Poor Tip is having computer problems - something to do with some male person installing virus software. Anyhow, she says she is no longer registered in 3FC but we will try to get that straightened out.

We still don't know what happened! My DH installed a upgraded virus scan with a firewall and a system which ID's email senders last night. This AM the computer CRASHED! DH spent the morning with the techs from Dell, talking tech language. Fortunately, he works with in a similar position so he understood. I've lost many links from my favorites, but that's life.

There is a whole lot of problems with virus's, impersonatiors and general trouble-makers at another forum I go to. We can't understand how that could have been the trouble cause I refuse to open ANY attachments

Anyway...all is all right for now.

Tippy, glad to see you. I just went through a whole computer Virus nightmare. I'm sure every single one of my e-mail contacts and all of THEIR address lists hate me for spreading the darned thing. With this one, you didn't even need to open the attachment. It somehow managed to attach itself to my address list and screwed up everything royally.
Sure glad that's all straightened out and I now have (I hope) a reliable anti-virus scanner so those evil messages will be stopped in their tracks.

Tippy, would this be the W32.Badtrans.B@MM virus? I just read on antivirus.com that you don't have to open the attachment to get this one :(

It does not require the email receiver to open the attachment for it to execute. It uses a known vulnerability in Internet Explorer-based email clients (Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express) to automatically execute the file attachment. This is also known as Automatic Execution of Embedded MIME type.

That's a scary thought. I also had it, but luckily just for a day or two. The mail server on our server has a filter that traps outgoing viruses and returns them to sender. Odd, I can receive them but I just can't send them! I was shocked to find several email come back to me that said they could not be sent due to the virus that was attached. I knew I had not sent those messages so I researched it and got rid of it. I also never open attachments, so this threw me too.

But I'm really glad all has worked out for you and you are back online :)

I also had trouble with the virus. Got a new virus protector it now even scans each e-mail that goes out.... Those things are awful.....

I'm going to mentiuon this to DH! We lost so much with the crash. That will teach us to back up everything. It's enough to make the Pope swear!
