Weight Loss Surgery - Three Days into Post Op. Wheeeee.

Hello girls and guys. My surgery is over and this is my third day post op. Everything went really well and I got an A+ at the hospital. LOL. My problem was riding from the hospital in one area to my home which is 135 miles away. My surgeon said I would be extra sore for about four days and fairly weak after the trip, but so far it hasn't been too bad. oh, my number one problem is trying to find places to walk because I remember someone saying to walk, walk, walk and that's exactly what they told me. One of the reasons being it helps keep you from getting blood clots. I'm trying to find things to eat for the next month that's liquid and that I would like and get them in the house. I had stocked up on most of the post op liquids and the jello that I picked up turned out to have surgur in it, so gave it away to DIL for grandchildren.
FYI, I had the RNY instead of the lap band and I, also will look at my little scars and they are tiny, as badges of my courage in beginning my new life. When I find out how to change my weight at the bottom, I'll begin keeping up with that also. LOL. I was among those that gained weight at the hospital but have lost four pounds in the past three days which I know is water weight from swelling. When that goes away, I'm on my way. My SIL brought me two sweaters as a funny gift for coming home. I opened up the box and there was a white cardigan, size L and a beautiful pink sweater, size M. I sure hope to live up to those expectations. Here's to happy beginnings.
Blessings.

Lolow!!!! Congrats!!! Ya know I bought some sweaters right after I had surgery (ordered them) and when they came I looked at them in despair. They were soooo little. I didn't think I would ever get in them. Ha! But I did. In fact, they are a little loose now. You hang in there girl. You're on your way.

Where you able to loose some weight prior to surgery? How did you do it? Please post a lot and let us newbys know your experiences a long the way. Where did you have your surgery? Thanks. Janice

My first question is for Jiffypop. What kind of high protein soup can I puree. I would like something just a tad different from the beef, chicken and veggie broth. The veggie broth was Ugh but I'll save it for making some soup after 21 days.
Happy Birthday Jiffypop. May you have many, many more!
I'm trying to answer some questions that have been sent to me.
I had my surgery in San Antonio.
Question about losing weight before operation. They put me on a liquid diet, like Atkins, Slim-Fast Low Carb only, for breakfast and lunch and then a sensible dinner. I didn't lose a whole lot. I only had a month and I'm a hard loser. I want to hold onto all my love handles, it seems. But I did lose some before surgery and was never reprimanded for it.
They treated me like a princess at the hospital and I loved them for it. Could be because I'm a senior citizen and I reminded them of their grandmother. I really don't know, but my help was excellent. I had the surgery at the Methodist Speciality and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio with Dr. Nilesh Patel doing the surgery. He works very well with Medicare is all for helping seniors live a fullfilling life. I think I'm in love with him. Remember how you use to feel about your OBGYN doctor after childbirth? You always had deep feelings for him. LOL
Today is day five of post op. I haven't had in pain medicine since 10 pm last night and I'm not in any pain. I have been walking, walking, walking around the house but not going very far because I don't want to wear anything tight just yet.
I do hope this has helped someone. This website holds so much information and I would not have done it if I hadn't come here first.
Blessings.
P.S. I need to change my weight. Still don't know how to do it. Can anyone give me some simple directions? haha I told you I was old!!

what a great tale, lolow! sounds like you're in good hands.
as for the high protein soup. well, here in JOISY, we can get just about every kind of progresso soup, so that's where my best experience is. try to find something comparable.
first of all, you can't have the broth plus the solids. you have to scoop out the solids and puree them. don't add any more broth to that - they're wet enough. and you have to get out ALL THE MEAT, and some of the veggies, and none of the rice or noodles.
sooo, having said all that, the best soups to do this with are the chickarina [cute little chicken meatballs], or italian wedding soup [more cute little meatballs].
read the labels. you're looking for a soup that has at least 10 grams of protein per serving, and less than 15 grams of carbs. you can SOMETIMES find that in lentil or bean soups, but you might have to increase the protein by adding some cheese [and DON'T add mozzarella - those of us who have eaten hot stringy cheese will never EVER do that again!!!!!]
REMEMBER - there has to be MORE protein than carbs per serving.
hope this helps!

Thanks, Jiffy. I'll look tomorrow. My chicken broth tonight was really getting on my nerves. I think I'll probably start clucking!!

You are so brave! I'm scheduled to have my surgery on Saturday. And talk about clucking. I'm starting to feel like a total chicken. Today is better than yesterday, so at least I'm feeling hopeful today. I wish you lots of luck and beautiful success.

Thanks. I've been enjoying myself these past six days. Today I haven't had any pain medication since 10:00 last night. My pain medicine is now mainly for my arthritis since he took me off the other stuff because it would hurt/endanger my pouch. I have fallen in love with SF popsicles, so stock up on them before your surgery. They have really helped me have something that is easy to eat and I sort of treat myself with this after my chick/beef broth each meal and my jello. I sip my water all the time and people are already saying they see it in my face. See, I told you I was having fun! LOL.
I go to my primary care doctor tomorrow for a first time get acquainted visit. I hope she feels good about RNY. haha. Too late now if she doesn't. haha.
Good luck Saturday and go in there with a positive attitude. I'll say a prayer for you.
Blessings.

What are SF popsicles? That sounds lovely. I try to avoid sugar at all costs - do they have sugar? OMGoodness! you've already lost over 10 lbs. So you didn't tell your Primary Care Doctor? I haven't either. I was fairly general about it when I saw him last, but he was leaving to go on a month-long vacation, so I haven't updated him-he's still gone. I did kind of ask if he had a preference for me, what it would be - and he said lap-band too. Thank you so much for the well-wishes. I'm so happy for you - I can't wait to be six days out. Good luck!! and keep me posted!!
:)
Low!! You are doing Great! :D
JAx SF Pops means Sugar Free Popsicles I know all the initials get confusing! You'll be great too!

My favorite SF popsicles are from Wal-Mart. They are a big plastic bag full of the doubles and all flavors, banana, grape, pina colado (YES!)cherry, and blue raspberry. It's in a large bag with sugar and a slash over the front of sugar. They're double wrapped and so easy to keep fresh in the freezer. YUM. I just got out an orange.
Visit with primary care went fine today. She just said to watch out down the road for stomach problems. They don't know what will happen twenty years from now. Well, heck, I'll be 89 then!! But all, in all, very nice to me. I told her I had to take my health into my own hands because after this and I'm well is my knee surgery. She approved and said she would help me all she could but that her hospital doesn't do gastric so they don't talk about it or she can't give me the post op follow-up. Told her that was fine, I'd have it done in Austin and that was my visit.
I love this honeymoon stage. Down one more pound this morning. YEA

How many days is it for you now, Low? You've past the week point, haven't you? How are you doing?

Thanks for asking. Yes, I'm 9 days past now and I really feel good. I have one sore spot on my tummy (right side). I'm eager for the doctor to check it out. It's where my medicine patch was inserted and there seems to be a lump there but all in all, I feel great. Not having any problem with my broth, jello and Krystal Light. Just a little tired of it. Tonight I'm having iced tea instead of the Krystal Light and this afternoon I had a glass of buttermilk (FF).
My doctor wants me to drink two glasses of skim milk a day. I try to drink one after breakfast and then before bedtime. I've never been a milk drinker thought so it's a little hard but nothing has bothered me so far. I love my popsicles, banana especially. Those are my treats. I marked my calendar for day 21 when I can go to soft foods. Oh, Happy Day.
I don't know if you'll get this before leaving or not. You may already be on your way down there. Like I said, I'll pray for you and let me know when you get home. Oh, I did have a surprise today. I put on one of my tops (knit) that had been hugging me a little, you know what I mean, and it falls loose around the tummy. Now that was a happy moment for me, so I went to JC Pennys to buy a birthday gift. I was a little tired just picking out the gift and that's all I did and it was right inside the door, but I did get out. First time on my own.
You do have someone going with you, don't you? The drive home could be a little rough without a driver. LOL That sounds funny but you know what I mean.
Blessings.
