Here's a place for May thoughts about SlimFast.

Welcome to chubbybutt and congratulations on your first pound loss.

Lime Tree mentioned the links given in the March thread being helpful, so here they are again.

"The plan impressed me because of the Consumer Reports magazine finding that SlimFast was the second most effective mainstream weight loss plan ( behind only Weight Watchers.

The comparisons on how long SlimFast Optima shakes help control hunger also got my attention. Here's the url -" - Whittlin

Hi everyone!!
I hope you dont mind if I ask you some questions about slimfast. Today I started slimfast, and I dont know if im doing it right, on there website, it gives me a meal plan, but I just think I need a break from food, so I had 4 shakes today, the low carb ones, and a lean and green meal. Or 1 meal a day, maybe eggs for breakfast sometimes. Sort of how medifast does it, and I have a shake every 2-3 hours. My calories add up to about 900-1000, I wont go below 900. I havent been hungy so far today, but is this effective? My carbs are about 50g, and I think thats low enough to go into ketosis. Im not sure how I feel about that, but it works for people on medifast. I just get soo confused on all this stuff. I have an appointment with a nutritionist in a couple of days, I dont even know if thats the kind of doctor im supposed to see, or should I just go to my regular doctor? Im rambling. Im sorry.

Happy May Whittlin, Stacie and all other SlimFast-ers! I've lost 2 more pounds, which is good, but I'd like some suggestions from anyone else doing SF.

I'm having trouble staying on the plan on the weekends because our family eats out alot. Can you tell me what you do on the weekends as opposed to during the week?

Also, I find the week before TOM, I start craving things and I'm more hungry, which has been my biggest downfall in the past and throws me off track. How do you handle this?

I appreciate your suggestions as we have some special events coming up in June and July that I'd like to lose some weight for.

Lime Tree, I've found that if I plan meals and even prepare them in advance I'll stick with plan through TOM. But if I leave it to chance I won't. When others are around you more than usual it really can mess up your plans, I know. Again, you've just got to get ahead of them. If they're going to want to go out to eat, have a ready answer of a restaurant where you know you can find the right thing to eat.

Stacie, I only know about SlimFast's plan, with all the veggies, fruits along with shakes, and then an additional meal. I remember hearing about the Atkins Diet putting dieters into ketosis during the first few weeks because of the lack of carbs, so I would have thought that SlimFast wouldn't do that since there are still carbs even in Low-Carb SlimFast? Maybe there is another thread somewhere in which Medifast is a topic and people have experience with this?

I was happy to have lost that additional pound last week. Change is happening more slowly, of course, now that I'm nearing goal but it's steady and satisfying. I'm doing some rescheduling with my exercise and changing that around a little as far as times.

Hey y'all. I just started slimfast today. The box of snacks says for my weight I should drink two shakes with a 200 calorie food each. The box of shakes says a shake alone for breakfast and a shake with food for lunch. Which do you do? I weigh over 200.

05-09-2007, 11:51 AM
Welcome, Erin Jayne. Definitely check out this page for the real scoop on what the plan would be for you -

My opinion is that I always like to have a shake WITH something else, if for no other reason than it seems more fun/interesting. So I put a half-sandwich with a shake for breakfast, maybe a tuna salad with a shake for lunch. That sort of thing, and will also sometimes blend my snack of banana or strawberries INTO the shake just to make the meal more interesting. I have not yet found another Slim-Fast product I like as much as the shakes I make from the powder and skim milk. (Of course, not always convenient!)

Hope everyone's doing well! Anyone gotten any compliments lately? Found that you like the taste of a different flavor SlimFast bar or snack? Had an especially good day, or a day you wish you could do-over? We understand!

I do look forward to the shakes with something than without. of course, the last time I tried Slim Fast was four years ago, and then it was just a shake for breakfast and a shake for lunch so I didn't like that. Whittlin, half a sandwich for breakfast with the shake sounds great. After all, I don't want to lose weight too fast.

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to pop in and say "Hi" to all the slim fasters...Sorry I haven't posted in awhile (since April). But I've been doing Great!! I am now down 24 lbs!! I'm still drinking a slim fast shake once a day normally for breakfast, but I have also started another diet too, called the Shangri-La diet. It has been working very well for me.

I'm glad to see that some of the slim fasters from March and April are still sticking to the plan and losing weight!! Great Job!!

I am not on the Slimfast plan per say..But most weekday mornings, since I don't have time to make an actual breakfast, I like to have the shakes. They are so yummy and satisfying for me! I like using the powdered stuff (Milk Chocolate or Chocolate Royale for me!) with skim milk..Some mornings I will toss it in the blender with a few strawberries or half a banana and make a smoothie. Yum!

Happy Mothers Day! :flow1:

Hi Slimfasters! I'm back slimfasting after some time off. I'm really glad there is a suppoprt group again. Let's keep it going!

I have lost 2.8lbs this week and I am thrilled!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I like the SF Capuccino blended with a small banana , delish and very filling.

Hey there!

I'm trying Slim Fast again! Like some others, I tried the Slim Fast diet back when it was Shake/Shake/Sensible meal. When it was that way, I just about starved to death and only managed to stick to it for two or three days before I BINGED!!

I'm hoping that since the plan includes more food/calorie ranges now for the different weight ranges that I'll be able to stick to it better. The 4/5 fruits and veggies/day will be where I have a problem!

I'm saving two of my snack options for as soon as I get home from work, because that's when I tend to do the most of my damaging eating.

My first mini goal is to lose 3 pounds by May 20th! (I was slightly up when I weighed this morning due to TOM, so that goal shouldn't be as unrealistic as it sounds!)

Wish me luck and I'll do the same for y'all!

Congrats, akacutie2006 on all your success! I know just how good it feels to have 24 pounds you're NOT carrying around any more! How's your sister doing?

You pretty much described my favorite SlimFast, too, sockmonkey70. Hope you'll keep checking in with us.

southerndeb, just jump back in - whoever has the first thing to say for the month starts the thread and away we go. I enjoyed reading the months threads back when I wasn't even posting yet and remember your posts.

Hi again, bargoo. How's it going? Maybe the banana will make the cappuchino more appealing to me - I still don't care for it much!

Nice to have you with us, 4myself. That's an interesting idea to try about the evening snacks. Good luck for the 20th - yes, sounds do-able.

I stayed on plan today and got in my exercise, so I'm feeling good about the week.

05-14-2007, 11:04 PM
Of course you could use the banana with chocolate or vanilla.

Whittlin, half a sandwich for breakfast with the shake sounds great. After all, I don't want to lose weight too fast.

The updated Slim Fast plan seems much more nutritionally sound. I, too, tried it first back in the day (1997 or '98) when it was "shake for breakfast, shake for lunch, sensible dinner." I think I lasted a week, then couldn't take a liquid diet anymore and ended up kind of gorging and gained the 5 lbs back PLUS some.

I'm starting out with Slim Fast for a couple weeks but will probably shift to standard calorie counting, so I'm on here to see how others are doing it.

I have a question. For my range (over 200 lbs right now) my box of Meal on-the Go bars, says I should have one MotG, 1 meal combination, 1 sensible meal, 5 fruits or veggies, and 4 snacks. Can the fruits/veggies be incorporated into the snacks, or are the snacks in addition to the fruit/veg requirements? I've just been incorporating the fruits/veggies into the snacks.

05-15-2007, 02:26 PM
I use slimfast along with calorie counting. Works for me.

05-17-2007, 04:44 AM
Whittlin: Thanks for the encouragement!! It feels great to be 28 lbs down now!!! :carrot: But at this rate I wont' have any clothes left to fit me soon!! Then agian, it could be nice buying a whole new wardrobe. My sister is not doing so well, she's gained back some weight, and she's not too happy about it. She's been avoiding this site, but I've been trying to encourage her to start slim fast hopefully she does and gets back on track!!

Welcome, luvmyfam. I think you are right - as I understand it a fruit is one of the options for our snacks, not a separate thing. But the way the box says it, that does seem like a puzzle. Of course, lots of fresh veggies are so light on the calories, etc., that it's probably cool to have extras of them anyway. When I doubt myself about what I should be eating I glance back at the visual day-at-a-glance for my weight and usually I can figure out how I want to handle the day. I am so totally a visual learner I sort of need to SEE it.

I wanted to tell bargoo the can of cappuchino SF I blended with a half banana yesterday morning was delish. I was about to run out of milk and said to myself it was the perfect time to try it. I definitely want to keep those on hand. I didn't taste the can at all, either! (ducking and running from SF can fans! ;) )

Helpful switch-up for me lately - I've been saving one SlimFast shake for evening snack, about an hour before I go to bed. I had been searching for an evening snack that was satisfying but didn't ruin my day. Usually if I'd had 2 shakes, they were at breakfast and lunch. One day when I'd substituted a BIG salad for lunch, I decided to place a second shake at evening snack, and it totally squashed my munchies and let me go to bed feeling very satisfied. (Evenings are my tough time)

I am just teetering on another pound loss! Thought it might be today. Maybe if I hold my breath or stand on one foot... ...

Poor akacutie2006, having to go shopping! (smile)

05-17-2007, 05:27 PM
Just wanted to check in.....

I weighed this morning and have lost 5 pounds! I'm sure a lot of that was water and some of it was lost easily because I gained it so quickly, but still--5pounds is great for me!

05-18-2007, 10:18 PM
whittlin glad you enjoyed the cappucino banana blend.I have one banana so will use it again in the AM.Makes it seem like a milkshake, I am going to try it with vanilla or chocolate next.

5 pounds - Woo Hoo 4myself! :broc:

I stood on one foot and held my breath, but scale says :nono: maybe tomorrow! :mag:

05-19-2007, 01:19 PM
whitlin, don't forget to spit out your chewing gum, and remember to exhale and if you wear contacts take tem out.

05-22-2007, 10:48 AM
Hey, there's a half-pound loss! The ticker here won't acknowledge half-pounds, but the graph at the SlimFast site does, so  I got that affirmation today!

I guess maybe it's true what they say about milk before bedtime because having my slimfast shake as an hour-before-bed snack seems to be helping me sleep well? Does that make any sense?

05-24-2007, 05:15 PM
I spent 4 days in Branson (MO) with Mom, so I've not lost any weight since my last check-in. Back on track this week and week-end, though, so hopefully I'll have some positive results next week!

(Current weight 278)

good afternoon everyone
im going to try slimfast after hearing that it ranked 2 or 3 with consumer digest i cant remember which at the moment im 5ft and wi at 200 and ive tried just about everything i thought slimfast was just a gimmick until the report came out so i want to give it a try! my dh is a truck driver and i go with him alot in the summer we have a fridge and a micro in the truck so i can keep shakes in the truck while going down the road so im excited and hope to get to know you all
any suggestion for daily meals would really be a help

05-29-2007, 01:33 PM
Well, I lied!

I was back on track through the week last week, but my DH and I took an unexpected, unplanned trip over the long week-end. The result? I ate out almost every meal (and loved every bit of it!) and gained a pound!

Really and truly back on track this time!

05-30-2007, 02:01 PM
I was having trouble sleeping and tried having Slimfast in the evening after dinner instead of at noon. Slept like a rock. I believe I was hungry! I have been doing this for several days. I am not eating more, just eating at different times.

05-31-2007, 11:09 AM

I can't sleep if I'm hungry, either! I think it's great that you found a solution that works for you and is sensible!!!!!

Hello All,

So glad to find a Slim-Fast support! I've been on the plan since May 23/07 and so far I'm down about 7lbs. I did Slim-Fast back in 2001 and it was quite a bit more restrictive than it is now, but in 4 months I lost 40 lbs. I kept the weight off until about 2005 and then started eating fast food and junk too much and back came the weight. Darn!
So I'm back at it and am enjoying it very much. I use the website daily and log my water intake, my calories, all food/drink consumption as well as my daily activity/exercise. I love that you can use it to log everything and look back at a 7 day average of nutritional info to see where you need to make changes, etc.
If you use the website try the dinner recipes, the pasta w/ peanut sauce and the bbq chicken with veggies is amazing. So far I haven't found a single thing that I didn't like. I'm currently doing the following:
Breakfast: Shake (sometimes with fruit that I log, sometimes without)
Snack 1: I used whatever is in my daily meal plan, but I sometimes substitute with an exchange on the site
Lunch: Meal bar or shake & light food (it's on the site)
Snack 2: Same as snack 1
Dinner: I have used one of their recipes every day and so far love them all!
Snack 3: Same as snack 1
I make sure to drink at LEAST 2 Litres of water a day plus sometimes some calorie wise drinks (diet soda/sugar free kool-aid/crystal light)
I'm making every effort to get at least 30 min of activity every day.
I hope everyone is using the page as there is lots of useful stuff there and again the recipes are outstanding!
Cheers, Tamara
