Since you just met them, I would save a protein, starch, fat and a veggie or two and then wing it. You can save a fruit or two if there will be wine, or you can claim to be the designated driver if you want. The biggest problem I've found when going to other people's homes for dinner is that there just aren't enough veggies. Usually just one. As far as the dinner goes, if you just stick as close to plan as you can, they probably won't even notice that you didn't have seconds. Just push your food around a bit. They'll probably be too busy with conversation and their own food that they won't even notice.

Yeesh... that's a tough one. I tend to have that problem when going over to the in-laws' on the weekend. Generally, I make sure that hosts know that I'm watching what I'm eating. Being up-front about it will help prevent awkward situations and hurt feelings, like "Oh... you mean you don't want to try this cheesecake that I spent hours making? It's my special recipe and everything!" Other than that, keep in mind that it won't kill you to have a little bit of foods that aren't on your plan. If they serve ham, for example, have a small piece, and make up for it with lots of water to counter the sodium. And there are usually veggies at most dinners, so if you fill your plate with those, it won't look like you're avoiding the cooking. Again, if you let them know about it, people will generally understand. And don't fret about it too much; don't let anything get in the way of you enjoying yourself with your husband and new friends! Good luck!

thanks so much gals.. i guess the biggest thing that worries me is that it'll be like a really high fat meal or very starchy... i guess maybe lots of water and exercise will help...
