Now I have another question....

Are you able to eat a variety of fruits and veggies after bypass?

Oh, no fruits and veggies:( Now, I know this can not be true.

Are the fruits and veggies that seem to agree with you the ones that are less fiberous????

I'm a big salad eater and I never peel my fruits excepts for citrus fruits.....I'm wondering if the higher fiber fruits and veggies agree with your tummy after surgery?????

Wait - don't panic. RIGHT AFTER SURGERY you have to be careful. you're healing, and your tiny tummy is very very sensitive. when you start eating them again - with the emphasis on the VEGGIES, not the fruit [carbs, ya know!], you're right - the soft, less fibrous ones. small amounts. raw tomatoes, cucumbers. cooked green beans [soft!].

BUT, as time goes on, you'll be able to eat different fruits and veggies, cooked in all kinds of ways, and raw. you'll always have to keep an eye on the glycemic index of everything, but that's not a big deal.

as for peeling fruit. well, i guess it's time for the ANNUAL PEEL YOUR PEACHES AND NECTARINES lecture. i didn't do that for a week about 8 months after my surgery. and bit into several luscious ones over that time. and the peel got all balled up and STUCK in the outlet, sealing it off COMPLETELY. i threw up for 30 straight hours [an overnight stay in the hospital so they could re-hydrate me]. couldn't even keep water down!

so, they had to put in the endoscope and pop it out.

LESSON: at least at first DON'T EAT PEACH AND NECTARINE SKIN. and now, 5 years and more out, i can do ANYTHING, as long as i chew it well, and take small bites. that'll never stop.

I can now(almost 10 months out) eat (well cooked) broccoli again
Last night at my PT someoen brought in a luscious looking veggie pizza with spinach broc all the major players that I love ( I Swear I should be sprout from the jolly green Giant Commercials) I took off most of the onions
Another thing you might want to peel are green apples
Depending on the type of apple I can eat the skin but Green ones send me into inconcievable pain

oh yeah - i had a HUGE problem with onions. and anything that was cooked with them. it lasted 6 months - of terrible pain. just one of those things that irritated the un-healed tummy!

No problems with any kinds of fruits or veggies. Love them even more after surgery!

It took 12 to 14 weeks after surgery before I could eat Fruits and veggies that i was REALLY MISSING. I love them now even more and most times cant get enough (feel too full) I craved Salad about 2 weeks after surgery and could not wait til I could get them down. Watermelon is the Best for me for fruit but I really love apples, Mandrin oranges drained. No issues after week 14 with any fruits and veggies. Now Meats are another story. My last blood test showed my cholesterol down from 227 before surgery to 130 as of 2 months ago and will need blood work again in 3 weeks.
