Morning ladies! Well, didn't do the best this weekend--but better than previously so I'm going to consider it a success. I stepped on the scale a couple days ago and was down a pound so I was happy with that. I have to work on getting back to strict induction otherwise I'll never stay OP. When I allow "a little of this" or "some of that" it doesn't work. Hope you all had a great weekend :)

 Morning

Brenda, WTG on the lb lost!! :cb:

Doing good here, & getting my exercise in.

Have a great day ladies!

Hi ladies,

I got great news last night. My son's Army Unit is coming home next Monday. Some of the guys in his unit wern't "up to Par" to be deployed . They are now scheduled to redo the Desert Training in April. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this might mean they won't be deployed for quite a while. Two of the other Units he has been working with are going straight to Iraq, but his group is coming home. I really look forward to seeing him and I miss him alot.

I'm trying to get back on track today after a total weekend of food blowout with the family reuniion. I did my grocery shopping yesterday and it's back to all healthy food in my house.

My garden is going great. I picked bunches of fresh tomatoes, squash, green beans and corn on the cob last night.

Everyone else here is still asleep and I'm aggravated that the girls didn't do the dishes last night like I told them to. I awoke to find 2 sinks of dirty dishes. I did them as I didn't have a single clean coffee cup. I'm thinking I'll now make them do the dishes all week for not obeying me.

I've absolutely gotta go to the bank and pay my bills. So, I hope everyone has a good day and I'll catch up more later.

07-09-2007, 03:46 PM
Good morning!

Brenda, congrats on the loss!
I also have a problem with a "little of this'' & a "little of that" it always seems to lead to a ''little more of this'' and ''a little too much of that''.

Lily, I'm glad your son is comming home! :dancer:
I remember being a teenager and having to wash dishes, back then I thought my parents just had kids to use us as slaves. Just wait til the're on there own and have to do everything for themselves.

Everyone else, Lets all have a wonderful week!

07-10-2007, 09:36 AM
Good Morning everyone! I'm the newbie and am so happy to say that I've lost 7 pounds in the last four days! So far I'm finding this a very easy diet to live with. I'm not hungry or bored yet with the food choices I have.

I've been reading lots of posts here and have gotten lots of good tips and recipes!

Looking forward to getting to know lots of you Adkins followers! :flow1:

07-10-2007, 09:54 AM
Hi Sara, and welcome to Atkins! Isn't it wonderful how quickly the weight can drop off?

Just remember to try not to get discouraged when/if the loss slows down. A lot of what we lose in that first big rush is water weight, and our bodies need time to adjust to the new fuel-burning system afterward, so there may be days or even weeks when the scale doesn't move. But keep at it! I know the weight loss is great, but in the end it's all about your health. :)

(Now if only I could take my own advice instead of hopping on the scale every day, LOL!)

I'm so glad to see another "newbie" who's enjoying herself!

Everyone else: good morning! Hope you have a great day.

07-10-2007, 10:06 AM
Callystia, your stats are awesome. How long have you been doing Adkins?

I know the first few weeks are the quickest in losing weight, I'm just so happy that I'm losing and I'm not starving

Having this site to keep motivated when the weight loss starts to slow down or stall is going to be a great tool. Its nice to find people in the same boat and doing the same diet.

07-10-2007, 10:12 AM
This site is priceless; I would never have lost the weight I did without it.

Thanks for the compliment, but unfortunately not all the weight was lost in ways as healthy as Atkins. MOST of it was--all but about fifteen pounds--but I did have a period of both starving myself and bingeing/purging. Not recommended, and I'm so glad I came back to this way of eating.

I've had several instances of "taking a break from my diet", which I shouldn't have done as they just stretched out longer and it's taken me a few years to drop 85ish pounds. I really wish I'd just stuck with Atkins from the beginning, because I would have been at goal long ago. :(

07-10-2007, 10:24 AM
What a journey you've had Callystia. Thanks for sharing. I've been on several different diets, done all sorts of diet pills, and have fasted a few times to lose that quick 5-10 lbs.
At this point in my life I'm at my all time high and I just knew that I had to do something different and from what I've read the Adkins Diet seemed the right way for me to go. I need a life change. No more dieting.

This site will help me tremendously and I have my husband eating what I'm he's a wonderful help-mate here at home!

07-10-2007, 10:38 AM
:coffee: Good morning

Dh and I forgot to get out of bed when the alarm went off  Good thing the shop is literally around the corner!!

Doing good, and getting my exercise in. :running:

Have a great day ladies.

07-10-2007, 11:18 AM
Morning everyone-

Lily I am so happy that your son is home for now. You must be relieved.

Cally I hear you about regretting not sticking to the plan for longer. But it is important that now we are doing it !

Robin Way to go on your exercising:)

Sara Welcome and congrats on your loss.

The last couple of days I have been experimenting with calories, foods etc. I found a program similar to fit day that I am now journaling my food in daily. I have always journaled my daily food. However, I did not watch specifics like calories. I should get my atkins book today or tomorrow. I am excited about that. I am hoping to lose my 2lb gain frm last week this week.

07-10-2007, 12:11 PM
Hi ladies,

Welcome Sara and WTG on that first 7 lbs., that is great.

I am very happy to know my son is coming home.

I'm still trying to get back on track with my eating. I am getting some exercise, but it would be better if this rain would go away. I had HulaHoop contests with my kids last night. LOL, I'm getting pretty dang good at it.

I'm getting tons of fresh veggies now from my garden. I can't wait til my watermelons are big enough to eat .

My DH is sick with a respiratory infection and I've been trying to coerce him to go to a doctor. (stubborn man). I'm afraid he'll end up with pneumonia if he doesn't get his butt in there. It is obviously not a viral infection because no one else here has gotten sick and I catch EVERYTHING. He's been coughing and hacking for almost 2 weeks. Yuck.

I'm glad to say my clothes still fit. I'm sitting here in my size 6 Levi's that my son bought me. They are so big on me that the crotch is hanging halfway to my knees. LOL, I guess I am gonna have to go change jeans. (I felt fatter is why I put these on, LOL).

07-10-2007, 08:43 PM
Lilly I can not wait until my crotch hangs low. (of my jeans not the other) I can feel my scrub pants starting to get loose, (Starting to hang. )but the ones smaller are too tight. and same with the scrub shirts. the 2x fit a bit loose except at the hips where they fit good now. but the 1x are just too tight at the hips.

I am sad to say that a pair of jeans shorts that fit me last year still fit me this year. I wish they were too big but I must be patient!!!

07-10-2007, 08:47 PM
I remember the first time I realized my 22s had gotten so baggy I could just pull them down without unbuttoning them. That was how I knew it was time to make a run to Goodwill! LOL

Don't know if I'll ever be to the point of 6s being baggy, but it'll be fun to at least not have to hold my breath to wear them. ;)

Y'all wish me luck, please. The husband and I have to take a road trip Thursday and Friday, then we're flying to LA for a week starting Sunday. I don't think I'll be tempted by carbs--although TOM is coming so who knows--but eating well while traveling can be tough.

07-11-2007, 09:48 AM
Cally - Enjoy your trip

nasus- hang in there keep on keeping on :) The clothes will get loose soon.

I had my weigh in this morning and I lost 1 lb. Better then nothing! I know now that I am watching different things that I neglected to before I will lose more in the coming weeks .

07-11-2007, 09:54 AM
 Im hangin' in there

07-11-2007, 10:11 AM
Hey Robin good to see you :)

07-11-2007, 12:30 PM
Hi everyone,

I am getting so many fresh squash, corn on the cob and tomatoes that I have been giving it away to the neighbors. It is seriously more than we can use and I'm using it every night. My Okra is growing but not quite ready yet. I made home-made Mexican cornbread last night (although it's fattening) and I skipped my grilled pork chop since I wanted a slice of the cornbread. I got the fresh jalapenos from my garden to put in it. I am just loving gardening. It sure takes the guesswork out of "what's for dinner?". LOL, it's fresh veggies, salad and grilled meat every night.

It has been raining here several times a day. I have been exercising a lot with my hula hoop. My tummy is actually sore from using it so much. I'm using it 30 min's each day and anytime I watch TV, I use it during each commercial. I hope this rain will go away and I can get back to walking the steep hill again soon.

Ladies, you all are doing so well and will be in smaller clothes soon. It took me a long time to get here, but it was worth it.

My house is quieter for a few days. My 18 yr. old SD left to the Coast Guard today. My DS will be home next Monday.

My 15 yr. old DD and 15 yr. old SD decided they wanted to share a bedroom. So , last night they cleaned Lacy's room up and moved Shelbey's bed in there too. I wonder how long this will last? LOL. Shelbey loves a clean room and Lacy doesn't. I have 2 extra bedrooms and they still want to share a room. They have been "sisters" since they were 5 yrs. old, and these girls are Very close.

07-12-2007, 09:37 AM
 still doing good :D

07-12-2007, 09:47 AM
Lily-I always wanted a sister., My best friernd was like my sister. I miss her everyday. She passed away when she was 18. I think it is wonderfuil your sd and dd are that close.

Robin way to go keep it up :)

I am munching on a 1 minute muffin right now. My first one boy is it yummy :)

07-12-2007, 10:44 AM
I'm hanging in there. Still not the lowest of carb options but lower than I'd have normally so I'm counting it good. Just need to get food in the house and we all know how expensive it is to eat LC. Hope you all have a great weekend :)

07-12-2007, 11:00 AM
Hi Ladies -

I have a question. I made a marinade for my chicken. The marinade in total has 6 carbs. I am using 6 chicken breasts in it and most of the marinade is left in the dish. How man carbs would you count for each piece of chicken?

07-12-2007, 11:40 AM
Nikki, just to be safe, I'd count 1 carb for each piece of chicken I ate.

Hi everyone, we had a great time at the country club pool yesterday. I swam laps for 2 hrs. and just would rest a few min's when I would get really tired. It sure felt great. I didn't worry at all about being seen in my swimsuit, or about being/looking/feeling too fat. There were 2 men (total strangers,LOL) that were doing laps and I just got beside them and kept right up. They didn't tell me to go away. LOL. It felt so good to feel comfortable swimming in public and not feel the need to hop in and then throw my towel up on the side. We're going again this afternoon. I may get some suntan on this white body after all, LOL. (We usually just swim at the lake and jump off of the boat). DH came over to the pool after he played golf. He actually told me "you look better in that swimsuit that any of the other women here". This just simply made me feel good even though I'm sure it's not true. Me, Lacy and Shelbey did our make-up before going swimming. LOL, we wanted to look our best.

07-12-2007, 11:46 AM
Lily - Way to go on the swimming. I love swimming. I am hopefully going back to swimming this weekend. I figured I should count each piece as 1 carb. Thanks for your response.

07-12-2007, 04:27 PM
Hey everyone!! I don't think I've checked in yet this week.

speaking of swimming, we have a pool at our apt complex and I've been going on the weekends and try to get over there after work every day if there aren't too many people there. Sure helps to cool off and get some great exercise!

Well, I went to the Dr. yesterday for my weigh in/check up and I've lost 10lbs and my blood pressure was down!! :carrot: I told her that the phentermine she prescribed didn't do anything for me....I took it for a month and then I quit it and started doing low carb so the 10 pounds I had lost in the last month was from doing low carb...she was very pleased. :D

So i'm trying to stay OP...i've been able to refuse the donutes, cookies and cakes, etc that are always in our office. I work in a Dr. office so the drug reps are always bringing something in for us.

07-12-2007, 04:27 PM
I'm still hangin' in there.

Lily, I'm sure your husband was right.
I love swimming to, but haven't gone in a long time.

07-12-2007, 04:29 PM
YAY SUNCHICK! congrats on the 10lbs gone!!:carrot:

07-12-2007, 09:09 PM
Hey ya all. just stopingin to say Hi. I did a long post on the scale thread and just tuckered me out. I am heading to bed. Too much to do in the morning.

07-13-2007, 09:58 AM
KaChing!!! Sunchick!! WTG on the 10lbs :cb: :bravo:

...had a sub for supper, and a chocolate bar for dessert :( But Im back to it this morning :D

07-13-2007, 09:59 AM
Sunchick  way to go on your 10 lb loss

07-13-2007, 11:11 AM
Thanks for the support ladies!! Now if I could just get myself lazy bum off the couch and exercise!! actually it's not so much that I'm lazy, my knees, feet and hip hurt later in the day or the next day after I exercise (usually walking). I've been trying to get in the pool as much as possible since that doesn't seem to cause as much pain afterwards. I know it's all because I'm so overweight and as I lose weight it probably won't hurt as's just trying to get myself to that point. Guess I just have to grin and bear it for a while.

I was wondering if any of you have tried the Alli that just came out along with your low carb plan. My doctor mentioned/suggested it to me the other day. so I was wondering if anyone else had tried it and what your thoughts or experiences were.

TGIF!! Hope everyone has a great weekend.

07-13-2007, 11:59 AM
I don't think taking alli while on Atkins would be the best of ideas. From what I understand of it, alli causes you to not digest a lot of the fat you eat--meaning that the fat just passes through and is expelled when you go to the bathroom. So it's really geared more toward low-fat diets...because you might, uh, have "accidents" if you don't lower the fat content you eat.

Since this way of eating actually encourages you to make sure you're eating ENOUGH fat, it just sounds like using alli while doing Atkins would be asking for humiliation. But I may be wrong, because I haven't tried it.

07-13-2007, 12:35 PM
LeiAn, I think taking Alli while on Atkins would necessitate you changing your whole food plan. Since with Atkins, it is common to eat a lot of protein, cheese, full fat sour cream, salad dressings and such. All of these things and Plenty of others would kick the Alli in and cause an embarassing bowel problem (I would think). Atkins is most definitely not a lowfat plan. But, the good news is you lost 10lbs. and are doing great with Atkins, so IMHO, I would just stick to Atkins.

The rain finally cleared briefly yesterday and we went swimming again. I did laps for an hr. My arms are feeling a little sore this morning. I'm starting to get an actual suntan. Unfortunately, it's now raining again. I cannot remember ever having this many weeks of rain in a row before.

Today will be spent struggling to get back 100% on plan with eating after a planned indulgence of pizza last night. I'm waiting now for the girls to wake up so we can go to the bank, drop off bills at post office and go grocery shopping. It is dang hard to stick 100% on plan when I need more food in the house. This morning I ate 1/2 of a SBD breakfast bar and it tasted like crap to me. But, my coffee is great as usual. LOL

07-13-2007, 01:12 PM
Thanks for the replies re: Alli. I was kind of thinking those same thoughts but wanted to pick everyone's brain to see if I got a different opinion. I can definately do without those side effects. Although I did read on the Alli website msg board a msg from either a doctor or a dietician that takes the Orlistat/Xenical and does low carb and said it worked great for them. I, like you, think it would cause problems.

07-13-2007, 09:05 PM
Peeked at virgin fat territory this morning. I will not post it until I see it again. that may be a while as I leave sunday for camping and well who knows. I think I am prepared but I will not be able to tell until i get there. hitting the virgin fat area will hopefully be incentive to stay OP atl east most of the time.

Virgin fat is where I was 2 years ago for a brief moment in time, and the evf is the extra virgin fat where I was in spring of 2002. (had not seen that since 1990 before that time) and then proceded to gain after that. so I am getting there. slow but hard work.

My son asked for subs for dinner. (I cooked chicken thighs with bbq sause on it.) I told him I could not eat that as I was allergic to bread. he laughed at me and said he has seen me eat bread. I told him I know but every time I eat a lot of bread I get fat. he shut up then and stopped harassing me.

07-14-2007, 11:00 AM

Hi LeiAn, Im taking it. I am doing a lowcarb weight watchers....While I dont think it would be good to take alli when you are on induction....Im not having any problems taking alli even with a higher fat diet than what is recommended on the labeling. I also take a fibre supplement, and I really think that helps alot too. But I love how it works!!!!

I also wouldnt rely on the alli message board!!!!! What some of those women are doing are not recommended! Check out the alli support forum in general diets here on 3fc.

As for the effects, its really not as bad as some of them are saying (for me anyway) Im on a routine now, and when I have eaten a large fat filled meal, I know that the next morning I need to use the facilities right after eating breakfast and eating lunch. Sometimes 2 or 3 x, but then Im good for the day.

If you know anyone already taking it, offer to buy 3 days worth of pills from them just to try. It takes about 2 days to start to notice any difference in your bm's. That way you arent putting out $50 for something you may not like.

Well, thats my 2cents....hope it helps. :)

if you want to see what Ive been eating ....check my blog. Ive been keeping pretty good track of my food intake there. That will give you an idea as to what Ive been eating, how low carb its been. The only time Ive have alli giving me intense "treatment effects" is when I eat stuff like subs, and after eating out. But again....its not bad enough to stop taking it.

07-14-2007, 06:48 PM
Hi ladies, I spent 4 hrs. swimming at the pool today. I used my #8 sunscreen protection. Apparently it wasn't enough, as my back and shoulders are pretty darn red. I did get lots of laps in and it felt really good. Now, I'll be nursing a sunburn for a day or two. My next swim day planned is on Tuesday and I hope I'm OK by then.

Last night it rained all evening. I managed to walk 2 miles on my treadmill. So my exercise has at least been pretty consistent even if my eating is not perfect.

Robin, I'm glad to see you aren't having a problem with Alli. I actually have considered taking it to be able to get to my "secret goal" of 135. But, I'd have to hide it from DH as he would throw a fit. He tells me all the time that I "look great and definitely don't need to lose more wt.". Just being sensible, I think since I'm on all the liver med's, I should at least ask my hepatologist before I tried it. What do you think?

07-14-2007, 08:32 PM
Well, Id ask the dr. but Im not sure if alli would even effect your meds. The alli works in the intestine, so anything you shouldnt be effected by the alli. BUT, if you are having alot of what they call "treatment effects" then its running everything right thru your system, and you arent absorbing what you need to. They suggest you pay attention to effects if you are taking birth control pills. Because if you are eating alot of fats, everything seems to get pushed thru, and your pills dont get a chance to absorb, I think if I remember correctly, along with your vitamins....that you should also take b/c pills before bed. Maybe that might be a good option? But I'd check just to make sure, I wouldnt want you to mess with your liver, especially when you have trouble with it.

07-14-2007, 08:39 PM
Hi everyone!
This morning I made that 1 minute muffin and I don't know if I made it right, but I thought it had a weird taste to it.
It seemed to me like the egg was a little to much for the little amount of flax meal.
It looked and smelled good, but it tasted like a sweet egg mixture.
I think I may try it again tomorrow.

07-15-2007, 12:04 AM
Hi Ladies, I hope you’re all having a great weekend.
I'm still hangin' in there. I allso mannaged to get a sun burn yesteday.
I was prescribed orlistat (alli) about 6 years ago but was to afraid to take it. I have a lot of stomach/intestinal problems already, but have thought about it a lot since then. I may try it in the future if I cant lose all my weight without it. I really appreciate people sharing their experiences with it, especially in combination with a low carb diet.

07-15-2007, 02:19 PM
Thanks for the info. Robin about Alli. I had heard it works in the intestine so I thought maybe it might be Ok for me to take. Just to be safe, I think I'll ask my doctor though. I always have such horrible problems with constipation, it might actually help me. LOL.

I'm so happy to say my son is coming home from California tonite (where he's been for his summer Army training). I can't wait to see him.

I'm so sunburned it sure made sleeping Very uncomfortable. My exercise has been going well, but I still need to get the eating back 100%. Wt. is 146 lbs. this morning, so now 1 lb. over goal. I'm trying to at least get back down to 141 to give myself a little "wiggle room".

07-15-2007, 03:23 PM
Hi Everyone!!:) Long time no "see!":dizzy: Have enjoyed catching up with old friends and already feel like I "know" the new faces here at Atkins.

Updated my profile and see I haven't been here since March - and think even that was brief. Basically I've tried a few other plans while "away" with some really disastrous results!:o When I left Atkins, I see that I was down to 228 from my all time high of 245. You can see I've got a new all time high of 248!:^: After the birth of my 9 year old I did Atkins and lost around 80-90 pounds - felt great and wasn't that hard to do--that's why I'm back and resolved.

Menopause is still giving me FITS - these hormone swings/mood swings make the self medicating with carbs that much more difficult and just like those one commercials - all the weight is in the mid section! I feel like I sould be able to lose a ton in hot flashes alone! lol.

Hope to check in at least once a "day" - still on that night shift so it will prolly be around 3am-ish.

Tx for being here!:)

07-15-2007, 06:16 PM
Aud, welcome back, we've missed you. I can definitely relate to the hot flashes. I bet I pull covers on and throw them off again 20 times each night. DH complains that I burn him up with throwing the covers on him all the time. LOL.

Aud, have faith that you are back here now and will triumph over this weight. We are here to support you anytime you need. Hugs.

I just worked 2 hrs. in my garden. We've had so much rain lately that it was starting to look really bad. It is so dang hot out there. I'm taking a cooling off break now and will go work some more in it later this evening when it cools off some more. I had so many tomatoes, squash, green beans and corn on the cob to pull today that I had to send a bunch of it to work with DH to give away. Tonites dinner will be grilled chicken and tons of fresh veggies from my garden.
