Newbies, Newbies everywhere :welcome: to the Canuks Club :D

Dreary rainy day, but it'll clean the streets up and that's a good thing, the dust bothers my contacts

No pun intended Meowee, but when it rains it pours when it comes to broken appliances, one goes they all go it seems ...

Leg workout under my belt, a good healthy breakfast, and clean eats for the rest of the day...

Hope everyone has a great day

Good Monday Canadian Lovelies!!:) :) :)
I hope and trust everyone had a great weekend?? Hmm??

The deepfreeze seems to have departed from the prairie - Thank Goodness!! (although personally I fear our city may be in danger of floating away with all the snow banks left from the blizzard in January)

Meowee - LOL I love the term 'seasonal weather' - that means it could change within the hour, right? It seems to be the case here, anyways...:)

Clover - Nice job on shunning the chocolate! The gym isn't a bad idea if you don't like your own treadmill!! I felt the same way about it but then I went to the gym and the first place I headed for was the treadmills. Go figure! Maybe because they seemed so familiar. Haha. Anyways, I would do something that youre going to enjoy , to start off with. I started off with ladies soccer and that kept me wanting to keep active a little even though back then I paid very little attention to what I ate. I think it might start with just small changes. Anyways good luck - you're bound to succeed with all this support!!

Ilene - you're an inspiration to those of us just starting out in the fitness world!! All that working out you do!!

Today is the first day I've been able to ride my new bike to work!! I've never had a new bike and I was too scared to use the gears so I biked the entire half hour in the same gear. Boy o boy!! Nobody tells ya how touchy new brakes can be. I'm used to having to squeeze with all my might in order that I might stop, thereby preserving my life. Haha. Anyways I just barely touched the left brake handle and nearly flipped end over end.
Lesson learned.

Anyways ;
I hope everybody has a fantastic day!!

Hahahahaha Meowee... seasonal weather. In Nova Scotia. Ppffft you make me laugh. This is the only place I wouldn't be shocked at all if it snowed in June.

Hope you all enjoyed your Monday! I did what I set out to do and went to the gym at (gasp) 7AM today!! That may not seem too early for you but this is the latest I'll be able to go during the week... 6AM tomorrow! We'll see if I can make myself get up for that. I've got a treadmill reserved too... let's see if I can get up from my 2.53 miles in a half hour last time. Working back toward 3!
I tried on my swimsuit from last summer today, and it was a little big!! :D Sooo psyched!!! definitely need to do that once in a while because I have been having cravings lately. Chocolate and pizza. Good help me. :p Any advice to help keep me away??

Evening all

Love the weather talk. I live in the Yukon and we can have a snowstorm any month of the year! We have twice as much snow as usual this year, plus we've had lots of cold weather. Sometimes I wonder why the heck I live up here. But listening to you guys, I realize it's a Canadian thing, not just a northern thing so I feel better :) And it does feel like spring is on the way.

greeneggsandtam - thanks for the words of encouragement. Still no chocolate. I miss it but need to cut out the junk until I'm on track again. No treadmill today but I ate well. I like the idea of small changes - easier to stay on track and feel good about yourself instead of setting huge goals and failing.

Have a great night everyone.

Well . . . good morning . . . :grouphug:

Overcast so far today, although the weather forecasters say sun and warmer than yesterday :) I'm going to be playing around with the new TV anyway, so I really don't care. So far I managed to get the old 27" so-called-portable of it's stand and into an-out- of-the-way corner pending the arrival of someone strong enough to actually move it. After I run around 3FC for a bit, I'll go and get the new one in from the garage . . . think I can actually handle it . . . which is one of the reasons I wanted a flat-panel in the first place. Got a 27" LCD which is HDTV ready at a pretty reasonable $500 (WalMart; an unknown brand called Ilio), of course, it probably won't last as long as the old RCA clunker it is replacing, but at the rate technology changes, longevity is no longer a really big issue. That's about the only thing on my agenda for the day . . . hope I can get everything hooked together properly.

Here's a little suggestion to help tame the Chocolate- Mix a couple of rounded teaspoons of Splenda and a rounded teaspoon of cocoa into a cup of plain, low fat yogurt. Works for me. Almost as good . . . have some FF/SF jello chocolate pudding made with skim milk. I like the yogurt better, and it's healthier too.

Anyway, gang . . . I wish you each a wonderful moving and shaking kind of day and hope your weather is better than 'seasonal' . . . see you later. :carrot:

Hi there... newbie here. I'm glad I found this corner for Canadians as 3fc can be overwhelming. I'm in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Been battling with my weight up and down almost my whole life. Anyway i lost 80 lbs from Oct 2005 and reached my goal in June 2006. Maintained ok for a while but slowly I regained 13 lbs. So now I'm being more careful as I am going to get back to goal. Have a great day everyone.

Morning!

BF and I got out for a walk last night, and it felt REALLY good, both mentally and physically. We were joking around lots, and I had tons of energy. It was a beautiful night out, too (+8). We had a pretty (okay, very) tough fall and winter and it's nice to be able to hang together and laugh again (we live together). We stopped in at the Running Room and looked at shoes. I'm going to start running next week, and once I get through the C25K program, I'm going to treat myself to a new pair of shoes.

Hope everyone's having a great Tuesday! I have had the hiccups for the last hour, and I'm going slightly batty!

Hi SANDILEE . . . welcome to our group and :wel3fc: . You have definitely come to the right place, chickie

. . . okay, to answer your question . . . about how to get here from the Home Page . . .

Take a look at the navigation bar (the purple stripe) across the top of the home page . . . run your curser over Community and you will get a drop down menu . . . click on Forum . . . and you will go to a very long list of forums . . . scroll down a little bit and you will see Support Groups . . . click there and then scroll down past the lengthy list of sub-forums and you will come to three or four items marked with a red word "sticky". We are one of those. then follow the directions from Canadian Mom as to how to subscribe to the forum. Once you are subscribed, you will be able to access CRAZY CANUKS by clicking on User CP at the top of any forum page and that will tell you if there are nw posts in any of the places you are subscribed. It really is easier to do than it is to describe . . . thankfully . . . :D

Hello, gang . . . :grouphug:

Another beautiful Spring day in Atlantic Canada . . . cold, windy, rainy . . . hope the predicted snow doesn't materialize . . . :( Well, I've lost another magnificent .4 of a pound in only two weeks. :o I know, I know . . . I should stop complaining . . . at least the movement is in the proper downward direction . . . but it just gets soooooo tiresome sometimes. Oh well, I'll just keep putting one foot slowly in front of the other foot and eventually it will all pay off. :^:

On a slightly more upbeat note . . . I am in love with my new TV. :) It is so much lighter (only about 30 pounds) and even full sun streaming in all ten windows in my family room yesterday afternoon did not even phase the picture quality . . . exactly what I was hoping for. The only problem yet to solve . . . can't get a DVD to work . . . I get sound just fine (as long as the video cable is not plugged in; then I get static that drowns out the sound) but no picture. Guess I'll try a new video connection. All my exercise stuff is on DVD and I've only got VCR downstairs, so I need to get this thing working . . . Buddy Ball and the Frog are really missing me. :D

Anyway, must get moving along . . . hope everybody has a a great moving and shaking kind of day . . . keep on keeping on, gang . . . see you soon. :carrot:

Rockie86, how long has your BF been away? You must be totally giddy/nervous!! I know I would be!

 meowee, you'll get there!! Just keep on going!! Glad you're loving your new TV. Ummm... what's Buddy Ball and the Frog???

Ilene, how long have you been lifting? What's your workout schedule like?

Found out Monday my dad has the beginnings of COPD and/or emphysema... he wasn't entirely clear, but I think it's emphysema. That's been weighing on my mind quite heavily (I posted a thread about it in the support forum). In fact, yesterday and today, I've felt short of breath... I tend to get sympathy sicknesses frequently - where I'm not really sick but I psych myself into it because someone I care about is. Weird, hey?

Hope everyone has a great day...

Ilene

Aw, Shelby , sorry to hear of your dad's health...but DO take care of yourself... Start weight training to relieve the stress, seriously! I started weight training when I quit smoking 22 years ago :faint:... I'm 50 now  and I cannot give up lifting it's the best exercise... I now lift, run and swim plus in the summer I bike... Sometimes in the summer I'll do all 4 exercises on the same day, I'm a bit fanatical  ...

Hello From Ontario

I'm a mother of 4 great kids - 3 Wonderful Girls and 1 Superboy. I am married now 17 years (in July) and together with the same person for 20 years... wow - that was SOME ONE-NIGHT STAND!!! Oh well - cheers to good intentions - and bad intentions too.

I have been trying to lose weight since I was 122 lbs trying to get to 120 and I made it but now I'm 20 years older - although spiritually i dont feel that much older - and now i'm 232 and working my way back to 120 - sometimes upstream it seems.

I try to do everything for everyone and make tonnes of money in my career but something's got to give and it has been my waistline - so now it is time for something else to give.

TOPS - TAKING OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY - is my recent format for losing weight - i missed this week's weigh-in due to child birthday but since i started I lost 3.5 lb and have begun a slow adjustment to eating less everyday by eating small things every 2 hours and not overdoing it at anyone food sitting - dinner/supper with the family is my biggest challenge because i eat faster than anyone else and then sit there and pick at stuff while i'm waiting for them to finish - bad bad bad - so im thinking of new strategies for that. my parents are coming over this weekend - for my daugther's birthday- which means dirty looks while i enjoy a piece of cake - but that is too bad - i have decided this year that i will enjoy all life-celebrations but try not to carry them over into the next day and next week. WALKING will start today and i will not give up or give in until i see 130lbs on the scale and my neighbours don't recognize me anymore!!! (and i have a trail of men following me home, because they can't resist my gorgeous figure!oops sorry hubby)

Good Wednesday -
mehappy - !! I completley misread your post about missing the TOPS weigh-in due to child birthday. I read that it was due to child birth. I had to read it a couple of times. Silly me.
Shelby - I will send good thoughts your way about your father. Have a hug -
Meowee - I completely understand about the wind and rain!!! Except here today its wind and rain and snow. :brr:
Ilene - sooo jealous of your weather today. I've only been to Ottawa once and boy it was beautiful.

I haven't worked out today yet, but tomorrow is our first big run for the triathalon training program I joined. I'm super excited about it - Except for the forecast is calling for more snow snow snow. It's okay. I'm tough, and will survive. Man alive did I just have the biggest piece of puffd wheat cake. yes... devilish but worth it, I'd say. Maybe later in the gym i won't think so.

I hope everyone has a great day, and for sure better bloody weather!!

Know they'd love to hear from you.

Yep . . . I just love Crazy Frog . . . I think he's actually meant for kids . . . but that's me . . . 64 going on 7. I love the cartoon channel too and that's were I first saw some Crazy Frog shorts and then I found a DVD at WalMart . . . and the rest, as they say . . . is History. :o

Hi all!

I'm Heather, and I didn't even know until today that we HAD a Canucks Club (Crazy or otherwise!) :D

I'm 37, married, and am quite simply eating less and moving more. I track and journal my calories with absolute discipline, but with enough leeway to allow a treat now and then :) I walk my dog, and am currently acting in a musical, so that gets me moving!

I'm in K-W, in SWOntario, and soooo glad it is spring!!!

Looking forward to getting to know you!

I lost 20 lbs a few months ago, and unfortunately have gained quite a few of those back and I am in need of support and help right now!!!! I have an awful tendancy to binge eat and yo-yo diet. Hi all...nice to see all the new people - tho' Im pretty new myself. I had a good day - stayed on my plan foodwise. I still have to get exercising. I lost weight with a diet clinic (Dr. Bernstein) and did maintain, but slowly drifted up. But I have caught it in time.

Ah . . . Spring in Atlantic Canada . . . what a joy . . . you may have heard, we are in the middle of a blizzard . . . yes you read that right . . . BLIZZARD. All the schools and a lot of businesses are closed through the county. although we are only supposed to be getting 4 to 6 inches of snow, the 60 km/hr winds are really doing a horrible job on everything. OMG, I hope this is the last storm of the season. :^: Although we usually get a nasty in early April just after the Cormorants return . . . I think the stupid things use the calendar; rather than any kind of natural instinct because it happens every year. :dizzy:

Other than that, nothing going on around here . . . since I still haven't gotten out to get the new cable for the DVD player, guess I'll have to resort to laundry or housework to keep myself occupied . . . hey, at least we still have power . . . hope I haven't jinxed it now . . .

Another gorgeous, sunny day in Southwestern Ontario - and I am definitely going out today to walk that dog of mine!! He sure let me know he wasn't happy not getting out yesterday, and to be honest, the guilt I feel when he looks so let down is even worse than any guilt I ever felt for over-eating! :)

I have a busy weekend ahead, so the plan is to sort out all my meal-planning and spend some 'me' time today - including a long doggie walk! - so there is no chance of poor choices over the weekend.

Met my first mini-goal today, and the sun is shining, and all is good with the world - well, MY world, at least! :D

Have a great day, everybody!

Got to get out and get some errands run while the weather is good. The heap at the top of my driveway is high enough to actually challenge my 4-wheel drive, but I'm pretty sure I can make it . . . refuse to shovel at this time of year. :p

who here exercises at home or gym or what do you do?

i'm taking a tour of a gym today - $44 per month - is it worth it- it is state of the art - i'm hoping for goodlooking nice men that will motivate me - i have 100 lbs to lose and need LOTS OF MOTIVATION - eye candy helps!!!

New revived spirit in me - fearing another swimsuite figure in the 200-range and fearing wearing dark wintry clothes all summer and sweating to death - has put the finaly touches on my urge to lose it all for spring - scratch that make it - summer (june 21)

Family wedding on September 15 - another goal. And between March 27 and October 23rd I have 6 months with no children's birthdays to orchestrate, no christmas no major famiily parties to worry about at - now is the season of 'me' - any encouraging words before I join yet another gym - words of wisdom that help me not to look back at my stopped adventures but to look forward to the future - first goal is to get under 220 and then 200.
Want to be under 220 by May 13th and if i give it my all - i definitely can do it.

greeneggsandtam
03-30-2007, 12:40 PM
Mehappy - I love that name!!
Signing up for a gym is a hard decision. Yes...eye candy always helps. LOL
One of the things I always think is important is the amount of travel time between your home and gym. If I can bike there then I don't have to put as much time into the cardio machines.
I go to the Y because it supports the community so much. With the shelter and the programs and the united way. That way if I miss a couple of times at least I know the money is being used for good stuff and not just some guy riding around the city in his fancypants car sneering at me. Ok I have issues. But It also has so many programs and the pool and all that. I think with the plan I'm on it works out to 28.00/month, but that is on a three year plan.
Anyways just a thought for ya!!
Have a great day!

Hi Guys! Just thought I'd pop in here and say hello. I'm 'from' the southern U.S. and have literally just moved to Canada. Still get picked on for the accent and everything ;) I live in Oakville, SE of Toronto, I think. Doing the whole landed immigrant thing and all PLUS weight loss! Right now I've got a prescription for diet pills that I received from the U.S. I'm calorie counting, staying at or below 1500 a day, using free weights and doing 40 minutes of cardio daily. In 33 days I've lost 11lbs!

Hoping to lose 5 more this month! We'll see, have to check out the food in Canada, and my brand new hubby is an eater, lol.

Glad to meet yall!

Good Morning . . . well, it isn't looking as 'good' as yesterday, but not too bad . . . overcast and a few flurries . . . but nothing compared to Thursday.

Welcome to the group AMYBEAR. You are a Canuk NOW and that's all that matters around here.

I finally got the DVD player working with the new TV so the 'Frog' and I are back together . . . he tends to be my best form of exercise (along with Buddy Ball, of course) . . . although I have been toying with the idea of joining Curves(it is the only form of 'gym' that is relatively close to home). My SIL will be visiting me from Ontario this summer and she is a member and will want to go so I might wait until then (since I've got all this annoying surgery lined up in the meantime).

I pulled another "senior-moment" at the store yesterday :o . . . decided to buy the new Dove Pro-Age Shampoo and Conditioner . . . got them home and said to myself . . . "Wow, these two bottles are identical, maybe I should put a sticker on one of them" . . . well, of course, they are both Shampoo . . . so now I can go back to the store for the Conditioner. Hey, don't know about the rest of you but I always use the shampoo up much faster than the conditioner anyway . . . Guess I was just planning ahead - right? :dizzy: - RIGHT????

Anyway, I'd better get "hopping" since I do want to get to the store before the Saturday crowds hit . . . hope everybody has a great moving and shaking kind of day planned . . . see you soon . . . :carrot:

Happy Saturday Canucks!!

Meowee!! - That is so funny!! I have similar moments all the time. You know the ones where if you'd just stopped and taken a look - like biking halfway across the city last spring thinking I was so sporty and cool until I ran into my friend downtown and I realized I was wearing my bike helmet backwards the whole time.

Anyways this weekend is a soccer tournament I'm in. We lost last night, but it was a lot of sweating that otherwise would have been spent sitting in a lounge drinking wine, eating nachos and philosphizing about the world, so I guess it was okay!

I hope everyone has a fantastic day!!
Tam

Below 0ºC here this morning but it's warmed up a lot. I've been outside raking up pine needles in the dog yard. My rhubarb is showing and there seems to be a lot of green in the spring wildflower bed! Yippee! Lots of geese flying over today and my red car is wearing its spring garb of white polka dots! :( The ice is still in the lakes but looks mighty thin. It's here!!!!
