Hi everyone I just wanted to introduce myself to this section of the boards (and this board in general). I should explain to you I am not on a real diet or anything. I am 19 years old and I have never really had a problem with gaining weight, but now that I am getting older I'm getting nervous about it. I have gone through a food obsession with my first year of college (trying to avoid the freshmen 15 and things like that), so now I know a lot more about food and what not to eat. My friends all think I'm crazy, but a lot of the food out there is so disgusting in its nutritional information that it scares the crap out of me. I don't really eat much, seeing as I get up at around 11 everyday, so I eat probably 1 less meal then everyone else. I dont eat much during the day either, dinner is my biggest meal (although its hardest to count, seeing as my dad usually cooks it). I am trying to eat really healthy, but obviously when I go out with my friends there are always those temptations and slip ups that are hard to avoid. That was a verrrry long introduction, haha but I just wanted to introduce myself if you see me poking around the boards.

Welcome to the board! I praise you for taking control now before it becomes a problem. Just make sure that you get enough calories everyday, though. If you don't have a weight problem, just be conscious of health foods and exercise, but eat what you need to stay healthy.

Since it's sounds like you're not eating a lot, you will need to really focus on the quality of your food. Are you eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein?

Do you exercise? You might want to incorporate some walking or jogging and some weight training to help keep your body fit and strong.

Also, as Steelslady said, make sure you're getting enough calories! It's good to be concerned about eating well and remaining lean and healthy ... it's not good to get obsessive about it. Eating less than your body needs isn't healthy, any more than eating too much is.

I try to swim laps whenever its nice out, and a couple times a week my family will go on walks after dinner. I deffinitally dont sit on my butt all day, but I would exactly call myself very active. In highschool it was so easy for me because I was on a couple varsity teams but since college its been a lot harder. Im working on it haha.
I eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, and protein. I make sure I eat a cup of fruit a day, I usually get my vegetables in at dinner, and I usually have protein for both lunch and dinner (I'm big on fish and chicken). The only thing I am unsure about is the whole grains. Every morning I have been eating the alternative western bagels : http://www.westernbagel.com/products...p?PR_SKU=34565

I'm assuming those aren't whole grains, it would be too good to be true haha. If its not, do you have any reccomendations for getting in my whole grains, preferably at breakfast? Thanks!

Getting whole grains at breakfast is easy! Oatmeal is probably the big one people eat then. There are also whole grain cereals. Whole grain toast is another favorite. And, you can certainly find whole grain bagels (though your western bagels are, unfortunately, not them).
