YP1 04-01-2007, 01:31 PM I think I'll go for 125 again, as March will be a bit more disrupted, I'm going away for a long weekend in Germany over Easter, and my mother's visiting which will cut down on the potential for long runs. I'm hopeful that it will be nearer 150, if not 178 this month, but as I'm aiming for an average over the year of 125 per month, I'll stick with that. No running today, I'm recovering from yesterday. ennay 04-01-2007, 01:38 PM OK my MARCH summary was 73/65 (I love that my elapsed time was 13 hours 00 minutes and 01 seconds..tee hee) Not bad for a month recovering from PT and a weeks worth of vacation. I still have some to go to catch up to where I want to be for the year, but i think this month I will stay conservative and say 85 miles. (boy there are gonna have to be a LOT of miles this summer!) I'm off the mark! ArtsyGirl 04-02-2007, 05:10 PM Helen-I wondered if you had any advice-my DH ran his 2nd half marathon Sunday. He's planning on the running the full Detroit Marathon in October. His hips bothered him during and after his run. Any suggestions for stretches or strenghtening exercises? I'm asking you since your pretty experienced in those long runs. Thanks. YP1 04-02-2007, 05:15 PM I had hip issues last year, the thing that made the most difference to me was actually running more and building my base - after my marathon I dropped down to doing more 6 - 7 mile runs rather than a couple of 5s and a long one each week, having a few solid months at that level rather than constantly trying to run further and further each week seemed to settle it a bit, and now I'm marathon training again it's absolutely fine. I'm not stretching any more now, I've just got more of a base to build on. It's a temptation a lot of us are guilty of (including me) but I do think it is a lot easier to do a full if you've got really comfortable with the half marathon distance first. I had only done two halves when I did my full marathon, and I suffered - now I've done 6 or 7 (plus a couple of longer races) I feel much more prepared for it, and I'm nowhere near as sore as last time round. I was going to say that I won't be hitting the heady heights of the 170s this month, then I realised that I'm doing a charity walk on Sunday that will probably come out somewhere between 25 and 30 miles, so I actually won't be too far off if I do a couple of shorter runs I had planned as well as that.
