Yeesh... that's a tough one. I tend to have that problem when going over to the in-laws' on the weekend. Generally, I make sure that hosts know that I'm watching what I'm eating. Being up-front about it will help prevent awkward situations and hurt feelings, like "Oh... you mean you don't want to try this cheesecake that I spent hours making? It's my special recipe and everything!" Other than that, keep in mind that it won't kill you to have a little bit of foods that aren't on your plan. If they serve ham, for example, have a small piece, and make up for it with lots of water to counter the sodium. And there are usually veggies at most dinners, so if you fill your plate with those, it won't look like you're avoiding the cooking. Again, if you let them know about it, people will generally understand. And don't fret about it too much; don't let anything get in the way of you enjoying yourself with your husband and new friends!
