Default Maintainers Chat - Week of February 26 - March 4

When I typed the title for this thread I couldn't believe that these are the last few days of February! We're lucky that February's so short since most of us had pretty crappy weather this month. So I'm looking forward to March and a little spring. The birds are singing their fool heads off this morning, so something must be up.

I gained 4.5 pounds or so during the holidays and it's taken from the beginning of January to now to get rid of them! Two months of hard work in the gym and low calories for four lousy pounds. Sheesh, as I get older, it's sure getting harder to drop any weight so big lesson to me: gaining is SO not worth the time and work needed to take it off. How many times do I need to learn that lesson?

Did you all catch 3FC in March's O Magazine? We have a ton of newbies joining the forum due to the article so if you have a few minutes with nothing to do ( - I know how unlikely that is!), pop over to the Introductions forum and just say welcome to a few new people if you'd like. We're so big that sometimes new folks get lost before they can find a comfortable place to fit in.

I've got to jump in the shower and take DS to a doctor's appointment. We're still trying to get his back problems straightened out (he was in a car accident last year). As any of you with back problems know all too well, it's frustrating because there aren't any quick and easy fixes for backs.

So what's going on in your world this week?

Hi. I'm still trying to lose one more lb. that I put on through the holidays. It seems impossible to get it off. I've been working out as much as physically possible for me. I know my waist has gotten smaller, but no change on that evil scale. The next time I want to purposely over-eat and gain a few lbs., I hope I too will remember how hard it was to take them few off. I can't seem to learn my lesson either.

I have an appt. at 1:30 to take my puppy to the vet. She has something wrong with one of her eyes. Looks like she was probably clawed by the cat or mama dog swatted her in the face for still trying to nurse off her. She is 9 weeks old today.

Meg, hope your son's back gets better. Back pain is definitely horrible . A few years ago, I messed mine up. I fell out of my tree stand (12 feet in the air) and landed on another broken tree while I was deer hunting. It was horrible. I was very BIG at the time and DH had to go get the truck and come get me. I couldn't even walk for quite some time and I was definitely too big to be carried. Thank God, the damage wasn't permanent. I did break my pelvis. It was actually a very embarassing experience for me. I had Dr.'s and such saying "you are WAY to big to be in a tree stand". Looking back, I guess they were right, but I didn't think so at the time.

I have made the decision to talk to my hepatologist at my April appt. and see if he thinks it would be OK for me to get a breast lift with implants. This will mean putting off buying a boat for a year, but I think it would be worth it. I'm really not happy with my breasts. I'm OK now with the rest of my body. It just seems unfair to lose all this weight and have one body area that I'm so uncomfortable with. DH agrees that we can wait for the boat, if my Dr. approves of me having this PS. I won't have it done if my Dr. doesn't think it is OK.

I just made another appt. for a new haircut and hi-lights this evening. Yippee

Lily- I hope you get an OK from your liver doc! That's exciting It is frustrating to do so much work to lose, be able to maintain, and have parts that you can't do a thing about that bug you!

Do you know any surgeons who would do a vertebral implant? I'm trying to get taller....my doc said get him the parts and the intructions and he'd try

I sure hope my Dr. approves of me having the breast surgery. I want it really bad. I can live with how the rest of me turned out. I hate to get my hopes up , but it is exciting to think about it and want it.

The vet. says my puppies eye is going to be OK. Gave me antibiotic eyedrops for her. Said most likely "the cat clawed her".

Mel, I haven't known a Dr. that does vertebral implants, but I'm sure there is one out there somewhere. It's funny, I always wanted to be short/petite. I didn't get either. I still I wish I wasn't this tall. I have decided now that I am going to accentuate my height and wear some heels sometimes. I usually always wear flat shoes.

I got a new haircut/style with hi-lights today. I like it and so did my DH and kids. A new hairstyle sure makes me feel good. Now if I could get new breasts I'd just feel awesome. LOL. I'll have my DD take a pic of my new hairstyle and post it for you all to see.

I hope it's a go for you Lily. My breasts would take major overhauling at this point, maybe after I'm done nursing this next baby, though I'm afraid they might be beyond any surgeon's skill.

Mel-My oldest dd will have to have scoliosis surgery this spring. The surgeon said she should gain 1-1 1/2 ". I'll have to ask him about vertebral implants, LOL.

I am the boring average. Mid height, mid weight (now), brown hair, oh and saggy :}

Things are looking up. Last week was a rough week. DH was out of town on business, and I was trying to hold it together, take care of DD and not miss much work since I'm already running short of time off for the year. The cold I had hanging on for a couple weeks took a turn for the worse and ended up at urgent care with a really bad sinus infection and bronchitis, but fortunately no pneumonia. Anyway, I got my 2nd course of antibiotics for the year, DH came home ASAP, and a week later I'm feeling almost human again. I got my bikes all fixed up (at the shop) and am planning to ride this weekend. And the fallout from my chocolate self-medication turned out to be a smidge less than 2 lbs, so I got of pretty lucky.

Mel, I loved it when chunky heels were in fashion because then I could look taller and actually walk in the things. Plus I like calculating my BMI in heels!

Lily, glad to hear about the puppy. Hope you get good words on the surgery, although I'm rooting for that liver for you.

Meg, I'm not sure that lesson about easier to keep off than get off can really be learned, because I'm starting to think that at certain times in our lives, for whatever reasons--trivial or deep--that it just isn't true. It certainly wasn't for me in the last couple weeks. But it is equally profound to know that we have the capacity to bounce back.

Joy, I hope you are feeling better. You should be hitting the happy trimester any day now from your ticker.

Lisa, my breasts will need a major overhaul, that's for sure. I also nursed my kids. The bad thing is they are much saggier now that I lost the weight than they were when I was Huge. The top of them are flat and the bottom is round. I can't find a decent fitting bra for anything.

My hairdresser that did my hair yesterday has been my best friend since we were 6 yrs. old. She is a tiny, petite lady. She is having plastic surgery next Month to get rid of a double chin. She is the most athletic person I know. Works out constantly and stays in great shape. She has had a double chin for a few years now as she got older, and isn't overweight at all. Guess that goes to show that we all have body flaws no matter what our size. She is 5'1 and maybe 110 lbs. at the most.

Anne, I'm glad you are feeling better. Glad you didn't have pneumonia. Bronchitis is really rough too. Every time I get it, seems to take at least 2 rounds of antibiotics to get rid of it.

I never thought of calculating my BMI with heels on, but that would be fun. LOL.

Hi everyone! Well, this week's calories are way high for me . . . Saturday night my fiance and I had our belated valentine's day dinner at The Melting Pot (fondue restaurant). We didn't just overeat, we overate so much that my stomach was really upset before we even left the table. I have no idea how to enter it into fitday so I put in 6 cups of cheese fondue, since I think that meal must have been about 3000 calories (at least).

I blame the alcohol for making me eat too much. That and it tasting really good! But I do notice that if I am drinking I don't notice that I'm filling up until I am way too full. Aside from the massive overeating, the meal was really great. It took us three hours to eat! We had a swiss cheese fondue (they give you bread, veggies, and apples to dip in it), then a ceasar salad (with parmesan-crusted pine nuts, yum!), then the main course had lobster, shrimp, chicken, beef, and ravioli, in a coq au vin fondue, and dessert was a hazelnut chocolate fondue with strawberries, bananas, pineapple, biscotti, brownies, marshmallows, and cheesecake to dip in it.

Anyway I've learned my lesson. Next time we go there I will eat about half of what I ate this time, or less. Or we'll skip a course or something. Or just go for dessert. Man, it was tasty, but I felt super-gross afterward and Ben basically couldn't bring himself to eat until dinnertime the following day (I was actually kind of jealous -- I wanted to not eat to make up for it but of course I woke up with my stomach grumbling the next morning).

Anyway we're back to the routine now and back to the gym. Four gym days last week, aiming for four again this week (so that we get home before 7 at least one day so I have time to cook). The magic 3 lbs reappeared after that restaurant meal, but hopefully I can kick them again.

paperclippy, it's a good thing we don't have any restaurant similar to that near where I live. Your post had my mouth-watering.

My sister took me to a fondue restaurant once. While the food was okay, I didn't like myself afterwards. I smelled light hot oil! YICK.

DH, DS, DD and the IL's (inlaws) went out to dinner last night and then to a concert of the Dallas Brass. Awesome concert! It was a fundraiser for DD's HS band to help raise money for their trip to China this summer. The dinner was great, but it made my scale inch up. Ugh.

While I wouldn't mind a boob job (mainly I'd just like a lift!), I would really like to get my eyes done. My upper lids are droopy, not ptosis, I can open them just fine, but the part between the crease and the brow, it's all saggy and sometimes hangs over my eyelashes. One eye is worse and on bad days, my eyeliner only lasts for about an hour. That really steams me when I go out thinking I look okay only to look in a mirror later and see that black streak where it doesn't belong. The only other alternative would be an eyeliner tattoo, but I don't think I could tolerate that! I also have an icky chin, but it's one of those inherited things and I can't see how surgery will fix it.

Joy~good luck on your daughter's surgery. That has got to be difficult. Will they have to put rods in?

Anne~glad you're feeling better.

from the land of "almost well" I really feel I turned the corner about lunch time today. Amazing - I haven't been sick for whole week for years!

Alison - my eyelids are like that too. I'd like that fixed. But unless they nterfere with your vision, insurance won't cover surgery.

Lily - hope your surgeon approves the surgery for you.

Paperclippy - you need to go over to LWL and post that meal on the "food porn" thread.

Anne - good to see you. Glad you're feeling better. I ended up with my bike in the shop 2x last summer, so it better not need anything this year!

I did my elliptical for 13 min's today and my heart rate got up to 143. I felt like I was gonna die. One mile on that thing is a very hard workout for me. Then, I rested a while and did 1 1/2 miles on treadmill. I don't understand why that elliptical is so hard for me. It looks so easy, but it's not. I was having pain in my left hip and had just been doing the treadmill this last several days. I'm guessing that is why it totally kicked my booty.

I am needing to shop for a new swimsuit. Does anyone know where would be the best place to look. I definitely need one that the top part comes to the top of the bikini bottom. I'm so much bigger on top than bottom, that a one-piece doesn't work for me. I need tummy completely covered due to all my surgical scars. I hate shopping for swimsuits.

That's called a tankini. Lands End has nice ones. Sears carries them, if you want to try them on.

I second the Land's End recommendation on swimsuits. I think you can even buy tops and bottoms in separate sizes if you need to.
