:welcome2: to theJune 2007 Weighty Issues Thread. Summer is finally here!!! Are you looking and feeling as hot as the summer temps? It's smokin' hot where I live but my body image needs to catch up. I want to change the term "lazy days" of summer, we should be focusing on exercising, eating right and making the most of our sexy selves. Do we want to feel great and show it off? Or will we be kicking ourselves for not taking control? Fake it til you make it, I say. We can do this together and bring sexy back!
Hey newbies out there, need some new inspiration? We're a group of wonderful women from different walks of life, spread out from the East Coast :coolsnow: to the West Coast :shocksn: and the sunny Pacific :sunny: :rain: .
We support :cheer2: :congrat: :cheer2: each other through the highs :high: and lows :( of every day life--it's not just about weight loss :goodscale , it's about LIFE :dunno: . If you have something to say :gossip: or need a shoulder to cry on  , come on in, :comp:
grab a chair and stay awhile :cofdate: . You'll be glad you did.

I took a day off today and brought Michael out to Sea Life Park (anyone see the movie 50 First Dates?), a small marine park out here. It was blazin' hot and humid...it's a good thing I slathered sunscreen on us both. We had a great time. He fed the sea lions, we got to pet an 11 mo. old sea turtle (I had no idea their skin was so soft) and fiddled around with the star fish and anemones. It was a pretty awesome day. We also watched the dolphin and wholphin (half false killer whale/dolphin) show. Neat! I'm just relaxing now in the A/C of my office. Don't think I'll get any work done at this point but at least I can sort out the mail.
Angie, I'm glad you got your dish sorted out. I'm right there with you on "starting again" on Monday--it's definitely Monday for me, Sunday's are still crazy fat laden BBQ days at my house  Enjoy your lobster feast, sounds WONDERFUL :T
Virgo, how are ya today? No worries OK? :D
Hi to Dips, cw, Kempy, Cal and everyone... have a wonderful weekend. Don't know if I'll pop back in here (not like I like to come into the office :P ) but I'll be back online Monday. Enjoy

We made it back to my Dad's in MO. yesterday afternoon about 4:00pm. We have had really good days for traveling so that has been good. We had a little rain in PA. the day before we left there and then we didn't have anymore rain until yesterday morning around St. Louis. It wasn't to bad though, I always get so nervous when it rains hard and we are hauling the 5th wheel. Then last night we got a pretty good thunderstorm during the night. The rain was heavy and we had some wind that kind of rocked the trailer which was a lot of fun! NOT!!! :(
I have got some more pictures and as soon as I can get them on the computer I will try to get them posted. Right now they are saying we have flash flood warnings out for here and we have lightening and thunder dancing around us.
Guess I'd better get off of here for now. Just want to say Hello to everyone and hopefully I will have some good weather tomorrow and get some pictures posted. Everybody keep up the good work!!! :carrot: Karen

Be safe on your travels Karen!!!
06-03-2007, 10:12 AM
I forgot to mention last week that I am down 9.3 lbs.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
06-06-2007, 08:32 AM
Where is everyone??
06-06-2007, 02:10 PM
Hey ladies, I am in the office today... I stayed home yesterday and did ALL my laundry and linens, took me the whole day too. Still don't have computer access at home unless my nephew comes over with his laptop.
Cal, BIG CONGRATULATIONS on your 9.3 lbs down. :high: You are working it and it is coming right off. Just a few more days of school right? Michael's been out since last Thursday and I've brought him into the office today armed with his Gameboy, DVD's and snacks. I'm so envious of your upcoming cruise.
Angie, what you up to? Your garden pics are great. I haven't had much luck with re-starting my "diet" this week. I do good at breakfast but wait too long for lunch then I overeat. I have to go and restock my fridge and pantry so I'm all set instead of just winging it.
Karen, I hope you haven't had any troules with the weather during your travels, I know the gas prices are horrific though.
Kempy, are you floating on your pool right now??? Kidding! I know you're hard at work.
Virgo, I just read in my TV Guide that a new exhibit opened at the Museum of Science and Industry about CSI, and the actors from the show were there for the opening. Gawd, I would've loved to have been there, I absolutely love that show.
Dips, schools out right? What do you have planned for the summer?
 Hi cw. Is your DD out of school yet?
Well, I have to get back to work. Have a good one and hope more of you can pop in.
06-06-2007, 02:16 PM
I don't remember if I told you guys about the kitten my sister found at the park. Some kid was going to dump it so she brought it home. She doesn't have a name so we've been calling her BB (black beard (she has a black smudge under her chin); or on bad days "bratty b*tch", or bratty biter since she's almost always in play attack mode and like to claw and bite ) My mom calls her Miss Kitty.

Well, we went to Grove, Oklahoma on Tuesday to visit my cousin and her hubby that live down there. They live on Grand Lake of the Cherokees down there. Well, almost on the lake! It is just about 2 blocks to go to the lake. This is a picture of myself, Ginger and Sissy, and Lois, my cousin and her "Baby" Buddy. He is such a sweet little ****zu and I was surprised at how well that the three of them got along together! It was great. I hadn't seen her in about 2 years.
We came back up to my Dad's in MO. yesterday and plan on heading back to Colorado on Sunday. Should be back home Monday night.
Cal---Congrats on your weight loss!! That is great :carrot: but I think I may have found all that you have lost!!!:( I'm really going to have to get back on track when we get back home. No time to diddle around!! So I will probably need a good swift kick in the pants:kickbutt: to get motivated again.
We have spent some time looking at homes back here. We have thought about moving back here and I could be so much closer to my family. But really can't do anything if we can't sell our home in Colorado first. But just checking out what you can buy for the money back here.
Noelle, What a cute kitty!! I used to have cats too but decided since we travel to come back here and to PA. that I wouldn't try to get cats again. I take Ginger and Sissy with us where ever but it would be a lot harder to travel with a cat or to try to get someone to watch them while we are gone.
My brother never has been able to get the pool ready but that's OK we got in some good visits and he has so many things on his mind right now with his divorce coming up the end of this month. His sons are still hoping to be able to get it done and they have been out there working on getting it cleaned up as best they can. They might be able to get it up and going the end of this month.
Everyone have a good night and I'll check back hopefully one more time before we pack up to go home.
Take care and keep up the good work!! Karen

It's gotten a little quiet.
Wednesday was our last day of school. I'm so relieved to have everything done, and now I can relax a bit before heading to Seattle and Alaska next week. Yesterday we went shopping for some shoes for hubby. Being from Italy, he's a little picky when it comes for quality shoes. Afterwards we went to my brother's house and watched him stressing while he was trying to load up his van. They were leaving today for CA, then flying up to Seattle on Sunday. It's going to be so awesome to have my brother and one of my sisters on this cruise with us. While watching my brother realize that he had to unload the suitcases (because he lost a camera strap), I told him that I knew it would be fun watching him pack!
My turn starts today when I start cleaning the house and finish going through the rest of the clothes that have to start finding their way into the suitcases.
Karen: It sure sounds like you are having a great time. It's great that you and your cousin are so close. The babies look beautiful!!
Noelle: What a cute kitty! You sound like you've been pretty busy. Hubby and I are thinking about taking Ashley to Hawaii for her birthday in October. I know that's the time when you make plans to come over here. Let me know when Michael's fall break is and maybe we can coordinate a great visit.
Hello to everyone else. Hope everyone can post soon. You are all missed.
06-09-2007, 01:21 AM
We spent today running and looking at different things and also with the family. I thought I would share these pics with you. One is myself and my Dad, another is my younger sister, myself and my Dad. My sister, Carole is 10 years younger than I am. And my Dad will be 88 in November. He is really doing pretty good for having that quadruple heart bypass this past September, and also having diabetes. I'm sure you can tell by looking at him he is just so fun loving and ornery!!
The other picture is of Praying Hands carved in stone. This is in Webb City, MO. The man who does this lives here in Webb City and has a really neat gallery called Bittersweet Galleries. He is a fantastic artist and has done many paintings. I just thought that these praying hands were just Beautiful and wanted to share this photo with you.
Tomorrow will be our last day here and we are planning on leaving Sunday to go back to Colorado. Last night was a little scary since they sounded the tornado sirens abut 11:30pm! We went inside my Dad's house and waited it out but nothing ever happened. We did have some wind and rain but not as bad as it was the night before!
Again I hope to sit down when we get back home and spend time just replying to everyone. Everyone have a good weekend and I'll catch you again when we get home. Take care everyone, Karen
06-11-2007, 11:41 PM
I hope everyone is ok. It's been so quiet.
Karen: Your pictures are great. What a beautiful family. I hope your trip home is enjoyable and safe.
We leave in just 3 days for Seattle, and in 4 days we leave on our cruise. I can't believe how fast the time has gone.
Take care everyone.
06-13-2007, 05:20 PM
Hello ladies, how's everyone doing? Where IS everyone? I haven't been the best poster either but I think of you guys everyday. We're enjoying the summer here and taking advantage of cheap (or free) entertainment (museums, zoos, etc). We've been bowling alot at the army base and it costs almost half of what it does outside. I dunno if I'm getting any better, but we have fun anyway.
Karen, I love your pictures and I have to say, you don't look 10 years older than your sister, you look great. You must get those good genes from your dad, he doesn't look like he's approaching 90 at all! Love love love the prayer hands, that must've been pretty awesome to see in person. Are you back home yet?
Cal, again, hope you have a wonderful vacation and cruise, enjoy yourself!
Angie, how are things with you? Hope Brit and Corey are behaving themselves. I'm sure you can probably enjoy your pool at this time of year.
Kempy, haven't heard from you since your pool got put in :swim:-- I don't blame you, that's great fun and great exercise. You'll have one heck of a tan too.
Hi to Dips, Virgo, cw, and everyone else lurking. Come out and say hi!
06-14-2007, 08:37 PM
Hi every one! Hope everyone is doing well!
Noelle! I'm out in Hawaii too!! Haha! Nice to meet you!
Just wanted to drop in and wish everyone the best!

Hi guys!! I have been busy this week. My Mom had her surgery on Tuesday to remove the lump on her breast. She is supposed to find out today if they got all of the cancer. Thankfully she has decided to take the next 6 weeks off from work for her radiation treatments. She works nights and couldnt do that and get enough sleep for work plus it is supposed to make her tired really easy. I am praying that they got it all. She said that if it comes back she is having them remove the breast. After seeing what she went through on Tuesday if I ever get cancer they are going to have to remove my breast before I let them do to me what they did to her. I get queasy just thinking about it.
Diet is nonexistent. I went through a phase again of thinking about gastric bypass but it is just so scary to think about actually doing. But I am realistic that my history isnt good with keeping any weight off so I dont know what to do.
Jay's Birthday is on Monday and I bought him a Lafuma recliner chair for camping. He has been wanting one so I tried to surprise him but now he knows he has something since we pulled in the yard as Fed Ex was dropping it off.  I made him look away while I ran it in the house. hahaha
That is about it for me. Sorry to be gone so long again.
06-16-2007, 12:28 PM
Hello Everyone! Well, we are back at home safe ad sound! We got home Tuesday night. It has been kind of hectic around here trying to get the stuff unloaded from the 5th wheel and catching up laundry! :( I still need to get out and do some cleaning and shampoo the carpets in the 5th wheel and get it advertised again.
Tim found out that he can breathe so much easier back in MO. that we ended up looking at lots of houses while we were there and have decided to put our home up for sale and move back there. He was saying that if we stay out here he will probably have to go on oxygen full time within a year :( so guess we will be moving when the house sells. Which is fine with me--- all my family is back there! :)
Angie, glad your Mom came through the surgery fine. Remember we will keep you and your family in our thought and prayers.
4thebigday, Welcome:welcome2: I think that you will find us to be a pretty good group!! Hope you come back and visit us often.
Noelle, it sounds like you have been keeping pretty busy. How is that new kitty? That was sure a cute picture.
Cal-- you must have already left for your cruise--- hope you have a wonderful tme!
Dips, Kempy, Virgo, cw and anybody else I missed a great big HELLO to you and hope you are having a good day.
Here are a couple pictures --- Ginger likes to POP up and watch what is going on once in awhile while we are traveling and she hates "red semi trucks" She just goes crazy and barks if any of them are by us or pass us!! Sissy just takes it easy and curls up in her carseat until we stop. Then she is ready to get out, take care of business and get back in to her naps!! The other picture is of my Dad with my sister's Chihuahua! Since my Dad has been over there since October of last year she has really decided to just make his lap her own!! My sister wanted to name her a Mexican name but could only think of Tequila so named her Tequie!! (Teekee) She is pretty cute but is getting up there in age --- I think she has like 4 teeth left. But still does good.
Well, I put on 4 pounds while I was on vacation but I'm happy it wasn't more!! I think I'm going to give the South Beach diet a try and see if I can't get some of that off real fast! I also need to get my WATP's dvd's out and start walking again.
Well, guess I'd better get busy. I need to give Ginger and Sissy baths and we are supposed to have thunderstorms this afternoon. Best get that done now or Ginger will be under the bed!!
Take care everyone. Karen

Hello ladies, how are you all doing? I slaved all day yesterday with cleaning, shopping and cooking for Father's Day and Rick was out ALL DAY on his boat :(. At least I got to see my dad enjoy my efforts. I made beef and veggie shish kabobs (what kind of word is that anyway???) and then I made Japanese style fried chicken. My sister brought over some king crab legs and another made some salmon and watercress soup. Rick left the house at 7:00 a.m. and never made it back until 8:00 pm--I told him he owed Michael big time for missing Father's Day! I found a shirt for my dad on ebay that said "Santos" (it was a Spanish Christian shirt) and another shirt for Rick that said "Grab your balls, we're going bowling!" I have to go and pick up a gift card that I bought for Rick for dad's day but didn't pick up yet, it's for a 90 minute massage therapy session at a new salon that opened up.
Karen, love your pics and your tales of the road. Glad you made it home safely. I imagine the cost of living in MO will be less than CO. That is great that you can be nearer to family all the way around. Hope you find a nice place out there for yours and Tim's sake.
Angie, glad to hear about mom, I'm keeping her in my prayers. And Happy birthday to Jay :hb: :hat: :celebrate: --did he catch me up yet? Girl, you know, even if you're not on a "diet" per se, we still like to hear from you. If it makes you feel any better, I'm not doing WW at the moment. I used up my 13 week coupons that my insurance company offers at a reduced rate and then I petered out.... but that's pretty much par for the course for me too eh? I know once I look at pictures of myself I will probably get the mojo back.
 4thebigday, Hi! Nice to see you around.
Gotta get back to work. Hope more of you can stop in. I miss you guys.

I just got this in an email and I thought it was to neat not to share!! Be back later...... Karen
This is just fun!
THE LAND OF SANDRA DEE
Long ago and far away,
In a land that time forgot,
Before the days of Dylan
Or the dawn of Camelot.
There lived a race of innocents,
And they were you and me,
Long ago and far away
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
Oh, there was truth and goodness
In that land where we were born,
Where navels were for oranges,
And Peyton Place was porn.
For Ike was in the White House,
And Hoss was on TV,
And God was in his heaven
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
We longed for love and romance,
And waited for the prince,
And Eddie Fisher married Liz,
And no one's seen him since.
We danced to "Little Darlin'",
And sang to "Stagger Lee"
And cried for Buddy Holly
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
Only girls wore earrings then,
And three was one too many,
And only boys wore flat-top cuts,
Except for Jean McKinney.
And only in our wildest dreams
Did we expect to see
A boy named George with Lipstick
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
We fell for Frankie Avalon,
Annette was oh, so nice,
And when they made a movie,
They never made it twice.
We didn't have a Star Trek Five,
Or Psycho Two and Three,
Or Rocky-Rambo Twenty
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
Miss Kitty had a heart of gold,
And Chester had a limp,
And Reagan was a Democrat
Whose co-star was a chimp.
We had a Mr. Wizard,
But not a Mr T,
And Oprah couldn't talk yet
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
We had our share of heroes,
We never thought they'd go,
At least not Bobby Darin,
Or Marilyn Monroe.
For youth was still eternal,
And life was yet to be,
And Elvis was forever,
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
We'd never heard of microwaves,
Or telephones in cars,
And babies might be bottle-fed,
But they were not grown in jars.
And pumping iron got wrinkles out,
And "gay" meant fancy-free,
And dorms were never coed
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
We hadn't seen enough of jets
To talk about the lag,
And microchips were what was left
At the bottom of the bag.
And Hardware was a box of nails,
And bytes came from a flea,
And rocket ships were fiction
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
Buicks came with portholes,
And side shows came with freaks,
And bathing suits came big enough
To cover both your cheeks.
And Coke came just in bottles,
And skirts came to the knee,
And Castro came to power
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
We had no Crest with fluoride,
We had no Hill Street Blues,
We all wore superstructure bras
Designed by Howard Hughes.
We had no patterned pantyhose
Or Lipton herbal tea
Or prime-time ads for condoms
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
And middle-aged was thirty-five
And old was forty-three,
And ancient were our parents
In the Land of Sandra Dee.
But all things have a season,
Or so we've heard them say,
And now instead of Maybelline
We swear by Retin-A.
And they send us invitations
To join AARP,
We've come a long way, baby,
>From the Land of Sandra Dee.
So now we face a brave new world
In slightly larger jeans,
And wonder why they're using
Smaller print in magazines.
And we tell our children's children
Of the way it used to be,
Long ago and far away
In the Land of Sandra Dee.

Hi, ladies! Last time I looked in was a week ago (6-14) & like me, apparently, everyone else is busy, too. My reunion is this Saturday (6-23), & we're all going crazy getting last minute details taken care of. Today I got myself 3 outfits for the price of one! Tomorrow I get my hair done, then Saturday's the "all-day sucker"!
Anyway, just thought I'd check in & say hello. Karen, hope your travels were safe, good, and just plain fun! Kempy, keep listening to that Cajun music! Dips, hope your finals & term papers are over for now (if not, that they will be soon)--and that you did well! Mele, thanks for being such a grand cheerleader, & hope you & Michael are enjoying more time together! Calnative, hope your walking is still going strong & that you get the teaching job you want! cw and angie, hope that things are going better, in all ways.
Enjoy your summer - keep exercising & eating right!
P.S.--Boy, that was funny. One reason I hadn't been posting (or feeling too guilty about not posting more) was that I did not have any posts after 6-1. That's why my messages above were so sketchy, since I only had the very first two posts for this thread to read. Without any other ones, I just assumed everyone else had been occupied, too. Now I can catch up more, since once I posted this, all of a sudden every post after 6-1 appeared. As my mother used to say, "Very mysterious"...
06-22-2007, 11:41 AM
Well, this morning I am pretty happy--- the scales are down 5 pounds this week! I was hoping that by being on the South Beach for awhile would help me lose the 4 pounds that I gained on vacation and I guess it did! I dont' know how long I will stay with South Beach since it's kind of expensive to buy all the stuff you need but I want to keep it up for at least another week. That would make a full 2 weeks which is the Phase 1 plan. Then I'll probably switch back to the way I was doing before.
Still haven't got back into any kind of formal exercise plan yet but I'm doing lots of bending, stretching and all that just cleaning and getting the house ready to show.
Our grandkids are coming tonight to spend the weekend with us while their Mom ad Dad go to Texas for the weekend. That should keep me pretty busy too. As of right now, I'm planning on getting back into my walking starting on Monday. We'll see how that goes.
How is everybody doing? Virgo-- so good to hear from you again. I was wondering where you went. How are you?
Noelle, how is that new kitty? That was such a cute pic of him/her.
Well, I need to get busy here before the day gets away from me. Helll to everyone and I'm looking forward to hearing how everyone is doing. Karen
06-24-2007, 12:38 AM
I know it's been a while since I've posted. I've been busy. I started working a part-time job. I've really enjoyed it, and it's gotten me out of the house, which always helps. I can't say i've lost wt. since I've been working, but I haven't been gaining. I think I'm the only WW member still going that's gaining wt., instead of losing. We also got a new pomeranian from the shelter. He's really adorable, but not house trained. I can't wait until he's completely house trained, and I don't have to keep a constant watch on him when he's not in his kennel.
Karen, I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip. I loved your pics. I hope you enjoy your grandkids tonight. My grandbaby's at her other grandparents' house tonight. I miss her when I don't see her everyday. And :carrot::dance::broc::cheer: on the wt. loss.
Virgo, I hope you have so much fun at your reunion. I've been to all of mine, except my 25th. I enjoyed them all.
Noelle, Angie, Cal, Dips, Kemp, hello. I hope all is well with you. :grouphug:
06-24-2007, 12:34 PM
CW---- WOW! A new puppy!!! Got to see pictures!!! What did you name him? Can you tell I like poms??? I get so excited when someone gets a new one.
Congrats on your new job. I had thought of getting a job but right now my JOB is getting this house ready to show and sell!! If things haven't changed in a few weeks I will probably go back to Wendy's where I was a manager and see if I can come back for awhile. I don't want to get anything to permanent since we are wanting to move back to MO. But fast food is always hiring and I wouldn't feel too bad about leaving if we sell.
I still have the grandkids and they have been so good!! Jade is going to be in the 6th grade and TJ (Todd Jr.) is going into the 3rd. I was proud of myself last night--- I made them and Tim a bunch of spaghetti and I never even touched it!! I just had some fish fillets and some spinach. PAT ON THE BACK!!! Tonight it will be grilled chicken breast, salad and some veggie. I haven't figured that one out yet.
Hello to everyone and I will try to get back on later to see what is going on.
Have a good day. Karen
06-25-2007, 02:07 AM
Just a short note to say I'm back!!! Wonderful trip; a few snags, but nothing to ruin it. We got back late Friday night and yesterday I went to Calif for my Aunt and Uncle's 50th wedding anniversary party. Great to see all the family. I got back this evening, and I am bushed.
I'll post more later, and will post some pics soon.
06-25-2007, 07:24 PM
Hi ladies, not much going on here. I had a bout w/food poisoning last week, kept me out of commission for a few days. We had had dinner at Chili's restaurant on Wednesday evening, then by mid-morning the next day at work I was absolutely ill. I had to go home and just be miserable there for a few days. Long doses of rest, diet 7up and soda crackers seemed to make me feel better. I'm still not 100% but seem to be getting my appetite back, which isn't a good thing  Anyway, sorry to be so scarce around here, it's just the lazy days of summer ya know?
Rick found a stray dog running on the highway and he stopped and picked it up--no we didn't keep this one, although it was sure tempting. He looked like our chihuahua mix Selena, only smaller, probably about 4 lbs, similar markings to her, mostly white with black spots. His head was black though, and he looked more like a chihuahua maybe mini-dachsund mix. I had to bring him to the pound to see if his owner would maybe claim him there.
Cal, glad to hear you had a good trip. Will wait to see pics. My parents ARE going on an AK cruise and sooner than they expected. They are going with our church group in the fall so it should be great for them to be with people they know. How nice that you got to visit w/family at the 50th anniversary too. So how many more days of summer vacation do you have left? I know you know the exact number  just kidding!
Karen, how nice you have your grandbabies with you. And I'll second that pat-on-the-back for sticking to your SB plan :bravo: . I hope you find that happy medium w/a part-time job :crossed:. As for my kitten, she is doing just fine. Growing really fast and is as rambunctious as kittens are. In fact, she found her way into my bedroom somehow, and then proceeded to tear a hole in one of my throw pillows and when I got back, there was little polyester stuffing balls all over my bed--such a naughty kitty.
Virgo, I hope you enjoyed your reunion, I know you put lots of time and attention into it. Any surprises about classmates you've seen?
cw, congrats on the new pup! I can't believe you found him at a shelter. Our shelter (we have one main one only) usually only has bigger dogs that are pit-mixes, any little dogs that come in go fast. So what's its name?
Hello to all, hope you all have a great day
06-25-2007, 11:35 PM
Hello, ladies! Good to be back for a while. July's going to be a busy month for me too, but at least the 40th reunion on 6-23 went beautifully! There were a few snafus, but everything worked out very well. I'll report on that at greater length next post. Today I'll catch up on my greetings!
:wel3fc: 4thebigday! This is a very nice group of ladies--I think you'll like us. We're open-minded, experienced, and fun; we're also good listeners. When is your big day? We'll encourage you in your quest for fitness as you get ready to walk down the aisle! WELCOME!!
dips'n'twists, don't know where you are; I presume finals & papers are over with for this term. Hope you're doing well. Keep on dancing, my dear!
calnative, Congrats on the fine Alaska cruise (how I envy you!!) and the 50th Anniversary celebration for your aunt & uncle. Thanks for missing those of us who weren't posting--we appreciated your kind words.
cwneeds2lose--Congrats on the part-time job! I've got to start working again, too. As to your being in WW but not losing: Maybe I've already bored you with this story, but the way I found out my thyroid wasn't working (2 years ago) was when I joined WW & gained instead of losing. See your doc, get that blood work done. The meds are an easy fix, & I was able to lose again. Besides, if your thyroid ISN'T producing hormone anymore, you could start losing your hair (fortunately, I caught mine in time)--do check it out, dear. It's too important an organ; your entire metabolism is regulated by that little thing. Unchecked hypothyroid also raises cholesterol to DANGEROUS levels; one of the clues my doctor saw in the test results was that my total cholesterol was 415!! My thinking was off (brain fuzzy/cloudy), I was chilled easily; I just thought "Menopause is kicking my ***!" BUT THAT WASN'T IT! Once I got my levothyroxine, everything got better. Good luck--I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted!
angieME, I've also got good thoughts and prayers going for you, your Mom & rest of family, too, for strength & guidance. I noticed you've lost almost 20 pounds--good for you! You can do it--it's just not that easy, alas. But you're working it. As I like to say: Keep on keepin' on!
kempy, how're you doing? Must be nice to have that brand new beautiful pool to enjoy! I trust you and your family are making the most of it! Hope to hear from you soon!
Karen31, glad you had such a good trip! Those are nice pictures of you, your Sis & Dad, doggies, also the praying hands. Where is Webb City, MO, exactly? Relative to where your relatives live, I mean. When you wrote that Tim was breathing more easily down there, it sounds like Missouri "is the place you oughta be", so I hope you find someplace nice there! And congrats on the 5 pound weight loss--YAY!
melekalikimaka, I sure was sorry about your round of food poisoning. What a bummer! Glad to know you're feeling better. Thanks for asking about my reunion. I'll tell you all about it the next time I post. But in order for that not to be super-long, I wanted to say my proper "Hello"s, first!
All right, ladies! Summer is here! Let's stay properly hydrated and "Slip, Slop, Slap", as the Aussies say: Slip on a long-sleeved shirt, Slop on some sunscreen, and Slap on a hat--especially those of you in the year-long sunny climes. Skin cancer is nothing to laugh about. Sorry to be the "medical pest" this post, but we Virgos are noted for our health awareness, also for our caring for others. Reminding you to take care is my way of doing both!
Love you all, will write again soon!

I'm still working on posting pics. I still haven't figured out how to post on this site, but I'll get them out somehow soon.
Our trip was absolutely wonderful. It was much cooler in Alaska this time than it was the last time we went. I think the warmest day got up to 65. Mostly it was in the 50's.
We started the trip missing our flight to Seattle. We were at the airport for 2 1/2 hours and still missed the flight because of security...they only had 4 lines open (less than half that were available). Instead of leaving Phoenix at 7:30am we left at 1:00pm. Unfortunately, we did not get to see much of Seattle because we got there so late and were tired. The next day we caught our ship without trouble and found our stateroom great!! I loved the balcony.
Halfway through the trip, Ashley got sick. She had strep and I had to take her to the ship's doctor. They don't do any kind of insurance, so I had to pay $300 for the visit and meds. OUCH!! She did have a high fever...105. You do what you must. We had traveler's insurance so we will get it back. Half way through the next day she was feeling much better. In Prince Rupert, BC, I took her off the ship only long enough to take her picture by the sign and then took her back on. The end of the trip was marred by the loss of one piece of baggage. The counter person at the airport put the wrong tag on one of our bags. He said he fixed it, but we still don't have our bag.
We had 4 ports of call...3 where we actually got off the ship.
In Juneau we went to the Mendenhall Glacier. It was cold and beautiful. Some of the icebergs in the lake were a beautiful blue. We also did some shopping in Juneau and took the tram to the top of Mt Roberts for spectacular views of the city and valley.
In Skagway we rented a car and drove into the mountains to British Columbia and the Yukon. We drove all the way to Whitehorse, Yukon; even drove a little of the Alaska Highway again. It was a great drive and nice to get away from the crowds. And of course we did some shopping, much to my husband's dismay.
In Tracy Arm Fjord we stayed on the ship, but the captain stopped the ship at one point near a large glacier so we could take pictures and enjoy the sights. There was so much ice that we couldn't get too close. Later in the summer the ships will be able to get closer to the glacier.
Prince Rupert, British Columbia was our last port. It was raining there, but we still walked around the area and enjoyed the views...especially the eagles. The bald eagles were like pigeons there; they were everywhere. It was awesome to see so many. Of course, more shopping.
We got back to Seattle on June 22 and flew home that same afternoon. I would love to go again, but next time I want to do a one-way cruise and go back up to Denali Park for a few days.
Now we are back in the heat (113 yesterday). I have 34 days until I go back to school (40 until my little hooligans come back).
Right now it's nice to kick back, relax, and prepare for our nephew to visit from Italy in 2 weeks.
Hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to get pics out soon.

I think this might work. I'm trying to post a picture. If it works it is a picture of Ashley and Alberto on our ship before we left Seattle.

I'm not sure how to post more than one picture though. I'll try a couple more, but I'll put even more on photobucket a little later one.

These pictures are of Alberto & Ashley at Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau and Ashley being dramatic at the Macauley Salmon Hatchery in Juneau.

Hello Everbody!! Gosh, it seems so quiet here lately-- everyone must be busy doing Summer activities.
Well, I was pretty happy yesterday when I got on the scales and lost 2 more pounds this week!! YAY!! :carrot: I just want to get out of the 160's so bad!! Maybe this week it will happen!
Cal-- Great pictures and Ashley is really a cutie!! I'll bet that was a wonderful trip! My older brother used to live over on Kodiak and they enjoyed it. Their daughter had gym class the last class of the day and when she walked home from school her hair would be froze when she got home. And that was in the Spring!! But they liked it.
Virgo-- Glad your reunon went well. It sounds like you did a lot of work to make it all come in to play. I llok forward to hearing more about it.
Webb City, MO is in the southwest corner of MO. It is just across the Kansas line. The closest city is Joplin. All my family live in Webb City except for my older brother and he lives in Carterville. I know it kind of sounds like a Mayberry!!! But I really like it back there and hope to sell our home soon so we can get back there.
We had the grandkids until Tuesday night so I was pretty "grandma'd" out!! But enjoyed having them with us. Here is a picture of the two of them. Jade is 11 and TJ is 9. They were starting to get a little restless after 5 days of being here. All their friends live down in Colorado Springs. But TJ kept busy catching "Mountain grasshoppers" to take home with him :D I think he ended up having 45 of them!! :) I know Mom was so happy!! Jade did a lot on her math workbook. She wants to be ready for the 6th grade when it starts.
Well, I sure hope everyone has a good weekend and I'll check back later to see what's going on. Take care everyone!! Karen
