I have my fantasy league draft today- I've got a good keeper infield - David Ortiz (fortunately he counts as a 1st baseman- thank you interleague play), Chase Utley, Jose Reyes and A-Rod (headcase but cant ditch the man).

I love baseball- My teams are in order:
Mariners
Anyone playing against the yankees
Anyone playing Oakland
Anyone playing Atlanta.
Detroit
RedSox
Twins
Wherever my fantasy players are...unless they play for the yankees in which case I want them to do well, but the yanks to still lose.

Well I knew nothing about baseball until I moved here 3 years ago. Not being an american I could never figure out what was going on. Now I'm a huge Cardinals fan. So many players on the Cards that I love.

My middle daughter plays softball and I never miss her games.

Baseball is THE ONLY pro sport that I follow and I love it. If anyone has a fantasy league of any sort and needs participants, let me know -- I am IN! p.s. my fantasy team won 1st place in the league I was in last season so watch out :D

I'm a baseball FREAK! Love it, love it, love it! My scorebook (just a spiral notebook) is purchased and ready for the 2007 season! I am working on which games I'll make in opening week.

ennay - my parents are in Seattle so I'm planning on getting to a few Mariners' games this summer! Can't wait! I've never been to Safeco before.

In fact, there are MANY stadiums I haven't been to. That is one of my goals in life (I know...shallow). I want to watch at least one game in each one. The only ones I've been to are Royals (obviously...hundreds of times!), old Cardinals, Braves, White Sox...then a couple of minor league....Memphis Redbirds and Omaha Royals. Minor league stadiums aren't in my goal....I just thought I'd throw them out there.

My favorite teams after the Royals are: hmmmm....good question! :D I DO HATE THE YANKEES, though. Just thought I'd lay that out on the table.

Thanks for the thread! This is gonna be fun!

Safeco field is awesome, and...ironically ...the best food in baseball. Actually for watching your weight it isnt bad either...there is so much selection beyond the typical ballpark food you CAN actually eat semi-decently....cheap NO.

I'd love to do a ballpark tour, but alas its tough with the little ones this little

GOOOD LORD how long does it take to pick your back up outfielder?

YAY!!!!! BASEBALL!!!!!! Love it!!!

So obviously my favorite team is the Colorado Rockies!!! Lived in Denver for 10 years and was able to go to a lot of games. So even though we didn't have many winning seasons, I got hooked. This year I think we have a chance though, lots of talent on the team!

I already have tickets bought and am planning my trip to Denver for opening day, and the next two games, since we'll be there anyways!! I can't wait. Opening day is so much fun!!

Besides the Rockies :), I like the Cardinals, and the Phillies. I agree with Ennay and Royalsfan, I hate the Yankees!! I also hate the Dodgers!! Just kidding ;), but they're not my favorite. I tend to like certain players without really liking the team they play for, like Erick Byrnes. I love watching him play, but the Diamondbacks, not my favorite.

I also would love to do a ballpark tour. I've only been to Coor's Field, but there are many that look so pretty on TV, and others that would just be neat to go to for the history, like Wrigley's. Maybe someday when I'm rich!!

Thanks for the thread Gary. Lot's of fun!!

As you may have guessed the LOS ANGELES DODGERS are my favorite team. I also root for the ANGELS in the american league, I have tried to follow both but I just don't have the time.

And of course my second favorite team is ANYBODY playing the san francisco giants.

I live in San Diego County but grew up in Orange County California when I became a DODGER fan at age 9. My dad, originally a CUBS fan, being from Illinois, would take us to a game or two of the DODGERS each year and to the ANGELS games too. Back then the Angels played in DODGER STADIUM. We moved the summer between my 6th and 7th years of school to San Diego county, in 1969 the San Diego Padres professional team was born. I just couldn't leave my DODGERS! And it was just so much fun rooting against my friends!

I will pull for the ANGELS and I will pull for the CUBS (as long as their wins don't make a difference to the DODGERS) in memory of my dad's second favorite team.

Baseball has brought a lot of memories to my family. As the season goes on I am sure to get a chance to share some of mine with you.

Help keep this thread going if you gals are REALLY interested..okie-dokie?

Won't be long now...til we hear..."PLAY BALL!"

OOOHHH! I am sooo excited to have found this thread!! I LOVE baseball. I even got my DH hooked on it (he's not a sports person). I am a complete Cardinals fan!! You should see my office, aka the baseball shrine. We have lots of cards stuff and also D-backs stuff. I grew up with the cards and now am back in St Louis after being gone to AZ for 15 years. I am also a Diamonbacks fan since I did live there, but NOT a fan of their new colors, so it's good I've moved back home. There really is a huge difference between cards fans and D-back "fans." I am soo glad to be back home where baseball rules.
But you will find a few Yankees items in my collection out of hommage to Lou Gherig. My father-in-law has Lou Gherig's disease. But I do hate the current Yankees.
Also, I am not really good with players' names and stats. I am getting much better now that I am paying attention more since my DH loves it as much as I do. I just love the game. The ballpark!!!! Everything.
Only 13 days till opening day here!!!!!!!

I even flew from AZ back to St Louis in 2005 to see games in the old stadium before they tore it down :( . And flew back in 2006 to see games in the new stadium, which was just as much fun as the old.

Clydegirl, you should definitely go to an MLB game. There's nothing like it. We have a triple A team here in town, but after going to so many Major league games the minor leages can be boring. I still go and have a good time, but it's just not the same!! The atmosphere of the ballpark is what first got me interested in baseball, now I just love the game!!!

That's so interesting to me because I'm just the opposite. I LOVE the minor league games!!! To me, that's where you find the biggest concentration of real fans and not just the idle "watchers". There is a huge group of people at each minor league game that scores the game themselves (which I LOVE doing). Also, everyone has their portable radio and headsets....keeping up with their major league team. Everyone there seems to just love the game. They love to talk about who their team is....history....memories...etc... It's great! Not to say that MLB games aren't fun...but the minor leagues have a very different feel to them.

I'm not a Cardinals fan even though our triple A team is theirs. I think it's just too hard to be a true fan to more than one team. I can follow the Cards but they don't make my heart race the way the Royals do. Also, a lot of those feelings could go all the way to 1985. Silly, though, since the Royals haven't really been competitive since then. HOWEVER, I did go to my first Cardinals game last year and I saw a lot of people scoring....that was cool. To me, that's the group of "old school" baseball fans.

EZ....HATE the Giants!!! Mainly because I can't STAND Barry Bonds. I truly wish that EVERY pitcher would pitch out and refuse to give him a chance to hit the ball at all. IBB him EVERY TIME!!!!! He deserves no record breaking shot. BLEEEEECCCCHHHHH!

OK guys....first memory question....who is your favorite all-time player? I mean, the guy who really makes your heart beat fast...and gives you goosebumps when you see him (or remember seeing him if he doesn't play anymore). Mine would be a toss-up between George Brett and Amos Otis...however, George would have to win out. I get all jittery even remembering seeing him play when I was growing up! And the pine-tar fiasco? I STILL cheer every time they show that clip where he comes barrelling out of the dugout!!!!!! WHHOOOOTTT!

Was there a Shaun Boyd on that AAA team by chance? I heard he may have dropped to AA. he was with the cardianls organization, played baseball against my son in little league, and with him in basketball in high school. Best little league player I ever personally saw!

I am not sure of my favorite player. I have had several over the years from Sandy Koufax ~ Billy Russell ~ Bill Buckner ~ Brett Butler ~ Eric Gagne (NO MORE! ) But I will tell you I get all jittery as you say when I hear Vin Scully announcing Sandy Koufax's Perfect Game! I was 10 years old and heard it live with my dad. Every night he would lay on the couch and listen to the ball game, resting from the days work. A lot of nights I would lay on the floor by the couch and listen too, this night was special, I will never forget it! We had the record of the ninth inning years ago, bought it from a Dodgers special, lost it, then with the beauty of the internet, you can hear it...I haven't been able to figure out how to copy it or buy the copy though. I would really like to hold it again in my posession! But being able to click on it now and hear the 9th inning of that game is really special to me.

Thanks for sharing and keep it up! Any baseball stories will do just fine!! Let's see if we can build through the entire season gals!! :carrot:

Shaun Boyd played last year, I'm pretty sure. I don't know about before that...and I don't know if he is on the roster this year. If I remember correctly he was an outfielder. If I remember to, I'll go pull out last years' scorebook of mine and check to see if I saw him play or if I'm thinking of someone else.

I've only heard about Koufax's perfect game. I've GOT to find that on the internet and listen. How cool is that!? I

Lets see, I didnt become a baseball fan until later in life. I've been to Cleveland's old Municipal Stadium (for baseball, football, U2, Pink Floyd and The Who - nothing like an all purpose grey dingy half flooded piss hole), The Metrodome (twins) , the Kingdome (old Seattle), Safeco field (new Seattle), Cincinnati's new park, Petco, Anahiem...mmmm I think that is it.

Players hmmm. Since I wasnt a fan in the olden days dont really have any kid memories. I used to have a major crush on a player, but it is too embarrassing to admit, especially since he was most definitely a 'roids case. But we all went a little crazy up here in 2001.

on Bonds.... I pray to the baseball gods that he blows out his knees permanently before the season starts and never gets a shot at besmirching yet another record.

I'm fairly new to this baseball thing. I've only followed it closely for the last three seasons. I went to games as a kid with my grandpa and all his buddies. They went to every single minor league game here in town. He'd take one of the grandkids with once or twice a week. I remember it being a special time to hang out with my grandpa, but I don't remember much about actual games. More just the atmosphere and laid back attitude at the ballpark.

My uncle was the official scorekeeper here up until last season. So it was always fun to go to the games he was scoring and rib him on some of the plays/calls. He taught me how to keep score, so I started doing it at each game I go to. It's really fun! Most of the time I screw up a few times, but it's still fun to keep a record of what happened. I'll never forget I went to a game last year with my mom (triple AAA). We sat down next to this older man. First thing he said to us was "oh you girls out to enjoy the weather? Well don't worry I'll help you understand the game." I was just like okay. They I pulled out my scorecard and started writing down the lineups. The guy just gave me a weird look. By the third inning, he turned to me and said "maybe you can help me understand the game." It was so cool! I love breaking stereotypes!! He was a neat guy. It was really fun listening to his baseball stories, and as we got to talking it turned out he knew my grandpa. So it was really cool!

As far as favorite player of all time, I have to go with Todd Helton. Career .333 hitter, awesome with the glove, and so nice!!! He came to the children's hospital I worked at and took pictures and gave autographs to all of the kids. He was so sweet to all of the kids, and to the nurses! He's a really great player, but he might be my favorite for more personal reasons! ;)

OH MY GOSH! My feelings exactly! I've NEVER liked him!!! I actually drafted him for my fantasy team 3 years ago (I think 3...). It went against every fiber of my being to do it...but I did. And that was the year he started the season batting lik .174!!! What an A$$! hahaha I'm sure he did it just to make it even worse on me for drafting him in the first place! Besides...has anyone noticed that he unfastens and refastens the velcro on his batting gloves about a MILLION times per at bat???? Man, he drives me nuts!

Really, I just don't like the Yankees at ALL! My heart is sad the Mienkiewicz went to them this year. I know he isn't the best....but for the Royals he was a great defensive player at 1st and we needed any hitting we could get...even if it was just slapping. Oh well...

One final thing I'd like to bring up today....Mienkiewicz brought it to mind because he ALWAYS wears short pants. I LOVE short baseball pants and I can't understand why they aren't the standard anymore. There isn't much that drives me crazier about baseball unis than the stupid baggy pants that hang on their cleats! (Well, the vest thing is pretty bad, too...but the baggy pants win out on gross baseball attire!) I think short pants should be the new rule!

The games are relatively cheap, the park is really nice, and the team has been finishing at or near the top of the Southern league :) .

P.S. We just bought the DVD of 'Field of Dreams'..my favorite movie. I'm waiting 'til the day before opening day to watch it ;)

It's all in the name....I love the Sox. My 74 year old mother is going to Florida today and has tix to 2 games.

I can see Fenway out the window of my house and usually get to a bunch of games. Love it, love it, love it. Oh and living here I see players a lot. Once I played wiffle ball with Mike Timlin, John Olerud and their kids!!!

Every year I also go to Baltimore and try and get to at least 2 games, so much cheaper than going in Boston and a very cheap flight. The games usually have more Sox fans than Orioles!!!!

Red Sox fan: My DH and I have been to Tampa to see the Sox play the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (we live in SE GA..originally from MA). There are so many retirees from New England in the Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area that the crowd is probably 8 to 1 Sox fans ;) Poor D-Rays! Getting a ticket to a game at Fenway is next to impossible! My nephew had a standing room ticket at the top of the Green Monster, and he had to sell it. I'm not sure how much he got, but it was probably $$$! :dizzy:

I just bought 4 sox tickets for Patriots (Marathon day). Face value $23, I paid $75...oh well it's fun.

I have a bunch of friends with season tix which is nice, plus since I live across the street from the park, I often get a last minute phone call saying "so and so can't make the game if you want to go"....it' great for me. Last year I got that call and was all sweaty from a run, so I threw on a sox hat and I went to the game just like that...I didn't care.

The one thing the Sox do which is nice is they save some tickets to be sold on the day of the game. Last year I got in line at 2, waited for 3 hours and got face value tix to a Yankees game. It's a pain but worth it if you want to go.

I really am enjoying the stories here....I am sure there will be many more too.

I have been able to watch a couple of high school games (my old alma mater) lately. My nephew plays tennis for the high school, the courts are right next to the diamond, I can watch two sports almost at once! Kind of reminds me of watching my daughter's college tennis home matches. We stood on top of the athletic building, a deck, and looked down into the tennis courts on one side and onto the baseball field on the other. A real pretty picture, the baseball field, behind the outfield fence was the Pacific Ocean. I will see if I have any pictures in the computer, if I do I will post them.

Clydegirl - I was still living in AZ last year and I had to work during the series. I was listening on the radio (I brought my satellite radio into work) though. When it got real heated during the last couple of innings, I called my DH at home and was screaming at him to turn the DVR (like Tivo) on. Like all good hubbies, he did. Now, I have the last couple of innings forever.:D It will hold me over until I can buy the box set.

Oh my gosh....we're really coming down to the wire! I'm off to Kansas City on Sunday for the first week of baseball. Can't wait! I did miss out on Opening Day tickets...but I'll be there Wednesday and Thursday. I used to take my kids out of school and we'd go to the home opener but now that we live in Tennesse that is no longer possible. Makes me sad! :( Luckily, next week is their spring break week so for the first time in several years we'll be in town! I'm going to be a lot more diligent about tickets next year, if spring break is again so convenient, and get them back to opening day. I was going to mention that don't you just hate the internet for ticket sales now! I went on-line the day individual tickets went on sale for the DOZDGERS and ANGELS, about 1 hour after the start and ALL the decent tickets were gone! AGAIN! How great is that! I love seeing all the baseball stuff in every store. I want to buy everything.

Gary - I hear ya on those blankety-blank scalpers. Here, 20 minutes after tics went on sale, they were sold out (opening day) and before that was standing room only (SRO). Makes me nuts. Hopefully next year I am going to buy partial season tickets and that always includes opening day.

I just got back from catching a couple of spring training games in Arizona. We go every year--I love having an opportunity to see a major league team in a ballpark the size of a minor league stadium. I always read baseball books during the trip. This year I finished up MoneyBall (started it on last year's trip) and re-read California Rush (http://www.amazon.com/California-rush-novel-Sherwood-Kiraly/dp/0425159795/ref=sr_1_3/104-8601237-1057560?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1175552042&sr=1-3, the best baseball novel ever written--it's hilarious--if you like baseball, you should definitely read this book).

I seem to be the oddball on this thread because I am an Oakland A's fan. They are the only team I'm interested in, although I will root for whoever is playing the Yankees and I'm no fan of Barry Bonds or the Giants either.

Dennis Eckersley's parents live down the street from me; it's my one brush with fame. But they pretty much keep to themselves, so I haven't actually met them.

Oh, and BTW - I was interested in fantasy play, but it look too complicated. Does anyone have any suggestions for a VERY simple version? I don't even understand how your team is formed. There must be a "Fantasy Baseball for Dummies" book, right?;)

There are several different kinds. I am probably in the SIMPLEST league of all. I am doing what is called a weekly head-to-head format in a mixed league with no salary cap.

Basically this means me and a bunch of other yahoos get together and chip in a little money for a site that supports fantasy leagues. There are some free ones, we use one I think we pay for and it is REALLY nice.

Then we decide on a draft day and draft order (how you do this the 1st year must involve major battles, fortunately I joined after it started and it was based on the previous year)

You pick players one after the other until you have the 25 players on your team. (In our league you are required to play 5 starting pitchers, 3 relievers, 2 catchers, 1 of each of the infield positions, 4 outfielders and 2 extra batters every week and carry 5 players in reserve)

After that you just sit back and let the players do their thing. Different things are worth different points depending on what kind of league you are in. The websites do all the math for you. Like in my league a single is worth 1 point, a double 2, etc.

The differences between the leagues are in the details such as

WEEKLY - mine you set the line-up every week and are stuck with it all week. Some you do DAILY. Unless you have no life, I would not do a daily league.

HEAD-to HEAD - I play a different team each week, whichever has the most points at the end of the week wins the "game". Just like in baseball, wins and losses determine standing (as opposed to total points scored which is called "rotisserie" or "total point" leagues)

MIXED LEAGUE - We draft from both NL and AL, some leagues are dedicated.

NO SALARY - Some leagues assign values to players and you have to fill your roster within a budget (ironic given the lack of a cap in the real game) ours is just 1st come 1st served. It makes trades much easier too, whatever you can sucker the other guy in to is ok!

KEEPER LEAGUE - means a league where you get to keep players from the previous year before the draft. Sometimes they are then kept at their previous "salary". Some leagues have 0 keepers, ours has 4, my BIL is in a league with 15....totally up to the league how you want to run.

The easiest way to play fantasy is find a league that you may want to join and shadow an owner for a part of a season.

Nette - I really like Shealy so far. That's a lot for me because I was seriously disappointed when Meinkiewicz was allowed to leave. We so desperately needed someone who could play 1st base...even if he was only a slappy kind of hitter. So, Shealy's defense combined with his better than Doug M's offense is making me happy. If we get Gordon's arm under control I'll be even happier...he's kind of a loose cannon throwing from 3rd to 1st!

Gary - sarcasm on any other team is realism for a Royal. ;)

Ennay - don't put ANY KC pitcher on your fantasy team! No matter how good he is the Royals can probably manage to get him a loss. :D I don't think we have a pitcher who's ERA is fantasy worthy, anyway!

I do think Meche is pretty ok...but if he has head case issues then the KC bats will ruin him! Greinke is my prime example! haha

I am a Twins fan. Even got to see them win 1987 WOrld Series in person. But I just love the game. We are hoping to go see the TWins Play in MIlwaukee and Cleveland this year. We've been to both Chicago Stadiums and Baltimore (what a beautiful park).

Did any one see Burley's no hitter? That was something.

I'm so ticked that I missed that no hitter! You guys aren't going to believe this but I was channel flipping through the MLB stations and went right past it thinking "well, THAT game's about over". Then my husband called and asked if I had watched because Buehrle had rocked the house....and I LIKE Buehrle! I hate when I miss stuff like that!

Hey all. Back from being MIA. DH was in town and didn't have time for the computer. Hadn't seen each other for 2 months. Well, we did manage to go to a Cards game this past Tuesday. Of course it was the game they made 2 errors in the 1st inning! What is up with them this year? I know it's still early, but they just don't seem to have any life in the team. Still a forever fan though.
But being at the park was great and it was a perfect day! Sunny and 72degrees. My DH even surprised me with a jersey to wear, which is no small feat considering they usually don't go up to my size. I have lots of Cards gear to wear, but not an official white jersey. Now I do. He even got me a gift card to go back and have my name and number put on the back since their embroidery machine was broken. Made me pretty happy. And I didn't even get any mustard on it!!!!
EZ - That's pretty exciting about the SIL no matter what team! And I totally agree with the plasma TV. We have one and I love to watch the games in HD. It's just like being at the park! You feel like you could touch the grass.
Have a great weekend to all!

NewFannie - that game sounds wonderful. Baseball outside - imagine that! I will be thrilled when the Twins new ballpark is built. I am part of the definite minority that is happy to pay some more sales tax to get it. Too bad it's being built right next to a garbage burner. :dizzy:

HOmebound - Yeah Sox - anybody beating the Yankees makes me happy. :D

Royalsfan - I spelled Buehrle really wrong! It was still great baseball though.

Last couple of weeks has been great for MN baseball - Santana got his Cy Young. Morneau got his MVP and HUnter got his Gold Glove. Hunter's Grand SLam. Makes up for all of the years when they are really really bad and there are about 10 of us at the Dome.

Luja - garbage burner? Oh, no! Where is the zoning board? LOL And I love baseball outside. I just moved back to StL (my true love) from Phoenix where the D-Backs play indoors. Yes, the roof opens, but it rarely is open since it is so freaking hot there. They open it before the game to let the heat out, but close it back up to keep the A/C in. I heard they use enough electricity during one game for the A/C than the whole city uses in a month. But it would be unbearable to sit through a game in 115 degree heat. Hope your new stadium turns out to be wonderful.

So I finally had time to download my pics from opening day. So I thought I'd share a few. The first two are from opening day, the third is from the second game of the series, and the fourth pic is from the third game. It was so much fun. Looking at the pics makes me want to go back, even though the team is struggling right now. Their bats are working or their arms are working. They can't seem to get both working at the same time. So frustrating. :fr: At least it's still early in the season. They have time to turn it around.

Joe Morgan is a bit full of himself for my taste but anything is better than listening to Chris "the only real sport is football" Berman call a game. I miss Costas...that was a guy who could call a game. We lost our backup announcers in Seattle and now they have some dip calling most of the game that doesnt even know baseball or the mariners. Seattle is different in that they have a crew share radio/tv and they usually swap halfway through the game. Now it seems like the old guys are mostly doing radio and the dip is getting all the TV time.

EZ - it was played before Mrs. Robinson talked. I guess Happy Day was their favorite hymn. I suppose it couldnt be too blasphemous as it was sang by a gospel choir, but it just seemed like...well Jackie was great and all, but was he THAT GREAT that even an allusion to Jesus was appropriate. But its not like hyms havent been done before. I think it was that so FEW words were changed that it made you hear the Jesus/Jackie thing more than normally when they redo hymns in a secular way.

OK ENNAY ~ I did have the sound on during that time but it was low and I was across from our living room, at the kitchen table, working on bills. I do remember the song, just didn't pay any attention to the words, I did listen to Mrs. Robinson talk when she came on, she seems to still have a lot of life in her!

What was acomplished because of Jackie's situation is wonderful, however, I think sometimes the DODGERS don't get enough credit for it OR some of his team mates that had to endure "crap" for supporting him. He, than God, was strong enough to stand up for it. Being voted rookie of the year showed that Things were changing for the better in our nation...too late and too little of course at the time.

In Joe's behalf last week, he did say that the door is open for the blacks in baseball, they just choose basketball instead...he thinks baseball has done it's job for the black player...not the black manager though. He kept harping on Dusty Baker not having a job right now, now I am a big Dusty baker fan from his days in a DODGER uniform...but he HAS had his chances, and maybe will again, just because he is black doesn't
mean a team HAS to hire him...teams try to make changes that suit their players.

Ummmm.....NOOOOOOOOOO! As all the reporters have been saying...it's their bullpen that they need work on. Even if Roger goes 5 or 6 innings every 5 days, they still need a bullpen to rely on. And, even if they do pull off a win every five days when he pitches, there's still 4 other games left to lose!!!

Hi,

Is there any talk of minor league baseball here? My husband and son are doing a double header tomorrow. We live in NJ, and Ryan Howard from the Phillies is playing for the Lakewood Blueclaws tomorrow morning, and Roger Clemmens is pitching for the Trenton Thunder tomorrow night. (standing room only) Yes, my son is missing school for baseball, but he hasn't missed one day all year...or last year for that matter!)

My husband is a lifelong Phillies fan and our son is a Yankees fan (much to my husband's disgust)

We're very fortunate to live near the stadium where the Yankee's minor league plays. My son met and got autographs from Philips Hughes last year-he was incredibly nice and even gave our son a pitching lesson! I hope his hamstring injury heals quickly so he can go back to the Yankees soon. Tyler Klippard was also very nice in person as well.

My DH and I are fans of the Jacksonville Suns. They're a AA franchise of the LA Dodgers. They're not doing that well this year :( , but in the past we've been able to see some great games. Gabe Kepler and Dave Roberts came up through the Suns and ended up on the 2004 Red Sox (my favorite team ;) ). Randy Johnson also started his baseball career with the Suns. Several years ago, we saw John Smoltz make a rehab start for the Greenville Braves, and my son got his autograph :D . But the most memorable time was when we got to see one of the greatest ballplayers of all time. He was playing for the Birmingham Barons..unfortunately, he wasn't a great BASEBALL player! His name...Michael Jordan! :)

The coverage of Roger Clemens pitching at Trenton Thunder tonight is on ESPN 2 starting at seven pm.

Comcast will be broadcasting live with their show Out of Bounds from 7-8 and 11-12 am.

The entire game is live on espn360.com

My husband and son Mathew are at the game.

Matthew just called, and said he got Roger Clemens' autograph! He stopped and signed for a few people a little while ago. Matthew's really excited-he's been lucky at Waterfront Park in Trenton. Last summer he got Gene Michael and Carl Pavano's autograph, and he met and got Sparky Lyle's autograph at a Somerset Patriots game last summer :D

On a lighter note did anyone see the meltdown by a minor league manager. He tore up 3rd base, made the strike zone larger, tried to blow up the pitchers mound and then made motions to throw out the umpire. They've been showing it on our local news. Too funny.

Especially after that spectacular 9th inning couple of nights ago when they decided to walk him. Did you see him grinning at that? Rest of the team is not too shabby, huh! Showed them.;)

On the Bonds issue - I wish everyone in MLB would just walk him the rest of the season so he can't hit the record. What a crock. Can't stand him. I know that he must have some talent, it's just been "enhanced." But still. Ticks me off.

So the Rockies have been up, and down, mostly down unfortunately, but some of their bats are starting to wake up again. So hopefully we can put another string of wins together. Gary, it would be nice if you could ask your team to lose a few, (and the other two teams) so we can gain a little ground!!! ;) On a good note, we weren't last in the division this morning!!

That minor league meltdown was hilarious. I've watched it a few times and it still cracks me up. The rosin "grenade" was definately my favorite part. All week at work we've been finding reasons to throw "grenades" at each other. It's been great. It was a little over the top for baseball, and a little embarrassing to have a grown man acting like that, but still I find it funny!!

As far as the Barry Bonds thing, I agree with you Gary. I don't like him, but I do think that he was a great player before the "enhancement." However, records are meant to be broken, and it's going to happen like it or not. So I figure I might as well just go with it, and witness history.
