Hi, new here, 5 months post
Just wanted to say HI.
I had gastric bypass in September 2006. I've lost 87 pounds since making the decision to have the surgery and of course post surgery. I had a fantastic surgery and have been doing great since. I primarily walk for my exercise and I also bicycle outdoors when I can.
At this point I am eating just about anything I want- just very small amounts in most cases. I have good days when eating is great and everything goes down without problems. I have bad days when I can barely eat anything and when it goes down it doesn't feel so good. Protein is the priority in anything I eat. I just started introducing carbs in the last month. I can see my weight loss has slowed down, but I am still losing.
I have completely cut out sugar- which was my big down fall. In the early days eating too much was my biggest mistake. I would take myself to the edge in terms of what I was consuming and then I would feel horrible for the next hour or two. I've learned portion control since then.
Since I haven't joined any support groups, I thought I would start here. My husband has been great in terms of being there for me pre and post op. He has also been helpful in preparing meals (he's retired and has dinner ready when I get home). He is also good at telling when I am not feeling well after I eat. He tells me when he thinks that I have eaten too fast and it has actually helped me slow down when he is around. (Of course, when I am eating alone, I do tend to get it down and pay the consequences later).
Shopping for new clothes has been fun. I am now into a size 16 from a 24/28. I haven't worn a 16 since high school! My biggest fear is getting too thin. I don't want to be a size 2, I think a 12 will suit me just fine. I need to step up the exercise and the weight training. I've got some loose skin in areas where I knew I would have it- I need to work on replacing the lost fat with muscle.
Well, I guess that is enough info on me for now. I appreciate this site and the contributions made by so many. There is plenty of information here and I hope to learn from the experiences of others.
