Support Groups - "Every-Day" 21-Day Challenge -- It's about acCOUNTability!!

Okay, everyone, as is the tradition, I start a new thread when I personally start a new challenge.

Below is a short explanation of how this challenge works so all you newcomers can take a look and decide if you're game or not! I hope you are! Hop aboard and enjoy the ride. We've got a great bunch of supportive people, so I hope you'll give us a try. A lot of people try for a while and then disappear.. I hope some of you will keep trying. There is NO shame in starting over. Remember, it's not over till you give up. And our motto around here is:

NEVER GIVE UP!!...Just start OVER!!

EXPLANATION AND RULES:

It works like this: you decide you'll do something for 21 days straight, every single day, so keep it doable. Then you count ....one through 21.....and if you flub it, you MUST go back to zero and start over again. Everyone will be on different days. You can start anytime. At the beginning of the challenge you declare what level it is -- Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 means you feel it's a relatively easy challenge for you and means you only give yourself ONE pause day (see explanation of pause days below). Level 2 would give you two pause days and so on...
And taking NO pause days is what I'm going to call "aceing a challenge," as in "I'm aiming on aceing this one!" Yowzah!! :cb:

With a pause day you pause in your counting and continue the next day with the number you left off with. Pause days are NOT substitutes for days, i.e. Day 12 -- Day 13 -- Pause Day -- Day 14..... I suggest taking a pause day late in the game (better to go back to Day 1 early on) if you need a break or screw up when you're well into the challenge, meaning, when you're on Day 15 or something like that.

In any case, the trick is to keep going. The momentum builds and it's great incentive to stick to your guns, cause if you don't.........back to START you go. :( And the really great thing about this challenge is that you are forming new habits that will wipe out the old! AND, you get to do it with a great bunch of really supportive people to whom you are accountable! :grouphug:

THREAD GUIDELINES:

In the interest of maintaining structure, a sense of solidarity and facilitating support I ask anyone who wishes to join this thread to please strive to follow the following guidelines while participating in this challenge and in posting.

1. Although this is a fabulous support group, the focus is to be on your CHALLENGE/S and/or other people's challenge/s AND weight loss, whether your challenge is about it or not. Please keep the challenge a priority, although we welcome chattiness! This means tell us what day you're on when you post and it's a good idea to make regular mention of just what your challenge is. This an action-based thread. Our members are ON a challenge, RESTARTING a challenge, or just in between and looking to start up again REAL SOON. ;) We also welcome posts from admirers, encouragers, and old friends!

2. Please refrain from posting food logs or recipes, except where you are really looking for help and advice on your eating. If journaling is your challenge, please keep the journaling off the thread and in a notebook or blog and just tell us if you've done what you set out to do. We have ALL types of dieters here, low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, vegetarians, meat-lovers...please use simple mentions if you have something you want to share and then links and/or private messages to do so.

3. Please do NOT go into glowing accounts of any slipups, food indulgences or binges, what we here call "food porn." Simple mentions are fine, but use of smilies :censored: :tape: etc. as substitutes where possible is encouraged.

4. Please keep this a secular thread. Of course, passing references to your beliefs, a bit of introduction about your beliefs, brief faith-related words of encouragement are fine.

5. Please show support, support, support! This is key. :grouphug: You can waffle on about yourself but please, at least occasionally, come up and look around at others and what they are doing and MENTION it with words of encouragement and/or praise or sympathy. We understand "busy," poor computer connections, and bouts of self-pity and life problems where the focus turns to "me" and dealing with those problems, but these should be temporary, not a habit! ('cept in the computer case.)

In conclusion, let me say, the above are just that, GUIDELINES. Please realize that these guidelines have been added in an attempt to keep this a supportive and beneficial thread, at the LEAST, to those who need it MOST, those for whom weight loss is the hardest and, more often than not, the most crucial as well as for those who still, perhaps despite great success, know all too well that the road they walk will always be a slippery one. :^:

The guidelines are also meant to cultivate an atmosphere of consideration and concern for ALL, not individually, but AS A GROUP.

Well, all's said. Please join us!!

Day 3 5 minutes of intentional exercise - pause day
Day 2 Record everything on www.fitday.com - done!!

I ended up spending hourds at the emergency room with one of my client, culminating in a 13 hour shift, so no extra exercise for me here. However, I have an extremely physically demanding job, so it's not a total loss.

Heh all. I'm mid pigout right now, pigout as in a few days of a sugar splurge etc. :^: Going to put an end to it real soon before the damage is too great! I'll be in with a slew of challenges and this time I'm going to get really tough! I'm sick of being where I am, sick of seeing the fat in the riding arena mirrors. Yeah, OK, OK, I know you gotta be a stick to look good on a horse, but still, I need to get this weight down!

**************

sweet pea -- I'm so very sorry to hear about your cat. That must have been sickening to find her dead. I hope she wasn't too bad. It's my worst nightmare, to find one of my babies dead on the road. I did find one once but he had no signs of outer injury so I really don't know what happened. Another one of mine I found bloody and dead in the entranceway when I got home, but that was sickness I think. Another I found dead in the room, maybe a heart attack. Anyhow, I'm just saying, it's such a shock when you're not expecting it. I know how bad you must feel. The ones that go, I always try to think of them as still being with me, watching me in spirit. Maybe that would help you to think of that. In any case, a warm, consoling hug to you.

Well, I don't have time to write now...I'm beat and going to turn in. Catch up later. Rhia, welcome aboard! :welcome:

Ok, everyone, I'm starting up 7, yes 7!!!, new challenges. Here they are. I've even added the dreaded calorie count. Sunday, Feb. 11 is Day 1!! :dizzy:

No sugar -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left
No alcohol -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left
No processed foods -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left
Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 1 completed/3 pauses left
Food/Exercise Journal -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left
Calories counted/aim 2,000 -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left
Crunches -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left

Calories - <1500, day 7, 1 pause taken
Vege/fruit - at least 5 servings per day, day 8, no pauses taken
Food log every day, day 8, no pauses taken
Exercise - 30 minutes per day, day 8, no pauses taken

I like the first day when Red starts a new thread. Feels like a fresh start, even though we're all in various stages of our challenges.

Red - 7 challenges???? And several of them look very difficult to me. You're an inspiration!

Rhia - I keep looking at fitday, but it seems to complication, so I'm just using an Excel spreadsheet. Is it difficult once you get started?

DJ - you're doing well. Hope it's warmed out out there now.

Sweet Pea and others, have a great day!

Rabmonk006
02-11-2007, 12:12 AM
Ashley103 - I thought fitday looked too complicated at first too until I realized how easy it is once you get going. I have all the foods I eat regularly added to my custom food list so i just click on that food and it adds everything for me! That way I don't have to enter in the number of calories every time i eat that food :O

well, I have to try and remember where I left off with this hmmm
No Alcohol(Level 1) COMPLETE (1 pause used)
Count calories(Level 1) COMPLETE (0/1 pauses used)
15 min exercise(Level 3) ON DAY 17 (3/3 pauses used)
64 oz water(Level 3) ON DAY 1 (0/3 pauses used)

I have to start over the water one :/ For some reason this is like my hardest one! I can go 21 days counting everything I eat and drinking no alcohol but i cant drink a few cups of water lol. Ive had my 64 oz today though :carrot:

02-11-2007, 02:20 AM
Hey guys...love the challenge idea. I'm starting off with 4 challenges beginning Sunday February 11
1. getting in at least 64 oz. each day
2. logging in all my points for WW
3. 1,000 crunches each day
4. writing in my journal
*NO PAUSES ALLOWED*

RhiannonC
02-11-2007, 03:48 PM
Ashley103 I've found it really easy to use, with the click down menu functions, but user-interface preferences are so personal. Just take your time, oor kep using excel, whatever works.

Day 4 record everything on fitday, no pauses taken

I'm going to have to start again with the intentional exercise thing, I'll have to see how the day goes. I've just been really overwhelmed/unmotivated these last couple of days.

Awesome thread! I know I have a lot but they realy are ones I am currently working on that are really important to me!

Day 0 Calories 1200 -1400 1 pause left
Day 0 Daily Chores 2 paused left
Day 0 IRON PILL #1 no pauses allowed
Day 0 IRON PILL #2 no pauses allowed
Day 0 Home School Schedule 2 pauses allowed
Day 0 Power 90 video - no pauses allowed since it has pauses already!

Calories - <1500, day 8, 1 pause taken
Vege/fruit - at least 5 servings per day, day 9, no pauses taken
Food log every day, day 9, no pauses taken
Exercise - 30 minutes per day, day 9, no pauses taken

Elle - Welcome to the challenge. I have to ask - 1,000 crunches per day??? Wow!!!

Susisam - Welcome to you also. What is "home school schedule?" Are you a student or the teacher?

Rab - I never put drinking water as a challenge because I guzzle it constantly. For some reason, drinking sufficiently is easy. Eating 5 vege/fruit per day continues to be my biggest challenge. Some days I get to 8:00 and have to force myself to eat 3 servings.

Hope everyone else has a great week.

Day 1 on no X (not sure if I can use the word I need...).
Day 5 on no coffee.

No sugar -- Day 1 completed/3 pauses left
No alcohol -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left
No processed foods -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left
Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 1 completed/3 pauses left
Food Journal w/cal. estimate -- Day 0 completed/3 pauses left
Crunches -- Day 1 completed/3 pauses left

Ok, I'm revising the calorie thing. I'm just not ready for a count yet because I just don't have the time to be spending trying to figure it out, :dunno: but as a starter (and I do plan on getting there in the next round or so) I am going to combine the food journal and a calorie estimate each day!

I am having to restart the alcohol and no processed foods and the latter will not have liftoff till tomorrow at that. :^: BUT, sugar, alcohol, veg juice, journal AND crunches are getting a day notched TODAY!! :spin:

Sushi -- Good to see you back with us! Go ahead, you can say what you're staying off. I think it starts with a "ch" and ends with a "te" and has three syllables, no? ;) It's OK to say it, just don't give us too much detail, kind of a la fantasy! :lol3: And no coffee?! Wow. Aren't you going through severe withdrawal? How much were you drinking. I get withdrawal headaches if I miss my morning dose by a few hours. I know. It's bad. I am going to try to cut back again. It's been creeping up again, the amount I have daily. Well, good luck! :goodluck:

Ashley -- You're looking good. Thanks for the kind words about the new thread and my challenges. You can see, I chickened out on the hardest one, the one I most need to do, but I'm still trying to aim toward that, just with a nudging-in kind of challenge. I'm like you with water, love to guzzle it. I always have a bottle within reach.

sumi -- Welcome aboard! :welcome3: Glad you like the thread! :sunny: You've got some tough challenges there! Such a low calorie count! Are you sure that's OK? Also, I'm wondering by the looks of your photo just where you are going to find the weight to lose?! :?: Ok, it's a head shot but you look pretty thin to me! By the way, I see one of your daughters has a Japanese name and your handle sounds Japanese too. What's up? As you can see, I live in Tokyo, am American but have been here for years and years! :dizzy:

Rhia -- Good work on the food recording. Sorry to hear you're feeling out of sorts with the exercise, but come on, you can do some intentional exercise! You can! You can! :strong: Just do some floor exercises or something.

Elle -- Welcome to our thread! :welcome2: Yes, 1,000 crunches! Yowzah! I do 200 and think that's so-so. I could double it easily enough but five times that??? :stress: Don't think so. Well, good luck! :dancer:

Rab -- You did it!! On both alcohol and calories! Hoorah for you! Three cheers! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: And you're close on the exercise! Amazing stuff, you!!!

dj -- Where are you? :listen: Everything going OK out there? Getting real close on those two challenges! Best of luck!

Susisam - Welcome to you also. What is "home school schedule?" Are you a student or the teacher?

Ashley I am the teacher :) My kids are 6 and 7 and this is our third year. We are doing a classical education, which I love!

My daughter just finished a book that was 5.9 on the accelerated reading charts, which means 5th grade 9th month. I was astonished, this was a book SHE picked out from the library and read alone. She sat there for about an hour after she was done telling me every detail of the book, and it only took her a few days reading it. I never picked up books as a kid, sure I could read but I never enjoyed it untill much later. So I just love seeing them both enjoy it so much.

sumi -- Welcome aboard! :welcome3: Glad you like the thread! :sunny: You've got some tough challenges there! Such a low calorie count! Are you sure that's OK? RedBalloon: The low calorie count it just until I actually start exercising. I am very VERY sedentary right now. But it's one of my goals, guess once that goal starts going up I will have to change my calorie goal LOL

I am a Pear with a capital P. My top barely changed while my darn booty grows and grows and grows. ...thus the head shot haha!

Yes my name is Sumi. I am a quarter Japanese, my grandmother is full. She came to America with my grandfather when he was serving in World War 2 and the Korean war. But I have never been to Japan (want to, your so lucky!!) nor meet any of my relatives besides one letter to a great uncle. Nor does any of my family besides my grandmother speak Japanese fluently. No one can ever tell me ethnicity. I always get people asking because they just can not place me. LOL The rest of me is mostly Irish, although there is Cherokee Indian, Black Dutch?, and I hear tell that part of the Japanese is part Eskimo. But mostly I am Irish, I look just like my dad just with an Asian female twist LOL!

Day 1 Calories 1200 -1400 1 pause left

Day 1 IRON PILL #1 no pauses allowed
Day 1 IRON PILL #2 no pauses allowed
Day 1 Home School Schedule 2 pauses allowed
Day 0 Power 90 video - no pauses allowed since it has pauses already!
Thank you for the welcome everyone!

Well at least I did those three yesterday, I am counting our days off of school as keeping on schedule as that is part of the plan LOL. I wont start the exercise until after I am cleared for it in about a week.

Day 9 - Calories under 1800 - good - 2 pauses left
Day 10 - Calories under 1800 - pause - 1 pause left

Still here, just had a busy weekend, (seems to be every weekend). Had a rough one yesterday with the calories, I didn't even count them at all! The smoking thing is getting better, but I still am having some rough days. I think that is what is kind of throwing me off with the food.

:welcome: to the new people.

Morning all. It's Tuesday here. I was thinking it was Sunday yesterday because I had Monday off, but it's already Tuesday. The challenges are going to be tough, largely for the reason that it is more work and requires more awareness, not something I really have time for because it's new and difficult, BUT I have to or just stay stuck where I am. I could call off the other challenges but my health is more important to me and maintaining a decent level of fitness..not that doing crunches does that but they stop the slide into total sloth!
The juice and crunches are the easiest in a way because I can get them out of the way early in the day and not have to think of them. The others are all things I can forget or slip up on at any time...sigh. Especially, the no processed foods..I do forget that I'm doing it. And the alcohol...hmm...that is one that all too easily answers to the call of the after-work coworkers and it's a very strong call at times, especially after a very stressful day! :^: Wish me luck!

**************

dj -- Glad to see you're holding your own there. Yes, the smoking is surely playing havoc with your eating, but you're doing SO well! Keep it up! :strong:

sumi -- All explained now and very interesting. Yes, I can see the Japanese in you, the eyebrows for one! It's too bad you've never gotten over here. Do you speak any Japanese or read? Have you ever studied it? I hear you on the pear shape. I guess most women are and some just more so than others. You'd probably do well to build muscle below. Initially it may make you look bigger but in short time it would help firm things up and burn more fat in that area. Good luck with your challenges! :flow1:

I'm still here and still trucking along. Forget which day I am up to but I am still hanging in there with the exercise challenge. Must be nearly finished. When I get 5 mins, I'll go have a look.

Since the gym doesn't open early on Tuesdays, this morning I shot out for an early walk before it got too hot. Huh! It was 29C at 5.00am and I was soaked in sweat after my 5K.
Yesterday got to 39C about 108F and humidity in the 70%'s - please can we have some cooling rain. I'll take anyones rain that they don't want!!

Hey all. I disappear again for a few days, and POOF there is a new thread. Hello hello hello.

OK. So, bad choices again over the weekend. Was busy, crazy, whatever excuse I can use. Like you haven't heard it all before. The Queen of the Excuse, that's me.

So, starting tomorrow. . .

1) Daily exercise - level 3.
2) No unauthorized sweets - level 3
3) No soda - level 3

I am planning a cruise for May. I want to not look like Shamu. Kick my butt everyone!

Sorry so short. I am off to watch Westminster.

I had to take a pause day on everything.

Some of my co-workers brought in this big breakfast feast, and then "made" me join them. Once I'd had all that junk, I just couldn't stop myself from eating.

Then, went to the aerobics class at the gym after work. Waited and waited, but the instructor never showed up. Could have worked out by myself, but instead came home and wallowed in more food. I'm going to bed before my stomach explodes from all that food.:fr: New day tomorrow!!

Hi everyone.

Red~ I just love the keyword of your new thread "COUNT" - that's exactly the challenge I have to overcome if I will ever succeed in losing weight. Would you mind if I jump back in again?

My level 3 challenges are:
1. "Count" calories accurately - 1200-1500 net calories daily.
2. Exercise at least 30 minutes daily.

Good Luck to everyone.

Day 21 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - DONE
Day 21 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed! - DONE (of course, this is permanent)
Day 11 - Calories under 1800 - good - 2 pauses left

Wow, I'm so glad I got the smoking one done! That is gone for good as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not going to start another challenge at the moment. I've got to think of what exactly I want to work on.

Apple - Excellent job on the beer despite the stress! :cp: Good work!

Elle - That "me" time can be tough, but you're doing good on the other challenges. Think of it as building up to bigger things!

Ashley - Ok, you've kicked yourself in the butt, now get back to work! You'll do fine.

Red - We always are wishing you luck! You've done a lot of good with your challenges and despite the stress, you've held on well. Just keep thinking about how much you're helping your health.

Hi Jolly, Shad, Girlie & Sumisan, hope all is well.

Day 2 IRON PILL #2 no pauses allowed
Day 2 Home School Schedule 2 pauses allowed
Day 0 Power 90 video - no pauses allowed since it has pauses already!

Ok so I am still not doing my chores. I need to kick my own butt!!! I think I am on strike since my washing machine is acting up and I can not do laundry. Its even a new machine, one of those front loaders, but we think the pipe is frozen so it keeps giving us errors. I need to find the book and figure out what F H means LOL Exercise is still about a week away but I like looking at it haha, I feel like I could do it but dont want to risk hurting myself. I did do yoga kids with my children yesterday but that is barely a stretch haha

Oh so thats who I can blame for those things? I would wish these things on my worst enemy! They are even plucked right now! LOL The power 90 tapes alternate strength with cardio, so I am hoping that will do it for the muscle. They use resistance bands and squats (OUCH!!!!).

djstorey: AWESOME on the not smoking, you know they say 21 days makes/breaks a habit. You have hit that!

Susisam - funny how we have great new washing machines, but can't operate them any more. I remember how manual the machine was when I was a kid. Had to turn a crank and hold the clothes up to the wringer to squeeze out the water. And I'm "only" 48.

DJ - Woo-hoo for hitting your challenges. 21 days of no smoking is quite the accomplishment.

Girly - welcome back and good luck on your challenges. Your little dog is a cutie.

Apple - good job on the no beer challenge, especially with all your stress. Keep it going!

Elle - I'm still amazed that you can do 1,000 crunches. We probably did 200 at the gym tonight and it just about killed me.

Shad - your summers sound like ours. It will be in the 90s here every day with high humidity.

Red - I like your expression - "stop the slide into total sloth". That is quite the visual.

Jolly - hope you're counting up the days on your challenges.

Day 12 - Calories under 1800 - good - 2 pauses left

Happy Valentines Day!

Actually had a really good day yesterday. My youngest, who has been in speech therapy since he was 18 months and WAY behind in his speech, no longer needs the therapy! He was re-tested yesterday and tested out above average for his age now (he'll be 3 next month). Guess he was just a late bloomer! That will free up 1 day a week for me now, which I'm very happy about, although we loved the therapist and will miss her.

Thanks everyone for the nice words! Yes, I'm very proud of that no smoking one!

Red - Glad you're still at it! We know you'll get it together, just do what you need to do!

Sumi - What do you think of those power 90 workouts? Are they really tough? I'm really NOT a gluten for punishment, but I like the long, hard workouts and get mad when I put out the money for a workout and it's not what I want.

Hi Ashley, Elle and anyone else out there! Have a great day!

Calories - <1500, day 10, 2 pauses taken
Vege/fruit - at least 5 servings per day, day 11, 1 pause taken
Food log every day, day 11, 1 pause taken
Exercise - 30 minutes per day, day 11, 1 pause taken

I've reached the mid-point in the challenges. On the downhill from here on out! I've got a business trip coming up next week. Will be at a retreat with approx 30 people from work. Never a good situation for staying with the challenges, but I'm going into it with optimism.

DJ - that is wonderful news about your son. Getting therapy early before children start school is so important. He is ready to really jump in and succeed now.

Everyone - hope you are doing well with your challenges. Happy Valentine's Day to everyone.

Still here,
Think the exercise challenge is on about day 92.... well that might be an exageration but I'm still going on it. Not quite ready to commit to all that water again yet. Food is on plan - maybe I should start a stealth thingo, maybe no too as everytime I think about doing that some clot has a birthday and we have to go out to dinner.

Be back later.

Ok, I'm stopping my last challenge for the moment. I feel like I need to regroup on the whole diet thing and figure out exactly what it is I need to do. As soon as I figure it out, I'll post my challenges, hopefully in a few days.

Have a good one everybody!

Hello! I am on day 9 with no beer. :cp:
I'm not going to try the exercise thing again for a little while. Weekends always kill it when my husband is traveling so much. I do my best to exercise anyway, it's not a huge problem. But I have decided on 2 more challenges. All the recent talk about caffine has made me decide to cut back. Only 1 cup a day.:coffee: I've been feeling really crappy lately, and not sleeping well, so maybe a little detox is in order. And I'm done with day 2 there, and is a level 2. And a little exercise....1000 steps on my stair stepper and 100 calf raises or whatever you call them. Actually, I'll do them tonight and see how many I can do, then come up with a number. 2 pauses on both of those.
Way to go DJ, on finishing:hat: :cp: :cheer2: :cheer: :cheer2: :woohoo: with the challenges!!
Way to go ashley, for getting half way there!

Day 5 on no X (yes Red, it's chxxxte) and going good.

Day 1 on coffee today. I managed to get to Day 6, but I'm determined about making it today 7 or 8 without a pause. I didn't sleep well, and had to stay awake while doing my history readings, so some coffee was badly needed on day 7. And on day 8, and day 9. So I could be on day 10 with no pauses left, but like I said, I want to get to day 8 without a pause. Not sure how it's going to go from here, sleep is whacko and stress is starting.

Red, I don't think I'm getting withdrawal at all, actually. The times when I was drinking 3-4 coffees per day are long gone - more than one cup makes me feel sick these days, and I've grown very picky. I'll only drink the coffee I know I'll like, not just any coffee because it's coffee. I drank it because it was part of my day, not because I needed it. It's good to be back to milk. :)

Apple - no beer and no coffee. Good for you!! Sorry you're not feeling well.

Sushi - even if you had some pause days, sounds like you weren't drinking much coffee, and you're back on track now. Very brave of you to give up x. I don't have too much of it anymore, but I sure couldn't give it up entirely.

Red - hope things are a little calmer in your job this week.

DJ - after giving up smoking, you can do anything. Looking forward to hearing about your new challenges.

Shad - sticking with the exercise is great. And you should count your food stealth!!

Have a great weekend, everyone.

I was going to start everything over but reconsidered, realizing I already had 5 days under my belt on no sugar. That's not bad. The alcohol is going to stop though. I feel awful and it's not helping things at all! :nono: The juice and crunches, I will just have to get serious about. Set up my new super juicer and get with it! :strong: I'm going to can the no processed foods and just make writing it all down the challenge, no emphasis on calories for now. I'm going to focus on looking at how and why I eat and how I felt about it. Was it out of frustration? Was it just grabbing something because my schedule had kept me from a decent meal? Whatever? That's what's happening and it's not good. If I have to disappear from work to give myself a good meal then that's what I must do. :stress:

Talk to you all later I hope!

Still going on the exercise one. This week completed with a gentle 30 minute walk this morning and if I feel really enthusiastic a swim after work this afternoon.
So 7 days straight on committed exercise. That has to be a record for this little black duck (chick?). No that's not a racial comment. It's a slang expression over here. So don't start getting up me - okay?

I think I'll just carry on with this exercise one until I after I go home next weekend and after I get the water thingy until control again. I guess I'm having too much fun organising my trip away in May and June to psych myself into a new challenge.

Sushi -- Thanks...it all helps. Without the encouragement I wouldn't even be here... You're rollin' on that no :censored: stuff. :bravo: Good for you! You're lucky not to be getting withdrawal on the coffee. Wow!

Ashley -- Thanks too for the well wishes. Work just gets worse. I really don't know how much longer I can take it. I've never been too good about working amid stupidity and/or outrageous acts of the high and powerful degenerates known as upper management, but here at mid-management level it's really the pits. Lower down I at least wasn't in the direct line of fire.

dj -- You still around? Hope you can figure something out real quick. How about just doing a nondiet-related challenge in the meantime to keep us all company? :( And, yes, that is great news about your son! Are you still off the fags?

Bean -- Is that you, Elle? You changing your identity on us midstream? I think so....couldn't be two of ya with 1,000 crunches! How's it going?

I leave tomorrow for a business trip, so won't be back to 3FC until Weds night at the earliest. I find it very difficult to stay with the challenges when traveling, but am going to try my best to keep on track. I'm going to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where the highs will be in the upper 70s, so at least the weather will be nice.

Red - it really can be an eye-opener when we start looking at when/how/why we eat. I believe eating is more about emotions than it is about hunger for most of us. Thank you for the link. That comment makes a lot more sense now.

DJ - happy birthday to your son. My son turns 30 this year. I cried and cried the year I turned 30. How could I possibly have a child turning 30 in a few months?

Apple - hard to believe it's getting close to shorts weather. I was packing for my trip and decided the shorts can stay home. I'm not putting my stark-white legs out there for co-workers to see in February.

Shad - how long will you be gone on your trip? Is the planning lots of fun?

Sushi - you made it through the weekend without xx! Good for you.

Everyone else - hope to hear from you soon. Keep truckin' with your challenges.

Be back on Weds.

What a good idea. Newbie here and I'm up for the 21 day challenge.
Day 0 - drinking 64 oz water
Day 0 - 15 min. on stationary bike (to burn off stress!)
Day 0 - 5 min (at least) stretching

I don't understand pauses but will read that over again.

I'm really good at planning what I should do - really bad at sticking to it - so here goes - lets do it together - we are worth the effort!

I actually joined this challenge when I first joined 3fc, but never completed any of my challenges. Now I've gotten things down and finally losing weight...I would like to work on not eating as much beef as I do.

I'll going with 2 pauses days. One for the left over jambalaya I have about one serving of in the fridge. No beef for 21 days.

Also no applebees for 21 days. Eating there is in my plan, but don't like that I go so often. No Pause days.

Hi all. I am slinking back in yet again. Have patience with me - I really am trying to get back on the wagon. This last week some work issues came up, and i used that as an excuse to eat. Then, I gave myself food poisoning (oh, you shouldn't make a chef salad with chicken that had been thawing for a week???), and that threw things off as well. I do want to get healthy. I do want to make good choices. I do want to finish what I started.

So, again, my goals starting today, all at level 3, are:

1) Daily exercise

2) No unauthorized sweets.

3) Daily post on 3FC!

Honestly, I wonder if I am not going through a mild depression. I just haven't had the energy to do any of the things I enjoy doing. Hence the last goal - I need to make time for the important things.

Anyway, I am off to the gym and work. Have a good day all, and give me a kick in the butt as you go

Quote from Red's article:
As his personality gained depth at the hands of Warner Bros cartoons’ directors, the little black duck became more self-analytical, competitive, peevish, paranoid, and neurotic”.
Ha  Ha  ha  Now if that doesn't describe the Aussie, I don't know what does. Okay, now I will have the wrath of the entire Aussie chicks thread plus the numerous other Aussies in here down on me - here comes some more exercise - ducking for cover!!! :lol3: :lol3: :lol3:

Ashley, I am planning my tri-annual overseas jaunt. This year I am going to USA and Canada and I will be away around 5 weeks. This will be probably the 2nd to last big trip I will make. I want to go back to UK and Europe again as well but that is another 3 or 4 years away yet. I'm visiting Arizona, New Mexico, Tennessee, (Florida as well????) New York, New Jersey, Toronto, possibly Ottawa, Banff, Lake Louise, Vancouver and BC and possibly San Francisco (this is probably going to be my entry and exit point). If any of you live in the path of Hurricane Shad on her travels and have time for coffee or a meal or just a plain ol' catchup, then I'd love to meet up. The full itinerary and dates won't be available for another couple of weeks. Gotta sort out the route and the funds.

Anyway - exercise done and dusted for another day. I just wish I could see the benefits of all this good eating and exercise. It's gotta come one day.

Shad -- You're too funny! Yes, I thought that part in the black duck explanation could catch some flak. I don't know the Aussie personality, but from what I've seen of people here it may not be so far off the mark. Again, generalizations don't mean all that much. The culture does hit me as much, much more homogeneous than the States. I guess it is, being, what, largely Irish and English? Your trip sounds exciting. You may have to extend it after the Aussies find your comment and gang up on you! Good going on the exercise. :cp: You are seeing the results, maybe not in weight loss but think of what you are NOT seeing, such as you ballooning up beyond your wildest imagination!

jolly -- Patience with you is not a question. Of course, we have all the patience you want! Just glad to see you keep trying. Poor you with the food poisoning! Gosh, I know how awful that is. Good luck and stay strong!

Obsidian -- Good to see you back. Good luck! :goodluck:

I am off to bed. I am still needing lots of sleep. Hopefully, since I actually managed to eat SENSIBLY today, I won't be up with acid reflux tonight. Let's hope. And, since in my battle with the treadmill, the treadmill won, I am hoping it will be un-icy enough that I can run outside tomorrow. I am shooting for 2 miles. Ok, I need to get back into things here.

So, here it is...

5 servings fruits/vegies per day, level 3
64 oz water per day - level 3
log all calories - level 1

I know I need to get those calories under control again, but I'm holding off for a bit. I ordered myself a heart rate monitor that calculates calories burned and I really want to see what it says. I know it's not 100% accurate, but they're supposed to be pretty close most of the time so we'll see what it says and go from there.

Jolly - Great going on the jogging! That's something I've been wanting to do, but with the smoking, I just couldn't! Now that I've quit, I'm going to start working up to jogging as soon as the weather starts to cooperate!

Sushi - Good job on the no coffee or ch*&@^te. I don't know if I'll ever get that far myself with the coffee. I love that darn stuff and it's my last vice! Hope you got some sleep!

Red - You should be proud of the challenges you've been doing! Besides, you've done really well with the no sugar in the past so I know you'll get there again!

Shad - Wow, that is some trip you have planned! Sounds like a lot of fun.

Obsidian - Nice to see you back. Good luck with your challenges.

Joyfull - :welcome3: Glad to have you here! Good luck with your challenges.

Ashley - Hope your business trip was good. Isn't it funny that as your kids grow up, you really don't feel older until they have those darn birthdays!

Well, I'm just not up to getting those other challenges started. It's not good but I'm going to take it. At least the other three are moving along and although they've become pretty ingrained, dare I say habits, they are still all too easily put off if I don't make them a challenge. Hmm....thanks for the idea. In any case, you're doing well. Hands off the sherry! :nono: Sorry about the ughh moment. Just look at how far you've come. Obsidian -- A day notched! :cp: Good luck on the new one! :goodluck:

dj -- Thanks! I need all the encouragement I can get these days. A lot of the eating I'm doing these days has NOTHING to do with food and I hadn't been doing that in a long time. The scary thing is I'm allowing it, knowing full well what I'm doing and where it can, no, will, lead if I don't put a stop to it. I have one of those heart rate monitors...maybe I should use it and get motivated... good luck on your challenges! :trampo:

Red, I hear you on the confidence being at rock bottom. Mine sure is there. Sushi, what WAS your caffeine of choice? Mine was diet soda. And I found that if I drank a decaffeinated version, it kind of mentally helped me over the hump. Just a thought.

I WOULD like to try a no alcohol challenge, but the timing and ( and current stress level) needs to be just right. Yes Red, no beer cuts A LOT of calories out. I can easily throw back 3 or 4 beers but mixed drinks only one and wine, one glass maybe 2, depending on the social situation. But cutting it all out isn't a bad idea.

Heyall. Well, the only challenge I met today was to post here. And, that was really hard to do, since I did not meet the other two today. I have no excuse for the eating. The exercising? well, I was still sore from either the jogging or the fall on Tuesday. And since puppy woke me up an hour early with "Play? Playplayplayplayplay!!!" I didn't have the energy to do much else. I am going to try and keep going with all my challenges, and complete them without another restart.

Have a wonderful day all.

Notched today:
Day 11 on no chxxxte
Day 7 on no coffee

I have succeeded!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!! If anyone remembers, my goal was to last a week without coffee. I got as far as day 5 and day 6 recently, but then had to have some coffee to stay awake on a school work day. The fact that we've just had the reading week (no classes) here definitely helped, but I'm still very happy. :) I'm going to continue with the challenge, naturally, and aim for 21, but I'm not too fuzzed about getting there this time. Let's try to make it to day 10 for now. :P In theory, I still have three pause days left, but I have this thing about not using them.

Day 3 - 5 servings fruits/vegies per day, level 3 - good
Day 3 - 64 oz water per day - level 3 - good
Day 3 - log all calories - level 1 - good
And at Apple's suggestion: Day 31 - No smoking - good - No Pauses

Got all challenges yesterday, not sure what will happen today though. My little one has a bad cold and I woke up with it this morning! The water I'm sure I'll drink, just because it feels good on the throat, the other challenges? I'll try.

Welcome back Ashley! Glad to hear you didn't go totally wild during your trip.

Sushi - Congrats on that coffee challenge! You're doing great.

Jolly - Hope you can meet those challenges!

Hi Red and everyone else out there! Have a great day.

Hey all. Just a quick post, so I don't forget to post. All challenges met today. Not sure what days I am on - will have to check tomorrow.

Well here goes, in the midst of exams :book2:
and winter I have decided that a challenge will help me to focus, and remind me that a little willpower does exist if I manage to harness it... and it will get me through. I have decided to make the challenges positive changes rather than stopping myself from doing something, I hope it will help me in being successful!

so for my 21 day challenge starting tomorrow (Febuary 25 2007)(it is almost midnight) I will:

1. complete 40 minutes of exercise a day.
2. drink 1.5 litres of water a day.
3. substitute 2 hot drinks a day with herbal tea.
4. fresh fruit every day (x3)

When I succeed with this, I will begin a new challenge with a few more changes to work towards... baby steps!

DJ - sorry to hear you've not been well. Hope you continue to improve.

Red - looks like you continue to be very busy. Doing a great job with the alcohol/crunch/water challenges.

Jolly - glad you made it home safe and sound through the blizzard. It only made it up to 67 here today!!

OK - y'all. I need to restart my eating challenge tomorrow. And, depending on whether you accept shoveling as exercise, I need to restart that one too. I didn't make it out of the house today or yesterday. But I did do some shoveling. I don't know who is really supposed to be doing it here, but I was sick of not being able to walk out of my apartment without sinking up to my knees in snow.

So, will be doing a restart tomorrow. YIKES :fr:

As far as I can figure, here are my stats:
Day 18 no beer (2 pauses allowed and NONE used!)
Day 9 1 cup of coffee (2 pauses allowed, none left... )
Day 8 calf raise (2 pauses allowed, 1 used)
Day 4 10 min stair step (2 pauses allowed, 1 used)

Well, even though it LOOKS like I'm doing well, I am gaining weight.:(
I'm dealing with some PMS these last few days, which for me results in uncontrolable binge eating. Whee!
:eating2: :hun: :corn:
I hope I can turn this all around. I was hoping for Feb to be the month where I really kick it, but here I am, same old same old.

Good morning, all. I will be starting with new vigor today, buoyed by an at-long-long-last progress in my riding yesterday that has me so happy. It is a minute thing but even such it just made me so happy. I wasn't seeing any progress in my riding, things were getting harder and harder and seemingly impossible. It was affecting my confidence and even had me ready to admit defeat. But, I kept trying and took time out from lessons to work on my own. AND, yesterday, it really seemed I had made a breakthrough. Sigh. Yes, it was so small, that though my teacher noticed it, she didn't make anything of it. Still, I think it was an important breakthrough and my horse felt happier! :spin:

Ok, don't mean to go on about horses, but there is a direct correlation to diet and the weight loss (and lack of it). I was eating and not caring and though I stuck with my challenges I only stuck with the ones that didn't directly affect weight loss. Still, it kept me treading water, not going under.
Like yesterday, when I said to someone after my ride, "I think I made some progress today!" I knew that it was actually..."I think the progress I've been making all along manifested itself today."...which is what so often happens in the diet game. You've got to have faith and keep on!

**************

Apple -- There you are! I'm sorry to hear that you're bingeing and gaining but 18 days off beer is awesome! Like I was saying above, there is progress happening behind the scenes. At some point you're going to be able to connect the progress that IS going on and have that connection result in outward signs of it. You know what I mean? Your discipline in other areas, such as staying off the brew, is going to make other discipline easier, other resolve, and THAT will then flick the switch and the weight loss will happen. You'll make it happen! Do NOT give up! :nono: And I bring you yet again one of my favorite quotes*

"Do not let your fire go out,
spark by irreplaceable spark,
in the hopeless swamps
of the approximate,
the not-quite,
the not-yet,
the not-at-all.

Do not let the hero
in your soul perish,
in lonely frustration for the life you deserved,
but have never been able to reach.

Check your road
and the nature of your battle.
The world you desired
can be won.

It exists,
it is real,
it is possible,
it is YOURS."

(Ayn Rand)

jolly -- Heh there! Shoveling is most definitely exercise! Take it! And good luck! :goodluck:

Ashley -- Looking good! Looking good! :bravo:

bleu -- "Baby steps?!?!?" Those don't look like baby steps to me! You've got some tough challenges going there. Best of luck and I hope to see lots of you! Where abouts in the U.K. are you?

dj -- 32 days off smoking?! You are rockin'!! :congrat: And congrats on your challenges! Logging calories is something I need to learn!

Sushi -- That's good news on the caffeine challenge. I don't know how you do it. I would be in agony, then unable to move. Glad to hear it!!

Thanks Red! :) It's been easier this past week than it would have been any other week, as there was a week's break at the university. We'll see what happens this week - I think I'll have some staying up to do!

For now, today it's day 14 on no chxxxte and day 10 on no coffee.

I've made it to day 10 YAY!!! :D I have got a dilemma with the other challenge though...
While I was at work yesterday, a girl reported that her coat and the cash which she had in her wallet (but not the wallet or the numerous cards she had in it) had been stolen. She wasn't that concerned about money, but the coat was a problem - it was the only one she owned, and it's been -20 C outside these days. I lent her the fleece I wear under my coat on freezing days. The sleeves were way too short for her, but at least it was something. She could have caught pneumonia even waiting for a cab. She brought it back earlier today and with it a little box which contains something edible. I can't have it because I'd have to break my challenge... you know me and my resistance to take any pause days even though I always allocate myself three of them  Normally, I'd keep the thing to have at some point in the future, like in two months... But this particular one will not keep fresh. And I feel that it would be discrespectful to give it to someone else or throw it away... So what do I do?

PS: Red, yes, keep the faith and keep moving! Great to hear about the riding breakthrough. :)

Red - how wonderful that you had a great day with the horse. And you're exactly right about progress manifesting itself after so much work.

Jolly - I haven't lived where there has been snow to shovel for many years, but if my memory is correct - it was HARD WORK. Of course it counts as exercise. I pay good money for a gym membership where I don't work that hard.

Apple - hang in there and keep the faith. Think where you'd be if you weren't meeting your challenges. 18 days without beer is nothing to sneeze at. You can do it!!

Sushi - That was wonderful of you to lend the woman your coat and it's not disrespective to do what's right for you. You could consider a compromise on the treat if you think you can stand firm on your resolve. Keep one bite out of the treat and throw the rest in the trash and squirt dish soap on it. AFTER you've destroyed the rest, then eat your bite. You can honestly tell her that it was delicious, and yet won't have to wear it on your hips. Or worse yet, lose your resolve.

Everyone else - hope you're doing well.

Then again, I don't think it's disrespectful to give it away, if your friend doesn't know about it. You can always tell a little white lie and say the goodies were wonderful. They were...it doesn't mean you had to eat them. Thanks for the nice words on my riding "breakthrough."

Well, the good news is that DH might be around a bit more this month. I'll be able to exercise more anyway.
I had to get rid of a pair of pants today because the courdoroy along the inner thighs has all rubbed off. Gross. Bleh. I have no pants to wear now. Well, I'm down to 2 pairs and one pair is a little tight but with this coming week dealing with menstural bloat etc I just want to wear sweat pants but I don't even have a decent pair of those. Bleh. I hate spending money on pants when I have a closet full of them, one size too small. I guess I'll try some second-hand shops tomorrow.

I was REALLY close to skipping the gym and heading for a pig-out session with junk food tonight. Then a friend called and asked me to go with her to the gym, so I did. After that, I was too sweaty to go eat out without showering. So I stayed home, showered and took a nap instead. I'm feeling pretty self-righteous at the moment and the crushing desire to eat seems to have passed. Wish it would stay gone.

Ok my internet service got cut off as my payment got lost in the mail UGH and took forever for to work out. I was really keeping track of my days although I know I was doing good, but I am going to start them all over beginning at the beginning of this week which is about as far as my short term memory goes, just to be fair :)

djstorey - Sorry this is so late - the P90 workouts are not super hard at first but the upper level is much harder. Level 1/2 is very easy but for a complete beginner like me it still kicks my arse. I finally started after getting the go ahead, this time it is much much easier than the first time I did it, I assume it is because my anemia is getting better. (which proves that I have been anemic for a very very long time)

So I am going to spend today catching up on all my threads, I have been going crazy not being able to log on. :)

Thank you all for your suggestions. :) Notice I'm not saying what I actually did... ;) No regrets though. :)

Day 17 on no chxxxte (there was a pause), Day 13 on no coffee.

Yay, it's almost 2 weeks without coffee! I'm not expecting this state to last much longer though. This week isn't going too great for me, and today was an exceptionally crappy day (not food or weight related, just life stuff). I might start needing the coffee - very badly and verys oon.

I really hoped that the desire for candy would have decreased by now, but no such luck. Instead, the desire seems to increase every day. I really admire those of you who've quit smoking and quit drinking coffee. It takes such tremendous will power. Somehow, the vege/fruit challenge got away from me today. It's 8:15, and I've only had one serving. Too late in the day to try to put away 4 more servings, so I'm just taking a pause on that.

DJ - what kind of business are you looking at? I've always admired people with the nerve to start their own business. I wish you the very best.

Sumi - glad to see you're back with us, and doing so well besides.

Sushi - I had to laugh when I saw that you took a pause day. Hang in there with the coffee - you're so close to your 21st day. Keep the faith!

Red - you're getting into the countdown with a couple of your challenges too. We'll be starting a new thread before we know it.

Good luck tomorrow to everyone.

Hello all. For some reason, my posts appear to be getting eaten. I have been posting every day. REally!

I may have to take a pause on exercise. I didn't make it when I planned on, due to stopping after work to book my cruise. I was hoping to go as soon as I get done with my meeting minutes, but it is snowing pretty good. Again. Blech.

I am depressed today since my weight still hasn't budged in 2 weeks, I have been eating in my calorie range and everything. I need to chop off an arm obviously to see a loss. I haven't really gained though either, just bopping up and down across the 180 line. Oh but I checked my bodyfat on my scale and when I started it was at 36 and now it is 32! Maybe I did it wrong, but that helped me feel better LOL :)

Well, I notched another day and it's looking rough, but I think I can manage. Yesterday, I amazed myself with all I had to do before I left my place and I had to leave punctually in order to get the train and I did it!! Why, talk about multitasking! I knew it would be a late night, so I just had to make the juice and do the crunches in the a.m. and we're talking before 6 a.m., take a shower, make breakfast, feed the cats etc. etc. etc. and I did it! :dizzy: Well, here's to keeping the reins taut! :cp:

Crunches -- Day 17 completed/1 pause left
Fresh vegetable juice -- Day 16 completed/0 pauses left
No alcohol -- Day 13 completed/0 pauses left
Food Journal -- Day 5 completed/3 pauses left
No sugar -- Day 4 completed/3 pauses left

**************

bells -- Welcome aboard. Get those vitamins in! :welcome3:

sumi -- Good to see you again. Starting over is just a technical thing. All the days you did notch previously are still in the bank! Don't mind the scale and the hovering. I've been hovering for years! At least you are staying an upward climb! You have to think of that. People mostly think of losing weight as the only progress but maintaining is just as difficult I think. Hope you feel better.

jolly -- Excellent work! :bravo: You made it to the gym! Give yourself a big pat on the back!

Ashley -- Yeah, I'm getting near the final days. I won't start a new thread until probably all the challenges are done. Since I've been doing multichallenges the start of a new thread is something I do when I'm feeling it's a new start in some way, not necessarily that all my challenges are done or that new ones are starting...anyhow. You're doing well on your challenges, ok, a pause on veggies but the calories, wow! I don't know how you do it but you are. Keep it goin'! :dancer:

Sushi -- That's what pauses are for...just keep it going! I hear you on the coffee. Is that a challenge or not? And if not can you incorporate some sort of cutback on caffeine into your "needing" coffee but still wanting to cut way back? Sometimes the all-or-nothing mind gets the better of us. You're not doing that, are you?

dj -- Sorry to hear things are stressful but you are still hanging in there and if you do stick to your challenges you will feel all the more empowered. Remember, you are in your stretch zone and that's the only way to change and become stronger. You are going to need this if you start your own business, something I want to do too. I am probably in serious danger of being demoted or fired because I am butting heads with our stupid president and I have to be prepared for the boot. I will not be humiliated or made into a puppet. How I wish I had an idea for my own business. Best of luck to you and your husband. Go for it. If it doesn't work out there are more jobs out there for you, right? Well, in any case, the structure of a challenge is probably good for you. Keeps you focused, right?

Apple -- Heh, did you finish your challenge?!? You must have, no? I hope so. Oh, don't worry about the pants. The corduroy rubbing away is inevitable. You don't want to be one of those people with thighs that don't rub. That's gross looking! :barf: Buy the pants. It'll make you feel better about yourself. It makes no sense to beat yourself up and then expect yourself to feel motivated. :nono: Come on, you can do it!

Hello everyone. Red, congrats on multitasking. Woo hoo. Sumi, keep it up. It will show up eventually, if you are making good choices. Honest.

Day 10, daily exercise and daily posting challenge met - 2 pauses left. Day 2, no unauthorized sweets challenge met - 3 pauses left.

Did any of y'all see the March "O" magazine. There is an article on on-line weight loss, and guess what website is the first and foremost mentioned??? Here's to us!

Hey all....
Yes, I did finish the no beer challenge!!!!! With NO pauses taken either!!! So I guess I get to buy a pair of shorts. Which I really don't feel like thinking about right now, due to bloating and general "I feel fat" syndrome.:p
The other challenges are going OK, Day 13 less coffee, day 12 calf raises and day 8 stepping. I'm going to start another beer challenge. Actually, I think I'll make it a no alcohol challenge this time.:fr: Or maybe I'll keep them seperate. Day 1 No Beer ( 2 pauses allowed) Day 1 No alcohol, 3 pauses allowed. I'll try it.
Hi Red, good save! You're just cruising along!!:cp:
Dj, you're crusing along too, as usual! Wow, starting up your own business IS scary, and you're sure to have lots more stress in your life. Just try to stay relaxed, and stay in control of little things like your challenges to stay sane. You'll be fine!!!
Nice to have you back, Sumi. I was wondering where you went!
Jolly, you are doing great too! Good save on the exercise!

The morning of
Day 19 on no chxxxte
Day 15 on no coffee

I'm so tired. Nearly fell asleep in class yesterday, yet still didn't get to sleep until very very late despite my good intentions... had a lovely long talk with boyfriend which lasted until almost 1 am. At 3 am, I got woken up by the monser wind - it was hitting the house so hard the noise wouldn't let me sleep... Sigh.
We had the worst winter storm of the season yesterday afternoon/evening. Traffic was hardly moving at all. My bus trip from the campus usually takes 9-13 minutes. Well, guess what? I was at the station for 55 minutes waiting for the bus to show up... In the end I gave up, took the train to the closest station to home and walked the rest of the way. I wish it was a snow day today (so I could sleep), but no, we're having heavy rain. Grrr!

Doing good except the chores. I think its because we are in the middle remodeling and our house looks like a war zone. If it were finished I dont think I would be avoiding looking at it LOL I also have like 20 boxes of stuff I want my hubby to store in the basement but he want to pressure wash it first (this doesnt sound like a good idea to me but whatever) So that is taking up most of the rest of the room that isnt either unfinished, destroyed, striped or storing materials for the job. So there are my excuses now I need to just B**** slap myself and get to it!

:) Sushi: The wind out here is insane, I had several shingles dislodge yesterday! But at least its a little warmer now :) I hope the weather lasts, I want spring SOOOOOO BAD!!! I need to see green again!!

Day 8 & 9 - 5 servings fruits/vegies per day - good - 2 pauses left
Day 9 & 10 - 64 oz water per day - level 3 - good
Day 9 & 10 - log all calories - level 1 - good

Yep, still here, just been really busy. I actually gave my notice at work yesterday. I left it open ended though. I told my boss to look for someone else and not to worry if she finds someone quickly or if it takes 2 or 3 weeks. The one thing that I'm really looking forward to is not having to get up at 2:30 every morning! I can actually go back to a normal schedule.

Sumi - Wow, remodeling! Been there myself and it's so hard to live with the craziness! I feel for you.

Sushi - Hope the weather gets better for you! I'm not sure where you are, but I've been hearing on the news how bad some of those storms have been the last couple of days. Stay safe!

Apple - Good luck with your new challenges! You're doing great with the other challenges you've been doing. Wait till that bloating is gone and go out and buy those shorts! I'm jealous that you have shorts weather there!

Red - You're cruising right along with your challenges! Believe me, I know how hard it can be when you're stressed, but you're doing great!
Yes, starting a business is very stressful, but it is exciting too. I told my husband that I would concentrate on the business 100% for now, but if things don't work out, I'll just have to go back to work full time. Luckily I still have my degree to fall back on, I just have been out of the field for a few years now and will have to play catch-up if I go back! (computer stuff changes fast!)

:welcome3: bells! Glad to have you here.

Ashley - Staying away from a favorite sugary snack can be so hard! Just make sure you don't keep any in the house so you won't be tempted.
The business we're starting is a hauling business. We have so much construction around here right now that it's crazy. A friend of my husbands bought a dump truck for almost 200,000 and has almost paid it off in only 1 1/2 years along with almost paying off his house. I'm not expecting anything quite so grand myself, I'm just hoping we'll do reasonably well. I'm not much of a risk taker, so this is really hard for me!

Jolly - Good going with your challenges and getting that exercise in even when it's hard to fit in! You've been doing really good.

Exercise - 30 minutes per day, day 9, 3 pauses left

I went to dinner and a concert with a friend last night and had a great time. Unfortunately, I tipped over the calorie threshold and also didn’t eat my vege’s or log the food. But I had a great time, so it was worth it. Now back to reality today. One day off certainly doesn’t impact the overall program. Not getting back to reality does!

DJ – getting up at 2:30 every morning?? I can see how you’d look forward to that. A hauling business should certainly keep you busy. It’s very exciting to be looking forward to a new venture, especially one that you control. You’ll do great.

Bells – welcome to the 21 day challenge. You’re off to a good start. You’ll find great support and encouragement here.

Sumi – remodeling is tough. All that junk everywhere and grit in everything. Glad to hear it is starting to warm up there. We had a “cold spell” over the last two days – it only got up to 67 yesterday!

Sushi – has the desire for chxxte lessened as you’re getting close to the end of your challenge? Sorry to hear the weather is so bad there also. Sounds like you should get the award for perseverance for your commute yesterday.

Apple – congratulations!!! Finishing your challenges is outstanding – especially with no pauses taken. I’ve not had that much discipline yet, although I keep trying.

Jolly – Glad to hear you’ve been with us, even if your posts go into la-la-land. I’ll have to look at the magazine – nice to see 3FC get some publicity. The support found here is incredible.

Red – you’re really working hard with all your challenges even with the stress in your life. Think how stressful it would be if you weren’t keeping such great control over these aspects of your life. You’re doing an incredible job keeping the reins taut.

Have a great weekend. Hope those of you who've been having bad weather see a little sunshine!

Remodeling is driving me crazy because everything else hinges on another thing happening. Like my dining room needs to be tiles to get my dining table out of the kitchen so that I can build the island. And the living room cant get flooring untill all the kitchen boxes are out of there. Really we are very close, if only I could get a week straight with my hubby. Once he finishes helping a friend with his new house they promise to come work on ours as long as I cook them some good home cooked meals.

Have a great one you guys (er gals lol) :) --Sumi

Thank you :)

Have you guys heard about the huge winter storm which ravaged Soutern Ontario on Thursday? :P That's why I had to wait so long for my bus.
Yesterday it was warmish, and all the snow started melting. However, the melt water had nowhere to go because the drains were blocked by piles of snow which had not yet melted.
My 2 minute walk to the bus turned into a waddle through ankle-deep water channels. It also took twice as long, and I missed the bus, thus having to do more waddling to reach the stop for the other bus line.
Today it wasn't warm enough, and all that water froze. In most spots, it's black ice. Needless to say that I missed the bus again this morning... The past couple of weeks had been sort of dry, so I got unused to such conditions. I guess I'll have to start leaving earlier again. :P

Completing
Day 20 on no chxxxte
Day 16 on no coffee
Day 1 on no escalators/elevators

Wow, I didn't realize I'm almost done with the chocolate challenge! Yes, I didn't realize it despite posting updates every other day or so... Haven't craved the stuff since the first week or so - it's always this way. I will most likely continue, but I might spice it up a bit. For me, if I go without the stuff for a little bit, I don't miss it at all and actually feel as if I could never eat the stuff again. So 'controlled eating' might be a better challenge for me.

Took a pause on no coffee today. I've been thinking about Red's 'all or nothing' comment and realized that that's what I'm engaging in right now. Let's face it - some days I do need a coffee! I feel that recently I've been sacrificing efficiency (especially when doing course work) for the principle of not having coffee. I do not need to do this, and it's actually not beneficial for me. Better to have a coffee and have a few productive hours doing my readings, rather than spend most of that time trying to keep awake.
Besides, I have more than accomplished my initial goal, which was to go without coffee for a week. I do not have a problemw with drinking coffee itself. I had a problem with drinking it every day just because, of that being part of my routine whether I needed a coffee or not. I've switched back to drinking lots and lots of milk, which is way better for me. :)
So today I headed to the coffee shop when my study session started changing into a snooze. Nice treat it was. :)

And I started a new challenge today, I'm going to stay away from escalators and elevators and such as much as possible. I will have to make some exception, the main campus library being the major one. I will need to pay frequent visits there in the next few weeks, and you can only get there on the elevator. Don't ask me whose idea that was...

I'll stop blabbing now! :) Good luck to everyone! :)

Sumi - are you kidding? All of those activities sound like chores to me. Are you typically eating closer to 1200 or 1400 calories? At 5'9" and a busy person, you may not be getting enough calories. Through trial and error, I've found I can start out really good with 1200, but need to eat closer to 1500 to continue to lose weight.

Ashley LOL not active normally, that was an odd day. Yesterday I didn't get to my chores that I wanted to, so I am already taking a pause. And then I have to say I am taking a pause on the calories too. I decided to up my calories to see if that would really help and ended up binging and bringing in over 2000! But other than that it went ok... I guess I feel like crud today and am seriously mad at myself. I nearly held my resolve. I even decided not to go back for more, and then my evil self took over. UGH. Why does it have to be all or nothing?

I am upping my calories officially on my challenge, I am going to keep the days accomplished (with the one pause taken) but just change the number from here on. Which will be 1500-1600 (since it is for weight loss purposes not giving in). --Sumi

Stayed on program all day and then went to the gym for a kick-butt cardio class. We're doing a step contest at work so we've all been wearing pedometers. The kick-butt 60 minute cardio class only clicked up 3,000 steps on the pedometer. It would go up 3 times that much if I simply walked for 60 minutes. Sigh...

I keep thinking about how I really want to start running again. For the last few weeks I've gone maybe twice a week. And I'm just kind of plodding along. I'll have to think up some sort of challenge there. It's just that I don't want to run everyday, that would be rough on my knee. Maybe I'll make up some sort of exercise schedule and the challenge will be to stick to it. Stay tuned. I also want to start a 10 minute meditation challenge, but I'm reluctant...I think it will be REALLY hard.

Apple and Jolly - does thinking about running count as exercise? I periodically get out the information on the couch to 5k and read it; but then just put it back down again. The thing that holds me back is the thought of everyone driving by and starting at that overweight woman (me) laying in the ditch when she collapsed after attempting to run for 60 entire seconds! :joker:

Hello all. Ashley, that is why I run in the morning. My hope is that by the time they find my body in the ditch, starvation or decay will have decreased my body size  Sumi, I've been there. We've all been there. Keep coming. I know how hard it is to want to write in here the problems, when all you want is success, but the support is key. Keep trying.

Well, posted for the day, and did exercise. I didn't want to. My knee was hurting this morning so I didn't go. I had packed my stuff to go after work, but it was cold and raining, and I just wanted to go home. One of my clients told me to be good, so I did. At least with the exercise. You notice the food goal has yet to be restarted :(

Have a good night all

Day 14 & 15 - 5 servings fruits/vegies per day - good - 1 pause left
Day 16 & 17 - 64 oz water per day - good - 2 pauses left
Day 15 - log all calories - level 1 - pause - will start over

Well, I'm holding onto the water and vegies but didn't log calories at all yesterday. I just was so tired that I didn't care! My little one only fell asleep easily 1 night last week and that was tuesday! He started this whole not going to sleep thing on sunday night and we're still at it. With me getting up at 2:30 and no time for naps normally to make up for things, I've just been having a heck of a time keeping up with anything. Of course, being so tired makes me not care as much about what and how much I'm eating. Glad I'm not doing a calorie count as well!

I will start the logging food again but not for a couple of days. My last day at work will probably be monday or tuesday. At that point I'll be able to sleep again and will feel much better. Until then, I'm just going to try to keep myself together.

Jolly & Ashley - That's so funny about the running! I'll run at the track at our park, but only when no one else is watching (at least I hope no one is)!

Sumi - Hang in there! The scale will start to move again. Your body only needs time to adjust and to realize that food is no longer scarce!

Hi Apple - Glad to see you're doing good with your challenges! I'll be watching for your running challenge! I keep thinking about running too now that I no longer smoke. My lungs might not be ready for long distances, but a little running here and there I think will feel good!

Hey Red! How are you? Let us know!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Heh all. Sorry to have been AWOL. I've been doing pretty poorly. I did finish the sugar and juice challenge but am going to restart the others....

Today I'll see what I'm going to do. It's Sunday here and I'll be back in with a report at some point. I feel awful. Things are worse than ever at work. People quitting...some of my best friends...it's so depressing when all the people leave Japan. I really need to feel good about something right now and I think the only thing within my power are those things I directly control, such as what I put in my friggin' mouth!

Thanks for keeping things going on the thread. I will be back soon!

Jolly – I laughed at the starvation or decay idea. Have you always been a runner or was this a recent thing? I’ve never been a runner, and think I’m really just fooling myself about this couch to 5k idea.

Sumi – I’m sorry to hear the scale has been betraying you. Keep in mind that reduction takes time. We didn’t put on the weight overnight and it certainly doesn’t come back off any quicker. Stay in touch and keep on posting even if you ease off some of the challenges for a bit.

DJ – that is so tough when the little ones keep you up at night. Hang in there – it will get better. Pretty soon they do something crazy like head off for college and then you’ll wish you were getting up at night again.

Red – welcome back. Congrats on finishing the sugar and juice challenges. Is something different happening in Japan today that is causing it to be worse or has it always been this way?

Apple – today should be the last day of calf raises for your challenges. Woo-hoo!!

Have a great Sunday.

Ashley -- Thanks for writing and congrats on all your challenges. How can you have 17 days of no sugar for Lent? Has time flown that quickly!?!?! Wow...
I don't know if anything is any different in Japan. It's more our company and the financial rocks it's on. Being a newspaper, papers worldwide are floundering with the Net and this one is no different. Also, it just has no infrastructure so it was shaky in the best of times. Japan has never been an easy place to live and over the past couple decades, perhaps more so since the economic bubble burst in '89 things have gotten less attractive for non-Japanese. The money is no longer easy and the hardships of living here just weigh more heavily. People have always come and gone and I've dealt with it. It's just that now I question my own situation all the more perhaps....well, thanks for the concern.

Hey all. Ashley, I have never been a runner. I am a penguin - "waddle on." I have run 4 5k races, and been extremely overweight for all of them. So running is doable, as long as you are realistic about your times.

Red, sorry things are going poorly over there. I can't even begin to imagine. Sending you good vibes though.

Did my posting. Did my exercise. Ate very poorly.

Had a decent weekend, although the food part still isn't going too well. Stress and lack of sleep has me eating things I normally would pass by and I DO know better. I am set on getting back on track though. My last day at work is tomorrow, so I will be able to sleep again, which I think will help a lot! I will start logging food again on Wednesday. Yes, I know I could and should start right now, but I am just too tired to care.

Ashley - You're right. One of these days one of my kids will go away to college or whatever and I will miss them something terrible! Besides, I can deal with the lack of sleep now just knowing that tomorrow is my last day at work. Now, if my 3 year old won't go to sleep, it's ok, I can sleep late rather than having to get up at 2:30am. I am so looking forward to that!

Have a great day everyone! My son insists he needs the computer.

Well, I'm throwing in the towel on those no drinking challenges. I used up my pauses and I KNOW I will be out on Friday so I'll just wait to restart.
I did finish the calf raises challenge. :woohoo:
I'm not sure if they helped or not. I discovered that my calves were out of balance when I went skiing and unless I go skiing again, I don't think I'll notice. Maybe a nice long hike would reveal any weakness. I plan on one sooner or later. I'll keep doing them though.
My new challenge will be to follow my exercise schedule. I would like to end up being able to go 4 miles by mid April. And I'm going to enter a 5K then too. I'd like to do a 5K every month.I'm going to have to bring the kids to the one I have chosen for April, so we won't be running the whole thing, probably walking half or so. Who knows, my kids could suprise me.
Well here's the schedule:
Monday: rest or walk
Tue: Weights at the gym
Wed: Running
Thurs: Weights at the gym
Fri: Running
Sat: Running or weights
Sun: Running or weights

I'd better keep a journal for that too, but it won't be part of the challenge
OK, I gotta go.
Hello to everyone!!

I was just reviewing my progress since the first of the year and it is disappointing. Yes, I realize that the scale could be going the other direction, but it's still disappointing after all this effort. Maybe will try zig-zagging the calories for the next challenge. My concern is that I'll eat the extra calories too many days and not be able to get back on track. Has anyone tried the zig-zag and were you able to stop yourself from going wild with eating?

Apple - Congratulations on the calf raises. It's so exciting to finish a challenge! That's a vigorous exercise plan. I really do want to try the running program some day - just not today.

DJ - Enjoy your last day at your work tomorrow - and the rest of your life at your own business. I'm sure you'll be very happy to be your own boss.

Red - glad to hear you're hanging in there. Remember, even if you're simply trudging, at least you're moving along.

Jolly - "waddle on" - that's too funny. Hope the PMS is better today.

I did make it to the gym this morning. Almost didn't, but reminded myself how close to finishing this challenge i am, and that I can take a day off before starting a new one. Day 20, daily posting, day 19 daily exercise.

I wish I could find a school that teaches aerobic kickboxing again. I really need the bag workout for stress release. . .

Well, day 1 done on the exercise. Easy, since it was a rest day. I did take a short walk, since it was such a beautiful day. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with the schedule, I don't like having 2 days off in a row from the running. Monday will be a running day if I didn't run on Sunday. And I'm giving myself 2 pauses, although I'd rather not use them.
Another attempt at no beer/alcohol will come in April....

Go Jolly!! Almost there!!

Well, had my last morning of waking up at 2:30! I can't believe how excited I am. The only tough part was saying goodbye to some people, including my boss, although I plan on keeping in touch with a couple of them. I'm really looking forward to getting back to "normal", whatever that is. I think I just want to be more rested! I'm so tired of being tired.

Ashley - So funny you should talk about zig-zagging. I actually sat down and worked out the numbers for myself on that and am starting tomorrow. The main reason I want to try it is that weekends are so hard around here! I'm hoping that this will give me a little leeway on the weekend and I can cut back on weekdays which I'm much better at. We'll have to see how it goes! I do remember seeing some others posting somewhere here about zig-zagging or calorie cycling. Think I'll go look.

Jolly - Hang in there. You're doing awesome! You're almost done with both your challenges which ought to make you feel really good! Keep up the good work.

Apple - That's great you're getting going on the running. I keep waiting for the weather to be tolerable so I can try that now that I don't smoke. Since I smoked since I was 15, running is something foreign to me and I just have to try it. Good luck with it!

Been in the rough a bit too, things are piling up, so I haven't been paying much attention to the 21-day count.
I did finish the no chxxxte one and I think I did finish the coffee one as well, though did max out my pause days. Abandoned the stair climbing - I'm still doing it as much I can, but it just wasn't workable as a 21-day streak. There are days when I do have to use the elevator at work, and there are days when I don't even come close to an escalator or an elevator, so no challenge there.

Good luck to everyone :)

Wow. Sounds like we all need a patch of smoother sailing. I have a meeting tonight, so not sure I will have time to post later. I woke up feeling stiff and sore again. So, instead of doing the bike like i have done the last couple mornings, I did my yoga tape to get more of a stretch. Downward facing dog with upward jumping pup is not exactly the easiest. Didn't get a whole lot of mind out of the workout, but did get the stretches. So, the daily exercise challenge is finished.

Not sure what I am going to do tomorrow, but will start new challenges for Friday. With better eating challenge.

Veg juice -- Day 4 completed/3 pauses left

Hi all....feeling a little better here, but I did end up taking a pause on sugar, which is really early in the game...but I think I can make it through with the remaining two pauses. I even made the juice early in the morning before going to the gym. The juice was kind of gross tasting (asparagus and cabbage on top of the carrots) but I downed it.

Today was what is called White Day in Japan. It's because of the way Valentine's Day is celebrated...women give chocolate to men. So, they make White Day the following month, on which day men are supposed to give cho:censored:ate to women. Few do but I was reaping the benefits (?!?!?) of being a manager, because I got three!! boxes.... :^: small boxes albeit, but still. That is the first time!

Ok, just a quick one today as I'm off to the dentist. Finished the water challenge, but took a pause on the vegies due to a hectic day yesterday. I'm also starting a new challenge with counting calories again. This time I'm going to try the calorie cycling and see how it goes. Since I'll be cycling, I can't specify an exact calorie count daily other than to say my calories need to fit into my cycling schedule and equal an average of 1700 per day to start, so....

Hi Jollygirl, have fun at the dog show. Did you just finish a challenge where exercised every day. That is so good. I wish I could commit for just 5 days a week.

Calorie Count - Starting over

Yep, starting over already! I'm changing the calorie count just a little. I'm shooting for an average of 1800 instead of 1700. With the weather so much nicer finally, I've been getting in double my normal activity time. I've been walking for 2 - 4 miles each day at a good pace, then taking my 3 year old to the park or the school down the street and running around with him on top of my normal 40-60 minute afternoon workout. I feel like on my low calorie days (I'm cycling calories), I'm just not getting enough to be satisfied. I'll watch the scale and see how this works.

:welcome: Carol! Good luck with your challenge. I found that fitday works really well for me. Really opened my eyes as to what I was putting in my mouth!

Jolly - What really matters is that you're back! Have fun with the dog show.

Red - Yes, I'm getting more sleep now and already feel so much better! I don't think I realized just how tired I was until I suddenly felt more rested and found my energy again. Feels great!

Sorry to hear things are still rough. Just do the best you can and realize you're still making progress even though the road is a little bumpy! Good luck with the pilates! That's something I have never tried before. You'll have to let me know what you think of it.

Hi everyone,
Sorry I’ve been MIA for the last few days and have not been on-line participating with the forum. I had a houseful of unexpected company. Had a lovely time, and they’ve all gone home now, so I’m back to reality.

I finished the food log and exercise challenges. Fell one measly day short with calories and vege/fruit services. And I have to ‘fess up and admit that I ate candy one day. So, now to start some up again with the challenges. These are all level 3, except the candy.

Calories - zig-zag, average 1700 calories
Vege/fruit - at least 5 servings per day
Food log every day
Exercise - 30 minutes per day
No candy during lent, day 24, no pauses allowed, 1 pause taken

Jolly, Sushi and DJ - Congratulations on hitting day 21. Looks like you all wiped up on your challenges while I was gone. :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: :cheer:

Carol - Welcome to the challenge. The easiest way to use the emoticans is to click "go advanced" at the bottom of the page before you start typing. Then click on the smilies or "more" on the right side of the screen at the point where you want it to show.:D

Red - your juice combinations sound interesting. I cannot imagine how asparagus, cabbage and carrots in the same drink would taste.

Hope everyone has a great week. I promise to post more regularly this week.

dj -- Good luck on your calorie challenge. :goodluck: Thanks for the encouraging words and I'm glad to hear you're getting more shut-eye. The pilates is not something I like. It's tough and it's not easy to cheat. I've decided to just build up gradually and not let the difficulty of the exercises discourage me. It just shows how good they are! Also, I've decided I'm not going to try to follow some ugly videotape or book. So many of the pilates ones are just not attractive. I found another book with a DVD and just liked the colors and model so much more...she looked happier, not like a drill sergeant! :drill: Things like this are important... ;) it's hard enough doing the darn things!

Ashley -- Major kudos and three cheers to you for finishing your two challenges! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: That's a lot of new ones you've got ahead. Best of luck! :cheer: With the juice...I sit here drinking the most delicious one...all carrots with a touch of fresh lemon....I try not to think about the taste too much. It's more the vitamins...I have put my foot down about radish and such though..that really made me want to you know what.... :barf: It's hard to describe the taste of things...remember, it's all raw so the tastes are not so strong with veggies like asparagus and cabbage. Asparagus makes the most beautiful green!

jolly -- Glad you and the pooch enjoyed the show. You can do it on the challenges. You already are! Look forward to cheering you on! :flow1:

Day 1 done on all counts.

Red - I laughed when I read that you picked the DVD based on the colors and the "happy" model. That was just too funny, but so true. The asparagus green also made me laugh. Do you have to shut your eyes to drink the stuff?

DJ - I'm starting with the zig-zag, but already feel a cheat coming on, so may have to re-think this. I'm going to do my best for a week and see how it goes.

Everyone else - hope you had a strong Monday staying on target with your challenges.

wahh :O I havent been here in a while!
I completely fell off the wagon... I can't explain why.. just stopped doing everything! o.o Im going to start back at the beginning and just try to count all my calories for 21 days so here we go

count all calories - Day 1 - 3 pauses left

The "lift-off" was a dud and yesterday was a disaster, so I'm having a do-over and started with day 1 again today.

Calories - zig-zag, average 1700 calories, day 1
Vege/fruit - at least 5 servings per day, day 1
Food log every day, day 1
Exercise - 30 minutes per day, day 1
No candy during lent, day 24, no pauses allowed, 1 pause taken

mnms - welcome to the challenge. You'll find a lot of great encouragement here. I find it very motivating to stay on the program if I have to come here to confess when the day doesn't go well. You've got some great challenges.

DJ - I'm going to be following your progress on the zig-zag, so you can be my role model.

Rab - good to have you back. We all go through periods like that. Just dust yourself off and get back to work.

Red - I'm enjoying the rhymes. "Four's no bore"

Day 8 on my exercise challenge! I took 1 pause last Sat. My DH was in such a bad mood that I was reluctant to take the time away....but Sunday I did both a run AND the weights so I sort of made up for it. And I had to flip flop Monday and Tuesday because I was out of town. But I'm not counting that as a pause because it was out of my control. I am finding it hard to increase my distance. some days my legs feel too heavy. And some days I need to walk a bit. I'll get there eventually.
Anyway, I stayed at a hotel with a pool, and of course the kids had to swim. Me in a swimming suit is rather scary! I really need to combine the exercise with some kind of diet. I'm going to try to just eat less the next week or so, even though DH has a brithday coming up. I'll try, I'll try.
Hello to every one! Looks like there are lots of fresh starts going on!

Day 2 & 3 - calorie count - good - no pauses

Well, so far so good. Those low calorie days on the zig zag are kinda hard, but knowing I get more calories the next day makes it a little easier to deal with so hopefully this will workout for me.

Well, I am trying something new for exercise. I decided that when I quit smoking that I would get a membership at the local ymca and finally got signed up today. I'm planning on going there to workout at lease twice a week just to mix things up a little. I'm pretty excited about it, although the idea of group classes are a little intimidating. I've never done that before! I'm used to working out in the privacy of my own living room with no one around! It'll be interesting.

Ashley - I think we'll be each others role model! I've never done the zigzag before. It just seems like a more natural way to eat anyway. Some days you eat more and some days you eat less which is like real life! Hopefully this will work out for us!

Apple - Sounds like you are doing good with the exercise! Isn't it funny how some days you feel like someone poured lead down your legs and the next day you feel like you could fly?!?! I just let myself have the easier days when I feel that way and take advantage of the days that I feel better. Keep it up!

Rab - All that matters is that you're back now! Glad you're here!

Hi Red, Jolly, Mnms and everyone else out there! Hope you are doing well!

Calories - zig-zag, average 1700 calories, day 2
Vege/fruit - at least 5 servings per day, day 2
Food log every day, day 2
Exercise - 30 minutes per day, day 2
No candy during lent, day 28, no pauses allowed, 1 pause taken

I just realized that I have not been updating the number of days in the candy challenge, so fixed that.

Apple - nice to hear from you. I agree with your logic - a run and lifting should count as exercise x 2.

DJ - I suspect the zig-zag will only work if I actually zag. So far, I'm eating on the high end every day. I love the YMCA - they are such a great family place to work out.

Red, Rab, Mnms, everyone else - have a great Friday and then a wonderful weekend.

I'm going to be better about login in daily. Although I have been keeping up w/ my challenges.

-68 ounces of water: Day 3 completed/ no pauses
-No meals 2 hours before bedtime: Day 3 completed/1 pause left
- food log: Day 0 completed/ no pauses
- exercise at least 3 X a wk (for 30 min): Day 3 completed/ 2 pauses left. This is definitely a big step for me.:carrot:

Day 4 - calorie count - good - no pauses

Ashley - I know what you mean about getting that zag in! My low days are not as low as I'd like them which means of course my high days can't be as high as I'd like them, however, I think it's getting a little easier. I'm just having to figure out ways of feeling satisfied on less food a couple of days each week. I'm going to continue this until the 3 weeks is up, then I'll see what I think.

Mnms - Good job keeping up with those challenges! :carrot: Especially that exercise one. That can be a tough one at first, but hopefully one day you'll find that you enjoy it. That took me a good 4-6 months, but now I'm hooked! My family thinks I'm crazy!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Mnms - good work on your challenges! I agree with DJ - the exercise challenge is tough. You have to make it part of your life. You wouldn't go to bed without brushing your teeth, so you won't end the day without some exercise.

Hey all. Sorry my one day pause in between challenges turned into a 10 day pause. :( I am here though.

Good news - I reconnected with an old friend I had misplaced along the way. We had a falling out years ago, and I guess the time was just right for me to call her. It feels right and good.

I am going to start 4 new challenges on Sunday (I have a buy stuff party tomorrow, so I will be eating some food porn)

1) Post daily - I know I do better when I get hear daily to check in.
2) Daily exercise with some sort of weights/core/stretching. I did an orientation session to the gym weights yesterday, so have no excuse not to.
3) No unauthorized sweets.
4) Breakfast foods for breakfast. I have been starting the day out with bad choices lately.

All will be level 3's. Again, start date of 3/25/07.

On another good note, I splurged on some swim gear. I will be jogging on M-W-F, doing ellipitical plus weights on T-Th-Sa, and am going to go to the local hotel to swim laps on Sundays.

everyone, take it easy, hope all is going well, and will post again tomorrow

Hey all. I decided I don't want to wait another day to get back in the game . . . or challenge as it were. I also want to successfully complete my food challenges. So, I am changing goals as follows:

1) Daily posting.
2) Daily exercise with some form of weights/core/stretching.
3) 2 servings each of fruits and vegetables per day.
4) Breakfast foods for breakfast.

All are level 3's, and all begin TODAY.

Here's to a wonderful day all.

P.S. Carol, to change your weight tracker, go to "User Control Panel" then click on "edit signature." You will see something that looks like [url . . . You need to look through there for your current weight number, change it, then click on "save changes." Hope that helps.

I did not make it to the gym, but did enough housework to count as exercise five times over. I even washed windows today! :whoo: They were really getting bad. Only got half of them done though, so will have to work on them again tomorrow.

Jolly – how wonderful that you were able to reconnect with an old friend. Good luck on your new challenges.

Carols – Congratulations on seven days. You’re well on your way to making this a habit! And congrats on the need to move your slider. Hopefully you can make it happen using Jolly's instructions.

Fit Chick – Welcome to the 21-day challenge. Yes, it is important that the challenges be reasonable. Losing 50 pounds by the end of the month never works out. This is a great thread for keeping you accountable.:welcome:

Hello all. Well, feeling a tad sheepish today :^: I have to take a pause day on the eating breakfast foods for breakfast challenge. While I could try to argue out of it, calling it brunch, saying it is a weekend, the fact is I made leftover pasta for breakfast. My bad.

I did go swim this morning. Wasn't able to do much, but since I haven't swam in a couple of years, I'll take it. Besides, that kind of counts as a rest day as well.

Well, off to work for a bit. Have a great day all, and will check in later.

Hello all.

First off, Red, I thought I saw something on the news about quakes in Japan. Was I right, and are you ok??

Ashley, I had to laugh at your post. I agree, in and of itself, non breakfast foods for breakfast isn't a big thing. However, for me it tends to be a binge, not a breakfast. And it wasn't healthy food with the pasta. It was a sumo sized portion of non healthy pasta. I felt yucky all day.

Luckily though, later when I started to head to the store for :censored:, I remembered the big breakfast, and the fact I still felt stuffed, and turned around and didn't get anything.

I did do my abs after I ran this morning, and had cereal for breakfast. and I am posting, so that is 3 of my challenges for the day :D

Have a great day all. i have to work a 3rd shift tonight, so may not make it back to post.

Day 7 - calorie count - pause - starting over

Yep, went over. Not by much for just the one day, but it threw my daily average off for the week by enough that I'm saying I'm done. I'm not sure I will do well with the zig zag.

For the moment, I'm re-thinking things (again). I am going to tackle a couple of other things that I'm noticing I need to fix. I have a favorite snack that I tend to eat too much of which I am not going to get rid of, just cut down to 1 serving a day. I'm also adding back in my exercise challenge but am upping it just a bit from normal. So....

Only 1 serving of my "favorite" snack per day - level 3
45 minutes of purposeful exercise - level 3

Was going to write more to everyone here, but I spent so long thinking about all this, that my 3 year old is now up and running so I gotta go! I'll catch up with each of you later.

Bad news though, I had to take a pause day again on Sat. I think it may be tough to finish this one up....9 days with out a pause...

Sweet pea – welcome back. You’ve got some awesome challenges. Congrats on the weight loss. Nice to see the numbers going down, isn’t it?

Fit Chick – I hate that!! Although it’s good motivation to stay on your challenge.

Jolly – I pictured a sumo-sized serving of pasta and laughed. Good job turning around on your way to the store and for all your great challenges.

Red – it’s good to hear that you’re safe and sound.

DJ – I hear you about the zig-zag. Thankfully I only had 1300 calories yesterday, because I had a whopping 2200 calories today. Hope this is where the zig-zag works. I may need to re-think this also.

I've done my walk for today and there's no alcohol in the house so that will be day 1 checked off for those.

I'm going to set my calories at 1,800 per day. It sounds high but I eat a lot of tahini, avocado, sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts etc that are really high in calories even though they are healthy. unfair!!! ;)

holy cow ashley - 32 days without candy - i'm very impressed. i plan to give up sugar starting 1st april but first i have to empty my cupboards and buy all my replacement snacks. can i ask what zig zag is for calories???

Day 1 - Only 1 serving of my "favorite" snack per day - good - level 3
Day 1 - intentional exercise every day - good - level 3

1 day down, 20 to go! I took off the 45 minutes from my exercise challenge because I know on Sunday, it probably won't happen and I'm ok with that. It will just be my own personal challenge to get a minimum of 45 minutes exercise per day Mon-Sat.

Sweet Pea - Nice to see that weight start to come off again huh? Congrats! The zigzag is a form of calorie counting where you will have high calorie days and low calorie days to equal an average by the end of a week. This way your body cannot get used to the low calories from dieting and you hopefully won't go into starvation mode.

Ashley - Yea, that zig zag is kind of hard. I might go back, I thing I need to make a few changes and find some new foods.

Jolly - Glad you're doing well with your challenges! Keep it up.

Apple - That's awesome on the running! I can't imagine running that far myself. I'm doing good just to do intervals on a 3 mile walk! Good job!
That's tough with the food thing though. I've been kinda going through that myself. Is there something specific that's triggering it?

Hello all. I have to share my morning story. I don't know whether it is a :cb: or

I got up this morning, and I was feeling tired and my quads were still sore from Monday's jog. My inner 3 year old was having a temper tantrum " I don't wanna work out. I don't wanna, don't wanna, don't wanna!!!" I decided this was just unexceptable, so off I went for my 2 mile jog. I was about a third of the way in, and feeling pretty good. The negative emotions were floating away on a sea of sweat (great visual, eh?). When all of a sudden, I take a stride and <POP>, my knee zigs when it should have zags. I tried combining jogging and walking, but quickly decided to just walk fast the rest of my route. Sigh.

Anyway. Everyone else have a great day!

Day 2 - Only 1 serving of my "favorite" snack per day - pause - 2 pauses left
Day 2 - intentional exercise every day - good - level 3

Yep, paused already! Didn't mean to, just grabbed one on my way out the door yesterday before going to the ymca. I got halfway through my snack before it hit me that I had one earlier. I promise I'll be more aware today! By the way, since Apple is curious, I'll tell what this evil snack is.... it's those darn granola bars. Mostly I eat a high protein one an hour or so before I workout if I have not had a recent meal, but they also call my name when I want something sweet. Since there are no other sweets in my house, that's what I grab.

Guess I get to join Red and Jolly on the injury list too. I managed to do something to my shoulder yesterday. Today, I can hardly move it! I'm so mad and of course it had to be my right shoulder. I'm having to do most everything with my left hand now and that hand just doesn't work well! Good news is that I can at least keep up with the aerobics part of my workout.

Red - Sorry to hear about your knee! Those darn knees sometimes seem so easy to hurt and they really knock you down for a while. Take it easy and let it heal!

Jolly - Same goes for you! Yes, you got out of working out, but knee injuries are really lousy! Hope you're doing ok! Take it easy!

SweetPea - Yea, that zig zagging does sound good, especially to be able to eat a little more on weekends or special occasions. I keep thinking I want to go back to it, but I need to get myself to handle those low calorie days! I'm trying to come up with some new foods that will keep me satisfied on those days.

Apple - We have the same eating problems and we're close on the darn snack thing too! You with granola, me with granola bars. Yep, calorie cycling is the same as the zig zag. By the way, how old is your youngest?

Gotta run, my youngest has his 3 year old checkup this morning and my oldest thinks he needs a ride to school. At least my middle child hasn't asked for anything!

sweet pea....sorry to hear about the weather. I hope everything is okay with you and your loved ones.

redballoon...thanks for the welcome. :)

I did good yesterday! I went a WHOLE day without pop. It was really hard, and I almost caved when I went to the gas station, but I didn't get any. I got a Naked juice instead when I got to school. And I had Slim Fast for lunch! :carrot: Hope everyone's doing good.

No Pop (Level 3)...Day 1 completed...3 pauses left
No Gardetto's (Level 2)...Day 1 completed...2 pauses left
Slim Fast (Level 1)...Day 1 completed...1 pause left

Not much time to post, I'm off on an airport run. Still stuffing too much food in my face! I have to figure something out...

Hello all and welcome newbies

Well, here is a run down of my challenges:
1) daily posting - day 7, 3 pauses left
2) Daily exercise with some sort of weights/core/stretching - day 6, 2 pauses left
3) 2 servings each of fruits and veggies - day 6 (paused today), 2 pauses left
4) Breakfast foods for breakfast - day 5, 1 pause left.

I am trying to establish good habits again, before working on changing the bad ones. Last time, that is what worked. I started feeling better about my choices, so I wanted to make even better ones. That process could be going a bit faster. I am barely making it. But at least I am doing something.

Have a good one all. Sweet Pea, hope you and yours are safe. Apple, good luck with the weekend. I am working some 3rd shifts, so will be battling the "keep me awake" eating.

Hi everybody,

Jollygirl, For me, I notice that by developing good eating habits, the bad once seem to just disapear. I guess the bad once just get replaced by good habits. It is even getting easier.:carrot:

Helpmelos, I notice that you have pauses for your cake and candy. I like that idea because i have a major sweet tooth for cake. I think that I am going to do that challenge. And I am going to give myself 3 breaks for a piece of cake if I want it.

I was reading an article today about depriving yourself of a nice sweet treat every so often. The article stated that a treat is fine. It will keep a person from binging on sweets.

Labonita, I know what you mean about that "almost caving" at the gas station. When I go to the grocery store, I have these huge battles with trying not to buy cake. I love cake. I went to the grocery store today and it was very hard to even be near those sweets. But I made it out of the store with only nice healthy foods.:) Labonit, congratulations on making it thru day one without the pop.:cp:

My Challenges:

Write in Journal- level one - day 14 complete:^:
8 glasses of water - level one - day 14 complete:^:

New challenge - No sweets- level 3 starting tomorrow

I love this 21 day challenge. It is so motivating.

Day 3 & 4 - Only 1 serving of my "favorite" snack per day - good - 2 pauses left
Day 4 & 5 - intentional exercise every day - good - level 3

Welcome back LaBonita! Glad to have you here again.

:welcome: helpmelose! Good luck with your challenges.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Thanks for the welcome djstorey! I appreciate it.

carols2 - Yeah for me on the cake and candy thing. I should have put no sweets, but I don't want to deprive myself on sweets, so I decided on cake and candy. During this time of year, Easter, my mom has little baskets filled w/ caramel filled chocolate so that is why I have decided to challenge myself with cake and candy. But I am still allowing myself some sweets, like sugar free pudding and those 100 calorie packets of cookies and granola bars.

Day 2 - No Cake or Candy- level 3 - 3 pauses left
Day 2 - Drink 2 liters of water a day - level 1 - 1 pause left
Day 2 - Exercise 30 minutes a day - level 3 - 3 pauses left

Hey all. REal quick post before heading off to work. Third shift - yuck.

Met all challenges today. Actually got everything done except riding my horse, and was hoping for a tad more sleep. Ah well.

Have a good one all.
