Hey gals - can you believe it's July already???? Another month gone and we're now in the middle of Summer!

I'm working on my July 4th menu today - going to try to make stuff everyone will like without having to do a YOU: turn after the fact.

Spending some time relaxing in the sun, rereading my YOU: book. 3 months until the wedding - I'd better get my butt in gear if I want to meet my wonderland goal!

Well, I should probably check in more often. I have been doing okay, but not great on the plan. I did my July 1st weigh in and I'm down six pounds in about three weeks. Yes, it's slow and sensible, but I am a little disappointed. I have been doing pretty well with the food, but I stink at the exercise. I'm going to stick with it, though! Good luck to everyone else. I really do enjoy reading all of the posts, even though I don't always post. It's great knowing others are in the same boat as I am.:)

Hey gals - Kim I'm in the same boat - but for me it's shingles! Luckily it's a pretty mild case, so I'm just moderately uncomfortable. Either the stress of my trip and/or the wedding deadline looming set it off. But I'm am SO thankful it's not a worse case - people are sometimes out of commission 2-4 weeks with this!

Eating is so-so - not a lot of time for planning, but I'm hanging in there. I'll have some days off later this week, so I'll work on that.

Late - 6# is great - yes, slow, but probably pretty easily done, and it will stay off! Keep up the good work, and yes, exercise will definitely help!

You gals have a good one!

Hey everyone
the weather has just been miserable here lately...Im almost depressing. Yesterday was a great day eatingwise and today not so great. The scale was down this morning which is a good thing... Jumping right back on track for supper and throwing out the box of cookies I got into....hanging on tight..ttyl

Happy 4th of July to the Americans here!

I was looking for an appropriate smiley, but didn't find one!

Oh, well, have a good one - try to steer clear of the mayo-laden salads if at all possible...

I'm making pulled pork, in the crockpot, so will have to have a bit of coleslaw with them - even though we are in NY, we make them Carolina-style.

Fireworks were last night, which is good as it may rain today. Gray and dreary out

Enjoy your holiday everyone in the US!

07-04-2007, 03:24 PM
Well, the steriods and the antihistamines are putting on the pounds. AUGH!!!! I itch when it is time for the antihistamines and they make me sleepy so the walking is down to a crawl. Looks like it will be 3 weeks of HE(doulble hockey sticks). Shingles.....those can be painful. How in the world? Did you pick up something on your travel or is your immune system just ran down..... Happy 4th of July to the Americans and Happy Canada Day to WamTam!

07-05-2007, 01:26 PM
IRT the shingles - they think brought on by stress - maybe delayed stress from my trip, and the wedding drawing nearer... who knows. Luckily the fact that my case is mild - Advil is enough to kill the pain, means my immune system is in great shape and was able to ward off most of the virus.

I'm going to credit that to YOU: keeping me healthy!

Sorry to hear you're having such an ordeal with the poison ivy - I've never had it myself (knock on wood!). Just remember, the weight gain is temporary, and will all come off once you're off the medications.

omg I had so much fun at aquabics last night..I wish it was something I could do all year around. All of us were beginnners and there were alot of laughs and giggles. I know from experience I am hungry after swimming so I made extra salad for supper and had a bowl of cherries along with it...all before 9pm. Then no eating afterwards...yah..I feel back on track after that.
I need to feel like this more often...
have agreat day you guys..
sorry about the shingles Cindy..Ive heard they are painful!

Well, I fell yesterday down the stairs at home and broke my right foot. Actually the bone in the heel......no weight bearing at all for 2 weeks and then to be checked on in the ortho clinic. Good thing I met my Womans Challenge 2007 a week early. Now, what am I to do.....I guess DH is going to have to learn to cook the oz way. I am no good in the kitchen with the crutches but I borrowed a walker from my mom.....maybe things will get better. Stay good.....well, at least you know I won't be weighing for two weeks.

Hi YOADies (YOADers?)! Just checking in. Oh my gosh - shingles, poison ivy, a broken foot?! Dieting is tough enough without additional complications. Sending good thoughts out to our ailing members.... On the diet front it has been so hot lately that I've been eating plenty of summer type foods - lots of smoothies and salads. On the down side, I don't enjoy walking in the seriously humid weather. Keep up the good work, everybody!

I am getting back on track the best way I can....I actually feel pretty good about doing this journey. I have been journaling because there is no one talk to. I just found out that I can get into the ortho clinic this Thursday instead of next.....hopefully a walking cast so I can get back to work, school and a somewhat normal life.

HI guys - checking in!

I'm headed to MI this weekend for my first shower and a bunch of wedding planning appointments. This is really starting to stress me out! So much to do, so little time, and just one of me!

I leave tomorrow, so won't be online much until next Tuesday. You gals have a great weekend, if I don't talk to you before then.

Have fun Cindy and for crying out loud....enjoy yourself. How is the shingles?
Well, I am back to work for today but will be off tomorrow. No weight bearing activity on the foot for 3 more weeks. They did give me a walking boot but it is more for to take off and shower and protect the heel. They didn't want to but I told them for the safety of the people around me, they had to work with me on this. Plus, it is easier to keep the weight off the foot.

Oh Kim that sounds awful..I hope your not too uncomfortable. Take it easy...
Didnt get my walk in today..I took the day off. I ate well though. Tried something new..I took a chickenbreast and slit it open...stuffed it with low fat feta and sundried tomatoes that had been soaked in water. I place the breast in a pan, then added the water I soaked the tomatoes in...baked it..YUMMM

Iwanawurkit
07-14-2007, 04:30 PM
Patti......that sounds wonderful. I am going to have to give that recipe a try. Did you just bake it as you would a chicken breast? I have done well on my food, no so much on the water because it makes me get up and down and no exercise with the exception of walking on the crutches.

I must admit, i've been lurking...

I've had the book for little over 3 weeks now. In that 3 weeks, I moved from Glendale, AZ to Las Vegas, NV. I escaped the heat, just a hair of a degree, but I love the nights here, breezy and mid 70's usually.

About me, I'm 33 yrs old, single female. I'm 4ft 11in/5ft (don't know for sure), and about 218lbs. My weight fluctuates, and I know why it does... the amount of calories I eat. I lost over 15lbs in March of last year after having my broken ankle repaired, and couldn't get access to alot of food, so my daily intake was about 1100-1500 calories per day, compared to the 3500 estimated calories I was eating, mostly fast food. I loved the extra cash I had, I loved that clothes were fitting better, and I felt better about myself, actually proud of myself for the first time in 7 years since I gained all the weight. Granted I have about 100lbs to lose, but I'm determined to get as close as I can. I was blessed with bipolar depression diagnosed 2005, and that has greatly affected my weight. Last year in October 2006, I had my second pap smear come back abnormal. I have tested positive for Cervical Dyspalsia CIN 1 and high-risk HPV (the infection - not the wart version or low-grade). This had a severe effect on my depression, and I've been medicated for the depression for the last 6 months, prior to that I was in counseling and successfully completed it and didn't need medication. I see a new primary care doctor in Vegas this Wednesday to get all my blood work done, and get cleared to do this. I am using the You on a diet plan by Dr Oz and Dr Roizen.

So I made this big jump and journey to kinda separate myself from some of my old habits and enablers. Its sort of of me time in my life now. I still have the love and support from parents, family and friends back home, I willingly put myself in a do or die trying situation as you know how Vegas can be. I moved down here with a job already in hand, I was commuting back and forth to AZ and NV for most of May, and moved June 1st, 2007. I've managed to climb the ladder into a management position since I have been here. I guess they were impressed with my work. I had an apartment on reserve for a June 1st move in, since 2nd week of May. The move costs little over $1500 plus gas and food. Luckily, I got the job before I moved, so it is all tax deductible. HEHEHEH...

I got everything unpacked, including the books... I am going to start reading tonight. I know this is a good plan to be on, since I work in the health care industry, I've had many of a doctor already recommend these changes, Dr Oz and Dr Roizen just put it all in one easy to find place.... a best selling book.

I promise to check back, I will be online alot, since I don't know many people here. I work M-F and have weekends off. I like my job and the life I've built here, still working on some aspects though (ie friends).

Hope you all have a great Sunday.

Sharon

Hi all. Don't know if you remember me I've been gone so long. I have had a busy month. I don't know how I have done it but I am down to 219. I can't even believe it when I write it down. I started in May at 244. I've reached my goal of 220. If I lose 5 more lbs I will have lost 30 lbs. I hope everyone else is doing great. I've been walking every day and have started working out at the ymca which I think has helped. My eating hasn't been great but I'm doing pretty good.

Hey guys, I'm back from my busy wedding planning weekend!

Food was not so good, but tomorrow is the YOU: turn - back in the gym and back on track food wise. I'll weigh myself tomorrow for the first time in ages - I'm scared to see it, but it has to be done!

Welcome sleepgirl and welcome back Mary - wow Mary, you've done so well! Keep up the good work - you too Patti! All of us, actually!

Hope you're doing ok Kim - how's that foot? My shingles are almost gone, thankfully.

Got a lot of wedding stuff done - instead of my re-posting it, you can read more about it here:

Hope everyone's week is going well! I'll be around much more now that all of that is over. Invitations are next, however!

I'm still around. I'm not really following the diet right now, but I'm going to get back to it asap. I'm getting my dad settled in at the nursing home. There's been a lot of running around and stress in my life the last couple months. I haven't gained anything, but I haven't lost either. I've been eating out a lot and not getting any exercise in.

It's good to see the thread is still here for when I get back on track.

New batch of poison ivy on my arms....not sure where I picked that up at unless some of the oil was on my shirt sleeves but I thought I had washed everything. Oh well.

I was really discouraged when I weighed on Sunday morning because the scales showed a 7 pound gain from the steriods and inactivity. I weighed this morning and 6 pounds of the gain is gone. Woo Hoo!!!! I feel much better. I have been doing the plan almost religiously all this week! The foot....I have to stay off the foot or at least no weight until August 2nd. They wanted to put screws in my heel and I said no thanks! So I have a walking boot on and sound like something out of a scary movie when I walk in the kitchen ker....plunk.....ker....plunk
Have a great Hump Day!

hey guys i am back. my husband has left for iraq (he's in the army) and i am ready to get back on the plan!

even though i have been off plan i have started the c25k running program and i am on week 3 of that. so i am hoping since i am getting healthier with the exercising that the eating will just be an easy addition. i did it before, i can do it again, right?

yesterday was the first day i was alone without my husband so i ate horribly. now i have junk in my freezer that i wouldn't normally have and i am hoping the kids like eclairs because otherwise i need to throw them out :(

anyways thanks for letting me back in the cool club. i have gained 5 of the pounds that i lost in june back so i want to focus on losing those first maybe by the end of the month!

Hey gals - fabulous news to share - my first weigh-in in almost 6 weeks, and I didn't gain anything! Holding steady at 216.5, which is quite hard to believe! DF is up 6# - I guess that just goes to show what exercise will do for you - keeps your metabolism going strong even when you can't fit it in. I've eaten much off-plan stuff the past weeks, and am so happy to know I didn't cause my weight to backslide! And, I don't have to change my ticker!

Got my cardio in today - only 45 minutes and my heart was racing! Back to Jillian circuits tomorrow! Feels good to be back on track!

Kim, glad to hear you're feeling better about that temporary weight.

Cakses and Paula - glad to hear from you both. Paula, you drop in to chat with us anytime, and try to squeeze some walks in to help yourself with the stress. And Cakses, clean out that house - do I need to sick Dr. Oz on you???? LOL - seriously though, protect yourself against it. My house has "bad" stuff in it as well, and by Friday it will be all shipped up to camp.

From 244 to 220. WOW.

Hey guys - how are things going? Patti, how are you feeling these days?

Sorry I've been MIA - wedding stuff is making me crazy. I have to get my invitations out this week, and as I'm printing them myself, I'm stressing about the whole thing. Once printed they need to be assembled, addressed and mailed. I can relax a bit once those are done - just the favor boxes to do, and the rest is more just details.

I'm not really back in the gym yet - I went last Wednesday, then haven't made it since. I'm not sleeping well, stress-related I think, and thus can't get my butt out of bed to go to the gym in the morning. I really have to work on this...

You gals have a good one - let me know how you've been doing.

Here's an excerpt from the RealAge site that I thought was good to keep in mind - not just the point they are making, but also keeping in mind what your heredity dictates in terms of what you best body possible could be. I'm Eastern European in heritage, and thus will never be a tiny, thin woman!

All About YOU: Remember Your Ancestry

What's your ideal body shape and size? Pull out the family photo album.
Pictures of your parents or you between the ages of 18 and 21 (when your metabolism operated at its prime) can help clue you in to what your size and shape should look like in order to ward off weight-related illness. Have you strayed too far from the family tree? Here's how to get back to your "factory settings."

The closer your weight is to when you were 18 (for women) or 21 (for men), the better for your health. That's assuming you weren't already struggling with weight issues at that age. If so, check out pictures of your parents or grandparents at that age. Most people gain weight between the ages of 21 and 60, and being overweight or obese significantly ups your risk of diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer.

But weight gain isn't the only problem. Has your shape changed since you were younger? Starting as a pencil or a pear and growing into an apple isn't good. Fat around your middle is associated with health risks, even if you're at a normal weight.

Wow - I'm pretty proud of myself today - I got out of bed at 5:30am, was in the car by 6:10, started my workout by 6:25, in the shower by 7:30 and in my office by 7:55! Probably doesn't sound like much, but for me that is a 45 minute earlier shift, which required a lot of effort!

But, I'm on a roll now, and will continue to do this from now on!
