It's a new month :carrot: and summer's around the corner... What will you do?
04-01-2007, 01:39 PM
Step up to DB shoulder press 4 x 15, using 3kgs :strong:
Single DB front squat 4 x 10 , using 3 kgs :lifter:
Alternate lunges 4 x 10, using 3 kgs :barbell:
Seated chest press 4 x 10 , using 3 kgs

This is my Monday new program at the gym, which I started last week.
Have been able to do all of it, but the run, walk thing on the tread mill, that is a work in progress at this time. Am still walking on 6.5 .:smoking: MMMMM could this be the reason lol.
My goal for today!!!Today, I am going to write down everything I stuff in this mouth of mine and all my exercise :write:
04-01-2007, 01:43 PM
Get back in the swing of things now that PT is no longer stealing all my gym time (although it is still stealing most of the time AT the gym)
Run 4-5 days/week - I'm at 4 most weeks now, my relay team will be starting an evening trail run weather permitting, still not sure if I am ready for the terrain or pace.
Gym 2 days - cycling, pt exercises and if time weights (I HATE that they have been pushed to the back burner but pt has to come first)
Yoga 1 day/week
Today I will try to do an easy run ~ 4-5, still having to work around dh taking family back to the airport today and tomorrow.
04-01-2007, 02:37 PM
My plans for the month is to run 3-4x/week, swim 2x/week and weight train 3-4x/week... I want to start biking too, I don't have my new bike yet, but I may use my old one... I just feel the need to start biking asap!!
:swim: 30 mins
04-01-2007, 05:08 PM
I'm going to be active for at least 20 minutes a day. I'm joining the walk in at work this month and will walk in the three mile route at least 3 days a week.
I will also have my friend Kate take me to her gym and will get her help on feeling comfortable with weight lifting.
04-01-2007, 05:51 PM
i plan to walk/run on my treadmill at least 4x week
and pilates at least3x week
04-01-2007, 06:30 PM
I'm going easy on goals this month because of the whole wedding thing - but I have at least 2 full weeks that will be "normal routine", then a week where I can probably slide in some routine..then the cruise, where I've given myself a rough exercise goal of 360 min (1 hour, 6 days out of 10). I may get more on the cruise, depending. Soo...
1000 minutes in April. More modest than most months, but I think its closer to feasible.
Starting off with 60 min elliptical today.
04-01-2007, 07:13 PM
5.1 mile run today
04-01-2007, 08:09 PM
This month I plan to keep up with my running, maybe even stepping it up to 80 miles total. I also want to make sure I do strength training at least twice a week and yoga at least once a week.
I didn't think I'd want to work out today because I ran my 10k yesterday, but I had all sorts of energy, so I did 20 minutes of yoga, 40 minutes of cardio kickboxing, and 40 minutes of upper body and ab work.
04-01-2007, 11:19 PM
Ok, girls - I must admit...I hate to exercise! I never used to, but since I've gotten heavy it hurts my joints. I find it hard to fit exercise into my day, but I am going to try to walk around the track for 20 - 30 minutes everyday if possible. I have restless leg syndrome, so I can't exercise at night, it has to be during the day. This can create a problem because my work day is really unpredictable. I'm going to really try this week, though, I do feel better mentally when I get moving. Thanks for a motivation thread!
04-01-2007, 11:38 PM
My plan for April is to get:
45 min's of cardio 5 days a week.
At least 2 day's of strength training.
Add some lap swimming in there somewhere's..
Do the Billy Blanks Bootcamp using them rubber band thingies the ENTIRE time without stopping!
Get the Bike fixed so I can be a Biker "chick" too! :carrot:
04-02-2007, 08:44 AM
babsyW -- I have restless leg syndrome too, I find exercise aleviates the restlessness... I totally understand not working out at night specially something that works your legs and lower body. I have started swimming and that makes me sleep like a baby... I also take calcium and magnesium before bed...
Today -- leg workout :strong:
04-02-2007, 09:26 AM
Thank you Ilene - I have not met another soul that has RLS! Are you on any medication? I take Mirapex right now, but it is starting to become ineffective so I think that I will have to switch to Requip.
Maybe I will try swimming. We have a terrific pool at the High School. As for today...I WILL walk! No excuses!
Hope everyone has a Great day!
04-02-2007, 10:28 AM
Babs -- I don't take meds, I guess I'm not that bad, of course my doctor wanted to put me on meds, but I wanted to try Calcium Magnesium at night before bed first, it works for me and I feel the difference when I forget take that supplement.
04-02-2007, 08:14 PM
45 min UB/abs
04-02-2007, 09:36 PM
Worked back and abs.
30 mins elliptical.
15 mins treadmill (alt running and walking on incline).
04-02-2007, 10:51 PM
2 days of full-body weight training
5 days of at least 60 min of cardio
1 day yoga
---- in any combo, on any day
goal of 1400 minutes
4/2: 35 min cross trainer, 35 min incline treadmill
04-03-2007, 12:03 AM
60 min elliptical
04-03-2007, 02:11 PM
Back on track today:
20 min's warm up and Low impact Aerobics
(Had a hard time getting it going today.}
40 min's High Step Aerobics
15 min's Leg work, Cruches, pushups
5 min's stretching.
It is So true (at least for me) that I should NEVER take 2 day's in a row of rest because I just can't get it going again on the 3rd day and I even skiped it yesterday and I felt like poo. Never again.....
04-03-2007, 04:37 PM
45 minutes elliptical.
(I think I might have given up on the 60 mins elliptical...It's boring, and since I'm trying to add weight training to my routine, I figure I probably forgo the full 60 minutes on days I do a bit of lifting.)
Btw: I tried to do 15 mins on the treadmill after my 45 on the elliptical yesterday, but my lower back was quite sore from exercising it earlier...running was uncomfortable for my back. Is this to be expected when first working lower back muscles?
04-03-2007, 05:51 PM
3 miles on a track today -- 2 miles running, 1 mile walking
04-03-2007, 06:37 PM
30 min st. bike, 20 min PT, 10 min arms---then daycare called....time up!
04-03-2007, 09:35 PM
1 Hour Weight Training
3 miles on treadmill in 30:43
04-03-2007, 11:23 PM
baffled -- I really don't think that your lower back should be uncomfortable after a back workout... you may have over done it though and feeling it a bit when running... running does workout the lower back quite a bit, I often feel sore a bit there after a run, but not after a back work out... Stretching helps a lot, try doing the yoga pose called the "the cat" afterwards running or doing a back workout, just get on your hands and knees, look up while arching your back, then look all the way down trying to visualise your naval touching you spine when your round out your back, do this very slowly....
Edited to add: Here is a good description and pictures for "The Cat pose" (http://www.abc-of-yoga.com/yogapractice/cat.asp)
04-04-2007, 12:40 AM
Thanks Illene. I'll give that a go.
I was slightly concerned because the ache in my lower back didn't feel at all like a muscle usually does when I've given it a good seeing to. On the other hand, I've literally *never* consciously worked that muscle before, and my abs are weak, so it might just be the way it goes and I just don't know it. I just *do not* want to pull that muscle, or I'll be out of commission for ages!

04-04-2007, 02:11 AM
Sorry I am a day late this is Tuesday's work out
Full Body Step up to DB Shoulder Press 4 X 15 3 kg Fast

I must admit I could not do the walk/run on the treadmill. My legs were just so sore after Monday. So I did a 1/2 hour walk on level 6. And I could kill the so & so who invented the stepper. It belongs in a torture chamber.Had a good day food wise, stuck to my plan (mostly) which is good for me!
Have a great day people
what a duh!!brain I am I am late because I put my post in the wrong thread!!!! So I have copied it into here.:?: :faint: :frypan:
04-04-2007, 07:50 PM
Slept most of the day, me and the fiance got into a bad fight last night over his lack of support in what I am trying to do here. Needless to say, it got ugly, the wedding is off, and instead of working out today, I slpet the day away. The good news is, hardly any calories went in...
04-04-2007, 07:54 PM

04-04-2007, 11:29 PM
50 min elliptical
04-05-2007, 12:47 AM
Ugh. Failed experiment today. I tried to go to the gym after dinner, instead of before lunch. Totally didn't work. As it turns out, doing cardio after eating a giant bowl of home made pho (incredibly delicious and surprisingly low in calories) is impossible. I just couldn't do it.
So, my poor showing for today:
Worked my arms.
15 minutes elliptical.
5 minutes treadmill (before admitting defeat).
Tomorrow I will work my legs and back, and do 45 minutes elliptical. And then I'll go and wait tables in the evening.
04-05-2007, 04:19 AM
Baffled - PM me your pho recipe? I'm addicted but always go out for it...
And its so filling - no wonder you couldn't do your cardio after.
04-05-2007, 02:17 PM
30 minute hard stationary bike, PT & upper body
04-05-2007, 05:34 PM
45 mins elliptical
Worked back, abs and legs.

Hi there! Iíve been getting motivation walking, and then logging my minutes on the Lime Walk Out. Iíve been logging the time I spend walking & itís certainly a great reminder of how small steps all add up to a healthier and greener lifestyle. You find out how all kinds of great info about calories, steps taken, how you're helping the env, all just by logging your minutes! They're working towards getting us to be healthier & greener by walking and help us reach our collective goal of 24,900 miles--the equivalent to an entire lap around the earth!
Its on http://www.lime.com/walkout
They also have food and health articles, and a meditation rooms that was pretty fun!
04-05-2007, 08:39 PM
3.1 mile treadmill run
04-05-2007, 10:17 PM
Ran 3 miles on treadmill
35 minutes weight training
04-06-2007, 01:31 AM
Hi Austingirl! Welcome to our little corner.
I am taking accountability for the fact that my sole exercise today involved carrying, assemblying, packing, and tying 75 individual lucky bamboo favors. oy.
04-06-2007, 04:45 AM
Oh Dear!!! NO EXERCISE today. Ate too much, slept too much, drank too much.
Oh sod it!!!!!! another day tomorrow, have a good one people.
04-06-2007, 05:04 PM
Mary - You'll get right back at it tomorrow.
50 min total body strength (UB/LB/abs).
My arms and back will be EXPOSED in a dress in 2 weeks!
04-06-2007, 08:02 PM
No formal exercise for me today. My mum is coming for a 5-day visit so I've spent several hours cleaning the house, and I took my dog on a nice 45 minute hike.
A question for those of you who do weights--The hip adductor is *killing* my inner thigh muscles. I've been doing tons of stretching, and yesterday I dropped the weight from 50 to 35 pounds to give myself a break, but my inner thigh muscles are still really sore and tight. It's uncomfortable to walk! What am I missing??? This is only two days of working my legs--should I expect the discomfort to diminish over time?
04-06-2007, 10:29 PM
Baffled - how many reps can you do on the machine before your muscles give out? I don't do the abductor/adductor machines because my trainer said they don't do much, and this depends on your goals, but my trainer advised that the weight is too high if you can't do 10 reps for 2-3 sets...some of the other people on here do different programs with lower/higher numbers of reps...
Stupid gym closed when I was in the middle of my workout...holiday weekend, but I was unaware. Got in 35 min on the elliptical before they kicked us out.
04-07-2007, 04:27 AM
Hey Mandalinn, I can do 3 sets of 10-12 reps at 50 pounds on the adductor. It gets tough before the end, but I can finish the lot. Doing 3 sets of 12 at 35 was easy--that's why I'm flummoxed by all the muscle pain! If your trainer says it's a waste of time, perhaps I won't bother with the ab/adductor at all. My primary goal with working my legs is to keep my quads strong enough to spare my knees when I do cardio. Other than that, I only work my legs because it seems slightly irrational to only do upper-body work. But, in truth, the only reason I've started doing weights at all is because I want my arms to look sculpted in tank tops this summer. Given that my weight training goal is sculpted arms, I suddenly realize that it makes no sense to kill my inner thighs on the stupid adductor machine. Especially if your trainer said it's not that useful. The trainer I met with last week was a bit of a twit--I don't have much respect for her opinion.
My mum is now in town, but I still plan to hit the gym tomorrow. I'll do 45 mins of cardio and work my arms. Gym will be closed on Sunday for the holiday, and since I skipped today, I MUST go tomorrow.
04-07-2007, 02:05 PM
Dress fitting got cancelled (alterations lady is sick) so, instead of going back to bed like I wanted, Sarah and I were off to the gym like good girls.
60 min elliptical
Baffled - yeah, I don't know anything other than what my trainer said, but he was really critical of those particular machines. A little soreness is fine, but if you are having trouble *walking*, its time to lay off a little. Lunges did that to me for a while (i have bad knees, and there was something funky that wasn't strong enough to support me doing a full lunge, so by the second set every time, I had this stabbing pain in my quad and the next day i could barely walk and my knees were unstable) so I cut my reps way down (even though I could technically complete them) and built back up.
04-07-2007, 09:59 PM
Friday: 60 minutes elliptical, 10 minutes abs
Today: 45 minutes of weight training then 5 miles treadmill in 56:39
I'm so excited that was my first time running 5 mile straight. I did it on the the treadmill though b/c the weather here in texas is so yucky! Rainy and in the 40's ugghh. My next 5 mile run will be on weds and hopefully the weather will clear up by then. hope ya'll have a great easter without too many treats!

My day yesterday, Gym is shut today so nothing going on but a walk to the store. I don't use those leg machines because I too was told that they are not much good. And prefer to do the lunges using weights. What I have found is that the stepper is making a lot of differance to my legs and butt. I hate the darn thing, but it's really making me work.Nice rest today, but back to the gym in the morning before I get too lazy.Have a great day people.:carrot:
04-09-2007, 03:29 PM

Still losing LBs though, so that's going well.....
04-12-2007, 03:42 AM

Feeling really yuck.Cough. cough. hack. hack, headache: Be good.
04-12-2007, 06:19 PM
Hello, my name is Dana and I used to work out like crazy, dance and martial arts mainly. Well that changed drastically after having a baby and I have never gotton back on track and my health and body are suffering for it. I'm looking for a place to post and be accountable. I got a gym membership a couple months ago but I have been slacking big time. I think that seeing how others are doing and fitting it into their lives, as well as having a place to record my successes and failures might do the trick. So, would you mind if I join in on your thread? I could sure use the motivatioin.
04-12-2007, 06:28 PM
:welcome: Dana  the more the merrier!
04-12-2007, 06:32 PM
Dana - hop on in! We love having more people to help us ALL stay accountable.
55 on the stairclimber (had to get it on my lunch break - hair trial tonight!)
And to see the payoff of all of my accountability...(and because I like showing it off....). Yes, I am hiding my bandaged, taped-up, stitched up finger behind my back..teeheehee.
04-12-2007, 07:11 PM
Oh, Amanda you look sooooo sooooo pretty  ...
What happened to your arm?
04-12-2007, 07:17 PM
Remember 4 months or so ago, when I was stitched because I sliced my finger open on a kitchen knife?
Yeah. that. Again. We were taking bets on how i would manage to injure myself within days of the wedding. It definitely won't be healed by then completely but supposedly i get my stitches out on wednesday, so we'll have a 2-day window.
I am such a dweeb.
04-12-2007, 07:25 PM
OMG that made me shudder
04-13-2007, 09:33 AM
Welcome Dana (from another Dana! )
Amanda, you look beautiful! Please stay away from those knives until after the wedding! heheh
04-13-2007, 10:10 AM
First time at the gym since last Friday, quite unusual for me, this weather is getting me down :( ... Did an UBWO ...
04-13-2007, 10:28 AM
Hello ladies. It's all in the middle of April, but I need HELP. I really need someone to flog me if I don't get it together this week, but I guess some self-motivation is in order with a little help from you guys.
I've fallen off exercise plan so for the next two weeks I'm going to go to the gym four days a week.
Monday morning - Low Impact Aerobics class
Tuesday - depending on work schedule either morning Cardio & Weights or evening Step 101
Thursday - same as above
Friday morning - Studio Cycling
I'll start there and add strength training in May.
Thanks you guys --- Vicky
04-13-2007, 01:17 PM
Mandalinn you look AWESOME in your dress!!! all your hard work has paid off! congratulations!!!!
Weds: 4 miles on treadmil + abs = 55 minutes
HR monitor = 577 calories burned
Thurs: weight training + 3 miles on treadmill = 85 minutes
HR monitor = 662 calories burned
04-13-2007, 01:32 PM
Mandalinn you look incredible!!! Look at those shoulders and collar bones! When is your wedding?
I've had a rotten week. I haven't been to the gym since last Thursday. My mum was in town and she monopolised my time so I really couldn't get away to go to the gym. On her last day with me, I came down with the flu and spent the next few days on the couch. My flu is gone now, but I have had incredible pain in my neck, shoulders and lower back (with accompanying headache) for the last few days, and it only seems to be getting worse. Yuck. I don't think I can manage a proper workout, but I think I'll go to the gym and just *walk* on the treadmill for a minimum of 30 mins and a goal of 60. I'm hoping a little gentle exercise will help to straighten out whatever is going on with my neck/shoulders/back/head.
04-13-2007, 02:13 PM
Baffled - can you touch your chin to your chest? neck pain plus flu symptoms can be a red flag for some scary things....
thanks everyone for the compliments! The wedding is April 21st...next weekend! Eek! I am getting in 5 workouts this week, and plan 4-5 for next week. Our joint bachelorette is this weekend so I'll post pictures if no one is too...well...drunk to remember to take them.
04-13-2007, 02:58 PM
Mandalinn, now you've worried me. Are you referring to meningitis? I can touch my chin to my chest--does this mean I'm ok??? I have been feeling nauseaous for the last 3 or so days too, but I haven't actually thrown up, and I have some other odd symptoms. I don't have health insurance so I *never* go to the doctor's. I'd have to be pretty certain that I was really ill to do that... Crikey!
04-13-2007, 03:12 PM
Sorry for the worry. If your neck is so stiff you can't touch your chin to your chest, you have to worry about meningitis, so keep an eye on it. If you can though, you should be fine and its just normal body aches.
Probably just standard issue flu but do watch that neck and if you spike a high fever or get stiffer, its time to eat the money and go in.
04-13-2007, 05:35 PM
Hey all and thanks for the welcome. This week I will go to the gym a minimum of three times. That's my goal and I'm sticking to it!
Hopefully with it written here I will feel more inclined to do it!
04-14-2007, 12:04 AM
Dana - keep posting - and know we're all watching and waiting for your 3 posts this week!
60 strong minutes on elliptical (which is time #4 for me, out of a goal of 5 or 6 this week)
04-14-2007, 06:39 PM
50 min elliptical...lots of dancing at bachelorette party tonight.
04-14-2007, 08:03 PM
Alrighty. I'm feeling much better today so I took myself off to the gym instead of just *vowing* to go to the gym. I did an easy 45 minutes walking on the treadmill at an incline. I'm not sure that my heart rate became signiificantly elevated, or that I burned a meaningful number of calories, but since I've been sick (and still have some lingering meningitis) I figured I could get away with an ok-it's-time-to-get-back-on-track-but-still-take-it-easy workout. I do feel a bit lightheaded, now that I've finished, so I think I did the right thing.
Tomorrow will be better!
04-15-2007, 07:05 PM
baffled, I hope you feel 100% soon. Good job getting to the gym anyway, but make sure you take care of yourself!
I've been out of town for spring break since the 6th, so I have some catching up to do. I managed to squeeze in some exercise:
Fri, 4/6: nothing
Sat, 4/7: 2.4 mile treadmill run
Sun, 4/8: 4.8 mile run
Mon, 4/9: nothing
Tues, 4/10: 40 min walk -- VERY hilly -- in the mountains of Tennessee!
Wed, 4/11: nothing
Thurs, 4/12: 3.2 mile run
Fri, 4/13: 3 mile run
Sat, 4/14: nothing
today: 45 minute step aerobics video
04-16-2007, 04:33 PM
Alrighty! A *real* workout today!
45 mins elliptical.
Worked my arms.
First real workout in 10 days and it feels fantastic! And now I get to eat lunch. Hooray!

Nothing since Saturday, and that was only a silly game of tennis with my girlfriend... neither of us, of course, are tennis players, so that barely counts!
Ugh.. I have to get back on track tonight...
Amanda, aren't the wedding induced panic attacks and last minute details counted as exercise? :) Good luck getting through this week, can't wait to see wedding pictures by the way.. where are the bachelorette ones anyway?
04-18-2007, 10:35 AM
This morning Legs :strong: and running on the dreadmill I was only able to last 25 mins. because of boredom... I hate the dreadmill :tread:

And I guess I forgot to post here for Monday...60 min elliptical. So if I go Monday, today, thursday, and friday, thats 4 times...not too shabby. If I don't...well...I'm sort of going to have to be over it.

I don't know what my problem is today. I had to *drag* myself kicking and screaming to the gym, and once I got there, I could only force myself to do 20 minutes elliptical before I lost my determination to make myself do it. I did hit that dip machine though--wow! It completely kicked my butt, or more properly, my arms, even set with an 120lb counter-weight. My upper-body is pretty pathetic.
Hope you all did/do better today than I!
04-18-2007, 11:01 PM
Amanda, you two look great, and so happy!
Diva, the lunges/squats until it hurt made me cringe.. sounsd like a great workout though.
baffled, I hear you loud and clear. Sometimes it's all i can do to not throw a tantrum at the gym. Not usually.. but lately, i've been terrible.
I finally got to the darn gym today, although it was really tempting to use the "owww, i gave my butt a bruise today by bumping it with the car door " excuse.

Hello fellow fitness buddies - I have just joined this site and thought this would be a good post to join so I can be more accountable about my exercise routine. I am just getting use to exercising again, basically I have been a couch potato forever, so I joined a gym with a pool, and this week I have been to 3 aqua aerobics classes. Today's class was fantastic - it was done in the deep water and concentrated on your core. Anyway I also did a pilates workout video too this week.
Next week, I hope to step it up a bit to include working out with the treadmill, arc trainer and bike as well as aqua, swim laps, and pilates.
Looking forward to getting to know all of you in the next few months as I get to my goal.
04-20-2007, 02:42 PM
