cup servings of nonfat dairy (milk or yogurt) per day. Almonds are permitted, but you don't want to consume more than 1 ounce of nuts/seeds per day--that's why they're not on the "enjoy" list.

The dairy thing has changed:
two servings per day of the following foods can be included on the Foods to Enjoy list of Phase 1:
1 percent milk
fat-free milk
low-fat plain soy milk (4 grams of fat per serving)
1 percent or fat-free buttermilk
fat-free plain yogurt
And for the almonds, I think you can have 15 for a serving. I go with pistachios cause you can have 30!

I didn't know that there was an old and a new version.... The book I am working off of is from 2003. Is there a newer one??
Here you go! There is lots of good information in the Frequently Asked Questions section of the forum.

Welcome!! I asked a similar question when I first started back on the diet as I have an older verison of the book also. You can also have fat free half and half. I know that putting non fat milk in my coffee every day is gettig boring. I am going to get the half and half. Nice to meet another fellow coffee lover! Good luck to you.

I'm also a coffee freak. :D I drink iced coffee with skim milk in it. I generally use 1/2 cup milk so I count it towards my daily dairy allowance.

I'm also a coffee lover! I make a little frap when I'm needing something a lil sweet that is totally SB friendly
1/2 a teaspoon instant coffee
1/2 a teaspoon vanilla extract
2 packets of sweetner
1 cup FF milk
I add like a teaspoon of water to the coffee first to dissolve it, then add the others
It really helps my frap craving without all the added sugar

Add me to the list of coffee lovers! I love it iced or hot, as long as it has milk and splenda in it.

I'm a coffee lover as well! Love mine black and strong!
In the Summer time though, I'll put splenda and milk in hot coffee, then chill for a nice iced coffee on a really hot day.

WooHoo..coffee lovers, count me in too! I also didn't know that I could have ff half/half..the thing that confuses me is so many of the ff items that I check, have MORE sugar in them than the Light version..in those cases, what does a person do? choices
