I went to an early childhood educators conference over the weekend. The keynote speaker was Vincent Kituku. He is from Kenya, moved to the US about 10 years ago. He is an author and motivational speaker. He has also lost a great deal of weight in the last few years. He did not say how much, but from looking at him, I would guess at least 60 lbs or more. A lot of the things that he said made a lot of sense to me, and I wanted to share a few key points with all of you.

* What you do for yourself will get you by. What you do for others will get you ahead.
*Choose to be happy by simplifying your life.
*You are the CEO of your own life.
*Let your spouse and children know that they are your best friends by the way you treat them.
*To start any project, the first step is to convince your mind that you are capable.
*Ask, ask, and ask questions.
*Climb career and social ladders cautiously while holding tight to family ties.
*Heal yourself by helping others heal from their hurts.
*Sliding is not falling. Setbacks can be the set up for a better future.
*Use natural resources wisely. They are not as renewable as they seem to be.
*The best revenge is to do what your critics said you couldn't.
*Live in a manner that others will be sorry when you are not there.

Katie - some good stuff there. Here's one I read that I liked and reminded me to set some small, short-term goals!

Mile by mile it's a trial; yard by yard it's hard; but inch by inch it's a cinch.

these are great katie!

here's a quote that i found and really like:
"Challenges make you discover things about yourself that you never really knew."

i like this one alot lately because i've been challenging myself to workout 3x's a week and i'm actually doing it! i really have never been a huge "avid" exercise person, and i'm still not by any means, but i'm doing this and i'm quite proud of myself.

Thanks for posting those, Katie! The only one that didn't really resonate with me was this one:

*What you do for yourself will get you by. What you do for others will get you ahead.

As women and mothers we all do so much for others and don't tend to make ourselves a priority. I think it is important that we take care of ourselves first, like by losing weight, so that we are better able to take care of the other people in our lives. That's just my 2 cents :).
