Hi, my name is Christina. I had gastric bypass surgery March 9th. Since then I have lost 67lbs, and I have been doing great. No complications, and no issues with food. Well anything sweet I have avoided, so not sure how that would go down.

My problem is that the week prior to my period now I have gained 7lbs. I am really freaking out as my diet has not changed. Has anyone experienced PMS bloat to this degree? Any ideas on how to get rid of it? I can not take a diruetic, because my potassium level is marginally low. I drink about 80oz of water a day. My cycle is due to come on Monday, but with this gain I pray I am not pregnant. I can't see how that could happen, but this wouldn't be the first accidental pregnancy in the world.
:o

TIA for any input. I am glad I found this forum. I am going to go look around and see what info I can possibly gather form you all.

nice to meet you christina! here's what i'm thinking - fat holds a lot of estrogen. and with that enormous weight loss [yay!!!!!], you might have some extra estrogen floating around your system, and i'm thinking that this might have an effect on the water weight.

but i also gotta warn you FOR YOUR OWN GOOD please don't get pregnant just yet. ok?

We have worked very hard to make sure that doesn't happen. I would hate myself for life if I got pregnant right now knowing the risks to the baby it would cause. My husband would have to have super powers to make that happen. :dizzy:

Thankfully I am down a pound now, and I feel a bit less bloated, so I am very grateful. Tomorrow I should be starting my cycle, so I hope I can get back to where I was before the gain, and then continue plugging forward. I never knew fat contained estrogen. That is very interesting.

Thanks for the info.

Hope everything is now all right with you. How's your weight coming down now? I'll be so glad when I can say my surgery is over and hopefully watch it come down.
Keep us posted. We all care.

Blessings.

Thank you very much. It turned out I had a potassium deficiency. This caused me to bloat up more than normal given I was pms'ing as well. I have it regulated now, and I have lost 13lbs since. It feels good seeing the scale go the other way. I like this much better.

I agree with what jiffypop said...it sounds like water weight due to the estrogen. Also, don't be too suprised if your cycles (if normal before) get a little out of whack as you shrink.

Good luck & congrats!
