Why do they tell you only 2 cups of coffee or tea? I need at least three to make it through my shift, and what about green tea instead or as a substitute for some of your water intake?any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Debbie -- From what I can remember, I have always heard that caffeine slows down the fat burning process. What I sometimes do is order a half-caff and then have two of them...that way it only equals the caffeine of one coffee. You can drink green tea too, but really anything with caffeine could slow your losses.

Oh dear! I didn't know that caffeine slows down weight loss. I hope my two cups before 7 AM won't hurt too much. I also find that I can trick myself into thinking that my afternoon tea has caffeine, which it doesn't. :)

Evette, Does it have caffeine?or does the energy come from another source?

What are the low-carb monster drinks? How do they count on the plan? I could stand to have a little more energy!

Oh, if you ask the COD I'm sure they will say the caffeine counts, regardless of the source. Caffeine is a diuretic, which (I think) using too much would cause you to dehydrate, which in turn, would cause you to retain any water you do have. Sort of like how your body goes into starvation mode with too little calories, too little water can turn your body to survival mode too.

When I started I went from 4-6 cans of diet coke a day and another 3 or so glasses at home to the 2 a day recommended. I had a headache that no amount of aspirin, tylenol or motrin would take away for 9 days.

After close to a year on plan, I probably have between 2-4/day. But 4 is a very heavy day for me. You will get used to it, but with everything so new on the plan, if the caffeine is your vice, that's minimal. You can slowly reduce it in your own time. An extra cup of coffee isn't going to stall your losses. Again, my opinion, and I have no training in any type of nutrition or medicine.

Oh Cassi, you don't give yourself enough credit. After being on the plan for a year, you have lots of experience, which I trust more than any training the COD counselors may have.

Cassi - Your diet coke additction sounds a lot like my diet pepsi one, LOL. When I am being *good* i.e. POP, I only allow myself to switch to diet pepsi after I have fulfilled my h2o requirement for the day.

The caffeine DT's are a scary thing. The week-long headache was a real eye opener for me. It's a different feeling than any other headache I have ever had.

on the subject of energy drinks--I haven't tried the Monster but I am a big fan of the Diet Rockstar! Anything to get through the day sometimes.

Haha - Evette, my hubby is ADDICTED to the Lo-Carb Monsters. We buy them in bulk at Costco. I swear, he drinks them like I drink my water. :dizzy:

Talk about scary, we had x-mas help that started working for me on Day 2 of the caffiene detox! :drill: He thought I was an eliteish moddy snobby ***** for the first few weeks he knew me. I spent a month moody, irrational, and overly emotional. When I went back to drinking coffee, at 1/4 the strength that I used to, my boss actually did a happy dance. :coffee:  :coffee:

Though, ironically when I was off Caffiene I was dropping weight like crazy. Maybe the answer to getting the scale moving again, is to quit the caffiene again.

Then again, I could pass on being a moody, irrattional, and overly emotional ***** too! ;)

I've been informed by my boss and coworkers that I'm not allowed to EVER again give up coffee for Lent. Apparently it was an even bigger sacrifice for them . . . .

Juliemarie - LOL!!

I'm scared of the energy drinks and their long-term effects, but maybe this is the secret to Evette's great success!

I found this interesting article on the affect of caffeine on weightloss...it's written by a caffeine free coffee manufacturer, so should be taken with a grain of salt I think:

Cassi, I think I'm going to change my goal to 118. Since I don't have a cod, I'm gonna have to play maintainance by ear. Thanks for everything everyone,

Joni, I wish it was the secret to my weight loss! I really make sure that I drink an equal amount of water for every monster I drink. Maybe that's my secret? I don't know.

Wow..118? Thats like at the bottom of the healthy weight range for your height, no? I know for me, the first time I lost a ton of weight, i couldnt be satisfied with the number I was at and kept going lower and lower. Then I couldnt maintain it, but you are obviously not me and Im sure you will be fine...just dont go any lower, it seems dangerous, but just my VERY humble opinion:) COngrats to you!

Wow, if LoCarb Monster is the key, I think it will be selling through the roof with Evette as a spokesperson!

AWWW Kim--you are too good to me! I will have to try the Monster though--can't hurt.

Evette--you look amazing--whatever you decide we all just want you to be healthy and content!

JM--too funny--I don't drink a lot of coffee but I do "need" my morning cup. My parents have always had an afternoon cup so now when I am with them I think I need one too! Parents! DH thinks its good only because then I can stay up until 10PM--lol.

Angie--that was an interesting article. I've heard that about diet coke drinkers, etc., that it makes you want to eat more.

(warning--pat on the back) I now probably have one diet soda a week--if that--but I probably drink too much Crystal lite now--it's always something! The new cherry pomegranite (sp) is YUM.

Kimphin

Cherry Pomegranate? Oooh, I'll have to look for that one, sounds yummy.

JM - LOL about not being allowed to give up coffee! I once had a boss who used to quit smoking at least once a week. It was awful.... on US! One morning we all came in and she had thrown all of the plants in the garbage because they were giving her a headache...????...

Angie - good article - the body is a complex machine.

Evette - You really do look great. Watch out for you this summer!

Cherry pomegranate sounds yummy-right now I'm on a peach iced tea kick!

I'm so terrible first thing in the morning! I want coffee and email and NO chatter! I'm not really grumpy per se-just quiet. My boss however-comes in flying half the time-talking a mile a minute about experiments and what we should do. Most of the time I don't get half of what he's talking about-so then I do get grumpy and we end up arguing. So-for awhile he would come in and ask me if I'd had coffee yet-if I hadn't (and he could usually tell by the look on my face) he would leave and come back 15 or 20 minutes later.

We are so like an old married couple-I've worked for him for almost 10 years.

And before anyone says i'm a lousy employee-I purposely come into work almost 30 minutes early so that I can have my morning time . . . .

Boo'sMom
03-27-2007, 06:42 PM
on the ch/pom crystal lite--added bonus I guess--the box says "Immunity" and claims to boost your immunity with vitamins A,C and E--may be bunk but it tastes great

JM--no one would accuse you of being a lousy employee! At least you recognize your "weakness" for lack of better word!

Kim--plants???? aren't they natural air purifiers???
