Hi everyone!
For the newbies, we are a group of ladies who lose weight and get fit by good old fashioned exercise and monitoring how much we eat-either by counting calories,Weight Watchers points, or Food Mover-all in all about the same thing, just a different way of keeping track.
I started this thread in the spring, and have made some great friends and gained a lot of support. It seems like everywhere you turn you see some sort of quick fix-a pill, a machine-something promising you the body of your dreams...I have tried a lot of gimmicks in the past and wished I'd have saved that money and bought a real nice treadmill!
Pease join us if you want to lose and keep it off for life!
How are you all doing ladies? I jumped on the scale again this morning and it said 196! I kept getting on and off, making sure it was right...I even moved it to a differetn place on the bathroom floor! I cannot beleive I have lost 6 pounds since I have been back on track this last week and a half! I have been working out all over, and it sure feels good.
kd580-I finally found where you post your daily menu on another thread last night. Your weight and your calorie intake looks okay-keep it between 1400-1900-you went to 2000 a little more often than you should if you want to lose a bit quicker. The main problem I see is that you are using quite a bit of your calories on junk food-peanut butter cups,Doritos, cookies, and a lot of cheese-all in one day, and a lot of breads-you are not eating hardly any vegetables or fruits-not even juices, and not much protein. You told me you hate them, so let me know if there is one you like at all-and I will find good ways of preparing them.
I have a major sweet tooth as well, but have to watch it-you are not giving your body as many nutrients as it needs. The types of meats you are eating are good-especially tuna. To give yourself more vitamins and satisfy that sweet tooth, I suggest you try a Chocolate Slim Fast shake for one meal-it also has fiber in it-I don't really care for the other flavors. try to limit your junk intake-and leave your treat for once a day-and try to eat a Hershey kiss or something small like that-or a vanilla wafer or gingersnap in place of a big cookie. It will help you satisfy your sweet tooth, but allow you to have more of your calories for healthier foods.
Tupo,Live in-how are you ladies? Check in with us!;)
Willbethin-are you still doing well-I hope so...you have done good the past few days.
Well, I will talk soon.

Hi!
Hope you don't mind me joining in. I've been checking out the board and feel this thread is a good fit for me right now.
A little about me:
I'm a stay home Mom of a 3 yr old son. I have a very supportive husband that loves me thin or fat but I know he would much rather I be closer to the size I was when we met. Until now the most weight I've ever had to deal with losing is 10-15 pounds. I was 117-120 until I miscarried our lst child. It put me in a deep depression and I ate and ate and ate. I think I thought feeling a fat belly would make me still feel pregnant. I was at 175 when I got pregnant with our son and gained up to 240. I got my weight down to 162 when I did a BFL challenge in 2000 but managed to gain most of it back. Right now I'm taking it slow with counting calories and walking and will soon get myself back to the gym. You all seem like a very supportive bunch and I hope 'together' we can all reach our goals. Thanks for listening.

hi faith, welcome.
i too had lost one child, however i wanted to drink, i didnt turn into an alcoholic or anything, but i went through a short depression, cause i waited so long to get pregnant. luckily, as soon as the docs said i could try again i got pregnant. and when i lost the first one i wasnt so far along, but it still hurt.
i am 36 yrs old, one girl, i would love to have more, hubby doesnt want one , which is another issue i have to deal with. i am 5'3 and weigh 184. and it is all in my chest, i hate these things, they are so heavy. i am trying to stick with ww points. some days are good and some bad, but i am on my way to mostly good day. i will see at my weigh in on sat.
the main thing that has changed about me is no more yo yo dieting, i have to choose to eat healthy and stick with that, no matter how much i want to try an eating plan that worked for someone else or every new diet that comes out.
i dont beat myself up , get depressed or quit when i have a really bad eating day or weigh in day. sure i still get depressed over the way i look in clothes or when my back hurts , but i will never quit. i have got to lose this weight to be healthy.
we can all do it and cheer each other on, on good days and bad.

HI,
Faith-I am so glad You are joining us!:)
I too have a great husband who loves me thin or heavy-my problem is he doesn't like it when I am too thin-hence my first goal of 160, rather than 120 or 130. I have an hourglass figure, hippy and chesty, and that is what he likes.
I had told you about my gain after my first child, losing it, and getting pregnant again-and now starting over. My daughter is 3, and my son is 8 months.
I am feeling really good this past couple weeks, I had some setbacks, but am back on track now.
I started out after my son at 202, and am now 196. I am 5-7, and I like to be between 130-160-because of my height and frame, at 130 I wear a 5/6 and at 160 I wear a 12.
I chose 160 to get to first, because I can do it with a fair amount of work by summer. After that I really have to work out and the loss really slows down a lot-it is usually the point I really plateau.
Willbethin-glad to know you are chesty also-I wear a 38DD, and can hardly stand to be in the shower or tub without my bra for long periods of time. It is a pain to find a sports bra that really fits, and most bras in stores in 38's stop at D, and DD's usually start at 40-so unless I order them I can hardly find a bra that fits well. I was a 36C when I met my husband, and they were perky and perfect! Tehy look awful as of now! ha ha
They blew up a size after each child, and after I lose all the weight, they will probably only go down 1 cup size! I suggest you try Olga bras if you haven't already for the support-they have nice wider straps-but are still pretty. They have them at nicer department stores.
Well, I will check in tonite and tell you how I did today-so far so good.

Do you mind if I join in? I have just started counting calories this week. It is one of the few things that I really haven't given a shot before. It seems like I've tried every other "plan" out there. I am using dietwatch (and lots of measuring cups and spoons!) to keep track of everything. I also hit the gym most mornings before work and have just gotten the go-ahead from my Dr. to begin using light weights again. I have had ongoing trouble with my thyroid and fatigue and other small medical problems. I am 27 and need to lose about 30lbs. It seems like it takes FOREVER for me to lose even 1 lb and then it's such a struggle to keep it off. I guess you guys must know what that feels like.
I have a ?? I am 5'4 160lbs. From your experience, should I be eating 1500 or 1800 calories a day? From what I've read, most sites recommend 1200, but I don't think I could stick to that forever. This week I've been doing 1500 and seem to be able to handle that most days, but I don't want to make my metabolism any worse than it already is..... Whadd'ya think?
I'm looking forward to learning from you guys. Jeesh! You'd think I could be my own nutritionist after all of the books I've read! Hopefully I can contribute something that will be helpful for you too. Have a great night!
Take Care,
Katy

hi katyD, welcome, yes unfortunatly i know how you feel, aphil is really good at giving advice and support. i , feel like you, i should know everything there is you need to know to lose weight, i have been on everything. i can offer support, but i have been struggling the last couple of weeks, so i am not in a position to give advice yet.
as a matter of fact, i had another setback last night, a situation came up unexpectedly, that delayed my dinner, and was very aggrevating, and i handled it all wrong. (aphil , i know, excucses, excuses), but if i was able to handle this in the pass i wouldnt be overweight. i am working on it.
new day , new attitude. i dont even know how many calories i should be eating. i am just trying to count ww points.:dizzy:
glad you joined us, if we stick together, we can do it.
oh aphil, thanks for the info on bras, i dont even know exactily what size i am. i have all different sizes and some fit and some dont. it is very frustrating.

Hi,
Katy-welcome! Why don't you try about 1600, see how you do for a couple weeks, and go from there. I don't recommend starting out at 1200-that is the lowest anyone should go, especially since you are exercising. If you don't have one-go to a bookstore and get a book the lists all the calories of foods. If there is a certain fast food place you eat at often, go to their website and find their nutrition information and you can see what you can eat . I copy them off and keep them with my book so I don't have to keep looking them up on the computer.
Willbethin-It will really help your back if you are wearing the correct size bra. Most women wear too large a band size and too small a cup size. If it is riding up in the back, try a smaller band size-it should fit snug-that is where the support base of the bra is. Check the center between your breasts, and it should be to your chest when you are standing straight, not gapping out away from you-if it is you need a larger cup size. You also need a larger cup if it is bulging a bit at the top-unless it is a Wonderbra type, your boobs shouldn't be coming out the top!
Hope that helps! Also look for non stretch straps if you are chesty-the best are Olga, Bali, Just My Size, etc.
Katy-another bit of advice-if you are making something that has a few different ingredients, like lasagna, add up the whole total of everything you put into it-like a jar of sauce for example-70 calories a serving,4 in a jar=280, and add them all together. Divide the total by how many pieces you cut it into and you get your calories per peice-that is how I cook for my family and eat what they eat. A calculator is recommended!

HI,
Wow! Everyone must be busy today!
I had a good day today-I went to my husband's little cousin's 3rd birthday party-and totally avoided the cake, ice cream, and punch!
It was at my mother-in-laws' and she had Chritmas M&M's all over the house in dishes, and I didn't have one! My reward is a Hostess Light cupcake I will have in a couple hours. I know how many calories is in it-and it is individually packaged, so I can't just keep eating it like I could if I started at the birthday party.
I feel really well, I am holding steady at 196, I will probably drop another pound in a day or two-I am not in a hurry. I am focusing on taking it one day at a time.
Aphil;)

Hello Everyone!
aphil, Good goin on staying away from all the birthday party goodies! I can't really say what I'd do at this present time and hope I don't have to find out anytime soon. :) You are so right about Olga bras being the best. They have discontinued the style I wear (Olga-style 344 no seam body silk) so I'm searching for another. I'm only a 38-C up from a 32-A at my previous weight.
willbethin, Don't let the setback get you down. All of last year was one big setback for me. We CAN do it!
KatyDes, How are doing? I know what you mean about having tried every other "plan" out there. I think I've tried them all and then some. I keep coming back to the basics of counting calories and good old exercise.
How are all of you coping with making Christmas cookies, candy, etc.? :?: My son keeps wanting us to make cookies and I keep postponing it. In the past I haven't been able to handle it without going on an all out binge. Cookies, candy, cakes & pastries have been part of my "daily" diet until I got back on track recently. I am so afraid of even getting close to any cookies much less making them. He had a fit for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts the other day and I caved in and let him have two and it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. We were having them no less than twice a month and I never left the store with less than 2-dozen. He still loves vegetables and fruit more than anything else, but he's got one heck of a sweet tooth. Unlike me, a little bit will satisfy him.
Well off to wrap more presents.

Hi,
Short-thanks for stopping by-it is nice to hear from you. I hope to see you too in the chat room!;)
Faith, the best holiday advice I can give is to find a low fat or Weight Watchers cookbook and find some goodies in there to make. You can even go online and find healthy recipes. You will know how many calories are in each one, and your kid will be happy.
Faith, you can do this, I know you can.
Willbethin-to properly fit yourself for a bra-get a measuring tape-the flexible kind like a seamstress uses-and have someone measure you at your chest snugly, but not too tight-right above your breasts, under your armpits-that is your band size. Then have them measure around the fullest part of your breasts while wearing a bra that the cups fit well. If the measurement is the same-AA, 1"more-A,2" more-B,3-c,4-D,5-DDorE,6-DDD or F,7-G.
Some bras go in E,F,G..others go in D,DD,DDD. I hope that helps you.
I am still holding at 196, I pushed myself a bit this morning and did 40 minutes instead of 30 on the bike. I feel good. I hope to hear from you soon.

hi aphil, thanks for the bra info. i stayed the same, but it is ok, i know why i did bad last week and i am on my 3 rd day of making great choices.
the cookies situation; i handled it like this. my daughter likes to bake too, and she wanted to decorate ginger people, so this year i agreed, cause i hate gingerbread. do you believe, i actually talked her into getting choc. chip last year, just so i could eat some of the batter, well ok alot of the batter.
i had a light breakfast, and am skipping lunch, cause i have a birthday dinner to go to. and it will be angelhair pasta, salad and chicken cutlets and birtday cake, so that is a good meal, but i will just have average size portions of each.
hope everyone is having a great day.

HI,
Faith, that was cute!
Willbethin-that is a good idea to make something for the holidays that you don't like, but the kids do. The only problem is there are very few cookies I don't like!:o
I had a small french fry yesterday-but I stayed within my calorie limits, and had a lot of fruit and chicken yesterday also.
I weighed in this morning-2 more down! That is 8 pounds now! yippee!!
My husband's friend was over yesterday, and he asked me if I had lost a little weight-I told him yes, and he said my face has thinned out a bit! That's funny-it's always the first thing to go, and my butt is the last!

Good Morning All,
Thanks for the welcomes and all of the advice. I did really well last week, but (somewhat intentionally) not so well over the weekend. I went to my grandmother's house in Louisiana for the weekend and (of course) she is the best cook in the world. She had many of my favorite treats and I really enjoyed indulging a bit but tried not to go crazy. I hit the treadmill this morning and am back on track for today. My boss is taking us to some fancy restaurant for a late lunch today. I'm having a light lunch at the usual time and will make the best choices that I can when I'm there. I know this is definitely not the best time of the year to attempt to drop weight, but hopefully with my diligence (most of the time), I won't gain and might gleefully lose a few.
Aphil, CONGRATS on your loss! Whoo-hoo! Any woman who can successfully lose this time of year is my hero!!!!
I hope that the rest of you are having a great day, I know we can do it. I really feel that this is the right way!
Take Care,
Katy
ps...Have any of you successfully limited your calories during the week and loosened it up a bit on the weekends, or did you find that this led to bingeing?
aphil
12-17-2001, 07:20 PM
Hi,
Katy-to answer what you said about loosening on weekends-when I got to my goal weight after my first baby, I worked out just as hard as when I was losing-and I allowed myself 200 more calories a day, or about 4 points on Weight Watchers to maintain.
When losing I try to keep my calories between 1400-1800, 1400 on most days, closer to 1800 on days I know I will be eating out, etc. A calorie or point book is the easiest way to keep track. If I know I am going somewhere ahead of time, I plan ahead what I will order, so I do not scan the menu and get tempted.
My saving grace is finding out online what restaurant foods I can have without blowing it.

Here I am!! I have really let up on myself over the past few days but I don't think I've gone as overboard as in the past. We went to a Christmas party on Sunday night and I think it's the only we will go to, so I indulged. I had 3 Doritos, LOL. I try to share with ds or dh and pick out the smallest of the not so great things. Thankfully, there were lots of fruit and veggies too. I think I may be emotionally eating just a little. It's my first af since the mc and I'm a little sad. Certainly not going to food to comfort me, but not counting calories either. We've been running around, doing a lot of shopping, getting the car fixed, checking out new cars, etc. No formal excercise, but whatever. As long as I don't gain right now, I'm not worrying about it.
Add me to the list of busty chicks on this board:). I am down to a 38 D from a 42 DD after ds was born. I hate the fact that there just aren't as many 'pretty' bras for us. Oh well. Voluptiousness has to come back in someday, right?

Hi,
Great post Faith! I will do the happy dance with you when you get to 199!;)
I had a good workout today with my strength training, and am making a modified version of lasagna for dinner.
Myhusband is getting me Slim Fast bars in my stocking instead of the usual huge Hershey kiss-the big sweetie! My stepfather is getting me some weightlifting support gloves for Christmas-he called yesterday and asked me what I wanted. My wrist has been bothering me a bit as I increase my workouts-so that will help me keep to it.
I may not post a whole lot over the next week, but I will come as often as I can-we are going out of town Friday to stay with my family, and then again for Christmas Eve and Christmas to stay with my husband's family. I am not expecting to lose over the next week and a half-but if I can make it to the new year weighing the same I will be happy. I will watch portions sizes, and go for the healthier fare, but I can't rummage through my in'law's fridge looking for carrots or apples when she has cooked all day-so I will have to estimate how many calories I am eating.
Wish me luck,
Aphil

I was waiting to really start baking until I felt more 'in control'. I've gotten a sudden boost the past two days, LOL, so I think I can start the cookies soon. Plus we will be having a college guy stay with us and he's a rail, he can eat them:). I've been waking up and saying 'I will eat good today' and I pray for God's guidance in the choices I make. It's really been working. This morning, I wanted Bart Simpson PB and Chocolate cereal, but opted instead for the women's oatmeal from Quaker Oats. A much better choice! I still use sweetened cereal as a healthier choice than ice cream at night for sweets, but I don't think it's a great way (for me ) to start the day. I also did some weights at the community center and some aerobic. I feel really good.

I'm almost 30 - I weighed in at 210 lbs in July of 2000. Using "the old fashioned way" I went down to size 12 at 160 lbs by my wedding date in September 2001. But, since the wedding I've gained back 15 lbs. I'm MISERABLE. Would like to lose at least 30 more, if possible.
Would love to have support.

Hey All,
I've been reading this board for some time now and figured I should be a little proactive and join in! I'll give a brief synopsis of my weight loss history. I've pretty much been overweight my whole life (I'm 24), my highest being about 220 in high school and the lowest about 165 in college. I got back up to 200 punds this summer and it freaked me out enough to start getting back in control. I've lost about 25 pounds since August and I am just trying to make it through the holidays without gaining any of that back! I didn't want to wait until Jan. 1st to recommit since in my mind that will give me free reign to eat whatever I want until then.
I also track my calories using Dietwatch. I used to be eating between 1400 and 1500 calories a day, but that has gone up to about 1800-2000 since Thanksgiving. The hardest thing for me will be going home to Boston for almost a week at Christmastime. My mother keeps the house stocked with every kind of junk food and dessert imaginable - and in large quantities. Now wonder most of my family is overweight. I know realistically I won't be able to restrict myself from a lot of it, but I just want to avaoid the binging and eating for no reason.
I haven't been exercising at all - that is something I'll be starting for the New Year. I've signed up for a Pilates class, which isn't much, but it's a start. My goal wieght for now is 145, but that may or may not be attainable. What I would really like is just to look really great in a size 8 regardless of what the # on the scale is - but to be honest that number is still really important to me at this stage.
I knew this was a good fit when all the bra talk started - I wear a 40DD, although a have a feeling it's not the right size.:dizzy: Ok, enough babbling, back to work.

Hello All!
WOW! This thread is really growing! WELCOME! :)
lexxy2, Welcome! Congratulations on taking control and losing 25 pounds! You CAN get though this Holiday without gaining, we ALL can together. We WILL make healthy choices and not binge! :)
As I was out and about yesterday I realized for the first time how GREAT I feel. I can actually say I was smiling and happy in bumper to bumper Christmas traffic. It feels so good not to be overstuffed, bloated and having the feelings of shame, guilt and despair from constant bingeing. I can't imagine what this Christmas would have been like had I not asked for help on the "3FC's board" and if Aphil had not answered by plea for help. Aphil, Thank you sooooo much!!! You are an Angel
Happy Holidays!

HI,
Lexxy I am so glad to meet you! We are close to the same age too-I am 26.
I know what you mean about being around the family-That is whay I am not going to expect any loss over the next week or so-Just try to be in control enough to stay the same.
Pilates is actually a very body toning and strengthening exercise-people think it and yoga is for wimps-but it is very hard to have the balance and form to do some of the poses and to hold them. They are just not very aerobic-but they will definitely improve your shape and make your body more toned. Way to go!
I am so happy-my husband came home with a nice chunk of change for his Christmas bonus yesterday. We are going to finish insulating the garage, get the Harley rebuilt from a softail to a hardtail, and spend the rest on things for the house-and maybe I will get a nice thing or two....;)
I tell you-I will be so glad to take the tree down-I am burning about a zillion calories a day running after my infant son getting him out of the tree and the presents, although I must admit I let him mess with the ones with my name on them a minute or so extra..."Honey,he got it open while I was in the bathroom":p
I am so bad...did I mention I got a new workout video for Christmas? ha ha
Take care,

hello, welcome all newbies, glad to have you here, the more , the merrier and it is great to have the support.
i am not as good as aphil and faith at answering posts, but i do read everyones progress and am here for support.
lexxy i am the same as you about the bras, but i too dont think that is the right size, aphil gave some great advice on the subject.
i have been really busy, as everyone else i am sure, but last night i let it get in the way of my healthy eating. i was getting so much done, that i negelcted to eat dinner, then when everything was done and dd, angelina was in bed, at 8:00 i was so hungry and tired that i went over ww points, grabbing pistachio peanuts, real mashed potatoes with butter and milk( i usually just make them with chicken broth) but they were already made from the family's dinner, chicken baked(not bad, but still ate too many of them)and a sugarless cupcake.
today, i will plan the days activites better and my food choices too.
hope everyone is having a great day.

Hey Ladies, thanks for the welcome!
I made it through the day without pigging out on all the candy and cookies at work - baby steps, right? Anyway, I was wondering where you all came up with your goal weights. I have used all sorts of online tools to calculate "ideal" weight to correspond with height, etc, but I think that's still pretty arbitrary. I've seen lots of people with a goal of 125 - of course I would LOVE to weigh that, but I think my bones weigh more :o

Hi,
I have been trying to post all morning! Darn site would not let me on for anything!
Well, ladies, I had a bad day yesterday. I had an uncontrollable craving for peanut butter-and a tablespoon of it would not do...
Aye,aye,aye...
I am human I guess, but I got up and did a good workout this morning and had a very light breakfast-trying to get back on track and not let one binge turn into a 3 day eating orgy-we all know how that can happen, don't we.
I am still going with my plan to enjoy the holidays, but not too much!;) I hope in a week and a half to have maintained my present weight-that is a feat in itself!
Lexxy-how I came up with my goal weight of 160 is this:
160 is not my lowest goal weight, but my first goal weight that will take me from being obese/overweight to the top of the healthy weight range for my height. When I am at 160 I wear about a size 13. When I reach that goal, I will make myself another goal. It is hard to say 120 or 130 for me, because I weight train so much that when I get down below 160 it gets a lot harder for me to lose pounds. At that point my goals are more by clothing size or body fat-I can go from 160 to 150 and drop 2 sizes if I work out enough because muscle weighs more than fat.
For example, before I had my kids, I worked out and resistance trained a lot and my mother and I both weighed about 135-I wore a 7 and she wore a 9-she hates to exercise!:o
So 160 is not really my goal weight, but my first goal.
Faith-thank you so much for the kind words-I hope you continue to think of me as your angel-I want to see you feel good about yourself and your life again. Even though we have never met, you are my friend and I care about your life and your weight. We are all in this TOGETHER!:D
Have a good day!

hi girls, just checking in. i got alot done today. glad you are back in control today aphil. yes i do know all to well , how one day of binging can lead to 3 . i am doing pretty good.
as far as my goal weight, i just went on one of the websites and filled in all my info, height weight and activity and it said i should weigh between 115 and 135 so i picked 125. i cant remember the website i was on. i will check and get back to you.

Hello ALL!
Is EVERYONE still in Control! Ya know, We CAN do this! YES WE CAN!
To help me or should I say keep me on track I decided to take my measurements and print them here for ALL to see. I knew it would be very depressing, but make be mad enough to tell myself this is the BIGGEST I'll ever be and to make me make these inches melt away as fast as I can!
Believe me, I WILL NOT be overindulging over the Holidays, not after seeing this! I can't believe I have gained so many inches since I did the BFL Challenge, much less how many since I weighed 120.
Here goes:
December 22, 2001
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 210
Chest: 44
Belly: 44.5
Waist: 37.5
Hips: 51
Thigh: 30
OUCH!!! Previously at 120 lbs my Butt was 33 inches and I WANT IT BACK!!! I've got 18 inches to melt from my behind and THAT is my New Years Resolution!
Oh, and Yes, I do expect each and everyone of you to do the same. :^:
Happy Holiday's!

HI,
Willbethin and Faith-great posts-it is so great to hear you. This will be short because I have to get to bed-big day tomorrow!
We had Christmas with my father today, my grandparents and Mom last night-and tomorrow my dh and I have to get some last minute things done before Christmas Eve for the rest of the family things.
Hope everyone is having a good time, but are staying aware of what we are eating and how much we are moving our bodies.

I'm ready to be done with the holidays, LOL. I haven't been really watching what I eat and I haven't been eating too terribly, but it's a little more and a little worse then normal. My body is totally rebelling on me. I am going to eat good tomorrow! I haven't been able to work out the past few days either and I have so much energy, I'm about to burst. My lovely dh was also very kind this year: the only sweets he gave me were some bubblegum balls instead of the massive quantities of candy that he used to give me! Woohoo! I got lots of nice body things and a gift certificate to a spa. I'm so looking forward to getting back on track. I feel like poo!

i had such a busy day yesterday and so many people were here. it looks like a tornado hit my house, so today i will be cleaning up christmas clutter and babysitting. this week will be tricky with excercising i have kids here from 7 in the morning till 5 at night. i will have to push myself to excercise at night. i usually do it in the morning while my dd angelina is at school. she is off of school till jan 2. hope we are all back on track.

HI,
I hope everyone had a good holiday too!
I did okay-I indulged in a few holiday favorites, but I did not eat until I burst-so that was good.
I did not exercise like I should've, but it is hard to do when you stay at my-inlaw's house-my sister in law still lives at home, they have a foreign exchange student, and my father-in-law who raises animals for 4-H was nursing a sick baby goat back to health in the basement where their extra tv and tredmill is! aaahhh!
I am home now and will get to work on my arms and buns in the morning!

Hope everyone's having a GREAT day!

HI,
Faith-I also got some exercise things for Christmas-a new viseo, wrist support gloves for my weight training, and a new sports bra.
I will be so glad for you when you hit 199!
Hey-if any of your families like to eat at Bob Evans-they have a fresh fruit plate that is only 250 calories. If you have 1 hot roll without butter that they bring out before the meal-it is only 150-so it is a nice meal choice if your family wants to eat there ansd you don't want to overdo it.
My daughter likes it there-kid's menu, crayons, the whole deal-so I looked the info up. It has melon, pineapple, grapes, strawberries, etc. on it all arranged pretty.
Well, I made it through all of the festivities this week maintaining-I have another one to go to this weekend-and then our annual New Years party-and then I am home free until Valentines Day!:dizzy:

HI,
Good morning all-I am doing well today!
We have the tree down and are doing some more work on the house this weekend-drywalling the garage.
I am glad everyone is in control.
Willbethin-how is the exercise going? I would really like to see you step it up or maybe lower your daily diet by 1 point-I want to see you losing again! You can do this-we all can do this-but it is going to take a lot of work! Isn't it amazing how easy it is to gain weight-just sit on your butt and eat chocolate all day? Then you have to watch everything and exercise a few hours a week to lose 1 or 2 pounds? Sheesh!:dizzy:
I hope everyone is doing great!

We're having some friends over and I'm going to have healthy snacks too (ie veggies, Baked Lay's). I'm excited about it. I've been doing lots of excercise today just running out to the garbage can and going up and down the stairs, LOL. All right. Good job on everyone else doing well too.

tupo_girl, Way to go!
willbethin, Congratulations on maintaining!
aphil, Wow, I'm jealous! You already have your tree down. Good job on maintaining at 194.
Have any of you ever used a Total Gym like on the infomercial? I bought the infomercial model at a Garage sale this morning. Love it! I think I can get a really good workout with it. I hate going to the gym in Jan & Feb, it is so packed with "New Years Resolution People" and when I did a BFL Challenge last year I practically moved in the gym. I really don't what to spend that much time at the gym the rest of my life. I know that I am going to have to make exercise a way of life and fit it into my schedule just like taking a bath or brushing my teeth. Just something we automatically do without giving it much thought. I'm going to try to get my workout in first thing each morning before my littleone awakes or at least before my morning shower. We'll see how it goes. So now I've got a Treadmill, TotalGym, Stationary Bike and Free Weights. NO EXCUSES! :D
Have a great evening ALL!

Thanks for the warm welcome ladies.
Today's been real good since tomorrow is my offday I'm feeling great. tupo I'm with you on the holiday thing. .....Just about had enough of it. I never like this time of year as much as I should. Or at least as much as everyone else. I think it's because I don't have any kids ;) That gift certificate to a spa sounds like fun, but it's sucks feeling like poo, I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Ok, that's it I'll see ya'll tomorrow.

Laidback,
You are so right about not liking this time of year as much without kids. After I hit my late teens it wasn't a big thrill anymore, but now my dh is just a big kid, and I have to make him a stocking, etc. and then my two young children-it is really fun. It is a lot of work for me, but I love to sneak surprises in on them all.
Faith, I am sorry about your little one getting stitches and going into the emergency room. I know just how you feel.
I had to have my son a month early, and when he was 5 weeks old he got pneumonia really bad all of a sudden, and his lungs started filling with fluid and we were visiting my parents an hour away. We were driving like maniacs trying to get him to the hospital in time, and I was in intensive care with him for a week. I was so scared. I was so stressed my hair started falling out, and I was nursing him, and my milk factory, so to speak:o , shut down completely and I had to go with formula. My whole body just pooed out.
He is great now, but I remember it like yesterday. It is so stressful when a little one gets hurt and they don't understand the doctors hurting them are really helping them. Kiss his boo-boo for me!:^:
We are cleaning the house and getting ready for our annual New Years party. I'll have a glass or two of champagne, but I am buying snacks like Doritos that I really don't like, but everyone else does, so I won't be in them all night.
I hope to come through to my weigh in after the holidays holding steady and ready to start dropping weight again.
Have a good one,
Aphil

12-30-2001, 10:22 PM
Faith-I am glad your menu is so diversified with fruit and veggies, and protein/nutrition bars instead of junk snacks. I do a lot of the same things you do. I usually have a nutrition bar, shake, or kashi cereal for my breakfasts-fruit or sugar free jello for snacks, and Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine for lunch on the weekdays. For dinner I make a variety of meals and eat what my family does-I just watch portion sizes like you do-and try to substitute whatever I can to make it healthier-like Pam spray instead of oil in the pan, etc.
My exercise is Mon.,Wed.,Fri. weight training and Tue.,Thur., and Saturday with an aerobic activity like Tae-Bo,my bike, walking,or aerobic tape-I like to mix that part up so I do not get bored.
Willbethin-I hope I can really help you with your eating out dillema. I ALWAYS have a non-calorie drink, like tea, coffee, water, or diet soda.
I know you count with the WW point system-so here are some point values for you if you do not know them already:
Applebee's-chk.stir fry 11 points-it is really good! Not sure of calories
Blackened chk. salad-7 points or 420 calories
Bob Evans-fruit plate-4 points or 250 calories
chk. stir fry-10 points or 1100 calories-the calories may seem high, but it is high fiber, and if you plan and eat fruit it is a nice reward.
Go to the websites of restaurants and get the calories from their products-if they are not listed you can amail them and get the information. Willbethin-put in ww points and the name of the place on your search and it will come up with links to that information.
In restaurants-here is what I do:
hot roll over a biscuit-and no butter
I look for chicken salads-and ask for a lowfat dressing-most places have 1 or 2 now.
Order grilled chicken or shrimp-and order a baked potato with the sour cream or butter on the side-they are both about 100 calories a Tablespoon-and if you put it on yourself, you can monitor how much there is-if they do it-you end up with 400 calories in butter!
Avoid fried things, breaded things, and things with lots of butter, oil,or salad dressing.
I hope this helps you!
Everyone have a good new year!

Hey Ladies,
It sounds like everyone did well over the holidays! I on the other hand am afraid of even getting on the scale to see what I have gained. I've pretty much just been eating whatever I can get my hands on for an entire week. I guess I'm just going to be like most everyone else and start my diet again on Jan. 1st!
It's just a little disappointing to realize that I can undo months of eating right in a matter of hours. Once I go off the wagon it's really hard for me to get back on.:nono: Food still has way more control over me than I would like to admit.
Well, hope everyone has a great New Year's Eve! I haven't decided on my resolutions yet (even though I never keep them) but does anyone else still make them?

Traditional New Year foods are also thought to bring luck. Many cultures believe that anything in the shape of a ring is good luck, because it symbolizes "coming full circle," completing a year's cycle. For that reason, the Dutch believe that eating donuts on New Year's Day will bring good fortune.
Many parts of the U.S. celebrate the new year by consuming black-eyed peas. These legumes are typically accompanied by either hog jowls or ham. Black-eyed peas and other legumes have been considered good luck in many cultures. The hog, and thus its meat, is considered lucky because it symbolizes prosperity. Cabbage is another "good luck" vegetable that is consumed on New Year's Day by many. Cabbage leaves are also considered a sign of prosperity, being representative of paper currency. In some regions, rice is a lucky food that is eaten on New Year's Day.

A New Day
This is the beginning of a new day.
I have been given this day to use as I will.
I can waste it, or use it.
I can make it a day long to be remembered for its joy, its beauty and its achievements, or it can be filled with pettiness. What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes this day will be gone forever, but I shall hold something which I have traded for it.
It may be no more than a memory, but if it is a worthy one I shall not regret the price.
I want it to be gain not loss, good not evil, success not failure.

Happy New Year! I'm ready to get back on track too.
Lexxy: It sounds like we had a similar week! I jammed a toe plus I think I got some food poisoning too.
I wrote down everything I ate today and drank tons and tons of water. I'm still not feeling quite up to par but I'm doing a lot better than I was. I'm actually looking forward to my annual checkup!

Happy New Year everyone!
it is about 5:30 am, and I am up and ready for my workout. I am going to be doing full body strength training today-woo-hoo!
Faith-your choice of donut is so funny-a glazed yeast Krispy Kreme is just what I have when I need one too-they have the least calories-if that is not in your calorie books girls, jot that one down!
Willbethin-maybe going back to meetings will be the jumpstart you need-having other people see your weight also may want you to keep it moving a bit more.
I have made some resolutions for us all:
1.This year I will exercise at least 5 days a week-my diet will make me smaller, but nothing else will get rid of that jiggle.
2.I will drink lots of water.
3.I will take 2 minutes to really think before I put something into my mouth-am I hungry or just want the taste? How will I feel after I eat this? Will I be dissapointed with myself?
4.I will place an unflattering picture of myself on the fridge and in the inside door of the junk cabinet.
5.I will not let myself be sabatoged by friends or family-one more treat will hurt me.
6.I will treat myself like a queen-get my hair done, paint my toenails-we are all queens, and the people in our lives are lucky to have us.
7.I will find hobbies to do instead of eat and sit on the couch-even if it is just needlework or housecleaning.
8.I will do this for myself-not for my husband or boyfriend.
9.I will make good choices at the market.
10.I will try a new food, recipe,or exercise each week-nothing poos out a diet regime quicker than boredom.
Have a good one,
Aphil

This is my favorite of what you jotted down :) My other favorite is that queen business. You are so completely right. We always need to treat ourselves well. It's not just when we're slim and trim we deserve this, but everyday.
My person goals for 2k2, is not to make any that way I know I won't break'em ;) but honestly I have only 2. Don't be so hard on myself and keep exercising consistantly. I've been going strong for six months have to refresh my spirit everyday. And speaking of days......my other goal is to handle each day as it comes and not look so far into the future...wait, that's 3 goals isn't it :dizzy:
Ok, I'm off to walk on my treadmill.

Hello,
Way to go on the resolutions aphil, those are some great challenges. I hate to say it, but I'm still not back on track with my eating. On the plus side however, my friend has convinced me to train with her to run the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in the beginning of April. Since I don't even think I could run a half-mile at this point, I have a lot of working out ahead of me! :dizzy:

Hello ALL! :)
lexxy2, tupo_girl ~ How are the toes & food poisoning ???
Hope things are better now for the both of you.
willbethin - How did the ww meeting go tonight? Hope that's what you need to get and keep you on the right track. :)
 aphil, Great resolutions!
My main resolutions are: (1) To get myself in shape enough to not want to hide and run the other direction when I see someone that hasn't seen me since I gained this weight and (2) Be able to have a family portrait made I'm not ashamed of.
My LIFE resolution is to not ever let myself get in this shape again! :nono:
I didn't get off track through the holiday's so all is well in the eating & exercise department here, thank goodness. I finally feel like I'm the one in control and not the food. I pray this feeling lasts. Still loving my new toys; treadmill & total gym. :D
Hope everyone is back on track or at least getting close.

Lexxy-what do you think is stopping you from being on track with your eating? Are you just not ready to commit?
The first day is always the hardest for me-you need to take that first day each hour at a time just like an alcaholic. Most of us are addicted to food-Willbethin-you may find this useful also.
Take it one meal at a time-and get through that first day-then do the same thing until it gets easier.
We find that when New Years rolls around we say-I am going to lose 50 pounds-then we have no plan of action and find we have a huge goal and no way of beginning to take the steps to get there.
One day at a time is all you can do-do not try to give yourself a time limit on when to lose a huge amount of weight by-that can be frustrating and give you the feeling that you can't accomplish it so you may as well quit...
Compliment yourself on each right choice you make-each day you stay on track-and for each and every workout you do-which should be many-
The training for the marathon is great-I have done this for a bikeathon and go slow-but train every day a little farther. If you are doing okay breathing wise and not getting side pains-just your muscles fatigue very soon I suggest maybe taking creatine an hour before your runs-it is really the only supplement I take-before my weight training. It is not a steroid and you do not need to take it like it says on the cannister-I take a half dose-2 1/2 grams an hour before each workout. All it does is delay the fatiguing of the muscles-it will not make you larger or anything. It is just good for giving you more endurance when doing heavy training. There are lots of websites you can read about it in-I use the powder over the liquid or flavored-it is cheaper and you can mix it with any liquid-you just need to drink it within 10 minutes of mixing. EAS brand is good. You also should drink a lot of water while taking this also.
Faith-I am so proud that you are doing so well and that you are really together with your workouts-they are so important-as or more than what you are eating. You go girl!
I hope everyone is doing well-I am having a good morning so far. Take care.

HI,
Willbethin-glad to know someone is up and adam early as often as I am-ha ha
Doing great-tried the tae bo advanced workout yesterday-thought I was going to have a heart attack-he he. I usually do the regular one-I 'll have to work up to that one. I don't care much for my cardio workouts anyway-even though I make myself do them. I am in love with resistance training though...I look forward to those days-today is one of them!
Hope everyone is doing well too-I plan on having a good day.

Hi ladies!
i was hopping to join your "group" because i am trying to lose about 50 pounds by summber...thats 6 months...i know i can do it... ive tried in the past to stick to new diets and have failed but this time im serious about it. im only 14 and i know i should be in the teens forum but you guys seem so knowledgeable and i think i can really learn and do well with your help! I have a friend doing this with me and shes great to have along with me. She encourages me to work out and keeps me going when i am having trouble and i try to do the same for her. On monday we are trying this new drink, its pretty much a cleansing and renewing thing to get you going but you can supposedly lose up to 10 pounds just by doing this! What it is, is one cup of non fat vanilla yogurt, one cup of cranberry juice, one cup of grapejuice, one cup of soymilk, and half a teaspoon of wheat germ. You blen these ingredients together and then drink the shake throughout the day. You have to make a batch for both days...so two batchs! The catch is you cant eat or drink anything but the shake and water all day! and ONLY DO THIS FOR 2 DAYS! if you do it more it can become dangerous! You must wait at LEAST 3 weeks before doing it again if you plan on that. Well i just thought that you guys might be interested in it.....its out of a certified book and everything so its definatly legit. Me and my friends are doing it Monday and Tuesday so anyone who wants to join in leave me a message! and everyone else wish me luck! well have a great day everyone...and remember: the task ahead of us is never as big as the power behind us!

Getting There: you'll have to let us know how the 2 day drink goes. I've read about it and have the recipe here. 10 pounds is all I have left to go for pre baby weight so I've thought of doing it. Right now, I'm using a little booklet that I got at the grocery store last night. It has lists for every day for a month of what you're supposed to eat healthily and some excercises. I'm really excited about it. Started working out again this week and getting back some tone and definition. It feels good!
Have a great day.

Well just for the record, you should avoid working at a donut shop when you are on a diet! i have to look at them all day and give them to other people! but its not so hard! i resist the temtation! well anyway.....i hope to hear from you all soon! keep it up ladies!

Kayla,
I am glad you have joined our group-I want you to know that I have watched my weight since high school.
I am concerned for you and your friend doing the two day drink thing-I really do not reccomend it.
You probably didn't put 10 pounds on in 2 days, so you cannot expect to take it off in 2. You will lose, but it will be water weight and weight from your bowels from going to the bathroom and not eating. It is high in sugar and does not have much protein, so you may get dizzy and have headaches from the blood sugar changes.
I think after the first day you will see what I mean.
I hope you can commit to doing it the right way-we can really help you here. You do not have to give up all foods that you love-you can still have pizza or a donut now and thenand still lose weight-it just takes a lot of right choices and exercise.
Losing weight is one of the hardest things you can do-especially to keep it off for life.
I reccommend you get a book at the bookstore which lists the calories of all kinds of foods, and you can also go to Subway,Pizza Hut, and some other restaurants websites and get the calorie info there-so you know what you can eat when you have to go out somewhere.
Let me know how much you weigh and what your height is and I can help you with how many calories to eat. You should be aiming to lose about 2 pounds a week.
To all you other ladies-hope you are doing well and on track-let's show Kayla the way.

Hey everyone!
Thanks for all your inquiries! I'm a bit peeved because I sign up for email updates to the thread but never get them - so I forget to come back for a few days.
Anyway, My toes are still pretty bruised and now I think I may have messed up my ankle when I banged up my foot because it really started throbbing yesterday. I sprained it really badly about 2 years ago and it took about a week before the pain and swelling set in. So keep your fingers crossed, I was supposed to start my running today, but I'm going to put it off for a couple days and hope this heals up. It's just such a bummer because I really wanted to get things going.
I am however getting back with my eating plan. I've vowed to log in all my food into dietwatch, even if I go overboard sometimes. I definitely have the attitude that if I've already blown it, might as well continue and eat everything in sight. I know better than to do that, but that little voice of readon in my brain switches off once the sugar and fat hits my stomach....must be a direct connection there!
So far today I had some kashi with blueberries, about a half cup of tortellini and some wheat thins. I'm really in a snacking mood so I'll probably make some air-popped pocorn in a little while. I ususally spray it with "I can't believe it's not butter" spray and sprinkle on some popcorn salts
Kayla, welcome! I was also overweight when I was a teenager, so I know how you feel. I agree with Aphil though - it is very tempting to think you can lose 10 lbs in 2 days, but it will just be water weight that will come right back on!
Ok, I promise I'll be checking in more frequently - I gained at least 4 lbs over the holidays so I'm definitely going to need the support!

lexxy2
01-06-2002, 06:38 PM
Kayla,
Dietwatch.com is a website similar to eDiets.com - a place that will give you meal plans and a place to log in a food diary, etc. It used to be a free site, but now they charge a monthly fee. I got used to using their nutiritional diary to log in what I eat every day so I decided to pay the fee. The diary tracks all of my nutritional values and lets me know if I need to eat more protien, fiber, etc. You can do the same kind of thing at fitday.com which is a free site, or just track what you eat in a notebook. Even if you don't write down the calories at first, logging what you eat will make you more concious of what goes into your mouth!

Can I join your group? I go between weight watchers and using dietpower. I believe they are the same just different ways of tracking and when I get tired on one I will do the the other.
I need to lose 30 lbs and I am such a slow loser that i get easily discouraged.
I am determined to make it this time though.

Hi there! New to this thread, but not to the site. I'm 19, and I weigh 150, down from a high of 180. I lost all the other weight in high school, and was down to 145 when I started college last fall. I kept it off really well, since I was super unhappy at my school and the only thing I could do to keep myself from going completely crazy was hit the gym every morning. I have since transferred schools and am much happier overall, but the gym is now about a mile away, so I have not been so good about weights. Anyway, this summer, I gained a few pounds back, and I have gained a few more over christmass, so I am up to 150. Not cool at all! I'm really worried that this may be the beginning of a trend, and I do NOT want to wake up one morning and find myself back up at 180! So, my goal is to get to somewhere between 140 and 145, and to get back into serious exercise and healthier eating. The only way I have been able to lose weight is to just count calories and watch portions and cut down on the junk. But I really need some support to do these last 5-10 pounds. So, here is my plan:
Keep calories in the 1500-1800 a day range
Do a 40 minute walk/run 3 days a week (monday, wednesday, friday), and weights on tuesdays and thursdays. Since I'm very bad about going to the gym, I got myself a pair of 5 lb weights over break to start off with. When I start having to use heavier stuff, I'll tackle the gym, but I don't want to start off too ambitious. Here I go!

i am not putting down your plan for the drink, we have all tried these things. i dont recommend them, but i remember when i was young and i did what i wanted anyway. i am only 36 now, but i have done so many things to lose weight, and your metabolism could really get messed up by losing weight on these fad diet things. so if you do try it i wish you luck . let me know how it is going. and we are here for you.
moonbeam, sounds like you have a good healthy plan, go for it. this is a great support system.

good morning everyone,
well yesterday went pretty good. I weighed in today i lost 2.5 lbs.
I should have told you what diet power is -- it is just a program on your computer where you log in your food and it keeps track of your calories and nutrients. It has a place where you weigh in ,keep weight loss goals. it tells you what you want to weigh and if your goals are sensible, tracks exericse and has a food log. I go back and worth between this is ww -- they are both pretty much the same just different ways of tracking your food.

Cat,
Your calories and exercise sound really good. I welcome all of you newbies!
kayla-try going to Slim-Fast.com and using their diary to put in what you eat each day-its free on their site. You can ignore all the product information, and just use the food diary-I do.:D
Well guys, I have been eating pretty healthy, and last night my husband had a funnel cake and I took a couple bites. It was really greasy and I was so sick afterward. About an hour later I was really sick...That will teach me huh? he he
Kayla-since you are so young-I don't really reccomend you limit your calories too much, but try to stay away from soda and sugary drinks-You can have a chewy granola bar and an apple for the calories in a Mountain Dew-and if you drink a lot of those drinks it can really add up.
Try to eat more fruits and veggies-and eat, but try not to have seconds at dinner. Portion size is the key-a slice of pizza is fine, but not 4 of them.
Lexxy-I know what you mean about the email notification not always working-I have that same prob-aahh!!
And I am glad to see I am not the only one who likes Kashi-have you tried the Kashi GoLean crunch?
Faith and Willbethin-hope you are doing well.
Moonbeam-nice to meet you-Lexxy and I are pretty close to your age. Hope we can help you here!

Hi, all!
May I join your thread? You have much wisdom and health going on in here.
I use a program called "The Business Plan for the Body" which advocates counting calories and exercise, and also use a couple of principles outlined in Deepak Chopra's "Perfect Weight".
My daily calorie intake is 1,500-1,800. I exercise for five hours per week.
I have read every post on this thread and it seems to be what I'm looking for and can also give support to in return.

Hi all!
Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I haven't counted calories in years, so as the skunk said when the wind changed, "it all comes back to me now!" :D
I already know of several of you from other threads. seems like I've followed you all over here.
I'd like to post my food today.
1. 1 cup uncooked oatmeal, 1/2 cup soymilk (200 cals)
2. 1 100-calorie yogurt, 1 pc fruit (200 cals)
3. 6 ounces baked chicken, big salad with fat-free dressing, 1 cup rice (500 cals)
4. 1 100-calorie yogurt, 1 cup vegetables (200 cals)
5. Stir-fried veggies in Pam with 6 ounces chicken or shrimp (300 cals)
6. 1/2 cup fat-free cottage cheese, 1 piece fruit (200 cals)
Right about 1,600 calories. I do really well when I eat my biggest meal at lunch instead of dinner.
For exercise today, I have Richard Simmons' Tonin' Uptown and Downtown.
Thanks again!

Hey all! First day has gone pretty well so far. I did my walk/run this afternoon, and it was all walk, since we had a foot of snow last week and it is kind of slick and generally not good for running. It's sort of like walking at the beach though, which I hear really tones your thighs. Hopefully it will be melted enough by wednesday for a little running mixed in. I also walked to the bookstore, which is a little over a mile, and walking back with all my textbooks for this semester should count for something, right?:D Classes start tomorrow, so lots of wandering around campus in store. And I went and did my grocery shopping for the week, lots of fruits and vegetables and fun stuff like that.
Kayla- I guess you've heard it from pretty much everyone else, but the diet drink thing does not sound like such a great idea. Although I guess if it is only for two days and you plan to do healthy eating afterwards it isn't the end of the world. I do think the occaisional fast kind of helps to clean you out, but it's not something to get into a habit of doing regularly. That said, good luck with your weight loss! I took off 35 pounds while I was in high school, so I think I'm something of an expert on dieting without spending a whole lot of money or freaking your parents out. Any questions, feel free to ask!
And now I'm going to go do some knitting! I took it up about a month ago, and it's actually really great for keeping you from mindless snacking, since you have to use both hands to do it:dizzy:

Hey everyone,
I am kind of in a bad mood today. School really sucks...the guys in most of my classes are SOOOO mean. like honestly..i try to be soooo nice to everyone and in return all i get is them calling me fat and ugly. and it makes me get depressed and that makes me want to eat. I mean.....they have driven me to the point of almost killing myself (earlier this year) and to becoming bulimic......i just finally got over my bulimia two months ago......but its not easy and everytime i hear them it pushes me farther and farther.....i mean...most people think that big people cant have eating disorders...but i had bulimia...and i started to lose weight but then i gained it all back and now i want to lose it a healthy way.......
anyways...im sure you all dont want to hear about that! well today i went to the gym for a bit and did some weights but i was kinda clueless cause ive never really done weights before so i have a meeting with the trainer on wednesday because tuesdays i do cardio.

WOW! Hi to all the newbies! I'm so glad to see you here. I did pretty good today except for some small chocolates and low fat fro yogurt here and there today. I think AF is on the way, and not that this is an excuse, but I function a little better with chocolate! My sister had to go to the ER last night (she's ok, just has a stuck neck) so she's been staying here. I love it! Too bad she's not up to par. On the other hand, when she is all good, she doesn't sit still!
Getting There: Please don't hesitate to tell us what's going on. I think it will help us give advice better if we know your situation. I'm so glad you're here!
I really like the plan I'm doing now. I've discovered some really yummy fish and I get quite full on the 5 veggies and 4 fruits a day!
I think the tea is also really helping me with water weight right now. I had a good workout today and am looking forward to it again tomorrow.
Kmart has workout clothes for $4 right now!! They say $5 on the sign, but mine scanned at 4! Good deal.

Hi everyone, may I join in? I need to loose about 60 pounds and would love to get and give some support! I have been trying to loose weight and get healthy for about 10 years now. I am going to be 40 in February and want to get in shape!!! I am a stay home mom of 3 and have found it especially hard to stick to any program since I have not been working outside the home. Too much snacking and polishing off not only my meals but my kids leftovers as well! Yikes! I need to get in control. I have lost weight before counting calories and fat grams. Last year I joined WW and really liked the points idea so I'm thinking of doing a combo of both. I bought the Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds tapes and plan to start doing them along with some light weights. I think the support is what I have been lacking and that is why I haven't been able to stay on a program in so long. I am hoping that by joining all of you we can encourage each other! Would love to get rid of this extra weight by mid summer! I know I will feel so much better.

Hey all! Just finished with my hand weights for today! I'm very pleased with myself:D Usually don't have too much trouble doing cardio, but remembering to do the weights is a big challenge. I have ten moves I doing, one set of 10 reps on each move. Next week I will bump it up to two sets, I think. I wish I had never stopped, I was really starting to look fabulous. Oh well, no use crying over spilt milk I guess, just have to pull myself together and get with it again.
Wondering if anyone has any advice for me on this... I ate breakfast about an hour ago, and I am starving! I thought I ate a pretty good breakfast- 2 slices whole wheat toast with hummus, 2 oranges, and a glass of soymilk- a little shy of 450 calories. Seemed like a good meal- complex carbs, fruit, protein, a little fat. This happens to me a lot. I had planned on eating a midmorning snack of a piece of fruit or something like that, but I don't want to be eating it at 9 am when breakfast was at 8! Help!
Welcome lisaree! If you're determined enough, you can lose the weight!
Tupo- Sorry about your sister. Awesome deal on the workout clothes though. I really need to find myself some warm running clothes. My pyjamas just aren't quite cutting it. Is the plan you're doing that prevention diet? I tried that a couple years ago. Didn't stick with it, but I did incorporate some of the stuff into my diet permanently, like the 4 fruits/5 veg a day, which I think has made me much healthier! Good luck with it!
Kayla- I know it sounds cliche, but just ignore the guys at school. They're just trying to make themselves feel better by cutting you down. They'll get better eventually (at least I think they will....sometimes I have to wonder about the guys at school here. Is there any hope?!?!?!)
Ok, have to walk to the post office and mail some letters! Talk to you ladies later!

Hi all!
For anyone looking for a calorie-counting program on the web that's free, check out http://www.calorieking.com
There are good articles and they design a program for you, have checkin days once a week, and it looks pretty good. They also have workout programs custom-tailored to your needs.
I use The Business Plan for the Body and am happy with it; I found this new website by searching for low-calorie recipes.
I, too, am impressed with how many of us are actually exercising. If I didn't work out, by the time I lost my flab I would look like a collapsed mushroom cap
Crank it up!

Hi all,
moonbeam-try to eat more of a half protein/half carb breakfast like a touch of peanut butter on toast, or kashi creeal and milk for breakfast. You had a little protein there, but it was overpowered by all the carb-save the fruit for your snack-this may help. You sound like you have a bit of blood sugar fluctuations like I do.
Kayla/gettin there-I know it hurts now-but those people at school don't mean a thing. I was a cheerleader with a bunch of girls on the squad who were "perfect" and they all hated me. I had the athletic ability, but I wasn't a size 2-I was called thunder thighs, etc. I even had to keep all my uniforms in the car because they would change what they were wearing and try to emberass me so I wouldn't get dressed until right before the game. When I turned 21 I went to a club-and saw one of those girls-and she was about 30 pounds heavier than I was!:D I am 26-and the girl voted most popular still works at Arby's! It makes me feel really good-even though it shouldn't...high school is a very short period of time in your life. Ignore the people who don't like you for whatever reason-and concentrate on yourself and the friends you do have. If they are mean-their day will come-beleive me...
Faith-I knew you weren't bailing on us! Enjoy the timw with your husband.
Willbethin-I am glad to see this thread jumping also-this is great to have so many people wanting to join us!
Lisaree-welcome-glad to have you! I reccommend using the calorie or point system-not both. It is pretty much doing the same thing twice-just do whatever is easier to keep track of for you!
Tupo-I too am a chocolate addict-and I do keep it in my plan-I usually have a Slim-Fast snack bar-they are really good-and they have a lot of nutrients-for 120 or 130 calories. If nothing but the best will do-I have 1 or 2 Hershey kisses and suck on them to make them last for about 50 calories. I try not to do this every day, but if I do-I keep it within my calorie limits.
Waterbaby-I liked the mushroom analogy...he he he...
Have a good one girls!

Hey everyone!
Look what I get for not checking the site everyday! I only have a couple mins. so I'll have to come back and write more later - and re-read all these new posts. Welcome to all the newbies :D
My ankle is still throbbing but luckily my training is being pushed back yet again, so I PRAY it will just heal already. I've done ok with my eating so far today - natural peanut butter on mulitgran bread for breakfast, some breadstick nuggets for a snack and I'm eating grapefruit for lunch - plus more breadsticks. I am way broke now after Xmas and am trying to start eating all that food in my cupboard that I never really want, so my meals may start to get a little wacky :dizzy: I love these little face things!
Aphil, I LOVE Kashi Go Lean crunch, but I try not to get it too often because it has more calories that the regular Kashi or even Kashi Go Lean...maybe more sugar too? I remember it being fairly sweet. Kayla, I've been there too with the name calling in high school, etc. It doesn't help that I was also 5'10 and taller than most of the guys. I don't remember seeing you post your height/weight. I know I would have been MORTIFIED if anyone had known how much I wieghed in high school, but no one here will judge you, just trying to get a feel for your situation.
Moonbeam, I wish I were 19 again! I have that same problem with eating a lot for breakfast and then being hungry again in an hour. What helps me sometimes is to just chug a ton of water before I wat anything and then once I feel hungry. I bring a 64oz bottle with me everyday to work. I've also found that the high-fiber bread and peanut butter also keeps me filled up more than anything else. I know a lot of people thing PB is a no-no, but it's actually a great health food - just make sure you get the natural kind - regular has all sorts of trans-fatty acids in it. Bad news.
Ok, gotta run
Lexxy

01-08-2002, 05:02 PM
HI,
Lexxy-the GoLean crunch is a bit sweeter-but with honey not sugar. Most of your high fiber cereals like Grape-Nuts,Raisin Bran, and Mini Wheats are higher in calories because of the straight fiber-so you are actually not "keeping them all" if you know what I mean. ha ha
It is very filling-and I would rather have that than puffed rice or something like that and then be starving and want to snack soon after eating it.
Today hasn't been real good for me-my son was up all night, my daughter has been queen of whiners, and I feel like poo-but my eating has been on track. At least one thing is right.

Hello ladies!
well im finally done with the drink! and thank god! it was killing me...after i was finished i had some low fat yogurt with some apples and bananas....later i had a fruit crissont and a sandwich for supper........ so i dont think i did TOOO awful bad today! i accidently screwed up timing so i couldnt make it to my kickboxing class tonight but im going to just either do some tae bo or just some sit ups and stuff like that......last night i made it to fifty situps!!!!! before i could only do twenty! i rewarded myself with a can of iced tea!(today) anyways! aphil! It makes me feel alot better to know that there are others that have been in the same situation as me......people are mean...theres no way about it.....but i decided that i am going to push away their comments and keep working on feeling good about myself! i find that when i finish working out im always in a great mood and alot less stressed! my meeting with my trainer is tommorrow night so ill be
doing alot more weights...and my best friends bro said hed help hit the gym with me too sometimes.....

HI,
Kayla-I amo glad you are exercising a lot. It is a real good thing. No matter how bad you feel, it makes you feel better after you do it.
Wow! 5'11"! My stepmom and stepsister are tall like that-you're lucky-when you lose your weight you will be nice and tall and slender. I am glad you want to lose about 50 pounds and are not trying to get down to 110 pounds or something like that. My stepmother weighs 170 and since she is 5'11" she is reed thin. With all the exercise you're doing, you can just kick those guys butts who are mean to you! just joking!:p
Today is good so far-eating went well yesterday-getting ready to work out-and had the surprise of going in my baby son's room and found him standing holding the rail in his crib for the first time! He is almost 9 months old-and it seems like I just brought him home.
I went to the Bath and Body Works last night to reward myself for doing well-and I kept picking up this cucumber eye gel-andputting it back down because it was $12-and then I was looking in the clearance from Christmas and they had a pack that had a bunch of products in it and the eye gel I wanted for only $20-so I got it. It's weird-I;ll buy my kids baby Gap and Old Navy, and my husband Harley stuff out the wazoo-but I always feel sortof guilty getting frivilous things for myself-so far all of my rewards for doing well have been pretty practical. I need to get out of that habit. I am worth it!
Well-gotta get my daughter breakfast-have a good one everybody-WE CAN DO IT!!!!!

aphil, you are doing great!!! that is so cute , about your baby boy. i can remember that day in my daughters life , like it was yesterday. she just turned six and my hubby doesnt want another child. i miss the baby days so much. i really want another one. i am doing good, my ww meeting is tonight. i will let you know how i do tomorrow morning for my first week back on ww. and i have to tell you it was pms all week, and the only time i gave in to my cravings was yesterday, not bad compared to what i would have eaten when i use to use pms to binge all week. i got my tom today, so i am hoping i am not retaining any water. i think i did really good all week.

Willbethin I am glad you are doing well. I think maybe the structure of the meetings will motivate you a bit more. I always retain water and have a 1-2 pound gain my first couple days of aunt Flo-so if you weigh in the same keep that in mind-if you stick with it you will be dropping soon!
I am enjoying the baby days-but look on the bright side of not having any more-you can go and do more-don't have to pay for special food and diapers-and you get to sleep every night!:)
I love them-but they make me crazy!

Hi Everyone. Aphil thanks for inviting me over to this thread. I used to belong to WW in 2000/2001 but I stopped going in 5/2001. I had lost 65 lbs while going to WW now I have gained back 30 lbs. I started walking on my treadmill again. I do good in the mornings counting points but come afternoon time when the house is empty and my hands are not busy they always seem to find food in them:) Anyone have any suggestions? I am a mother of 5 children. My oldest is 21, 19, 16, 12 and 9. so they are either working or in school. In the morning I am busy picking up the house and running errands. Come afternoon time is when my problem starts. I think I am eating out of boredom.

This is for Gettingthere,
I can relate so well to what you are going through in high school. The kids at my school even had a song about me. I would just laugh right along with them, but inside my heart was breaking.
I just wanted to share this quote with you and tell you to hang in there. "A strong positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success" --Dr. Joyce Brothers

Feelijngbluelately,
Afternoons is when I really have to watch it also-do you knit, chrochet,or anything that can keep your hands busy? If I stay busy I can avoid boredome eating.
I also reccommend sugar free or diet hot cocoa-it makes you feel full and takes a while to drink-so it kindof cures that bored eating thing a bit and for about 20-25 calories.
If you must eat-try something that takes a long time-like an orange-you ahve to peel it, section it,etc. You can down 3 Snickers in the time it takes to do all that.:)
I am glad you came to the thread. We are so glad to have you.Stay on that treadmill and the weight you gained will start to go away...

Hi, Just came up from downstairs working out with my 9 year old. She was walking on the treadmill and then she has this toy that is called a skip it, so we started taking turns trying to see who could skip more times than the other. Boy am I out of breath and out of shape LOL .
Aphil = thanks for the tip. I do like to do cross stitching and I like to read. I think I better stick with cross stitching right now it is to hard to eat and cross stitch at the same time :)
Every once in a while we do a breakfast for dinner as a change of pace. So tonight we had pancakes and I had blueberry pancakes does any have any ideas on how to enjoy blueberry pancakes but still keep it light?

hello all! So, I am doing really really well on the exercise, but eating is a definite struggle. I have decided that from now on, if I am in the house and I feel like eating, I am going to just leave the house for a few minutes and take a quick walk. I figure this should work well during the day, now I need to figure something out for at night! Knitting, I guess. But I really feel I need to do something that gets me away from the food. Maybe I will come here and read everything you guys have written and get a shot of motivation. I hope so! I seriously need to get this eating thing under control! Sounds like you are all doing pretty well though. Kayla, you have to tell us all about how the session with the trainer went! And now I am going to go read a little of this super Isabel Allende book I got yesterday. Anybody else like her?

I met with the trainer and it went fabulous! i did my first night on my new program tonight and it is so awesoem! i LOVE doing weights...ive never done them before but i just love it! people think that im crazy but i love it!
Moonbeam! do you know of any clubs or groups that you would like to join? most things like that are in the evening adn that would get you out of the house a couple nights a week! and if not try doing anything that you really have to concentrate on...like YOGA! or anything...a puzzle, a scrapbook, anything that can keep you occupied and that you need to think for!
but anyways...im going to hit the sack early cause im wasted from my workout! but ill talk to you all later!

Thanks for all the nice posts!
Maybe my diet is called 'The Prevention Diet', I'm not sure.
Tonight was kind of rough. My Valentine cards were not going as planned, then I decided to try and do the bills after that! Ack. That still kind of influences my eating but mostly I think I got so upset because I hadn't eaten in awhile. I think I've been going over the 100 calorie cheat, but I'm pretty active and I can still see that my body is a little less every day. While we watched a movie tonight, I kept wanting to eat more candy, but I made myself eat a giant green pepper:). It was good and I felt better about myself.
The good thing about eating this way, is that my PMS is not affecting me that bad this time, YAY!!! I'm a little moody but I am normally:).
Enough of me rambling.

Pamela

Hi, all!
Having a good Friday. My Pants-O-Meter is telling me that I have a vacancy in the back and some on the waistband. I'm having a little less "rope burn" around the middle
Kayla, a good trainer is hard to find -- if you have a good one, you are lucky! Glad your workouts are going so well. More oxygen to the muscles mean they will burn more calories. More oxygen to the brain means better moods! Keep up the good work!
Pamela, I'm sorry you're having a bit of a struggle. I take classes online that are free to learn new things. Keeps my mind off food. With TV, there are so many commercials for food and restaurants that it is very hard to watch sometimes. That's why I use the 'net more often. Hang on! It will get easier!
Hope all of you have a fab-o Friday!

HI,
Kayla-I am glad you have fallen in love with weight training! That is absolutely my favorite! Everyone else knows on the thread-but my stepfather is a former bodybuilder-and I love it just as much as he does. Just remember not to train a body part more often than every other day except for abs-and you will be fine.
Pamela-glad your pms is alleviated. I find that doing pilates or light yoga stratched also help during that time.
Feelingblue-I posted earlier about the pancakes-but when the forum was down yesterday it dissappeared...try using light syrup and measuring out how much you use-and if you make the batter from scratch-add up all the calories of everything you use in the recipe and divide it by the number of pancakes or pieces a recipe makes. This is how I cook and eat the same dinner as my family. ;)
Moonbeam-as far as reading goes I like the twisted demented type of novels-like Stephen King and Thomas Harris-I also read a lot of mythology, medieval type literature, and fantasy. My husband is into the same stuff. We actually went and saw Lord of the Rings a couple weeks ago after reading the novels as children! We're a couple of kids. I'm a bit demented when it comes to reading...he he...
I also read a lot of crafty type books like Martha Stewart and books on herbal remedies, making natural soaps, perfume oils,etc...
Well-I better be going-the kids want lunch and I am a bit under the weather today-tonsils again...I never had them taken out as a child and I wished I would have...but I digress....
Have a good one.

Claire, Thanks for the tip!! I'm actually looking to take some scrapbooking classes soon along as going to all the rubber stamp/scrapbook expos in the area. It will get me out of the house too.
I didn't lose any pounds this week but my pants aren't as tight and more of the lines are coming off my face. I feel good at this weight and even though I'm still slightly overweight at least I don't have the weight diabetes risk anymore. My bmi is still about .4 higher than it should be. I'm healthy though and I feel good.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Hi Everyone, Well last night was not such a good night because my husband and I went out to dinner with out the kids for a change. It was nice just the two of us. But eating wise not so good. I had a frozen mudslide that just blew it for my points for the day. I knew we were going out so I had for breakfast just half of a bagel with that blueberry brommel and brown spread. I didn't eat anything for lunch.
This morning I walked on the treadmill for 2.25 miles. Trying:) My hardest time if I skip lunch then I get so hungry that anything is up for grabs and I just stop counting points. I think what I am going to have to do is take something for a snack in the car with me if I have errands to run and won't have time for lunch.
Have a great night.

I'm starting to feel like a broken record....I'll get back on track tomorrow. I just spent the afternoon eating everything in sight and now I'm sitting here wondering what that accomplished besides making me feel like I just poured grease down my throat. I know relapses happen, but there was really no reason for this.
Well, like I said - broken record, but I will be back on track tomorrow. Has anyone here heard of the Discovery Health Channel Body Challenge? Basically it's a tv show that covers 6 people competing for 16 weeks to lose body fat and get in shape, etc. The challenge is touring around some major cities and will be at a mall near me tomorrow. They are giving away free goodies and doing body fat analysis, etc. so I really hope I can get up the courage to go there by myself and get my body fat tested. Normally I'd make a friend go with me but they are all out of town :( Tomorrow is also my first day of training it will be a good re-starting point for good eating.
Ok, going out drinking now - I know, bad girl!

Hi There~
I am new to 3FC, I joined on 1/10/02. It took me a couple days just to read all the posts on this thread! Wow! You guys are great!:D
I am 5'7" and really don't know my exact weight, yeah I know how is that possible! I do not own a scale, but one is on the way! I way around 195-200, I may be surprised when I actually weigh myself, I'll let you know!
Anyway, I am a stay at home mom of 3, atleast for the last 2 years. Two years ago this March (3 days before my birthday:mad: ) I was hit by a drunk driver. I was at a red light and she hit me from behind doing about 45mph!!! I was out of work for about 12 weeks and tried to go back but had problems with dizziness and headaches...... I left my position and decided to stay home. Needless to say, I have gained @ 40+ pounds!
I was at a really good point in my life, I weighed @ 140 and felt and looked good, now I feel like poo and need to do something!! I came across this site looking for a diet plan online and think this is for me! I want to get back to where I was 2 years ago!!
Faith, you have really inspired me, your losing quickly! Which is what I would like to do!:^:

Faith, I'm glad you liked the site! It keeps me motivated and on track going to websites like that. Unfortunately I was not up to going to the mall this morning after last night's unexpected debauchery
BUT......(drumroll please)....I went on my first run! I only did a mile on the track nearby but it didn't kill me. I'm starting to realize how hard this is going to be, but hopefully I can do it.
Welcome Nasus - sorry to hear about your accident.

Hello ALL! :)
Nasus, Welcome, and Thanks! I know what you mean about gaining when you become a stay home Mom. My son's 3 and I'm a stay at home Mom also. I think if I had gone back to work the weight loss would have been easier and sooner, but who knows; maybe not, just another excuse for me to use. Are you still having problems with dizziness and headaches? It sounds like you've really been through a lot :( .
Here is the link to the thread that tells what got me motivated. I keep a copy of it with me and read it several times a day.

As I've said before, Aphil is our guardian angel here on this thread. She is very knowledgeable and motivating. :)
lexxy2, Your first run, Congratulations! WOW, a mile is outstanding! Keep it up and you're going to melt that weight off in no time! :smoking:
Hope everyone's enjoying the weekend!

Hey all! Haven't posted in a few days, my computer's been screwy....grrr. Anyway, things are going well. I am now down UNDER 150!!!! Whooo! I know it is just a pound or two, but it makes me feel very on track. I'm now back to my pre-Christmas weight of 148-149. Guess all that walking I did this week has paid off!
Faith- I can't believe how fast you seem to be losing! Congrats:) You're a total inspiration.
Kayla- Cool that the guys at the gym are nice to you. And being able to drool through a workout should be a good motivation to keep with it, right?;) Sounds like your eating is a little off balance though. A nutrigrain bar is only like 150 calories, if I recall correctly. That's not a good lunch! Try to eat more fruits and vegetables, and some protein too. And watch out for bagels! They're about 300 cals a piece...yikes!
Good luck to everyone!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! We are getting pounded with snow right now, so it has been a lazy day today!
I have been trying to eat better and less calories, I am actually counting them!! Wahoo! I never have so this is good! Steve, my significant other of 11 years, has been very supportive. He went out friday to grab us something to eat. He brought me home some Special K, grapes and a Healthy Choice meal.....I was really surprised.
I have been eating a bowl of Special K w/milk for breakfast, cutting down on my coffee consumption to 1-2 cups vs. my 4-5 cups every morning. I am trying to keep my breakfast and lunch calories down to around 300, with a regular meal at dinner. So, with snacks I am probably eating around 1300-1400 a day. I have not started an exercise regimen yet, when I do I might have to increase my cals?? Thoughts?
I have to incorporate more fruits into my diet, I don't care for some fruits so I think that will be difficult for me. I love veggies, so that isn't an issue. Question for you guys; are fresh veggies better than frozen as far as nutrition, vitamins are concerned? Or does it just depend on how they are cooked, I steam all veggies fresh or frozen, as to not boil out the vitamins......
I am no longer having problems with headaches or dizziness, that eventually subsided, they have no idea why that was happening. I do though, when I was hit, we were hit so hard, my head was humming, like my brain was shaking, it took several minutes for me to figure out what had happened. It was bizarre, but I am fine now though.
Talk to you all later~

Hi girls!
Moonbeam, dont worry i had a whole wheat bagel, and its not like i eat them everyday....the nutrigrain bar was just because i didnt have time to eat and it was the best i could do. and eating a little too little is better than eating too much. as long as im not starving myself....
anyways...im not trying to disregard your advice but i didnt want you to think......whatever im not too sure what im saying at the moment! its been a long day!
anways...but yah..overall i gotta be just a little more careful about what i eat. anyways......my weekend break from total body workout is over! back to the grind...i just did some abs and walked and stuff over the weekend......but now its on to the tough stuff!
well im going to sleep cause i have a really bad headache! have a good night and ill talk to you all later!

Hey Ladies,
Just checking in. Hope everyone had a good weekend. I pretty much took the whole weekend off and ate whatever I wanted. It's not so much that I feel "guilty" or mad at this point - it's more that I am worried that I'm NOT upset. On the plus side, I did run another mile again today. My plan was to do another tomorrow and then try to up the distance to 1.5 on Wednesday, but we'll have to see how sore I am tomorrow - I can already feel the soreness in my thighs.
Nasus, congrats on reducing your coffee intake so much - do you think that's could have caused your headaches and dizziness? I've been through caffiene withdrawl myself and experienced some of the symptoms you mentioned. It's also possible that you're not eating enough calories - 1300 is fairly low for your weight. Most diet websites have tools for you to input your height and weight to give you a recommended calorie intake per day in order to keep your metabolism fired up.
Well, off to bed.

Hello All
Hope everyone had a good day. Can’t believe the board has been down most of the day and several posts got deleted. :(
Here’s a great meal to cure those “Winter Blues”
1 can “Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup” only 180 calories for the whole can and 18 g protein with only 4 g of fat(it’s ready to serve but I like to add ˝ cup water)
Couple that with a nice Big Green Salad and a couple of tbsp “Just2Good” or “Light Done Right” dressing and you have a very satisfying meal for around 300 calories.
I usually add a cup of hot green tea or FF hot cocoa for dessert.
I’ve been having this a lot lately; it just makes me feel good. :)
Goodnight Everybody!

Grr, that's so frustrating that posts get deleted! I was briefly able to check them last night, and I know Aphil wrote something to get my *** back in gear, but of course now it's not there!
Anyway, I know I am responsible for what goes into my mouth and therefore responsible for my weight. I also know what I need to be eating in order to be healthy, etc....the missing link is getting my brain and my mouth to connect  As far as the drinking thing goes - that's not something I'm going to be giving up anytime soon. If I know I'm going to be going out on a weekend or to a happy hour, I try to plan my drinks into my daily calories. The bottom line is that I'm 24 and single, and really around here going to bars and clubs is the only social scene. I try to be sensible about how often I go out (and now my wallet dictates it!), but I just can't give up my social life on top of giving up my old way of eating, etc. OK, enough of that - not trying to make excuses here.
Yesterday I kept it to about 1575 calories and I jogged/walked for about 20 mins, so I'm starting to get back on track. Faith, thanks for the tip about your Winter Blues meal - sounds yummy!

HI all,
#!*%#!*#!@%!**#! Darn forum and posts getting deleted! This is the second time this has happened this past weeek-and they were both long posts also!
Lexxy-if you are going to drink-try for something lower in calories like a can of light beer for around 120-140 or try a rum and diet Coke or ameretto and diet coke for about 100 calories if they measure the shots out-if not and it si on the strong side-200 calories. A lot of bars free pour and actually pour about 2 shots into each mixed drink. If you are unsure-watch them make the first drink and count the seconds it takes for them to pour in the booze-to free pour a shot it should take 4 seconds. Among my talents with wedding coordination, interior design, and crafts-I also took a couple weeks of bartending school!:o
I know how it is Lex-I wasn't trying to tell you to give up the bars-I am only 26 myself-but stay away from all froo-froo drinks and anything frozen or mixed with juices-one of those and you might as well have had 3 Hershey bars after dinner-they are killers.
I myself and a wine drinker-and not cheap wine like Boones or Mad Dog-hehe...I like the good stuff now and then when I do have it.
In my last post I also told Kayla to get a box of Slim-Fast meal on the go bars and keep one in her purse for when she does not have time to eat a real lunch. They have more calories than a Nutri-Grain, as well as more protein and nutrients. I do this when I am out running around-as a mater of fact, all you lunch skippers should do this or something similar-Not eating lunch is asking to binge in the afternoon on anything you can grab.
Lex-I know how hard it is to stay in line, trust me...When I lose weight my body does the weirdest thing-most women have a plateau when they get down close to their ideal weight-but I have a hard plateau after each 5-10 pounds I lose. My body just seems to fight the weight loss a bit more than everyone else, and I have been on one the past two weeks. It is hard to do everything right each day and the scales not drop for a couple weeks at a time. I just have to wait them out and then they will drop again...After Jasmine, I went through about 5 plateaus like this before I lost all of the 4o pounds I gained with her and then a couple more:D -yes, I was actually smaller than I was before I had my daughter...Well I am down 8 and in the middle of a big plateau and haven't lost any in about 2 1/2 weeks and it sucks...I get overwhelmed like all the rest of you-but I try to stay motivated and motivating to the rest of you even when I am down.
Well, I better go-my mother is coming up today to watch the kids a bit while I get out of this house-we live away from our families due to my husband's job and the walls start closing in on me after a while and I need to be saved! Take care girls-move those buns!

Faith,
Lex, Kayla and I have all posted today-I don't know where everyone else is! I hope everyone is doing well-tupo girl, Willbethin, feelingbluelately, moonbeam-how are you all doing?
I am going to just have to start checking the forum twice a day-my email notifications are not working and letting me know when there are new posts...
Faith-has anyone in your family said anything about your loss as of yet? I am the type where I lose 15 or so pounds, and then all of a sudden with the next couple it is like everyone notices all at once...
I am still holding steady, trying to get through this plateau so I can drop those numbers again...I made smoked sausage tonight for dinner and substituted lite with the regular...my husband didn't even notice..he he he (I love to do that) I have already faked him out with lite shells and cheese and lower fat/calorie microwave popcorn-as long as he doesn't see the label he doesn't know there's anything different!
Well,
I better get going and clean up these supper dishes...Kayla, I hope you feel better-I am getting over the thing that is going around here and haven't been able to do my normal workouts this past week...just get back to it in a couple days when you feel better. Take care of yourself!

ps-Willbethin-I hope the damage control is going okay-you can do this, but it won't be easy!

Hey girls,
Thanks for the alcohol tips aphil! Today was my rest day for running - it was so nice out today too, I kind of wanted to go! But I don't want to overdo it too much in the beginning.
Kayla, sorry to hear you have the flu. My rommate got it on Sunday and I am so afraid it's going to hit me too!
I went grocery shopping today and spent WAY more than I should have! Fruits and veggies are just so darn expensive! The only indulgences I guy myself are bagel bites, which are 400 calories for 8 which I usually have once or twice a week, and I have to confess I bought Corn Pops, which I know are just sugar, but they're better (and more filling) than choclates or something. Tonight I think I'm going to make some chicken and roasted garlic with broccoli.

Hello ALL!
My e-mail notifications aren't working either. :( Are anyones?
aphil,I've let everyone know I'm on a weightloss mission, to help keep me motivated and on track. The most noticeable loss is in my face. I was beginning to look like I was going to explode. So yes, everyone is noticing and being very supportive. I'm also enjoying wearing very loose pants that before I had to pour myself into after they were already stretched out. :D I've got 2 pounds to go to get to my first goal of 199. I can't wait!
I'm sure the scales will start moving for you again soon. Plateaus are such a B***h! I know I'm due one and dreading it, but it's inevitable. :(
I hope you enjoyed your time out. Luckily my Mom lives close & saves me often. :)
lexxy2, Corn Pops are one of my favorites too. ;) Keep up the running, you'll melt the extra weight off in no time! :)

Morning everyone!
My email notifications are totally random - sometimes I'll get one for every post, other times I won't get them for days.
I think I've told everyone that I'm a member of Dietwatch.com, and they periodically have challenges where they'll send us daily tips to stay on track - I'll try to post them when I remember or if I think they are especially helpful.
"Plan your daily diet to include enough calories to keep your metabolism in high gear. If you restrict your caloric intake too much, your body will go into starvation mode. The body has a minimum amount of calorie energy it must consume in order to maintain simple functions, and depriving yourself of too much food can make your calorie counts far too short for even the most basic activities. While you will lose some weight, you will also slow down your metabolic rate and cause fluid and hormonal shifts that can result in organ damage.

Hi all!
Cold Wednesday here in Nashville! Supposed to get into the 50s today. Wish it would hurry....;)
Kayla, wish you felt better. Stay in, stay warm, eat well.
Faith, I'm so happy for you that you're so close to your first goal. That is awesome! :D
Lexxy seems like you are on the right track! Roasted garlic is one of my faves. DH loves it too. Better than butter!
Aphil, is there anything you maybe could change about your program to keep you off these plateaus? For myself, if I don't vary my food frequently, or change my workout routine (picked up my first dumbbell [the weight, not the person, hee hee] in 1977 and have never looked back!), I adapt too easily and the result is a plateau.
If I had my way, I'd eat the same things much of the time. My pancreas would get used to processing the same things and would run out of the proper enzymes after about four days of this. Result? Plateau. No loss. No nothing. A doctor who specializes in sports medicine told me that this was a common problem. Eat chicken and broccoli and brown rice for lunch every day for a week or so and the scale will stop moving downward because the pancreas isn't doing its job. When I follow his advice and rotate my foods, I have a steady loss. When I don't follow that advice, I have a problem with losing.
I'm no doctor, but he is. Just my two cents' worth. Plateaus are miserable and I wish there were something I could do to help you.
moonbeam, feelingbluelately -- where is everyone? Let us know you're okay!
I have not had any trouble with the notifications, but it sure was a mess to have so many messages drop off...
Have a great Wednesday! I am so glad to be here!

HI girls,
Faith-my face is the most noticeable loss so far also...I lose all over but it seems to be concentrated in my face and hands and feet, then in my chest and tummy, and then my fat upper arms start to go and my calves, and finally my butt!
My face is not as round, and my rings are looser as of now, and I can breathe in my jeans!;)
My email notification worked-it usually tells me the first person who posted since I have, and then I don't get anymore until I come to the board-when it is working that is...I didn't get any yesterday, and I did today-random...
I am in pretty good spirits, trying to get over this cold and tonsilitis...not fun.
Lexxy-I hear you about the grocery store and treats and $$$$!
I am a chocaholic, so I allow myself a bit of chocolate each week-and I don't like cheap stuff-I don't want no Palmer's choco easter eggs-he he...If it isn't from the Hershey co. or Reeses, it better be Dove or one of the expensive chocolate boutiques! I usually allow myself a small piece and put it into my calories for the day. I find I do better if I plan to have it rather than not allow myself any treats until I am ready to binge.
Faith-you're right, this plateau is a #*%! It should be over soon, and then I will be happy...I know my body and want to take it slow-and my goal is to lose at least 12 more through February and March-then I will make another goal to go through summer.
Take Care everyone-I hope you nonposters are just busy and not giving up...

Waterbaby,
I have always had this happen to me-no matter what I eat. It is just the way my body loses weight-when I am not on a plateau the pounds drop kindof fast-3 or 4 in a week, so I think this is just my body giving itself adjustment time.
I eat a variety of foods and a lot of fruits and veggies. kd that used to post here has that problem though-I took a look at her food menus and they were almost identical for weeks at a time, and no fruit whatsoever...I don't see how she could stand it-she said she didn't like much else and even though she counted calories-it was the same thing every day-tuna, cheese, Doritos, and peanut butter cups-so it wasn't the healthiest calories either.
The long-time posters here also know I do weight training 5 days a week alternating body parts and on weekends do yoga, pilates, or bellydancing:o It is enjoyable for me and I had always found it exotic and wanted to learn how. I even have the little zils.(finger cymbals)
I just have to grin and bear it and wait for each one to be over!

Hi katy,
I'm new to this site but I know what you mean about the low calories. I want to lose 45 lbs by July that's about 2 lbs a week which is not a starving diet actually. Anyway let me tell you that if you feel that 1,200 is too strict and you stay hungry you might be eating the wrong so called diet foods. I have done 1,200 calorie diets and have failed at least 3 times and you know why?? Because I was eating for breakfast:Cup of coffee withskim milk, two slices of toast with fatfree butter(YUCK) after an hour Iwas hungry , my lunch was a salad and a few crumbs of 3 crackers with light dressing, and maybe 3 oz of tuna with no mayo... I had headaches, stomach pains as well. I have been eating 1,200 calories now but with a BIG difference!!! my Breakfast is approx 345 calories and this is what I have scrambled eggs(thekind that come in a carton 98%eggwhites, its yellow and tastes about the same) 1 Boca breakfast sausage link(totally meatless! and I had to pinch myself to believe there was no meat in this sausage!) English Muffin with rasberry preserve on top. The rasberry preserve is sweetened with nutrasweet and it only has 10 calories for tbsp. Coffee with 1% milk and equal sugar. My lunch is about 285 calories! And that is a cheeseburer with lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, and 2 long pickle slices ! The burger is called BOCA BURGER and its totally meatless and taste great!~ Ive tried a few veggie brands and I wasted my money and threw them in the garbage! Ask your local grocer where they have the veggie burgers and hotdogs. You should find the BOCA brand there. My dinner is about 550 cal to 600 cal. I eat about 7 oz chicken breast grilled ,baked homemade fries, 1/3 cup of mixed veggies. I dont peel the potato , I cut them like fries and spray with Pam spray and put in the oven for about 20 min at 390 degrees. if during the day you're hungry, eat Yoplait 98%fatfree yogurt,or a pear even a small banana even. IF you hate to drink 8 glasses of water a day like I do youcan have sugar free ice tea and calorie free soda. Few doctors tell you YouCANT drink diet soda only 8 glasses of water a day, but honestly doctors have told me " what your body needs is 8 (8oz) of FUIDS in your body because your body needs alot of fluids to flush out fatty garbage out of your system... sorry for the super long post! Email me! I need a diet buddy bad! lol

hey!
We are at a new thread-Doin it the old fashoned way #4-so try us there! You can also email me at mom2raiandjas@lycos.com, or pm me here.
About the diet soda-you can include this in your fluid intake a day if it is caffiene free-if it has caffiene, then you need to add an extra cup of fluid a day for each one you drink because caffiene is a diuretic.
You can eat plenty of food if you are eating with good choices-but 1200 is still too strict for some-it is the absolute lowest you should eat to lose weight-most of us here are anywhere from the 1300-1600 range.
