I just wanted to start a new thread where people could post and say something that they feel good and positive about related to their weight loss efforts.
NSV's are great things and they make us feel so very good!

:carrot:

For example, I have a pair of size 14 jeans that are just too baggy for me to wear any longer!!! Woo Hoo!!!! The ones I am wearing are size 10, they feel a bit snug but I am wearing them!!!! Woo Hoo again!!!!

I walked by the Girl Scouts selling cookies outside my grocery store today and I chose not to buy them. I have NEVER done that before. I will not be eating an entire box of those wonderful thin mints tonight and beating myself up for it! I love you Girl Scouts and I shall make a donation without buying those sinful treats this year!

My new jeans are falling off my butt. Oh, and today I resisted the urge to buy and devour a candy bar.

well the fact i have actually stuck to it & managed to lose weight is the biggest victory I could have wished for!!!!!!

but specifically in the last week, I did 245 minutes of exercise!!! Considering a month ago I'd have done maybe 30 minutes a week - at a stretch, it is pretty amazing

AWESOME NSVs!!!!!!
Keep 'em coming!
I think these are the things that truly make it all worthwhile.
I resisted the food tables at my monthly quilt guild meeting this morning for the most part. People were loading up plates of food, as if it was a meal. I had ONE doughnut hole, period. I'm proud of myself for that.
Momawdebbie, that was not too much to share!

You're doing better than I am if you are able to pass up many sweets that are offered to you. It's very hard to do.

Two NSV's for me to share....I was digging through my purse this morning (yep, it's a mess in there) and found a candy bar that I bought a month ago on a road trip. I had bought it, thinking I would work it into my points if I really wanted it, but I still have it.....guess I'll give it to my kiddos tonight, I obviously don't really want it!

Second, as of a couple weeks ago I'm finally into my size 12 inspiration jeans (I buy a new pair in a size too small every time my size changes). Since all clothing is cut differently, I knew that even though the jeans fit fine, many other 12's would probably not fit. The other day I was at Costco and they had the cutest little skorts out for spring, so I picked up two of them in 12's (they looked so small!) and hung them in the closet thinking they might fit me when when the weather warms up a bit. I couldn't stand it any longer and tried them on this morning and they fit! I guess it's official, I am a size 12 now! I think I'll take those skorts back and exchange them for 10's.....

Way to go Kelly! Woo Hoo!!
I like your style buying smaller items to inspire yourself, maybe I will do that as well.
I am wearing my size 10 jeans right now and they don't feel awful like I can't breath. That is such a great feeling to not feel movement restricted as the clothing "binds" me. It feels "just right". I really happy about that!
Keep at it everyone!

I'm a Boy Scout mom and made deals last fall with all my Girl Scout mom friends. "You buy popcorn and I promise to buy cookies." Well, to make a long story short I ended up buying 14 boxes of GS cookies to make good on my promise. No Thin Mints, though! ;)

Anyway--my other downfall is the peanut butter cookies covered in chocolate. I didn't intend to buy any of those, either. Apparently I mismarked an order form and one box showed up in my house. My first NSV--it's been in my house for over a week now and it's only half gone! My younger son has been eating them and I've had a few--and counted the points, thank you very much. But the major NSV for me was yesterday. I was super-stressed from work (I work from home) and was genuinely hungry--tummmy was GROWLING. I went straight for the half box of cookies. I put down the half box of cookies and got out an apple, cut it up, and added a tablespoon of peanut butter for some protein, and ate that instead.

Kathy, you are a very good girl!
Now, one thing I have done with G.S. Cookies or anything that is calling my name in the kitchen is to bring it to a meeting or to church coffee hour. Another thing that is very nice to do is to bring it to your local nursing home. The one my dad was at before he passed away had a morning social for those residents that were able with punch or coffee/tea and they gave out cookies and things like that (usually store bought). They might appreciate the donation? But, ask first as there are diabetics - but not ALL the patients. My dad would have appreciated peanut butter or chocolate cookies at that time as his options there were rather institutional.

My size 5/7 pants fit comfortably again as opposed to being snug and tight in the bum.

I can do some of the harder yoga poses

I feel that I have more stamina in kickboxing and club boxing. I don't need to stop to breathe anymore.

I moved up in weights. I can press 105 with my legs, I can do 100 with back, and 45-65 for arms (depending on which machine it is)

Okay well huge for me!! I joined WW on Saturday. I hiked Saturday afternoon about 3 km. Sunday I lazed about without guilt. This morning walked the videos back to the store instead of driving....totalling .97 of 1 km.

To most it would sound slow and very small victories, for me it's huge, it's about staying on this plan.....and the only way I can do it is in a small way......

Thanks for starting this thread....it's great!!!!

A little NSV for me today. DD wanted to go to one of our local resale shops. It's a big one, and sometimes you find things, sometimes you don't. Well today there was the cutest pair of khaki shorts from Old Navy with the tags still on them. They were a size 10, but looked pretty small. I decided to try them on anyway (I'm in a size 12 right now). They're too small to wear right now, but I got them on, buttoned and zipped without jumping up and down, LOL. I bought them! I guess the biggest part of the NSV, though, was that I know they'll fit me by May or June. It's not just a wish, or just a pipedream, they will fit. I will wear them this summer. How cool is that?

derrydaughter
03-13-2007, 08:09 AM

My NSV for yesterday:

I ate HALF of something. ONLY HALF. My boyfriend and I got carryout from this mexican place near us and I made healthy choices (small turkey chili and a quesadilla with low fat cheese, black beans, chicken and spinach) and I budgeted my points to eat this, but after the small chili and half of the quesadilla I was satisfied. So I put the rest in the fridge. Former me would eat all that was in front of me, because it was in front of me. But yesterday I was able to say I was done!

I looked in the mirror yesterday and I saw.................

my collarbones!!! :carrot:

Another NSV for today- my boss brought in Krispy Kremes (again) and I didn't have ANY! I think that he has brought no less than 7 or 8 dozen doughnuts through the door since January when I started, and I have had ONE! The old me would have eaten one and felt horrible about it- so bad that I would have had to have two more to make myself feel better. Not this me!

this is an awesome thread! the scale has stalled out for me, but I am trying to keep counting all my successes so that I don't give up.

Way to go futurepixie.....the donut dare!!! Today I resisted donuts and chocolate. I just stayed away and ate and orange when I felt it was getting bad for me. Today was a soso day because although I have eaten all my points I'm actually hungry, okay as I write this, that's an exageration, I'm actually bang on perfect, not hungry, not full....satifsfied...but yes there are still parts of the old me that could keep going. I'm glad my kitchen is cleaned out..........water is still a challenge, but I'm more conscious of it and do manage to get abit in...actually for me alot.

Geesh I need to give myself more credit than I do......thanks for listening all....good night.

Such great NSVs! I can relate to the eating everything in sight thing as related about the Mexican food. It is so hard to break bad habits. I'm working on that.
And, to see your collarbones, woo hoo!!!!! And to add resisting Krispy Kremes is way cool.
The, to top it off another great NSV of resisting doughnuts and chocolates!!!
I, sadly, need some NSVs of my own. I feel a bit low in this area, will have to look for them, as they are there. I was very wrapped up in the scale at my weigh in/meeting yesterday as it didn't move. But at least it didn't go up.
But, it's the NSVs that keep my motivation up.
I can do this!

futurepixie
03-14-2007, 01:46 PM
Linda, I know that your NSV's are there! I think that there are lots of little ones all over the place and that we just have to look for them.

And good job INTHSE! I know how hard it is to resist all those treats and eat fruit instead. But each time you do that, you build healthier habits and make yourself a little stronger!

Another MAJOR one last night- a friend I hadn't seen in a while noticed that I lost wieght, and said something. that is always nice! AND- I pulled off my size 12 jeans last night- without unbuttoning them! Time to quit letting the 10's stare me down in the closet and try them on!

Derrydaughter........I agree with futurepixie there are NSVs that you probably do everyday but just take them for granted. In the struggle with weight loss the smallest of the small is a NSV. For me what is working is not looking at the big picture. Small steps, small victories...........I didn't race to put on the weight and I certainly am not going to race to get it off. It's going to be slow.....I need to accept that.

derrydaughter
03-15-2007, 06:32 AM
You guys are right.
I have two small but important, NSVs to report.
1. I pulled on my work out clothes rather than just getting dressed when I had to drive my daughter to school yesterday. If I am out of the house and dressed, it always seems too difficult to get back to the house and put on work out stuff. I was actually on the treadmill for a change!
2. I journalled yesterday successfully, without dropping it halfway through the day, which is a huge success for me. My weight loss has slowed and even if I am on CORE and one is not supposed to journal, it truly helps me key into what I am doing and what is going wrong. It's easy to forget and pop foods, even in small quantities, into my mouth.

So, those are my victories!

I have lost 7 inches in my waist and 8.5 in my hips since mid-October.

I have dropped from a size 26 to a size 14 or 16 depending on the pants or skirt and a 12 or 14 depending on the shirt.

For the first time in 12 years yesterday I did not shop in the plus size section and the coolest thing of all. Last night I slept in one of my dh's t-shirts. He weighs all of 150. Grant it, it was a men's XL but I was in it with room.

Oh and the shirts I bought yesterday didn't have an X in front of the L.:carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

Non-scale victory for the day! :carrot:

Did not buy white-bread which I KNOW once I got home I would toast em', slather butter and sugar on em' (yes, extremely bad I know) and binge myself silly on the whole loaf (yes, the whole loaf. Shockingp, good for you - sounds like quite the addiction and one that is hard to avoid! I think there are many foods that some people must avoid having in the house. I always have a tought time with French or Italian Bread, which I would eat with butter/margarine and no sugar. I seldom buy it as I just have to have 2 or 3 big slices.
Also, T, glad you got your doctor's approval for that weight. It sounds awful low for your height.
Last time (I'm 5'2") I was in that range was right after I graduated from high school and after more than 30 years and two kids, I could never hope of reaching 107 and I think I'd have to be very ill if I got that low. I'm going to be content with the top of my range!

Tristesse, I am glad that you talked to your doctor. that is the most important thing. I just hate those chart things with the target weight range. Curves are nice. I am reminded that Marilyn Monroe was a size 14 and look at her enduring popularity. Hardly any other woman in history has endured through time as a "pin up girl". She was so timeless, a shame she died so young.
No one ever accused her of being "fat" yet now our society holds near starvation models who collapse on runways of starvation and anorexia as their role models. We must keep in mind that we have to always consult our doctors and feel good about ourselves!

NSV for Tuesday. Okay I almost did it all. I managed 5 1/2 12 oz glasses of water today mostly at work. Before WW the only water I had was brushing my teeth. I used to drink 1 coffee per day, maybe 1/2 can of diet soda and that would be pretty much the fluid intake. Other than that the week is going fine, but I get the feeling I may be eating too many rice cakes. 8 minis = 1 pt. correct???? INT and wannabe, great NSVs!
By the way, when I was having trouble getting in all my waters, I used to measure out one big container per day and keep it in my refrigerator. I knew where I stood and tried to always use that container when I was having a drink.
For me, water is the beverage of choice with my meals and I do drink allot of it all the time, so it's never been an issue for me.

I wore yet another pair of older jeans that I've not fit in to for about two years yesterday and I wore the ALL DAY with no discomfort! Wow, the "no discomfort" part of it is truly impressive.
I'm still waiting for someone to say to me something like "You look good, you've lost weight, haven't you?". Gosh, it takes time for that, I guess?
Let's remember to remark on the positives to others who have done something good for themselves and take note of it verbally. It does wonders for the person's self esteem. Sure wish someone would say something!

Oh Linda! I knew your NSVs were out there! Yaaaaaay! And personally I think that the scale does lie, and jeans always tell the truth. There you have it!

I am sure that people are noticing. If you got a new more up to date haircut, or contacts or something, people would have no qualms mentioning it. But weight, that's another story. I told a friend that I started running and then he mentioned that he could tell tht i lost weight, but didn't want to say anything because some people are so sensitive about it. and secretive about the fact that they are trying. I said, "well I didn't take up running to get fatter!" i have a friend who is also losing weight, and she has really lost a significant amount. she won't even tell me how much, i guess since she still has a ways to go. anyway, she doesn't like it when people say something- it makes her feel like she looked like crap before.

however, i agree- let's do be more generous with compliments; it takes so little to make someone else feel good.

derrydaughter
03-28-2007, 09:50 AM
Pixie, and I compliment YOU on sticking with all your exercise! You are inspiring me.
I think people should feel comfortable commenting on a weight loss and improved appearance, but never saying a thing about the opposite!
Imagine having someone come up to you and say, "Hi there, haven't seen you in ages, gosh you've gotten heavy haven't you?" Yikes!!!!
