I hope no one minds that I started the thread. I know it is only Day 2 of exercise for me, but I did it and I really want to claim it! :D

I walked at least 30 minutes today and I really think it was 40 minutes. I got mixed up on the time I left so I did an extra 10 minutes just in case I was wrong! :carrot:

Way to go, Casey!

I did 2.75 mi on the elliptical and I'm hoping to throw in a WATP video in a few minutes.

Thanks for posting the thread. I was just about to not exercise, and then I saw it. Getting ready to go do something!

Edit: Did Turbo Jam Cardio Party... 45 mins and 451 calories. :)

I can't remember if I posted yesterday in the other thread. Anyway, I did a 3.5 mile run and a 60-minute yoga DVD.

Today I definitely overdid it -- I ran 6.5 miles! My legs are screaming at me, and rightly so.

Day 3 of walking 30 minutes for me. What cracks me up is Taryn gets so excited when we are going. I have parked the jog stroller on the front porch to make it easier to get out and go. Now everytime we go in and out she wants to go walk!:D

You girls are awesome with your exercise routines. I am inspired!

I had to take my car in to get some warrenty work done - and I walked to starbucks and back, 30 minute walk each way! It was pouring, so I am pretty proud that I actually did it.

Yesterday I walked for 1 hour and 7 minutes.

I need a good workout video, any ideas?

What kind are you looking for? Cardio? Strength? A mixture?

Today I did an easy 2-mile run/walk to recover from yesterday's long run.

I walked a mile today, biked two miles, 100 crunches and did weight training with my trainer for an hour today.

Congrats to everyone that gone some physical activity in today. We all have busy lives and it's not always easy to fit exercise into our day.

LisaMarie71 - mainly cardio, I like butt kicking hard cardio! I have a Tae-Bo tape, but it's like 5 years old and I'm getting tired of it. I wouldn't mind a little strength, I'm fairly muscular, but I'm mostly concerned with my stamina.

Turbo Jam is my drug of choice right now. It's kickboxing like Tae Bo, but it's so much more fun. You might want to check eBay for some single tapes if you don't want to invest in the whole system. I'm getting ready to order another set of tapes. That's how much I love it.

I have heard of Turbo Jam, and we actually sell it at my work.. they combined 2-3 workouts onto one DVD for 16.99. Thanks for the tip!

Swimgirl, most of my workout stuff is a bit old, but I do like some of the Kathy Smith stuff. I have a few of her step aerobics tapes and a "power" step reebok tape that still kicks my butt. Turbo Jam sounds fun, but I haven't tried it yet. The most recent DVD I bought was the 2nd Biggest Loser one and I like some of it but I'm not really a fan of those tiny little 10-minute segments. I know you can put them all together, but that whole concept is just awkward to me unless I really am pressed for time and 10 or 15 minutes is all I have.

I am loving these beautiful days!
Any ideas for beginner videos? I don't know that I am ready for Turbo Jam, but I am going to need something for when the weather is too poor to put Taryn in the stroller!

Swimgirl--that walk sort of gives a whole new meaning to your name! ;)

I started with WATP and some dancy stuff. If you have On Demand with your digital cable, there are a bunch of different workouts to try.

But even if you aren't "ready" for something, I think you should still try. You may suprise yourself. I started with the 10 minute Learn and Burn Turbo Jam. When I started the 20 minute TJ, I still could only do 10 mins. Now I can do the whole 45 minute Cardio Party tape, and sometimes when I'm done I want to do more. Who woulda thought? LOL.

Casey, Leslie Sansone's WATP stuff is definitely great for beginners or for people who don't like dance-y workouts. Very simple moves, not intense, but you can get a good workout and still have fun.

Today I did 30 minutes on the elliptical, a 30 minute walk on the treadmill, and a 60 minute bodysculpting class.

Yay! I played nearly two hours of very very very competitive volleyball. I exercise better and enjoy it ever so more when it's competitive -- softball, volleyball, racquetball. My body aches, but man I love that sport! Trying to get a team together for this really tough league this summer. Crossing my fingers.

My fiance bikes the Bike New York ride each year. It's this gorgeous 42 mile ride through the five boros of NYC. Last year, he got my nearly 300 pound butt on a bike and I did it, but I have bad memories. Between being surrounded by all these skinny skinny bikers, the bridges that incline FOREVER, and the bronchitis from which I was recovering, I'm not sure I can do it this year. 42 miles on a bike damn near killed me, ladies! I need to work up to these things, I think! =) But still, I can admit to feeling pained but emotionally darn good after that race.

Y'all should try it. I'm going to have a goal to be able to do it with him next year and NOT have him ride circles around me, encouraging me to go the next mile (he was very very patient with my whinging about my butt aching!)

Anyway, go volleyball! woo hoo!

I walked for 1 hour and 28 minutes. 8.4 km's I believe! It was alright, I am pretty cranky today because my bf and I had the morning off together and he didn't want to get out of bed, and when he finally did? He refused to go with me for a walk. Poop on him.

Again, here I am not really motivated to get up and exercise, and again, you ladies have motivated me to move... Getting ready to hit the fitness center and hop on the treadmill!

LisaMarie71

Tonight I did 50 minutes on the treadmill -- walking for the warmup and the cool down, and the 36 minutes in the middle were running. I ran 3.1 miles, or a 5K. Woohoo! Very very sweaty, though.

I did not go to the fitness center (raining) but instead popped in a new DVD I bought called Quick Fix Cardio Hip Hop. The dance moves were kind of complicated, but I hung in there. 30 minutes, 266 calories. :)

And I have not gotten out to get any video yet! Perfect set up for me to say "I'll just have to take the day off." HOWEVER, I was on the phone with my friend and started walking around (and around) my house. I threw the stairs in there a bit and walked for 1 hour! Not exactly as hard as my outdoors walk but I did it 30 minutes longer. So it was not traditional, but I moved and it feels good. :carrot:

Lots of great exercision out there, Ladies. WTG

Phew...St. Paddy's Day snow shoveling to start...I solid 2 hours, by hand...wet heavy snow...it was a real good workout actually...and fit day tells me that is over 400calories! Now that I can get out of my driveway I'm gonna hit the gym this afternoon too with a planned 30 min on the stairmill, 30 on the new ski machine things (which aren't really ski machines but I'm not sure what they are...like a gazelle but not a gazelle) and 30 minutes of weight training....Onderland here I come!

Tricia, you're doing so great on that elliptical! I love the elliptical -- I did it a lot for a while, but now I just do it once a week because of my training runs. It's really good cross training for running because it's so easy on my knees, which are getting a bit pounded lately. I really want an elliptical in my house, but I'm far too broke for that!

Speaking of knee-pounding, I ran a fast (for me) 2 miles today and did 40 minutes of yoga.

Lisa - Thanks for the encouragement. I'm just so proud of myself for sticking with the exercise. For me, the eating right was a LOT easier than sticking to exercising...but now it all just feels really right. I do have an elliptical at home. DH bought it for me for my birthday in July...the sad thing is it took me until January to start using it! Oh well, I know he is glad that I'm doing it now. I've even seen him on it a few times! haha The great thing for me is that I'm extremely self-conscious about working out and don't like ANYONE to see me...so once everyone has left for the day I do it...first thing in the morning! LOVE that!

I had been meaning to ask about how it compares to running. I know it is easier on the joints...but exertion-wise...what do you think? According to my stats (which are SUPPOSED to be very accurate...based on all the reviews we read on this machine!) I'm doing my 3 (YES!! THREE) miles in about 19 minutes....averaging a little over 9 miles an hour. Is that ANYTHING like running 3 miles in 19 minutes? I figured the runners on here woudl have an idea about how they compare.

Today....3 miles!!!

I had been meaning to ask about how it compares to running. I know it is easier on the joints...but exertion-wise...what do you think?

Some people say they think the two workouts are comparable, but for me nothing really comes close to running. I can get a good workout on an elliptical and sweat like crazy and burn all sorts of calories, but there's something about propelling yourself off the ground for a long period of time that just works you out like nothing else. A 9-minute mile is pretty fast if you're actually running -- I ran as fast as I could sustain for 2 miles yesterday, and I was running about a 10:40 mile. I can go a little faster than that in short intervals when I'm doing speedwork on the treadmill, but it's not comfortable. My husband's easy recovery runs are 8 or 9 minute miles, and he's like a freaking superhero (his fast runs are 6-7 minute miles or so). The elliptical supports you so you can go faster, but it's not the same as pushing off the ground and propelling yourself up and forward. Running for 30 minutes at a 12-minute mile pace feels like a FAR harder workout to me than going faster on an elliptical. But I've heard other people say the elliptical is tougher for them, so I guess it depends on your own body.

Just finished 3 miles...19 minutes! That's a little over 6 minutes per mile!

Thanks for the info, Lisa. I think I'm tending to agree with you. For me, running for real would be tougher. I was paying attention, today, to the elliptical and the smoothness of the movement I think helps a LOT. Also, the strides are a LOT bigger than I could do on the ground...so I'm covering more ground per stride. So I think that you're right...running is a lot tougher. However, a 6 minute mile on the elliptical is nothing to sneeze at! GO ME!
