Weight Loss Surgery - I'm getting my surgery tomorrow- and I'm nervous

Hi everyone. I just joined this site after being referred by a friend. I just wanted to speak a little bit about what I'll be going through.

Tomorrow I'm scheduled for my Lap-Band procedure after already losing 19 lbs. The day has finally come. I'm anxious and excited, but at the same time nervous and tense. I often wonder what it will be like after it's all said and done. You read about all the horror stories and many unsuccessful surgeries, and I just wonder if I will be another statistic.

At the same time you hear about all the success stories which is what keeps me striving for the next day.

I decided to go with the Lap-Band after I had my mind dead-set on getting the bypass, just because of the complications and risk-factors are much lower. I keep second guessing myself and wondering if I'm making the right decision. I've had years to think about this, but more recently 6 months since I started the whole process.

There's no turning back once I get there tomorrow. I've changed my whole mindset and attitude towards my old eating habits, but the exercise is another question. I was thinking that after I lost some initial weight, it would be easier. I still have that lazy streak.

Anyways, I am rambling. I really enjoy this forum and all the great advice you beautiful women have to give. Wish me luck and I will keep everyone posted!

Melissa

good luck with your surgery. Worry about the excerising when you feel better, I'm sure you will feel like it when the weight starts coming off. Tomorrow is the begining of the new and improved you!!!

First of all, :wel3fc:

As being fairly newly banded myself, I can understand where you are coming from. What I can say is that you won't need to worry about exercising or even the weight loss stage for at least the first six weeks following surgery. That will be your time to heal; hence, your transition periods from clear liquid to liquid to soft diet and then to solid food.

Your first "fill" will probably come around the six week period after surgery (I was banded March 22; my first fill will be May 7). As for when you can exercise, it is best to check with your surgeon as far as that is concerned, since everyone is different.

Meanwhile, keep us updated on your progress, and best wishes for tomorrow!

I will be staying over-night. Hopefully I won't have any post-operative complications with my breathing after the anestesia (I have asthma and mild sleep-apnea, so it is a bit of a concern).

I've been waiting for this surgery date forever it seems- 12 hours to a new me!!! :carrot:
