Hi all. I was inspired to buy the YOU book by a public tv special featuring Dr. Rozien. I have a 13 month old and am 17 weeks pregnant. I was already about 70 pounds overweight when I got pregnant. Obviously, I don't want to lose weight while I'm pregnant and can't exactly decrease my waist until the day my little turkey comes out of the oven.

But it sounds like a good healthy eating program that I can follow which would help both me and the baby to be healthy during my pregnancy. I haven't read the book yet, but was wondering for those of you who have been following it, would you (in your non-professional, non-medical, and all other disclaimers) opinion deem YOU safe for a pregnant woman to follow?

TIA!

oh! and I just adore this smilie so I have to use it! lol :carrot:

IMHO I would say it would be great to follow ..you can have skim milk, whole grains, tons of fruits and veggies, two legged animal meat..all healthy stuff for the little one. The only thing I would be concerened about would be the fish...ask you dr how much is allowable for a pregant woman. Some fish contain high levels of mercury.
Congrats...and join us on the daily thread!

Yes, what Patti said. Actually if you are already 70 pounds over and 17 weeks, it would be better for you and the 'little turkey'. I did WW with my first child and the doctor blessed the plan. I just had to drink more dairy.

Thanks for the input and the invite to your daily thread.

Right now, I'm still reading and in the planning stage. We're going on a short vacation for the 4th of July, and I hate to have just started the YOAD plan and then go b/c I think I'd just be setting myself up for failure. (It would be different if I were already immersed and comfortable in it, then I could just continue.) I think I might go ahead and start cutting out my one true love in life (caffeine-free Pepsi) and replacing it with my arch-nemesis, aka water. That's going to be really tough for me. That will probably be the hardest part of this plan.

I'll keep this forum book-marked and be sure to pop in once I get started. See you in July!

Thanks for the tip! Skim milk is no problem!

I've decided to gradually try YOAD foods/meals and make changes until July when I can go full-force. I tried steal-cut oats this morning (nearly burned my damn kitchen down! lol) It was alright. I'll keep adjusting it and even if it doesn't get any better than it was this morning, I *can* eat it (without gagging! lol) and think I'd eventually develop a taste for it.

I also bought a bar of dark chocolate yesterday to try. I ate a few bites and it really wasn't bad. Obviously, milk chocolate is the preference, but I can get used to it. But later, when I looked on the back, the first ingredient is sugar. Is that the way all dark chocolate is? Is it acceptable to have the sugar in dark chocolate, or are there other brands where it's not present (or at least not in the first five)?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all your help!
